Yesterday marked 230 years from the shameful crime and a terrible sin of regicide in France. It was the beginning of the end of what, until then, was left of true Europe.

A Knight’s Tale
Tumblr media
Long ago, humans crash landed on the planet of Wostria. Thousands of years later, the last free human kingdom in the land of the elves is under attack. The princess is rescued and travels far away with the expectation that they’ll come back someday to reclaim their homeland. Once away from everything familiar to them, they realized they’d rather be a prince than a princess. Currently at the academy for knights, Nettle has their first experience on the field and is horrified by what they saw. Will they stay true to themself or accomplish what is expected of them?
Genre: YA fantasy, planetary romance
Topics and Tropes: coming of age story, gender exploration, “police” brutality, sexual assault, healing from trauma
Inspiration: Tamora Pierce stories, Dragonriders of Pern stories, the events of June 2020, Tess of the Road, my personal experiences with gender/religion
more information and image credits below the cut
Status: first draft, 25k+ words, plans for a sequel
Characters:
Nettle
escaping from their home and dealing with the aftermath thereof has left (emotional) scars on them; has joined a knight’s academy to learn self defense, encouraged by their servant who wants them to retake the kingdom someday; is a shy and gentle soul thrust into confrontation they never wanted, will it harden them or will they remain soft?
slender person with deep set hazel eyes on a heart shaped face and caramel brown hair with a natural loose, wavy texture
Strong point: resilience, Weak point: physical strength
Color palette: aquamarine (#6ACFE1), sky blue (#B4F3FD), seafoam (#CFFCEC), milan yellow (#FBFEA4), sand (#FFEBCC)
Their trauma reaction is freeze
Owin
was Nettle’s first friend at the academy, his studies at the knight’s academy are sponsored by a community because his family is not rich enough to cover it, he takes the knight’s code very seriously and will often blindly follow the law, what he lacks in smarts is made up for in his raw enthusiasm for life and love
large, burly person with sunshine brown eyes on a square shaped face and straight hair the color of oats
Strong point: stamina, Weak point: (academic) intelligence
Color palette: ronchi yellow (#E5CB40), oats (#EDE4CA), muted peach (#FFCBA4), sirocco teal (#6A8285), mist blue (#A1CBCC)

Amber
was Nettle’s second friend at the academy- after a rocky start built on misunderstandings they bonded over their dislike of elves; her girlish demeanor is only sometimes clouded by her burning desire for revenge on the elves for raping her mom; she is so used to being the only person looking out for her that she often forgets she can ask for help, but she will be the first person to volunteer to help others
short and curvy person with locked hair pulled back into a ponytail. She has large black eyes on brown skin and a wide bridged nose and her ears are pointed.
Strong point: (emotional) intelligence, Weak point: being hypervigilant of other’s emotions
Color palette: medium brown (#754229), pale olive (#A7AB6F), bright red (#A80000), ashy rose (#CC99A5), baby blue (#C7E9F2)
