hi!! this is kinda a weird question but ur post about characterization for french ccs is rlly helpful for writing, so i was wondering if u had any like . tips or advice about speaking patterns or like. common terms or phrases they use and stuff like that. i have a lot of issues with auditory processing and other hearing stuff that makes it like . hard for me to always understand speech patterns or just like . what people are actually saying so if u have any like . advice or info about like How They Talk that u could put in text or like specific that would be cool. no worries if u dont/cant btw i completely get it i just remembered that u were the one w the previous helpful post ::D

Yeah, no problem I could try ! :D Now keep in mind again I'm not necessarily an expert, and I'm just doing this because it's fun. I still might make some mistakes, and miss some important details, but 'Ill do my best. SO

Let's go for HOW DO THE FRENCH (and swiss) CCS TALK :

Let's start with

ETOILES : So I feel like it might be the easiest because he's the clearest to me. He tends to speak at a normal space and in english with a noticeable slighly french accent, but not an extreme one. He likes to crack jokes constantly when he speaks with other people (most of the time hyping up others, and self deprecating, you know the "You are a legend, I am dumb".) . He can drop pearls of wisdom randomly through ridiculous metaphors ("You don't need to worry, My name means stars, that means that when you look I'm here." "It's like crossing the road, you have to, and there is cars, you need to be careful, but it can't be all you focus on. Wait I'm not sure about that one...") and sometimes actually genuine and inspiring, but more often that not in the tone of discussion, it doesn't sound like he's dispensing "wisdom of the elders", he's just a humble guy talking with you and giving a random advice. He often says in french "Wow a flop" when something doesn't work. Or "c.s.c." (Contre Con Camp, a football term meaning scoring against your own team) when he comments on someone being a tryhard for example ("WOW such a tryhard (csc)"). He'll often makes the joke that nobody likes him when they don't answer in chat to himself, (or chat) and will directly tell them "You want me to die irl don't you?" ensues a myriad of "holy shit you want me to die for real" answered by the "NOO" of the other one. Two last details that came to me, he rarely actually answers by "no" or "yes", he often use "Yeh yeh yeh", or "no no no". He also uses a lot of "euuuuh..." when looking for his words when speaking.

AYPIERRE : He is fairly simple too. He has a very relaxed tone, speaks slightly slower than most people, and has slightly noticeable french accent but less so than others. His tone differenciate between three states : Focused (while building or infiltrating a base), relaxed, and humourous. Note that he's never fully serious, he has that constant gremlin energy and smile that makes him want to make jokes that will make everybody cringe (his favorite pastime.) The only time he's been serious and slightly upset was when he earned gegg died or when he learned that the federation was trying to replicate his wine (there you can see his priorities). Most of the time people are assuming the worst when it's his countless time he starts a conversation with "So, I did something..." and is the type of guy to say "*known illegal act* is a strong word, let's say it's more like *not necessarily better*". I don't follow him as much, so I currently have no other mannerism in mind.

BAGHERA : I feel like she is a bit harder to pin down. When speaking in english she has a very noticeable accent, especially when she is tired. And talks a bit fast, especially in french. Though she doesn't crack jokes constantly, she has a constant chaotic energy that makes her say random things at times. She often say "Oh Yeaaaah" when she is happy or hyped about something, mostly when she is with other people to show them she is happy too. When she is ashamed or not understanding something she likes to take a voice we call the "Antoine Croute" voice (a character she played in a Rp series on GTA V), it's high pitched and really shy. (imagine a little "wut... ?"). She can be really serious, especially when investigating. She almost nver express vocally, in tone at least, her anger. Instead she sounds incredibly cold, like she was with ElQuackity. Her voice when serious drops a bit, and she speaks a bit faster. There is probably plenty more but I'm starting to get tired.

ANTOINE : He is the hardest to me because it is even hard to pin down in french. He has most of the time a very serious tone, while he ironically constantly making either dark jokes based on irony and cynism OR a pun. Because of this, it's sometimes hard to pin what's a joke and what's serious. His accent alternates between horrible french accent OR almost ProPeR eNgliSH. Even when discussing absolutely batshit insane things he sounds serious (he is not in reality, but it's a form of humor in itself). OCCASIONALLY he'll break and cracks a smile, and sometimes, even the heartiest laugh you've ever heard, a very vocal and deep "AHAHAHAHA" that you can hear a mile away (but it happens rarely.) Though I didn't specify, most people, including the french, stutter at least a little bit, and search their words, (like I said for Etoiles' "euh".) but Antoine tends to have a very clear speech, only occasionally looking for a translation. In the same vein, he also has a very quick reaction and can answer with a pun almost instantly (very impressive, especially when it's not his native language.)

That's pretty much all I can think of right now, and I'm tired. Maybe it's not exactly what you asked, but it's what I can muster. Hopes that helped :D

the forst thing i thought of while reading this is that there are two types of best friends reacting to their bestie's break-up: the one thats all "omg bae im so sorry!! do you need to talk? lets watch some movies and ill get all the ice cream and you tell me everything" and then "ok... any suggestions for what we'll do with the dead body?" out of these, cedric's fr the first one.

as a best friend, cedric 100% will point and laugh at people you dont like, and will undoubtedly stand up for you and ur presence if you aren't there.

and he will buy you Christmas gifts (if u celebrate) and will spoil u on ur birthday

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

he loves spooning (specifically him as little spoon but he dgaf if u dgaf) and will 100% fall asleep with you. cedric, for one, lovesss being in between your legs (hey now 🤨📸) with his head on your stomach and he's just all wrapped up in you omg it makes him so happy and warm and sleepy omg hes soft

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

at some point, yeah. cedric wants to settle down. he knows, though, that thats not always in the cards and is willing to do whatever for your love.

HOLY NART CEDRIC DIGGORY IS AN AMAZING CHEF D O N T TRY TO CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE. ok so imagine: after graduation, probably a week or so into life without school, you're still unconscious from a busy night of doing whatever you were doing. now its getting later in the morning, the sun is rising farther, and your body is ready for food. cocooning yourself in an old hogwarts blanket, you start making your way to the kitchen of the apartment you're sharing with cedric. you find him mid-flip of a scrambled egg. he's wearing a pairbof light grey sweatpants, and the sun shining beautifully on his bare chest. not to brag, but cedric was definitely muscular from quidditch. he looks up, soft eyes visibly lighting up seeing you. he smiles sweetly as you basically waddle to him. taking you in his arms, he presses a kiss to your forehead and goes back to the egg.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

genuinely, cedric does want the best for you, so he takes comfort in knowing this would be good for you if breaking-up was necessary. he won't pussy out, don't worry. cedric also believes in communication, so he'll make dinner or whatever and then he'll sit down with you and just say it as it is with as little sugar-coating as possible. he cares about your feelings, so he wouldn't be mean about it. he'd assure you that if, at any point, you needed him, he would always be there for you.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

mans ong wants to get married (when he knows ur the one). he wouldn't wait years unless he felt the need to, but wouldn't rush right into it.

when the time comes, he'll introduce you to his family, and obviously his dad would like you because theres literally no reason not to. he would buy a ring without you knowing, and would definitely take you somewhere. if you proposed to him, holy shit he'd probably start crying. if you made a speech? sobbing. he's kinda emotional, and is not afraid to cry about the big stuff. happy tears streaming down his face hed probably make tf out with you right then and there.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they physically?)

he a softie, i think we know now. physically omg would be so tender and sweet with you unless you want him to be ;) (im sorry omg im sleep deprived)

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

no, honestly, he'd probably bring it up into a conversation and then just steamroll right by it. he wants you to know he does love you but he doesn't want to be overbearing and scare you away

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

cedric does kinda get jealous, but damn he won't tell you. it's kinda obvious, though, when he is jealous. he'll be glaring and everything at whoever your talking to/about and kinda just wallow in his anger like "merlin man dzont they're with me >:(((((" when you come by and stand by him and kiss him or hold his hand, he does get happy and look down to keep anyone from seeing his smile

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

depends of the mood

during hogwarts and he just got out of a rough class or its been a long day or whatever, he'll kiss you with those soft lips of his, gently tugging your bottom lip with his teeth.

if you're both at home and just woke up its just a soft little kiss on the lips, lingering slightly

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

literally so sweet omfg 😣❤

as a prefect, he's got some experience with kids (specifically 11 and 12 year olds) if you both decided you wanted kids, adopted or not, he's definitely be so sweet but sometimes you might have to remind him that he needs to be especially firm with some kids just because they may need it.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

slow and sweet, most days. he'll make breakfast (most days) at some point unless hes asleep or sick. if you shower in the morning, he'll make sure you have a cup of tea or coffee or cocoa waiting for you when you're done

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

he loooovvveeessss cuddling okay? he'll do anything you want, watching movies, play games and the like

though cedric loves movie nights, he loves the moments when the movie is paused, and you're doing whatever it is you're doing (petting ur dog or cat, re-placing a blanket, scurrying out of the room for some reason) he loves those. it makes him feel safe knowing he's with you in your home, with your personal stuff, being happy and cute

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

as friends, you'd obviously know the basics: fave color, fave drink, eye color, yada yada yada.

cedric diggory trusts pretty easily (when dating) and will tell you things you probably never thought to ask. personal things that he holds so close to his heart, sometimes he forgets those things are even there.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

it certainly takes a little bit to get him upset

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

cedric takes pride in knowing he's yours and you're his, so yeah, he knows details about you almost no one else really knows. hell, he'd probably even remember your gramma's birthday (if you guys were/are close)

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

waking up with you for the first time. seeing you asleep made him swell with warmth. he knew you had a hard time trusting, so you being vulnerable around him made him super mega ridiculously happy

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

he trusts you. he knows you know that there's a line between being nice and being a little too nice, so he doesn't get too jealous. in any case, a part of him is worried you'd find someone 'better' than him

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts?)

cedric loves dates. cute little outings where you guys can go do that cute couple shit and just bask in each other.

(haitham is rlly into kaveh but not only bc of his strength but bc of his very being)

kaveh is quite interested in haitham from the beginning already since hes not used to this kind of ppl and they end up debating and bickering a lot (which both secretly enjoy since ppl cant keep up with him (haitham) or ppl generally dont dare bc theyre intimidated or too fond (kaveh))

(kaveh also enjoys the way haithams eyes seem to glint when he goes "oh?" before he starts spouting all his smart things)

(haitham is positively surprised and thrilled that kaveh can easily keep up, as if theyre both scholars)

haitham is incredibly smart, more so than other scholars kaveh had met or got hired by, but unlike those haitham doesnt boast with his intelligence or tries to put kaveh down for being "a mere eremite who doesnt know a thing unlike a scholar hailing from the akademiya", like some of the more rude scholars had said - haitham listens and answers to his thoughts and arguments all patiently, really listens to him

haitham speaks in facts and constantly questions things, no shame in correcting or exposing others very bluntly to get to the truth but the smart things coming from his mouth are not to prove or rub it in that hes intelligent or wise or always right and superior or anything; no sign of arrogance or haughtiness. he simply states things as they are, this is the way he simply is and kaveh already guesses haithams confidence in himself is easily mistaken with arrogance by people who dont know him well or are not looking deeply, thus feeling inferior to him and accusing him of being arrogant and acting like hes above everyone

so apart of that, haitham speaking all factual and straight to the point (its very cute when he pauses at seeing paimons confused face and starts rephrasing in the middle of his speech so even she can understand) and treating him like an equal, it rlly comes down to it when he sees another side of this man

(before i take away too much from the comic im doodling rn, i cant talk too much about it KJABCSKJ but the accident that killed kavehs father and left him in the desert made him develop a fear of falls and dark places; bc of smth happening he got a panic attack and haitham eases him through it with such love and care and patience that kaveh isnt used to and it makes him feel so much. kaveh is strong and doesnt like to be treated like hes weak or stupid or in need of someones care and protection but haitham doesnt treat him like that, haitham knows how strong and sharp he is and doesnt take this away when hes this vulnerable. kaveh (who always cares and protects others) is on the receiving of such care and protection after all these years of not allowing it, and coming from this seemingly stoic scholar....

basically, when kaveh sees haitham treat him with respect and care, like an equal on all levels, and returns this care and protection in his own way, it fills him with warmth and the need to get closer to him to share this warmth with him, to get more of it

(also ofc shortly after that kaveh gets to see haitham slaughter his way through enemies to get them out and the sight of him covered in blood and not only being sharp and quick with his words and mind but also with his sword and body triggers some feral part in his brain that wants haithams clothes gone so theres that, his nerd is not only sharp and clever and confident and pretty and a secret caring softie but also able to fight, feeble scholar his ass)

okay so. skirk thoughts

first of all: as much as her design is still just kind of an ehhh compared to what couldve been, i do think it looks so much better in the actual game. the sfx in her arms and legs in particular helps a Lot imo. still not a massive fan but given i already loved the hair+eyes as well as the general color scheme, im warming up to it. still unfortunate we didnt get something more ambitious but i can live with this lmao

personality wise i actually really love how they went about her? its a little unexpected but skirk really has that abyss autism rizz to her JSJSIDISGFK love it. like this really isnt someone used to any manner of regular human interactions and it shows. i really like how blunt and utterly unfazed she is even when dropping some insane lore bombs bc theyre just peanuts to her. shes just completely unlike any character from any faction weve encountered before and i rly love the energy they gave her

i also found her little ramble about the value of life and death pretty interesting. it almost makes it sound like she considers herself dead in some way? with how she talks about there being no point in holding onto the bonds and remains of dead things and how this personal philosophy of hers is why she never comes to the surface anymore. like huh. whats up with that.

it also really reminds me of how an underappreciated aspect of childes characterization imo is how like. Incredibly insistent he is on staying alive being the most valuable thing? like this comes up Repeatedly in his voicelines. and now we have skirk literally talking about how to live is in itself a blessing. like i am Not buying this being coincidental at all. so unless they physically disprove me in this somehow down the line im taking this as 100% proof that childes high regard for life is Directly imparted to him through skirks teachings. and thats really interesting to think about.

and like. overall im quite happy with this glimpse of her character we have? i have bigger issues with the overall handling of the childe+narwhal+skirk segment of the AQ but those are narrative problems. skirk really stands out as a character and shes just. really fascinating AND funny as fuck in her nonchalance like. what an icon.

the only real unfortunate thing w her appearence specifically i think just has to do with the way her manner of speech and position as a narrator of dubious reliability to an extent is already leading to some. Quite unfortunate misreadings and/or taking the implications of her statements too far at face value. and i just know fandom will latch onto those forever 😭

(& jic i dont mean dubious reliability in the traditional unreliable narrator or like. lying or sth sense. just that her worldview is so alien and foreign to us that it should be taken into careful account before just blindly running off with any particular thing she claims)

like. firstly. the narwhal. ppl really dont seem to be catching onto how skirks perception of it as just a scuffed pet thats a hassle to manage isnt like. actually reflective of what a massive deal of an entity it is (read the boss fight quest item drop lore i am begging. or just wait for me to start narwhalposting JAJSKDK its coming 100%) 💀💀 what it DOES reflect more than anything is what an absolute maniac surtalogi (+ skirk by extension) has to be in order to claim a creature of this magnitude as a PET of all things. its also good to note that skirk herself readily admits both her highly unconventional view on most things AND that her master wont necessarily share any and all information with her - more so what he thinks is pertinent for her to know. her assessment of the narwhal as a nuisance of a task for a disciple isnt really reflective of the ultimate big picture HSJDKDKSK though it is very funny i have to admit.

im just preemptively annoyed and frustrated by it already bc its highkey giving azhdaha all over again where 99% of fandom just dismissed his deeper lore bc they took the storytellers claims of zhongli creating him at complete face value. like to the point hoyo had to literally add a whole segment at the end of the chasm interlude where zhongli more or less directly wink wink nod nods that a career entertainer isnt giving you the most accurate lore on this stuff 😭😭 like please. ive had the tears from among the stars lore fucking HAUNTING me ever since i first read it. its not just a silly pet whale im hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

and secondly. people really jumping the gun on "haha skirk thinks childe weak" when she was... quite literally speaking in past tense JSJSKDKSISKDK thats ajax 14 not the current state of things. while i do agree skirks power level is still way above his to the point i absolutely do think she considers him weak from her standpoint & ways off from his true potential, id also just.... like to point out that she pretty much confirms that her view of his competence has very much changed too? like please yall

skirk, who in all the years post ajax' 3 day abyss trip made NO effort to contact or keep up with him whatsoever and stated that her disciple wasnt worth even speaking to in the past has now LITERALLY voiced the intent to assign him the task of being a messenger between herself (possibly even surtalogi) and neuvillette. and she has made it VERY clear that she views the communication between herself and neuvillette (and traveler too) as one between equals?

this isnt her assigning childe some irrelevant side quest to keep him busy but actually utilizing him for a task she takes at least relatively seriously. like wdym she still considers him the exact same as before 😭😭😭😭 like obviously childes far off from being regarded as anywhere near an equal by skirk bc SHES just that insanely powerful but seriously. to me this is as clear an acknowledgement of his growth on her part as we will get JSJSKDKFKSKDKJ

but alas. everyone loves a "ha ha childe so weak XDDDD" like they just never wanna let that one go. Man

anyway still rly like skirk!!! all im Really hoping for in the future Especially w how i feel the 4.2 narrative while overall brilliant really sidelined and mishandled the potential and gravity of the narwhal side of things is that like. PLEASE let the interlude be the continuation to this 3rd descender n skirk n childe abyss situation i am so fucking tired of khaenri'ah and the abyss order im sorry lmao

also itll be like 4 years before we ever see her in Real action as a combatant but i am already So hype to see that. especially since her powers are so abyssal and alien in nature like thats going to be So gourmet i just know it.

After I "screamed, cried and threw up" with how amazingly beautiful and healthy Jared looked during the live, I want to take a moment to comment on something deeper that I noticed about Jared and Gen through their conversations with authors lives.

As a former teacher, who spent 5 years studying for my degree and subsequently teaching for almost for almost a decade, I love how much they extrapolate the "constraints" of a book in their conversations.

I have seen a lot of conversations (and the general approach to books) in which people mention the events, place them in a timeline and superficially dab on characters intention in one or two parts/ moments in said books.

What I heard from Jared and Gen alongside those things was:

"Commonly we hear X but in your book you said y and it makes me think...."

"Moment X is relatable to people because...."

"You have this ability with your words to transport the reader to...."

"I connect with these character/ this moment...."

Dont get me wrong, retelling a story, placing occurrences on a timeline, infer intentions from a specific part of a speech are an important skills to have, however, stuff like this can be found on Cliff notes or a quick google search. But its basic and the bare minimum.

However, when one is reading a book and relating to it on a broad level/ strict level, gathering different perspectives on events and reflect upon them, they are creating new meanings and its something not everybody does or is capable too. It makes my teacher heart sing.

I also love how Jared "Sherlocks" the books. Every time I watch him in those conversations, he asks a question or makes a comment that makes authors go "Wow, I never thought of it like that" or "Nobody has asked me this question before".

And I think thats what people are in need of. More "sherlocking" skills, more critical thinking and expanding the "constraints".

More than ever, society needs people to be more thoughtful, reflective and critical cause the lack of these qualities is what landed us in this herd mentality and actual conjecture of loosing human rights.

There isn't one I can think of but writing a non-verbal Emperor is totally possible. He's a kid and as you said, the hope is that he will eventually speak. Because he's the last hope, they will do anything to get him to speak and people will try get him to speak through a lot of means: coerison, speech therapy and perhaps some unpleasant means. But if it becomes apparent he won't speak, they will have to focus on other strengths. You don't need a voice to make your will known. An Emperor can rule through other channels.

There were likely autistic rulers in history but we can't diagnose them for certain, of course. Rulers were generally accepted as they came as long as they could fulfil their role.

im writing an au that is supposed to include everyone in the dsmp. but i am a humble enjoyer and dont know about lots of characters, purpled included. can i get a guidebook to writing cpurpled? any tropes to avoid, motivations you see people getting wrong, etc?

okay so. purpled is Interesting bc there's a lot of depth to his character in the sense that he himself is not self-aware of his own actions/wants, making for there being three purpleds: the purpled that he shows to others, the purpled he feels he is, and the true purpled he himself isn't even fully aware of. and depending on how deep you wanna explore into his character, that third one likely won't even come into play, because that is more of an instance of a character study/purpled-centric piece, but i'll go over it anyways, just in case! splitting this into parts below the cut to make categorizing things a bit easier :]

first, the basics:

purpled has a very. unique way of talking. in serious moments, he's calm, collected, and intimidating, and will act like you'd expect a broody teenaged mercenary to. most of the time, though, his speech pattern is the world's most ungodly mixture of teenage boy and starving victorian orphan.

in fight or flight, he chooses fight 100% of the time, even if that fight is not immediate.

purpled only cares about a handful of things: self-preservation, his image, and money. this doesn't necessarily mean he won't do "good" things, just that his motives are less about saving people and more about advancing his own agenda. during the red banquet, for example, he only saved the attendants because he was paid to. eret called him a hero for it, but it was nothing more than a matter of who paid more. his morals are extremely skewed,

but he's not inherently malicious. he's indifferent. his actions are logical, not emotional, so despite harming others for his own gain, he typically holds no ill-will towards them. for example, the wiki cites that he and bad have a negative relationship for betraying the eggpire during the banquet, but in reality, purpled really doesn't see bad in anything but a neutral way. there are very few people he holds either positive or negative emotions towards, as his default state is indifferent, but willing to go along with the other person's emotions if they pay enough.

the only people he does feel a semblance of strong emotions towards are: hannah, boomer, ponk, tubbo, jack, and quackity. he has positive personal relationships with hannah, boomer, ponk, and tubbo, seeing them as genuine friends. additionally, ponk, tubbo, and jack are fellow businessmen, which he very much admires. quackity, of course, is the one person on the list he has overtly negative feelings towards, something that possibly extended towards slime after the ln finale, as well. he has an Odd relationship with tommy in the sense that they're somewhat rivals, but not in the usual fandom sense where "oh they secretly care about each other because they're sworn rivals". purpled would sell tommy to satan for a single cornchip and not even blink. there's also dogchamp, his dog, which is i think the one True attachment he's ever had on the server.

business is very important to him! purpled only really cares to talk to people who he sees on a similar intellectual level as him, and business is the closest way to his heart, as seen with his relationship with ponk.

anyone he doesn't see on his level is "lesser". this is specifically highlighted with his viewpoint on slime, as he sees slime as nothing but a child who can't fend for himself and has to rely on quackity for everything. this viewpoint is, obviously, extremely untrue, because purpled is an unreliable narrator in every sense of the word.

he's very smart and extremely capable. if he sets his mind to something, he Will accomplish it through any means necessary, even at the cost of others.

he is also. just sillie. at least around those he trusts or is pretending to allow to get close to him (like fundy in ln). he pulls stupid pranks for stupid prizes. he's just a boy that really loves his dog. he's the server's strongest warrior yet he runs screaming from boomer because they threatened to child-leash him. do not be afraid to make him a freak (because trust me he Is one)

some deeper stuff! all of these things are unspoken, and things he himself is not aware of. a dive into his subconscious thoughts, if you will. if you're writing something deeper with him, these are things i recommend alluding towards/highlighting, but in a sense that only the audience is aware of. they're not things that should be Explicitly Stated, at least not by him/his pov. purpled has little to no true self-awareness, and when he does have moments of introspection, he Still manages to fuck that up, which i'll be getting into

purpled does not really feel any negative emotions other than rage and spite. or, more accurately, he doesn't let himself feel anything other than rage or spite. when lamenting about his loneliness on the server, he immediately spins it into a revenge plot, believing it'll be solved as soon as he gets his just desserts. he does feel and process positive emotions, it's just negative ones he pushes aside for the sake of anger.

this is because, inherently, purpled does not believe he is in the wrong. ever. everything is always the fault of others, which is why he results to anger, because that's what happens when he pushes blame onto other people. he doesn't ever accept that his actions can be detrimental to himself, and that his issues are always the fault of others. for example, he believes that the reason his legacy on the server was "ruined" was because of quackity's intervention. while quackity's destruction of his ufo certainly didn't help, purpled's core issue was himself. his own self-isolation is what started the downfall of his legacy, and his continued isolation is what sealed its fate.

his inability to process his true emotions/wants makes him very prone to self-sabotage, although he believes the path he chooses is the right one. due to quackity's intervention, he believes that he wants a legacy to have power and to be remembered. when he laid out his issues, however, his biggest hang-up was that "if he asked people on the server to name three things about him, none of them could". deep down, what he wanted was a sense of connection, of building a legacy through the bonds formed with others, but he was unable to realize that.

he's so fucking stupid. all of this is me trying to say he's a fucking idiot. he has the emotional capacity of a pet rock with angry eyebrows drawn onto it. he's hypocritical and not even aware of it. i don't think he has the emotional ability to know what hypocrisy is.

the most important thing, though, is to not woobify him into the "manipulated minors" trope. purpled was not manipulated, and although his age plays into the tragedy of his character on a meta-level, it has no true importance to his actions/story. and although i gush about him a lot, and there are reasons to why he acts the way he does, he is not a good person. i can explain why he does what he does all i want, but at his core he is flawed and antagonistic. that's what makes him so good!! he is not a good person, he knows he's not a good person, and unless he's purposefully playing that role in order to deceive someone, he doesn't pretend to be one, and is up-front with others about that fact.

honestly i’ve recently been brainworming about how even though carmen’s colour is obviously red, in LC her speech box is blue??? both the memories of carmen and angela are just his interpretation of her… i love how on the surface its a hint for the player that they are connected but if you dig deeper it is one of the main reasons he failed w angela!! he only ever knew the version of carmen that existed in his own head, he could never replicate her in her entirety, angela is blue just like his carmen, but his carmen is flawed by design…….

SORRY IF I ANSWER LATE SINCE THIS ASK MAKE ME SIT DOWN AND THINK(TM) A BIT but here are my thoughts on them though it super long and super incoherent since I dont know how to necessary connect points smoothly

On the topic of color coding I actually did talk with my friends a lot on how Carmen's color or at least one that has big impression on Ayin or an indication to their relationship or connection are all red but I didn't know if I was reading too deep in it

For example:

• her eyes

•The red hairband that is said in the artbook to be a present from A

• Bloodbath

And to specifically talk about Bloodbath it is also how Angela offered the manager champagne which resembles the color of her eyes after one of your employee presumably died which is an obvious call back to that one specific passage in Bloodbath but the alcohol that was used in the past scenario was red wine which is the color of Carmen's eyes. I personally interpret this scene as Angela venting her own frustration and despair at the presumingly oblivious manager in the form of her mocking his own sad little story as well

That along with you can see how each sephirot and even including Angela has their own specific color coded letter box that fits their own respective theme while Carmen's is blue which like you said signify her connection to Carmen despite her character color theme have little to do with it and Ayin's color box is red despite his primary color being black and white (additionally I thinks that the way the characters are color coded in LC have to do with their association with respective sephirot in the tree of life in Kabbalah as well but I have not read many researches on this so I cant say for sure im qualified to speak on this topic)

And another thing of the fact that after Angela escaped from her role from lc in lor you actually don't get to see any red accessories or clothing pieces on main her design anymore being not only the red hair band is gone but also the red tie and the red shoes is also a very interesting detail to me and again as seen

I'm still warping my head around what this all mean in full extent and my personal contemplating have me agreeing it does play into Ayin and to an extent Angela's own perception of Carmen that heavily associated with their traumatic association with her seen by how most of the examples I given you here are all extremely emotionally distressing moments or sweet moment that turned distressing/become a bad symbol after bad trauma. Along side with calling to their side of characters that actually resemble and connect to her own. There are parallel to be drawn between Ayin Carmen Angela all together like you once said there are so much Carmen in Angela and Carmen in Ayin and Ayin in Angela and vice versa also literally this

Into the question of Ayin failed with Angela in like, if I understand your question right, is on his attempt to actually create an AI of Carmen out of nothing I personally think that no matter what kind of perception Ayin had of Carmen (though I do agree that it played a part in it) he would still end up with the same type of failed sentient AI because what stopping him from making said AI was not only his own comprehension of Carmen's character but also because he personally view the act itself as something inherently disgusting and morally reprehensible. Abram talking about the making of Sephirot which is the closest to an Angela's creation something only a sick twisted person would do in the main story and Ayin's monolog in Snow Queen saying that Carmen would have been disgusted by him knowing he would do this which indicate that he personally see the act itself as disgusting too. Despite him saying him feeling no guilt here player with full context of the game can immediately deduce like yeah, he was like actively lying to himself about the fact that he feels no guilt in the narration because the whole game is him lying making up scenario for himself in favor of an ultra realization for completion of Carmen's life dream and him being unsure and lying about everything he feels which I personally think would effect his decision in making Angela as well as literally everything he does

And in one QnA where the writer did straight up say that "Ayin simply couldnt and wouldn't make anything resemble Carmen" which can be interpret in a multitude of ways but at the same time PM have not been consistent with their lore answer in QnA in comparison to their plot development as well so take it with a pinch of salt as well. There are many reasons for Ayin to make Angela like That and I have my own personal interpretation of How Ayin Views Carmen personally since many things be affecting his view on her I agree with you but also don't know if you can pinpoint it as the Exact Main Reason to why he failed since not only was he flawed in perceiving Carmen he is flawed in being like, a Committed person along with him being actually very emotionally perceptive of people that he rather just look away from them for his own personal comfort by actively lying to himself about the reality in which he experience along with many other thing

nancy and will are doing a little better individually. because guess what: they have HOBBIES.(jon also does but he seems to have abandoned it. rip his i wanna take a pic era. and mike has d&d but in the between time between oh no wills gone and oh yay eddie my beloved, hes doing shit. and even w d&d his grades are still affected by his mental place and his rooms super messy so like. doing better but still not great.)

my current running theory is that the ice floes will interfere in phos's transformation in some way

i get that that sounds far-fetched, since i feel like the ice floes have kind of a comedic reputation (mainly because of baby phos's hijinks) but i really do think they're going to have an important role in the end of the story

especially with this ominous note in the lorebook

i went and compiled some manga panels that stood out to me,, i dont know if all of them are relevant to future chapters, but i figured it couldn't hurt to mention them

note: gonna contain spoilers for essentially all of the manga, specifically the end will talk about chapter 96 (it does have a little warning thingy though so... theres that)

gonna break chronological order real quick: i believe that kongo's brother has a connection to the ice floes.. i am not sure if they are the only entity controlling them, but i think that theyre at least a part of the floes.

the hnk wiki states this as fact, but the translation i read was very vague as to whether the ice floes referred to the humans that died in the impact, or if it meant kongos brother. after all, the admirabilis come from the sea... regardless i do think the hnk wiki is correct: his broken "eye" is present in both the destruction-of-kongo's-brother panel and ocean panel. (i think it being an eye is important, what with kongos eye and all -- however im not sure if thatll be relevant)

im gonna call them icebox for now since that's less of a mouthful than kongos brother .

starting in chronological order: while he seems surprised at first, kongo skirts around the question of whether or not it's normal for phos to clearly hear the ice floes. either way, we know that phos is capable of understanding them

i think the implication that antarc knows the truth of the machines is also potentially worth noting. antarc says that they can't make out the ice floes speech, however, if sensei--potentially the only person who knows aside from icebox and the lunarians--didn't tell them, then... well, combined with the ominous ice floe panel, and the amount of time that antarc has presumably spent in the ice fields, i feel like there's just one option. it doesn't hurt that antarc looks slightly nervous when sensei and phos discuss the floes

one contradiction that stood out to me is the question of the ice floes' intelligence. kongo says that the ice floes are merely reflections of one's own insecurities, and nothing more. however, in these panels, they are acknowledged as beings who are capable of bribery and seem to have their own ambitions. not only that, but beings that seem omnipotent enough to know of how important phos was to aechma's plans--he doesn't say that they took phos's arms to bribe kongo, he implies that the ice floes explicitly did that to bribe the lunarians

however, i dont think we should write off the ice floes ability to reflect emotions as just a kongo coverup... mainly because i cant see kongo lying directly but also because i think that's going to be thematically significant in the future

i've always been kind of curious as to what icebox was designed for... kongo was explicitly designed to act as a prayer machine, but his creation seems like the aftermath of his brother's actions. im really not sure of this one, so i'd love to see if you guys have any ideas

either way, i think their two 'functions' (kongo's ability to help people find peace & his brother's/the ice floe's ability to reflect the despair of others) are thematically relevant. especially when it comes to the idea of change. for example, sensei's function fundamentally defies change -- in a way, thats what a peaceful passing means. he's also vaguely resistant to change in his actions throughout the series: he molds the gems to look just like humans, not just in terms of appearance but also how they see labor. when the lunarians attack the gems, he does nothing to change this--simply trying to retain the status quo. the lunarian's main complaint about him is that no matter their methods, he refuses to change in response.

meanwhile, the ice floes' most narratively important scene involves them coercing phos to finally make a change. and, technically, they do get their way. not only do they get their way, but the aftermath causes the first drastic change we see in phos. not only this, but you could argue that icebox caused the greatest change in the entire series through causing the impact. their power to reflect someone's emotions is a tool to force change, regardless of whether that change would be a wise or healthy decision.

⚠️ attention: chapter 96 spoilers below

gonna get my more absurd theory out of the way first: i dont think ichikawa had aechma mention the disappearance of admirabilis souls without a reason, and if i'm correct and the ice floes do end up being a big part of future chapters, i feel like it would flow (tehee) much smoother if they were involved somehow... so my more absurd theory is that the creation of admirabilis involved the sinners in the ice floes in some way--and when they die they return to that limbo. i don't necessarily 100% believe this myself, and i'd probably go with the "admirabilis don't turn into lunarians because they're the flesh of humanity" theory if it hadn't been brought up in-story.

anyway if you guys are still with me after that one: when talking about phos, aechma specifically brings up that it could be dangerous to interfere in phos's transformation/constant state of change... this feels like a sort of chekhovs gun set-up to me, especially since i don't expect phos transformation to simply go smoothly throughout the entirety of those 10,000 years

however... i don't expect either the lunarians or the lustrous to interfere, and aechma specifically mentions taking the remaining earth admirabilis to the moon. as euclase put it, phos is the only one left... except for the ice floes

if i'm right, and the ice floes are kongo's brother, this could get even more complicated if phos inherits any of kongo's memories... and moreso if phos starts to believe that they are kongo

i'd love to see other people's theories when it comes to this, i feel like ive only hit the tip of the iceberg here (Sorry ❤)

Okay, I can't believe I'm posting this but please point out the mistakes mercilessly 😅 I also wrote the next part but it's much worse than this one so I don't want to share it

Spider didn't know at what point he fell asleep when suddenly he was woken up by a light but vigorous shaking of his shoulder. He opened his eyes and all the remnants of sleep disappeared when he saw little girl right in front of his face, looking like she was about to cry.

- What happened Tuk? He whispered and pulled her closer to him, nervously looking around the room in fear that someone would come and separate them for disturbing the night peace.

In the darkness he saw Quaritch looking at them from the corner of his eye, seeming to be debating whether to get up to them or leave it alone. They made eye contact and Spider joined in with his best efforts to convey a clear non-verbal message - "I will take care of it." Quaritch maintained eye contact for a moment, then sighed and nodded. However, he did not lose sight of them.

- I can't sleep Tuk said tearfully into his shirt. "I miss my parents. And Kiri, and Neteyam. Even Lo'ak but dont tell him this. My mama always sings for me, I can't fall asleep without it' - she wailed louder, so Spider immediately reacted and started stroking her hair to try to silence her. Suddenly he felt a strange feeling of Deja vu and he immersed himself in a memory that he didn't want to remember at that moment.

Ahhh props to you 👏👏

(Disclaimer that this is just my opinion throughout!)

Para 1 - Overall it gets to the point well and the urgency/change of situation is well conveyed!

If I was editing I'd be looking at these factors:

1. Is it worth breaking up the first sentence? Otherwise he seems to be thinking that about sleep timings while he's still asleep. So he doesn't know what time it is when he falls asleep (then new sentence) he's suddenly woken. Or flip it, start with suddenly woken and then maybe later in that section there's time for him to think about how little sleep he's had/what time it is if relevant.

2. Light but vigorous can come off as a contradiction - like is he being shaken hard or soft? And I know what the answer is, it's a child that's shaking him, so I might take out light and mention that small hands are doing the vigorous shaking instead.

3. Last sentence looks great, I might have considered trying to show the impact of him being woken up fast by cutting down on words: 'He opened his eyes and all the remnants of sleep disappeared-' could be 'He opened his eyes, all remnants of sleep gone-' or similar.

Para 2 - This is good character continuity - this Spider is very focused on Tuk, keeping her safe, keeping her protected and he's definitely going to be concerned about her 'getting into trouble.'

If I was editing I'd be looking at these factors:

Speech marks are missing for Spider talking.

2. Are they in the tent here? If so, he's not looking around the room but at the tent entrance (or trying to see shapes of people through the sheets)

3. The 'night peace' doesn't quite sound like a thing? 'peace' on its own would be fine 'peace of the night' maybe or 'night's peace'.

Para 3 - Again good movement of the plot, Quaritch is now involved, Spider is trying to get him uninvolved.

If I was editing I'd be looking at these factors:

Is Quaritch looking from the corner of his eye? If so, he's facing away from them? Why would that be? Would it not be dead on?

2. 'Seeming to be debating' is fine but there must be a reason Spider knows that... maybe Q is studying them, maybe his body language is suggesting he's about to move off the seat... if we know what Spider is seeing then could be better to describe that and then we can all infer that he is debating (and the following lines will confirm it).

3. Unless Q was already sending a direct message to him, Spider isn't really 'joining in' on anything. I would prob cut that and say he 'made his best attempt to convey' or similar.

4. I wouldn't use speech marks for the non-verbal message, in the case of Custody I'd prob put the message in italics (though that's not the only way to do it!)

5. Usually you lose sight of someone/thing because stuff gets in the way, but in the scenario where Quaritch has nothing else to look at but a still/dark room then he can't really lose sight of them even if he wanted to (unless he wants to turn round and shut his eyes lol). So to convey the impact that you're looking for I'd prob say he kept 'his eyes trained on them' or Spider 'felt his gaze lingering on them' or 'he went back to looking at the video camera but Spider knew he still had half an eye on them' or similar.

Para 4 - This is good because he asked Tuk a question and you didn't wait too long for her to answer (there is a paragraph between but that's like a 3 second look between Q and S). Also realistic that Tuk misses parents and trusts Spider to help her.

If I was editing I'd be looking at these factors:

Tuk's speech marks are missing in a couple places.

2. Is Spider wearing a shirt? (In the actual chapter it's not specified so this choice is totally fine, but it's something I'd think about in case it was specifically mentioned earlier - ie if he'd been wearing Paz's jersey right now her crying into it would have been relevant).

3. All the family names tumbling out are good - but because Tuk's distressed is she going to be thinking 'don't tell him this'? She might say 'even Lo'ak' if they usually bicker, but 'don't tell him this' sounds like something you'd say in a jokey way or a secretive way.. not when you're crying in distress.. so I would cut that.

4. She hasn't called Neytiri 'mama' in Custody so I would switch to mom (or mommy if she's extremely distressed) - though obviously mama would be fine as a choice normally!

5. Saying she can't sleep without the singing is probably a contradiction because presumably Spider made sure she was asleep before he slept earlier, however she's a kid in distress so she could very well have exaggerated and this doesn't necessarily need any changes.

6. 'She wailed louder' after she's just finished speaking implies that she then let out a cry/wail/howl/big noise of dismay. She very much could have done this, but it infers she's now full out sobbing/crying out a wordless noise. It's very possible that's what you want, but given she was speaking tearfully a second ago it's quite a big jump. So I might have switched to saying her voice was getting louder, she was beginning to wail, something like that.

7. 'Spider immediately reacted' weirdly slows everything down because there's nothing specific to visualise - I'd take out 'reacted' so that he immediately starts stroking her hair and trying to shush her. Would also consider inserting a bit about him glancing to see if Q is reacting since that's a worry of his.

8. If he doesn't want to remember the memory right now (which good, yes, he shouldn't want to right now) then he wouldn't immerse himself in it. I would probably say that it immersed him, he found himself immersed.. something like that to show it's not his will that it's happening.

Disney Month :Return to Witch Mountain

The 14th installment of Disney Month is a review of a sequel,we are going to look at Return of Witch Mountain

In this 1978 film ,two alien siblings Tia(Kim Richards ) and Tony (Ike Eisenman ) travel to Los Angelas only for Tony to be captured by the mad scientist Dr. Victor Gannon (Christopher Lee) who plans to use Tonys special powers for diabolical means ,and Tia teams up with a gang calle the Earthquakes in order to save Tony

So I have seen the first movie Escape to Witch Mountain,and I liked it well enough for the performances of Donald Pleasence,Ray Milland and EDdie Albert ,but honestly a lot of its a blur

I did enjoy this film ,its an odd film cause it is half lighter then the first film ....But also half darker .The light stuff involves a gang of dumb wanna be tough kids help Tia ,and there is some comedy there ....But the villains plot is kind of intense and much higher stakes then the first film ,involving kidnapping ,mind control ,nuclear destruction and attempted child murder,compounded by getting two film veterens mor associated with horror and thriller films to play the villains

The kids plot is fine ,I think Kim Richard does a good job as Tia but the Earthquake gang are just OK and some of the humor grated on me.I say the best part of the gang half is the poor truant officer  Mr. "Yo-Yo" Yokomoto played by Jack Soo in his final role .Yokomoto is just sucha likable character ,a guy who belives in what he is doing and goes on to help our heroes in their quest ,His speech about why he does what he does is actually very sweet ,and he is my favorite heroic character in the film ,with Jack Soo giving a pretty good performance

OK lets talk about the bad guys cause they are the best part of the movie,not so much for their personalities as much as for who plays them and how they are played .Doctor Victor Gannon is your classic mad scientist,obsessed with fame and power ,being totally morally bankrupt and completely insane.Letha Wedge is his now bankrupt backer who is motivated by greed ,and is sleightly less evil then Victor(At the very least she cares about her nephew ) , but is still pretty darn evil ,its just she is more practical .We also have Sickle,Lethas thuggish nephew ,who I dont have much to say about ,I think actor Anthony James does an excellent job being both entertaining but still menacing .....But lets talk about the two main villains,cause the filmmakers decided to go all out with them and got CHRISTOPHER LEE and BETTE DAVIS!!!Bette Davis was already a screen legend who was most well known for thrillers and horror and Christopher Lee,while not yet an icon ,was already a well known name associated with intense intimidating villains being both Dracula and a Bond villain ,so its wild to me they are in this family movie(Though Davis did is specifically as something her grandkids could watch ),and I adore that they are in it.Something really fun is the pair approach the material diffrently .Bette Davis hams it up ,she is the more comical less intense villain,but still has that Bette Davis flare ....I think Lee is convinced he is in a straight forward sci fi film , he is as serious as a heart attack ,and is super intimidating .Honestly I think it works ,Davis and Lee play off eachother well ,and their performances fit their characters.Honestly they are pretty good villains

The big flaws with the film are that the humor is hit and miss ,and poor Tony is mind controlled throughout the whole film so he has very little to do

what is implied by "logic"? I'm sure what we understand as our "real world logic" is vastly different from person to person. in my world cousin incest is encouraged. in my world my mother was married of at 15 to a 30 year old. does "logic" mean "modern belief system"? again I'd wager you use your modern belief system to interpret your fiction as well. (hell, historians/academics/anthropologists are trained to refuse the urge of applying modern belief systems and cultural universalism because doing that is so ingrained in us as humans to the point entire belief systems are build on it.) unless you're doing some specific reading feat. your applied academic theory/philosophy/politic/thruline of choice.

However, I do feel like these two views can be reconciled somehow. Thus, little Aemond can be propagandized by other family members into believing Targaryen hype, including the joys & wonders of targcest, agreed. But, at the same time, he is also a character in a TV show, whose lines are written by someone, with framing decided by someone. There is authorial intent behind his appearances on screen, not everything is naturalistic, so to speak. And sometimes decisions pertaining to characters (especially those with little screen time) tend to be strategic. Meaning that, yes, the show is pointing out the consequences of targcest fascistoid indoctrination. But, it is also possible it wants to lay the building blocks for a future Helaena-Aemond dynamic and is using that scene to shoot two birds with one stone, so to speak.

Which is to say that if the authors (scriptwriters, directors, producers) wanted to introduce the audience to the possibility of helaemond, this is one way to do it. Little Aemond is being directed to stare wistfully at Helaena while imagining how cool it would be to marry her. Grown-up!Aemond is being directed to move his whole-ass chair and stare like a weirdo at his sister dancing with Jace. It's disruptive in the dinner table landscape, especially when compared to Aegon's reaction.

This is where subtext comes into play. And, because we're speaking of cues and innuendo, different people may interpret it differently. This is not to say that helaemond is a certainty, only that various visual storytelling hints have been employed, should they want to pick this thread up again in the future. I doubt that these two actors just so happened to come up with these acting choices on their own in one big coincidence.

If this were real-life and Aemond an actual person pining after his sister, perhaps these interactions wouldn't have occurred in the same manner. He would have looked at Aegon when having a conversation with him. He would have kept an eye on Jace and Helaena without physically moving his chair. These can very well be details added by the show-runners to subtly communicate something to us. Of course we can disagree on the nature of that information, but, from a logistical standpoint, it makes sense that they'd want to keep their options open, test the waters, and only in later seasons commit to a a certain path.
