you changed… everything.
❝ because you changed me. ❞ the loving look in his eyes is unrestrained. although his response was formulated in his mind a little too late for silence not to slice through the room, Jim means those words. at least, he didn’t go with an instinctive dismissal of himself. he has ALWAYS tried his best at every turn, even when he couldn’t realize it due to his lack of belief in himself back in the day. he’d like to think he feels better about himself despite his occasional fall in his old ways. the captain is doing well & he gives his crew & his future wife all the credit for it. ❝ i am pretty sure i wouldn’t be even a fraction of the man i am today if you hadn’t been there to support me like you have. ❞

honest question for anyone who writes from billy hargrove’s pov
do you… cry? like at LEAST once a chapter i cry. not sobbing or anything but you know—like little dean winchester tears.
it’s gotten to the point where it’s tough to write in public because i don’t want to cause alarm
i’m wondering if this is common or something i should bring up with my therapist is all

Ik halsin was a last minute addition but I kinda wish he had a full romance route ngl. Like. He's not normally my type of man but I am not immune to his treetrunk arms, kindhearted gentle trustworthiness, and stupid whittling of wooden ducks. The old worn sadness in his eyes. The burden of unwanted leadership. The hundreds of years of work to correct a past percieved mistake. The unending compassion for literally everyone, but esp children & the tiefling refugees. The wanderer and free spirit who, without giving up his freedom, finally finds a purpose, a reason to stop wandering, a devoted goal for his heart. He's SAFE and KIND and I like that in a man.

Last night I was trying to find something to do with both the kids I nanny, and I asked the 7-year-old if he wanted to build one of his LEGO sets together. He got angry and stated that he only wanted to build LEGO sets with his dad because his dad was a builder, and they always built stuff together, just the two of them.
It made me think about Bruce trying to navigate a similar situation with 8-year-old Dick. Dick saying, "No, I only did so-and-so with mom/dad." And then Dick eventually coming to view Bruce as his hero, so then it turned from, "I only did this with mom/dad" to "I only do this with Bruce."
Like Alfred trying to encourage Dick to do a specific activity, and Dick furrowing his brow like, "I wanna do that with Bruce."
Or the opposite with Bruce trying to get Dick to do something, and Dick getting all huffy like, "No, that's me and Alfie's thing."

you stood up for me when no one else would
❝ because no one else at the time possessed such HIGH LEVELS OF INTELLECT like i do to wrap their heads around how wonderful you are. as smart as i am, it took me a second too. ❞ Jim explains with a lighthearted tone. it might seem like not much thought went into that remark, however he uses his self-indulgence & silliness as a means to divert the half-Vulcan’s attention from the pain that he must be feeling remembering the past. it’s a strategic choice. his best friend’s mind can be a battlefield like his is. the captain wants to protect him, even from himself if necessary. though he also means what he says, so it’s perfect. ❝ joke aside, that’s what any good friend should do for you. keep your standards high, Spock. YOU DESERVE MORE. ❞

No because, the way Stede keeps his eyes blissfully closed well after the kiss ends, and the way he looks so fondly at Ed when his eyes finally open, and the way you can see Ed’s cheeks tilt upwards with the start of his own smile, and the way Ed keeps his hand gently on Stede’s face, and the way they stay so impossibly close together, and the way Ed’s nose brushes against Stede’s because they’re so close together, and—
