My personal highlights of the Starkid Broadway Whodunit 4/10/20

Strap in this could be long...

Lauren’s character is pregnant and she has the biggest most fake looking bump I’ve ever seen

Joey is wearing a baby carrier even though the baby isn’t due for another MONTH

James is amazing and so convincingly nervous as has character, I think he was the only one who didn’t break the whole time

Jaime is playing herself and controlling her puppet (you know, the sweet one Nick made for her wedding) but the puppet keeps saying wildly inappropriate things - think Trekkie Monster from Avenue Q

Jaime’s character later murders the puppet, cause why not

Meredith looks BEAUFITUL and her character wants to be an actress so every time she’s asked a question she turns it into a really long monologue about her upcoming one woman show

Meredith’s character (who was called Denise, love it): “I taped my breasts together with duct tape earlier and I’m worried my nipples will fall off” *drinks wine* *Andrew breaks*

Joey and Lauren used their tgwdlm newsreader voices the whole time, and Lauren was just hanging off Joey’s shoulders

Walker was playing a like 20 year old and just kept saying Dope, Dope about everything

Corey’s character was obsessed with Lauren’s (and turns out was the father) and every time he appeared Lauren moved rooms and ditched him with an UGH

Joe’s character also had a TikTok and Joe did not sound sure than he knew what TikTok was

Everyone left Joe alone in the room and he looked so offended

Lauren disappeared to ‘go pee because of the baby’ about 6000 times

Jamie Burns’ wig was even more wild than Chorn

Brian: “Can sesame street go away please” “Vicki BEAT IT”

Joe: “YEAH I am a teenager, have you SEEN my TikTok???”

Everyone had their character’s names at the bottom of their screen but there was a glitch so every time they moved rooms Lauren and Joey’s just said laurenlopez

Corey’s character Danny appeared in a ‘disguise’ which was just some sunglasses he was also wearing earlier, everyone sees through it apart from Brian

Jamie’s character was an infomercial star and came up with a product called the Butt Clamp which would stop you needing to use the toilet - everyone else kept calling it a butt plug and Jamie got increasingly angry the more this happened

Corey to Joe: “ThEy’Re GoiNG tO caNCeL YoU oN tHE inTeRNeT”

Joe’s character gets shot and dies, Lauren “He died of old age?!!!”, Brian “He looks like he has a butt clamp in” *everyone accuses Vicky of murder by butt clamp*

Andrew “I’m gonna call a private investigator”, Brian “Why don’t you call 911?”, Andrew “No!”

Andrew on the phone “please come figure out what happened”, Joey “finger who?!” *Lauren and Mere break*

Lauren “Ya butt clamp’s defective Vicky” “Yeah cause your not meant to use it on your vagina!” *Lauren, Brian and Robert all hide off camera they’re laughing so much*

The Investigator arrives aka Joe with a drawn on moustache, Jaime immediately “Is that sharpie on your face?”

WHAT THE FUCK DID THAT PUPPET JUST SAY?!!

Joe says some lines as the investigator so everyone can keep up with the plot, Brian “Are you reading this off of something?” “NO! what kind of question is this?!” “well your talking very robotically” “Yeah does feel like it was written” “Are you done?”

Joe “I’m going to introduce myself now, my name is...investigator ..moo-stache” everyone breaks, Joe can’t get through the line

Jaime “Are you sure sure your name isn’t investigator Sharpay?” *Andrew is so gone he gives up trying to hide his laughing, Lauren and Meredith fall out of frame*

Brian makes a suggestion, Joe “are you the investigator here or am I? SHUT UP”

Joe gets some words wrong and corrects himself, Lauren “See this makes be think you’re reading it off somewhere” “Yeah stick to the script”

Jamie Burns “Put a but clamp on your mouth and shut the hell up Mr Moustache” Joe in an incredulous voice “What did you just say to me? put an ass clamp on my mouth?!” “A BUTT CLAMP” *more people have broken than are still in character* Joe “I’ll have to come back to that one”

Lauren “Can you at least make eye contact when you’re talking to us, you’re looking at your shoes”, Brian “Listen, put whatever you’re reading more up by your camera and then It’ll look more like you’re not reading it” *everyone breaks, Andrew, Joey, Lo, Mere, James are all on the floor* Joe “I am remembering it, I have to look at my shoes to remember!”

*everyone heckles Joe, looks like he’s about to explode/have a breakdown*

Joe is now reading it higher and desperately trying to keep looking at the camera

Jamie “You’re a hack... I could figure out this whole investigation with my eyes closed and my butt clamped” *mass breaking*

Andrew announces that all the butt clamps in the world have been sold in an attempt to end this joke. It does not work.

*Inspector asks who people thing the murderer is* Meredith “Well let me look at... my thoughts that I’ve been writing down”

Joe uses the sharpie he drew his moustache on with to pretend to take notes

Andrew’s character “Can I tell you the truth”, Joe “You actually are compelled by law to to tell me the truth yes”

Brian to Joe “We have a lot in common actually, I mean...I went to the Apocalyptour too” (The poster is behind Joe on the wall) Joe, desperately trying not to break “my daughter dragged me”

“He’s not the murderer, he’s just stalking the fuckin butt plug lady”

Joe “I’ve just... got to check the notes on my shoes”

Joey desperately wants to name the baby after the murdered puppet

Lauren accuses Mere’s character of being pregnant, Meredith “Am I PREGNANT?! Is that why my breasts look so good?!”

Brian “Is that like an air drop? DID YOU AIR DROP A BABY IN HER?!” *Andrew corpses*

Corey tries another disguise, but he’s just wearing a baseball cap backwards

Turns out Joey’s character had been fucking the puppet “The thing is it’s got a big hole in its ass” *Lauren and Joey both start laughing*

Jaime “I’ve only killed one non human thing today” Joe “You killed a puppet made out of menstrual blood”

Lauren can’t remember her character’s surname and she and Joe break

*Brian tries to show something on an ipad* “I don’t know if you can see that” Joe “Yes, yes, the camera is auto adjusting the white balance I can see it perfectly” *Lauren hides laughing behind her hands*

There’s a TWIST that Robert isn’t French and called Luis (loo-E), he’s actually called Lewis but everyone had been called him Lewis all night anyway so it didn’t really work but was funny and Meredith felt so bad about it

Joe says the same thing twice and everyone accuses him of reading again “I’M THINKING, I HAVE TO LOOK AT MY SHOE WHEN I THINK AND REMEBER”

There’s a beautifully photoshopped ‘evidence picture’ of Joey and the puppet

Meredith is convinced Brian is the murderer, decides to strangle him

The proof that Brian isn’t the murderer is that in a video he doesn’t know how to use a gun

Robert accuses Lauren’s baby of being the murderer, Joey and Lauren are busy kissing Diane

Joe’s explaining the final plot points and pauses to find the next bit of paper to read “Sorry, one sec, I’m REMEMBERING” *everyone breaks* “LOOK AT YOUR SHOE!”

FINAL PLOT TWIST turns out Joe’s investigator was really the long lost triplet Gaston to the murdered Ashton and Sebastian THE END

Joe “You might think that because I was a triplet this moustache is fake, BUT IT’S NOT, IT’S REAL”

They all take their wigs off, Joe out of character sums it up: “I truly did not know what was going on”

Where does Bendy in Nightmare Run fit into the Bendy Universe?

Let me ask you this: does anyone else find it odd that we don’t see any of the content from Bendy in Nightmare Run within the Crack-Up Comics? Like the game has four great bosses, three standard enemies, and a bunch of costumes, and not ONCE do they make another appearance (save for one Easter egg of Chester in BATIM’s Chapter 5). We got parallels to our Chapters 3 and 4 enemies with Cameraman/Projectionist, Miss Twisted/Twisted Alice, and Brute/Brute Boris, but like, absolutely nothing from the game that arguably has more toons in it than the source material it’s based on. I know not a lot of people think about Nightmare Run anymore (hell, it’s only on my radar because I still log in everyday for the soup), but I feel like there should’ve at least been a nod to it there.

And that got me thinking: Souper Boris deals with radioactive bacon soup, right? And it’s teased at the end that Alice gets some too, right? Humor me here: is it possible that Canoodle is also a result of that radioactive soup? I mean this is a cartoon world, I don’t think it’d be much of a stretch to say that “radioactive” could serve as an explanation for a soup can becoming sentient, nor growing to a massive height. I can already picture the story, he was the can that wasn’t bought, got stuck in the back and never saw the light of day, so he had time to be brought to life, as opposed to other produce that was opened too quickly for that to happen. Maybe he passed his expiration date, got thrown away, ended up at the dump and made it his home. Who’s to say?

Though then again, is Canoodle’s stage a junkyard, or a graveyard? And how does that change things?

I was looking around for Canoodle’s beef with Bendy (it’s that Bendy trespassed on his property and didn’t leave), and I stumbled upon this from the promotional material for the game. I thought Canoodle’s stage was a junkyard this whole time, you’re telling me it’s a graveyard? Well hang on a moment. The game was released in August of 2018, and both of these tweets are from September of 2018. All the other posts with the bosses for the initial marketing make sense within the context of their stage, but Canoodle’s is inconsistent. Everywhere else, he’s listed as living in a junkyard. So why then, is it called a graveyard here?

So I loaded up the game real quick and played through the first act. Still looks like a junkyard to me. But then THIS happened.

My phone is a bit slow (as is my reaction time) so I couldn’t get a clear screenshot, but the other side of this barrel has a radioactive waste symbol on it. You see where I’m going with this? I predict Canoodle has some kind of link with the content we saw in the Souper Boris comic, it makes too much sense for it to be the same radioactive soup. The promotional material referring to this space as a graveyard could be insight into how Canoodle feels about it. I mean if you were a piece of trash that got thrown away, wouldn’t you feel like the scrapyard was your final resting place? Much like the studio is hell itself for its inhabitants, Canoodle’s “home” is here.

But that leads to the question that I’ve had about Nightmare Run for a while: where in the timeline does it fall? And that’s a really difficult question to answer, because there’s two timelines we need to talk about: the real world of JDS, and the fictional world of the cartoons and comics. And in truth, I don’t have a good answer for it. I think the logical place for it to be is somewhere after the Souper Boris comic, meaning if it’s part of a story told in some kind of Bendy media, it’s gotta be after or alongside the period of 1936-1940.

The thing is, we don’t really know what Nightmare Run IS within this universe, and that’s the bigger question to answer. Sure, here and now in our reality, it’s a mobile game, just as Bendy and the Ink Machine and Boris and the Dark Survival are games, but mobile games didn’t exist back then. There’s also that weird callback to Joey’s whole shtick about “there’s something I need to show you” when you first boot up the game. What is this trying to tell us? What IS Nightmare Run? For us it’s a game, but what is it to the studio employees? What is it to the cartoons? What is it to Joey? There are lots of things we could make of this, but my mind goes to a few places. We could say that it’s just a game that has no bearing on the story. We could say that Joey was ahead of his time, or that maybe Nathan did some development with the JDS property that permeated the modern era. We could say that this was a series of shorts or cartoons where Bendy and friends are having weird dreams.

Or we could turn to what The Illusion of Living tells us about Bendyland and Sillyvision. I haven’t given you all my thoughts on the book yet (I really should, because damn did it rock), but one thing I found fascinating was the look into Bendyland and Joey’s conversations with Bertrum Piedmont. We learn what Joey’s plans were for the park, that each section was meant to represent aspects of each of his core characters. I can absolutely see Nightmare Run fitting in as an attraction for Dark World, Bendy’s area of the park. Think of it like Disney’s animatronic dark rides, like Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, or one of the things I miss, Disney Quest. If you’re not familiar with Disney Quest, it was a five floor arcade that lived within Disney Springs (then called Downtown Disney). It’s since been replaced by an ESPN attraction, but when it was still there, it had all kinds of stuff. Early forms of VR (that were nauseating to play with those heavy helmets), lots of old arcade machines, and newer technology that blended virtual and physical gameplay together, like the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction that had you shooting cannonballs at a virtual screen (or Toy Story Midway Mania, if you want a more common comparison).

But this was the 40s, technology for this kind of thing wouldn’t exist, right? And that’s where I turn to Sillyvision, Joey’s special process of editing the inks on the animation cells. Combine that with the advanced technology of harnessing living ink’s properties that Gent had going on, and you have yourself some plausible ways to create an attraction where guests can help Bendy (or be in his shoes) to run from some not-so-friendly faces. It doesn’t sound too far fetched for this universe, and given this man was working on “living cartoons” for the purpose of folks being able to meet them in the park, I wouldn’t put it past him to try this too. It still leaves some questions as to what content Canoodle and friends came from within the universe (were they in a cartoon or comic, or were they made specifically for an attraction?), but one thing is for sure: there’s possibilities. Besides that, we still never got an explanation as to what that hand is in the game.

If you tap the hand on the top of the screen there, it opens and closes, but we still have no idea what it does or who it belongs to. It’s 2021, and we still haven’t cracked it! It could be Bendy’s or Boris’ hand (not Alice though, doesn’t have a circle in the palm), or it could be someone else’s. I don’t know. All I know is that I’m probably thinking too hard about this. X’’’D And I’m okay with that. I’d like to revisit Nightmare Run again, I have some thoughts about our enemy characters (Krawl, Stickle, and Gwen), but that’ll be for later. ATLA fic recs pt 3!

part 1 part 2 (again, consider this a re-rec of everything I recced in those parts, those were all brilliant fics! I have really good taste y’all)

This is for Spotlight Saturday (which I didn’t even know was a thing oh my goodness that’s so cool) and also bc I passed two milestones since making the last one of these! thank you! I don’t know why you’re here but I’m so glad you are! <3 <3 <3 <3 also, a gentle reminder that I love so, so many more fics than appear on these lists, and there are even more fics that I’m simply not exposed to. if you want to send me your work or the work of people you really like, please do so! 1. Hooked by @listless-brainrot I know List writes fic specifically to cause me pain but I cannot tell you how much serotonin I got when I found out during the Great Jetru Summer Storm of 2020 that somebody had a) already made content and b) that content was literally incredible. Like not only does List have impeccable taste and an impressive amount of patience he’s also a really good writer??? To be perfectly honest I sometimes turn my brain off a little when I read fic, but List makes me sit up and pay attention to his writing and the way he’s writing. I think the framing device here with Haru telling this story to the gaang at the Western Air Temple is so interesting (and it makes me so scared list dude please tell me that doesn’t mean what I think it means you can’t-) and Jet and Haru’s burgeoning friendship/relationship? has been handled with such care and with such depth. I am absolutely obsessed with how he characterizes Haru in particular. Haru, being such a minor character, normally doesn’t get any kind of characterization, but List really said not only is Haru going to be the pov character of this fic, I am going to create an environment that gives him so much nuance. We really have no choice to stan.

2. and the stars, they too, tell of spring by @katarahairloopies when I first read this fic I went absolutely feral, as I am wont to do with Kit’s fics and with yueki content in general. It’s just so personal. And like not in the queer eye meme way (although,,,,yes) but to me it’s very clear that the author has spent time in the situation they’re describing, in one way or another, and took a lot of care in rendering that situation to the absolute fullest of their ability. It’s one of those fics that has just stayed with me even though I read it a while ago, like I can still picture the situation, the way they described it, the way I felt reading it. Simply iconic. Simply iconic. I wish every atla fic writer would have the kind of care and patience with Yue and Suki’s characters in their long af fics that Kit does in a really short and pointed piece of work.

3. i like my girls just like i like my honey by @lazypigeon I am....obsessed with this???? I love it??? It is totally gorgeous. I’m a sucker for ship fics that also explore friendships and the whole friendship between Sokka and Yue was just so queer and so utterly perfect. The jokes about their neighbors thinking they were married...the background zukka...the dresses....I loved it all so much. It really brought a smile to my face to read some fluff about two friends going outside to hang out with one another, like can you imagine??? wild. And then we meet Suki who is a farmer at the farmer’s market that Sokka and Yue go to and y’all pls tell me why farmer’s market aus aren’t a bigger thing because the idea of Suki being a farmer and asking Yue to go sample strawberries with her was just???? so cute????? like go off that’s absolutely iconic again we have no choice but to stan! And Sokka was absolutely hilarious when he was trying to wingman for Yue it was so funny and cute. also bonus for the title it was simply *chef’s kiss*

4. the anchor by @firelordemai one of my fave Maiko fics to date. Both POVs were on point but there was just something extra about that Mai POV it was gripping. I could not tear my eyes away from the screen reading this. I love love loved so much how the rock stood for their love for one another and how Zuko kept it, the whole way through, just utter and complete perfection I’m getting emotional just thinking about it oh my goodness. Legit it’s been a minute since I read the fic I’m just sitting here thinking about the use of language and how their relationship progressed and I am crying!!! I am crying!!! just. the talent. the talent! your fave could never! I am just obsessed with how the author chronicled them growing up and the challenges they faced as teenagers and the way they were driven apart and came back together again and my heart was on the floor in pieces when Zuko left it was just. oh my goodness. read this.

5. time for the moon night by @kahtara ok storytime: when that ask game where you tell the author your favorite fic of theirs went around I hit up Joey and said that it was between laughter lines (which I have recced before peep part 2) and icarus, point to the sun and that I was planning on reading time for moon night but I just didn’t know if I had the emotional strength to do it and they said it’s less sad than laughter lines so I was like all right chill I’ll read it and NO, NO IT WAS NOT LESS SAD THAN LAUGHTER LINES, IT WAS, PERHAPS, MORE SAD THAN LAUGHTER LINES. in all seriousness, time for the moon night is my new favorite fic of theirs. the way they write yukka in general is just so full of nuance and emotion, they really flesh out both Sokka and Yue’s characters so well and in such a careful and precise manner and I really love it. The way time is bent throughout this whole fic is just so amazing. this kind of gorgeous, thoughtful writing that isn’t shy to really get at the depths is the reason I love fanfiction. this is why I care! ao3 is FREE. and yet you can get writing of that quality and substance?????? i’m floored honestly.

6. if you ran away (come back home) by @shrinkthisviolet I want to spotlight one line in particular. “She wondered how long it would take him to notice the weak spot on the dummy’s left side.” That is so Mai. That is so Mai. The author did such a wonderful job capturing Mai’s situation and her perspective on it, but that line prepared me for an absolutely wonderful character study of Mai and look into her situation before and after the Agni Kai. I’m honestly so floored at how the author was able to portray such an intimate character study that so in character and so well thought out. Mai stans, come get y’alls juice. This one is also really sad and I cried a little (me crying at ATLA fanfiction is exactly as common of an occurrence as you think it is.) What was particularly heartbreaking to me was the way that the author showed how, even as a kid, Mai was driven to suppress her feelings and play to her best political interests. She’s just a kid! She’s just a little baby!!!!!!! I’m heartbroken, and I’m at a loss for words, quite frankly. I want Mai to have the whole world. gosh anyway this author is so incredible and I’m so so excited to read more of her work, because this was just stunning and deserves an incredible amount of praise.

Why I think Barchie Needs To Happen.

Well I’m bored so I figured I would pass the time by rambling on about Barchie. So I figured I would explain why I not only think Barchie will happen in season 5 but why it needs to happen. Obviously these are just my own thoughts, feelings and opinions on it, totally fine if anyone disagrees.

One of the biggest reasons why I think Barchie needs to happen is one I’ve made no secret of in my previous posts. I’m bored with the current couples. That’s not to say that Jughead and Betty and Veronica and Archie are necessarily bad couples. It’s just that they’ve become too repetitive. To be honest I don’t feel like those relationships are progressing anymore. They’ve become stagnant. All Betty and Jughead do is investigate crimes and all Archie and Veronica do is get into conflicts with Hiram. It just keeps going round in circles. In the first two seasons their relationships were still progressing and growing but in my opinion the relationships haven’t really developed any further in season 3 and 4. Shaking up the couples would change that.

Another problem that I think occurred from keeping the same couples for so long was with character interaction. It seemed like Riverdale had gotten into this rut where only the same set of characters would interact with each other. For example most of Betty’s scenes were with Jughead. Most of Archie’s scenes were with Veronica, pretty much all of Toni’s scenes were with Cheryl. It became very rare to see these characters interacting with anyboby else. Which again, this becomes boring and monotonous. But if you look at season 4 with the plot of Jughead’s fake death and the Barchie plotline we immediately started to see other characters interact with each other. We saw Veronica with Cheryl, Jughead with Charles, Ethel and the Stonies. We also saw Betty interacting with Donna. Toni, Reggie, Kevin and Fangs all had a storyline together, admittedly a terrible one but it was still a group of different characters interacting, the thing I loved about the last episode was it was a large group of characters together and that was fun to see. By breaking up the core four you open it up for other interactions and the possibilties are really interesting. It was one of the best parts of the blackhood storyline. We got to see Betty and Archie investigating a mystery instead. We got to see Jughead more involved in the Serpents and hanging out with Toni. The same again when Archie left. We started to see Veronica have storylines with other people like Reggie and the Pretty Poisons. Even getting mixed up with Gladys Jones. It was something different and that made it exciting and interesting. Season 5 is going to be introducing some new characters and this is one of the things I’m most excited for because we’ll be seeing something new and new interactions between characters. There are so many possibilties for new conflicts, new friendships and new love interests. Obviously I don’t think B*ghead and V*rchie are the sole reason why there was so little interaction between all of the characters but I do think it was a huge contributing factor, I feel like the writers just got too comfortable if that makes sense.

Reason number 3 why Barchie needs to happen is because I feel like they need to be properly explored. Because of the way they were set up in the pilot and then the following seeds that were planted over the following seasons if they don’t get properly explored then they will always be a what if, a loose end if you will. I know some people feel like Barchie came out of nowhere but I personally think it was pretty obvious that they were laying down the paving stones for Barchie in pretty much all the seasons barring season 3. I mean the pilot episode established their backstory of childhood crushes, and made it clear that Betty was in love with Archie. The way the rejection happened in my opinion very much left the door ajar for them. In my opinion it wasn’t a straight forward rejection on Archie’s part. I just think he was confused and conflicted and wasn’t ready to start a relationship with Betty at that time. But later in the season it was obvious Archie had some jealous feelings towards B*ghead, Veronica even called him out on it. Then there was the whole ‘A little part of me always thought.’ Jughead’s voiceover about the boy next door looking at the girl next door as if for the first time. The kiss that they didn’t talk about, the fact that they didn’t talk about it very much again left that door ajar for them. They have never ever completely closed the door on Barchie. Whilst all of these were small moments they were all little stepping stones that were being laid down leading up to the events of season 4 where you got this perfect storm of situations, the stress of Jughead’s fake death, the fake dating, the fact that with graduation coming up it felt like everything was changing. All of this contributed to all of Barchie’s oppressed feelings coming back up again. But this time Betty is the one that’s not ready to commit to a serious relationship with Archie. But once again the door hasn’t been completely closed. Again I know some shippers feel like the cheating storyline in season 4 means Barchie has been explored and thats it now. But in my opinion with the unfinished song and the unburned diary Barchie’s story still remains unfinished. In order for them to really be done with the Barchie storyline they need to fully explore them. That means having them in a relationship, going on dates, sleeping together, having fights, making up, being domestic with each other and all that jazz. Otherwise they will still be that what if. I think post timejump season 5 is the perfect time to explore them. Enough time would have passed for the hurt from their breakups and the betrayal from the cheating to have healed somewhat. Both Jughead and Veronica are going to be in other seemingly serious relationships. Veronica will be married and Jughead has a live in girlfriend. With them in other relationships it would make sense for Archie and Betty to feel more comfortable starting a relationship then right after they all break up. Also they are older and more mature so they will be able to work through those emotions better.

Why I think they should be endgame.

Ok so I’ve put this in a separate section because its slightly different from them being explored. I 100% think they will be explored but whether they will be endgame is another question. I know there’s alot of talk about Barchie having a relatively short lived relationship and then the original couples coming back together. Most are comparing it to Spaleb from PLL but here’s the thing the two situations are completely different for one very good reason. Spaleb were not explored at all before that timejump so they really did come out of nowhere. However as I’ll talk about more later Barchie has already had romantic moments a set up before now, basically Spaleb had no foundation Barchie does. I personally think its too early to tell what will happen. There is still a possibilty that Barchie will end up together in the end.

The first reason why I think they should be endgame is because I am a Barchie shipper who is obsessed with all things Barchie so naturally I want my ship to be endgame and I think I deserve to have my ship become endgame for a change otherwise I’m going to think I’m bad at this whole shipping thing. Basically I’m biased but I am aware of this and have no shame in it, like that’s sort of part of shipping everyone has their favourites and they want their favourites to be endgame.

All jokes aside though one of the most common arguments I’ve seen against Barchie becoming endgame is that they are the childhood to lovers troupe and that troupe is overused so it would be too predictable. However this is actually the reason why I think they should be endgame because whilst I agree that the troupe is popular in tv shows from what I’ve seen it’s actually kind of rare for those couples to actually become endgame. I mean maybe I’m watching the wrong tv shows but some of the couples off the top of my head, Joey and Dawson from Dawson’s Peak not endgame, Willow and Xander from Buffy not endgame, Vanessa and Dan from Gossip Girl not endgame, might be wrong about this one but I think Hanna and her boyfriend Sean were childhood friends but not endgame, the only couple I can think of off the top of my head who were endgame were Navid and Adriana from 90210. Like I said it could just be the shows I’m watching but it seems to me that if Barchie do end up together it would actually be more of a twist than if they didn’t. It would be nice to see that troupe actually work out for the couple for a change.

Another argument I see alot is that it wouldn’t be realistic for them to be endgame. Some say it wouldn’t be realistic for them to date their best friend’s ex, some say it wouldn’t be realistic for them to last when they were childhood sweethearts. The thing is realism in tv is a bit of a tricky thing because is some instances I do think its ok to complain about the lack of realism but other times its not. What I mean is that you have to look at realism within the boundaries of the show. And it can be different for each show. For example if a monster jumps out at a character in Supernatural that’s realistic for that show, you know its what the show is about. However if you were watching something like NCIS and a monster jumped out at a character that wouldn’t be realistic at all. An example of this in Riverdale is when thugs break into the Maple club and then Veronica apologises to Penelope. To me this was completely unrealistic for Veronica’s character to be apologising for putting Penelope, the woman who had recently tried to kill Veronica and her friends, in danger. But something like dating your friend’s ex or high school sweethearts getting married and becoming endgame happens all the time in this type of show, its not only realistic in the show but expected. Also if you go the realistic route then none of the couples should end up together. In reality only 2% of marriages are between couples who met and dated in high school and alot of them don’t last. For me within the boundaries of the show I actually think Barchie would be very realisitc. Like I said it is way too early to really know at this moment. But I could see Archie and Betty becoming sources of comfort for each other in the dark world that is Riverdale. They are each other’s constant the person they know will always be there, whether that’s as a friend or a lover. No matter how mad they get at each other they’ll still be there. I said in one of my reviews that I think part of the reason why Betty rejects Archie is because she knows that he’ll still be there even if she tells him she doesn’t want to be with him romantically. She was very worried about losing Jughead but she knew that she wouldn’t lose Archie, because Archie is always there and has been since she was a little girl. However I do think Betty will get a scare while he is in the army and that will be what pushes them towards having a relationship. Bascially I can see them being each other’s rock in the crazy town of Riverdale. In my opinion they have a more mature relationship with mature feelings towards each other and at the moment whilst in high school I don’t think they are ready for those feelings but after the time jump and as adults I think they will work really well together. I think they needed the relationships with Jughead and Veronica, they grew through those relationships, they learnt through those relationships but I think as they get older Archie and Betty will be more suited to each other. I know Betty has had some, hmm how to put it? Spicy scenes with Jughead but to me I feel like Archie would be more into that kind of thing than Jughead. I feel like while Jughead doesn’t mind it he more goes along with it because its what Betty is into whereas I feel like Archie would be more of a match to her if you get my drift, for some reason I’m picturing fireman roleplaying. Also I am still conflicted about the whole erasing asexual Jughead. I did read something a while back, think it was like 2017, where Roberto touched on the subject saying that “I think all of the kids are discovering themselves, and a big part of that is discovering their sexuality, their sexual selves. Rather than have everything fully formed — for instance, we’re not going to start with Archie’s band or Jughead’s asexuality or any of the things that have become canon — those are all stops on the way to the journey until the show catches up to 75 years of Archie history.” Also around the same time Cole said “The entirety of season 1 sets the pace for a character’s narrative arc. Because of the fluidity of sexuality and how oftentimes a person discovers who they are after a series of events – like those told in our origin stories – this is an ongoing conversation.” But bascially I am hopeful that they might still explore Jughead as asexual. As time has gone on that hope has dwindled a bit but its still there. Again I think the time jump is the perfect time to start exploring this. Obviously this doesn’t mean that Jughead can’t fall in love or wasn’t in love with Betty of course he was but I would like to see a Jughead who is asexual because I do think this is something that needs to be more explored in popular media and if they are going the route of Jughead discovers his sexuality over time then this is the perfect moment for them to introduce that. Again this is just my opinion don’t come for me with pitchforks.

Anyway that’s it for now I have a lot more thoughts but no one wants to read a novel on my non sensical ramblings of barchie. Also I’m sorry if this post doesn’t make much sense it’s nearly 2 am where I am and I’m having trouble sleeping so... Anyway what do you guys think do you think they’ll explore Barchie in season 5? Do you think they could be endgame or do you think they will unltimately end up back with the original couples?

My first list! Yay!

Gosh... it's very hard question. I don't like telling kids that one of them is less liked than the other, lol. I'm not able to choose which of the two very liked characters I like more, but I can certainly group them all collectively into several groups with different levels of liking…

The order in these groups will be rather random…

I don't know what determinant should be to assign them... Because there is a difference between the characters I like and the characters that I consider successful making. I think I'll bet on the former, so don't be surprised what categories the characters I'm really proud of end up in.

First category: Beloved characters!

Sammy is definitely here, I don't need to explain why? I omit the fact that his character is quite modeled on myself (and it is quite common that the creator secretly loves to adore himself). But seriously. I love almost every Sammy I meet. This love has no rational explanation, it just exists.

Jack will definitely be in this category too - I love this warm dumpling, his character and the way he combines his pacifist, introverted nature with being Sammy's friend.

I will surprise you, but I'll also assign Bertrum to this category. It's so much fun that when I first saw him in gameplay I had such a "wtf, what is it, what kind of bullshit, why they screwed up the game so much by adding some carousel with a human face". Currently, I cry when I have to go through Chapter 4 and fight him :c He's one of my favorite BATIM characters, along with Sammy - and that's why in the SATIM version he’s simply brilliant! You will love him! Unfortunately, he'll not appear until the second series...

Probably no one will be surprised that Jose Klondike will land my beloved characters - I love the guy, although you don't know why yet. But you'll find out. You'll find out quickly, ‘cause the number of strips with him grows and grows, so I'll be putting them here and there. I am proud of this OC - his history, his determination, his character and approach to life. As if I was in the Workshop as an inky being - I would like to be exactly that character...

Bernard - you don't know him, but he is high in my heart. It’s my way of showing that weaker doesn't always mean weak ;)

After much thought, I decided that Bendy also belongs to this category. I have too much weakness for tragic characters - and Bendy is even a model tragic character (as you will see at the beginning of the second series, when there will be a little more of his backstory).

Gosh, how could I forget to put my favorite three descendants of Sammy and Bendy in this category? This trio is delightful together and separately. I'm so crazy about them lately! Sammy Jr, Henry Jr and Bendy Jr are my favourites :)

Second category: I like these guys very much!

Here will be most of my OC with Cleaner in the lead. It's amazing how the character that arose as an explanation for my laziness/lacks quickly evolved into one of the more liked by me (though still has, and likely will have, relatively little airtime).

Barman must also be here. This guy stole my heart - and it was at the design stage, which is why he got such a unique design (I spent a lot of time on him). I like a stereotypical barman - that's why I just had to throw such a character into SATIM as soon as it turned out that they had a bar there.

All Strikers also land in this category - as the only species of members of the Butcher Gang. Well, how can you not love this cutie? In the SATIM version, most Strikers are sensitive, polite, have a strong sense of justice and, above all, tend to be innocent despite being horrific, murderous abomination. And they are the most sociable of the three.

Movie Club as a whole will also be included in this category, although I don't like all of its members equally. However, as a group character - I like them a lot, my favourite is Sara (probably that's why she got the most time in drawn stripes so far) and Simon (you don't know him yet, that's the one that was dead on the previous strip with this group), also Wallace (first one you met in comic). I like them, although their early appearance upsets my plans for Bendy a bit... but whatever.

Surprisingly - Twisted Alice will also land here. I did not expect that the character I didn't like in game, which I reluctantly drew and who was supposed to be in the comic as little as possible, 'cause I didn't want her in my story - will turn out to be so interesting and quite... cool. I mean, she's a cold, murderous bitch, yes - but I like her backstory, present character and behavior so much (I'm talking about SATIM - in the game she is still an annoying, cold bitch that I hate).

Third category: I just like these.

Here is Brody. Yes. Just here. He is my first OC and I'm really proud of him. Very, very proud. He’s the most polished, I like him - but at the same time (identifying with Sammy) I don’t approve of some of his behaviors and beliefs. Which does not allow me to like him as much as, for example, Barman.

John Dot will land here as well. I like this guy. For someone who was not meant to have any major role, he has grown to become Sammy's religious advisor and is generally quite a funny character.

Fisher, who is my least liked member of the Butcher Gang in the game, ends up in second place here - thanks to the past of one of them (the whole two-piece strip will be about that). The Fishers in SATIM are the "brains" of the Gang. They are the smartest, most cunning and insidious.

Wally Franks - he is and for a long time he will be one of the most enigmatic characters of this comic, but from these narrow premises and traces of its operation it can be seen that he is at least interesting. There will be more about him in the second series, and he will play a more important role at the turn of the third and fourth series. You'll see.

Tom ends up here instead of in the next category only because of his complicated relationship with Sammy, which I would describe in one word as "frenemies". And I really like the idea of communicating with writing board like Wile E. Coyote.

I have a problem with Elena. When I came up with her, she seemed like a great character to me, with the passage of time (and the creation of other OCs) she began to seem a bit... dull. I think I'll have to think about her a bit and maybe change her - maybe not. She doesn't appear until the last series, so I have a lot of time. But I still like the way she speaks to people and her strange relationship with Sammy (she's sort of like his apprentice, only the object of fanaticism has a different one).

Fourth category: Not liked, but not disliked.

Sorry, Henry. In my opinion, Henry is a well-written character, his nature fits so much to him, etc. But somehow I don't know how to liked him. In places it irritates me as much as Sammy. What I like the most about him is that he doesn't cause any problems with colouring and strips with more of him mean less work for me.

Boris - you don't know him yet (he has appeared in the background of one frame throughout the comic so far), so I have no way to relate, but let me put it this way... Boris is the perfect Boris, that super-copy Joey dreamed of. He is friendly, obliging, somewhat cowardly, but overall a great buddy. And like any ideal character - he's boring. Just boring. I prefer dramatic characters, with a past, with problems or at least an interesting, aggressive or funny character.

Allison lands here too. I don't like her in the game and maybe that's why in my comic she came out like this... I won't say that she lacks character or claw, but... not intriguing. This may change, but for the moment she is a character whose role is to be a "strong independent woman" and she has no other role. I think many people will like her because of that. Me not very much. I just don't like this type of character.

I almost forgot about poor Piper. This is a character that leaves me cold. In every Gang, he is more of a taunt object or a servant at everyone's beck and call (in Polish we say: "przynieś, podaj pozamiataj" - I think it should be translate as "bring, serve, sweep"). But for consolation I made Pipers the most various (different hairstyles, clothes, length of the wooden prosthesis).

Fifth category: I hate this one.

Joey. I created a motherfucker that I hate. But I must admit, this motherfucker is well done, you will see...

I guess I haven't overlooked anyone, and even included a few characters that have yet to appear. However, if I missed someone, please ask :)

Okay, I finished Hiveswap 2 in... basically all one go. I will definitely have to do multiple replays to get all the Steam achievements, but that can wait until I do all my actual work and projects. Thoughts and major spoilers below.

Well Hiveswap 2 was certainly interesting! I can see why it took so long to make, and why Friendisms had to come first. That game certainly gives some more background lore to certain situations, though it also kind of… gave me certain character expectations that I feel were left unfulfilled. Like… given it is Alternia, and Doc Scratch admitted to messing around with everyone involved via his whatever-it-was making people more open to befriending the reader, I guess I’m not entirely surprised how certain situations ended up? Just… severely disappointed.

As far as gameplay goes, I think that the item management system was a little better than in part one, and it was cool that you actually got to switch between playing as Joey and playing as Xefros, and that they each had different commentary when you clicked on things. There is also a replayability factor, which is nice. The music was also really cool, especially how you could tell that the same melody was being used in every train car, just changed up a little to better fit the “theme” of the castes present in the cars. And that even held true when it got a lot darker/more depressing during the final quest! I’m also extremely glad that there was a functional hint system, because there were times when I really, really needed it.

But the bee minigame came pretty much out of nowhere, and the formatting for the directions was horrendous because it gave them to you after the game already started. Not in a tutorial fashion, either! Which meant that I couldn’t really read or understand what was actually going on until I’d failed the game two or three times, making the whole thing really tedious. Also… I’m kind of annoyed at how little actually got carried over when you use the “import Act 1 data” function? Like… inventory was the same, and maybe there were some things I missed, but it didn’t keep the name I gave Dammek’s lusus! It didn’t even use the default name for that option, either, or even throw in a line about Xefros telling you what it’s actual name was at some point while you were fleeing, which would at least explain the discrepancy.

Then there was the jade and teal car… and oh boy do I have a lot of complaints against that car. It’s honestly the one I had the most problems with, from both a gameplay and story perspective. For one thing, it dragged on way, way too long—especially for a middle section of the game. It would have worked a lot better as an endgame thing, I think, just in terms of the way games and stories are supposed to ramp up the action as you play, so things get progressively harder as you go. While there was some nice foreshadowing of how depraved the purple caste really is during that section… like the early game foreshadowing for it, it only really works effectively if you know the source material.

I mean. I guess Xefros’ discomfort in general works and gives it more of a wham/gut-punch for those who don’t know the source ahead of time, but… still.

Anyways, the length isn’t my only complaint with that section. The story was very interesting, I’ll admit, but the execution was not very good, especially when it came to the evidence. Now, I know this is apparently a common complaint with Phoenix Wright games, which that section is based on—that there is a specific order and place you need to use specific pieces of evidence, even when logic dictates that there is a far simpler solution to the problem. Like… at one point you need to come up with a motive for Tegiri to be hanging out by the Jade lockers. Considering that the entire trial has to do with the theft of a “forbidden book on rainbow drinkers,” this is something you find out during the evidence collection phase before the trial even begins, and another piece of evidence collected clearly states (or at least implies extremely heavily) that Tegiri is into rainbow drinker stuff, one would think that piece of evidence would be enough for a motive, right? Wrong. Instead, you have to use a broken action figure… and then you STILL use the other piece of evidence to show that he’s into weird romance stuff and would have been interested in reading the book! And that’s not the only time stuff like that happens!

Not to mention the section in the middle where the trial takes recess. The dialogue implies that what’s happening is you’re getting the chance to collect more evidence and statements… but, no, what’s actually happening is that you’re supposed to be taking this time to accuse other people of actually being the culprit by combining two pieces of evidence. The problem is, it doesn’t tell you this is what’s happening, give you any warning that you won’t be able to talk to the people you’re accusing again if you combine the wrong evidence, or let you use any selection screen aside from the evidence ones when it would be extremely helpful to be able to check on the timeline or suspect section again in order to get a refresher on where everyone was. And one of the pieces of evidence is a diary—but once you have it in your possession, you can’t check the relevant entry again! It only says who the diary belongs to and that some of it is censored. And since there is reason to believe that someone else messed with the diary to implicate the owner, it would be very helpful to actually get to explore that further in depth!

I really do hope that this is a case where there are multiple different endings, since the way it left off on my playthrough left an extremely bitter taste in my mouth, especially in regards to Tyzias’s character, who I actually really, really liked in Friendisms! But here… I got the “Scapegoat” achievement (which is why I’m hoping that there are other ways to complete this section), with the end result being that even though we got our client declared innocent, we also got an innocent (or at least, one heavily implied to be innocent afterwards) person declared guilty—in part because our co-counsel did not inform us of the fact that she witnessed evidence being tampered with and, in fact, knew who the true culprit was all along. And while her “Experiment” was deemed a success—and, I suppose, was technically successful within the set rules and did actually follow the whole “innocent until proven guilty” thing—it just highlighted that legislacerators still don’t actually care about justice. She could have, at any point, chimed in about what she saw, but was more interested in “keeping the peace” afterwards than actually getting the true culprit. And, yeah, baby steps and all, but…

I suppose thematically it does work well considering what happens at the end of the game when reaching the purple car, but…

I just thought better of Tyzias, is all. Friendisms implied that she was a real revolutionary for change, and, yes, I know that this wouldn’t be obvious to someone who didn’t play that game and some allowances must be made for that, but… even so, it just seems really out of character, and I don’t think it can all be blamed on forgetting lessons they learned while hanging out with the Reader/those things not actually happening in this continuity, for whatever reason (though, given how Fozzer was acting, and the fact that Chixie brings up the whole “Mask” persona, I’m pretty sure that we can assume they all remember some things that happened… just in a way that’s vague enough that those who played Friendisms can catch the references while those who didn’t won’t be lost on what’s going on)

…And, in hindsight, the whole thing was probably unnecessary to begin with since the book actually got found before the idea off a trial even came up??? I mean, part of that is because Marvus suddenly wandered in and seemed very interesting in holding one, and they didn’t want to upset him, but… yeah, it’s definitely a case of “this all could have been avoided,” especially since the book is apparently only forbidden for the jades to read. But I’m willing to give that one a pass, since trolls are weird and there were various circumstances escalating the situation.

I still think that Tagora had something to do with it, given what we know about his infatuation with Rainbow Drinkers from Friendisms… but that never actually came up in the game? I see where there may have been an opportunity for it, but it wasn’t a very clear-cut one and, at least the direction my playthrough went—would have required the player to actually have done his route in Friendisms.

(EDIT: Apparently there are some different ways to do this trial, according to some things already up on Steam, but they are dependent on some very early choices in the game--which would presumably affect some other choices in later games, and which means that i’m going to have to do many different playthroughs if i want to see everything available--and it still isn’t likely to remove the taint on my feelings towards Tyzias. After all, I’ll know that such capabilities for ruthlessness remain in her character, whether or not they’re actively showing.)

Also, hero-mode Xefros looks a lot older than I thought he was. And apparently joey is old enough to at least be a Freshman in high school??? I thought she was still in middle school!

As for other characters… some I felt were still in-character, some weren’t. Like… for what little we actually saw of Karako’s personality, considering he doesn’t really talk, I thought he was fine… despite being extremely surprised he was actually on the train at all considering his youth and, well, what little personality we saw indicating that he doesn’t really do “civilization” much. But the twins… while they were spot-on amongst themselves (resulting in an extremely chilling and heartbreakingly well-done scene near the ending), they seemed a lot more vicious in regards to their interactions with others. Wanshi apparently developed a real cruel streak in this game, and, ironically, Tirona was actually a whole lot nicer and not actually a suspect of that trial, despite being put on the stand as a witness.

I was also a bit disappointed that there weren’t more of those clever fight scenes we had from Act 1, where there was puzzle solving going on mid-fight—there were only two of them, one being so forgettable that I pretty much only remembered it existed just this second, and only the last one was really clever. There was at least one, maybe two other points where it would have been really cool/creative if Joey could have solved things with dance in a battling format… but her use of her dancing shoes was only plot important at two points in the game—and that first point wasn’t even her doing actual dancing, but, rather, as a buildup for the bee minigame. And then she never even got to use her “bee dance” skills again. At least Xefros finally got to use his bat—but, again, it was only once where it was actually a useful tool. He did get to use psionics more, though.

And there was a plot point with Skylla that was pretty much completely dropped? I mean… they did bring it up as something that was still unsolved right at the end, but… well, hopefully this just means that they’ll actually solve it for real in Act 3, because otherwise there was a perfectly good opportunity for a solution that Joey had in hand, but which didn’t get utilized. The issue is that Skylla’s lusus is apparently sick. One would think that this means that, assuming you carried over from part 1 (and I would assume even if you didn’t because it looks like a lot of the problems would be game-breakingly unsolvable if you didn’t have certain items you would have picked up through a playthrough of part 1. I guess that’s something to test for next time), this would require you to use the bestiary and vet kit, right? Wrong: I tried that and nothing happened. Apparently, the solution is that you promise Skylla you’ll look for medicine further down, and use that as a reason that Marsti should move away from the door so that you can pass by. But there’s never actually an option for you to look for the medication.

…Now that I think about it, though, this would be the prime opportunity for some inadvertent (or intentional, as the case may be) foreshadowing from Act 1. Two opportunities, even, with one being far more obvious than the other. One could be that Joey makes some commentary about knowing exactly what to do, having seen a similar problem in her own “lusus”—her pet dog back home. The other could be that Ladyy isn’t actually sick, but is instead pregnant and having little lusus puppies—which would be a callback to that Puppy Surprise doll from Act 1 where Joey hid her keys.

Still. I don’t like the fact that it never got solved in this part. Also that Vikare didn’t really get to do much (despite how annoying and confusing I myself find him) and that we didn’t get to see Fozzer again on the train even though we got to see several others on the train who we first saw at the station.

I’m also wondering what’s going to happen in part 4? Obviously part 3 is going to be either the party or further attempts to reach the party (and the suddenness of what happened with the ending does lend some more seriousness to the whole “you only have eleven days before everything gets destroyed thing), but… I’d assumed going in that two parts would be dedicated to Joey’s story, and two to Dammek’s, but apparently that’s not the case? If Joey really does get four parts to herself… then what the heck is Dammek’s story going to entail? I mean… those monsters, obviously, and whoever Jude’s “friends” are, but… I don’t know. I feel like it’s going to be hard to top this.

As far as lore goes… apparently the maturation trials are not the same thing as the exile, since Zebruh mentions already having gone through his, yet he is still on Alternia for what is implied to be… at least two sweeps, I think it was? I think he said he went through them at seven, and Chahut is approaching 9 or ten and mentions being only a perigee away from leaving. So that’s interesting. I guess the maturation trials are the equivalent of a career aptitude test or something?

It does make me wonder what happens with the Jades, though. Unless there are more mothergrubs on other planets, what do they even do when they’re off world, since apparently they are specifically tested when they are a lot younger to see who actually is assigned to the caverns vs. just living outside with everyone else. I guess maybe they just get jobs that are slightly more prestigious than olives, but still under teals? That would at least make sense for the ones who weren’t assigned to work in the caverns. Though it does make me wonder about Kanaya a little bit—had there been no game involved, would she still be considered “special” like the jades from Hiveswap given what her lusus was, except that because of said lusus she had to live outside of the caverns? It was, after all, implied that virgin mother grubs and their matriorbs were extremely rare.

Also, considering how full this train was, and the caste segregation going on, I’m wondering why the train from Sollux’s route in Pesterquest was so empty, and how he could apparently just get on any car he wanted. I mean—sure, he ended up in a car that only had an olive on it, but considering they were literally the only other passenger besides reader, that may have just been a coincidence. It can’t have been that there were separate waiting platforms for the different castes, either, since everyone was mingling together in Hiveswap before separating by car. Is it just that everyone was going to the party, but the train otherwise doesn’t get much use, or something like that? Or did it have more to do with whatever the ramifications were for Trizza’s defeat? …Or possibly the fact that the attack on the train at the end just made people still extremely wary about travelling by rail even sweeps after the fact?

There’s probably some more lore I can touch on, but… honestly, the trial section left me so upset that I can’t really put much of that together right now. I think I was going to say something about how the Jades would also be a good source of keeping culture alive between heiresses, since apparently they’re actually charged with doing so… but it’s hard to tell how much of that culture is just jade culture specifically vs. the rest of Alternia. Or even how much of it was actually serious, rather than a thinly veiled reason to let everyone indulge in things like tabloids, celebrity magazines, and rainbow drinker books.

Oh, yeah, and I’m pretty sure that Diemen at one point implied that his hot dog was actually made out of someone specific, though I’m not sure at this point whether that someone was his lusus, or if it was a troll. Either way, if that’s true, then it definitely explains why he is so protective of that specific hot dog.

EDIT: I remembered what the other bit of lore I wanted to discuss was. Well. I mean, it might not be considered “lore” as such, but... it’s interesting that of the two major rebellions we know of, both were headed by bronzebloods--that being the Summoner and Dammek. At least, I assume Dammek is the one heading the current rebellion. I wonder it it’s just a coincidence, or if there is something in bronzeblood nature that makes them more likely to lean towards these sorts of reactions? We know Dammek’s breed of lusus apparently favors strong leaders, and given the blood color would only be seeking out other bronzes (except perhaps when they hit the “my charge just died/got culled” stage and go looking for someone else to adopt, given what is happening with Joey), but presumably the Summoner had the same lusus type as Tavros. I dunno, it’s just interesting to think about.

Anyways... Overall I did really like the game! I loved the tone, despite how depressing it got at times, and Xefros’ and Joey’s developing relationship is amazing. I look forward to part 3. Hopefully it won’t take as long to come out.

Author Commentary

Ramblings from Yay Ninja Bob about her monstrous creation~

Besides working on my fic, I personally try to journal every day, and I realized that a lot of my journaling has become me pretty much rambling about the process of writing this damn fic lol. So I thought I'd share some of that for those who may want to know more behind my chapters from my author's perspective.

It's certainly not everything I can say, but it is a lot haha..

Chapter 1 - Thirteen

Behind the title:

Well, when I first began writing VillainR, I hadn't planned on having chapter titles at all. Mainly because coming up with chapter titles (or titles for stories in general) has always been something I struggle with personally. Anywho after I decided I wanted to challenge myself with chapter titles, I went back and named chapter 1 "Thirteen." Why? Well, it is the PpG's thirteenth birthday, of course there is that. VillainR as a whole is many things, but one major thing is it is a coming of age story for Buttercup/Joey/Jojo, as well as a story of self-discovery. There's a few important ages I wanted to cover and 13 is around the age where many kids start to "develop" and being a super-powered kid, Buttercup finally begins to develop her own "special power" at this age. I wanted this "growing pain" to be the catalyst for the events of Part One. So, I gave the chapter the title of "Thirteen" to try to highlight the significance of that age for Buttercup. The self-discovery made at this age is that special power (although they are unaware of it at this point). It's considered an unlucky number, and as it turns out, it is an unlucky year for our main character.

During the writing process:

First draft was written on Halloween night 2019 and pretty much all of it was completely scrapped haha.

I started writing it in first person, like the original Villain, in Buttercup's POV. I kept the events but approached it again in third person and liked it so much better that way. One major thing I wanted to improve on with the rewrite was character development which is pretty hard to achieve when writing in a limited POV of a character who eventually loses sight of much around them. I debated briefly on maybe doing alternating POVs between Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, but then I felt like it would still exclude a lot for other major characters like Mojo and Princess. I could add them too but I thought alternating too many POVs would be overwhelmingly difficult (for me as the author for sure but I imagine for the reader too) Third person seemed to be the best way to handle everything and really my only challenge with that was tweaking the whole "unreliable narrator" trope which I will be honest is my favorite trope ever. It is a challenge to try to recreate the same effect in third person, but I decided that a close third person was the best way to 1) tell a broader story and 2) still set limits on the reader's perspective, and control when and how I drop information and attempt to recreate a similar experience in an entirely new way I've never tried before heh. (I guess I will spend more time on this on my notes for Chapter 6)

Second draft I scribbled out in another few days with this new approach. It began at the start of the carnival and ended where it ends. Simultaneously I was reworking my overall outline for the fic and began to narrow down all the characters I wanted to be my key players for this epic. Once my outline was expanded to include everyone, I added the scene with Mojo and Him. For me, that's when I was like "Ayyy it's all coming together 👍👍" haha.

Another thing I wanted to improve on was setting and world-building. So final draft I decided to include some "history" behind Townsville and that's when I worked out the final draft.

This chapter definitely had the most trial and error during the writing process than any other chapter other than 5 so far.

Inspirations:

Townsville world-building/history - much of it is inspired by the city I grew up in (for the most part) which is Los Angeles. I mean it has all the sort of settings we've seen in the show which are all pretty diverse right? Townville had to have a diverse cityscape ranging from a busy downtown setting to quite suburbs to upperclass mansions, beaches, an island, forests, etc. Well I knew LA had all that and so I tried to re-imagine Townsville as basically an alternate universe LA lol. Monster Isle, I based on research I did on Catalina Island. I imagined the Utonium household was in a middle class neighborhood like Pasadena- close to the heart of LA but still a relatively "calmer" part of the city. Morbucks Manor would be in the Hills like Beverly Hills. Downtown was the heart of the city like Downtown LA. I debated briefly whether or not to have the Gangreen Gang be from an area modeled after South Central or East LA, but eventually I went with East LA because TBH I am just more familiar with it since that's where my mom's side is from and where I grew up early on in life. PLUS East LA actually has a pretty big punk scene so that fit the story too with Ace being in a punk band and all that.

"Oh, Man! It's so hard to choose, like, I love literally everything by them. But I gotta say it's a tie probably between their first album and London Calling."

The one artist Buttercup had introduced Robin to that she instantly obsessed over was Blondie.

(Some) Symbolism:

- Blossom is 5'9" and Buttercup is 5'8" - Buttercup is always falling one step behind Blossom.

- Bumper Car scene - has some foreshadowing and well...

Blossom sat behind the wheel of a red bumper car at the opposite end of the metal floored rink. Buttercup crossed her arms in protest, "No way. I'm driving." she demanded.

Blossom also crossed her arms from where she sat behind the metal wheel. "So you can just rampage and crash into everybody here? No way." She fastened her seat belt with a quick snap and placed her hands firmly on the steering wheel again.

"Ugh. That's the whole point of bumper cars! It's to bump the other cars! You're supposed to try and bump everyone before the times up!"

"You always take it too far, Buttercup. I'm driving, so get in." The redhead grasped the steering wheel in her hands firmly, and refused to move.

And...

"You drive like an old lady," Buttercup shook her head in disbelief as her sister managed to avoid yet another collision.

"Well, that's your opinion," she shrugged off the insult, "Personally, I think it takes just as much skill to avoid every single car in here, as it does to hit every single car," she smiled at her sister.

And finally a brief allusion to the OG Villain lol...

"Blossom!" Buttercup shouted louder so she could get her sister's attention. She pointed at the fast approaching purple car that zoomed towards them from their right side. Behind the wheel of that car was Bubbles who wore a rather determined look on her face as Robin cheered for her.

Blossom saw, but by then it was too late. Bubbles and Robin's car slammed into Buttercup and Blossom's car at full force, spinning Buttercup and Blossom's car into the wall of the arena. The loud buzz which signified the end of the ride then sounded.

- the roller coaster is Buttercup's ideal carnival attraction; it's got the thrills, twists, turns, ups and downs. And makes Bubbles sick.

- the Ferris Wheel is Blossom's ideal carnival attraction; it's a staple of any fair, grand and big, overlooks everything, and traditionally romantic

YNB's favorite scene:

Personally, I loved writing the whole exchange between Buttercup and Blossom in the car. Establishing their rivalry, Buttercup's jealousy over Blossom's special power and heroism, Blossom's projection of her own insecurities, their differences, and their commonality.

Final thoughts on the chapter:

I was pretty satisfied with how it turned out but I did wait to post it until I had a decent headstart on chapter 2. I was pretty nervous about whether or not I could stay personally committed to writing this fic so I just wanted to make sure I was really feeling it first, lol. It had been so long since I'd written fanfic so I just needed to be sure.

When I outlined everything I estimated the chapter length to be around 6-7k words... And I was surprised that it was double that at about 12k. Which was wild because on my outline each opening chapter for Part 1, 2 and 3 were supposed to be shorter and more like preludes to everything else. Well, I guess they ARE shorter chapters but STILL definitely longer than any chapter I used to write for my multichaptered stories. At the time I thought "Ok obviously my writing has changed but surely I wont go much longer than 12k for future chapters...." Hurr hurr.

Personally, I was pretty proud of myself for spending so much time on it and rewriting it over and over and all that. In the past, TBH whatever was my first draft was pretty much also my last draft haha. I cranked out a chapter in one sitting usually and edited it mayyyybeee lol. I just wanted to get it posted so I could move on and get to that next point in the story. But I suppose now that I'm older and a bit more self aware, I realize a lot of my own anxieties manifest a lot in my writing though and I can recognize it in my old works like the OG Villain where I JUST WANNA GET TO WHAT I WANT TO WRITE RIGHT NOW OK?? I forced myself to slow the hell down this time, take it one scene at a time, and when things felt off I took breaks, slept on it for a few days and came back with new approaches or ideas. And so far that's how I continue to work on it.

Also, CHVRCHES. I listened to a ton of that band while working on this chapter especially.

Hi. I discovered your fandom asks recently. Would you mind answering the shipping one for joey/mai? ^___^ and the character thoughts one for kaiba? Also, idk much abt the japanese sub, can you mention how he differs in it? Thanks, no pressure.

I’ll have to do the post about Kaiba separately so this thing isn’t too long, so for now...Jounouchi and Mai as a ship!

When I started shipping them: When the show first aired back in 2001...Mai/Jounouchi goes back with me a LOOOOONG way.

My thoughts: At first, Mai and Jounouchi seem like two characters that really shouldn’t have much of anything in common. Jounouchi is an immature and hot-headed, but cheerful street punk, while Mai is a vain, self-focused, glamorous champion duelist. One of the things I like most about both characters, however, is how much depth lies underneath the seemingly shallow exterior. Jounouchi seems at first glance to be a pretty standard “best friend” archetype, being not that smart, but quick to defend his friends and family, but Jounouchi is in truth very resourceful, insightful about people, resilient, and just flat-out fun to be around. Even though he comes from a broken family and has grown up with an abusive alcoholic father, and even though his cruddy lot in life didn’t give him a lot of coping mechanisms besides getting in fights and losing his temper, he knows what loyalty and honor are, he never loses his ability to laugh and have fun, and, above all, he never gives up. Over the course of the series, Jounouchi consistently proves to be the sort of person you would be foolish to underestimate. Similarly, Mai seems to be just a “gorgeous diva” with no real substance, but cracks appear in that image pretty early on after Jounouchi defeats her and she actually spends an evening hanging out with him and his friends. She lets Anzu borrow her shower and guards her so the boys won’t peek in on her, and she’s able to let her hair down and show some genuine compassion. Later she shows that same compassion by trying to help Yugi get his dueling spirit back and giving Jounouchi the card he needs to win the prize money for Shizuka’s eye operation. We see that although she’s very used to being on her own, she secretly longs to belong somewhere and to trust in others, however difficult of a time she sometimes has expressing it.

In the end, both Jounouchi and Mai find themselves hiding behind a mask of strength and pride from time to time, but those masks are hiding opposite personalities. Under Mai’s mask is a deeply lonely person who longs for friendship and love, and under Jounouchi’s mask is a happy person who just loves playing games with his friends and living life to the fullest...and yeah, don’t those personalities compliment each other? Mai can give Jounouchi the company and excitement that he wants, while Jounouchi can give Mai the trust and companionship that she wants. Yet there are still enough contrasts between the two characters that the relationship won’t feel stagnant. In essence, these two are a great example of my ideal romantic relationship: one that is a close friendship first and foremost.

What makes me happy about them: I love how they help each other grow and end up respecting each other so much. In the beginning, Mai of course is able to help encourage Jounouchi when he’s down, but later on, as Jounouchi becomes a stronger duelist, he’s able to help her out just as much.

What makes me sad about them: I admit, the age disparity between Jounouchi and Mai does make their relationship a little awkward, at least when they’re their canon ages of 16 and 24 (if they’re both aged up, then that gap wouldn’t bother me at all). I feel a bit better imagining that Mai just looks old for her age and Jounouchi is closer to legal age whenever I imagine these two in a more romantic setting.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: ...Honestly, I haven’t read many fics that solely focused around Jounouchi/Mai: usually it was just used as a side element. But I guess I don’t like the Jounouchi/Mai/Valon love triangle much, or much of anything else where jealousy is a key factor in Jounouchi and Mai getting together...largely because love triangles and jealousy don’t tend to do much for me, period, and I felt like the whole Jounouchi-and-Valon-dueling-for-Mai thing was kind of forced and unpleasant. I mean, come on -- you’re dueling “for” her WHEN SHE’S NOT EVEN THERE TO PUT FORWARD HER OWN OPINION ON THE MATTER OF YOU GUYS FIGHTING TO DEATH OVER HER. That’s not dueling “for her,” that’s dueling for your egos, you prats!

Things I look for in fanfic: Again, the only fics I remember reading with Jounouchi/Mai in the day sort of just had them as a side element and I don’t have many recommendations, but yeah, um...just have them be cute together! Have them grow together and bicker and make up and play games together!

My wishlist: 8D Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Monsters reboot? *puppy eyes*

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Mai I honestly don’t ship with anyone else, but if she ended up finding another guy closer to her age who we haven’t met yet and who she can be adorable with, I wouldn’t be totally crushed. Jounouchi, as I’ve said previously, I also ship with Kaiba and Yugi. ^.^

My happily ever after for them: Jounouchi and Mai fighting a double duel together as teammates, tag-teaming and exchanging witty batter with each other all the way to victory!

S5 Ep5: Female Friends

So I was up hella late because of Daylight Savings screwing my sleep schedule, and I was on Twitch and one of the people I follow was speedrunning a Yugioh game (I think it was called Forbidden Memories like it was some Romance YA novel) and I was like “that’s a thing?” And I watched about 15 minutes of just complete nonsense. Like this game makes no sense when your scrubbing through 30 minutes of gameplay, but when a whole game takes 45 seconds and they have mechanics using like planets and astrology symbols? What?

What?

Y’all, I’m a little concerned your card game ain’t real. Like this is some ploy by knowing adults and this is some sort of Santa Claus situation where everyone else knows that this game ain’t real, but I’m the last person alive who’s like... “it is real though, right?” Hoping that I haven’t been played all of these years, despite having literally no empirical evidence that it is.

Just saying, I’m on to you, Yugioh.

I am pretty convinced (could be wrong) but pretty convinced that Grandpa was probably just normal horny in this scene. Like it just kinda matches what I know about horny grandpa tropes (that and Vivian is really talked up to be this hot stuff although she’s just youknow...some girl who exists.)

He immediately falls over. Like immediately, and I don’t know what’s up with Grandpa’s weird slipped disc, but luckily this is the one thing that Mokuba is prepared to deal with as a park manager.

Or what was his job again, Master of Ceremonies? That was the name of Mokuba’s actual chosen job that a 12-13 yo would choose?

Only Mokuba would have the choice to choose “a literal astronaut” and not choose an astronaut. This kid probably hates space though, with his family’s countless war machines now currently flying through the void.

The amount of times that the Kaibas have had to call a doctor for these guys.

Bro was like “So Hawkins paid Grandpa to pretend to fall down so they could ditch Rebecca’s duel, right?” and youknow...probably. It was a pretty boring duel. They got off scott free.

Rex and Weevil do cartoon antics that actually feel like cartoon antics--which feels so weird for this show. Of course, it also has this Vivian plotline that is a little sus for a children’s show?

OK, show. You keep throwing women at Yugi Muto, and I get it’s a joke because he’s the world’s most undateable boy but there is a line of plausibility that even for a kid’s cartoon show it’s like “eh, probably not.”

Anyway, Vivian has Cho Chang energy of “I’m here for a problematic romantic conflict that never needed to happen and hamfisted diversity and uhhhhhh that’s it! I won’t exist after book 5!”

What a step down from dueling on top of the train, right? Like this whole time you could have just dueled next to it? What? In this show?

The rest of the party show up to the train station, where there’s really no other audience watching. Like where are Rebecca’s adoring fans who were asking for her autograph like 3 episodes back?

Card culture is brutal, y’all.

Vivian is not drawn like a 16 yo, being real. I was pretty surprised that she was under 25 according to a cursory Google search. Course, Joey Wheeler is drawn like a built adult, too, so I think the only convincing teenage child on this show is Pharaoh because at least he’s short. Just ignore how sometimes he’s got muscles on his arms that have no right to be there at the age of 16. (17?)

Then we had like a little Season Zero vibes where everyone just picks on Yugi for a hot minute.

And so Tea’s character development comes full circle as she realizes that this whole time, the Female Friend she needed was already here in the form of that small child who has a crush on her kinda boyfriend.

This was such an episode written by a bunch of dudes.

But at least Rebecca and Tea found something in common, although I really wish it wasn’t Yugi, considering how little on screen development he has with either of them. Where’s the reward for me as the viewer? If I cared about either of this love pentagon at all (well, hexagon...Bakura’s still in there.) there will never be a payout. You very well may be waiting forever for a relationship the writers clearly had never any intention to ever write except to act as a foil for our protagonists instead of like...a relationship.

And the show seems a little inconsistent with the relationship between Rebecca and Tea, too. They hang out a lot as the girls on the sideline, and appear to get along a lot of the time--but then they hate eachother a lot of the time as well because of jealousy? It’s just so weird.

I feel like TV shows in general have a really hard time approaching girl friendships, and speaking as a girl, I wish TV and books recognized more that our female friendships don’t have to be so freakin serious. We just act friendly and that’s freakin it.

That and these girls are going to go right back to hating eachother half the time after this is over because the main problem--Yugi not piping up and telling one of them to back the hell off--has never been addressed and never will be because Yugi is a broken, broken wet blanket.

Back at the base, Seto is also making up his own problems to be upset about in the absence of any apocalypses happening on screen.

Unless that hacker is Noah Kaiba, you’re probably fine. I really haven’t had too much of a reason to feel any fear over Zigfried von Schroeder. And maybe it’s because his character design was pretty complicated so no one wanted to draw it.

This was a ‘who’s on first’ joke but still.

...why do cards have to be like this?

Also, I didn’t see anything about this nonsense in the speedrun I watched the other night so, guys, this game ain’t real.

Anyway, Rebecca won.

We find out a little more of what happens to other duelists. Our Cowboy lost to a Sherlock Holmes boy, and I was very happy that I don’t have to come up with jokes about country music because I have none other than like...Taylor Swift jokes? Does she still count as country? I have no idea what’s going on in the country music scene.

On other side of the park, Yugioh decide to pay another tribute to the creative crotch shot with one of these:

Rex and Weevil are off to fight the big bad, and when you think “OK, we’re gonna get a wacky duel battle with these two balancing on top of eachother,” they kinda whiffed it before they made it to the stage.

And then I kind of whiffed it when I realized that Mokuba and Weevil have never spoken in the same place before and they have the same exact font color so fml.

The fact that Mokuba didn’t realize anything was wrong until they fell and revealed they were two small adults in a trench coat says a lot about most of the competitors in this duel.

It is incredible how both the Battle City Tournament and the Kaiba Corp Tourney (s that it’s name?) are both poorly managed, but in a different way. The Battle City Tourney unfortunately had a bunch of murderers in it. This tournament, no one is killing eachother, but they are still kind of sneaking in through the back door and being chronically late to everything.

(and I just want to point out that after the last match Mokuba oversaw that had Joey nearly miss the appointment, Mokuba decided to set this one in front of a Giant Clock just to get his point across)

So Zigfried has some sort of flying horse card that wiped them out right away, which makes you wonder........

.............why use any other cards?

Kaiba makes these cards, right????

Like he should be the last person who’s surprised????

Anyway, Zigfried top-decked a horse, and the guy who spends about 15 minutes getting ready his big ol blue eyes dragons every match he’s ever played was like “Yo I have GOT to get into speedrunning!”

And yes, the speedrun I was watching did not use Blue Eyes White Dragons. They were using a bunch of other stuff that I tried to look up just now and the art is completely different from what I recall so...unfortunately that means that your game is fake. Pretty sure it’s fake and you have no way to prove to me this is real.

Anyway, that’s it for now, not much to say since we’re still at the beginning of the arc. Next week I guess we’ll find out if Seto ever removes his ass from this chair.

Character Profile: Jack (Musical Version)

Real Name: Possibly Jack Kelly. However, in the film, that was an alias, and his real name was Francis Sullivan. (Newsies Film script, page 77) The same could be true for this Jack.

Nickname and Meaning: None (unless you count Jack Kelly)

Age: During the song Santa Fe, Jack sings “Trapped where there ain’t no future/ even at seventeen”, implying that he is, in fact, 17. (Newsies Live script, page 45)

Gender: Jack is always played by a man.

Family: Jack used to have a dad, but he died before the story started. (Newsies Live script, page 1) Aside from him, Jack has “no folks, nowhere”. (Newsies Live script, page 2)

Jack…:

Loves art. He paints for two main reasons- to help Miss Medda’s theatre by painting sets for her, (Newsies Live script, page 19) (Trading Card) or to calm down after going through something traumatic, like seeing his friends hurt or being locked up in the Refuge. (Newsies Live script, pages 53, 55, 65) But Jack doesn’t just like art- he’s good at it, too. Miss Medda remarks that he’s “got natural aptitude”, (Newsies Live script, page 19) and from what we see on stage, his paintings are professional looking, with excellent color choices. (Example)

Can’t take a complement. Despite his skill, when Medda tells Jack that he’s “quite an artist”, Jack aggressively brushes it off. (Newsies Live script, page 19) He also gets embarrassed and tells Davey to “shut up” after he rejoins the strike and Davey tells him they’re glad to have him back. (Newsies Live script, page 69)

Is traumatized. Jack suffered terribly at the hands of Snyder, to the point where he would abandon his best friend to get away from him. (Newsies Live script, pages 44, 45) However, he was also impacted by the death of his father- he talks to himself about his death (Newsies Live script, page 1) and gets very uncomfortable when Davey mentions his family. (Newsies Live script, page 17) This could show that Jack lost his father at a very young age, or that he watched him die.

Is a womanizer. When Jack first meets Katherine, he is very creepy to her. He annoys her while she’s working, (Newsies Live script, pages 21, 22) derails conversations about other topics to flirt with her, (Newsies Live script, page 36) and clearly doesn’t take her seriously as a reporter.(Newsies Live script, pages 33, 34) However, as he gets to know Katherine, Jack changes his ways (a little). He recognizes her intelligence enough to let her take over the strike and spread it to working children all over the city, (Newsies Live script, page 66) and when the strike is done he genuinely cares enough about her to give up on going to Santa Fe. (Newsies Live script, page 78) However, it is unclear if Jack’s attitude change applies to women in general, or only to Katherine.

Is naturally charismatic. Despite his poor treatment of her, Katherine still can’t help but think of Jack as “handsome, (and) heroically charismatic”. (Newsies Live script, page 78) He also convinces some of the more anxious newsies to strike within a day of coming up with the idea. (Newsies Live script, pages 27, 28, 29, 30, 41, 42) He does such a good job that even when Jack has given up on the strike, the newsies drag him right back into the fray. (Newsies Live script, pages 55, 56, 57)

Is highly emotional. Jack doesn’t try to hide any of his feelings, be they positive or negative. He is incredibly affectionate with Les and Crutchie, (Newsies Live script, pages 1, 2, 3, 16, 26) and claims to be in love with Katherine shortly after meeting her. (Newsies Live script, pages 67, 68) However, when something goes wrong, Jack also reacts very strongly. When the price of papers is raised, Jack is furious, practically screaming during The World Will Know. (Newsies Live script, page 30) Later, when a group of newsies scab, Jack desperately tries to convince them not to give up, almost crying. (Newsies Live script, pages 41, 42) This is most apparent after Crutchie is taken to the Refuge. The fearless Jack Kelly quickly retreats and goes into a depressive episode, almost calling off the whole strike. He only rejoins the cause when Davey, Katherine, and Les remind him that quitting is pretty much a death sentence for Crutchie. (Newsies Live script, pages 55, 56, 57)

Loves his newsies. Jack sees himself not as a leader, but as perhaps an older brother to his newsies. When Pulitzer raises the price of papers, Jack refuses to let him hurt is boys, and encourages them to strike with him as leader. (putting him in more danger than usual). (Newsies Live script, pages 25, 26) He also does his best to keep the newsies from worrying, offering to go to Brooklyn when everyone else is too scared. (Newsies Live script, page 33) He’s especially fond of newsies he can help, like Crutchie, and Davey and Les (who are new).

Is not academically smart. What Jack has in social skills and planning ability, he lacks in general knowledge. Among his many gaffs are calling Brooklyn “the sixth largest city in the world”, (Newsies Live script, page 33) telling Crutchie to “quit gripin’” about his bum leg because it helps him sell (conveniently forgetting that Crutchie doesn’t want to rely on his leg to sell well, his bad leg is very painful, and that being crippled puts him in danger of being thrown in the Refuge forever), (Newsies Live script, page 1) and almost ruining his chances of getting the strike covered by hitting on the cute reporter. He readily admits it, though- when Katherine calls him the newsies’ leader, he’s quick to tell her that Davey is the one with all the ideas. (Newsies Live script, page 36)

Is cocky. The instant Davey suggests a strike, Jack is wholly on board. He doesn’t think about how dangerous a strike could be to the kiddos, he just starts assigning roles and giving orders. (Newsies Live script, pages 25, 26, 27) He also continues to hit on Katherine even after she expresses her disinterest. (Newsies Live script, pages 21, 22, 36)

Doesn’t actually want to go to Santa Fe. As Miss Medda so cleverly pointed out, Jack isn’t "going somewhere”. (Newsies Live script, page 53) Instead, Santa Fe represents what Jack really wants- a family. Just look at how he describes it- during Santa Fe Prologue, he says that in Santa Fe “your friends are more like family” and “why, the minute that you get there, folks’ll walk right up and say/ welcome home son, welcome home to Santa Fe”. (Newsies Live script, page 2) It’s also interesting to note that the only newsie Jack calls family is Crutchie, who is also the only newsie who shares his dream of Santa Fe. (Newsies Live script, page 3)

Could hold some antisemitic beliefs. Jack probably doesn’t know that Davey is Jewish (as it’s never confirmed in canon) but he probably picked up on it somehow (maybe even subconsciously). This puts certain quotes into a different perspective- like how Jack accused Davey of being willing to let kids be sent to the Refuge for “half a penny a pape” (a common antisemitic stereotype is that Jews are greedy). Important Message I Would like to get off my chest for a bit

I would like to say something to you all, throughout the years that i’ve had this blog, i thought it would never get this well liked, i thought i was just gonna be another one of those cringy 13 years old roleplayers that are always in character, but, well, it’s 2019 and here we are, and i would like to say,,,, thank you.... thank you everyone for being here with me, throughout all the hardships i’ve faced over the years, and with the bullshit i have to deal with at home, i still find someway to smile throughout it all. it’s because of you guys you guys are the reason why i keep going with this blog, why i keep moving forward in life and interacting more with others, it’s you guys who made prowler who he is today character wise pretty much, i enjoyed seeing you all interact with my characters, and most of all, even if i don’t get any more asks or starters, just seeing ya’ll like my stuff is more than enough to make me move forward for the rest of the day, you guys are like a second family to me, and i love you all to death, even if you all just like, fave and then leave a few seconds later that’s really all im glad for, that you all still notice my work and like it, even if i would be glad if i could get asks again, im not gonna be a little bitch and just, spam ask box is open, that was the old old old me, this is a new year and a new me, a few moments of ya’ll times as i would like to say to some of my most closest friends or famous people who’ve helped me in the past and still help me to this day even if they don’t know or feel it. @ask-coldarcherbendy- one of the first friends i actually made on here during my main blog, shade has been a good person and a good friend to me, and was the reason of how fast my blog grew in a short period of time, she’s the main reason why i created my own bendy blog in the first place so in a way she is my idol, and im proud to have you have you as a friend. @ask-soul-bendy- my second but amazing friend in the whole world, sheyd has been there by my side whenever i felt down, or depressed, or angry, he’s a great talker, and a great listener and was willing to stop everything he was doing just to talk with me about my problems sometimes, for that i thank him, he’s one of the greatest artists i know in my opinon, and a amazing friend to me <3 @ahrifoxtailgoddess- i would like to thank you ahri, for being a very good friend, and almost like a sister to me at times, you’ve been one of the best friends i’ve ever known for years on both DA, and on here, i’ve watched you grow and you’ve watched me grow, you have a job now and here i am, still here but at leash you can meet new people, for that im happy for you, i thank you for all the times you’ve and i’ve goofed around, for all the times that we would sat sit down and just laugh about random things that make no sense, and for giving me inspiration to draw more, if it wasnt for you i wouldn’t have found so much joy and happiness with drawing, so i hope that even if you may not find your work the best, i hope that you remember all the fun that we had together, love ya fam~ <3 @ask-modern-demonarchived- even though i know your no longer on tumblr, i still have hopes that you lurk around here from time to time, if you do, im glad that you could buy the time to view this, the mun here is just, really sweet, and very amazing, them being the first people i had my own precious boy, bendy meet, by then he was just called modern, you were a very huge inspiration on me, as due to how much your writing style inspired me to make my own writing style, throughout my years i’ve just, been improving, for that i thank you my friend, i hope that you are having a wonderful life, whereever you may be for now. @kkw424- though we barley talk now a days on tumblr, im quite glad that we got to knew eachother for a while and had fun goofing around in messages, and for having prowler meet one of the most cutest little demons that he’s ever seen, and in a way, i would have to thank you for your own way of drawing bendy gave me the moviation i wanted to start drawing my own bendy once again, i guess what im trying to say is that if it hadn’t been for you, i would have never started drawing my own boy again, and if i even did, i probbally would’nt have not put that much effort into it ^^; @licoriceblackaliceangel- even though we barley talk now a days, i honestly enjoyed all the times we’ve have with my bendy and your alice, despite of many possibly situations, we somehow still found ways to be friends despite of everything and for that, im glad to have you as a friend. @sammys-sanctuary- another amazing friend that i met who i’ve now consinder one of my other idols, out of all the three that i met before everyone else, sammy was one of the artists and story makers that i have found the most interesting and amazing, plus they were the reason of how i met the creator of spider!bendy! @ask-spider-bendy- speaking of the mun of spider, i would like to thank him, for being a amazing inspiration towards me, and for being a very wonderful person and artist, your art and posts always makes me laugh no matter the day or mood im having, somehow your posts just have, a unique vibe to them that just, makes people like me laugh like crazy. @metallicartist- another person whom i met during my first years of being on tumblr on this blog, they were the nicest i have ever met, and a amazing friend to this day, i owe it to her of being another inspiration to why i draw, because im hoping that one day, i can draw as good as her, maybe someday that’ll happen, someday. @inkwise, another person whom i met thanks to interactions with some of my other friends, i was scrolling around tumblr and just, happened to come across this blog, and by then i was trying to be more social and all so i figured why not and talk a bit with them, best choice i’ve ever made, because of the sweet mun that is known as avi (the god) they inspired me mentally to be the person i am today, even if i don’t show it sometimes, im glad that we are and still are friends. @inkgalaxys- another person whom i met during when i was coming back slowly from my long ass hitaus, i originally met them when they asked alpha (they told me it was meant for prowler but hh) a small little starter, which at the time i wasnt that hesitant to roleplay with other people like i am now, but i guess time changes, and like some years later i decided to have conversations with some people that i knew over the years on this blog and pastel just happened to be one of them, again, another best choice, i enjoyed seeing their blog, and their art style is just, adorable and amazing, as a fellow cartoonist artist myself i respect you, i still do! and im glad that we are still friends, despite with things that happened, somehow we forgave eachother and, moved on from it, your characters and little roleplays with mine are always fun to see and view whenever im lurking around on tumblr, and plus honestly your one of the most valid people that i would say that deserves more than me out there, so again thank you for being such a dear and an amazing friend towards me, i still hope that sometimes we can still have fun with our characters goofing around on tumblr and all that jazz, maybe someday it’ll go back to that. @one-eyed-twin- me most favorite BATIM Ask And RP AU blog of all time!~ when i was simply scrolling around tumblr i have no idea when i stumbled across this blog, i admired the art style of this and wanted to see if this blog was messageable, sadly not, but before then despite that i found the mun and they were really nice, and we became good friends! with them i was inspired to create a more, child like and kinship version of prowler that would later be his trademark mood for whenever he interacts with clyde, who is the most sweetest of demons and deserves better in his life, please go by their blog sometimes and give them love, they deserve it <3 @derpy-doodlees and @anawizachu585- two people who i consindered to be the bestest of friends that i had and talked with when i was only comfortable with talking with few people, i found them one day and just, had a chat, eventually we got to talking a lot more and discovered that we all had a few things in common, plus there also sisters too! and they are really nice and funny! two of the most funniest and kindest friends that i’ve ever had @halfusek- one the most famous people on tumblr, their strange but amazing art style made me honestly very happy every time i would see it, i would just, get a whole lot of wholesome vibes from them, plus, their joey is just, beautiful, along with their blog and content, they are one of the best people i would call an idol and possibly a friend in the near future. @a-rae-of-sunshine- one of the most recent bloggers i’ve met, who i already consindered to be famous, is very nice and very cool! i adore their HEA!au and it’s wholesome content, im glad that i had the chance to talk with ya and become slight friends! @ask-eb-drago-bendy- another person whom i met during my slight hitaus from tumblr when i was just lurking around, i got a slight random ask from them, and being my curious self i decided to view their blog before anything, and i got to talking with them, and we became good friends, their art style actually inspired me to make detailed art more often than i would normally do, plus gave me the slight inspiration to make my sweet boy have a scary dragon like form~ @theswordandthependle- queenie is a god and a amazing friend, nothing else to say, there pretty funny too, made me laugh a few times too. @problematicprojectionist- another friend whom i met during my first few years slightly on this blog on tumblr during my long ass hitaus, their art style were amazing and their norman is, just a sweetheart, he and my henry got along very well ;W; and plus the mun, angel is a sweetheart and a amazing person. @mad-hatter-ison- another person whom i met when i came back during my long ass hitaus, they were funny, cool, and nice! and honestly that’s all i would want to see in a friend, being nice and having fun with eachother! they inspired me to actually be more social around people and talk more, even though i’ve been slightly not doing that,,, im trying ;u; @core4lost- another person whom i met along with sheyd, though at first we barley talked a lot, mainly on da and tumblr but later on we became quite good friends! and even though we’ve barley talk now, i still have high hopes in the near future, plus it was for them that prowler turned out to be such a cutie pie when meeting other toons like core’s adorable little demon child named corr~ @instrumentsofcyanide- stella is a amazing person and one of the most funniest bendy bloggers i have met in my life, their bendy named oreo had been the main cause of my more happy mood swings, their posts and shitposts are just the most beautiful and funniest i have ever seen, plus they are a good friend of mine that im glad to have met <3 @ask-the-crafty-demon-bleh- and lastly i would like to talk about one of the most other slightly famous people i know, they inspired me to change my bendy’s personality and behavior to make him more original, and made him stand out from others, i enjoyed seeing their content, and their adorable little bendy character named crafty, whom he and prowler became good friends just like with me and their mun, and honestly, with them and the mun of soul-bendy, they inspired me to make more friends, and be more strict, but also more polite and mature too, they were amazing role models, and amazing friends, and they still are some of my most amazing friends to this day. thats... really i all have to say ya’ll, i know this post is like, very long right now but im hoping that ya’ll would have the time to view it when you get a chance, and before you all ask, no this is not a post of me saying goodbye forever, then it would of been a lot more sad oof, i may go on a short hiatus sometime during spring, but im not gonna go on another long ass hiatus or leave tumblr completly, it’ll take more than my emotional life and stress to keep me from leaving the main scource of why im who i am today, so again to everyone, thank you all for supporting my blog, and to those who have been with me since the beginning, you all are valid and beauitful and deserve to be loved by everyone, that is all i have to say, imma gonna get off now but i hope you all took the time to read this post ;U;

1. Who is your favorite character in 2?

I’m going to have to go with Spike. Lots of characters are close second like Giles or Willow but Spike is fantastic all through the show. He made a great villain and a very complex, interesting and often touching kind of good guy while always remaining fun and never being boring.

2. Who is your least favorite character in 1?

The whole Ruby/Hale thing felt like a huge waste of time and they weren’t either fun or terrifying villains at all. I also hated Ward as a good guy until 1x17 where I understood where they were going with him. He was, for me, the weakest, most boring character in the show and I spent most of season one wondering why he was there at all :p He was really good as a villain though.

3. What is your favorite episode of 4?

Hard to chose but My Screwup (season 3) is so well written and shows that Scrubs is not only a goofy comedy but has a lot of beautiful emotional moments.

4. What is your favorite season of 5?

Definitely season five. I can’t remember when I really started watching but it’s definitely Chandler and Monica’s relationship that got me hooked. The whole part where they’re hiding their relationship is hilarious and Ross gets so much funnier during that season too.

5. Who is your favorite couple in 3?

Mulder and Scully obviously.

6. Who is your favorite couple in 2?

Willow and Tara

7. What is your favorite episode of 1?

Sooooo many, mostly related to FitzSimmons. 1x06 is the one who made me fall in love with FitzSimmons and 6x06 kind of was the episode we’ve always wanted as FS shippers.

8. What is your favorite episode of 5?

Sorry @2minutes2midnight“ I’m not trying to steal your answers but it’s also “The One Where Everybody Finds Out” that comes to mind when I think of Friends :D And there’s also “The One With All The Thanksgivings” which is really gold with all the 80′s flashbacks and Phoebe’s memories from other lives :D

9. What is your favorite season of 2?

Probably 5. Glory was a lot of fun, the way they introduced Dawn was perfect and the finale was epic, beautiful and heartbreaking.

10. How long have you watched 1?

Almost from the beginning so about six years. I started when the show was around 1x13, binged it all and was caught up by the time of the big Hydra reveal.

11. How did you become interested in 3?

My sister used to watch it and I was kind of scared at first but since I wanted to stay late at night as well (the first few seasons used to air kind of late on Saturday nights where I live), I started watching and got a little hooked somehow.

12. Who is your favorite actor in 4?

I honestly love them all but probably Zach Braff. Love him in everything I’ve seen him in.

13. Which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5?

Right now, I’d probably say 1 because it’s still airing but the two others are starting to be quite old and I keep coming back to it all the time so I’d have to wait about fifteen years to see if I do the same with AoS and then I can give a proper answer :D

14. Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3 ?

Well X-Files have a lot more seasons (and now we now for sure that it will always be the case :() and I rewatched it all so many times that at some point, I could recite the names of all the episodes by heart (and in the proper order) so yeah, definitely 3.

15. If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?

Probably Jordan, I wish I had that much confidence.

16. Would a crossover between 3 and 4 work?

That would be quite unlikely but in one of the lighter episodes of X-Files, why not...

17. Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple.

All my ships are either canon or very popular. I don’t know if it’s considered unlikely but I really like Sci&Spies lately <3

18. Overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5?

Those are very different and X Files definitely has a more complex storyline (although it’s gotten quite messy after season seven) but Friends has been almost perfect all along for me in terms of storyline (except the whole Rachel/Joey thing) so... But still probably X-Files.

19. Which has the better theme music, 2 or 4?

Honestly, I loooooove the music in both but Buffy’s theme music is legendary and so representative of what I love that I have to go with that.

Henry Drew Chapter 1

Summary: How different would Henry's life be if he isn't the best friend of Joey Drew but his one and only son? An AU Where Henry is Joey Drew's son. Watch as he lives life with a father who will do anything to keep him safe.

Henry Drew, the only son of Joey and Mary Drew, has always loved drawing, one of the many things he inherited from his mother.

His Father, Joey, had seen the potential in his artistic skills since he was young and has always encouraged him to perfect his art style and create his own characters. He was more than happy to have any excuse to draw, he would create many characters but he never felt attached to any of them, moving on to the next character once he has perfected their looks.

His Mother, Mary, was a lovely lady who sparks the love of drawing in him and taught him everything she knows whenever they have the time to sit down and draw together. Unfortunately, she was brutally murdered when he was 9 and her killer was never brought to justice. Ever since her death, his Dad has become overprotective of him and it has only gotten worse as he grows older.

Henry grew up hearing his Dad telling him that he is all that he has left of his Mom and he doesn't want to lose him. It hurts Henry to see his Dad so upset over the lost of his Mom so he never complained whenever his Dad is too overbearing or when his Dad quit his well paying job to open his own studio just so he doesn't have to leave to find a job, neither did he place any blame on his Dad when his girlfriend, Linda, broke up with him because he spent more time working on creating the character their studio need to stay afloat then being with her.

The solution to all their problems came to him in the form of a Little Dancing Demon he named Bendy. Once he has perfected Bendy's design he felt something he has never felt with his other characters, he felt pride as he looks down at Bendy's final design. He just knew that his Little Devil Darling will be just what this studio needs and he can't wait to show him to his Dad.

Henry is happily working on the first cartoon Bendy would be starring in when his Dad walks up to him with a slightly muscular handsome man with chestnut brown hair that is long enough to be tied into a short ponytail and beautiful blue eyes. When his Dad got his attention and he saw the other male he had to force himself to stop staring and stood up with a smile on his face to greet the handsome male.

"Henry, meet Sammy Lawrence! He's going to be our Music Director from now on! Sammy, meet Henry Drew!" Joey wraps an arm around Henry as he beamed proudly. "He's our Head Animator and creator of Bendy! "

"Dad!" Henry's cheek turns bright red in embarrassment as he gently pushes his Dad's arm off of him. "You promised that you won't do this while we are at work."

"Sorry Son, but I couldn't help it!" Joey chuckles softly as he ruffled his son's hair. "I'm just so proud of you!" He smiled brightly. "I have some paperwork to finish so do you mind showing Sammy to his office?"

Henry nods his head as he cocks his inkwell and put his dip pen aside. "I don't mind."

"Great! Get along now you two!" Joey wave as he walks back to his office.

Henry waits until his Dad is gone before turning to Sammy. "I am sorry you had to see that, Dad is just excited that things are finally looking up."

Sammy smiled as he waves off his apology. "There's no need to apologise, I understand how dads are. Mine is still bragging about my achievements."

Henry sigh in relief. "Thank you." He smiled as he leads Sammy to his office. "Come on, your office is this way." Sammy seems like a swell guy, he hopes that they would become friends.

"Henry!" Wally greeted with a smile when he saw the young man and held out the cup of coffee he made for him. "Working late nights again?" He didn't have to ask, it is common for Henry and Sammy to stay overnights at the studio to finish their work before the deadline.

Henry smiled gratefully as he accepts the coffee. "Thank you, Wally." He takes a sip of his coffee. "Yeah, I have to finish this by tomorrow and we don't have enough animators to finish it on time."

"Ya know...ya could ask your Dad to hire more to help ya or ask ya team to work longer." Wally said as he leans against the wall with his arms crossed. "It can't be good for ya to keep overworking yourself like that."

Henry shakes his head. "We don't have the money to hire more people and my team needs their rest. Don't worry, I can handle myself." He covers his mouth as he yawns softly, one good thing about this is that his Dad is actually letting him stay, probably because he knows exactly where he is and he would be safe in the studio.

"And ya surprised that ya team calls ya mom even though you're the youngest." Wally rolls his eyes. "Go take a nap and see if ya can drag Sammy with you before he passes out."

"Sammy stayed at the studio last night?" Not that Henry was all that surprised he didn't know the other man stayed the night with him, when they stay the night the both of them are always working at their desk and only getting up to use the bathroom or get something to eat or drink at their desk so it's no surprise that they miss each other whenever they are working overnights together.

"Yeah he did, said that the song has to be perfect." Wally pushes himself off the wall and grabs the empty cup from Henry. "Go grab a couple of hours of sleep in the break room so I can clean in peace and drag that other workaholic with you."

Henry rolls his eyes as he stood up. "We are not workaholics, Wally. We just want to finish our job on time."

"Whatever helps ya sleep, Hen. Now go, shoo!" Wally waves his hand to shoo Henry away from his table.

"I'm going, I'm going." Henry said as he walks towards Sammy's office and knocks on his door before peeking in. "Sammy, Wally is kicking us to the break room to get some sleep."

"I am almost done." Sammy stopped writing to cover his mouth as he yawns. "I just need a few more minutes."

Henry entered his office and look over his shoulder. "Sammy, you are not almost done. Let's just take a power nap while Wally cleans up before we continue."

Sammy sigh softly as he put down his pen and cock his inkwell. "Fine. But only for a few hours or I will never get this done." He said as he stood up.

"You and me both, Sammy." Henry smiled tiredly as they walk towards the break room. He didn't watch his step and almost fall down the stairs but luckily for him, Sammy caught him before he can fall.

"Looks like you really need that nap." Sammy helps him up but keep his arms around him as they go down the stairs.

Henry yawn softly as he leans against Sammy and let him lead to the makeshift 'bed', which is just all the blankets in the studio they use during the winter piled up near the wall, Wally made for them in the corner of the room, this isn't the first time they had to sleep together like this and Wally is usually the one making them sleep. "Yeah. I guess I do." He rubs his eyes, looks like drinking a cup of coffee isn't going to help him stay awake.

"You really shouldn't overwork yourself, Henry. It isn't good for your health." Sammy said as he helps Henry on their blanket nest and takes off his shoes before sitting down and taking off his own shoes.

"Says the person who is also overworking himself." Henry muttered softly as he pulls a blanket over himself and made himself comfortable.

"But you need your sleep to grow taller~" Sammy teased as he curls up so the blanket can cover his whole body.

"Excuse you, I'm not short, I'm fun size and I'm not the one who has to curl up just so the blanket can cover my whole body." Henry sticks his tongue out at Sammy.

"Touché." Sammy smiled softly. "Do you mind if I do it again?" He asked softly.

"No, I don't mind at all." Henry shifts their blankets so they can cuddle together.

"Thank you." Sammy said as he wraps his arms around Henry and pulls him close to his chest. It's not that he likes cuddling or anything, it's just that there aren't enough blankets for him to sleep comfortably their nest with another person without cuddling them.

"Mmm...." Henry hum sleepily as he cuddles closer to Sammy and rests his head on his head. It did not take him long for the warmth of Sammy's body to lull him to sleep.

Sammy smiled softly as he hugs Henry closer and closes his eyes before falling asleep.

Norman watch in amusement as Sammy praise each band member and pass out cookies that he has baked himself while beaming like a proud parent, he had asked Sammy about it before and he said that positive encouragement, praise and rewards is a good way to make sure that the band does everything he wants without mistakes. Norman finds it too entertaining to tell Sammy that that is how people teach their pets to learn tricks and it is working so far so who is he to judge how Sammy treats his team? Plus he might stop baking those delicious cookies and he isn't going to risk that.

When the band all clear out of the room, each happily munching on a cookie, he heads down and walks up towards Sammy. "Good job on another beautiful piece." He said as he picks up a cookie and takes a bite of it.

"You're lucky I like you." Sammy said as he keeps the rest of the cookies.

"Enough to give me your leftover cookies?" Norman asked hopefully.

"Nope. Sorry, but they are for Henry." Sammy smiled softly at the thought of the shorter man.

"Oh?" Norman raises his eyebrow. "Something going on between the two of you?"

"Wha-what? Of course not! Why would you think that?"

"You made extra cookies just for him after he said they are delicious, he is the only one you would cuddle with, hell you would glare at anyone who's not named Henry Drew if they touch you, you always put your best foot forward whenever he's around and don't get me started on the dreamy look you have on your face whenever we talk about him. It is so painfully obvious that I'm surprised no one else figured it out yet." Norman gently pats Sammy's back. "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone." He smiled softly.

"First off, he is a male like me and second, even if he is female he would still be our boss's kid and I am not looking to be fired." Sammy said as he ignores the feeling that is growing in his chest.

"Love is love no matter who's kid they are or what they have between their legs." Norman wraps his arm around and pulls him close. "Trust me, you will regret it if you keep ignoring your feelings for him."

"Look, I don't know what you are going on about but I do not have feelings for Henry." Sammy pushes Norman off of him. "I just like him as a friend." He said before speed walking away from Norman.

Norman shakes his head as he watches Sammy leave. "Poor guy. Hope he'll figure it out before he loses Henry."

Susie knocks on Joey Drew's office door and entering when she heard a soft 'Come in'. "You wanted to see me, Sir?" She smiled nervously as she faces Joey and Henry Drew. Why is Henry here? Did she do something wrong? She sure hopes not.

"Take a seat, Susie." Joey waits until she has taken her seat before continuing. "How are you, Dear? I hope we're not putting too much stress on you."

"O-oh no, Sir! Nothing like that! I really enjoy working here and everyone is very nice." She is quick to reassure her boss that everything is fine.

"Ah, I'm glad to hear that, Dear. Now you know my son Henry is the Head Animator, right? He created The Little Devil Darling that is our mascot and created Bendy's best friend Boris!" Joey smiled brightly and was stopped by Henry before he can continue.

"Please stop, Dad. We didn't drag Miss. Campbell all the way here for you to brag." Henry is covering his face in embarrassment. "You also promised that you'll stop doing that at work."

"Sorry, I just can't help it." Joey chuckles softly. "Okay, back on track before I make my baby boy angry." He ignored Henry's protest as he opens a file and slide it over to Susie. "Susie, meet Alice Angel. Henry's next big hit and the character you will be voicing from now on."

Susie found herself speechless when she takes the paper from Joey and takes a good look at the angel.

"You don't have to accept if you don't want to." Henry said when he did not hear her say a single word. "We'll find someone else-"

"NO!" Susie yelled before blushing, she can't believe she just yelled at Henry! Not only is he a kind man he is also her boss's son! She clears her throat as she tries again. "Uh...I mean you don't have to. I would be more than happy to voice her." She looks down to hide her embarrassment.

"Great!" Joey smiled brightly, not at all bothered by her yelling. "I'm glad you've accepted the role, Susie. To be honest the minute I saw Alice I just knew that you have to be the one to voice her!" He said as he holds out a script. "Go find Sammy to record your lines and you may keep the drawing of Alice but don't show her to anyone okay?" He smiled as he holds a finger to his lips. "She is still a secret."

"Yes, Sir! I won't let you down!" Susie smiled brightly and bow before leaving to find Sammy.

Joey sigh happily when the door close behind Susie. "Our son is a genius, Mary. It took him less than a year to create three characters that will bring success and fortune to this studio!" Joey said to the picture of his wife with a big grin on his face.

"Dad....you promised..." Henry protests weakly as he covers his face in embarrassment, when will his Dad keep his promise and stop embarrassing him.

"What? Can't I be proud of my son anymore?" Joey pretends to sound offended but the amusement in his eyes gave him away.

"You can, just not at work. We are supposed to be professionals." Henry sighs softly, knowing no matter what he says it would never stop his Dad.

"Okay okay, I'll try to stop myself next time." Joey chuckles softly as he ruffled his son's hair. "Now go back to work so you can actually come home with me for a chance. I'm starting to feel like I am living alone."

Henry smiled softly as he stood up. "I'll try to finish it as fast as possible." He bends down to kiss his Dad's cheek. "But I make no promises." He said before leaving.

Joey waits until Henry is gone before turning back to the picture of his wife. "Our son is all grown up, Mary." He smiled softly as he gently stroke his wife's picture. "You would be so proud of him, I know I am. Bendy and Boris are a huge success and I just know Alice would be as well. And with all the money we are earning we'll be able to expand the studio and hire more people." He picks up his wife's picture and leans back against his seat. "Best of all our son is somewhere I can still watch over and protect him. I promise you, Mary, as long as I am around I will not let anything bad happen to our son." If his smile turns a little twisted...oh well, no one is around to see it anyway and as long as his son is safe it doesn't matters who sees the dark side of him or if he has to dirty his hands for his precious son.

Escape to Korea

Watching Korean dramas or “K-Dramas'' can be considered as a way of relaxation or an escape to reality nowadays. There are a lot of streaming platforms that can be accessed by everyone and search the latest episodes of the most trending K-Drama or binge watch some old ones. There are people who prefer to wait for a drama to finish before watching it because they don’t want to feel ‘hunged up’ after watching an episode. But some are willing to wait for another week so they can keep up with the latest happenings. Korean dramas are not actually new in our leisure culture; these have already been on our television for two decades.

The first ever Korean drama that was aired in the country was Successful Story of a Bright Girl. It was aired on GMA Network, but has not really reached an audience. The first Korean drama that became popular was the Endless Love series: Autumn in My Heart and Winter Sonata. The melodrama gave the Filipino audience something to look forward to and gave a breath of fresh air to noontime dramas. These two were proclaimed the Pioneer of KDramas in the Philippines and were widely known and watched by KDrama lovers ever since.

But why do Filipinos love Korean Dramas?

Professor Erik Paolo Capistrano from the University of the Philippines Diliman told ABS CBN in an interview that the success of these dramas is due to the ingenuity of Korean entertainment and also due to the large fan base of the actors. When it comes to Korean dramas, the production is more concentrated on the chemistry of the characters. They don't base the drama on a loveteam, which is a bit different when it comes to Filipino dramas. They are also not afraid to produce a storyline based on taboos. It has a refreshing take on different genres and knows how to deliver it to the audience.

One difference between Korean dramas and our local dramas is the length of the show. The most common number of episodes are 16; sometimes it can go up to 20. In our case, it's infinite, as long as the ratings are high. This is not the case with KDramas. Whether or not the show received high ratings, it will end on the 16th episode. The drama can perfectly execute the plot, including some twists, in a manner of 16 episodes.

The storyline depends on the different genres KDramas are known for, romantic comedy, melodrama and even thrillers. Nowadays, most of the dramas have a lot of plot twists, unlike before in the early 2000s, wherein there's this usual boy meets girl, where the girl is poor while the boy is the son of the president of the company. The writers are also not afraid of tackling social issues such as bullying, mental health, gender inequality, racism, etc. One KDrama element that Filipinos love is the OST. A KDrama can be remembered when its OST is played and vice versa. These songs not only add beauty in the drama, but it can help the actors in portraying the emotions in a scene.

The rise of KDrama contributed to the exposure of Korean culture in the country. The experts call this the Hallyu wave; not only in the Philippines but in the whole world. Fashion, beauty, skin care, music and food are widely known by everyone and it's now looked forward to in malls and restaurants. Before, only specific places had Korean imports, but now, there’s a lot of Korean restaurants and groceries in the metro. This only shows that Korean products have their own market here in the country.

Even though KDramas are very much enjoyed, critics will always have something to say. Direk Erik Matti stated that these dramas are just like modern day fairy tales and the actors are “bellofied”. However, Direk Joey Reyes states otherwise. Filipino dramas trail behind the other because of its predictable plots and usual conflicts in the storyline.

Dramas are made to entertain its audience. The production team works more than 12 hours a day to make sure that everyone will enjoy the show and the story will be executed properly. Korean entertainment only aims to provide its audience quality dramas that help them to escape reality for even just an hour.

Bunch of Susie n’ Alice Angel Headcanons

Long overdue on these, but better late than never, right?

Pre-Ink Machine headcanons are Susie only, post-Ink Machine are Alice with Susie included.

Pre-Ink Machine

28 at the time of her recordings.

Grew up in Arkansas, then moved to New York both to enjoy suburban life and to find career opportunities.

Her favorite food was honeydew melons.

She was originally planning on just being a singer, and she preformed at lots of various bars after moving. It wasn’t until she was hired to do a quick jingle and some voice over work for a commercial that she realized that voice acting might be her true calling.

(She did still enjoy singing however, and she particularly liked voicing Alice because she could do both. Sammy had been pushing her towards a sole music career like she originally intended, though she wasn’t sure if she still wanted to go that route.)

She had a much wider range than one would really expect, and could also hide her accent if the role demanded it.

She was bi. While she hid it for the sake of her career while working, she was quite well known in queer circles.

She had two girlfriends in the past. The first relationship was a bit messy, but she stayed friends with her former second partner.

She was rather attracted to Sammy, but she never made any romantic suggestions as he was seeing someone at the time. After a while those feelings dulled and she ended up dating Joey after a few very nice romantic outings.

She and Joey kept their relationship on the down-low, but word still got around the studio, Reactions tended to range from feeling that she was just using him to get job security and pay raises to thinking that she could do way better.

While she did legitimately love Joey at the time, he loved her more in the way one loves a new possession rather than the same romantic love Susie felt. Susie never really picked up on this until it was too late (not helped by the fact that Joey was 8 years her senior at the time, making it easy for him to manipulate her without her really realizing what was going on).

Got lost in the studio on her first day. Wally found her on Floor 14 twenty minutes after she was supposed to show up for a recording and had to show her the way back up to the music department.

Had black hair and was a bit on the chubby side.

Also had cute little dimples that only showed up when she smiled.

Usually wore patterned dresses with bows. Sometimes she’d accessorize it with a matching hat if appropriate, usually when she was outside.

(She didn’t really care for the whole Flapper movement however, finding it over-the-top and tasteless.)

Probably one of the nicest people in the studio. There’s really no one there she hated, and no one there disliked her to any strong degree either.

(Except for Allison. Susie did not like Allison. Allison wasn’t actually a bad person, and wouldn’t have taken the role if she knew how much it meant to her, but Susie didn’t know that.)

She and Norman also typically avoided each other, as they were both from the South during the segregation era. Susie’s parents were rich white people who probably would’ve owned slaves if they needed them while Norman’s parents actually were slaves, so that made things more than a little uncomfortable for both of them.

After Susie lost the role of Alice Norman accidentally walked in on her crying, and when he asked her if she was okay she unexpectedly started sobbing into his chest. After a brief moment of surprise he gave her a hug, and while she ran off pretty quickly afterward, she started regarding him as a friend after that point - even after Alice found out what happened to him.

Ironically, she had a pretty severe fear of heights. (Alice, however, does not.)

She rented board from a nice older lady, and was roommates with another girl around her age who quickly became close friends. Said roommate was one of the first people to report her missing.

Post Ink Machine

When she was created the second time, Alice and Susie were separate, but instead of fighting they were scared, confused, and exited together.

It wasn’t until Joey started reminding her that she wasn’t perfect that Alice started to turn against Susie, realizing that she was the reason she wasn’t correct.

In turn, Susie pushed back against Alice, realizing that she wasn’t actually the sweet and innocent cartoon character she loved.

The way their dichotomy works is that one consciousness is in control at any given time, and they dictate their speech and actions. The other consciousness is aware of everything (it feels a bit hazy, like a very intense dream), but cannot do anything of their own will until they regain control.

The one in control is aware of the other’s emotions and thoughts. Sometimes these are vivid enough to be a second set of thoughts, while other times they’re more of a nagging feeling in the back of their mind.

Switching control usually happens seamlessly and automatically, with one mind smoothly "waking up” and nudging the other back.

This switch can often (though not always) be triggered by moments of intense emotion, as this is when the mind is less focused.

Susie’s consciousness is due to her soul being present; Alice’s is her actual mind.

There are times when they share the exact same thoughts, which is when both of their voices sync up and they share control of their body as if they were one mind. This usually only lasts a few moments at best, though it was more common when she was first created.

While Alice is appreciative of Susie “donating“ her soul to make her, she considers her presence a nuisance. This is mostly due to Susie’s refusal to do what they need to stay alive, which oftentimes can hinder an attempt at gaining organs or ink.

Susie wants to die properly and pass on, but she knows that’s not possible. She doesn’t want to return to the puddles, but she also doesn’t want to hurt anyone else to keep her body in tact, so she ends up dong nothing. She would’ve already fallen apart if it weren’t for Alice’s “hard work.”

Susie hates the fact that half the time the voice coming out of her body isn’t actually her voice.

Sometimes she’ll accidentally slip and start speaking in her high-pitched Alice voice when she’s in control. Alice hates that.

Alice spends her time doing everything she can to help make herself perfect and keep herself safe - killing off other cartoons that are a threat, gathering organs and ink, etc.

One thing Susie and Alice do share in common is that they both enjoy singing, especially the tunes that Alice performed in the cartoon. Sometimes if you’re lucky you can hear her when she’s having a (relatively) good day.

The Perfect Boris kind of scares Susie. She can barely stand being with Alice - the thought of her becoming Alice to the point where there’s nothing else left is absolutely terrifying to her.

She does feel a lot of sympathy for him, and has on occasion tried to speak to Boris’ host when she was in control. Unfortunately, she never did get a response.

She has sort of an alliance with the Projectionist - he’ll mindlessly kill anything in his light and leave the body where it lies. Alice will then travel down and harvest parts from the corpses, which is much safer than trying to kill things herself. In a weird way, she still considers him a friend - but he’s still a threat, so she’s not going to complain if Henry kills him either.

Alice is way stronger and way faster than you’d expect her to be.

Despite this, she’s very careful about who and what she attacks. She usually prefers sneak attacks and won’t even attempt to fight anything that she feels could outmatch her, as any given attack could send her back to the puddles.

Susie oftentimes listens to (non-Alice-or-Joey related) recordings she made back in the day when she’s in control. They help remind her of happier times.

Alice has, on more than one occasion, regained control while she was listening, only to throw the tape into the ink to ruin it. As far as she’s concerned, those days are long gone, and she needs to focus on being the perfect Alice.

Susie thinks about Heaven a lot when she’s not in control, fantasizing about cutting off her horns and gaining beautiful white wings instead. Of course she knows that’s never going to happen because she’s a damned soul, meaning those thoughts only serve to make her more miserable - yet she can’t stop obsessing over the idea.

Even though it doesn’t seem like it, Alice basically lives in constant fear - of the other cartoons, of the puddles, and, of course, of Bendy.
