In the midst of cleaning out getting ready to move (again), I decided to do another neon. Since the lighting on the reference photo was completely different I struggled a bit but the challenge was interesting. Hope I have done Hozier justice, thank you for your support!

This was a gift for my daughter. I think he’s from the new Hunger Games movie…I read that book a while ago but haven’t yet seen the movie. I used different lighting than was in the reference photo, painted in Procreate. Anyway she loves it and I hope you do too!

Finished up season 3 of Ted Lasso a little bit ago and realized I hadn’t yet drawn this guy! I really loved the development of this character and Phil Dunster played him so well, turning Jamie into a very lovable character indeed. Hozier, 11x17, all colored pencil, time spent: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ a few months?
Story time! A bit lengthy but bear with me. Picture it…Sacramento, 2015… Hozier was just starting to take off…I was excited to snag tickets to see him at a smaller capacity. I drew 2 portraits…one for him to sign for me, one as a gift, both in graphite. I met some lovely people in line and after the show (which was awesome btw) they waited with me at the end of the line hoping he’d come out. When it was my turn I was incredibly nervous…his mom is an actual artist and designed his album cover. I…didn’t really know what I was doing. So I babbled and stumbled over my words saying as much, that I hoped they were ok, that I was no artist, never having taken an art class,etc. He waited patiently for me to finish and then I handed both drawings to him. He looked, eyes widened, and really LOOKED at them. Seemed like forever and I remember it was long enough for me to look over at my linemates. Then he said words that have stayed with me ever since.
“Don’t you ever say you are not an artist because you absolutely are. These are beautiful.”
His tone was serious which further drove the point home. It’s been a few years but I still hear these words. And while it’s taken a while and still feels a little weird, when I show someone my page and they say “Oh you’re an artist!?” I say “Yes, I am.”

I first found this band scrolling through IG reels…they were funny videos so I decided to follow. When I saw they had a new song out (Horror Show) I thought I’d take a listen…LOVED it so I decided to listen to more. Aaaand then I was hooked. Big time. They have part 1 of a new album out which of course I’m loving so also of course had to draw them. The lighting on this is not the original, I decided to do something a wee different. I chose this photo because it just shows the love and support they have for each other. ❤️ They’re also super great to their fans and I’m hoping to be able to see a live show soon!
