This idea was something that was marinating in my notes for a few years now, and @appalesbian had a similar concept she had been eager to write about. So, we combined our powers!

It's so disheartening to see people who seem to think Aloy fell for Seyka simply because she's the first person that came along after her character development in Forbidden West. Don't get me wrong, Aloy's growth in HFW is absolutely essential to her character development in Burning Shores, but Seyka isn't supposed to be some rando to show that, actually, Aloy has suddenly discovered romantic attraction and is ready for romance with other people.

The main narrative purpose of Burning Shores is to show Aloy developing feelings FOR SEYKA. There's no need to develop a relationship between these two characters if GG only wanted to show that Aloy was into women or ready for romance in general. And it certainly wouldn't make sense to make it the emotional core of the entire storyline.

Aloy hasn't shown a smidge of romantic attraction towards anyone before, so why do some fans think that Aloy experiencing romantic attraction TOWARDS ONE SPECIFIC CHARACTER is somehow setup for BioWare-style romance options in the next game?

(That's a rhetorical question; I already know the answer)

If GG wanted Aloy to have romantic feelings for any of the other companions they could have just... told that story?? They could have shown the very beginnings of attraction, sown the tiniest of seeds for potential romance towards the end of HFW. Hell, they could have had another character join Aloy for Burning Shores instead of Seyka... But they didn't.

I'm fully convinced that Seyka will play a pivotal role in Horizon 3, just as I'm sure she will be THE love interest. Regardless of which option you pick, the relationship is kind of on pause at the end of Burning Shores. That's because the actual romance is going to happen in Horizon 3. That's also why I really don't understand the arguments that Aloy and Seyka's relationship was rushed, because it's clearly just beginning?? Even if Aloy reciprocates immediately, it's more like a kiss at the end of a first date?

I could be wrong about romance options, but I highly doubt it and I really hope not. Having Aloy experience attraction and slowly develop her relationship with Seyka in the next game is a logical next step in her character development. And it would be fun to see! Too often romance in games culminates with the characters just getting together and we rarely see the actual relationship develop. By focusing on one specific love interest, it allows for so much more interesting writing than the typical RPG romance, which tends to consist of two dialogue options and a sex scene.

But suddenly developing romantic interest in people she's never shown the slightest attraction towards and having several options to pick from? That would be out of character, and I don't think it would benefit the story in any way.

Re-watching some Seyloy scenes, and I think I'm coming to realize a little more, just what Aloy likes about Seyka. Like we have the obvious, the fact that she's capable, smart, and willing to go against authority for her beliefs. She cares about people and is willing to fight for them. Something that's different with her, though, is how equal they are. Obviously, they both grow in their respect and like for each other, but Seyka keeps insisting that they alternate between responsibility. Like how they travel, who gets to shoot the weapons, etc. Everyone Aloy meets becomes a little in awe of her, even the base gang. Seyka instead just pushes back against the secrets, and against the responsibility that Aloy keeps trying to keep to herself. The rest of the gang eventually learned to become comfortable with her and push back, but all of them start with that little bit of power imbalance.

Aloy has learned how to respect other people's care for their tribes, and how to be sensitive to what they value, and giving her a girl that kept up with her every single step of the way in saving her people? Yeah, the girl is going to really like her. Not once did Seyka put the responsibility of saving her sister on Aloy's shoulders. They helped each other, but it was mutual.
