"It dwarfs the Catholic Church sex scandal by victim count, and establishes the Boy Scouts of America as the largest pedophile organization in human history." - Steve Schmidt
I guess I was lucky -- I went through Scouting and the church without anybody diddling me.
I learned a great deal from the Scouts. Not so much from the church.

Wonderful Memories: Chesterfield Scouting Reservation
Yep, it's time to dredge up another Boy Scouts related memory and just like the last time, it involves the Chesterfield Scout Reservation. But this time, the post is about the Chesterfield Scout Reservation. For you see, for a week during several summers in my youth (except that one time I freaked out then flaked out to play Ghostbusters on the Wii), I would go up to the Chesterfield Scout Reservation to participate in a summer camp with activities galore. Swimming, camping, archery, knot tying, fire starting, BB Guns, canoeing, campfires and so much more. Heck, I think it's also where I first saw The Princess Bride and the first time I made Indian Pudding. There were slush puppies, campfire tales, silly skits, and once even a massive game where every group were herbivores, omnivores, carnivores, or bacteria where people had to find tokens or hunt each other down accordingly. Yeah, it wasn't perfect. Mosquitos, sickness, rifles firing and crippling social anxiety will do that to you but I do remember it fondly. Looking back, it was kind of the best parts of being a Boy Scout all rolled into one and that sounds pretty wonderful to me.
P.S. Huh, it looks like the CSR was sold to a LARPing company named Tolgy Wood in 2014. Hmmm…
BONUS WONDERFUL!!!: Before announcing what was going down for the day, the staff would shout a chant starting off with them shouting "Announcements! Announcements! Anouuuuuuuuuncements!" and reciting a messed-up nursery rhyme. This pattern would be repeated a couple of times before getting down to brass tacks. In any case, I still remember a few of these so I'm going to record them here for posterity and hilarity. If the point was to grab our attention, the routine must have worked. Ahem…
"Mary had a little lamb,
Whose fleece was white as snow,
When Mary passed the butcher's shop,
The lamb was much too slow!"
"Row row row your boat,
Gently down the stream,
HA HA! Fooled you,
It's a submarine!"
And my personal favorite:
"Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall,
All the King's horses and all the King's men,
PUSHED HIM OUT THE WINDOW,
THE WINDOW,
THE SECOND STORY WINDOW!"
