emmet already knew what happened to ingo. it was obvious. veeerrrryyyyy obvious. but not to others, he supposes. it’s fine. emmet is nothing but a patient man. he can wait a while until the others finally come across a clue.
ever since he was a boy, emmet knew more things than everyone. puzzles? he already knew the answer before being given it. new learning material. seemingly everything was memorized perfectly in mere moments. mysteries? give him one he’ll enjoy ad it’ll be done in five minutes max. of course this meant he always knew what the outcome of a battle would be but he always put his all in it. after all, a battle is not fun unless both participants are serious about it. it wouldn’t be fair to either party otherwise.
gear station already had measures in place in case if either boss or both bosses went missing. the station was using plan ingo when emmet was taken in for questioning about ingo’s disappearance. nobody in nimbasa thought of him at fault for his brother’s disappearance but it was mostly a safety precaution. also to get the league off of the city’s metaphorical back. emmet kept the knowledge of what happened to himself, it would only cause problems for the station and he would hate for his employees and passengers to deal with everything the league would have in store for them. instead, he claimed he was doing his own investigation but was being slowed down with all the work he was doing to keep the subway running. that unfortunately didn’t satisfy the league.
emmet was getting quite tired of them. verrrryyy tired. he needed a break. but he also didn’t want to leave the station. just because he knew practically everything didn’t mean he saw his employees taking charge and making him use some of his years worth of vacation days. and also sending him to hoenn of all regions. at least it isn't kalos?
now, what will he do when he's on vacation? help people. obviously. emmet is a public worker at heart and he loves to help others. he manages to set up a detective agency and get a fitting wardrobe (courtesy of elesa) in two weeks. he quickly gains notoriety in the local town's population for how quickly he's able to solve cases and how he seemingly knows everything. of course he doesn't do this under his actual name. where would the fun in that be? he gives himself a pen name, like authors do.
edogawa ranpo.
that's what the people know him as.
the people know that ranpo worked solo for two months until the mysterious additions of "edgar allan poe" and "nancy springer" to the agency. little did emmet know (even with knowing almost everything) that introducing them would kickstart another journey to go on. this time with much more on the line.

Done more thinking and I’m here again to ramble uncontrollably about this new au I’ve come up with. It’s only half thought out if I wrote this some stuff will change but it’s a plan.
Off the bat, I’m bringing up that Yokohama, the region I’m setting this in, does not have a typical gym system. It did, at one point, but Mori destroyed it because he’s a bitch like that.
Mori killed the old champion, and took of the elite four and by extension the gyms. He destroyed them, revealing himself as the leader of the Port Mafia. He made sure there was no evidence but word of mouth though, so legally he’s untouchable. All gyms are ruled by his mafioso and the elite four, his executives. With such powerfull guards, nobody could stop him. He uses his influence and gyms to steal and sell Pokémon, and kill whoever messes with him.
Dazai is his… son? Protoge? Who knows. Point is, Mori had a kid with him when he killed the champion and nobody saw it happen but the kid. Dazai told everybody that Mori defeated him in fair battle, and the old man died naturally of a heart attack, it was just bad timing that he died after their battle that only Dazai saw or knew about.
Mori does not actually battle as the champion though, he gives his Pokémon to Dazai and throws the kid at you instead. This is why he has Dazai, he’s terrifying. He had an eye for strategy like no other. His only weakness is that all his Pokémon hate him, because hes an ass. They don’t like Mori either.
Dazai is also an elite 4 member officially, but he also functions as champion. He used 12 different Pokémon but they are all Moris.
Chuuya is a young Pokémon trainer, he wanders the region with hos team, never staying in one place for long. He is well known enough, though not by name, people know of his strength in battle. Nobody knows if he had a home, nobody knows where he came from.
Dazai ends up meeting him and thought they argue constantly they become sort of friends. Chuuya let’s Dazai play with his Pokémon, and tries to teach him how great they are, how loving they can be.
Dazai, once again sneaking out to attempt death and stare at Pokémon in the forest, comes across a strange Pokémon.
It looked almost like an eevee, but it’s colours were too light from what he saw. He ran after it. He chases it through the trees until he hits something, which turns out to be Chuuya. They realize they were both chasing strange Pokémon, and team up to search.
They find two shiny eevee, coats beautifully white. Chuuya approaches then first, torching Dazai along with him. The eevee are super friendly, and they play all day.
It is getting late when Chuuya asks one of the eevee, the more energetic one who he had quickly bonded with, if it wants to come with him. It nods yes eagerly, and the other shyly approaches Dazai as if asking him for something. Chuuya smiles knowingly, handing one of his empty ultraballs over to him.
“I only carry ultra balls,” he says when Dazai asks why they couldn’t just use plain ones,
Chuuya catches his eevee quickly and hapilly, letting it back out imidietly to hug it. Dazai is more hestotant, reaching his hand with the ultra ball out slowly, the eevee leans forward and let’s itself be caught.
He lets it back out, amazed it chose him.
Chuuya and him stay there for an out her few minutes, feeding their new friends berries and rolling toys through the grass.
Dazai had to leave eventually, but he asks if Chuuya would like to come back. His voice if soft, unlike his usual teasing persona. Chuuya says yes hapilly.
Dazai hides his eevee from Mori, but hapilly bri it out later that night to show his friends, Oda and Ango. Both members of the mafia, but not gym leaders. Oda had been one of the best gym leaders, but refused to do anything dirty or evil, and had been replaced in the gym, Ango never fought, instead he worked mostly in the back end of the mafia, less hands on but just as important.
Dazai and then we’re best friends.
You know how it goes from there.
Dazai runs away, 15 and homeless he goes to find the only other person he knows. Chuuya.
Not sure where it goes from there but yeah that’s what I’ve got. Here’s some other nonsense i though of:
-Chuuya gets an umbreon probably, and I think dazai should have a sylveon just because
-Chuuya also had a Type:Null hidden away in his back pack, not even Dazai knows. He got it from the lab, that is also why he’s on the run.
-the agency is an organisation hoping to take down the Mafia and restore the fair gyn challenge. Chuuya and Dazai meet them along their journey, and end up agreeing to help them. Originally they planned to just avoid the mafia, live peacefully, but it was too tempting.
-for years the agency has succeeded in beating gym leaders, and then failed at getting badges. Mori doesn’t let anybody actually get badges, he’s not dumb. If someone challenged him in fair battle he’d be forced by law to give up his position. He could get it back but what a bother, so instead he just essentially got rid of the gym challenge. It’s hard to register, the gyms are crazy hard, and if you win you will be forced out the door with excuses before you even see a badge. With Soukoku, they get their first badges. Now the challenge is keeping them, Mori is happy to send people to steal them.
-Soukoku is terrifyingly strong, and theyre even worse together.
-Atsushi, 14, joins not long later, haunted by a legendary tiger and talented in battle though he didn’t know it.
-they all work to gather 8 badges and eventually confront Mori. The battle is not fair or just, but they kill him in the end. Dazaia deals with the legal mess and Fukuzawa takes the position of champion, placing his agents as gym members and elite four members.
-they needed the badges to get to him legally, since if they just killed him one of the elite four would take over and then nothing would be solved. So they had to beat him in battle and place their own champion who could replace all the Mafia members.
-without their leaders Dazai and Chuuya went and just demolished the mafia. Easy. Some turned good and left or became good and still work as gym leaders under Fukuzawa.
Champion: Mori
Elite 4: Kouyou, Verlaine, Ace, Dazai (missing)
Gyms:
Kaji
Akutagawa
Gin
Tachihara
Hirotsu
Higuichi
Q
Elise(?)
I don’t know what their types would be, but they don’t fully follow them. Mori allows anything, so they use whatever they want. It tricks challengers and makes everything harder. These gym leaders might change I don’t know
Anyways bye I’m done I’m tired
