What's your favorite piece of vintage media that's NOT a movie?
There's these old Sherlock Holmes radio plays I used to binge—I think maybe they were these ones, though I wouldn't have guessed Basil Rathbone's involvement because the show’s defining features were (1) not being very good and (2) segueing into an ad for Clippercraft Shirts every five minutes. The only story I really remember has Moriarty hiding a bomb inside a chicken at the diamond jubilee, which is cleverly foiled by Sherlock Holmes taking the chicken bomb and jumping into a lake with it. People in the 40s really knew how to write a gripping yarn.

I get terrible anxiety when I write and constantly question if others will like what I'm writing. Do you have any advice on how I can manage it better?
Oh some of them will and some of them won’t. Don’t give it too much mind. Write the next thing. Some of the people who liked the last thing won’t like that, and some of the ones who didn’t like the last thing will love it.  You aren’t writing it for them; or rather, you may be writing it to be read by them, but you aren’t writing it to be loved. Just enjoy the process.

Writing any kind of story is a scary proposition, especially if it deals with personal stuff. And writing about trans people during a bogus moral panic is especially daunting -- it's easy to either pull your punches, or feel as though the burden of good trans representation weighs on your shoulders. The good news is that we are living during a time of extreme riches when it comes to trans stories, and a ton of wonderful authors are writing trans tales that defy categorization and bust through boundaries. So please write the story that speaks to you, the story that only you can tell about your own obsessions and dreams. It can be scary or funny or comforting or escapist, or all of the above — don't worry that what you write will be singled out as the One True Trans Story, or seen as a representation of all trans people. Just write your story.

The fact that Tolkien realized he’d created inconsistency for LotR with the first published version of The Hobbit and then retconned it with the in universe explanation of “Bilbo is a liar,” is never going to stop being both equal parts brilliant and funny.

If a worker who isn't the owner says ANYTHING similar to "I'm not really supposed to do this but-" and then does something that helps you, under no circumstances inform the business, including through reviews. You tell them that the worker was polite, professional, the very model of customer service and why you like to go there. You do not breathe a word of the rulebreaking.

Wait, I'm curious
You guys write with a trope in mind/add tropes to your story?
I normally just write whatever I want and if there's a trope, is mostly unconscious
