is this a safe space to admit i really like taylor’s style and she’s actually my favorite celebrity in that regard just because she almost always looks good even if the clothes aren’t super avant-garde?

TMI Tuesday
I'm still here, kicking and screaming - and counting the days (count them, 13 working days) until Winter Break.
Here are some thing that have been on my radar, to relative degrees this week:
An upcoming reboot of prompts for A Monthly Rumbelling. Stargate Atlantis Rumbelle Secret Santa Grammar - Relative pronouns/relative clauses.
A Monthly Rumbelling: The astute and observant of you may have noticed that I haven't posted new prompts for AMR for a while now. Not for want of doing so, but - brutal truth moment - only ONE person (rumplesrose) was posting anything regularly, just as the year or so before, @peacehopeandrats was practically keeping the site alive, and when their account went away, and time became a premium for me, something had to give. Sadly that was one of the casualties, and you know what...? No one even voiced a concern either.
Now, I know that fandoms have slowed down, and especially older fandoms like Rumbelle, but that was disappointing. However, I refuse to give up on Rumbelle as long as even ONE person is still writing for the fandom, and I know there are folks out there that are, I will provide prompts, and so - with December - AMR will reboot.
Stargate Atlantis: When the show was still on air, and because I knew I wouldn't like what they did with certain characters in what turned out to be their final season, I set out to write my own season 5, and for years the resulting fics sat, first on a fic website that shall not be named, and then a personal website. Now I've started the mammoth endeavor to post them to AO3.
The other day I posted the first part of the second 'episode' - Chain of Command. Feel free to ask about that fic, episode 1 (Harm's Way), the series, or anything you want to know about it.
Rumbelle Secret Santa: We are in the writing period of this fandom event. I can't wait until the reveal stage where the whole fandom will benefit from the glorious gift of new Rumbelle fics. If you're participating, don't forget to enable anonymous asks, so that your Santa can contact you, and please remember to answer your Santa's ask. They may be waiting on you before they start to write for you.
Grammar: Relative pronouns/clauses: No, honestly, no link to this, (unless you really, really want one). It's just what we were teaching in class today. It does bring to mind a recent writing question though, and turning TMI Tuesday on its head, here is my question to you all: By what criteria do you categorize a fic?

how did you first hear about vtubing?
I remember in late 2019, hubby and I first started seeing "clips" and finding Youtubers that would fall under that category. Specifically we were watching skits and cover videos from HIMEHINA - which are a fun comedic duo.
I remember thinking their avatars were cool and starting to look into the concept - then as 2020 happened we started seeing an uptick in clips from others such as Coco and Pekora - that's basically when we started finding out about Hololive talents.
I heard about VRoid and downloaded it late January 2020, early February I started playing with it a little bit and made my first pink haired character based on an OC of mine. But I still had a l o t to learn! Back there there was barely any tutorials but I finally came across one that taught hair, and I made my first avatar off my Ragnarok Mobile character. In fact I'll attach a never-before-seen clip of my "OG face tracking tests" which is dated from April 4, 2020 - and yeah it's just as cursed as you can imagine. Dat OG VRoid Texture life as well! (And I'll also keep rambling!)
So I started making this Avatar cause I planned to stream the game, Ragnarok Mobile, in order to help explain some game concepts to my Guild. Even back then I was making in-guild guides for things, as the game could be rather confusing with some stuff. So I began streaming on Twitch, which I didn't stream at the start to take it seriously, I just wanted to teach my guild things. I had actually began setting up topics for a more "Lecture" type setting. This is from probably my first or second stream; just cut down.
youtube
So I wasn't really falling into Twitch/Vtuber culture to begin with, looking back on it now. I just figured I'd try out streaming - which probably 99% of people don't know - I had originally streamed back in 2016 after Twitch Creative started. I would go live and do IRL painting or inking - webcam and all! But due to life things, I had dropped streaming in that time.
So picking up VTubing was a way for me to "stream again" while we are in a tiny apartment, and Hubby doesn't want to be a part of the stream. We could stay more anonymous and just work with that. Didn't have to find green screens and all of that!
After a few weekly streams, and then with the lockdowns, we had nothing better to do so I was streaming more. I eventually hit affiliate and by the time summer started, I wanted to try more variety streaming. I began forming another OC to work with - based slightly off a different OC from a story I had ongoing with my doll OCs at the time - and worked off that. I didn't want to stream as my ROM "game character" and do other games. It just irked me.
And so, "Nesi Moonheart" was born!
Tumblr media
I rebranded the channel and did more variety, and tried to "fit in" the vtuber spaces more-so than before. This was around June/July 2020.
But this was how I first heard of VTubing and getting into it - I have always really enjoyed the tech side and have tried a ton of things over the years since. I always love new redeems/stream tech, or ways to work with the 3D models, or changing clothing etc.
I think I may have gone off on a tangent, but this is just how it be LOL
I hope this answered the question though! Feel free to follow up with anymore

So, are you new to Watcher?
Whether you just discovered the dudes from Buzzfeed Unsolved premiered a new ghost hunting show or you stumbled across Ghost Files without having ever seen Ryan and Shane before, perhaps you find yourself a bit lost regarding Watcher.
So here I present a not-quite-short (yet I hope comprehensive) guide to Watcher Entertainment!
What is Watcher?
Tumblr media
Back in 2019, three ex-BuzzFeed employees (Ryan Bergara and Shane Madej from BuzzFeed Unsolved and Steven Lim from Worth It) joined forces and announced they were launching a new production company and YouTube channel called Watcher. They toiled at it for an entire year and their new channel premiered on January 10th, 2020 with seven shows, the first of which was Puppet History (but more on the shows later).
youtube
They started with a grand total of five employees: the three cofounders, Brittney Lee (Production Supervisor) and Anthony Frederick (Creative Director of Post Production). Now, Team Watcher has grown to include several more people, including some ex-BuzzFeeders like Katie LeBlanc (who used to produce BFU and Worth It, today is Head of Development at Watcher), Annie Jeong (who you may know from Worth It and the Berry Boys video featuring Ryan and Shane, now a Senior Creative Producer) and Mark Celestino (cameraman for BFU, now Senior Creative Producer at Watcher).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Currently, Watcher presents a new episode of whichever show it's currently in season (right now it's Ghost Files of course) every Friday at 12 PT. Between shows, or sometimes on Wednesdays, they might air One-Offs, which are smaller, well, one off videos. Over at their Patreon you can find more content including:
Early Thursday access for Friday videos
Watcher Weekly+, a weekly talk show featuring any combination of cofounders and/or Watcher crew, where they answer fan questions and sometimes open fan mail. NOTE: for a taste of these, you can refer to their now-extinct Watcher Weekly show, formerly airing on Wednesdays over at YouTube dot com.
For higher tiers, a monthly livestream also featuring any combination of cofounders where they shoot the shit for an entire hour
Also for higher tiers, audio commentaries for select episodes
And for the highest tier, Discord AMAs with different members of Team Watcher.
Onto the shows:
Watcher has many shows. A whole lot of them. Ryan, Steven and Shane are very creative guys and it shows. When they first started, they began with a new episode of a different show every week, which was for some people very confusing. They've settled into airing whole seasons now, so after we're done with the premiere season of Ghost Files, we'll move onto a new season of Puppet History and then onto another show.
Because it's so many shows, I'll only describe the ones that are still being produced, along with the shows that premiered for the first time in 2022, in chronological order.
Puppet History
youtube
Helmed by Shane Madej, this was the first show that appeared on Watcher and the host, a puppet named The Professor (played by Shane) has become the de facto mascot of Watcher. If you liked the Hot Daga and Ruining History, this is essentially its spiritual successor. Here, The Professor leads Ryan and a different guest through a journey of a wacky historical event, while they compete to see who will become History Master. The lore gets really deep.
Top 5 Beatdown
youtube
A Ryan Bergara concoction, Shane and Ryan debate asinine topics ranging from the hottest Disney cartoon characters to top dog breeds, comparing top 5 lists and often fighting about it. When they do not fight, the duo showcases their one shared braincell. In every episode, they have a guest who knows more about the topic than them.
Are You Scared?
youtube
Also created by Ryan Bergara, Are You Scared? began as a Zoom show and evolved to being shot in person after pandemic restrictions eased. Ryan tells Shane one of the spookiest stories from the internet, and they both laugh over it. In a way, the format is similar to Unsolved, and the promotion campaigns for it are hilarious: once, Ryan pretended he'd been kidnapped by The Professor and made an entire photo shoot about it.
Too Many Spirits
youtube
From the galaxy brain of Katie LeBlanc, this was the first show shot in person during the pandemic, and also the only Friday show to feature all three co-founders. Ryan and Shane gather in a backyard to read ghost stories submitted by fans, but they get drunker and drunker every episode. They start off very normal, but by the fourth and last episode of each season, they are absolutely unhinged. By the way, the drinks? Handmade by Steven Lim himself, who turns out, is a (not) wonderful bartender. In the most recent seasons, we get an actual professional bartender, Ricky Wang, who has a very special working relationship with Steven.
Dish Granted
youtube
Created by and for the suffering of Steven Lim, Dish Granted is about love and food and friends. In each episode, Steven sets out to grant a friend of his their dream dish, even if it costs Steven his own sanity. Currently, the episode with Simu Liu holds the honor of being the Watcher video with most views. I love it, and you should too.
Worth a Shot
youtube
In each episode of this show hosted by Ricky Wang (of Too Many Spirits fame), he creates a special cocktail for a different guest. Ricky definitely knows what he is doing, and so, this show has a very soothing quality to it.
Eat Like Me
youtube
Also made by Steven Lim. Join Steven as he learns more about different cultures and/or lifestyles as he eats for one day as someone else. In the pilot season, he discovered the joys of the diet of a Korean college student, the woes of British people, and the pain of a professional eating competitor.
Pretty Historic
youtube
Created by Selorm Kploanyi and directed by none other than Sara Rubin, Pretty Historic looks at history from another point of view: beauty and makeup. It is an incredibly pretty show, the aesthetics are top notch, and it dives into really interesting subjects. I am begging for y'all to watch this.
Ghost Files
youtube
Finally, Ghost Files doesn't really need an introduction. Ryan Bergara's baby, the official successor to BuzzFeed Unsolved, and in the words of Shane Madej (to which I subscribe wholeheartedly), the perfect ghost hunting show. Only an episode and it's corresponding Debrief have been released until now, but it's so good. So different from BFU in a much, much better way, while still feeling incredibly familiar. Wow. The Ghoul Boys have done it for real.
Tumblr media
However, Watcher has a vast catalogue with even more shows than those, plus all of their one-offs. My personal favorites and recommendations to you are Weird and/or Wonderful World (with Shane and Ryan) and Homemade (hosted by Steven). Homemade particularly feels like a work of art that I don't feel gets appreciated as much as it should.
Also, I greatly recommend watching Ryan and Shane Eat Everything Boysenberry (Again): Bless Annie for doing this for us. Berry Boys 2, once again taking off at Knott's Berry Farm.
So where can I keep up with Watcher?
If you aren't following them in at least one of their social media accounts, you might want to do that:
Their YouTube official channel
Tumblr
Twitter
Instagram
TikTok
Patreon
Finally!
These are the bare essentials to getting into Watcher, but I hope it's useful to at least one person. If you have any questions, ask away! Imo, the fandom is incredibly nice and would love to help any newbie find their way through.

source: Pierre Gasly's Reddit AMA 2020 (youtube) "It goes back to a long time ago when we were kids, like, nine, ten years old. We would go to holidays together and spend more time. I don't know. It just came, like one day we decided to call each other calamar, which is not really [chuckles] such a beautiful nickname but, yeah, it was just for fun. We were kids and we were laughing. And actually, we have many other nicknames because we were teammates also in karting and we spent a lot, a lot of time together. So, a lot of nicknames came alongside all this time. And this kind of stayed with us."

Also I want to talk about this and how it’s such a quiet marker of not only their characters growth. But healing from their own abuse.
Tumblr media
Because back during the Reddit AMA in 2020. Dana had said they weren’t that particularly close because they were both trying to use the other to get something if I remember right
(Which idk on how that particularly worked with the Lilith to Amity side. Best guess is something with Odalia and the eventual Abomatrons?)
Which was definitely a byproduct Odalias abuse of Amity. Making her think everything needed to be about proving herself.
And Lilith trying I’m guessing to best serve Belos. Or a higher power. A reoccuring issue throughout the shows run.
Because once they finally started healing. Finally got away from their bad situations. They finally got a chance by appearances sake to have a close relationship. Because they were no longer looking to get soemthing out of it
But just have someone to be close to. And possibly gained an actual sorta mentor - student relationship once the toxicity finally dropped away.

Please I just watched The Lion In Winter (1968) and kept thinking throughout it “this is a film wellntruly will have opinions on” so if you do please share!!! 🙏
I have in fact never seen The Lion In Winter (1968). But it does still mean something to me, as when a former coworker of mine, prim & proper married mother of three, who had no idea I lived in that apartment complex, began and then continued to carry on an affair with my trench coat & fedora wearing next door neighbor for the entire year of Covid lockdown, AMA, I finally, finally figured out how they could even have known each other during one of the times they were sitting outside his door just feet from my open window talking on the abandoned kitchen chairs he had taken from beside the dumpster, and I heard enough identifying information about the micro-budget vampire movie he'd made with his friends several years earlier to find said vampire movie, and his full name, and his Instagram, to at last discover that they had met rehearsing a community theater production of: The Lion In Winter, which had been scheduled to open on March 19, 2020. They were playing the characters that are carrying on the affair.
