TSATS SPOILERS
Okay, so I finished the book and I have a question: where tf is Apollo?????
I get that he couldn't go on a quest with them, he said so at the end of ToN but why doesn't he appear at camp at the end of the book? Or at least visit Will in a dream? Hades did that for Nico.
Also at the beginning it's said that Rachel spoke the same prophecy like 12 times. Apollo is literally the god of prophecies, why isn't he doing anything about it? (Unless Rachel first went to him and he told her to go with this to Nico and Will and asked her not to tell them that he sent her. Idk just an idea).
Personaly I don't have a problem with Will thinking that he might not see Apollo in years or even ever again, because well, it's not presented as fact, it's what Will thinks. And it fits with his fear of abandonment that we can see later in the book. If he has moments when he thinks that his boyfried could leave him behind in the Tartarus or the Underworld then I can easily belive that he thinks that his dad wouldn't bother with visits now when he's a god again.
But that's exacly why Apollo visiting at the end, to give Will comfort after a dengerous quest, would be perfect. It would prove that Will's assumptions were wrong. (I'm just gonna pretend that this is what happened the next day 🙃)
This book has a problem with mentioning important characters in general. Like where are Jerry, Gracie and Yan, you know, Will's new siblings? What was the point of introducing them if their existence is never acknowledged? Austin and Kayla are never mention during the quest itself, they just go home and Will and Nico never think or talk about them. And Hazel, the only alive sibling Nico has, is mationed like once I think???
So it's not that Apollo is the only victim of narration here, but he it the most noticible one because 1) he was a main character in the previous books. 2) he's name is constantly mantion in reference to Will: 'son of Apollo said this' 'son of Apollo did that' and so on. And maybe it's just me, but did anyone else noticed that Will is refered like this a bit too often? Like Nico is somtimes called "Son of Hades" by narration but not near as often as Will is called his father's son, especialy in the later in the story. Like at some point I had a feeling that the book was literally screaming at me "Hey remember Will's dad? This guy named Apollo? Yeah we know he's not in this book, but don't forget about him! He's still important we swear". Anyone else noticed this? Maybe I'm just being delusional but I swear they were doing this for a reason.
I don't know what are Rick's plan for the future, maybe there will be an explanation on why Apollo was so ignored by this book. Maybe he was super busy with something, or maybe he feard that if he intervenes he would bring Zeus' attention to Will and Nico and tbh we don't know how Zeus feels about quest to Tartarus, especialy if the said quest involves saving a titan (because let's be honest, Zeus probably dosen't like the idea of bringing a titan out of Tartarus).
Or maybe Apollo's planing a revolutuon to take his tyrannical father down, who knows.
Sorry if this is a bit messy, I normally don't write analasys/observations but I wanted to get this of my chest (also English is my 2nd language so sorry for all the mistakes)

Battlefield Healer
Fandom: Trials of Apollo Rating: Teen Genre: Angst/Hurt/Comfort Characters: Gracie, Jerry, Yan By the end of the battle, Apollo called his youngest children "looking like seasoned pros", but that's not a good thing, not when it was their first battle. TOApril 2024 day 2 - Growing Pains. This was difficult because I wasn't sure how to do this prompt, but in the end I settled on more TON trio kid content! That was not a fun field trip, Chiron!
Gracie was scared.
Chiron had said it was a training exercise.  He’d called it a field trip, to get used to fighting monsters in a controlled environment, but Gracie had met human-Apollo.  Will and Nico had disappeared for a day, leaving Lester (because she wasn’t going to call the weird teenager Dad even if Will and Austin and Kayla did; they’d told her their Dad was the guy that came in dreams, and that wasn’t this pimply teenager Will’s age) behind, and he’d been tense and scared.
Austin and Kayla had been tense, too, especially when Lester and Meg left with Will and Nico and they were the senior campers.  Kayla had kept counting arrows and fletching more until Austin made her stop because her fingers were going sore and she’d need them healthy for later.
Gracie hadn’t been at camp very long, but she didn’t think Chiron’s idea of a field trip-training exercise was the same thing her half-siblings had been preparing for.  The training exercises they’d done in camp had been fun, not… whatever this was.
It was the same with the other campers; the ones like Gracie, that had joined recently, seemed excited about the training trip, and Gracie understood that because it was something different, they got to take their weapons and go out on a trip like she did at school sometimes and have fun!  If it wasn’t for Austin and Kayla, and Will and Lester when they were still at camp, she would be that excited, too.
It had been fun, to start with!  Despite being weirdly tense, Austin had led them in songs while they’d travelled to New York in the bus, and Gracie had gladly joined in, even though she didn’t know all of the songs – or hadn’t done, to start with.  Austin was a good teacher, and Gracie had always been good at picking up songs.
Then they had arrived, and the Ares and Athena campers had charged in ahead.  Gracie hadn’t realised it then, when despite the tenseness she hadn’t really understood why the older campers hadn’t been as excited about this trip as the newer ones, but they’d taken on the front line of Nero’s forces, the biggest and strongest of the grunt fighters.
She’d found that out when Will was gone, disappeared at some point when she hadn’t been looking, and Kayla and Austin were also gone, and a grim faced Sherman had dumped a bleeding Ares kid she didn’t remember the name of on her, because she was the nearest Apollo kid.
There was so much blood.
So much of it, on the once white tiles of Nero’s boring tower, on the orange t-shirt and celestial bronze armour that hadn’t stopped whatever had hit the other camper that hard, and Gracie didn’t know what to do.
Were they dying?  Was it worse than it looked?  What did Sherman expect her to do about it?  She looked around frantically, for Will, or Austin, or Kayla, or Chiron, but she couldn’t see any of them, just more fighting, more blood.
There were screams, too, and not all of them weren’t human.  Shouts and yells and this wasn’t fun.
Gracie didn’t think this was fun.  Ben raced past in his wheelchair, whooping loudly with something splattered on his wheels and over his armoured, spiky gloves, so clearly he did, but he wasn’t the one with a bleeding out camper that had been dumped on him with the expectation that she could do something about it.
She supposed she should be able to.  Apollo was the god of healing, and Will was amazing at it.  He’d even taught her a few things – not the singing, not the hymns.  She knew the words and the tune because it was music but she couldn’t get it to work and Will had said that was okay.  She could still do triage, he’d told her, could still clean wounds and wrap them up and keep people alive.
Jerry had got as far as stitching, and he could get a chanted hymn to do something, but Gracie couldn’t and she couldn’t see him if she looked around.  She could see Yan, standing tall with their bow and picking off Nero’s followers if they got too close, but Jerry was out of sight.
It was down to her, then, and she didn’t know if her patient was dying but they seemed pretty bad and Sherman had taken the time out of a fight to get them to her.
The blood was sticky, when she tentatively put her hand on their shoulder, not on a wound but close enough.  Sticky and warm and part of Gracie wanted to throw up.  It wasn’t that she was bad with blood – this wasn’t even the first time she’d seen blood, she’d helped Will after Capture the Flag because all Apollo kids helped out after Capture the Flag, no matter how not good they were at healing – it was the fact that it was on her.
She was the one that had to keep this camper alive.  That was all on her and it was terrifying.
Focus, Gracie, she told herself desperately, and blindly reached for the small bag on her back that Will had made her pack herself so she knew exactly where everything was.  She still fumbled, shrugging the bag off and rummaging through it desperately because she didn’t remember where she’d put everything, before her fingers wrapped around something cool and fragile-feeling, although Will had promised her those particular vials never broke.
Gracie wasn’t quite sure she believed him, but it was intact as she pulled it out, a miniscule bottle of amber liquid.  A single dose, because judging amounts in action was difficult and a mistake would be fatal, so Will had made sure she was only carrying single-dose vials.
At the time, she’d been a little offended that he thought she’d mess up something like that, when it had been drilled into her over and over and over again how dangerous it all was.
Now, with shaking fingers that kept fumbling the stopper, Gracie was glad, because she’d have been too scared to even try and judge it like this, alone with no supervision and a maybe-dying camper in front of her.
She wasn’t sure if it all even went in their mouth or if she still spilled some down their cheeks instead, but it was administered and now she had to do… what?  What came next?
Stop the bleeding.  The blood was still sticky and warm and it was still leaking out of them.  Clean and wrap and-
An arrow shrieked past her and Gracie’s head jerked up.  There was one of Nero’s wolf-like followers right in front of her, weapon raised, and her eyes went large as her face went cold because-
There was an arrow in their heart, which had them stumbling backwards as they started turning into monster-dust, but Gracie was shaking even more because if Yan hadn’t-
She’d be dead.
She hadn’t even noticed.
Bursting into tears on the battlefield – because this was, it was a battlefield and they could die despite what Chiron said about training trips – seemed like the sort of thing that should not be done, but Gracie couldn’t help it, bandages slipping from her fingers as her chest heaved, because she was terrified.
How could she save someone’s life if she was going to get killed doing it?  How was she supposed to do this without getting killed?  She’d only been a demigod for a couple of months, she was not ready for anything like this!
“Gracie!”  Hands grabbed her and she whipped around to see Jerry.  He tugged her into a hug and she resisted because what if they got killed but then there were legs in front of them and she looked up to see Yan standing over them.
“You two heal,” they said, and their voice wasn’t steady, either, but their bow was and that was comforting.  “I’ll protect.”
“Y-yeah!” Jerry replied, and he looked like he’d been crying, too.  There was blood on his hands, and a smear across his forehead.  “We got this.  Don’t let us die.”
“I won’t.”
Gracie still didn’t feel safe.  Yan was good but they hadn’t been a demigod much longer, and Jerry was a better healer than her but hadn’t been trained for very long, either, but it was a little bit easier, with both of them with her.
“I’ve given nectar,” she reported shakily, and Jerry gave her a watery grin.
“Awesome,” he said, although it came out shakier than she thought he wanted.  He was scared as well – this was his first battle.  Their first battle, and their experienced siblings were nowhere to be seen, somewhere in the thick of things and not on the edges, and Gracie didn’t want to know how terrifying the thick of things was when the edges were this bad.
But Jerry was a better healer than her, and with Yan standing guard, their bowstring singing as they shot anything that tried to get close, they got the Ares camper stabilised.
It should have felt like a victory – a battlefield healing!  They did it! – but all Gracie could think about was how that was only one person, and how many more times they were going to have to do it before they were all over.
She burst into exhausted tears at the thought.

need more apollo and darren lore to see if i can relate them to back to december
you can ONE HUNDRED PERCENT relate them to back to december if you just ignore the tiny detail of them not breaking up in december (but like, who cares because it’s the VIBE that matters and in this case the vibe is definitely accurate)
i will definitely be adding more apollo and darren lore…let’s just say… archery world championships happening soon…. olympics in one year…. kayla’s an icon mastermind…..
but! some little notes in specific relation to back to december
i know you may think this is apollos pov, but after looking over the lyrics again to refresh my memory… it’s from darren’s perspective. 100%
I'm so glad you made time to see me / How's life? Tell me, how's your family? / I haven't seen them in a while
apollos family!! not referring to his dad. duh. but darren’s prob just talking abt like the 1-2 times he met will and austin as babies, he hasn’t seen them since so “a while”…. sure darren, that might be a bit of an understatement
You've been good, busier than ever / We small talk, work and the weather / Your guard is up and I know why
small talk is SO real with them. they’re so awkward esp rn. they don’t know how to talk to each other. apollo says “nice weather we’re having” completely unironically and darren responds “oh yeah it’s nice”
cue silence for like 2 minutes until apollo asks how his coaching is going and more and more stilted conversation
AND!!! they’re both busier than ever!! apollo returning to being employed (kinda? i mean, he has a job so) and darren with olympics being next year
Because the last time you saw me / Is still burned in the back of your mind / You gave me roses and I left them there to die
i don’t wanna spoil exactly how they broke up… bc me and wronghuntress had like an hour long convo abt pollen lore a few weeks back and. guys. when i tell you i am SO fucking excited to write it‼️‼️
HOWEVER. this line. is very. very. very. fitting. from darren’s pov that’s all i’m saying hereeee
bc ik in one of the other chapters i said that apollos like “i ruined his life” and he DID but also like. it’s messy. it’s so very messy.
So this is me swallowin' my pride / Standin' in front of you sayin' I'm sorry for that night / And I go back to December all the time
not technically in front of him but!! the phone call!! abt kayla!! him swallowing up his pride, and there wasn’t necessarily an apology for the… things that happened, but it’s a step forward
It turns out freedom ain't nothin' but missin' you / Wishin' I'd realized what I had when you were mine / I'd go back to December, turn around and make it alright / I go back to December all the time
change it to march and make darren a singer instead of an archer and this would be one of his songs😭😭
These days, I haven't been sleepin' / Stayin' up playin' back myself leavin' / When your birthday passed and I didn't call / Then I think about summer, all the beautiful times / I watched you laughin' from the passenger's side / And realized I loved you in the fall
god… this timeline is actually SO real. if anyone’s making a pollen playlist out there (i should probably do that when i have timeHDKDJD) THIS SONG‼️‼️‼️
anyway ofc apollo is associated with summer in darren’s brain… and also apollo def thinks of summer too when thinking of darren :)
and oh yeah, ofc apollo’s in the passenger seat. bro probably grew up with drivers and doesn’t have his license.. rip sun chariot!!! (he gets his license eventually, ofc, but only bc it’s to drive will to school)
I miss your tan skin, your sweet smile / So good to me, so right
But if we loved again, I swear I'd love you right
i mean, do these even need to be explained? well darren, i can assure you that you WILL love again. it’s what we all need
okay so. i can’t really. explain the rest of this stuff. but here are the lyrics that stand out to me SOOO much because of how they broke up. that is all i can say for now!!
And then the cold came, the dark days / When fear crept into my mind / You gave me all your love and all I gave you was goodbye
And how you held me in your arms that September night / The first time you ever saw me cry
thank you so much for the ask!! it’s been a while since some pollen content but i swear it’s coming soon :))

A Will Solace Character Analysis: the Underappreciated Soft Side
I've noticed many fanfictions have Will Solace OOC. So I’ve been thinking about aspects of Will’s personality fans seem to either gloss over or exaggerate. Here, this post is me doing an in-depth analysis explaining Will Solace’s canon personality in the books, and how it can sometimes differ from fanfictions. Sprinkled in this analysis are tips to fanfiction writers on how they write Will as more in-character.
There is one major aspect of Will that people seem to ignore or underemphasize. Nico best explains it when describing Will in this quote
Jason was a fighter. You could tell from the intensity of his stare, his constant alertness, the coiled-up energy in his frame. Will Solace was more like a lanky cat stretched out in sunshine. His movements were relaxed and nonthreatening, his gaze soft and far away. In his faded SURF BARBADOS T-shirt, his cutoff shorts and flip-flops, he looked about as aggressive as a demigod could get, but Nico knew he was brave under fire. During the Battle of Manhattan, Nico had seen him in action - the camp's best combat medic, risking his life to save wounded campers.
To sum it up, Will Solace is a very chill and calm character. A lot of writers make Will more irrational, impulsive, overbearing, and emotional than he actually is. Will is not the type of character to create drama unless he's, as Nico puts it, "under fire." In other words, the intense side of his personality doesn't come out unless the situation is urgent or dire.
Fans remember during the Second Giant War how he gets angry and argues with Nico over Nico's health and shadow-traveling, so many assume Will is going to be this fiery over a lot of other things regarding their relationship. For example, fanfic writers may make Will controlling or overly sensitive with Nico. However, keep in mind, Will gets heated with Nico during the Second Giant War because Nico's shadow-traveling is killing him. This is how Will describes Nico's dire state.
"Coach Hedge told me all about your shadow-travel. You can’t try that again."
"I just did try it again, Solace. I’m fine."
"No, you’re not. I’m a healer. I could feel the darkness in your hand as soon as I touched it. Even if you made it to that tent, you’d be in no shape to fight. But you wouldn’t make it. One more slip, and you won’t come back. You are not shadow-travelling. Doctor’s orders."
Will is a healer. When he touches Nico's hand, he can sense how little sleep and food Nico has been getting and how Nico's being taken over by darkness. Nico is on the verge of death and hasn't cared about his health for a long time. Nico is also stubborn about it, so Will has to be aggressive in order to save Nico's life. This aggressive behavior is not the norm for Will, but it can sometimes come out when he has to assert control in a life-or-death situation.
Will is a calming prescence. He's a diplomat. He stops violence on multiple occassions.
He's one of the few people who's able to calm Clarisse's violent rage, and he does so in a gentle manner.
Clarisse pointed her dagger at Rachel. "What about their allies, huh? Did you see that tribe of two-headed men that arrived yesterday? Or the glowing red dog-headed guys with the big poleaxes? They look pretty barbaric to me. It would’ve been nice if you’d foreseen any of that, if your Oracle power didn’t break down when we needed it most!"
Rachel’s face turned as red as her hair. "That’s hardly my fault. Something is wrong with Apollo’s gifts of prophecy. If I knew how to fix it –"
"She’s right." Will Solace, head counsellor for the Apollo cabin, put his hand gently on Clarisse’s wrist. Not many campers could’ve done that without getting stabbed, but Will had a way of defusing people’s anger. He got her to lower her dagger. "Everyone in our cabin has been affected. It’s not just Rachel."
One of the most underrated Will Solace moments is when he stops a bloody battle from happening between Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter.
But he knew it wouldn’t do any good. After weeks of waiting, agonizing and steaming, the Greeks and Romans wanted blood. Trying to stop the battle now would be like trying to push back a flood after the dam broke.
Will Solace saved the day.
He put his fingers in his mouth and did a taxicab whistle even more horrible than the last. Several Greeks dropped their swords. A ripple went through the Roman line like the entire First Cohort was shuddering.
"DON’T BE STUPID!" Will yelled. "LOOK!"
People are so used to seeing demigods, especially male demigods, being aggressive fighters that they can't wrap their heads around a brave and strong demigod who actively tries to avoid unnecessary conflict and destruction as much as he can.
And that's Will Solace's strength: he has the ability to prevent as much harm as possible.
Will is a difficult character to write. There's a lot of dueling factors with his personality. He's calm and pacifying while also being brave and assertive. He's fun and lighthearted while also being intelligent, logical, and grounded. He's laidback while also being responsible and hardworking. He's insecure but not melodramatic. He's very caring and protective but not pushy.
Will's personality confuses Nico sometimes too.
He’d always thought of Will as easygoing and laid back. Apparently he could also be stubborn and aggravating.
The trick to writing Will is to keep in mind his default personality is a soft and lighthearted character. Writers tend to overemphasize the hard side of his personality when his default personality is actually the soft side.
Think of the relaxing, lanky cat metaphor Nico uses for him. He and Nico bicker often, and it works for Will because he rolls with everything and doesn't take things too seriously. He's able to alleviate Nico's moodiness with humor, wittiness, groundedness, and patience. Nico affectionately calls Will a "dork" because Will usually keeps things light. Interestingly enough, he's able to be lighthearted without coming across as insensitive or an airheaded goofball, the latter of which is something Nico dislikes about Percy's personality. On a related sidenote, another way writers make Will OOC is they make him too dumb or too immature. I know I mentioned to focus on Will's soft side, but be careful to avoid that too. He's a SENSIBLE, lanky cat.
The way Will keeps his composure during a stressful situation by using laughter while still being mature is expressed well in this exchange with Apollo. (Yes, Will has a lot to manage.)
It was difficult to think of this young man as my son. He was so poised, so unassuming, so free of acne. He also didn’t appear to be awestruck in my presence. In fact, the corner of his mouth had started twitching.
“Are—are you amused?” I demanded.
Will shrugged. “Well, it’s either find this funny or freak out. My dad, the god Apollo, is a fifteen-year-old—”
“Sixteen,” I corrected. “Let’s go with sixteen.”
“A sixteen-year-old mortal, lying in a cot in my cabin, and with all my healing arts—which I got from you—I still can’t figure out how to fix you.”
“There is no fixing this,” I said miserably. “I am cast out of Olympus. My fate is tied to a girl named Meg. It could not be worse!”
Will laughed, which I thought took a great deal of gall. “Meg seems cool. She’s already poked Connor Stoll in the eyes and kicked Sherman Yang in the crotch.”
The fiercer side of Will's personality comes out only when the situation calls for it; this happens sometimes when he has to be a caring family member, a responsible healer, or a warrior in a dire situation. Even when he gets more forceful, he doesn't get more forceful than he has to.
Since Will has such a balanced and lighthearted personality, what are his flaws? What are the dark sides of his personality? There are four main things that stick out.
1. He's insecure about his self-perceived lack of abilities.
"I agree," Will said. "I wish I was a better archer … I wouldn’t mind shooting my Roman relative off his high horse. Actually, I wish I could use any of my father’s gifts to stop this war." He looked down at his own hands with distaste. "Unfortunately, I’m just a healer."
2. He sometimes struggles to endure the heavy responsibilities he has as a healer and as a protector to his family.
“I got it reattached,” Will told me, his voice shaky with exhaustion. His scrubs were speckled with blood. “I need somebody to keep him stable.”
I pointed to the woods. “But—”
“I know!” Will snapped. “Don’t you think I want to be out there searching too? We’re shorthanded for healers. There’s some salve and nectar in that pack. Go!”
I was stunned by his tone. I realized he was just as concerned about Kayla and Austin as I was. The only difference: Will knew his duty. He had to heal the injured first. And he needed my help.
3. He forces himself to bottle his emotions to keep his composure.
Will laughed under his breath. “I’m terrified. But one thing you learn as head counselor: you have to keep it together for everyone else. Let’s get you on your feet."
Here's a second example.
I rested my hand on Will’s shoulder. “Don’t worry. We’ll be back by dawn.”
His mouth trembled ever so slightly. “How can you be sure?”
4. He constantly worries about his loved ones.
Nico rested his hand on Will’s shoulder. “Apollo, we were worried. Will was especially.”
In conclusion, Will Solace's personality is difficult to get correct. But don't worry, if you write Will as a laidback, witty cat in your fanfics, I guarantee he'll be more in-character than many other fanfics with Will Solace.
(Note: I am only human. If you believe I'm misinterpreting some aspects of Will's personality, feel free to express it. What I say isn't 100 percent the right interpretation.)

Guess who tried their had at writing again! I like to think I’ve gotten better (if anyone’s wondering it’s cross posted on Wattpad and Ao3 too)
Sleepover Aftermaths And Gay Panic
‘This is a problem’ Nico thought as he looked at Will. He was still sleeping, sunlight softly covering his frame from the window. Mumbling something about cats and cheese. ‘A big, big, problem.’
It was just supposed to be a sleepover, a completely platonic bros-being-bros, pals-being-pals sleepover. Alas it seemed the fates had other plans.
After watching every Disney movie in existence (as per Will’s demand), since the Hephaestus cabin wanted them to test out their newest monster-proof tech, they had decided to settle down on Nico’s bed for a game of UNO, somewhere along the way falling asleep.
Great right? Wrong.
The entire time Nico’s brain had other plans, screaming senselessly whenever their hands so much as brushed, forcing his heart to flutter at every smile, making his face do it’s best imitation of vermilion, it was ridiculous.
And don’t even get him started on his reaction to Will winning their ridiculously lengthy game of UNO, cheering and wearing that brighter than life smile that made Nico’s heart become a drum and his face give a tomato a run for its money.
He was getting off topic.
After they’d fallen asleep in his bed, they’d somehow found each other in the middle of the night; wrapping their arms around each other like koalas to trees and never letting go.
Nico (thank gods) had woken up first, and found himself in a bed with his crush, his crush who he doubted was even into him, his crush who was snuggling him with no apparent intention of letting go anytime in the near future, his crush who looked like he could outshine even his Dad’s godly form if he wished it, and promptly panicked.
What does Nico do when he panics?
Address the situation like a normal, competent human being? No.
Make a plan? No.
Freeze up? Apparently not.
No, what Nico does when he panics is shadow travel to the Underwood and sprint up to his stepmother screaming “What am I supposed to do?!”
You’d think sprinting up to a goddess in skull pajamas at 4am would get you cursed so badly you’d wish you had landed up in the fields of punishment. Instead, what it landed Nico was an exasperated look and an even more exasperated “What did I tell you about playing fetch with Cerberus?”
“It wasn’t Cerberus!” Persephone looked him up and down. “Really! It wasn’t Cerberus”
“Well then who was it?” Her question was met with a flustered silence, she let out a sigh “I’ll get the Furies”
“Wait no-“ she was already halfway on her way to call them. “It was Will! It was Will”
She stopped mid motion
And her jaw dropped.
“Your crush Will? Apollo’s kid? That Will?” She looked at him in disbelief, not that he could blame her; she was always looking for more info on his crush. Info he usually steadfastly refused with a flustered subject change that wasn’t subtle in the slightest.
“...yes” She looked at him, looked at his appearance, looked at the clock on her nightstand, looked back and him, and promptly demanded answers.
“What happened?!” It was then Nico realized that 1) Persephone was staring at him like he’d grown a second head and 2) all of those things listed above didn’t exactly paint a PG picture.
“It wasn’t that!” She looked at him disbelievingly “really!”
“Well then what was it?” She crossed her legs and sat back, clearly getting comfortable for the inevitable hour-long discussion at least.
“Well...”
\\~*•*~//
Will was confused.
Scratch that, Will wasn’t really confused, more like worried.
Because he woke up alone in a bed.
Normally that wouldn’t be concerning, normally he would’ve stretched and begrudgingly got up to start the day, soaking up the first few rays of sun. Normally he wasn’t waking up in his crushes bed after a sleepover with said crush nowhere to be found.
Will could’ve rationalized this: maybe he slept in, maybe Nico was training, maybe Nico was using the bathroom or getting ready.
Except he can’t sleep in, and he seriously doubted I-sleep-till-noon-on-a-good-day Nico had woken up at 6:30 and decided ‘hey, wanna know what’ll be so much better than sleeping in for 5 more hours like I usually do? Leaving bed and stabbing bags of hay with my swords’
So yeah, Will was worried.
That was, until he got a face full of tired, emo, Italian. And an earful of colorful Italian curses to boot.
“Hi” Nico looked at him wide eyed, as if he’d forgotten Will was there, which quickly turned into a squak after Will realized that he had just shadow travelled and yanked his ear.
“What did I say about shadow traveling?!” He was sure that if Kayla were here she’d tease him about acting like a disgruntled dad, especially to Nico of all people. What he got in place of that was a mumbled “don’t do it”
“Until?” His grip on Nico’s ear still hadn’t let up, Nico gave a big sigh.
“Until your sure I won’t spontaneously turn into a ghost as soon as I use my powers”
“Exactly! You’re supposed to be recovering, not taking a spontaneous trip to Peru” Nico gave him a weird look.
“Why would I go to Peru?” Will noticed Nico was still in his pajamas. Bad brain, focus.
“I don’t know, why don’t you tell me?” Nico looked at him and sighed
“I went to the underworld” Will tilted his head in confusion, Nico’s cheeks reddened for some reason. “I was visiting Persephone.”
’Oh, that explained it.’ He and Persephone had gotten really close over the years, and it wasn’t surprising for Nico to disappear from camp randomly to visit her, ‘But still...’
Will sighed, and looked at the Italian boy “Next time you visit her can you please wait until your healthier, at least? You scared me half to death.” Nico looked at him and let out a begrudging “fine”
‘well’ Will thought ‘it’s something, for now at least’ he looked at the time “I should probably get going”
Nico looked startled for a second “Yeah, see you at the pavilion?” Will smiled
“You bet it.”

whose kaylas dad? Since in the books its a guy called Darren, how would that work with no godly magic? In your Arranged Marriage Universe I mean-
Ok so
AM au presents Kayla as the legitimate daughter of Apollo and Daphne. Lee and Michael are also legitimate, while Will and Austin are illegitimate sons of Apollo and his girlfriends.
But here’s the thing. There isn’t actually any proof that Apollo is the father of Daphne’s kids. Apollo isn’t the only one who has extramarital affairs. The reason everyone assumes that Lee, Michael, and Kayla are legitimate is because Daphne carried them, but only Daphne, Apollo, and Daphne’s lovers know whether Apollo is (or at least could be) the father.
Lee is definitely Apollo’s. Neither Apollo nor Daphne had other lovers that early in the marriage. Michael is probably Apollo’s. At that point, they might have been having casual flings. But Kayla is definitely not Apollo’s. By then, Daphne and Apollo didn’t have that sort of relationship anymore.
But by the time Kayla came along, Apollo had already had two illegitimate kids, so he and Daphne knew that natural-born children often faced discrimination/social ridicule. (Will’s going to talk about that a little bit in the next chapter.) Plus, legitimacy is a legal issue. In the eyes of the law, natural born children belong to no one and have no protections. Legally speaking, Apollo doesn’t owe Will and Austin anything. He could have abandoned them as babies without repercussions. And even though he does accept them as his children, Will and Austin don’t hold any claim to family inheritance. When Apollo dies, none of his wealth or property will go to them. (Obviously the family would take care of Will and Austin if Apollo died. Apollo also set things up for them in the event that something happens to him—one of the reasons he made Will the Earl of Solace was so that Will would have his own income. Plus Will has a secure future now that he’s married.) (Ok now that I’ve said all that I want to reiterate that everything I just told you was hypothetical and I’m not killing Apollo.) (Also, it’s possible to legitimize natural born children by getting the royal court to agree to it, but that’s difficult. Jason is natural born but legitimized. That’s how he became Zues’ legal heir. The process is easier in Neptune, so all of Aphrodite’s kids have been legitimized. But Percy has not. He doesn’t want to be. He likes having the freedom of not technically being part of the royal family.)
Anyway. My point is that natural born children are treated like shit. Apollo and Daphne realized Kayla would be treated like shit if people knew she was natural born, so when Daphne went to Apollo and said, “hey I’m pregnant and obviously the baby’s not yours,” Apollo said, “ok that’s fine but let’s pretend otherwise.”
So. My solution to the Kayla-having-two-dads thing was that she has a biological dad and an adoptive dad. I could have given Apollo a trans boyfriend but (1) I was being stupid and (2) by the time I stopped being stupid it was important to the story for Kayla to be legitimate (assumed to be legitimate, anyway).
But back to your question. As far as who her dad is...I have two theories. (1) Lee and Michael’s handsome archery teacher, Darren, caught Daphne’s eye, or (2) Hyacinthus. That would be an interesting story....

Convalescence Ch. 2
Thanks to @garecc for betaing!
Week 0, Day 6, Evening
Apollo’s POV
I woke up in a dark room. I didn’t know where I was, but for some reason, I wasn’t afraid. I felt safe and comfy and warm.
I flopped around a little, and hit someone’s nose. “Ow!”
The voice sounded vaguely familiar, but I couldn’t place it.
“Apollo?” the voice said. I made a small babbling noise in answer. “Guess you’re awake. Come on guys, get up! Apollo’s awake!” I heard rustling as people moved around. The boy who’d been talking picked me up as whoever was on the floor groaned and got up. Finally the boy who was holding me turned on a light, illuminating the room.
I was inside a cabin. Mattresses and blankets had been pulled from the beds onto the floor to form a cuddle-pile nest. In the nest blinking blearily up at me was a boy with sunshine-blond hair and blue eyes - Will - and a younger girl with ginger hair tinged with green. Her name came to mind quickly. “Kay’a!” I cried. But that means… I looked up. The boy who was holding me, the one who had woken up first, had black woven cornrows in his hair. “Au’tin!” I cried out, delighted.
I looked Austin and Kayla over, trying to find any injuries they might have had. But I couldn’t see any. Why had they been in the infirmary? I tried to ask. “Why in-for… in-for… Why in hurt place?”
“Hurt place… you mean the infirmary?” Will asked. I nodded. “They were helping the injured campers from the last battle.” Seeing the look of fear on my face, he hurried on, “Don’t worry, everyone survived and no one’s permanently injured, some people just need some extra rest. Like a certain son of Hades, who OVERUSED HIS POWERS AGAIN, and needs to stay and rest.” Will looked quite annoyed at this point. I was glad his ire wasn’t directed at me.
A long period of silence followed. I could feel that there was something they wanted to ask, but were holding back for some reason. I began fidgeting. What was it? What was wrong?
Kayla broke the awkward silence. “I’m gonna take Apollo to Chiron. I know Chiron would love to see him, and it might bring back some memories.”
Chiron?
A memory - more of an impression, really - flashed past. Riding on a centaur’s back. Tutoring an inquisitive student. A calm, reassuring smile.
“Chi-on!” I cried out. Maybe he’d give me centaur-back rides!
Kayla stood up and started to reach for me, then hesitated. “Apollo? Do you think you can walk?”
I thought for a moment, torn. On the one hand, I didn’t want my family to think I was so vulnerable that I couldn’t even walk correctly. On the other hand, being carried sounded really appealing right about now…
“Wa’k,” I said. Something was bothering Kayla - was bothering ALL of them. Maybe if I showed her that I was mature, she’d tell me what it was.
We walked out of the cabin. The sky was filled with a myriad of pinks and oranges and yellows, with a tinge of dark blue-black on the horizon. Nighttime would arrive soon.
We walked slowly, Kayla matching her pace to mine. A few times she opened her mouth to speak, but then closed it again. Fine. If she wasn’t gonna tell me, then I’d ask.
“Why sca’ed?”
Kayla stopped, looking confused. “I’m not scared.”
I knew “scared” was the wrong word, but I couldn’t think of the right one. I did the best I could with the words I had. “You quiet. Sca’ed. Want talk.”
“You noticed, huh?”
She bit her lip. “Will wanted to hold off on asking you. He didn’t want to overwhelm you. But I just… need to know. Dad, how much do you remember?”
I looked at her, lost. Dad? She seemed to be addressing me. But that made no sense. I couldn’t be her dad. I’m not good enough, not strong enough. She deserved a better father than me.
“N-never mind,” she said, looking disappointed and a little ashamed. “Let’s just go to Chiron. Then we can go to the campfire! Austin’s leading the song circle today, and I KNOW you’ll like that.”
Ooh, songs! Marshmallows! Wait, wait, can’t get off-track. Kayla needs me. Her question: what do I remember? Hmm. Not as much as I want to, but…
“You family,” I said resolutely. “Home. Family is home.” I teared up again. Home. It was true. Leto, Artemis, Meg, Kayla, Austin, Will… they all cared for me.
“Home… I’m home.” I collapsed against Kayla’s leg, smiling and crying. She sat down on the grass and pulled me into her lap. I cuddled up against her. Her smile was soft and a little sad.
“Yeah… you’re home.” she murmured. I felt something wet fall onto my head. I looked up. Kayla was crying too, just a little. I pretended not to notice.
After a few minutes of sitting there, enjoying each other’s company, Kayla finally got up. I was reluctant, but I guess we needed to move on eventually. Why did eventually have to be NOW?
“Come on, Chiron’s expecting us. We don’t want people to think that something bad happened.”
A flash of fire filled my vision, and terror seized my heart. I grabbed Kayla’s hand. She’s here, she’s alive, she’s safe, she’s not burning.
Kayla seemed to read my mind. “I’m not going anywhere, I won’t disappear again. Austin and I are safe, thanks to you.”
Safe. They were safe. My family was safe. I breathed deeply, collecting myself, and nodded. Together, we crossed the river and entered the Big House.
Chiron was waiting for us inside, reading a book. He looked up as the door opened, his facing erupting into a grin. “Apollo! Kayla!” he called as he trotted over to us. “Glad to see you up! I was worried after what happened on Olympus. How are you holding up?”
I didn’t quite remember what happened on Olympus - not very well at any rate. but I knew how to answer Chiron’s question. “O-kay” I said carefully.
“I’ll let you two chat privately,” Kayla said, and walked out the door.
Chiron swished his tail, waiting for me to speak. I didn’t. He carried on.
“Leto and Artemis are staying in Artemis’s cabin, though I’m not sure whether Leto will stay there once Artemis’s Hunters arrive at camp. Meg’s also staying with them for now. I tried to get her to go to the Demeter Cabin, but… well, she just said that she didn’t feel like it right then and walked off.”
I giggled. That sounded like Meg.
“Artemis said you came here for a reason though, beyond just wanting to see your children again. Something about Jason?”
“Remember,” I mumbled. “Gotta remember. Remember Jason. Need reminder.”
Chiron glanced at the pictures at his walls - of the greatest heroes he’d trained - and sighed. “Jason… he was a good kid. I’d hoped that after everything he’d been through, that he’d get to just… live out his life. But I knew it wouldn’t be that easy. Heroes so rarely live long…”
It struck me then. Chiron was immortal. He trained young demigods, who so infrequently lived to adulthood. He saw them die again and again and again. Yet he didn’t shy away. He embraced the mortals, tutored them, cared for them, treated them like his own children. How? How could he stand it?
I started crying again and hugged Chiron’s leg. “Hurts,” I mumbled. “Hurts so much.”
Chiron stroked my hair. “Yes,” he said tenderly, “I know. It always does. If it didn’t, I’d be worried. But it’s worth it, knowing them, caring for them. Even if it hurts in the end. I won’t say the pain goes away. You already know that’s not true. But… the pain can be precious as well. It’s proof that they lived, and that you cared. Proof that they MEANT something.” Chiron gazed around the room for a moment. “These walls are filled with some of the greatest heroes I’ve taught, the ones whose stories have been passed down through the ages, who history remember. But these aren’t the only reminders I keep. Come on. I have something to show you.”
Seeing my hopeful look, Chiron sighed and put me on his back as he trotted through the Big House, into his private quarters.
He took me into a large room, filled with hundreds, maybe thousands of items, covering every surface. Small machines that I’m certain Hephaestus’s children made, arrowheads, jewelry, and most of all, books. Rows upon rows of books, covering entire bookshelves. He went to one of the shelves and took one out, splaying it on a nearby table. I leaned over his shoulder, trying to get a good look.
It was a photo album, filled with hundreds of photos of young campers. some group photos of cabins, some individual shots.
Chiron smiled sadly as he went through the album. “I collect reminders too. Tangible proof that these children existed. That they mattered.”
He flipped through the book, stopping on the photo of a teenage girl with black hair and blue eyes. “This is Silena Beauregard. She stayed with us for many summers, and was head counselor of the Aphrodite fountain. She was always kind and hated killing and inflicting pain, though she recognized it was sometimes necessary. Do you know she’s the reason Festus wasn’t destroyed? He was broken and a bit crazy after first being booted back up, and tried to kill her, Beckendorf, Percy, and Annabeth. But she insisted on disabling him temporarily instead of destroying him.”
He flipped to another page. My breath caught in my throat, and tears pricked at my eyes. Two teenage boys were standing together, quivers flung over their backs. Chiron noticed my gaze. “Michael Yew and Lee Fletcher. Your children. They were always keeping everyone’s spirits up, leading song circles and organizing games. Though they did tend to suggest archery be included in contests more often than it was warranted,” he chuckled.
I stared. I couldn’t remember them. They were my family, I knew that, but not a single memory floated into my mind. It’s because you hardly knew them, something whispered in my mind. You claimed them and sometimes helped them, but you barely knew them.
I wasn’t entirely sure what that voice meant, but I felt like I should. My gut twisted. I hadn’t done enough. I didn’t know what I hadn’t done enough of, but whatever it was, it wasn’t enough.
I held out a hand towards the picture. “Please,” I murmured in Chiron’s ear, almost choking on repressed sobs, “Please.”
Chiron removed the picture and handed it to me. I took it carefully, not wanting to damage this small, fragile reminder of the two lost souls. I studied it, staring at the faces of the boys as if by looking at them enough, I could bring them back to life and get to know them as I didn’t before.
“They will die,” Chiron said as he walked us back to the entranceway of the Big House. I still stared at the photo. “But at least we know they lived.”
Chiron dropped me off back at the Me Cabin. I still clutched the photo, though carefully. I would not damage this keepsake, this reminder. Kayla, Austin, and Will waited inside, cuddle nest still on the floor.
“So what did you guys talk about?” Austin asked. I showed him the photo. “Tell me,” I asked. “Who were they?”
And they did. I spent the rest of the evening listening to their stories about their brothers Michael and Lee, the times they messed up and the times they triumphed, the times they got angry, the times they were sad, and the times they glowed with joy. I smiled. They were not forgotten. And for a moment, it felt like they were still with us.

coming right back (so stay right here) - ch 1/3
read chapter 1 - read chapter 2 - read chapter 3
Summary: If anybody asks, Will always denies staring at the teen. And if Nico ever glances up at him, he always looks away before his cheeks could heat up too much.
Word Count: 1043
Prompt: “Coffee Shop” for day 15 of AUctober
Read on Ao3
Nico di Angelo. It’s embarrassing how much Will knows about him. Like that he comes into Apollo’s Kitchen, the cafe where Will works every weekend, on Sunday after 11 and leaves sometime around 12:30. Or that, no matter how sweltering the weather gets, he always orders his coffee hot. Not that he ever leaves the cafe with his coffee. That’s another thing Will knows; Nico always takes his coffee and goes and sits at the same table in the same corner, next to a big glass window, and sketches.
(What he sketches, Will couldn’t tell you. He’s too much of a wimp to go approach Nico, even Kayla tells him on a daily basis that she will physically carry him over there.)
If anybody asks, Will always denies staring at the teen. And if Nico ever glances up at him, he always looks away before his cheeks could heat up too much.
“You know, he’s a junior too,” Lou Ellen said as she leaned against the counter, Cecil right behind her. It was an unusually slow day, but Nico was in his same spot as always.  “I have a friend who goes to Jupiter Academy with him. Apparently, he dated a guy a year back,” she nudged him an elbow. When Will didn’t respond, “come on Will, we know he’s at least queer in some way,” Cecil piped in. He lowered her voice when a few people glanced up at them. “Now’s as good a time as ever.”
Will finally turned around to face them. “I’m working on it.”
***
It took him another week to initiate conversation, and, technically, it was Nico who started it.
He was sweeping the floor, trying to squeeze between two tables when he hit one with his hip. Doubled over with pain, he then proceeded to smack himself in the face with his broom.
And of course, it all happened right in front of Nico’s table.
The Italian watched the entire thing, trying to hide his amusement. “You okay there?” he asked once Will was out of danger from himself.
“Yeah,” Will said, rubbing the side of his head. Shit, that really hurt. “This is why I never joined that dance class my mom tried to convince me to. I’m way too clumsy.”
Nico laughed. “Me too. My dad tried to get me to start fencing. We settled for art instead.”
Will glanced over his shoulder at Nico’s sketchbook. “Hey, that’s really good,” he said, pointing at the pencil sketch of a teenage girl. It was more cartoony then he expected, but it still had realistic aspects to it.  He couldn’t help but think it wasn’t Nico’s first time drawing her.
“Thanks, it’s not my best work,” Nico sighed. “I’m just hoping to strike some inspiration for my final project. I need something different for my portfolio so I can ensure my spot at some art school,” he smiled, and Will hoped he would be able to see that smile forever.
“Well, I’m not much of an art person, but do something that says something about you, I guess,” Will shrugs.
“Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too,” Nico smiles again. “I just don’t know how.”
Will ignored Cecil and Lou Ellen’s relentless mocking about his flushed face by the time he made his way back over to the counter.
***
A few days passed. They talk while Nico waits for his coffee. Now, when they make eye contact, Will isn’t afraid to smile. (Turns out Nico di Angelo is the biggest dork there is). Of course, Lou Ellen and Cecil were as persistent as ever, but Will still wasn’t ready to make a move.
However, one day when they were closing and Will was cleaning off tables, he noticed a small black book off the table in the back next to the window. A few stickers covered it, plus the words Jason is the best were scribbled on the cover in silver letters. Yep, it was Nico’s.
Will told himself he wouldn’t look. He didn’t have any business in that book. It wasn’t his place. He sure wouldn’t want anyone to look through his sketchbook if he ever had one.
He told himself he wouldn’t look.
He looked.
It must be newer because hardly any pages were filled. They were all dating, starting from around 2 months ago leading up to today. The pages were filled with drawings, ranging from half-finished sketches to complete with color. Some were people, some were landscapes and places around town that Will recognized including his view from this corner table in the coffee shop. He noticed the girl that Nico was sketching the other day was a recurring character. (Will couldn’t help but wonder if she was his girlfriend).
Then, he noticed some recent drawings. Another recurring character, but this one was a boy. Curly hair, light smile, freckled face. It wasn’t until he noticed a finished drawing of the character holding a pot of coffee when he realized that this character was him.
His immediate reaction was to slam the sketchbook closed. This is none of his business.
But wasn’t it? It was drawings of him after all. Was it stalkerish or was it sweet? (Will decided it was sweet).
“What are you slamming books over there for?” Lou Ellen called from across the counter. He walked over, clutching the book to his chest.”
“Whatcha got there, cowboy?” Cecil asked him in a mock southern accent. Will rolled his eyes.
“Nico’s sketchbook.”I may have looked through it-”
“Dude, invasion of privacy much?” Lou Ellen countered.
“I know, I just… he’s drawn me okay? Like a lot. That’s a good sign right?”
“It’s a little stalkerish for my taste but-” Cecil started before Lou Ellen cut him off.
“If I say yes then will you finally ask him out?”
Will thought about it. “Maybe.”
His friends groaned unanimously.
***
Nico came running back a few hours later, apologizing profusely while asking if Will had seen his sketchbook. Their fingers brushed for a second when Will handed the book (plus an extra piece of paper hidden inside for Nico to find later) over the counter to him, and he prayed to every god he could think of that this plan would work.

Nico's Quest (happens after events of THO)
Chapter 1: Nico gets a prophecy
full story: http://archiveofourown.org/works/11403567/chapters/25542171
Summary:
Nico must go on a quest to stop Orpheus bringing back souls from the dead. there only one person who can help him out. Will
Nico was relieved when Apollo finally left, scratch that he was overjoyed. He wasn't the biggest fan of the former god. It didn't help that he managed to destroy half the camp before parting. But now that Apollo was gone they could all take a breath until the next terrible incident happened.
The night after Apollo left Nico's nightmares started again. Not that he wasn't surprised. He always had nightmares. But this nightmare was different this time. He was in his father's castle in the underworld. His psychopathic step mother Persephone sat on her throne looking bored while his father stormed around the room shouting and breaking things. Yep just a regular old day Nico thought. Eventually his father calmed down and turned. When he saw Nico standing there he straightened up.
"Good you here. Well here enough. I need you to do something" his father said.
Yep world best dad. No ‘Hi son’, no ‘How you doing son’, just ‘Hey I have more chores for you’.
"What do you need father" I spat.
"Maybe we should get a more handsome and older hero husband. Not that your children aren't capable, but it would be nice to shake thing up" Persephone interjected while filling her nails.
Hades turned towards her. "My children will do fine dearest. Plus I would rather keep this a secret, and Nico is more suited for keeping underworld problems from Zeus"
"What problem? And why can't Zeus know about it?" Nico said.
“I’ll spare you the detail but we have an escaped soul. Many souls escaped during the waking of Gea but this one in particular needs to be sent back." Hades went on walking over to his throne.
"Who is it?" Nico asked.
Hades mouth twitched as if saying the name was going to cause him to burst in flames. Persephone however interjected.
"Orpheus. The handsome lad managed to get out and is now charging wealthy families to bring back there loved one. A clever business plan if you ask me" Hades eyes flared but he ignored his wife.
"You son can see why that is an issue. If Zeus found out I had someone s telling sold back from the underworld ... Well it wouldn't be pleasant."
"So why can't you look for him yourself? I'm kind of busy at camp" Nico said.
Persephone let out a snort which Hades also ignored. Nico bunched his fist. His understood where the stereotype evil step mother came from.
"You don't think I would have him in my current possession if I could find him. Orpheus is clever. He's hiding from me. I looked all over the earth and couldn't find him anywhere. That's why I need you to look for him. Go on one of your little quest and bring him back."
Nico frowned. He was kind of fed up with going on dangerous quest for his dad. Plus he was finally enjoying camp. He really didn't want to go out on his father's errands.
"But..." Nico tried to interrupt but his father waved him silent.
"I hear you have an oracle back online. She'll give you more detail. Now I have to get back to work.” Hades said getting up.
"Wait a minute” Nico started saying but he was immediately awoken by his alarm clock.
*
Nico put his food tray down on the Apollo table a little too hard when he went for breakfast. Orange juice sloshed out of his cup and onto his pancakes. He fell down beside Will who looked up at him confused.
"Wake up on the wrong side of the coffin this morning?" Kayla joked.
Nico just frowned at his pancakes and began stabbing them with his fork. Will put a hand on his for arm.
"Everything ok Nico?" he asked.
Nico felt bad. He didn't want to upset Will. Why did he have to be so caring?
"Nothing. I just had the pleasure of taking to my father last night" Nico said. He knew he wasn't being 100% honest but he didn't think this was the time or place to talk about his inevitable quest.
Will pouted at him but didn't press him any further.
After breakfast Chiron announced that tonight they would be having a small game of captured the flag with the few year round campers to celebrate the defeat of the Colossus. Also Apollo finally leaving many campers thought.
This cheered Nico up slightly. Even thought there was only around 20 campers he still loved playing capture the flag. It was something he was actually good at. It also helped that he enjoyed showing off in front of Will. Something he would never admit to.
So at 3 o'clock they all gathered outside the forest. Nico had put on his bronze beast plate a thick wool sweater and a more ripped pair of jeans so his good ones didn't get ruined. By the forest other campers had outfitted themselves and we're helping each other strap on armour. Nico scanned the group looking for the familiar mop of blonde hair. He quickly spotter it and headed over to Will.
He grinned as Nico approached
"You’re playing today?" Nico asked skeptically with an eyebrow raised. Will didn't usually participate in capture the flag. His archery skills were mediocre at best. His hand to hand combat was a joke. And he was always needed to reattach Paolo’s limbs.
Will gave a malicious smile.
"Since Percy, Jason and the other aren’t here I thought I'd finally have the chance to wipe the floor with you." Will taunted. Nico raised both eyebrows mockingly
"Ok we will see how well that works out. I hope you brought enough ambrosia for yourself once I'm done with you." Will just smiled at blew him a kiss mockingly.
Chiron called for everyone's attention and separated them into teams. Nico was stuck with the Demeter cabin and a bunch of other not so super cabins. At least the one Ares kid was on his side.
The Demeter cabin came up with the brilliant idea of growing a giant beanstalk and putting the flag on top. Nico was unsure at first when Miranda put a tiny seed in the frozen ground and draped the flag over it. But as she knot her face in concentration the plant grew taller than the tress taking the flag with it.
Sherman came up with an attack plan and Nico made some mental notes in his head about where Sherman thought they might be able to find the flag. When the whistle went off from somewhere in the forest Nico ran a wide flank. He knew that Malkolm and the Hectate kids would make sure he couldn't shadow down travel to the flag so that left Nico with having to actually find it.
He ran thought the tress listening intently for any sounds of movement. Keeping an eye out for any signs of the enemy’s flag. He heard 2 people someone running towards him so Nico jumped up into a tree and did his best to blend in with the shadows the branches were casting. The two people stopped under the tree and looked around.
'I swear I just saw him around here' one of the people said.
Nico craned his neck to see who it was being careful not to move too much so that he stayed camouflaged in the dark. He saw a familiar mop of blonde hair that blended in with his jacket and the snow on the ground. The second person was Connor Stool. Nico gave a grin. Of course it would be will he would run into.
Nico shifted his weight and gripped his sword at a better angle. He then jumped down out of the tree and on top of Connor. Knocking him out cold. Will quickly spun around pulling out his bow and stinging it. Pointting it right at Nico. They circled slightly. Nico knew Will wasn't confident with close combat but Nico didn't like the look of the tranquilizer arrow will had sting on his bow.
"Ready to have you butt handed to you by a healer?" Will taunted with a smile
"If I were you I would watch your footing" Nico laughed.
Before Will pieced together what Nico had said Nico spun down swinging out his leg to catch Will’s causing him to trip. Will's arrow went flying but landed far away. His hand kept tight on the bow. Nico used the hilt of his blade to hit Will’s writs causing him to drop the bow while Will continued to fall back.
This was way too easy Nico thought. He stood of Will who had a disgruntled look of annoyance on his face. This now made it 15 Nico 0 will for capture the flag games. Nico smiled down at Will then offered out his hand to help him up. Will to it but grunted as he stood.
"If you tell me where the flag is I won't knock you out like Connor" Nico promised.
Will's mouth went up at one side disbelieving.
"And why would I do that Di Angelo?: Will taunted.
"Because you realize how superior I am. Also you like me" Nico mocked.
Will gave out a genuine laugh.
"Ya I guess I do really like you." Will admitted. Nico saw Wills eyes twinkle. The twinkle Will got when he was up to something. Before Nico could figure out what it was Will had rushed forward and brought Nico up into a kiss. His arms wrapped around Nico like vipers.
Nico stood shocked for a second but then returned the kiss. He sheathed his sword so he could put both hands on Wills hips. Suddenly Will deepened the kiss. Will pushed into Nico harder an opened his mouth slightly. His tongue came out and began finding it's way into Nico's.
This was very new to Nico and his head spun. If Will hadn't been holding him up he would have fallen over. Everything became fuzzy. Then as quickly as it started it stopped. Nico noticed the sudden absence of warm against him and opened his eyes. Blinking a few times for his brain to come to from the kiss Nico saw Will holding out Nico's sword pointing it at him grinning.
"You sneaking little siren" Nico said half amused that will had the nerve to take his sword.
"Never let the enemy distract you" Will said in his mocking Chiron voice.
From in the forest they heard a shout from Sherman Yang.
"It's on Zeus’s fist!"
Nico smirked. He knew where to go now.
Before Will could reach road to stop him Nico took a step back into the shadows to get closer to the fist.
>>>
Nico stepped out of the shadows and immediately fell over. As soon as his feet touched the ground a log gong like sound reverberated around his head. It sent his head swimming in circles. His eyes unfocused and his legs tuned to jelly. He tried to stand but heard another loud gong like song which sent him back down. Blinking through the disorientation Nico realised he wasn't at Zeus’s fist. He was in the middle of a grove. Surrounded by giant tress so thickly entwined he could see the sky above.
Another gong. But this time Nico relieved it wasn't a gong. It was a voice that reverberated so loudly it shook his bones.
'Stolen soul shall find a pass If shadows fails to break the glass The musician hidden in plain sight Only the sun can find the light. Else the shadows fall to night'
The voice echoed through Nico's head. He could feel his eyes rattling inside his skull. Only two thoughts went through Nico's brain.
'Get Out'
He managed to get on his hands and knees and crawl towards the nearest tree. He used all his willpower and threw himself into shadows one more time. He didn't have a destination in mind. He only concentrated on one thing. Will. I need to find Will.
