Steam/book 2/General Update

I am so excited to announce that the Steam Keys for Kickstarter will be sent out in the next few days. What does that mean? It means that we have a Steam release date for the public!!! Expect it to be out for purchase, September 3rd! (barring any terrible code breaks because I am so freaking nervous there is going to just be a blue screen of death for some reason). 

I am also excited to announce that the Introduction to book 2 is in beta right now. And Chapter One is being written.  Book 2 will follow much the same format as book 1. With the chapters being released to the public for free on itch.io. Early access will be available on my Patreon. I will make an announcement when that is available but the intro will just be released to everyone immediately.

Along with that, keep on the lookout for another story brewing. More on that in the next week or so. But Fall is almost here and with it, so many creative endeavors to get us through the winter.

So I wrote six novellas.

These are what I've taken to calling Sapphic Cozy Paranormal RomCom. That's a mouthful, and hard to market. Not a lot of people looking to buy this specific little genre, but everyone who has read the series has loved it.

Here's why it matters right now!

I'm writing a new series set in this world, a series of paranormal cozy mysteries with a brand new main character and supporting cast.

And in her discovery of the magical world, our new protagonist Ophelia also discovers that the previous owner of her house wrote six sapphic novellas under the pen name Bianca Gamble.

Let me be clear that I'm not self-inserting as the previous owner!

Instead, I'm blaming all the plot holes and grammar errors on a fictional dead woman who spent way too much time making up stories about the people she watched coming in and out of her favorite coffee shop.

Anything to avoid marketing my own books, right?

particularly with squid game it frustrates me when people are like. "wow they missed the point!" when i don't think that's true at all. first of all the controversy over a squid game reality tv show is going to be huge for the marketing. it's the "all publicity is good publicity" mindset. because it got people talking about it. i'm talking about it, a lot of people on twitter are talking about it - people use controversy as a direct marketing campaign these days, moreso than actual advertisements, which is also really irritating and honestly insulting.

and i feel like squid game really got a shit treatment overall, with the way people used it as clickbait online (mr beast i'm looking at you) and it's really sad to me how horribly twisted the show has become, though it's hardly the only one. with media like that, it's not that people "missed the point," it honestly feels purposefully malicious to me. it reminds me of way back when the hunger games movies were coming out, and the way they were advertised as well. it's not that they "missed the point," it's that they don't care what the point is - or they are actively trying to diminish it. the fact that these corporations can take media like squid game or hunger games, stories that have critical narratives about classism and capitalism and racism and so thoroughly strip them of that is what really depresses me.

again it makes me feel... like what's the point of even making any kind of meaningful narrative when it just feels like the industry's expectation is for it to get snatched up by amazon or netflix and be completely neutered?

i try not to think like that, but it's frustrating. art is so important when it comes to criticizing our society and the harmful institutions that oppress and kill people every single day, and i hate seeing netflix and disney and amazon trying so hard to suppress that.

so. all of that to say. it's hard being a creative right now. but i don't want people reading this as like, a doom spiral- as corny as it sounds keep writing anyways because it's important no matter what. squid game is still a meaningful show, the hunger games books are still there, so despite everything i still think just creating art and supporting each other is the best thing we can do ✌️ peace and love

Hello Everyone!

The world of the Night Market has been in crazy production in the recent weeks.  I can officially say that I have read over every inch of that nearly million word game and have cleaned up the language and coding in all the routes.  Now, I am working on adding in some scenes and branches that I have always felt needs a bit more.

Some of the things you can be expecting upon the Steam release:

A complete coding overhaul

About 5,000 more words added to the chapter with Belladonna and Kavatti

An entire new branch for the flesh pits option with Gabriel

New conversation options with Tallard

And interludes that are specific to RO’s.

That’s what I have so far at least, with more to be added I’m sure.

Furthermore, I have changed around the sexuality codes within the game to make them a bit more organic instead of you lusting after someone while being auctions off on a beach.  The amount of cringe that that was is something I apologize for. LOL! The beginning ambrosia scene has also been cleaned up a bit.

Starting next month on Patreon, I will be releasing some WIP scenes I am working on for book 2. So stayed tuned for that as well.

The last two weeks honestly feel like a bit of a fog.  I was entrenched in work almost every single day and if I wasn’t working on the Night Market, we were building a room in our house. And today we got new kittens. I may have been manic. The Steam release is still a bit away.  Every time I think I’m coming close to the end, I realize there are more things I want to tweak. More scenes I want to write. Little bits of lore that I want to include.

Thank you everyone for being so patient with me.  When the Steam release does arrive, I will be giving everyone a heads up. I will then be deleting the WIP portion of the game and replacing it with the paid version.  Hopefully I can get a better timeline of that for you all soon.

Taking RJ's broadened world from the later books and transplanting it into the early story is one of the best decisions R2J2 made. Anyone who thinks differently doesn't know what they're talking about.
