#Barratt & Co.
Out of curiosity: what conditioner do you use? I wanna get more into CGM/co washing but its hard to find an approved conditioner in the uk, in my experience.
Oh there's tonnes in the UK. I cowash cheap! Either Sainsbury's own brand Apple Conditioner, or Alberto Balsam silicone free raspberry, depending on what's available.
You can also condition with it (if you're just starting it's best to stick with just one conditioner and one styler anyway), but if you want something a bit more hydrating there's a few options. Most Faith in Nature ones are CG friendly, and often you can get the bottles refilled in green shops. Holland and Barratt do a range called Dr Organic. Um... Oh, I did try a Boucleme one just to see what the fuss was about, but my hair actually didn't like it much; probably just as well at £17 a bottle.
Some Cantú products are good (not all). There's something actually labelled cowash by AsIAm. Umberto Giannini Smooth As Silk, but I can only find it on Amazon. Lots of others.
The best thing to do is join a UK CGM group, they'll have lists

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — SpaceX and NASA on Sunday successfully launched their joint Crew-8 mission to the International Space Station from the NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Together, NASA and SpaceX launched a crew of four to the ISS in the Dragon spacecraft, marking SpaceX’s eighth crew rotation mission to the ISS within NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. Sunday's launch was the third attempt, after it was scrubbed twice before because of bad weather.
Engineers determined that a small crack on the hatch seal wouldn't present enough of an issue to abort the launch, and the mission achieved liftoff at 10:53 p.m. Mission crew members on the ground cheered when the first-stage booster separated and Dragon proceeded toward space shortly before 11 p.m.
The NASA astronauts are commander Matthew Dominick, pilot Michael Barratt, mission specialist Jeanette Epps and Russian Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin, who is also acting as mission specialist. It is the first mission to the ISS for all except Barratt, who is making his third visit.
The Dragon spacecraft was launched by the Falcon 9 rocket, which SpaceX describes as a “reusable, two-stage rocket,” making it the first reusable rocket of its kind. Once it detaches from Dragon, it will land at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
The crew, set to return in the fall, will spend six months at the ISS. Days ago, administrators revealed they had found a small air leak at the space station.
“It’s not an impact to Crew-8, but I didn’t want anybody to be surprised,” ISS Program Manager Joel Montalbano said at a Crew-8 mission briefing. He said that managers don’t believe the leak will affect crew safety but that “teams are watching it.”
While aboard the ISS, often referred to as a “floating laboratory," the crew will perform more than 200 science experiments as part of the long-term mission to prepare humanity for long-term stays in space.
Some of the experiments include taking stem cells to space to study their effects on degenerative disease, as well as looking at the cellular impact of microgravity and ultraviolet radiation on plants, with hopes that plants can remain an increasingly important part of nourishment during such lengthy stays.
The crew will also experiment with pressure cuffs on legs to see whether they alleviate health problems, including fluid shifts in astronauts in space experiencing weightlessness. With no gravity on the ISS, fluids in the body tend to shift upward toward the head, which can cause health problems with eye and head pressure — something astronauts are all too familiar with.
Spirulina, often used in smoothies down on Earth, is also being sent to space on the Crew-8 mission. The astronauts look to see whether microalgae could help to remove CO₂ from the air, providing both food and oxygen for astronauts.
It has been a busy year for SpaceX, which undertook almost 100 launches within the past year.
Asked about the seemingly routine nature of the increasingly busy launch schedule, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson cautioned against letting guards down.
“Spaceflight is hard. Spaceflight is risky. ... You never want to get into the frame of mind that it is so routine,” he said. “Every time we launch, it’s white-knuckle time, and especially if humans are on top.”

IFC Films and AMC+ have snapped up the U.S rights to Freegard from directors Adam Patterson and Declan Lawn.
The pic will see a theatrical release, PVOD and streaming debut on AMC+ later this summer.
The project is inspired by the chilling true story of conman Robert Freegard (James Norton) and Alice Archer (Gemma Arterton), the woman who brought him down. A master manipulator, Freegard kidnapped countless victims, convincing them he was undercover MI5. A tale of lies, loyalty, gaslighting, fear, hope, and the investigation and high-stakes manhunt, which saved the life of Freegard’s final victim.
Patterson and Lawn co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Bronner (The Mauritanian) based on the article Chasing Agent Freegard by Bronner. The pic also stars Shazad Latif (Star Trek Discovery), Marisa Abela (Industry), Edwina Findley (The Wire), Sarah Goldberg (The Dark Knight Rises), Jimmy Akingbola (Ted Lasso), and Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh).
Freegard is produced by Kitty Kaletsky, Norton, Robert Taylor, Gina Carter, Michael Bronner and Night Train CEO Herbert L Kloiber. EPs are Harold van Lier, Olivia Pahl, Jim Reeve and Robert Halmi. The film is co-produced by Rabbit Track Pictures, Night Train Media and The Development Partnership.
The deal for Freegard was negotiated by SVP of Acquisitions and Productions for IFC Films, Scott Shooman, and WME Independent on behalf of the filmmakers. Night Train Media fully funded the film and owns global rights.

Netflixable? Second funniest film ever made on the Isle of Man? "Mindhorn"
Netflixable? Second funniest film ever made on the Isle of Man? “Mindhorn”
What daft Manx nonsense is this? “Mindhorn” is a loopy British farce about a has-been TV star, his former co-star and girlfriend, his former stuntman and a real-life murder suspect so delusional he insists the actor play that part in his little cat-and-mouse game with the local Isle of Man police. Julian Barratt has the title role — or that of actor Richard Thorncroft, a few decades and many…

Co-op, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco to use virtual reality to test new environmental labelling
Tumblr media
Leading supermarkets are using virtual reality (VR) to trial environmental labels as the food industry moves towards developing a harmonised scheme.
Co-op, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco will be trialling new label formats over the summer. Recent customers from each retailer will be invited to shop in a virtual store and to share their responses. The trial will be used to assess consumer awareness and how easy the environmental label is to understand. They will also look at how information is communicated at the point of sale.
The work is being led by grocery analyst the IGD, which aims to mobilise the food industry to support a single scheme. It is being supported by a steering group of senior industry representatives who range from the retailers taking part to M&S and Nestlé, Defra, WRAP and draws on the expertise of technical consultants Anthesis.
IGD chief executive Susan Barratt says: “Environmental labelling is a very complex area, so the fact we are taking a coordinated approach to drive consensus across the whole sector, with support from leading food companies, is an incredibly important step forward.
“To be successful, any solution needs to be pragmatic, possible for the industry to adopt at scale and able to be used by businesses both large and small. We want to deliver positive, lasting change and look forward to assessing the results of these trials as they progress.”
The first phase of the research started in January 2022, under the auspices of Walnut Unlimted, to test and inform the labelling framework – such as which environmental measures should be included. Consumer research into how the labels should be designed is underway, while the designs produced will be tested in this summer’s VR trials.
Barratt says: “We recognise there is a growing appetite from all parts of the food system to measure and communicate the environmental impact of individual products, to drive positive change in consumption habits. We also know there is a real desire for collaboration, to champion a science-based approach to environmental labelling supported by robust consumer insights. We have been working in close partnership with senior industry representatives, NGOs and technical experts over the last few months to develop an environmental labelling framework; seeing this workstream now move into the trial phase is an exciting next step.” IGD shopper insight research suggests that eight in 10 UK shoppers recognise on-pack colours as a way to compare products or make healthier choices, while the same proportion can interpret nutrition labels on the front of packs.

the unadorned truth
i’m not sure if anyone needs this update - but i did so i’m sharing; the album from richard thorncroft had been set for release back in the summer. it was then delayed and the release was pushed to september 22. since that was a few weeks ago (and mr thorncroft did not send me a birthday present as expected) i checked back over at musicglue for additional updates and found the following:
the album’s new release date is october 20
it will be 140g vinyl and the sleeve will be greyback, with a “vintage feel”
A side - You Can’t Handcuff the Wind
B side - Journeyman, Electric Nights
and this delightful note from the artist -
“music is like a river, you have to immerse yourself fully before you can swim, id only dipped my toes in , now im naked and plunging into new shimmering depths , why not join me. ?”

We’re a tad mid-way through September so we might as well call it a wrap and just claim this as little-October.
Tumblr media
And with October comes the stirrings of awards season for film (tomorrow’s Emmys will close out the television awards season).  We’ve already had Venice, Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals and San Sebastian is currently being held. The film that was screened all four (and will also do London and other fests) is Jane Campion’s THE POWER OF THE DOG.
Tumblr media
Directed by Campion (THE PIANO, BRIGHT STAR, TOP OF THE LAKE) and adapted by her from Thomas Savage’s novel of the same name, the films stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee in a film - in alignment with Campion’s other work - is the epitome of a slow burn.
THE POWER OF THE DOG - (NO SPOILERS)
Tumblr media
The film centers on brothers/ranchers George (Plemons) and Phil (Cumberbatch). George, easy going and business minded is the polar opposite of perennially contentious, caustic and cruel Phil, who despite his ways, is respected by the men in their employ.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When George falls and love and marries the widowed Rose (Dunst), a mother with a teenaged son, the studious Peter).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The union proves trying for both Rose and Phil as Rose is a stranger in a strange new world surrounded by well-to-dos while drawing the ire of Phil who views Rose as -at best- an interloper coming between he and his brother or at worst, a parasite after their wealth.
Great performances, great cinematography, great score done by Radiohead lead guitarist turned noted, Oscar nominated composer Jonny Greenwood (who also scored Pablo Larrain’s SPENCER starring Kristen Stewart and reunited with Paul Thomas Anderson for the 5th time to score PTA’s upcoming film LICORICE PIZZA starring Bradley Cooper and Ben Stiller).
By all accounts THE POWER OF THE DOG is fairly faithful to the 304 page novel, but what works in literary doesn’t necessarily work for the film. With literature the reader’s imagination can do the filling of the blanks, but film - a visual medium - sometimes things can be too abstract.  The film doesn’t really gives us in way of what the characters are thinking. Just a lot of scenery and vibes. But fine film.
Great seeing Smit-McPhee grow into an excellent actor.
Tumblr media
From THE ROAD, to X:MEN: APOCALYPSE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
to the fantastic ALPHA (a film that posits how dogs were descended from wolves)
Tumblr media
-Another Cumberbatch film that debuted at Telluride and TIFF was the biopic THE ELECTRICAL LIFE OF LOUIS WAIN
Tumblr media
Co-written by Simon Stephenson (Luca) and multi-hyphenate Will Sharpe who also directed,
Tumblr media
THE ELECTRICAL LIFE OF LOUIS WAIN is just that, an electrical, whimsical look at the life of artist Louis Wain played by Cumberbatch, with Claire Foy playing his wife Emily.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And like Wain’s art,
Tumblr media
the film is filled cat. Forty non-digitized cats, appear in the film.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Please let Cumberbatch do Zoom press using this as his avatar.
Tumblr media
Sharpe appeared in one episode of SHERLOCK so this film was a reunion of sorts,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but it was moreso a reunion of the series Sharpe created and starred in FLOWERS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as THE ELECTRICAL LIFE OF LOUIS WAIN features his FLOWERS costars Julian Barratt, Olivia Colman as the film’s narrator and Sophie Di Martino (Sharpe’s real life partner and mother of his two children).
Picture of Sharpe that DiMartino took for the virtual BAFTA-TV awards.
Tumblr media
Di Martino, of course, has ties to the MCU as she recently costarred in the Disney+ series LOKI as Sylvie.
Tumblr media
Sylvie ready to cause chaos/Sophie ready to nurse.
Tumblr media
We need to see Dr. Strange and Sylvie meet up in the multiverse. Maybe he can hook her up with a new fit, too.
Tumblr media
-Sharpe has also collaborated once again with Colman in the upcoming Sky/HBO miniseries LANDSCAPERS.  Written by Colman’s husband, first time screenwriter Ed Sinclair, LANDSCAPERS stars Colman and David Thewlis based on the true story of a couple who plot to kill one of their parents.  Originally, the mini was to be directed by Alexander Payne (Election), who dropped out, allowing for Sharpe to come in to direct and lend his artistic eye to the proceedings.

'Finding Alice' star Sharon Rooney on silencing the social media bullies and why her granny was her greatest inspiration (Sunday Post, 17.1.21)
'...Fire up social media on your phone and within moments you’re free to interact with a world full of people. Holiday photos from your cousin in New Zealand? Click like!
Your pal’s video of a Yorkshire terrier that sounds like Brian Blessed? Hit retweet! Don’t like the way someone looks? Tell them to lose some weight!
Hang on, that last one is probably a bit rude. You wouldn’t wander up to a stranger in the street and casually advise them to give the sweeties a miss, not unless you were desperately craving a sore face.
Yet that kindly advice is precisely what someone like Sharon Rooney is offered when she logs into sites such as Instagram.
Sharon, who starred in Disney’s recent live action Dumbo remake, E4’s My Mad Fat Diary and hit sitcom Two Doors Down has endured her fair share of trolling.
“It’s the unsolicited medical advice I enjoy,” she laughed. “Telling me not to eat jellybeans. Thanks!
“I learned quite quickly people will pick apart anything. They will find something. Even if I was five sizes smaller, someone will tell me I looked better before. You’ll never please everyone.
“There’s a lovely mute button now. If someone writes something rude I just quietly say ‘Shhh’ to them.
“With My Mad Fat Diary I’m already saying, ‘Hello, I am fat human’. What can they say?
“I have eyes, I know what I look like and I’m fine with that. Sorry if you’re not. I’m doing OK, so please don’t worry about me.”
Tumblr media
(© Carlo Paloni/BAFTA/Shutterstock)
Sharon, 32, is doing more than OK though, which you’ll see if you tune into new ITV drama Finding Alice tonight.
She stars opposite Keeley Hawes and it’s a role that saw Sharon cross the Bodyguard star’s name off a special list.
“I’ll let you into a secret. Every actor has a dream list of people they’d love to work with and Keeley was on mine,” she said.
“I told Keeley. She just rolled her eyes and told me to shut up.
“Why would you not want to work with her? She’s fantastic in everything she does.
“Keeley’s everything I thought she would be. Whe’s one of a kind. A special human being. Look, Keeley’s not paying me to say this! Maybe she should…?”
Praising a colleague is, of course, second nature to an actor. There’s a reason they call them luvvies; plus you don’t want to end up working with someone you’ve bad-mouthed on a project in a year’s time, do you?
This isn’t merely empty platitudes for a thespian pal. Sharon’s praise is warm, generous and genuine. It’s how she herself comes across, along with a dash of wry humour.
Perhaps it’s the influence of her late granny, who Sharon describes as her soulmate.
“This sounds so cheesy but she truly was,” she added. “You know you get one human who you just chime with? I just loved her. We were two old souls.
“She taught me so much. I think grannies have that magic where they teach you to deal with life after they’re gone. I just enjoyed every minute I had with her.”
The pain and sadness we’ve all experienced over the past year, along with the forced holiday she’s had to take with being locked down, has let Sharon think about the grief she felt when her gran died.
“Even if you’re preparing for a death I don’t think it’s any easier than if it’s unexpected,” she said.
“When it is unexpected, like the way Harry dies in Finding Alice, you’re left reeling from it for so long before you can take in what’s happened.
“With Nicola, the character I play, the initial shock has happened. Her big brother has died. So how do you move forward? Grief itself is such a complicated thing. There’s no guide book. When you feel sad, you feel sad.
“Grief sneaks up on you. You think you’re fine then it appears with a ‘Hiya!’
“I still get it. I’ll think I can’t wait to show my gran something before going, ‘Oh yeah’.
“My gran spoke about it before she died. We were talking about how thinking of someone after they’ve died is like ringing a bell for them.
“She said, ‘Don’t think of me too much, hen – I’ll get no rest.’”
Tumblr media
(Sharon Rooney as Miss Atlantis with co-star DeObia Oparei in Tim Burton’s Dumbo)
Happily, Sharon brought her sardonic and garrulous Glaswegian spirit to the set of Dumbo, in which Sharon appeared alongside Hollywood legend Danny DeVito.
“You forget they’re still humans, which is easy to do when you’re standing in front of Danny DeVito. All I could think was that this was Danny DeVito. Has anyone told him?
“You just talk on set. Gab, gab, gab. That’s all we did. I was shouting over to Tim to ask for two minutes so Danny could finish his story.
“That’s Tim Burton, by the way. Listen to me, I just call him Tim now.”
Casting for a Disney blockbuster like Dumbo was straightforward, although it did come with an ironclad ban from telling her friends about the project until it was announced.
My Mad Fat Diary focused on the plus-sized character Sharon played but, since then, the roles she’s taken don’t normally specify anything about her character’s weight.
“A lot of parts I go for don’t say the character must be plus-size or look a certain way,” she said.
“I’ve only been doing this for eight years or so but for me it’s never been an issue but I know for some it has been.
“It’s about owning who you are. I realise that’s difficult because of social media. What I try to do is take jobs with people who are authentic characters.
“If it does specify a plus-size actor then my response is to ask why. Let’s investigate this.
“These days – well, before the pandemic – I would go to auditions and the room would be filled with so many different people, which I love. The room isn’t filled with girls who all look the same.
“And I love seeing a role that I didn’t get go to someone completely different to me. Well, I don’t love it because then I’ve not got the role, but it’s still nice to see.”
Tumblr media
(The cast of Finding Alice © Joss Barratt)
A closeness with her other granny (the pair are bubbled up) has developed during the lockdowns of the past year, from which Sharon has taken heart.
Other than that she’s been enjoying her break ahead of Finding Alice’s release, as well as browsing social media.
Although these days she’s a lot wiser in how she does it; retaining the enjoyment with the help of that handy mute button.
“I used to follow every celebrity and every celebrity magazine,” added Sharon. “But it just made me doubt myself. I’d go to post a video then I’d wonder if I should put more make-up on first.
“I’ve stopped doing that. On Twitter these days I post videos where I’ve just woken up.
“I mean if you do post a video where you look great and have all your make-up on, then great, but I don’t know how you do it! I look forward to my no-make-up days.
“Oh you should see the state of me. I live in loungewear now. I put on jeans the other day. What are these things? What is this material we wear? These are awful!”
Finally, some feedback with which we can all agree...' X
