I played Hades II a fair bit yesterday during my breaks and free time for Supergiant Games' technical test of the game. Part of me wants to keep playing today, but I got stuff to do and I do want to keep up the excitement for the early access. I wrote a rough, kind of unedited essay about it before I went to sleep last night though below, mostly for me to have record of my memories in written form. Some spoiler-y screenshots and random thoughts/analyses below if you want to read more. I mean it--there are spoilers and the most random long tangents because I like to analyze. (I do recommend playing first if you have a chance to)

First thing I'll say is that the game is pretty phenomenal and so damn fun. The experience reminds me of when I played Hades for the first time in their initial Early Access of the game years ago. Longtime Supergiant Games fan here (since Transistor release)! I remember running into a bug then and reporting it when I froze in-game, but I have not run into any noticeable bugs at all yet for Hades II. I've done some reports for minor bugs, but extremely minor ones that I actually feel bad for even reporting and adding to their list of messages to go through. Supergiant has their QA down, truly. I have so much respect for them and how they've developed the game. Darren Korb did an amazing job on the music again. It has that iconic Hades sound with the strings (that is not a guitar, I forget what it's called) while also being its own distinct soundtrack.

The 4th wall banter moments between Melinoë and Homer (who is revealed as narrator!) have been one of my favorite things about the story/narration execution. Her being cognizant of Homer does make it so there are rather funny moments, but also brings up the question of how that might shape the narrative later on. I'm so curious!

When I first started the game, I had a funny moment where I died almost instantly in the second room because I was testing out Melinoe's skillset and ran out of MP (?) and then got slapped because I wasn't actually doing damage when trying to use her bigger skills, heh. It did take me some time to get used to it, but Mel's skills and cast abilities are so much fun to use when utilized well. Her cast and its ability to hold your enemies for a time is one of the best upgrades to combat, in my opinion. For all I love the first Hades, I remember having to dash like crazy to escape exploding carts coming after me if I didn't have a good boon to mitigate or avoid that. With the cast for Melinoë, it'll change that to placing strategically some casts that can hold quick enemies or enemies that are very dangerous if they get close to you (wailers in this game are one such enemy). In terms of boons, Demeter's, Hestia's, and Apollo's have been some of my favorites. Aphrodite also has a phenomenal one for casts that will gather your enemies into your cast, making it an ideal combination with some devastating other boons that can easily damage groups of enemies all at once. Hephaestus also has a pretty fun one where I think he can explode in a certain proximity with your special or attack, I forget. I do wonder if they'll have to rebalance some of these boons because there are certain ones I can annihilate enemies with--but then again, maybe that is needed for later sections of the game.

The numerous references to the moon in the game are a nice nod to Melinoë's lore in Greek mythology and poetry too. Though she's more associated with being a goddess of ghosts (I find it a nice touch you can salute shades you meet in the Crossroads because of this) and nightmares (I don't think it's a coincidence Hypnos is the only other survivor of Hades' inner sanctum), Melinoë has at some point been referenced as a moon goddess as well of the underworld. Selene is the moon goddess and Artemis has also become known as a goddess of the moon in mythology in addition to being the goddess of the hunt. So that connection between the three and the friendship they share in the game is pretty cool in that regard (Selene calls you the "Silver Sisters.")

Having Artemis become your friend in Hades II, something akin to a friendly rivalry like Thanatos was to Zagreus, is such a fun story--and then you have Selene added into that mix as well. From the few runs I've done, I've gathered that Artemis and Hermes are the first of the Olympus gods who knew of Melinoë's existence in her youth as Hecate's pupil. She helped Hecate hide the truth of Melinoës survival (at least from the Olympus gods)--and when Melinoë was ready, it was only then that Artemis leaked through Apollo that Hades' daughter was coming to fight Chronos and had survived the fall of Hades. So the boons you get are because the twins, Artemis and Apollo, played a role in connecting you to Olympus for the fight against Chronos. There seems to be more in this background that I'm curious to learn about. Just from their banter, it's clear Artemis has spent much time with Melinoë and Selene in some form. I don't know if they have duo boons in this game (or boon-hex? Selene gives you a hex), but I'm curious to see what these two's duo boon(s) would be if they have them.

The game also does that thing the first game did so well of shifting the world as you progress and have changes in the relationships about you. Nemesis is one of the new characters in Hades II who doesn't seem to like you very much initially, but with your dialogue with Odysseus nearby, you get the sense that it wasn't always this way. When you gift her a nectar, Melinoë subtly starts calling her "Nem," and you can tell the two of them are very slowly mending whatever it is they have (Odysseus chuckles nearby probably seeing the progress). You also meet Doom Incarnate (Moros) and have to unlock having him at the Crossroads by invoking him, which is also pretty fun in terms of letting you slowly do more runs and experience the world more in order to gather enough "resources" to call him. It allows a natural progression of characterization and getting to know the people around Melinoë, in my opinion.

Dora's also one of my favorite character already. There's something so funny about Melinoë encouraging Dora as she tries to scare and haunt her as a proper ghost, but then also rather touching that she just accepts that Dora just likes to hang out in her room and not go out much. I love Arachne too, and how she's just chillin' like, I'm bored and alone and just spinning webs, so here Melinoë, have some clothes I made.

This game makes me love it as much as I loved the first one. In some ways, in terms of how they executed establishing background and connections between Melinoë and her companions (Odysseus' calls her a "little goddess" as a child! Hecate plays hide-and-go-seek with her!), I think they've started out much stronger than they did in the first game. And this one already starts with a sort of high-stakes situation from the get-go. Melinoë's entire family has been taken by Chronos and she grew up apart from them. The game does well of letting you step into the world even if you haven't played the first one--and playing on your affection for Hades, Persephone, and Zagreus if you did. After all, considering how hard you worked as Zagreus to bring back together that family in the first game, the second game logically comes back with a vengeance with Melinoë at the loss of such a family and a need for vengeance against Chronos for ruining it. The world feels familiar, yet the cast of characters are so different.

And the designs of all the new gods! And the new designs for the old gods! They're all extremely well-done. I've been a longtime fan of the artists for the characters and the environments. They've done stellar jobs on it again for this one, and there's more touches to icons and designs of the UI I like too. The dialogue log is one of my favorite things too, as someone who might miss a piece of dialogue here and there when I take off my headphones. The voice acting in this game is also a whole notch up from the previous game. Not to knock anyone from the first Hades, since I think they did a great job, but I do feel like the voices have been more professionally recorded this time around. Or something about it is a little more polished. Kudos to Supergiant for another game that's an A+ in my book thus far. Ahh!

I could keep going, but honestly, I think it's best to have people experience the game in Early Access. I mostly just wanted a record for myself to look back on for being a small part of Hades II's journey and share some of my excitement and the random analyses I had. It'll be fun for me to look back on how I read some things and how I felt when the finished version of the game comes out eventually.

Chapter 2

Matty Healy!dad x f!reader

A/N: okay, second chapter/part…I had fun writing this part. Hope you enjoy it!!

Word count: 2k

Warnings: swearing, friends bickering, broken hearts (?), typos

Chapter 1

“Okay, we’re off.” Matty announced, extending his arms towards Grace. She faked refusing his request, which made Amelia chuckle and hide her little face on her mother’s best friend's neck. Y/n laughed witnessing. “Give my baby back!” Matty insisted, poking Grace on the arm.

In a swift movement, Matty took Mel and stepped back a few meters. “Yes!” He celebrated.

“Have fun” Y/n said to them. “Tell the guys that I’ll drop by anytime soon” She stated to Matty.

“You two can come with us...” He offered to the grown up women. Y/n shook her head.

“She needs her time with daddy.”

Matty smiled wide, dropping kisses on his daughter's chubby cheeks. “My sweet baby!”

“We need to gossip about you as well.” Grace muttered behind her mug. Matty looked instantly to Y/n arching an eyebrow. He was expecting an answer, meanwhile Y/n wanted to kill her best friend.

Y/n purposely ignored the conversation. Saying goodbye to her daughter. “Give mommy a kiss, and go.” Y/n sensed Matty staring. Matty stood there, in the middle of the kitchen, analysing how Y/n ignored eye contact. 'Was it a joke or a fact? Or both?'

If he didn’t say more, she wasn't going to either.

“Okay…” He spoke with his voice full of questions. “See you two later. Don’t burn the house down, please!” He turned around, with Amelia secured in his arms.

Once the sound of the door closing reached Y/n's ears, she looked dead panned at Grace. “I’m going to kill you, idiot. Why did you tell him that?”

“What?” They stared at each other for a minute. “I wasn’t lying…” Grace shrugged her shoulders.

“I don’t care, Grace. He has a big ego, stroked daily by…”

“Fans and hot models, actresses…”

“Yes, thank you.” Y/n shut her with a stern look. Deeply annoyed about that truth. "So he doesn’t need to know that we…sometimes-”

“Many, many, many times...”

“Why- shut up!” Y/n walked away towards the living area, which connects directly with the kitchen. “We don’t talk about him that much…and even if we did, he doesn't need to know, okay?"

“It was a joke!” Grace followed her, plopping at Y/n’s side on the big couch.

Y/n hold a scream, saying “I can’t stand you sometimes.”

Grace laughed at her antics. “You love me. Anyway…” she dragged the start of the phrase too much for Y/n’s liking. “What’s really going on?”

“What do you mean?” Y/n tried to keep her voice tone as normal as she could.

“No. Talk to me.” Grace warned her. Turning, so they were face to face while sitting on the big white couch. “Y/n…”

“I-” She didn’t know where to start. Not even her understood what was really going on inside her head.

After a week of having Matty around, her nerves were over the top. As she said, the frontman was fulfilling his duties as Amelia’s father like a champ. He was always like that once he was home. Being the perfect father and co-parent. Years before, she would not have believed it was possible. Never. But so many times he made her swallow her words, or thoughts, for what this matter involved. Once, he explained to her how guilty he sometimes felt while being away. Voicing his worries to her warmed Y/n’s heart.

They were truly friends, co-parenting a beautiful girl. Although being a parent was hard. A life full of joy, but full of worries as well. The fear of fucking her little mind creeping inside Matty’s mind, but Y/n’s as well. They bond over sharing good moments, but mostly through surfing the waves of sadness and hard times.

Y/n couldn’t complain about his behaviour during the week. At the same time, Y/n couldn’t ignore the growing pain inside her chest. He was being a pal, but not her partner.

Everything went even south the night before. She was laying in bed, exhausted after a long day full of: playing, changing nappies, a walk to the park, feeding Amelia and bath time. She could clearly hear from her bedroom -which was at the other side of the hall on the first floor-, Matty softly singing to Amelia. He was the one in charge of bedtime. With him sound tracking, Y/n scrolled through Instagram. Hundreds of notifications. Her accounts were private, but people managed to constantly tag her.

The same picture repeating itself plastered on her phone screen. Matty walking with a girl. No holding hands, no kissing, no nothing. The speculations were there, under, as texts and comments. People convinced the girl walking along was a worldwide known model. Matty looked kind of tired at her side, everything about her looked perfect. Y/n locked the device, leaving it on the bedside table. She took a deep breath and tried to sleep. Her mind racing with thoughts kept her wide awake for longer than she wanted to accept. Not conclusions, only a sour heart.

“Nothing. It's nonsense.” Y/n told Grace.

“It's not nothing if it is worrying you…” Y/n laughed, loudly. The irony.

“Nothing is really wrong. He’s a great father, Amelia is happy to have him back…work is good.”

“But?”

“What?”

“But something is clearly disturbing you...”

Y/n succumbed to Grace’s inquiries. “It’s so stupid. We have an arrangement…everything we do- Matty and I, everything we do around here is for Amelia to be happy and healthy-” She rambled, not really making sense.

“But?”

“But I’m sinking down.” Y/n admitted. Those words directly to her more than to her friend.

“Why?” Grace knew she was pushing a little, feeling at the same time as it was for the better. “Why are you sinking?”

“It’s selfish…”

“Stop beating around the bush, you idiot. Say it!”

“I want someone to care for me, to fucking love me…”

Grace looked at her like a third eye appeared on her forehead. “Amelia adores you, I adore you…”

“I don’t mean it like that, Grace! It’s been so long since someone…you know” Grace busted into a fit of laugh. “Are you fucking laughing?” Y/n couldn’t believe her.

“Yes!” Grace said, trying to contain the sound but failing miserably. She started to roll on the couch. Y/n stood up.

“Stop laughing!”

“I can’t believe the crap you said.”

Y/n was starting to get pissed. It took a lot of her to express those feelings, and Grace wasn’t taking her seriously. “Thanks for being emphatic.”

“No, no..” Grace seated back up, drying her eyes. “I am.”

“You are no-”

“Shhhh-” Y/n friend lifted a single finger. “My time to talk!” she grinned when Y/n kept her silence. “I understand what you are saying…but please, if you want someone to fuck you-”

“That’s not the only thing I want.” Y/n screaming while blushing massively.

“Fine, yeah- still, you can go on dates!”

“Fucking when Grace? I have a daughter to raise...”

“She has a father, she has me…the boys would do it for her and for you, you know that. Amelia has an uncle, and granpare-”

“Yeah, but I’m her mother!” Y/n started to pass around the living room. She knew deep down those were merely excuses.

“Matty is his father. Doesn’t stop him from hooking up, date or whatever.” Grace tried to present her thoughts without knowing it was a dagger directly towards Y/n’s heart. Y/n looked down. The pictures came to her mind. “Y/n…” She snapped out of her daydreaming.

Y/n cleaned her throat. “Yeah, you’re right.” Her heart was aching. “I should-”

“Oh, no-” Grace looked through her.

Y/n’s head snapped up, her eyes wide. “What?”

“Don’t tell me…”

“I haven’t-”

“Shit, Y/n.”

“What?!”

“He’s fucking half of the population of the planet. He’s not made for being a good partner…”

“Don’t who- What you’re tal-”

“Matty.”

Y/n knew her facade was weak. At that moment of the conversation she couldn’t stop. “What about him?”

“Look at me and say you’re not waiting around for him.”

Y/n shut up. She was the one aware of her feelings. Although, she never thought she was doing what Grace implied she was doing. She felt light-headed. Y/n sat down slowly on the couch. “Am I doing that?” She asked herself.

“Y/n…”

“Fuck-” she closed her eyes tight. “No.” Y/n jumped from the couch. Her mind was working hard. Hurting a little. “I’m not waiting for him. Maybe I was excusing myself from dating…” She rambled out loud, starting to form a believable tale.

Grace tried to warn her. “He’s not going to stop dating hot girls…not that you aren’t hot, just-”

“Yeah, I know.”

“I bet he’s good at…it. That's not enough though-”

“Yes.”

“He cheated before-”

“We don’t know that for a fact-”

“Y/n…”

“Do you still have Paul’s number?” Y/n asked suddenly.

“Maybe. Why?”

“Give it to me.”

“Y/n…you need to slow down”

“Grace, give it to me!”

She grabbed her phone reluctantly, sending Y/n her cousin's phone number. Y/n started typing seconds after opening her phone. She was high on some cocktail of feelings, and Grace didn’t know how to or if she had to interfere. Maybe it was for the best. She hopped.

Suddenly, Y/n left the phone in the middle of the coffee table. “Done” she said.

“Mhm?” Grace was unsure.

“I have a date. Friday night.”

Grace couldn’t believe what was happening. “You’re crazy!”

“That’s new to you?” Matty asked -obviously- joking about it. Grace and Y/n felt like teenagers being caught after smoking for the first time. “Are you two okay?” he asked, fearing the answer due to their faces and sharing looks.

He left Amelia on the floor. She walked towards Y/n, who lifted her up. “Yes.” she responded, kissing her daughter, trying to find some comfort.

“Why then do you look like someone died?”

Grace laughed, trying to break the tension. “You just scared us. Wasn’t expecting you here so soon.”

“Yeah, well…mel-mel was screaming for a change of diapers. Forgot those at home. So…”

“Right!” Grace continued talking. Y/n was struggling to keep her calm, although she felt so pathetic.

“Y/n, are you feeling alright?”

“Yeah, wh-”

“She has a date...with Paul!” Grace shouted, scaring all of them. Making Amelia cry.

“Thanks, Grace!” Y/n’s voice was full of sarcasm. She walked away with her baby crying, trying to calm her.

She wasn’t far enough, she listened to Matty and her friend talking. “Paul, your prince charming cousin Paul?” Matty asked, Y/n felt a wave of regret. He sounded pissed, she thought. Y/n shushed Amelia, and herself too.

“Erm, yeah..him.”

“Y/n..” Matty went searching for her. He found her quickly. The lead singer stopped at the door, watching and analysing every one of Y/n’s movements.

“Yeah?”

“Are you really going on a date?” The question angered her. Who was him to ask that? She never questioned his dating behaviours. Never. Especially when those came with a tsunami of articles. Their personal romantic lives were out of the arrangement about co-parenting and living together. They weren’t a couple. He was not allowed or supposed to question her dating behaviours.

“Yes,” she said firmly. “Why?”

That took Matty back. “I-”

“Can you look after Mel…or I can ask-”

“Yes, I can. When?”

“Friday night.”

“Friday night” he repeated. “Okay, I have to check some tracks- Since I had to leave early, George sent them- ” Matty abruptly informed them, stumbling with his words. “Nice to see you, Grace.” and he was out of sight.

Grace walked out of the living room slowly. Making herself visible for mother and daughter. “Now I have a good reason to kill you.” Y/n stated.

Grace smiled wide. “I’m this beauty godmother, you can’t.” She took Amelia in her arms. The little girl laughed, and some tension disappeared from her mother's body.

She tried not to think too hard about Matty’s reaction. She focused on the date. No spark on her body, maybe it would come closer to it, to Friday. She tried to believe this was for the better. Grace was right, Matty wasn’t probably made to be her partner, but someone out there was.

I am a photographer and writer in my early thirties who spent her childhood telling stories to herself while riding her bike in circles around her driveway. Inspired by other fics:

The Adventures of Gonky the Cat - Slight spoiler, Gonky is a cat in the modern AU fic Roasted, Brewed, & Served with Attitude (see description below), and I decided to write his backstory/fill in some of his adventures. This is a WIP, currently there are no spoilers in it, but eventually there will be some chapters that give spoilers for later in the story (and will be noted as such).

Gemini Eyes - This one shot fits in as a chapter in between chapters 85 and 87 of Roasted, Brewed, & Served with Attitude (see description below). DO NOT read it unless you have made it that far in Mel's work, otherwise you will have pretty significant spoilers. I had a lot of fun working with Mel's versions of each character, and it's always a joy to write Tech's thought processes and mannerisms.

Fic Recs

Roasted, Brewed, & Served with Attitude - by MelMorganne99 over on AO3. It's a clever, emotional, modern AU with Crosshair x OC (and one of the best OC characters I've ever read). This fic helped me understand and appreciate the nuances of Crosshair's personality and emotional journey, and has given me endless writing inspiration. And the author is one of the kindest, most engaging people I've ever met online. Please, please, please do yourself a favor and read it. There are 99 chapters but they're on the short side and full of snarky humor and sometimes surprising cameos. This is a full blown fix it fic too, although not always in the ways you might expect!

The Vacation - by @staycalmandhugaclone is one of the best Crosshair fics (and smut fics in general) I've ever read. The writing style haunts me and both Crosshair and the OC are beautifully characterized.

I feel like I need to make a little rundown of everything UNIT and Kate Stewart has done since being re-introduced in s7, but I also want to finish watching classic!who so I can make that comparison more effectively. certainly in pertwee-era of doctor who there was some critique and analysis of UNIT's methods as a military group and that the doctor kind of had to work with them to begin with because he didn't have a working tardis (+ already knew the brigadier and UNIT from troughton-era)

liz shaw and jo grant both start with UNIT and both leave UNIT, partially after narratives where they're at odds with what the institution represents and how easy it is for it to abuse power and/or simply make bad choices to begin with (liz taking the doctor's side several times and eventually quitting, although with that slightly lazy--pseudo-feminist "she didn't want to fetch the teas" explanation given post-leaving when there was definitely a lot more going on for her than that, but I think that was the way the actress was feeling so I can see the meta reasonings in it, and jo figuring out that she believes in different ways of protecting the earth joining a radical group and yeah ok straight up getting engaged to that welsh guy after two days, but she was considering leaving before then anyway), and sarah-jane just enters spaces and acts like she belongs there and nobody knows how to tell her to leave, but she's frequently not on UNIT's side so much as the side of Truth (I say, we now enter fourth doctor era so we'll see)

but yeah, the brigadier was there from the beginning, and there's yates and whatshisface, so there's the humanising faces depicting UNIT as essentially for good from the get-go, despite episodes where they're definitely antagonists. but then reintroduced in nu!who s4 as... not quite comfortable to the doctor/partly as that season's narrative of how the doctor affects their companions for worse and inspires them to become soldiers. so they're not the bad guys in the same way torchwood of s2 were, but they aren't comfortable allies either

so now I'm on s9 and... dunno. they're not quite what they were at the beginning, and they're not what they were in s4. more than anything they feel like a get-out-of-jail free card for whatever writer needs to do something that would be easier to solve with a big handy institution with guns, but don't want to analyse the idea of a big handy institution with guns, so we're told that UNIT is "good" but I keep waiting for someone -- osgood and/or bingham -- to become that next liz shaw, and for kate stewart to be confirmed an antagonist based on said rundown I haven't made of her actions, which at best are often ineffectual and at worst some near-villain shit

rtd in the new specials continues writing UNIT the way it has been since s7 -- the same issues and questions about it are at the forefront, with a couple of new ones thrown in (an institution that's very diverse does not make it any less a paramilitary institution and in fact makes one highly suspicious of its propaganda campaign), but I hope he remembers some of the ways they caused problems during three's era, or the way his own original run at least complicated the doctor's feelings about them and I hope he ends up reintroducing those complications with fifteen but x 1000

and. kate stewart needs to become an antagonist. in my opinion. she'd make a very good antagonist, considering how much history there is between her and the doctor. that's another post though, but I want to make a list of every time KS has tried to deal with a situation with extra-judicial violence, because it is practically every episode she's in (if not every episode she's in)

I can buy the doctor feeling some kinda way, because UNIT was the brigadier, was liz, was jo, was yates and whatshisface (sorry I have forgotten his name), was a time where they were stuck and in need of help and UNIT did help them, and then it was also martha and now mel... the doctor built real personal connections with UNIT, but as a structure it is hiiiighly dubious At Best and fully just no-good the majority of the time

#i also dont remember what happens to osgood #we'll see!#i dont like the doctor being president of the world in this season #and i don't like how easily he works with UNIT sending out troops in this double-episode although he does suggest other ways #it's the part of nu!who that loses me -- when it moves away from People and focuses on the pov of institutional powers #but it can at aaany point choose to pivot again so it's not like it's The Dealbreaker #it's just that i am sat here waiting for the pivot #me doing that scene from friends: PIVOOOOT!!!! I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet, but as I caught myself doing it, I realized it was very likely a good chunk of others are also - I think having the racist parts included in the poll is going to heavily skew the data anyway because people will, very likely, not feel able to vote for something racist in good conscience, and so the votes the racist screams would have gotten if they weren't racist are lost, thus making the data unusable due to personal bias. not even considering the number of people abstaining completely, dropping the pool of data further! I'm not aware if this has been broached yet, but I think it's definitely worth noting that the data for the racist clips will always be untrustworthy, even if the scream itself is good. On top of all of the other reasons why they should be omitted ofc!

GOD YEAH. i feel so dumb going “🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 well gee you make a good point there 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔” all contemplatively because i’m realizing that was my intent too, in that “well hopefully they’ll whittle down as the rounds go further and further” has been constantly harping on my mind. but that absolutely feeds into everything you laid out too, which, again, i DEEPLY appreciate.

i’ll be doing that, then, in that i think it’s the safest and SMARTEST course of action. it’s likewise been pointed out that the setting is a little different here than if i were doing one of my analyses, in that i’m still making it available to vote for one of those options, and that interactive element innately delegitimizes the harm/makes light of it under the guise of a poll.

i was conflating that perspective with my analyses, which IS often a more objective presentation of “okay: this is it. here is the historical context. here is how a more modern perspective impacts how it currently stands” and forgetting that polls are polls. you’re voting on them. they’re going to get spread around and viewed as a game. and they are! and i was viewing the polls from the same archivist lens as the rest of my blog, when, due to the intrinsic nature of how these polls works, you can’t really do that. it’s not the same presentation. i do view this as a historical archival of the progression of these cartoons, how Mel Blanc’s voice changes and adapts through voice direction and even the impact of history on these shorts (like, the shorts made during the WWII years are much more energetic than the domesticity of the post-war cartoons. there’s more yelling to be found in the WWII era shorts for that reason) and i was getting too lost in that and sticking to my guns of “all of this is history and deserves to be acknowledged and accounted for fairly, if/especially describing how well or poorly something has aged, otherwise it’s not history” and that doesn’t… really… work… for these polls.

i can’t believe it’s taken weeks for me to come to this realization and again, i sincerely thank you and everyone else who has called me out on this or offered other means of perspective. it was pure ignorance on my behalf, and i do want to make it known that it was never my intention to perpetuate these stereotypes and caricatures further nor harm anyone. but, obviously, prefacing it with “my intentions were good!” doesn’t negate the very real and serious harm these caricatures and i myself have caused by spreading them in such a leisurely context (or lack thereof).

as mentioned before, i take the safety and comfort of my followers and readers incredibly seriously, ESPECIALLY with the nature of these cartoons. and it’s exactly why i’m so adamant about asking people (such as yourself) to speak up and call me out, let me know what i’ve done wrong, so i can apologize, take accountability, and move forward. those disclaimers aren’t a way to avoid accountability or make it seem like i have a free pass to discuss racism. i really do mean them with every ounce of my heart, so i deeply, deeply, deeply appreciate people such as yourself acting out on those messages. thank you.

i will be excising any future deplorable examples that come up (that, thankfully, have been very few and far between, i’m up to 1948 in logging these and have “only” run into 2 that would apply) and am just going to cut any of the winners out that survived and are going into Round 2. it’s not worth it. none of it has been, but definitely, if i’m constantly thinking to myself “it’ll whittle down!” then maybe we ought to restructure our thinking now haven’t we. funny how that works.

thank you again and my deepest and most sincere apologies. i feel like a complete and utter heel for my negligence—especially because the gut instinct of “just don’t put them in there” was there all along. but, again! these exact situations are why i stress the importance of calling me out on my BS. i’m likewise deeply aware of literally just how silly this entire thing sounds, because none of this should have ever been a problem because i just shouldn’t have included them in the first place! but i did, and i take full accountability, and the harm has already been done. so i just ask and thank you for your patience, understanding and forgiveness, but completely understand that nobody—especially those harmed by my ignorance—is entitled to give it to me.

nobody ever deserves to be confronted nor harmed with such egregious stereotypes, even/especially if said stereotypes are peddled under the guise of objectivity or historical preservation. a poll is not a history site. likewise, nobody deserves to be alienated over cartoons. i post what i post because i want to share the same overflowing love and passion and joy i feel for animation history with others. i love learning new factoids. i love being educated. i love feeling like i’m learning, like i’m indulging in an intimate slice of life from a bygone era. i want to share that same love and passion and joy to my followers. i’m here to make people laugh and to make people smile. i’m here to remind people of long buried memories, or to inspire them to make new ones and investigate these cartoons themselves. i’m here to preserve the history of these cartoons within their proper contexts, and do what i can to ensure i’m doing that safely and smartly and in a way that benefits everyone. and i’m not going to accomplish any of that by slipping needlessly horrendous caricatures in something as inconsequential as a poll on which clip sounds funnier or more impressive or whatever and causing the harm.

Hi nnt fandom I need help.

As you know, I’m a slow fanfic writer who loves nanatsu and 4kota with all my heart (I know it has a lot of flaws but is my comfort fandom cause you’re so chill and there aren’t lots of people) but, I’m struggling.

As some of you may know, I’m currently writing a nnt fantasy-modern au and I’m trying to include every character from the manga, that’s not the part I’m struggling with, it’s something a bit worse.

Before explaining, I’d like to give you a bit of background info. I’m a person who loves analysing people, it makes me calm to do so as it helps me to know how to act around people, what’s the best approach towards certain situations depending on the people I’m with or to predict situations. I’m conclusion, it makes me feel prepared for my daily life (yeah I know that it can cause anxiety and shit and it’s not very healthy to over analyse everything but I already have anxiety so :/)

This characteristic of mine actually helps me in other tasks too, one of them is to understand characters and their objectives or just write situations that happens between different personalities, that’s why I think it’s so fun to be a fanfic writer!

But as you may know, some characters are much more complex to understand for some people, and that’s what I wanted to talk about cause the character I have problems with is MY OWN PROTAGONIST.

Yep, that’s Meliodas. I have soooo much trouble writing him cause I can’t comprehend him or can’t feel empathy towards him.

Weird huh? Cause he’s the most traumatised character of the anime. He’s the protagonist for the love of god, how can’t I understand the character with the most screen time of all the anime? Idk, well maybe yes, I’ll explain the reason in the rebloggs of this post, maybe the Mel lovers can help me.

Can I just say that I absolutely LOVE how ever since they all found out that MC is human and was brought here against their will, it was Lucifer who kept insisting that they shouldn't be the ones to trap MC in the Devildom. That whether they want to stay or not is a decision MC has to make themself and that the brothers should support them no matter what they end up choosing

And now that the moment is finally here, now that MC has confirmed that they indeed plan on heading home, and now that all of his brothers agreed on helping them get back, having forged a pact and lending their powers to do so—

Now that he knows that he's the final piece needed to send them back; that the lingering idea of the yet to be forged pact between them is what's stopping MC from potentially leaving their side for good, leaving his side for good—

Now that they have finally gotten to this point, he realizes something. And he's unable to live with it

And so, he goes back on his word.

He's taking that choice from them.

"I don't want to."

Lucifer's pride is what keeps his voice leveled and neutral, as if it were just another day. As if he everything was completely fine. As if he didn't feel this pain in his heart, almost as if someone had rammed a dagger through his chest over and over and over again

To most people, he'd appear to be in perfect control of his emotions—if only his gaze wouldn't completely obliterated that frail façade of his. The way his beautiful dark eyes shimmering with a hint of blood red silently plead, beg MC to stay...

Internally, he is breaking apart because he knows what he is doing isn't right. He knows that he shouldn't trap them like a bird in a cage, and yet he can't help himself. Not in this situation. Not when it comes to MC

'No'

He—Lucifer, Avatar of Pride himself—is the last thing trapping the very person that finally made him realize what his sister had meant forever ago

'I won't let you go'

How one day, someone would stumble their way into his life, and how he'd love them so wholeheartedly and so deeply that everything else would become trivial as long as he'd get to hold them in his arms

'I can't let you go'

Someone that he'd happily throw away everything for, not even considering any alternatives if only for the shred of a chance at just one last tomorrow with them

'Please stay with us. Please stay with me'

Everything.

'I cannot lose you, MC'

Even if they'll never forgive him for it.

I will be yelling about Abby now (The Last of Us character Analysis)

Note: havent done this in awhile, so sorry if its messed up :P

I swear to god if I see one more hate post about Abby Im going to wither away. Its mostly reddit dudes I see that hate on Abby now, but I still see some Abby hate in this fandom and I will NOT stand for it 😤 (major tlou spoilers)

Abby and Ellie: Two Sides of the Same Coin

In my opinon, if after seeing what happened to Abby in her point of view, you still hate her, you missed the entire point of the game. You probably let your first impression of her cloud your view. The first time we met her, she was literally beating Joel (the main character that you probably were attached to) to death. So yeah, the game wants you to hate her at that moment.

The game goes on as Ellie, taking revenge for Joels death. She practically lost her mind over it. Then, we find out the reason behind Abby hunting down and killing Joel.

Joel killed Abbys dad. The exact same thing that happened to Ellie, happened to Abby. If not, worse than Ellie, considering Ellie killed everyone she loves afterwords.

The game replays itself through Abbys point of view. From Abbys point of view, everyone with Ellie and Joel are the enemy. Joel killed her father when he was getting Ellie from the fireflies. So, Abby gets revenge, and that causes a domino effect. Joels death causes Ellie to also take revenge; killing Manny, Owen, Nora, Alice, Mel, and countless others. So now, Abby is left alone with only Lev. Shes also obviously not welcome in the Washington Liberation Front anymore, so shes basically left all alone, literally a single mom. (HELP SHES A SINGLE MOM I JUST REALIZED THIS)

Dont get me wrong, Ellie has it hard, too. Revenge for Joels death sunk so deep into her mind she literally left her wife and child to do it, only to realize her and Abby are the same. BUT, her family is still alive, at least. Abby is no longer allowed in her home, and most of her friends and family are dead.

As it says in the top of the post, Abby and Ellie are just two sides of the same coin. They both have the same motives to do what theyre doing. If you like one and hate the other your opinion is wrong idc what you say
