December 24, 2023: King Felipe Christmas Message
Like every Christmas Eve, I have the opportunity to congratulate you on Christmas and to convey to you, along with my family, our best wishes. It is a tradition that I like to maintain and that also allows me to bring to your homes some reflections on our present and on the challenges that we face as a country.
The economic and social difficulties that affect the daily lives of many Spaniards are a concern for everyone. A concern that is expressed, especially, in relation to employment, health, the quality of education, the price of basic services. Of course also with the unacceptable violence against women or, in the case of young people, with access to housing.
So, there are many specific questions that I would like to address with you today, although tonight I want to focus on others that also have a lot to do with the development of our collective life. It is to the Constitution and to Spain that I want to refer.
This year, our Constitution has turned 45 years old. During these years of democratic life, the Constitution, which the Princess of Asturias swore on last October 31, has been uninterruptedly present in our lives. And it is, without a doubt, the best example of union and coexistence between Spaniards.
We cannot forget that one of our great assets in democracy is, precisely, that coexistence based on shared feelings and the common search for the well-being and prosperity of all.
In Asturias last October, I pointed out - and I believe so - that it is with unity, with collective effort and with attitudes of solidarity that great works are built, those that transcend people, those that last and remain in the world. time. This is how a country progresses.
Naturally, in Spain every citizen has the right to think, express themselves and defend their ideas freely and with respect for others. But democracy also requires basic and broad consensus on the principles that we have shared and that have united us for several generations.
And that union, which has deep historical and cultural roots, must rest above all on the values that govern all democratic coexistence: freedom, justice, equality, political pluralism.
These are the values that unite us, that give strength and permanence to a democratic system like ours.
And this is how our Constitution defines and establishes them, which has been the greatest political success in our recent history, and which represented the culmination of a process that deserved extraordinary admiration and international recognition.
Thanks to it, Spain managed to build and consolidate a full, open and inclusive democracy, a Social and Democratic State of Law, which has ensured our coexistence and which has allowed us to overcome various and serious crises in recent years. That is the obvious reality of our recent constitutional history.
Thanks to the Constitution we managed to overcome the division, which has been the cause of many errors in our history; that opened wounds, fractured affections and distanced people. Overcoming this division, therefore, was our main success almost 5 decades ago. Therefore, preventing the germ of discord from ever establishing itself among us is a moral duty that we all have. Because we can't afford it.
And there is another dimension of the Constitution that we often do not notice, and that is undoubtedly also very important: The one that allows us to ensure our model of life, our way of living and understanding life. Expressing yourself freely, receiving an education, having a job, or protecting yourself from illness is undoubtedly key in our daily lives. It is also important to have access to housing, start a family, have social assistance or have a decent retirement… All of these daily events - and many more - are what the Constitution protects, guarantees and protects.
For this reason, I want to claim the Constitution not only as a democratic value for the present and future, but also as an essential instrument and guarantee so that the lives of Spaniards can continue to flow with confidence, with stability, with certainty. So that we can freely enjoy a life in which each one - with their circumstances - can see their legitimate expectations, ambitions, projects and needs reasonably satisfied.
But it is evident that for the Constitution to fully develop its mission, it is not only required that we respect it, but also that we preserve its identity, what defines it, what it means; its reason for being as a collective agreement of all and among all for a shared purpose.
And, finally, it demands that we preserve its integrity as a place of mutual recognition, acceptance and encounter approved by all Spaniards, as legitimate holders of national sovereignty.
Therefore, apart from respect for the Constitution there is no democracy or possible coexistence; there are no freedoms but imposition; There is no law, but arbitrariness. Outside the Constitution there is no Spain in peace and freedom.
And together with the Constitution, Spain.
We Spaniards began a new path almost half a century ago; we did it together, democratically, in a common project. We approve a shared vision of Spain that recognizes the right of everyone to feel and be respected in their own personality and culture; with their languages, traditions and institutions.
And today, Spain is a strong society, which has demonstrated many times the values that forge our meaning as a political community:
We have been in solidarity with those who have suffered adversity;
We have had exemplary civic behavior in overcoming COVID;
We have demonstrated courage, dignity and principles in the face of terrorism;
And we have expressed and - above all - defended our constitutional values when these have been in question or put at risk.
And we have also done all of this together and in accordance with the constitutional framework, decided by all Spaniards.
The ultimate reason for our successes and progress in recent history has been precisely the unity of our country, based on our democratic values and cohesion, on the solid ties of the State with our Autonomous Communities and on the solidarity between all of them. Also based on our openness to the outside world with a deep Ibero-American and European vocation. Precisely, Spain has presided over the Council of the EU during the last semester, in which the unity of Europe has been reinforced.
I have no doubt that unity will also be the key for us to successfully face the serious and complex future challenges that Spain faces today.
To address this future, all State institutions have the duty to conduct ourselves with the greatest responsibility and always seek the general interests of all Spaniards with loyalty to the Constitution. Each institution, starting with the King, must place itself in the place that constitutionally corresponds to it, exercise the functions attributed to it and comply with the obligations and duties that the Constitution indicates to it.
We must also respect other institutions in the exercise of their own powers and mutually contribute to their strengthening and prestige. And finally we must always ensure the good name, dignity and respect of our country.
Throughout its history, for centuries, Spain has had the responsibility of influencing the course of Humanity. Likewise we've gone through periods of tragedy, silence, isolation and pain. But the Spanish people have always surpassed them; has managed to overcome, knowing how to choose its path with strength and with the pride of the people who are and want to be.
We should become more aware of the great country we have, in order to feel it more and take care of it together. In this way we will be able to better fulfill the obligation that I spoke about a few weeks ago in the Cortes: that of guaranteeing to the young generations the legacy of a united, cohesive Spain, with a will to understand, and solid in its democratic, civic and moral convictions; the legacy of a respected Spain, of a beloved Nation, in which they can continue to develop their lives freely, safely in an environment of stability and trust.
Spain will continue forward. With determination, with hope, we will do it together; aware of our historical and current reality, of our truth as a Nation. The Crown will always be on that path; not only because it is my duty as King, but also because it is my conviction.
Thank you for your time tonight and together with the Queen, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía we wish you a happy Christmas Eve, with a very special memory for those who, at this moment, with dedication, ensure the safety of everyone, and for the operation of public services.

Christmas Eve Thoughts
Dear Readers,
It's that time of year again when I take time to reflect on my year with The CP Diary. It's been a difficult year for us all, for me also, as it's the first year without my twin as I continue my life without her.
My message will read differently this year as I didn't want this year's message to be all 'doom and gloom.'
For me, Christmas is a time to reflect on the past year. It's a time to pause, to appreciate the little things. It is also a time to give back, to spread kindness and to remember those less fortunate. This year has undoubtedly been challenging for many of us. We have faced hardships, chronic illness, loss and uncertainty; but we have also shown that we can have resilience and strength.
Gratitude and compassion is also important. It is the little acts of kindness that make a difference, like the smile we offer to a stranger, or the phone call we make to check in on a loved one. It is important to cultivate these qualities in our lives, not just during Christmas, but throughout the year; also for us to come together, to support... to help those who struggle because they're dealing with mental health, or they deal with a physical disability. To be helpful because you can make a difference.
Finally, I would like to express my deep gratitude, to you my readers for reading the blog. Thank you also for your support through the year, for your kindness, and for being a part of The CP Diary community. I value and appreciate each and everyone of you.
I wish you and your loved ones a peaceful and happy Christmas. May it be a time filled with love, laughter, and memories for you to cherish.

The Christmas story is at the heart of the Christian faith, but the messages of love, hope, peace, and joy are universal.
It speaks to all of us whether we are Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, or other or no faith at all.
It speaks to all of us as human beings who are here on this earth.
To care of one another, to look out for on another, to love one another.
Our politics has gotten so angry, so mean, so partisan.
And too often, we see each other as enemies, not as neighbors.
So, my hope this Christmas season is that we take a few moments of quiet reflection.
Find that stillness at the heart of Christmas and really look at one another.
Not as Democrats or Republicans.
Not as members of Team Red or Team Blue, but as who we really are—fellow Americans, fellow human beings. Worthy of being treated with dignity and respect.
I sincerely hope this holiday season will drain the poison that has affected our politics and set us against one another.
I hope this Christmas seasons marks a fresh start for our nation because there is so much that unites us as Americans.
There is so much more that unites us than divides us.
So, this Christmas, let’s spread a little kindness, let’s be that helping hand, that strong shoulder, that friendly voice when no one else seems to care for those who are struggling in trouble and need.
It just might be the best gift you can ever give.
I wish you—and for you—and for our nation, now and always, that we will live in the light.
The light of liberty and hope, of love and generosity, of kindness and compassion, of dignity and decency.
So, from the Biden family, we wish you and your family peace, joy, health, and happiness.

We are witnessing two radically different visions of America unfold in real-time. Having just experienced Christmas through the eyes of two three-year-old(ish) granddaughters, I know which vision of America I am hoping will prevail.

Christmas Message
Change is for time but things will not change. For more than two millennium we have worshipped that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God and the Savior and Christmas is the time that we remember His birth. In all forms of government and above management Christianity is the foundation of the modern decent civilization. The first recorded vote for Leadership is recorded in the Bible, and interestingly God uses the democratic vote to make His work, where either way God can manage to work with Leaders to make the work He wants.
It is those who insist change, who push change who most do us wrong in the friendly countries of the world. Leaders have it well in hand many, many years in advance and the belittlment of the press used to be reserved only for those who won't work with the establishment, those who work against it are already involved in an attempt to overthrow right Elected Democratic government little do some of them realise it.
It is right that we believe truely God plans for us, for His people to have Prosperity, and for the good of all. And, it is right that we work to make His work that He teaches Leaders to make from Above. Solving the problems of the world mostly amounts to only a few things. Have we enough, and we have. Have we the right orders, and we have. Are we able to distribute what we have so that the free enterprise can rule the free market and those who are not able to have for themselves can have at least enough so that they can with faith believe and work to support themselves and their family and community. Some men plan long enough in advance it only takes for people to be honest and they can have anything they want.
Give something so that those without may have, spare some consideration so that those with may work God's work, and pray faithfully that we can so much as man is able do everything right and always make the right work.

You are loved beyond measure and treasured, for you are a gift to the universe. Your every loving thought sends ripples to the far reaches of the cosmos. You, dear ones, are the peace in the silent night. You are the miracle of light in a world in turmoil. You are the embodiment of the values that help humanity evolve. You, dear ones, are a gift to Life itself. Receive our love, as we celebrate the gift that you are.
We would love for you to take a little time amidst your holidays to sit and allow the peace of heaven to wash over you. If you can, take a little time to receive the gift of our love. We love to share it. We hold the vision that you will believe and receive all you wish to experience in this life rather than struggling and striving and trying to figure things out. We would love it, dear ones, if you would receive the love that is waiting because just like your holiday season demonstrates – as you give, you receive, and as you receive, you naturally give.
In the stillness of a Silent night, a baby was born in a cave, in a manger. His mother watched in wonder. His father felt a sense of humble awe, trusting that God would guide him. They were young, unmarried, and far from home. Yet in their child's eyes – as in the eyes of all newly born children – they saw the Creator's love. You came into the world, allowing that love to look through your eyes. You, too, are a miracle of love, an embodiment of the light you celebrate. You still have that within you. Sit. Breathe. Receive. Allow us to awaken and bolster that light within so that you can feel the magnitude and miracle of your own being.
In the stillness of a silent night, a tiny bit of oil was lit in the lamp. No one expected it to burn for long. It was cold and dark, and times were dangerous. As the community members again dedicated their temple to the Creator, the light burned long and bright, miraculously so. That light burns within you. Even when you feel you have little left to give to your days – little energy, little time, little money – that light of the Creator is there, ready to burn within you, ready to guide you, prepared to be the beacon inside of you that lights your way. You are not alone dear ones. The light of the Source burns within.
In the stillness of many silent nights, seeds waited in the ground until they sprouted, grew, and gave life. There came a time after nature worked her wonders for the harvest – reaping the first fruits that are a marriage of light and darkness, sun and rain, and nutrients plus waste. Those who celebrate Kwanzaa also celebrate the strength and oneness of the light within.
Dear ones, you are nothing less than an embodiment of the light that creates universes. You are the light present in the child, the lamp, and those first harvest fruits. You are an individual in a human form, but in your depths, you are one with all that is good, pure, and holy.
So no matter what is going on in your world, allow yourself to feel the miracle of light, the harvest of light, and the birth of light by simply sitting quietly on any silent night and realizing that in this love, all is calm, and all is bright.
