thinking about the soundtrack to Obi-Wan and Vader's confrontation scene in part III. how the moment he first wields his lightsaber - the first time igniting it in 10 years, the first time since he last used it to fight his best friend - and how I was expecting that this moment of reclaiming the lightsaber, the weapon of the Jedi, and reconnecting with the Force would be a moment of triumph for him. and it wasn't. and how I was expecting to hear The Force Theme at a moment like this, how we've all been trained by all the movies and shows preceding this, how at those moments when all seems lost and our heroes finally take a stand - we hear that uplifting melody. but we didn't this time.

instead, we hear Obi-Wan's theme. they're so similar in a way - a mournful horn solo against a stark, nearly empty background, just a layer of string tremolos underneath. Obi-Wan's theme contains that same magical perfect fourth interval that defines one of John Williams's most iconic compositions of all time, and I keep expecting to hear it quoted in his theme. but we never get it. I keep wanting to hear The Force Theme in Obi-Wan's theme but it always pivots at the last moment, it always strikes a different chord... just as we see him turning away from the Force, cutting himself off, quite literally running away from who he was and the life he can no longer lead.

and instead his theme is defined by the minor third and the minor sixth intervals, which are so commonly associated with sorrow. that perfect fourth, so prevalent in so much of Williams's music for this universe, surfaces only a few times in Obi-Wan's theme, always to be quickly overtaken by these haunting, discordant descending chromatic lines. just a hint of the song we know. just a hint of the man we believe he can be.

Dropping off a prompt or three

Ministry!Undertaker gets his ass kicked by Shawn.

Something bad happens to Shawn (no death) and the Undertaker loses it and Ministry!Undertaker makes an appearance and deals with it.

The nail salon techs never say a word when hot biker guy and his daughter show up and get matching pedicures.

So sorry this took so long. Like incredibly ridiculously long. And their all short. I kinda did prompts more than fics. Sorry I just wanted to get them out

1. Excuse me?

Shawn raises an eyebrow. What did this man just say?

The smirk slowly falls off ministry's face as he sees the look in the shorter man's eyes. "I...I didn't mean it?" Ministry questions as he steps back. Paul looks at Ministry confused. "You are stepping foot in my lockeroom where my kids are sleeping and you want to insult my husband? The husbands who's body you have stolen?" Shawn growls putting his hair up. "Wait wait I didnt mean it like that" Ministry protests. "What are you doing?!" Paul barks. "Taker is scared of him so it makes me!" Ministry protests. "Hes a smart man that's why" Shawn snaps. John holds a baby cassie close whilst Leon stops colouring to watch.

And both are glad they do.

Kane stands there confused as the shorter man punches ministry square in the nose.

Shawn hisses and shakes his hand as ministry's nose pops immediately, blood pouring out of it. "Fuck!" Ministry yelps holding his nose.

Paul raises an eyebrow. Shawn can hurt ministry? That's impossible.

"Shit" Shawn gasps cradling his hand to his chest. "You better get to stepping before I leave you black and blue" Shawn snarls at the taller man. Ministry straightens his back and looks at the blood pooling in his hands. Kane goes to step forward when ministry blocks him. "We do not have time. Leave it." He mutters.

Shawn watches as they storm out before he whimpers and looks down at his hand.

A bag of ice reaches into his view. He turns to see lil Leon holding it up. "Thanks peach" Shawn smiles accepting it. He fears this won't be his last confrontation with ministry. But it will be the last infront of his kids.

2. Guard dogs

"Dad!" John yells. Taker is up out his seat in a instant. He rushes to the younger man. "John? What's wrong?" Taker asks. John points at the screen.

Taker sees red.

Jericho and Christian have jumped Shawn in the car park.

John watches as takers eyes turn fully white, his whole aura changes. Its no longer taker, he knows that.

Ministry doesn't say a word as he turns and teleports away. John watches as the cameras suddenly go down and they are taken back to commentary. "Oh shit" John huffs.

He'd hate to be them right now.

Chris chuckles as shawn groans and tries to hide his face. "Not so touch now hey?" Christian smirks. "Ye-" "I don't know, are you?" A voice growls behind them. Both men slowly turn to see taker. "Taker!" Chris yelps as Ministry grabs them both by the throat. "You think this was a smart idea boys?" Ministry growls. Both men start protesting and trying to wiggle away. Ministry lifts them up and slams them into the concrete. "You messed with the wrong boy toy" Ministry growls before sinking to his knees beside Shawn.

"You good?" Ministry asks not wanting to touch the man. Shawn peaks at him. "Ministry?" "Yeah, taker will be back soon. Just wanted to make sure you're okay" Ministry huffs. "He will want to do some damage to them tho" Ministry adds. "Good. Thank you." Shawn whispers. "Anytime kid."

Shawn watches as takers eyes turn normal. "Are you alright?" Taker asks helping him sit up. "Yes, Thank you." Shawn nods. Taker looks at the out cold heels. "Those bastards" "I think you've already done enough. Cmon, help me to medic" Shawn huffs. "Yeah okay" Taker nods.

3. Daddy-Daughter time

"Daddy cmon!" Cassie whines tugging takers arm. Taker glances at the nail salon. "We are supposed to be buying stuff for Leon and John's party." Taker points out. "Please" she flashes her eyes at him. Taker sighs. "Fine." Taker leads the girl into the very quiet salon. He ignores the stares. "Can we have two pedicure please?" Cassie asks. Taker groans. "Of course. Follow me" the woman smiles.

Taker pays the woman and moves to the door. "We'll be back!" Cassie smiles, pulling taker out before he can protest.

And they did. They went back everytime they were in town. Even as they got older.

And the staff did not mind.

"See you later Cassie" Skylar calls as the slightly older girl drags her father out. "Hes still scary even as a biker." The old woman whispers. Skylar looks at the customer. "We will take no hot biker guy slander here." Skylar scolds. "Seriously?" "Yes seriously, he's hot and he's a dad. And that's a very happy little girl. So he's always welcomed here." Blair calls.

But YES exactly! I've honestly thought about the whole thing for a while ever since a friend made me read her fav Isekai manhwas and I kept seeing all the comments complaining about MCs wanting to stick to the original plot and whatnot bc like

Transmigration already comes with some trouble by itself (the jarring experience of suddenly being in a completely different place and BODY. The different problems that arise depending on if you get the body's memories or not. Identity crisis. Depriving the og person and all those around them from. Everything. Whether it might be "love" or "the consequences of their actions". And what all of that does with you)

But transmigrating into a world where you're familiar with what's going to happen is just another layer on top of that because like you said, once you've changed something, even just a seemingly minor detail, it can completely spiral out of control and you lose the advantage. And in the absolute worst case it could be that you change some small things for the better but then the big things happen in a way you can no longer predict and thus prevent, or maybe become even worse. And that's definitely not gonna be a pleasant discovery to make. But even worst cases aside, being able to "predict the future" really can give you such a sense of security, especially in an unfamiliar environment where you'll inevitably feel very isolated in some way too, and I don't think that's something easy to give up

Or, you know. Maybe fate is a thing and your actions actually don't matter, they just make things happen in a different way. And how could you reliably tell the difference?

Sorry for being unable to shut up but it's honestly SUCH a fascinating trope for me especially since there's so many possibilities and potential that rarely gets explored even in stories that explicitly include or are about transmigrating! You can get really deep and philosophical about it even which is unfortunately my favourite thing to do haha

The Viper's Sister - Hook

Warning: Smut will be in part 2, but things get a little steamy in this part.

"Hey Y/N! How do you like it here? I know it must be weird to be away from Randy."

I turn around seeing Taz walking towards me and his son Hook following him. "Hey Taz, it is definitely a change that I am adjusting to, but it is nice to know he can't always poke his nose in my business. Don't get me wrong I love my brother, but I couldn't talk to a guy without him questioning me about it."

Hook looked up from his phone and let his eyes run over your body shamelessly before his dad hits him upside his head. "Keep it in your pants son. Don't scare her away already." I smirk as he shrugs and walks away leaving me with Taz. "I'm so sorry about my son, he may be the handsome devil in the ring, but he's clueless when it comes to women." We talked for a bit more until he had to get ready for commentary and I went to catering to get a snack.

When I get to catering, I sit down at a table and eat as I scroll through my phone until I see someone sit down next to me. I look him to see Hook leaning back in the chair with his arms crossed over his chest. "I hope my dad didn't bore you too much earlier." He watched intently as I set my phone down and turned my attention to him.

"Your dad is great to talk to he knows so much about this business. Plus, I'm used to that with Randy since I am so much younger than him." I watched him nod his head as he uncrossed his arms and leaned forward.

"I know he thinks I'm clueless when it comes to the ladies, but trust me I know what I like and right now I'm looking at it." I almost choked on the water I was sipping as I tried to stop myself from laughing.

"Really? I think your pops might be onto something. You need to work on your game if you plan on landing a hot piece of ass like me." I stood up and walked away swaying my hips a bit more than normal as he bites his lip and watches me walk away.

The following week, I saw Hook trying to work up the courage to talk to me again, but he seemed to be unsure of himself. I started to feel bad as I might have broken his confidence, but I'm sure he can man up and make a move if he really wants me. Danhausen points towards me as they talk in the corner and Hook tries to look unbothered and Danhausen waves me over.

"Well, if it isn't my favorite devil and demon together in one place. What have you boys been talking about?" Danhausen tries to speak up, but Hook puts his hand on his chest and lightly pushes him back.

"We were just discussing your brother and how he would try to RKO me if he knew what I said last week." I try to refrain from showing emotion as Randy's protectiveness is one of the reasons I wanted to come to AEW.

"He probably would, but I'm a grown ass woman and I can stand up for myself and make my own decisions. My love life does not concern him." Hook's eyebrows perk up and he chuckles lightly before walking closer to me and backing me into the wall as Danhausen retreats to the locker room.

"I never said anything about love. Maybe you are the one getting ahead of yourself." I gulped as I looked up into his eyes seeing them full of lust.

Before I could even respond, he pressed his hips into mine and started leaving feather light kisses along my jawline. "Hook, we can't."

I could feel him smirk against my earlobe before he whispered in my ear. "What the Viper's sister is scared of getting caught?"

I groan as he slowly starts to grind his hips into mine. "Not scared, just don't want to get fired for fucking on the job."

He starts to suck the spot right under my ear as he wraps one of my legs around his hips opening me up for him. "Your body says otherwise. You seem pretty tense and I am very willing to help you relax."

I groan before I hear my name being called in the distance. "Shit, my match. Meet me back here after the show and we can finish this."

Hook smirks and smacks my ass as I jog away to go fight Anna Jay. I beat her in a few minutes, but she keeps giving me a strange look. When I pinned her she whispered to me, "What's on your neck?"

I shook my head ignoring her expecting her to just be playing mind games, but once I got backstage Danhausen came up to me and pointed to my neck. "Oh no, Y/Nhausen was bitten by a vampire!"

I went over to the Glam Squad and saw a hickey forming on my neck. I tried to stay calm, but I saw his backpack and knew he couldn't be far. "Hook! Get your ass over here."

He smirked as he sauntered over to me and ran his thumb over the hickey. "Y/N, what did you do?"

I grabbed his hoodie and pulled him down to be face to face with me. "Get your shit and pull your car around. We aren't waiting anymore." He smiles and walks off as I go back to the locker room to find my phone ringing.

I groan as I answer my brother:

"Hey Randy!"

"Don't hey Randy me right now. I saw the hickey on your neck, you better start explaining."

I huffed "I am a grown woman and I can make my own decisions. If I had known there was a hickey, I would have covered it. My mistake."

"You know how I feel about you leaving and I know I can't control you, but I'm looking out for your image. I don't want people to start calling your trashy because you have hickeys."

"I know! It won't happen again, but please just let me have my love life without you threatening to RKO every man I talk to."

He chuckles and sighs "I will try my best. Good match by the way, glad to see you learned some moves from me."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, goodnight Randy."

"Goodnight Y/N"

I hang up the phone and get changed into street clothes before heading out to find Hook in his car. "Get in sweet cheeks!"

I rolled my eyes as I got in the car and looked over at him. "Just drive you handsome devil." He smiled as he drove out of the parking lot heading to the hotel.

I'm still enjoying WHY R U? Korean remake, even though it's really different from the Thai original. I think it's super interesting to see what they think the core of the characters and the most important story beats are, on top of reworking specifically-Thai things into what will work for Korean viewers - which was the biggest question mark to me, previously, but they just reworked the Thai freshie hazing, for example.

However, I'm not sure the film angle works for this plot. I know it's more a narrative device and I think it does work for SaifahZon/Ji Oh x Lee Won (granted I haven't seen the SaifahZon Story), even though they've abandoned Zon's writing. But I don't see what it adds to the other couple, TutorFighter already had enough going on with Tutor's jobs, Fighter's dad, and Hwahwa (oh how I miss the cuteness and sass of Hwa! Sorry, Do Yeon, you're lovely in your own right but Hwa's The Moment, I don't make the rules).

I'm still waiting to see if they've truly and completely taken the bite and fire out of Tutor/Seon Woo but it sure looks like it. This couple is pretty far removed from the original, in general - they lack the tension that is so crucial for TutorFighter as well as Fighter's coming to terms with his attraction to Tutor (Zee did so so well). Also I don't see the animosity lol

And I don't know if it's because people in K-dramas are always too well-dressed or what but it feels like we've kinda lost the class difference angle. Yes, we see Seon Woo working several jobs, talking about loans, and see the inside of his fridge, but it's not really hitting, if that makes sense? Tutor and Hwa are close friends despite their differences but there's no hint of that for Seon Woo and Do Yeon, for example. Maybe commentary on class, wealth and social status is just more inherently tied to Thai media?

Oh, and can someone who watches more K-dramas tell me if the amount of dubbing happening in this show is normal and to be expected?? I'm so used to the way Thai series are shot, where even if the sound they recorded sucks they'll rarely ever ADR it, that the amount of smooth studio-quality speaking lines throws me off every god damn time.

I guess my take right now is Interesting but too surface-level (can't believe I'm implying the og had depth lol I may misremember stuff but I do remember some of the more ridiculous beats)

A Vision in the Mirror Masterpost (OOC)

Taking the same concept from my old masterpost, this one will start out with a few FAQs and follow with a plot summary of what's going on under the cut, to keep up easily! Tags for this arc include #a vision in the mirror and for previous leadup posts, #vision prelude. Posts will also be tagged with appropriate stakes for the scene/consequences of what's going on, but on average, stuff is high stakes.

What should I know going in?

Similar to my last high stakes arc, this arc will cover some sensitive topics (all of which will be tagged alongside the arc tag and stakes)! Among them are mental health topics like anxiety, paranoia, depression, suicidality and self-injury, happenings like impersonation, defamation/blackmail, violence/death, fire (natural disaster), and general philosophizing in the "are humans and Pokémon actually equal" direction. A lot of these will largely only be alluded to on here, but better safe than sorry! Feel free to block the tag if it's not for you, I'll probably have a few lower-stakes posts somewhere in there (or maybe some ask games to break stuff up).

Also, this time, not everything is going to be RP'd live on-blog. If you're interested in seeing the behind-the-scenes you're welcome to the planning server (I can shoot you a link), but it'll be a bit heavier. The reason I'm doing this is both to reduce the intensity here, and to not flood everyone's dashboards. I'll still make summary posts of what's going on and am happy to answer asks about that! And of course, Vanilla or Cross will still be liveblogging everything crucial.

How can I participate?

Honestly, just send asks! Reblog stuff! This is pretty open, though if you'd like to be involved in anything in-person, DM me so I can add you to the planning server. I'd love to hear anyone's ideas along the way!

Know also that you can be as involved as you want in this. Some parts of this event will have wider-ranging consequences (city-wide, tops) but also, I absolutely don't expect people to get involved in that unless they want to! Who's important in this?

Vanilla: Vanilla (26, any) is the guy on the blog, a Hisuian Zorua hybrid, and probably a bit well-known for his own good at the moment. They've currently just finished their Unovan Gym Challenge (badge-gathering), and are trying to investigate what has caused their impersonation across several situations.

Colress: Colress (39, he/him) is back from wherever he was, and certainly not better than ever. His aims are unclear, but Vanilla has been keeping tabs on him via a pager gifted by Cheri, and holds some key information from his laptop. He currently has expressed intentions to reclaim his Klinklang from Rune.

Vision: A strange being (?, ??/??) who seems to be impersonating Vanilla perfectly. Believed to be tied to Colress, but in what way? Has a soft spot for Wolfgang, and has met with Cheri and Vanilla's parents.

Cross: Vanilla's Rotom, Cross (5, she/her), is a sweet, non-battling Pokémon whose main goal is Vanilla's safety. While she's normally sworn to secrecy, she'll break that in the name of saving her "boss". She's also quite nervous, pzzt.

Wolfgang: Wolfgang, or Wolfy (27, he/him) is a Hisuian Zoroark, Vanilla's half-sibling, and the father of four adorable Zorua kits with his mate, Mozart. He's currently serving as the interim leader of the Lostlorn Zoroark pack, but he's in frequent contact with Vanilla thanks to the power of cheap cell phones.

Cobalion: One of the Swords of Justice, Cobalion (many centuries, they/he) is convinced Vanilla will one day be a worthy chosen for their aims. As it is, however, they've left Vanilla to find her own answers. Unless the answers involve using the cool sword they've been gifted, in which case Cobalion is all in.

Cheri: Cheri (28, she/her) is the perpetual thorn in Vanilla's side, who also happens to be their recent ex and current "rival" after selling them out to Colress (and apologizing endlessly after the fact). A strong battler, she gifted Vanilla Chibi (formerly Fluffybutt) the Shiny Vanilluxe, and has expressed every intention of protecting Vanilla. As much as Vanilla insists he's really fine without the help.

Aspear: Aspear (28, he/him) is Cheri's twin, also a "rival" of Vanilla's, and perfectly happy to stay out of this situation, thank you.

What's the plot so far?

(Plot kept under the readmore for previously mentioned potentially triggering content.)

Prelude: After a battle with Cheri, Vanilla was bestowed with a pager Cheri had previously used to keep contact with Colress. Over the past few months, they've heard Colress speaking from the pager, but, frustratingly, nothing crucial. Lately, though, they've been hearing strange noises much like their own voice...

These strange noises seem corroborated by Wolfgang claiming to have seen somebody who looks, speaks, and even smells exactly like Vanilla, and by Cheri's own claims that she has talked to Vanilla's doppelganger.

At the same time, Colress has begun taking action, reaching out to Rune to demand the return of his Klinklang, to which he received a solid refusal. And at the same time, the Swords of Justice seem on edge...

Main Arc: Vanilla, with his increasing concern about being impersonated, begins to lower contact with others, and eventually, decides to return to their adoptive parents' home to lay low. When she finally returns, though, she learns that Maamaa, who was in her parent's care, was taken by her copycat to some unknown location. In order to figure out where, Vanilla tries working out who they're dealing with, before finally settling on making themselves distinguishable from the copy when in-person (fun fact for the summary people: what they settled on was 'way too much body spray'). This doesn't solve their problem though, and so they finally decide to try and make contact with Colress and this mystery person via Cheri's pager.

On the other side of things, we learn that this person's name is Vision, that she seems to have some sort of high title... and that she intends to be the one to respond to Vanilla's message, it seems. But what will come of that...?

House of Leaves, Chapter 9; P. 120-145

So the characters knocked a hole in my book.¹ We'll call this part the Descent, even though it happened after the literal descent down the stairs.

I... think? It's impossible to tell what the hell is going on. The side bars and this insert box are growing into ever-longer lists of nonsense. I feel very sure that people far more patient than I have gone through them and added their significance to their literary critique. I, however, choose to regard them as winding passages in a labyrinth. Useless information trying to drag me away from the goal ahead by promising something this book constantly teases you with. Understanding.

And these side-passages just keep getting worse, too. They're at all angles and intersect what little "normal text" there is left. I feel like I'm looking for Holloway in here. Hell if I know why at this point, maybe it's more accurate to say I'm looking for Jed and Wax. They haven't shot anyone in a paroxysm of panic.²

These parts with Hallway³ feel like an ongoing commentary on machismo. While Will has his eyes on him as the biggest threat in the room, it's actually Wax who kisses Karen in secret. In this same vein, Hallway is the first one to let his fears and insecurities overwhelm him. Turning it into mindless violence against his own... friends? Not friends, I feel like if they were then this wouldn't have happened and that's kind of the point.

I can imagine what this means for him. It seems that things in the house waste away when they're out of sight, out of mind.⁴ You think that there's some Minotaur running around wrecking it, but it might just be the pain of forgetting. Like words wearing away on a page. Of course... there might still be a Minotaur, I don't know for certain, but the thought of being forgotten in the endless cold is the more frightening of the two.

Slight fear of the cold here, it took a lot of work to get to a point I could deal with it normally again. Once again the house has targeted my old fears, digging them up and putting them in front of me in just the most horrific sorts of ways. But the quiet kind. It's just passages and walls and the dark. The liminal horror on display is incredible, in both concept and execution. The insane formatting only further immerses me in being lost as fuck down here.

Do I even want to talk about Johnny's interlude? It certainly adds to the visual noise of the house but I couldn't focus on it at all. Like his words are just another one of those trick paths that's keeping me from going forward. Yet it's also the last "solid ground" for the remainder of this part of the live read. Everything after begins to devolve into random asides and footnotes. there are passages about Magellan and Hudson and photograph manipulation and... It's just a wall of vaguely thematic absurdity. Even Johnny gets in on it with TNT.⁵ Even as the hole int he wall describing how un-house-like the house is fades into darkness. The only thing that it's definitely not lacking.

We'll continue our exploration, or escape, next time. I'm sorry for breaking it down to this degree but I find that I have a lot to say in these intervals.

I would storm off too if I had started a superior QB (Herb)bert over my opponents (Kirk) Cousins who produced a terrible game & still lose to that team much like Jermaine lost to Oliver in such a close bout. If Kirk just could get a few more points Monday night sigh. Literally,is he could have done one deep pass or TD instead of the atrocious outing he had, he could have had just enough to beat Oliver. Very Fustrating.

Luckily, through other shenanigans, Jermaine was able to move up in ranks into 4th place as Oliver takes the number 1 spot as defending championship 🏆.

While this commentary had nothing to do with the fantasy matchup directly, the "mashup" can refer to the fact he had put in Carson Wentz and Pat Freiermuth as his starters were out (Dak & Kittle). His plan worked as he managed to gain a victory due in part to a strong showing by both. As random as that pairing was, much like a turducken, any given Sunday players can do well or not for you.

With the win, Matt is in 7th but at least with a win. Carla drops to 0-2 but is thankfully not in last place.

I don't *technically* have a post w/ the timeline, so I'm using your ask as an opportunity to make one!

I'm going to put this under a cut, bc currently I have actually no idea what's going on with the timeline for s5, and as things air, I'll update this continually, and it can be used as the most updated resource whenever you open it!

I could not resist adding commentary sometimes, sorry 😅

*disclaimer - I understand the crossover is supposed to line up w LS’s timeline or whatever but it absolutely does not work for our timeline. So this is purely OG’s timeline, bc I don’t watch LS, and also our timeline is a lot more logical.*

Just a note - anything that’s currently speculation is gonna be in blue. As we get confirmation of things, I’ll add in confirmed info and put things in black, and anything that’s wrong will be removed/edited.

Also, episodes tend to happen over several days’ time, so if you’re looking for an EXACT date for a little scene in an ep, I mostly don’t have it for you, but you should put it within the week I’ve given, relative to where it went in the ep. (Eg a call later in the ep would be more likely to have happened on Thursday or Friday.)

Also re: s4. COVID does not work as a good timeline indicator for this show, AT ALL. Its sort of like the whole “do they have regular shifts” debate - the writers wrote the stories they wanted to tell, and then fit COVID in around that. Also it got really screwed by them being done filming before it hit, but not having aired any of s3B yet. And then both bc COVID can’t be used to figure out time, and also bc it wasn’t aired normally, it is a lot more nebulous timeline-wise, I did my best though 😂

(Anyone curious, personally, I’d put his birthday somewhere in Jan-early March, late May-early Sept, purely bc I refuse to think at this point that Christopher’s birthday has happened while the show has been airing and Eddie hasn’t mentioned it. Is there anything you want to change or add if there is a tv show of gone? Or are any things you really want to happen and feel that they need to be in the show?

ooh, i've got a bunch of potential changes i think would be good to implement! here we go:

include at least one scene in the pilot filling out the kids' family lives. this will give context to how they all act in the fayz. obviously we need sam and his family situation with connie and connie's abusive boyfriend, but let's also give some detail on astrid and little pete's parents and how that dynamic plays out. just a little bit of history would be nice before we get into the fayz proper.

set up & follow through on astrid's subplot. this is referring to the reveal in fear that astrid, to a point, was manipulating sam in order to secure protection for herself and little pete. this is a huge revelation for the audience, but presented in a kind of weirdly blasé way that seems a lot like a retcon. i actually really like this idea, though, so i'd include that in the show from the beginning. this would give astrid her own little subplot instead of her solely being a supporting character for sam. maybe this would include indulging his crush on her, which would be apt meta commentary on how quickly they get together in the books and their lack of chemistry sorry. how would this impact sam and astrid's relationship when this is revealed to sam? i don't know, that's for the screenwriters to decide....

make it definitive: is caine redeemable or not? this is more of a critique of the infamous cementing in the first book, but this is an issue that the writers need to get out of the way sooner than later. if caine is redeemable, then maybe the cement incident should be changed to something less evil, i dunno. it's kind of a hard juggling act to have caine be essentially awful but not too awful, but still.

establish little pete and astrid's love for each other. i'd love it if little pete's love for astrid influenced his use of his powers in some way, whether it's saving her from danger (as in canon) or something else. astrid, though she resents having to be his sole caretaker, still loves her brother and i'd want that to be clearly established, too.

more political intrigue! i honestly want more political stuff in general. the supernatural conflicts i could take or leave, but if you're gonna do a series about kids creating a society free of adults, i'd expect more conflict relating to that. after the human crew gets killed off/disappears (what happened to lisa?), why don't we get any fallout relating to the mutant vs. normal conflict? surely there are some other kids who realize the flimsiness of sam being leader just because he drove a school bus one time? or at least there are some who have issues with sam's leadership in general aside from the overtly evil human crew? what about the kids who don't like their jobs and/or want more compensation for them? what about people who have problems with albert and his way of running the economy? what about the fayz's military and the potential misuse of guns by its soldiers? idk, i just want a lot more than what political stuff we got in the books, which is pretty glossed over. i think it could give sam and astrid a chance to flex their individual ideas about how the fayz government should be run.

explore astrid's loss of faith. this speaks for itself, but i also want the way sam and astrid resolve their conflict in fear to change, too. surely there's a better way to have them reconcile without astrid compromising herself sexually!!

give astrid and orc more scenes together! okay this is more of a self-indulgent thing, BUT in my defense, i also think laying the groundwork for their relationship would greatly benefit orc's arc (when/if it occurs in the tv show, which it should). i love the idea of them getting a few tiny exchanges in the first few episodes just to establish their history together.

I don't think I'll be able to make this as long as I should because I'm tired and I might have dom dropped a little after not knowing how you were doing for so long (which is not your fault, I'm doing OK, just had to spend a little time calming down and thinking very hard that you'd be alright). First things first, I'm very glad you're alright 💕 Got real rambly down there before I could address it, but yes, there's no problem in posting both of them, I feel a little ashamed because I probably left out a ton of stuff I wanted to say, but I'm glad they've helped ground you and illustrate what you wanted to say.

Second, I don't think you've ever not let me know properly how you're doing during a scene, I know I sometimes slip up, but you are usually good at communicating how deep down under you are. Nevertheless, if having a different system to help you out feel a bit safer, that would be completely alright, sweetheart, I'd keep trying my best to just make you feel safe and above all that you are having a good time. None of your triggers are stupid, you are not dumb or too sensitive for reacting to something others may not, that's normal and you should never feel bad about it (which I know it's very difficult depending on the thing, but hey, I know you always try).

Again, I'll try to be more careful in the future, I can't promise that I won't fuck up because text doesn't make this easier, but I promise I'll try very hard. I was secretly hoping you would reblog that plane post because you Know Things (tm) about planes and I was looking forward to reading your commentary :D so thanks! do you have more plane facts to share off the top of your head? (also I'm distracting writing sorry)

Okay, so. AS YOU KNOW I know way more than I probably should about plane crashes 'cause they fascinate me. I had a number of Thoughts when I read this question but the one that called to me the most was A Story.

So this is a Boeing 737-300, specifically registration N75356. It had its first flight in January of 1988, and was delivered to TACA Airlines in May of 1988. Now, those dates are kinda important to this story, because the incident here takes place on May 24th, 1988. This was a state of the art jet (the 300 had been on the market for less than 4 years), with brand new livery (paint), and had been in operation with the airline for two weeks.

That's just a little funny to me, okay. I promise this isn't gallows humor.

So. May 24, 1988. TACA Flight 110 is scheduled to fly from Goldson International Airport (Belize City, Belize) to New Orleans International Airport. The captain of the flight is this guy:

Capt. Carlos Dardano, age 29 at the time. This dude... this dude was an extremely experienced pilot, with both planes and gliders, who came from a family of pilots. I've seen interviews with him and he seems like a cool dude.

Fun fact: early in his career, he flew into El Salvador, which was embroiled in a civil war at the time. He ended up caught in a shootout, took a bullet to the face but still flew his passengers to safety. He ended up losing an eye, but was still able to fly (obviously) so he just kept doing what he was doing.

SO. Flight 110 is a boringly normal flight all the way from Belize until just before they start their descent into New Orleans. There's thunderstorms, with hail, and lightning, and a whole lot of Not Good stuff to fly into, so the pilots use their onboard radar to chart a course through the storm.

Now, on the radar, it shows storm activity as green (not so bad), yellow (ehhh), and red areas (very bad). The pilots mostly saw yellow areas, with some red. They steered the jet between some of the red areas, thinking that would be okay.

Buuuut. Unfortunately that was Not To Be. Pretty soon the plane is getting absolutely hammered by rain, turbulence, and hail. The pilots have everything under control for a while (and even joke about the hail scratching the new paint. It's funny, I swear.)

Then, as the plane descended through 16,500 feet, both engines flamed out.

So there they are. Middle of an intense thunderstorm. Descending. Complete loss of thrust.

45 people on board.

Capt. Dardano and the rest of the crew immediately snap into action, following their checklists to try to restart the engines. After several attempts through the reignition procedure, they do it! Both engines are able to restart.

...but they are producing no thrust.

They try advancing the throttle to add more power/thrust. The engines start to overheat. They still have no thrust. They're still descending.

So Capt. Dardano makes the kind of decision you really don't want to have to make: he completely shutdown both engines, to avoid them catching fire. And then the crew made a Mayday call.

The crew realizes they can't make it to New Orleans; they don't have the altitude to make it that far. ATC directs them to another airport that's much closer, but they realize they won't be able to make it there either. That leaves the crew one option: a water ditching.

I should mention here that this is waaaay before the Miracle on the Hudson. Water landings are not a thing. Commercial pilots are not trained for them. There's no simulator for ditching on water. And remember, Capt. Dardano has only one eye, so this will be even harder.

Still, this is his option, and he's going to do his damnedest to land that plane and get everyone onboard out alive.

They descend through the storm clouds and can finally get a good look at the ground. They spot a canal, agree that is their best option, and then Capt. Dardano steers the plane to line up with this canal.

And then.

The first officer spots a levee beside the canal.

Split second decision, the pilots are like yes. There. That is where we will try to land.

Capt. Dardano pulls some glider moves with a 32+ton airliner like it's any other Sunday. He slips the plane over to line up with the levee. The landing gear touches down. They keep the plane level and straight. They slow down normally, and the 737 comes to a complete stop on a grass levee, completely intact.

They evacuate in an orderly fashion. One person, who had recently had surgery, was taken away with minor injuries. No one else is hurt.

Capt. Dardano has made the first deadstick (no engine power) landing of a 737 outside of an airport. Ever. 

And then they find out that they landed on NASA property? Which... is not really relevant to the story but I feel like on top of all the craziness in this story just adds to the absolute LEGEND that is TACA Flight 110.

So anyway.

The NTSB does some preliminary investigation into the incident on site, but because of the sheer weight of the aircraft, they realize it's going to sink into the mud if they don't get it out of there soon. Their main option would be to break it up and move it somewhere else, right?

But like... it's a perfectly good, brand new plane, isn't it? One of the engines is pretty badly damaged, but the other is in good shape. They do an engine swap on site, and within days a test pilot is able to fly it out of there to an airport.

They just... flew it out. Crash, what crash?

That photo I shared at the top? That's from 1989. They repaired the plane and it stayed in service until 2016 with no other problems. The NTSB later found that the initial dual-engine flameout was because the engines ingested so much precipitation that the engines just could not spin anymore. The engines were redesigned and this sort of thing never happened again.

I'm not being ungrateful and I'm trying not to be impatient, I'm sure they'll release the schedule when they can and they're probably still waiting for guests to finalise their weekend schedules. It's just being in this emotional limbo, when I want to feel excited (and feel like I *ought* to be excited, especially as I won't be able to attend anything in-person even when it is safe again) but don't want to in case I'm disappointed and have to miss most or all of the things I most want to see. I daren't think of questions to submit in case one gets asked (unlikely, I know, but still) and I won't be there to hear the answer.

[Edit: I also intended to mention, I can't be the only one needing to plan their weekend.]

That said, I purchased my ticket right at the outset not knowing what or how much I would be able to see - even if I see just one event, at that price and with some going to such a good cause, it will still be good value. I even bought the T-shirt, with this being my first and possibly only con. I have an idea for cosplay (the head and hair, anyway) to get into the spirit of it. I just needed to ... not even vent, just put the feelings into words.

And I really can't complain. Holly Hop is a huge bonus, and we've been treated to the Quarantine Commentaries, and last night's Brittas Empire 30th Anniversary Reunion was brilliant fun (shame about the technical hitches, but such is life - it sort of adds to the charm, in a way, that the people on the other end have to contend with normal problems just like us). I've been able to watch actual theatre, and I will probably get to attend a comedy show, and if I'd been well enough I could have joined in with various choral endeavours. So yeah, I'm not feeling sorry for myself at all, literally just needed to air the uncomfortable feelings 🙂
