Dusk doesn't wear much jewelry, on account of the fact that 1. He's not paid, and 2. He's a soldier. But, he does have a few pieces of jewelry.

The first, and most obvious, piece is his dogtags. Sure, they have his CT number and not much else on them, but still, he wears it around his neck every day so he classifies it as jewelry.

The second is an ear cuff. It's made of steel, and he wears it at the top of his ear. One of his brothers made it, and he feels like it differentiates him from his brothers.

been thinking it for a while but it is both an interesting and frightening thing to see more and more people in their 20s who are usually self-professed hard-leftist progressives get more and more into emotionally-driven, kneejerk 'takes' about how everything new to them is bad and evil and 'this generation' (usually people younger than them who they seem to base all their opinions on from some teens dumb tiktoks they see) is stupid and doomed and the world/'our culture' is constantly degenerating, etc. many of the people who think of themselves as radical leftists are coming out with more and more barely-formed, incoherent and emotionally-driven reactionary ideas, and respond to any criticism of these ideas with defensive appeals to disgust or a general sense of 'everyone just knows this is bad!', bypassing needing to think over their own ideas or articulate the reasons they hold them entirely in favor of reactive outrage.

it feels to me like were watching in real-time how many of us will progressively turn into reactionary liberals or right-wingers - something many of these people have observed in older people, in their parents, but believe will simply not happen to them on account of having good intentions and progressive views, which they think means they dont need to watch themselves for impulsive, reactionary thinking, and even that their kneejerk reaction to anything is automatically the correct one because they themselves are already inherently good. of course it starts with generally inconsequential takes, its not like saying 'the tiles are ugly' automatically makes you a right-winger, but i reckon the festering of such modes of thinking shows the cracks in the foundation of many peoples professed political and social beliefs.

point being, i think there certainly are discussions to be had about the ways architecture - both as a tool that serves a material need and a form of art - changes, and what we may be losing to capitalist priorities on that front, but if the only argument people are making are "its ugly and degenerates our once beautiful culture" and their defense to anyone addressing how that sounds ends at "well its still ugly!", im thinking that kind of reactionary opinion-forming is going to seep into other, more important matters sooner than they may think. sorry for the long ask!

yeah i mean i definitely don't think this is a new problem or a generational one, it's just liberal idealism, but yes this is exactly why this type of aesthetic discourse irritates me so much lol. like i've said this before in regards to clothing but aesthetic signifiers gain their meaning in a social context and conditionally. if your analysis is "it's ugly and therefore bad" you're not only attenuating an actual read of what's being signified and why, you're also just veering directly into the most boring ass "everything is worse now and change threatens me" conservatism. the idea that ugliness and beauty are not transhistorical or transcendental truths should ideally be like, a starting point to both questioning other socially mediated constructs and to then moving toward a theory of asethetics as products of social discourses and economic conditions but instead people just cannot ever fucking resist yelling about how much beige or concrete or whatever the fuck is "soulless" or "lacks artistry" agabshxhsg it's so fucking cornball. get over yourself

One of the Spelljammer-like settings I worked the most on was and alternate history where the Byzantines went into an alchemical industrial revolution, conquered Venus and Mars and then the stars (the classical constellation plus many many more made up ones). So you got this Space Roman Empire that has conquered many other civilizations, still ruled from Constantinople on Terra. So the technology is industrial but the asethetics are very much all over the place, with sailships flying on the aether powered by crystals and such.

The characters are communist revolutionaries (as in, literal communists, of course with some other kind of referents since this is alternate history) who want the overthrow the Empire, not because it was once good and now corrupted by evil forces (though of course there's a Space Rasputin) but because they're communists and so they oppose empires and want to establish the People's Galactic Republic. They don't want to return to olden days or to defeat a coming evil: they want to change established society. So you have these pair of aristocrats who join a "pirate" crew and slowly as they travel from world to world in their Space Sailship they learn about what the Empire is truly like for those outside the palace. Slowly the revolution begins. They are by the middle of the story the first ones to open fire on the gates of the Astral Palace.

The story is from then on basically taken from the Russian Revolution and Civil War with some Warlord Era China and Napoleonic France for good measure. The revolution intially triumphs, then reactionary forces gather, there is warlords and ideological infighting and tyrants who take over and more. A new order is finally established, through great sacrifice, but the story doesn't end in an utopia, just with a revolutionary state that might or not endure the tests to come. Of course, with space battles.

so i see a lot of stuff, hating on both hinata and sakura (the pink haired girl who's super strong is sakura, i think, and hinata is the one who can see really far and do chakra points and all that, i think). now don't misunderstand, i don't really make a habit of watching naruto, just some stuff here and there, plus some memes, but i still see a lot of people hating them, and i'm confused why.

the argument i see most often, for anti-sakura, is at one point, she says that she's finally caught up to naruto and sasuke, her really powerful companions. everyone is laughing and screaming about how "she's not that powerful! oh, she's awful! she just wants sasuke's attention! what a b****!"

and honestly, that's so stupid.

but i'll get to that later.

now onto hinata.

the main reason that i've seen a lot of people hate on hinata is she apparently gave up on being a shinobi, and became a housewife. "what a wimp! she's so weak! completely worthless!" and i have some thoughts about that.

so let me explain my thoughts on both.

why it's so stupid to hate sakura (for those reasons, at least) is because she might not have "caught up" to natuto and sasuke in sheer mountain-destroying, continetnt-crushing power, but she's very, VERY powerful. you know how tsuandai fought orocimaru (with jirraya, i think)? well, sakura was taught by tsunadai, and she said that sakura became more powerful than her. and i've jeard somewhere that sakura brought someone back from the dead, though that remains unsubstantiated. . .but think about it. if sakura is more powerful than tsunadai. . .hot damn, guys, that's lowkey impressive.

now, onto my reason why she IS actually as powerful as naruto and sasuke. before you all rage quit, i need to explain my thinking.

sakura is her own person. she has her own life, and, most importantly, her own powers. so yeah, she can't destroy mountains (some would argue that she COULD, but that's for later), but she can heal people like nobody's business, and shatter jaws like no one else. she can both kill and heal.

i remember kakashi, at one point, mentioning how sakura was actually her own vital part of team seven, and he has a point, that you all forget. sakura is crucial, because she can do stuff NO ONE else can. so, yeah, she can't take on the three tails and come out on top, but she can sure as hell stop you from dying, but she could just as easily kill you, too.

another thing to remember is that she's a close range (most of the time) so yeah, he attacks won't be as asethetically impressive, but they're still effective.

this is not an agrument of how sakura might be ADEQUATE, or similiar to the level of Naruto and sasuke. Thsi is an argument that says that theure powers are different, theyre talents and skills varried. it's difficult to compare the three, but sakura sure as hell is powerful, and can do stuff that naruto, sasuke, kakashi, jirraya-they can't do any of that.

now, on to hinata.

it seems most people hate her because she "she gave up." now i havent' seen that part, so i'm on shaky ground, but i'll trust the fandom, and make my thoughts.

i don't think giving up is bad.

if it's not for you, and if it hurts you and makes you unhappy. . .like, there's no shame in letting go, and moving onto something else. like, how are you all missing this?

from what i can see, hinata only tried being a shinoni, becaiuse of her father, and her cousin, and she wanted to be important, but she also wanted naruto to notice her.

i get her point, but those are some crappy motives, for staying motivated. most of those are peer pressure, which is hard and sustain, being under, and wanting to impress someone. thos are hard things to do, and she found out that it just wasn't for her. she still got the attention, and she also was able to shrug off the peer pressure of her father and cousin (nejji) and did something that made her happy. she led a happy life.

why the hell are you all so mad?

sakura tried, and you all hate her.

hinata gave up and you all hate her.

what do you want?

i think most of the anti sakura and hinata arguments break down into hatred of various characteristics in their characters. their voice, clothing, speech patter-something else, aside from their life choices.

i'm not pointing fingers, but i am saying that your arguments, the way they are, are invalid.

get some new ones.

now, sakura, she is not my favorite, nor is hinata. that spot is reserved for kakashi. but i understand their choices, and their power. they are useful people, and they serve a purpose.

i don't like naruto because he's loud and annoying. i don't like saskue because he's a dramatic goth baby who's voice is annoying. i don't like sakura because she is a little odd, i think, but she is kinda funny. i don't like tsunadai, because there's not a lot to like.

if there's something about the character you don't like, just say it.

don't, however, say things that aren't true.

⚜️ I was actually up last night until about 2:30 working on their design JKXJCFBGX so I'll share the wip here too!

⚜️ I wanted to give them a design where they kind of fit into the impossible human beauty standard?? A waist that is so thin it would be impossible to have functional organs, and a stance that looks like a human foot would break under the conditions. (I may redesign their foot shape to be more like a ballet heel, because those look absolutely horrifying and also like a murder weapon to me personally sksksks)

⚜️ Some of the things on them are self modded of course! When they first came into being and started working they were a very plain black with no details.

⚜️ The gold detailing is inspired by art neuvo, it's so beautiful, I personally love it and I can imagine them enjoying some of the arts. Which is why those little flourishes are found in their design now. Also the masked face, because those extra details aren't seen in industrious work much anymore, everything is minimalistic and straight edged typically.

⚜️ I also think they have a few parts that they occationally swap out for asethetics as well, like having a few different stylings of foot models. They do enjoy style are artistic things and I can see them doing something like that =')

⚜️ V1C3 doesn't have pain sensors, not even touch sensory ones to process things like temperature. So hot and cold sensations are extremely limited, except for some relative knowledge about things they deem to be important. Like heat that can hurt technology or when they get overheated. But even those thermometers are just internal readings, not actually felt.

⚜️ That's kind of why when they turn back on those "sensory features" it's pretty meaningful, like them stepping out of their bubble, and being in-touch with the things around them. Because typically they don't see that as nessicary. It's like their little hooman person is adding features to them, having them feel curious enough to get those features to begin with. Slowly becoming less of this beautiful cold unfeeling thing, and more human like? Which if they connected the dots and realized this, they would be disgusted. X//Dc

I think for me it's like - sure, I'd be sad if Lloyd won, because I love Antigone, I wanna talk about her, and I want others to know (or learn!) about her and love her like I do! But first of all - nearly all the 'mean' Antigone voters in the notes are saying things like "How are we losing to a Lego ninja show??" which, while not kind, isn't exactly worth the demonization to immediately assume we're obsessive shitheads who would get bots together OR SPEND MONEY (what classics tumblr user has money to spend on dumb stuff like this, are they real, how can I live like them, let me know blease) to freak out over a. a Tumblr poll. (I'm not talking abt the people who are saying watching a kid's show makes you immature or uncultured, that's silly and wrong.)

Second of all, for as many mean Antigone voters, there are JUST AS MANY Ninjago fans in the notes going "Wow, vote Lloyd to fuck over Greek mythology fans" (augh Antigone isn't even Greek mythology, stop conflating everything that's old and Greek with mythology. Actually, stop conflating everything that's Greek at all with ancient Greece and mythology, but that's a tangent-), "These pretentious shitheads deserve to lose", "Greek tragedy enjoyers are classist and no one even knows who Antigone is these days, vote Lloyd because they deserve to lose", that kind of thing. Like, nothing TERRIBLE, but it's wild to me the leaps in logic right over their hypocrisy. It's shitty to shit on someone's interests because it's media intended for a younger audience, and it's shitty to shit on someone's interests because its media written a long time ago. It's just this - hypocrisy, I think, for me. A lot of these people have come to the conclusion that because they are fans of children's media they are being persecuted, but on Tumblr, that's really not true. Most of active Tumblr watches children's media and cartoons, and that's great! There's a lot of good shows out there for kids that have great stories and messages! But they refuse to see they're doing the exact same thing they're accusing us of doing - rejecting a work and a work's fans because of how they generalize the culture. IE, classics culture has to be petty, pretentious, and shitty. That's what's making me upset. I know we have a bad rep for a reason (behold, the scores of shitty cishet rich white men and what they do with classic asethetics and work, good lord) but the same can be said of shitty kid's cartoon fans (I will not go into that kind of person but you know what I mean). There's always going to be bad people who like good things! But equating all people who like what has been a revolutionary and culturally germane tragedy for two thousand years because it is personally relevant and important to them with snobbish jerks who hate you just because you like cartoons, and then deciding there can't possibly be enough of us to win so we have to be cheating... Oisín: Blues and reds!!! In part because of the very tech asethetic, but also because those are two colors I commonly see in dullahan related artwork!

Emil: Gold. He is my little ray of sunshine, and the very Jewish ideal of being the most presentable, mixed with the color schemes of Pomefiore? Make me think of gold almost constantly. Gold, as in the ornamental beauty that is deliberately used to make something look worthy of consideration and used to make moments in time more meaningful.

Kingsley: Red. The color of blood. The color of rage. The color rivaling the heir to Briar Valley. The color of the sun as it rises with the dawn. The color of Kingsley Tyr.

René: Black, blue, and purple. For starters, these are the colors of the feathers of black swans. These are the colors often used in the Odile tutus. They remind me of the colors of Overblot. They remind me of the colors of the colors of a bruise. They remind me of the colors of a lake or the ocean at night under a full moon. Blue reminds me of calm. Purple reminds me of royalty.

Hey Quan it got me thinking I was wondering what are your headcannon on GSA Knights in order :). ( Also seeing your GSA Knights, ninjas and Star Warriors are amazing and underrated very fantastic to see them) ^w^

Waddup Mecry! I shall give you a few funny headcannons as thanks for the awesome compliment! (They'll mostky be oversimplified since I don't wanna spoil any future projects tee hee!)

Sir Arthur

As teenagers, he gifted Yamikage a gaming console so he wouldn't get bored sitting next to him in lectures. Dw, the buttons are silent and he has earphones. Also Yamikage's only there as a.... "bodyguard". He doesn't need to study lol.

Arthur's a good leader, he makes the right desicions. However, that still doesn't stop him from having lots of anxious thoughts about his leadership skills.

His favorite pasttime is stargazing. It was also a part of his work as a child, when he observed the nightsky to try and spot astral rebirths.

He doesn't want to be romantically involved with his wife, ever. Though they're actually pretty good friends!

Sir Nonsurat

Born on the moon, a moonborn astral.

He was raised by the Halcandrian Lunar Research Team until one day, they completely vanished. Nonsurat was safely sent home via an escape pod.

Loves everything royal, completely obssessed with the asethetic.

Arthur lets him date his wife. They're a very happy couple. :D

Loves Dragato and Falspar but he never shows it (what a tsundere!).

Anti gravity powers.

Sir Dragato

Earth and lava bending powers, a complete powerhouse. Creates rock pillars and jumps REALLY high to keep up with Arthur and Nonsurat whenever they fly.

Loves beef.

Very competitive, will do anything to win.

Despite being grateful for Yamikage's wise words of wisdom (wowie!), he still hates him. Mainly because of his behavioir and treatment towards Sir Arthur during the time they were at war against Nightmare.

Sir Falspar

The one who knows how to truly talk to Dragato.

Also Dragato's best rival.

Ice and water bending powers, does the same movements as Dragato.

Him and Dragato have amazing coordination skills. Thanks to their training as teens with Arthur and Yamikage.

Loves mayonaise.

ayo mod would u be willing to break down yuru (desmous) style ?

Yeah!! let's do this :) I'm gonna assume you meant toyhouse user Yuru (who's account is now closed) if thats not who you mean then im sorry that you're getting a style breakdown of a random user. Oops <3

so what we have here is a style that's very inspired by early 2000's work, more 'amateur' techniques used by younger DA artists. This style seems to favor palettes of white with a few saturated accents, or a neon palette with a few neutrals and a black for contrast. We have a lot of long bodies and sharp lines, with hair and fur texturing that's very 'stringy' for lack of a better word.

the artist seems to favor what i referred to earlier as 'amateur' techniques but they're used effectively!! the gradients, crunchy color fills, airbrushing, and messy linework is clearly purposeful and draws inspiration from the old emofur stylings. The eyes are very kemono-esque and the hair is often very reminiscent of older manga and anime.

I say that a lot of this is purposeful use of "amateur" technique to evoke nostalgia because in the cleaner ref sheet shown below, we see a slightly cleaner style with less airbrushing and more intentional shading and even some nice rendering on the hair.

So to summarize we have a style that utilizes these key ideas

Emofur/early 2000's nostalgia

young/amateurish aesthetics

thin messy line work

white + neutral + black + 1 saturated accent palettes

neutral + black + saturated rainbow palettes

mspaint asethetics (the out of place texturing, stamps, gradients, etc

for my personal opinions on the style! I find it very effective at what it does, it's clear about its intentions and does what it wants to very well. The one thing I would like to criticize is that a lot of these characters are lacking in unique and recognizable silhouettes. Even if you keep the same body type across your style, I think it's important to consider how you can implement props and unique outfits to create more unique designs. This also might sound odd, but yuru, if you're reading this, consider getting into 3d modelling!! I think your style would be very well suited to 3d character modeling, look at folks like dreamalgia's 3d models for examples of what i'm talking about :]

I think overall, while many people will not find this style to their tastes, it's well executed, consistent, and clear about what it wants to do. I would encourage the artist to branch out and experiment further (should they wish to do so)

I especially would encourage further exploration with the use of unique texturing and patterns, recognizable silhouettes, and different color combinations. Some of these designs feel a bit confused about where the 'central detail' is supposed to be focused on. Balancing your negative space vs occupied space more consciously would really tie this style together.

My hat goes off to this artist, i'm sad they've deactivated otherwise i would subscribe to em.

Forget the Akubi question I sent earlier. I have another one to ask. For a magical girl series, would you rather keep to its magically girly girl pastel aesthetic or go for something more occult as long as it’s themes of hope and friendship are there? You seem to praise The Owl House considerably. Even though it leans towards the classic Halloween witch asethetic then sparkly fairy princess aesthetic.

Let's go by parts, shall we?

Okay, firstly, about Akubi-chan, I don't know much about her other than she's a spinoff character from Hakushon Daimaou/Bob the Genie (she's Hakushon/Bob's daughter), and that she's summoned with a yawn, much like her father who can be summoned by sneezing.

However, I did found a YT Channel with several episodes of Akubi-chan in raw japanese, and so far, I am in love with the artstyle, it's so pleasant to look at!

Secondly, about The Owl House, as much as I tend to have a bias towards the girly PreCure-esque aesthetics of the genre, it would be nice to have something a little bit more freaky-deaky once in a while to keep things fresh, since not every girl/feminine-aligned people will enjoy the frills and ribbons (I tend to gravitate more towards the girly aesthetics because as a black woman, I crave and urge to be percieved as soft and desirable to others).

Despite my grievances with it, the dadaist aesthetics of Madoka Magica are a thing of beauty. I also used to praise Bayonetta for balancing elegant feminine aesthetics with religious horror elements (btw, that was long before Bayo3 was announced; now I just HATE her guts and I want Jeanne to be my girlfriend). Even Sailor Moon was no stranger to dark aesthetics, specially in the manga with the Infinity/Mugen Arc as its biggest example.

The Owl House is perfectly balanced, like all things should be. Unfortunately, Disney would constantly hold Dana and Co. back, specially on the queer rep department, and that has caused the story to be much shorter than the expected (though it didn't compromised the quality of the overrall story, thank Titan).

So, yeah! Sometimes it's nice change things up, because it adds a lot to the versatility of a genre!
