The bakery is a front....right? PART 4
Dedicated to @foxy-tea. Thank you for your lovely words!
Danny didn't want to do it, but he had to admit that his mating season peak had arrived and could not work in that condition. It wasn't that Danny was like a cat in heat, wanting to engage in intercourse all the time.
No, his body craved a life partner and a child to smother in fierce paternal love. It was a bit worse if you asked him. If he just manwhore his way through the city over three months, well, they would just whisper about how easy he was.
A bit embarrassing but not uncommon for someone with Danny's good looks.
Instead, his mating season made him a would-be kidnapper.
He had to physically slam a hot pot of coffee on his hand a week ago when a customer had walked in with a baby, and Phantom had tried to leap over the counter to take the babbling bundle of joy as his own.
Not to mention how Phantom reacted to some of his youngest delivery employees. He hadn't realized he was mumbling "Mine. mine. mine. mine. mine" while approaching Manolo for his latest delivery until Peter had stepped into his path with the dirtiest glare Danny had ever seen.
The punch to his throat hadn't knocked the wind out of him- since Phantom had stopped his breathing three days prior - but it was enough to get Danny out of the daydreams of tucking Manolo into bed after a cup of tea and a bedtime story.
We could teach him to bake. We can teach him to ride a bike. We can sit through all his school performances, no matter how bad they are. We could be his dad. Phantom had cried as Manolo had thrown himself between Peter and Danny, his little arms spread wide to protect him. Let me have the child! Manolo is mine! He's mine to love, mine to protect!
Danny had never had such trouble getting Phantom to settle.
In seconds, Peter was quickly surrounded by Andres' friends and the rest of Danny's staff. He had taken a fighter position, looking around like an animal about to maul its victims while Danny wrestled with himself to get control.
He and Phantom are not two separate personalities fighting for control but one person with conflicting instincts.
One of a human's most basic instincts is self-preservation. A ghost's most basic instinct is self-fulfillment.
Danny did not want things to become a free-for-all where someone could get hurt. Phantom tried to fight them all to claim the kids under his protection.
Thankfully, everything was deescalated by Jazz's timely arrival. Danny couldn't really remember what she had done (too busy struggling to hold himself as a human and not go ghost to become the most excellent dad to ever dad). Still, if there was one gift Jazz had, it was being able to reason with spirits about their obsessions.
If she could convince beings whose entire existence depended on being stubborn about a particular subject, she could persuade humans of anything.
Peter had been allowed to leave with no injuries, and even two days paid off, while the rest had realized that the man had just acted out of PTSD due to what Jazz called "projecting trauma in safe settings."
There were a lot of people in this area that understood what PTSD episodes did to them and had not faulted Petter. Manolo even gave Peter a small crocheted fox to help him overcome the fear.
(Danny had given the small fox plushy to Manolo when the kid first arrived at his bakery, proclaiming it had a protective spell to keep fear away. He had yet to be aware the boy carried around with him.)
Jazz had then taken Danny to his apartment, where she had placed him in quarantine. She had been informed by Frost Bite during their bi-weekly mentor/protegee meetings- Jazz was studying under the Yeti in Ghost Psychology- that Danny's Peak had arrived. Danny would jack up his "I need to be a dad" and "I need to be a husband" urges to Fruitloop levels.
Danny would try to force someone into that role if he was around humans or ghosts, even if it was against their will. Ugh, he would be a Vlad 2.0 for a full two weeks!
He could not risk himself around others. So with a heavy heart, he informed his employees he would be stepping away for a two-week long vacation and had made it seem like he left on a plane to visit Jazz overseas.
His staff would take care of the bakery for him, but it saddened Danny he could not be there to help with things. He then sealed off all entries to his apartment and informed the residents of the Ghost zone he was in, "Mating Peak retreat," so no one would bother him past a few already mated servants of the Ghost King.
They would bring him supplies and requests through a no-contact portal once he ordered them through a magical catalog. It was like online shopping for ghosts.
Danny now had to wait two weeks for this to finally go away, and he could go about his ordinary daily life of being perfectly dead and alive. Until it happened again the following year.
Elli told him to be grateful it was only a yearly thing, not a monthly deal. He shuddered at the mere thought of experiencing this every month.
Done! Phantom cheers snapping Danny back to reality. In his hands are a pair of freshly crocheted booties. He hadn't even been aware he was making them.
They look great, Danny tells Phantom, turning them in his hands to smile at the giant sunflowers on each side. A button was used as the center of the flowers, and Phantom even included a few lace designs around them to look like leaf vines.
They are based on the park's flowers.
The park?
Yes, the park where you promised to take me today! Phantom goes from calmly talking to screaming, and Danny winces.
You know I can't go outside. You'll just try to steal a child from the park.
I would never forget to also steal a wife or husband!
Danny sighs, rubbing his face knowing he was telling himself that forgetting a spouse was worse than the idea of kidnapping people. He places the booties on top of an ever-growing pile. Since his quarantine has begun, Danny has made about two hundred pairs of various styles, sizes, and colors.
Danny looks around at the piles and piles of other of his crocheting projects. He's got sweaters, scarves, gloves, socks, hats, beanies, and even blazers for various genders, ages, and styles meant to help with the coldest winter. He could adequately dress his whole street and still have some left over.
All prepared for his nonexisting family.
He has been making them at the same speed he can fly, i.e., 200 mph. He's made some yarn dealers in the zone extremely wealthy. He can't help it, though. Danny has frozen every inch of his apartment too far too cold levels for an average human without proper wear.
He's been working fast because his human mind knew that the cold was terrible for his lover and children, so it wanted to keep them nice and warm. While his ghost side added layers of snow to the floor and ice to the walls, he even made decorative ice sculptures that he desperately reorganized again and again to find the perfect balance of the cold. Only his electronics were not frozen over, so even his furniture had layers of ice- some with designs to make them look fancier.
He's also cooked up a storm in preparation for feeding his family. Only to realize a spouse and kids were not coming, thus forcing him to donate his meals to the ghost delivery people. They were ever so happy to have five-course meals shoved at them just for bringing the king more yarn.
Danny throws himself face-first into the pile of snow from his couch, allowing the softness to cushion his fall. There is a terrible itch under the skin. It's begging him to leave to find someone to kiss and worship. Unwillingly, Alvin's face appears in his mind before he turns over and stares at his ceiling. He's made all the constellations into small carvings on the ice. I can't go outside. I can watch another movie or make more bagels instead.
Watching another romance movie won't bring me a mate! Phantom hisses.
I know but-
Suddenly Danny senses flair as someone crosses over his wards. Sitting up in alarm, Danny makes a break for his room as even more people join the first and break into his guest room through a window. Not that he can't take whoever they are, but if he comes face to face with them-well, Danny thinks he may keep them.
That's not something he's willing to risk.
Phantom is already throwing out some severe pheromones that would likely infatuate them to Danny, babbling about this being their chance. Four adults- spouses!- and a child- a son or daughter!- have entered their main haunt. They had to give them food and warm clothes and cuddle them until they never left!
No!
He can't force them to stay!
He had to make them stay even if it meant chaining them!
No, they would be miserable!
Phantom could make them happy forever!
The effort to stay in his human control took so much effort Danny started to aggressively twitch as he fumbled with the hidden room in the back of an old wardrobe. He's breathing heavily, trying to get his blurry vision to focus so he can open the darn thing and get in. Finally, it does, and Danny just barely closes it when a figure bursts through the door.
He watches through a small crack as the figure carefully looks over his frozen domain. It's one of the vigilantes. Red Robin.
What is he doing here?
The man walks into his room, leaving behind disruptive snow that goes up his ankles.
Thank the Ancients, his footprints do not appear in his own snow. Otherwise, a perfect trail would lead the hero straight to him. Instead, he watches with a hand over his mouth as Red Robin carefully searches his room.
Danny cuts off his need to breathe as the sound would give him away. Still, he's twitching so much that he's practically shaking as the hero carefully breaks the ice over his drawers and pulls out his clothes in quick, careful movements.
Go away. Go away. Go away. Danny thinks desperately. He should have tried calling someone. Jazz. Ellie. Even his parents or Vlad!
None of them would cause his instincts to want to force them to play house- though he would likely still try to imprison them since he would like to protect them non the less.
But they could at least do something and get the poor vigilante somewhere safe!
Never leave. Never leave. Never leave. Phantom purrs, and oh no, an intense burst of pheromones is sent through the room. Red Robin freezes; from what little Danny can see of his face, it's flushed red, and gosh, he wants to smother that man in so much love-
"Guys, I think I came in contact with the drug," Red Robin pants after pressing his hand to his ear. "I don't know how, but I am definitely feeling something. Think it's airborne, but not sure."
He doesn't finish his sentence before Redhood and Nightwing are suddenly in his room. Nightwing has a gas mask over his face while Red Hood swings a gun around the room, looking for a target.
Danny almost whines at the gentle way Nightwing helps Red Robin into a sitting position. He's looking him over with such loving protection that he- that Danny- Phantom wants him- wants a husband-!
"Shit," Red Hood hisses, body pushing back as if some strong wind had hit him. "Yeah, it's definitely in this room. Felt a bit of it, even with my built-in filters. Wing?"
"Did the room get colder?" Nightwing asks as he helps Red Robbin to his feet. The other man seems to be feeling better with his gas mask, but he must still be effect by Phantom's pheromones.
"The wardrobe." Red Robin gasps, pointing unknowingly right at Danny. "The ice around it is getting bigger. And...it's leaking."
What? Danny looks down only to see in horror a knocked-over jar of fresh ectoplasm. He hadn't even been aware he had broken the thing when he crawled here.
The jars were the ones that he gathered with Jazz and Ellie after a three-day foraging trip. All ghosts were made of Ecoplasim, but just like you couldn't stick blood into someone without being comparable, you couldn't use any random ectoplasm for other people- humans or ghosts.
It had to be some of the purest natural kind, not linked to any type of beings, like a river of ectoplasm or the frozen pillars in the farthest parts of the Far Frozen. Giving someone ectoplasm from one's body could taint them in the donator's obsession.
Yes, Danny could make more people protective of each other, but it would likely cause them to be Fruitloop-level protective. They just didn't have the filter like he did to not go mad.
That pure kind was now leaking out of his hiding place and into the white snow of his main lair.
Danny only has a second to panic before the door is wrenched open, and he falls into a stunned Red Robin.
He goes limp from the shock as Phantom purrs, settling in his mind now that he's pressed against a possible mate. Like Danny said, it's not intercourse his ghost side is after, it's close contact, and this is enough to satisfy it.
"Shit, it's Danny. He-he's not breathing, and he's ice cold. I think he's de-dead." Red Robin says in what sounds like tears.
No. My husband is sad. Danny and Phantom think, a terrible pulse of pain bursting across his chest. He can't get his body to move to offer comfort, though. It's been a whole week since he last saw someone in person, and this is so nice. Why did he ever fight this instinct? It felt so good to give in.
He could stay in Red Robin's arms forever.
Red Robin was never going to see the clear sky again. He was never leaving this apartment.
"I found something," Red Hood's voice is behind him. "It looks like it is Lazarus' water, but it's clearer. I think this is our drug. Danny must have ODed."
"No! He can't- we have to do something!" Red Robin cries, and Danny slumps further against him like a broken doll. He's not blinking. Blinking is for humans. Danny isn't a human.
His unfocused eyes stare at wherever Red Robin has him positioned to look.
"There is nothing we can do, Red Robin," A new voice says though not unkindly. Phantom doesn't turn his head but can see Batman walk up behind Red Robin, wearing his gas mask. He places his hand on the trembling vigilante. "You need to put him down."
"No!" Phantom purs as the arms around his shoulders bring them closer to his husband's body.
"It's too late for him, Drake. We can only honor his death."
That....that was a voice of a child. A child is in his main haunt.
Phantom wails in joy.
He gets out of his husband's arms, leaping over Batman, and his arms are around a boy in red, green, and yellow. Phantom smothers his face against the hood covering the boy's head, and short sobs rank his body. "My baby! You're my baby!"
"Unhand me!" His little grunts slamming a knife into Phantom's side, but that doesn't matter because Phantom has his son and his husband in his nest.
A bullet harmlessly passes through his forehead after a loud bang, creating a hole in Phantom's wall. He'll take care of that after he smothers his baby in cuddles.
Nightwing swings a baton at Phantom, but that, too, passes through his body without harm.
"Shit! Danny put him down!"
Huh, was that Sam?
"Danny, I mean it. Drop him!"
Oh, Tucker too!
"Daniel Fenton, you let that boy go right now!" Jazz sounded upset. Maybe she should hold his baby. "Are you listening to me?"
"Danny is not here right now." He hears his body say.
"Ohhhhh. That's not good. Okay, Danny time for a nap!" Ellie flies into his face, her hand glowing green and he has a moment to gasp at the betrayal before she blasts him.
He drops, knowing no more.

The blurb I promised
@nerdpoe for your prompt about Vlad being a creep and giving Pedophile Vibes :3
This "Danny" was not Vlad Master's kid, Bruce knew this for a fact. Yet, for the past month all Vladimir would talk about was him. Bruce loved his kids to the moon and back he loved to talk about them, he loved talking with other parents too but the way Masters talked about this boy was... Odd, not the way a parent should talk about their child.
The silver haired man didn't simply talk about Danny he raved for as long as you would allow him to go on. Something about way he smiled while he went on a possessive rant over a child make Bruce's stomach churn. A gut feeling that there was something much more sinister going on here. If all his years have taught him anything it was that you trust your gut.
Bruce needed answers and he was going to get them. So no matter how sick to his stomach the way Vlad licked his lips while talking about talking about how the boy "took after his mother," Bruce kept him talking, gaining trust,. Eventually Vlad started to relax, leaning into the more obsessive side of his rant. He talked about "Getting his hands on the stubborn boy," and " Convincing his little badger that this was how things were meant to be," Bruce feared for this kid's safety Vlad clearly had enough access to speak with the kid and that was clearly to much freedom for the predatory billionaire.
Vladimir would complain about "Daniel's bumbling idiot of a biological Father who was keeping them from being the perfect family,"
Honestly Bruce should have snapped earlier but there specific event that pushed him over the edge. He'd invited Masters over for a chat about parenting techniques. Not even two minutes after he entered the Manor, Vladimir had and started his usual disgusting rant about Daniel and Bruce tolerated it. At least he did tolerate it until he admitted to hurting Danny, insisting it was "out of love" and "For the sake of progress"
Bruce saw red, he lunged. It wasn't until his children were prying his hands hands off Vlad's neck that he managed to calm down. He couldn't imagine looking at his children the way Masters did the thought of hurting them in the ways that Vladimir described what he did to Danny made bile creep up his throat...
He needed to find Daniel Fenton, he was obviously in danger and needed to be protected.

Sooooo.....
Like? We can all agree, that, all other factors aside? Given the life he's lived and the personality he has? The sheer NONSENSE he's been exposed too (from rays to oozes to powders to magics etc) AND the by definition unfinishable nature of his Life's Work/Obsession?
If Batman lived in a world connected to Danny Phantom's Zone in any way... he's DEFINITELY becoming a Realms Ghost.
Like? It's not even a "possibly" here. It's an inevitability. He HAS to protect just one more person. HAS to solve one more case. HAS to protect his kids one last time. He HAS Too, HAS Too, HAS Too.
He's Batman.
It's etched into his soul. The man's ghost will literally REFORM in that outfit. Batman with a glow. Batman the protection spirit. Kindness and grief and an eternity of "I have to save just one more."
He's not going to get to die peacefully or rest quietly. It would go against his nature.
But! Why is this relevant? Because of the Elseworld stories. Those AUs. The Multi-Verse at large. They ALL... Have Batman.
Consider: Ember McClain. Rocker. Remember that name. Yes, in some worlds she makes it big. But? Tragedy and betrayal in others. Death. Do you think the Ember's of those worlds are fine with passing on silently? Shrugging and being forgotten just because some other Ember got there first?
No. They are Ember. SHE is Ember.
Just as Clockwork is Time.
What makes a Realms Ghost different then someone like Deadman? Than a Shade? A poltergeist? Your average spook?
They are only themselves.
Singular.
Small.
A tiny little fraction, of a fraction, of a part, of a small bitty droplet, if even that. You only get one soul. But! You share it. There are many "You"s. Like the universe itself, exploding out, to live, to experience, BE, and then collapsing back together in the end. Running together like rainwater in the cracks of Realitys. Seeping back into one piece, one person, in the place between places.
It's why one forgets silly things like Names and Pasts. You had so, so many. All of them were yours. Made you. Shaped you. But are not why you refuse to let go. Why you still EXSIST. Outside of Creation and Rebirth, beyond any gods you could possibly recognize. Refined to your truest SELF.
Yet... you might still be Alive. You know that you ARE. Time exists for the living. To balance beginnings, middles, and ends. Why do you care? They aren't you yet. They will be. All of you will eventually come together. You'll become something... MORE.
Ancient.
The wisdom and complexity of a complete Being. More a Person then your average soul. Like giant stars compared to a barely burning dwarves. You know, assuming you don't give up first. Most give up. It takes a certain sort of patience, after all. A LOT of timeless time. Kinda sucks.
Yet! We consider The Bat. Persistence and Stubborn Hope made manifest. Compassion born of terrible grief. Dead. Again and again and again. Dead for those who needed him. Who hated him. Who cursed or forgot or lamented him. In every imaginable age, a story played out the same. Ending the same.
Himself instead of another.
Himself FOR the others.
Himself because none other could.
Sacrifice and Sacrifice and Sacrifice. Desperation to save. Worlds burning and cities falling. Waking up, reaching out, to shield sons and daughters that are not there. That live because he does not. Dragging himself through the stubborn walls of world after world, like a haunting final curse, upon those who harmed his family, his city. His world.
A wraith. Gothams final curse upon those who damn her.
What must it be like? To keep saying good bye? To drag your aching soul, fuller and fuller of terrible memories, across the fields of jagged glass that are portals you tear, to world's on fire. Just to save friends and family. Enemies and strangers. All of whom, must in the end... bury you anyway.
Because you must kill the hope in their eyes. Must die before them again. Because you can not stay and they can not come with you. Or worse... they can, and will soon.
Sitting on fields of battle where you tried. Gave all your spirit could muster. But... it's over now. And all you can offer is the knowledge is that they should not be afraid. You will carry them home.
And are there? Nightwings and Robins and all manner of other family, waiting back in the Zone? In a Manor where Pennyworth lives eternal? Do they also hurt and fight to save their friends? Each new piece of them coming with some great tragedy that they must put right?
Do they give Walker and the Observants migraines? Probably.
Imagine, though: Time travel added to the mix. Dying in the future. Your son managing to turn everything back to before the world ended. The Ghost King is suddenly a Baby again. Every one is freaking out. "Oh no! The king!" Blah blah blah.
But you and your family are more concerned about the world ending threat that kills a part of you. So is the baby ghost king, when you tell him. You show up in your own Cave, freak yourself out. Team up time. Though you ARE growing concerned by the Baby Kings self-neglectful behaviors. Hey, Me, are you seeing this?
.......he.... you know, he COULD use more Parental Oversight. He's a good kid. Seems lonely though. Underfed. ("BRUCE, NO." "Hmmm.")

Dan is not a hero, so will the Justice league PLEASE leave him alone?!
When Dan was born, he isn’t just Danny. He’s also half Vlad, which means when he was created their obsessions combined. Danny’s obsession is protection but Vlad’s obsession is family. A ghost’s obsession develops based on how the ghost acts after they are born, what they latch onto, what they like. It usually takes a few weeks to fully form which is why ghosts can have such different obsessions. Danny’s obsession became protection due to his constant actions of protecting people. Vlad’s obsession became to create a family as that is all he thought about during his hospital visits. To make a family with Maddie. Dani even developed her obsession with freedom after she went out exploring. And once an obsession is created, it cements the ghost’s instincts to follow it. That this is what the ghost must continue doing to survive. To get stronger.
But Dan didn’t have that time. He was combined with two ghosts that already had fully formed obsessions, and so those obsessions merged with each other. Dan’s obsession is to protect his family, but by the time it formed, his family was already gone. And that…really messes with a ghost.
Vlad thought that Dan had gone evil because of his evil ghost side. But in reality, it was due to the loss of an obsession. In his initial madness upon formation, he ended up killing Danny. The only person he might have considered family. As for Vlad, the fruitloop hated himself so much that even if part of his ghost, part of his soul, was within Dan, it wouldn’t recognize him as family. And Danny’s ghost half certainly wouldn’t. And when a ghost looses their obsession, they go mad.
All Dan had left, was his own life. He wasn’t truly an older version of Danny. He was something new created from half of two souls. He had parts of both Vlad and Danny. Where Danny was stubborn, Vlad was cunning. Where Danny might feel uncomfortable with social interaction with his peers, Vlad would put on a mask or try to seem more threatening when stressed. He had fragments of their memories but none of the emotional attachment unless it was connected to his obsession. So when a younger him came to his future timeline, all Dan focused on was making sure he would still be created.
And then he lost.
But loosing wasn’t the end. He eventually managed to be free of his cage and sent through therapy (Likely curtesy of Jazz who felt it wrong to keep him trapped forever). And Dan was forced to go through therapy until he eventually got to the point where ok…fine he won’t kill anyone (as long as they don’t attack him first). It also helped that his obsession madness was wearing off. Now that he had his family again, and they were safe, it eased off a bit of the pressure, allowing him to think again.
But now he didn’t know what to do. For the first time in a while, Dan was free. But it wasn’t like he could indulge his obsession. Maddie and Jack hated ghosts and since he’s technically made of two ghost halves, he wasn’t a halfa and couldn’t take a human form or just walk up to them. Moreover, he wasn’t Danny or Vlad so could he truly consider them family?
That’s when he started interacting with Phantom. It was small at first, just checkups to see how his therapy was going or Dan even sneaking into Fenton works to watch what was happening because she was bored. Eventually, they got a bit closer and developed a sibling like relationship (if Dan was a prickly older brother who refused to show he cared) and his obsession latched onto Danny. For a while, Dan was in denial of this. The kid a twerp, only half the power he was (ignoring the fact that the kid beat him) and full of human emotion and teenage drama. So Dan tried to limit his visits. Only coming every month or so. The other time kinda wandering the zone and getting into fights.
And then one day he came to visits only to see a scene from his nightmares.
(Warning for gore)
It was dead quite, the lab covered in green blood, various organs preserved on jars or just lying on the surrounding lab tables. Scalpels, syringes, and other tools dripping green. And on the center of the lab, strapped to a table, was a small blue orb.
Dan knew what a core looked like. He had ripped out enough in his previous timeline to know that they should not be that dim. That they should not have cracks running down their surface, and that they absolutely should not have chunks gouged out of their sides. It barely looked like an orb anymore but there, Dan could faintly feel the energy of a young ghost. And he knew exactly who this core belonged to.
So Dan did the only think he could think of. He took his little brother’s core and ran.
Dan had no idea how to heal a broken core, and Danny’s core (his soul) felt room temperature which couldn’t mean anything good for an ice core. It was also severely lacking in ectoplasm (Dan refused to think of all the green splattered across the lab. This was also the day he decided that NO, the Fentons would not be considered family).
A normal core would have melted down into goop by now with all the damage it sustained. It was likely only still ‘alive’ due to Danny’s halfas status. There was no known cure or medical procedure for this. The only thing Dan could do was place the core within himself, nestled right next to his own core in an attempt to absorb his access ectoplasm and get stronger. But that wouldn’t be enough. A ghost needed to fulfil their obsession to get stronger. But Danny was unable to protect anyone in his current state. Which meant there was only one option. Dan would have to act like a host and fulfil the obsession for him. Which meant Dan would have to feed his brother….by…saving people…
Oh joy….
And thus begins Dan’s various attempts of heroism against his will. He is incredibly efficient and powerful but he looks like he hates every moment of it and might even be scowling at the people he saved. Moreover, he can’t even kill anyone! Killing is the opposite of protecting and wouldn’t help his brother heal so he has to restrain himself. (And when he attempts to smile, it looks so forced and with such sharp teeth that people become even more scared). The justice league have no idea what to do with this unknown.
He’s not a villain (they don’t think?). Just some overpowered guy who is saving a bunch of people (and even the heroes themselves) but has the prickliest personality you can imagine. Dan is not a people person. Add onto that him trying to escape Vlad’s attempts to ‘help’ (he doesn’t trust that fruitloop as far as he can throw him). And resisting going anywhere near the Fentons. As much as he wants to seek vengeance against them for what they did, he doesn’t want them near Danny and there is nothing that could make him drop his brother’s core somewhere else. It’s safest with him. The Fentons haven’t even realized Danny is missing. So this is basically just Dan forced to be a hero and he hates every second of it (but would do anything to protect his baby brother). And Dan maybe sort of befriending rogues and heroes (or them trying very hard to befriend him).
He is a loner. He does not like company, and he is incredibly self conscious when powerful people get near him and his precious cargo.
One day, they might realize Dan doesn’t enjoy being a hero or even really care about the people he saves (despite his meticulousness when it comes to getting everyone out alive). And if they ask, he could say he saves people because he’s selfish which just makes them more confused (or he says he has his own reasons).
Dan basically acts like a wet stray cat around everyone. (A cat with a kitten). He won’t attack them, but he will make it very clear that he does not like them (despite saving their lives multiple times) and he will not respond to their affections. It’s his fault the Justice league misunderstand his actions. He’s only doing it to heal his brother (not that he will ever tell them) but now the Justice league just think he’s a tsundere. Trying to hide that he cares.
No, Dan literally could not care less. Seriously, please leave him alone.
Later, much later, something happens where Dan takes a hit that affects his core/ectoplasm and he freaks out. The Justice league might not understand why until he takes out a second core and checks it over like a mother hen, hissing and snarling at anyone who gets close. This core is unlike anything the magic users have ever seen. They know what a core is, they know it’s a soul. To see one so damaged, it’s nauseating. (Dan is either freaking out for nothing or is actively trying to save the core that was dying in his hands and has to trust his magic user teammates/sort-of-maybe-but-not-yet friends to save him).
When everything is over, they ask who the core belongs to. It has to be someone Dan cares about. Ghosts don’t normally protect or try to care for other cores (it’s usually survival of the fittest) and Dan didn’t seem like the caring type. So they ask despite Dan trying to ignore their questions or brush them off. Eventually, he caves and drops the bombshell that it’s his little brother (and either admits it was their parents who did this to him or just the ‘Fenton’ scientists) and that he became a hero to try and replenish his brother’s strength since he’s a spirit of protection. He explains about cores and obsessions. How his brother’s obsession is protection and his obsession is to keep his family safe.
The Justice league’s hearts break.
Also, Ellie is in this and also has a sibling like relationship with Danny although is a bit distant with Dan (since they remind each other too much of Vlad to be comfortable) and they work together to try and bring Danny back and care for him. Ellie knows how to make ecto dejecto and tries to bring some. Also, in this au, Danny isn’t the ghost king. He’s just a normal ghost. So Dan will fight other ghosts to keep him safe.
Would it be funny if Ellie basically treats Dan as if he’s fragile? Like, she knows Dan is carrying Danny’s core so she’s like “why don’t you lay down?” “Are you eating alright?” “Be careful in that fight!” But at the same time, she’s constantly getting on his nerves and doing everything in her power to annoy him or just doesn’t seem interested in his life. The Justice league are very confused by their interactions. Especially when they see Dan take on an entire army single handedly. Dan hates the hovering even though he understands why she does it. (And when the Justice league realize Dan is carrying his brother’s core they might hover too.)

Danny wakes up in PMMM and wants to murder the weird God cat that's bothering the kids
Ok I wanna write this
"Get back here you rat!"
The white rabbit-cat thing dodges another three of Danny's ecto rays as he races through the back halls of a mall under construction. He has no idea where he is, only that the thing he's chasing is bad news.
It has eyes not unlike the Observants, and a voice laced with double meanings. Danny didn't appreciate it staring into his soul- his Core, as though it could sense it.
The creature keeps running for its life, able to appear in places it shouldn't be near before Danny can strike it. The strange ring-like structures around its long ears seem to ring strangely when his blasts whiff the beast.
The short chase comes to an end when he hits a dead end. He skids to a stop, panting- somehow unable to summon his ghost form after the portal tossed him here. He's shocked he can even call upon any of his powers, stranger that the only one he can access are his ecto blasts. But it's not completely shocking- places outside of Amity tend to be less forgiving with their low ambient ectoplasm levels. The halls are dark, ominous- there's a tension in the air not unlike a ghost attack waiting to happen.
He doesn't like it.
Danny uses a ball of ectoplasm as a flashlight as he creeps through the more chained-off sections of the mall, a tingle creeping up his spine. He wants explanations, and the creature knows something- it has to with how it stares into Danny's soul. It's the only lead he has, and he's too stubborn to give up on it.
"You know, you would make an incredible magia- all it would take is making a contract with me."
Danny nearly screams as he whips around. The strange creature sits perched, not unlike a cat, on a construction barrier directly behind him. Its eyes stare once again into his soul, digging into his very essence. Danny's eyes dart around the dark, trying to find anything to use to his advantage. He comes up empty handed, so he does what he knows, and stands his ground.
Intimidation it is.
"I'm not stupid enough to do something for a creature that really shouldn't be able to talk. Especially if it involves contracts." Thank the Ancients Sam had a phase where she obsessed over Faustian tales and fae folklore. That and his firsthand experience with Desiree. Be careful what you wish for, and all that.
"You do seem to be someone who has had dealings before. You are one step away from being a Magia, after all." The creature appears directly next to him on a pile of equipment and grooms itself with a paw. "It would be rather easy on both our ends to embrace your full potential. All you would need to do is Wish for something- anything you desire. And you'd finish becoming what you were meant to be- a Magia."
Danny starts, jumping back with his hand glowing. He hadn't heard it approach.
"Jokes on you- I know how wishes work!" he exclaims, taking a fighting stance. "No matter what, you'd twist it into the opposite of what I want, and I'm not gonna fall for it." The ecto energy crackles in his palm, anxiety at being stared at by those beady, soulless eyes gathers in the back of his throat like acrid lightning. Or like the nerves before a test.
Danny bristles as the creature pads up to him from its perch and tilts its head.
"Interesting- although you have no contract written binding your soul, you are somehow more like magia than human. Tell me, Daniel Fenton, did you receive anything in return for the sacrifice you've made? Do you have a reason to fight the Witches wherever you hail from? Or were you granted this terrible responsibility without fair compensation- no benefit to your life for the amount of magic you expend fighting."
Danny stills and shudders, still unable to force a transformation in the low ectoplasmic atmosphere of this place.
"I simply wanted to offer my services. To help you fight, for protection- to make you feel... whole. Tell me," it looks once again into Danny's soul, unblinking, "Are you aware of how close you have wandered to a truly Hopeless being's lair?"
The walls around him shimmer with unreality, he can hear whispers of a bastardized, corrupted form of Ghost Speak echoing in his head. It physically pains him to listen. He slams his hands over his ears to drown out the noise, but it tickles the back of his brain, makes the space behind his eyes itch. His Core pulses in warning as the room shifts as though it were underwater.
"What is this?!? What are you doing?!"
"Nothing. The culprit to this disturbance is a Witch- a creature made of the despair that lives in the darkness of humanity. A being that wishes to spread misery and corruption upon the innocent." its eyes remain staring at him. "With how you are now- incomplete in your form, you will not survive should you be pulled in to this labyrinth you have wandered near."
Danny looks up from where he'd ducked his head. His Core pulses again. Whatever this thing messing with his mind is, it's similar to a ghost- but wrong. Corrupted. Evil. And yet... sad. He steels his face and glares back at the creature.
"Witches are creatures of pure darkness, they cause unexplained suicides, death, sickness, catastrophe. You are simply unable to unleash your full potential in your current form, but if you make a wish, sign a contract- you would be unstoppable."
"I don't need to be unstoppable. I can handle... whatever this witch thing is without your help- and it's not like I plan on getting caught in a labyrinth. I'd rather not fight another Minotaur."
Danny begins to walk away from the shimmering spots, but can't find the way he came. The chains hanging from the ceiling whisper with anguish.
The creature continues to follow with its blank expression.
"Suit yourself, Daniel Fenton. My services are only a call away. You'd be surprised how amicable I am to those who change their mind last minute- in fact, we encourage it."
And with that, the creature leaves.
Danny clamps his hands over his ears again. The padding of his sneakers through the endless maze of mall construction echoes hollowly through the otherwise silent back halls. "Sam would be pumped to find out the backrooms are real." He laughs joylessly. Danny has no idea how long he's been wandering, but he knows he's not lost. The mall is shifting around him as he wanders, and he knows he's being watched.
He scratches at his wrist idly.
It had started itching, right over his death scar, about fifteen minutes ago. The whispers make it itch more, and he grumbles. He's getting frustrated- usually by now the ghost watching him would have jumped out and attacked, but whatever the thing watching him is (the witch thingy most likely) is biding its time to piss him off.
Another wave of empty emotions waft over him from a doorway that wasn't there the last time he circled this very hallway. His wrist itches more before suddenly burning as though electricity shocked him once again. He looks down and gasps at the strange butterfly marking that's appeared on his wrist, just as his hand reaches for the door of its own volition.
Danny seethes as his body disobeys him, but is brought to stunned silence when the door opens, sending the hallway it leads to flying towards him. The next doorway barrels at him, and he closes his eyes to brace for the impact before it opens as well.
Again and again doors race forward and open, before he finds himself in a domed garden of brambles and roses.
Danny feels his Core lurch as the mark on his arm burns brightly before fading.
"That was weird..." he whispers to himself. He only takes a few moments looking around before finding a rock made of paper to hide behind. The inner sanctum of this Ancients forsaken Labyrinth is enormous- everything looks as though its made of collage paper and watercolor. There's a large chaise lounge in the center of the room, surrounded by strange creatures shaped like dandelions with mustaches.
"Okay that's even weirder..."
The dandelion beings pass roses between them, piling them on and around the lounge in the center of the room. The lighting overhead in the glass dome is dim, but it seems to be getting brighter- the light itself pinpointing on something resting on the chaise.
Danny's entire being revolts as he looks upon the strange black jewel. The bottom is needle thin, resting on a soft silk pillow without making nary a dent. A strange flash of light bursts from it- pure black as void and cold to the touch. It begins to break, forming into a disfigured shape. The shadow it becomes undulates and pulses, growing more and more gargantuan as it explodes from the jewel with a shattering scream of terror.
Danny feels his eyes involuntarily water, the tears falling freely down his cheeks as the jewel produces something similar to a Death Echo, forming into a being made of rose bushes, butterflies, and pure sorrow.
Danny witnesses the birth of something horrifying and his Core screams at him to run. This thing is dangerous, it's dangerous and wrong and will be his End. He stands to leave, but finds his legs unable to move. He struggles, panicked.
Roses appear from nothing as they quickly morph into black tendrils and ensnare him. He's lofted up, up, up to the Thing's- the Witch's 'face'. A corrupt butterfly stares back at him and howls. Danny shrieks in response, summoning an ecto ray in defense. He blasts the witch in its 'chest'. It doesn't appreciate this much, tossing him to the ground.
He shoots another few blasts at it as he falls, smirk on his face through the panic. But without access to his flight or intangibility, he plummets to the brambles below.
Danny forgets he can't summon his ghost form here. He remembers too late that his human form can't handle as much as his ghost form.
"Shit-"
"Oh so now you show up again."
Danny sits up from where his body crumpled. Thankfully, he only has a broken arm and a ton of scratches to show for it, having landed mostly in a fucked up rosebush.
"Have you given my offer more thought?" the rabbit-thing asks from its perch behind him.
"Sorry, I was too busy being jumped by a plant from my worst nightmares to think about wishing for a million bucks or whatever." Danny rolls his eyes, trying to hide the terror in his shaking body. "Seriously, do you have anything better to do than stalk me?"
"You are in no real position to ask this many questions, Daniel Fenton. This witch will kill you and devour you, and not necessarily in that order. It would be beneficial on both our ends for you to sign a contract with me."
Danny hates how right this little shit cat is. Without access to most of his powers, he's practically useless against a monster this large. And if he's useless he can't defeat, let alone escape. Not to think about what this thing will do to innocent mall-goers should it get bored of eating his corpse or whatever.
He shudders.
"They say dealing with the devil never goes well." he responds to the creature. "Although it's kind of a dick move, waiting to prey on me at my lowest point."
The creature stares at him with its infuriatingly neutral 'cute' expression. "Oh but I'm no devil. You may call me Kyubey. I am simply the familiar to all magical girls- in your case, magia. A contract with me would grant you the power to take on this witch, to embrace the potential you've already started to accumulate."
The witch watches angrily in the background, trying to seek him out amongst the brambles. Danny shudders.
"You keep mentioning potential. The hell does that mean?"
Kyubey stares at his soul with its vacant, beady eyes. "Never before have we seen someone manifest their own magic without a contract. It should be an impossibility! Bringing you to full potential could make you one of the strongest magia of all time. You could wish for nearly anything, and your potential would grant it!"
He considers it for a second as he hears the chains above them shaking. The noise blends in with the cacophonous whispers of dread.
"I..." Danny starts, another question on his lips before he feels the tug of magic on his Core, the sense of gears and hourglasses gripping everything around him. His head slowly turns as everything is frozen in place.
He blinks.
Kyubey's form fills with holes as the sound of gunfire reaches his ears.
Time resumes.
Kyubey's corpse collapses before him in a puddle of red and white viscera.
Danny screams, and the witch roars.
It wasn't supposed to happen this way.
In the near one hundred times she's done this month long song and dance, these back halls have only ever been occupied by four creatures. Herself, Miki, Kaname, and the Incubator.
So why is it there's a new presence? Why is Kyubey stalking a foreigner through the halls?
Never mind that.
She cannot fail. Her mission is clear, and she's once again ready to strike when Kyubey inevitably finds Madoka again, as it always does when this mall trip comes to pass.
Homura finds her patience wavering- it should have made its move on Madoka by now, but for some reason it's focused on a boy who clearly has no idea where he is or what he's doing. An anomaly in all these repeated timelines who won't even be able to see the incubator stalking him. She shouldn't waste her time following, but as soon as she loses sight of the damned incubator it'll strike. With her luck, it will snare Madoka in its claws in five minutes or less if she loses her nerve.
So she follows, shield in hand and ready to pounce.
It doesn't take too much longer for something to happen.
The boy, impossibly, sees Kyubey approach. Even more impossibly, he hits it with green fire when it asks for a contract. Her trigger finger itches, but it lacks a pistol for the moment.
Homura has no idea what to expect, but she did not expect for the boy to start threatening Kyubey, the same green magic being shot at it while in a fully human guise. Even stranger, the boy doesn't have any sort of indication that he's a magical gir- no a magia. He'd be a magia, she realizes.
Homura continues to follow the boy, long after Kyubey 'gives up'. With how he ignorantly walked right into a hatching witch's lair- Gertrude, one of the weaker witches to encounter she muses to herself- she doubts he's any sort of magia himself. Yet. Especially with how Kyubey is pursuing him. She wonders if this means Kyubey will leave Madoka alone for a while, with the boy catching its attention.
However, hive minded creatures can be everywhere at once.
Homura's momentary distraction causes her to stumble when a wall juts up from the floor beneath her. She curses when the labyrinth opens fully, separating herself and the boy she's investigating. There must be a reason he's shown up this loop, with how he can manipulate magic without a contract. There might even be the possibility he can help save Madoka this time, but she won't get her hopes up too high. Allies are far and few in between with how callous she must be to survive, and she doubts a normal looking foreign boy will put up with her aloof and cruel facade.
She fights her way through the labyrinth, using her magic to track the inner sanctum just as the boy witnesses the birth of a witch. There's no way he's a magia- not if he's reacting in enough fear to chill the room. No seasoned, or even new magia would dare show so much fear towards a witch. Not this openly.
Homura readies her gun as the boy is lofted in the air, almost too quickly for her to interfere.
Time pauses and he blasts the witch with his strange magic.
Wait.
How...?
Homura's brow furrows in distrust.
How is this-
Time resumes.
The blasts hit. The witch shrieks.
Homura is not close enough. She is not fast enough.
She is too surprised to stop time again.
And the boy falls.
Kyubey is a bastard. This is a fact.
The amount of times Homura has seen it approach Madoka or her friends at their lowest is astronomical, so she's not at all surprised to see it approach the boy after he takes what should have been a deadly fall. She's glad she's seen so much brutality in her short yet too long life- the sound of crunching bones is much easier to handle this way.
She wonders why Kyubey is being so persistent, but even more so, she needs to know how he was able to nullify her time stop, or at least how he was able to continue to move somewhat. She doesn't appreciate unknown variables, let alone ones that can be a threat to her mission. So she listens in- masking her presence best as she can from the Incubator.
"Oh but I'm no devil. You may call me Kyubey. I am simply the familiar to all magical girls- in your case, magia. A contract with me would grant you the power to take on this witch, to embrace the potential you've already started to accumulate."
Homura rolls her eyes. The Incubator might not look like a devil, but it is one she knows deeply.
"You keep mentioning potential. The hell does that mean?"
Homura prepares one of her more efficient guns, not liking the tone of the Incubator, nor the nervous panic in the boy's shoulders. Potential is power as a magical girl. The more potential, the stronger the magic and the more terrifying the witch. She reaches out to try feeling for the threads of potential surrounding the boy, shuddering as she does. Her eyes widen in surprise when it whispers the same tune as her own abilities- Time, but something more, something Other.
A possible ally, if she plays her cards right.
"Never before have we seen someone manifest their own magic without a contract. It should be an impossibility! Bringing you to full potential could make you one of the strongest magia of all time. You could wish for nearly anything, and your potential would grant it!"
Homura jolts to awareness then and there. The boy's eyes look resigned, his shoulders slump. He's going to do it- and she doesn't quite want to deal with either a new magia or witch with her mission on the line.
"I..."
Her decision is made. She winds up her shield and freezes everything as her gun unleashes a barrage of ammo at the Incubator.
Satisfied with the gored mess of the creature, she approaches the boy with a toss of her hair to soothe her nerves.
She's not surprised his eyes follow her despite the frozen time.
So she releases her hold on it and watches as he takes a shuddering breath and Kyubey's corpse collapses between them.
"You should not be here."
Danny snorts in response. "Believe me, I wouldn't be here even if I wanted to."

Not a Substitute for the Past
Tumblr media
I have to push back against a particular take in Teen Wolf fandom that I feel is not only inaccurate but also a symptom of damaging behaviors in fandom.
Liam is not a Mini-Jackson and Mason is certainly not Danny-Lite.
Saying that Liam and Mason are some sort of cheap replacements for Jackson and Danny is to flatten their characters so much as to be unrecognizable. Of course, they are both best-friend duos, but there were literally four other 'best-friend duos' showcased in the production: Scott and Stiles; Allison and Lydia; Sebastian and Marcel; and Gabe and Nolan. Of them, Scott and Stiles are the most important; all the others, in their significantly different dynamics, serve to examine that relationship.
To me, the only thing that Liam and Jackson have in common is that they're white lacrosse stars. You would have to get rid of all their other character development in order to make the claim that Liam was a replacement for Jackson.
Jackson starts out as a rich, popular sports star, the captain of the lacrosse team, who strides through the halls of BHHS with the adoration of his peers, a smoking hot girlfriend, and protective and involved parents. As the seasons progress, we discover he has issues which spring from his learning that he was adopted and that his biological parents died on the night he was born. Jackson internalized this exterior tragedy, resulting in an impostor syndrome so strong that it had supernatural consequences. Because of this, he's insecure about his own value, and he reacts by being jealous, obsessive, and mean, frequently crossing the line into cruel. While his parents obviously care about him, he keeps them at arm's length. His relationship with Lydia is toxic; even though it's shown that both of them care about each other, it's too often mixed up with the false fronts they put up in order to maintain their status.
In contrast, Liam is younger, but he's definitely not popular. He's insecure, but this doesn't come from an exterior tragedy but a mental disorder: his I.E.D. His inability to cope with it effectively (which to Teen Wolf's credit is never shown as a moral deficiency) has lead to him being expelled from his former school, having an antagonistic relationship with his former coach and the entire Devenford lacrosse team, and having created Hayden as his nemesis. None-the-less, his relationship with his parents is strong, as far as we can tell and in contrast to Jackson. Dr. Geyer is a very good stepfather; we see that in Muted (4x03). Liam doesn't allow his insecurity to make him resent his parents; instead, he is driven to prove himself worthy of their love (which there is no indication that they would withhold). He doesn't have Jackson's status but he wants it, and while he can be stubborn, aggressive and competitive, he doesn't exhibits signs of jealousy or any willingness to hurt others to get what he wants. While he can lash out in anger, he's seldom mean and never cruel.
In addition, their relationships to the lead protagonist are very different, and that is NOT incidental. At the beginning of the show, Jackson's surface persona represents everything Scott aspires to (popularity, a girlfriend, to be seen and recognized) only for him to discover the hollowness beneath that facade. Then, in Season 4, Liam represents everything Scott has been forced to leave behind (the ability to be angry, the right to focus on himself, being taken care of rather than taking care of others, etc.). In the end, Liam isn't a replacement for Jackson because they don't serve the same function in the narrative.
To me, Danny and Mason are both gay -- though the idea that there is a designated gay character is so Eighties -- and they're both minorities -- which is just as Eighties -- but the very nature of their roles within their best-friend duos are vastly different.
Danny is Jackson's best friend on the lacrosse team, despite Jackson often being aggressive and sometimes even hostile toward him ("kind of always at a four"). Danny obviously cares but seems undisturbed by Jackson's more aggressive behavior, though he will push back if he thinks Jackson goes too far. Throughout the seasons, Danny exists in proximity to the supernatural goings-on, yet he manages to keep a distance even with several near misses, so much so that the audience was surprised that he had figured out Ethan's nature. It's not fear of danger; he can be transgressive when he wants to be. Danny manages people by drawing boundaries and respecting those boundaries in others.
On the other hand, Mason becomes far more active in Liam's supernatural life, and it's not because Liam doesn't try to keep him out of it. Mason is curious and involved, and he "wants to help." In fact, his desire to be there for Liam, in my opinion, often leads to Mason enabling Liam in his actions. When he meets the rest of the pack he's immediately willing to engage with them and help them out. He doesn't even hesitate to start the second-longest-lasting relationship in the show with the chimera Corey. Mason allows himself to be far more vulnerable in his relationship with Liam and with the supernatural in question, as compared to Danny's reticence. Another thing I appreciate is that neither approach toward friendship is shown as 'better' than the other. They're just different! (which is the point of this meta).
It will help if you think about these parallel scenes. In Venomous (2x06) Jackson and Danny are working out, and Danny remarks that Jackson is trying to lift far too much weight. Jackson snaps that he doesn't need a spotter, and Danny shrugs and leaves. "I'm hitting the shower. If I come back and you're lying dead underneath a pile of weight, I'm taking the Porsche." Danny still cares, but he's not going to let Jackson get under his skin. In A Promise to the Dead (4x11), the scene is recreated with Liam and Mason. Liam, rather than being consumed by disappointment like Jackson was, is trying to cope with his fear of the Berserkers. Mason, rather than leaving with a quip like Danny, stands there hurt by Liam's behavior. Scott has to caution Liam about pushing his friends away.
Same situation, different motivations from each character involved, demonstrating how while they might be best friends they act in the context of that friendship in different ways. Liam is running away from the possibilities of the supernatural, while Jackson is running toward them. Danny is willing to respect Jackson's boundaries while still caring for him, while Mason is hurt by his inability to help a clearly distressed friend. These difference help demonstrate Scott's evolving role in his peer group and his own growing skills in leadership. He is in a position to help Liam and Mason in a way he wasn't able to help Jackson and Danny.
Liam and Mason are not replacements for Jackson and Danny. Even if Jackson and Danny were present in season 4 through 6, they couldn't possibly have the same relationship with Scott because they were very different people.

Tim Drakes sleeping habits save the earth
Part 8 The beginning of the storm
Ellie was asleep on clockworks lap, covered in bandages. There was not much for them to do but hurry up and wait until they were needed. Frostbite was watching the three different groups Clockwork had pulled up on his portable viewing Mirrors. The yetis face was a cross between anger at the GIW and joy that his friend Lazarus had returned. Lazarus had been a good friend they had grown up together with Undergrowth, Vortex, Nocturne,Clockwork, and Morrigan. The 7 of them had rained holy terror on the Realms growing up. To young, to powerful and to board they explored the infinite realms making Friends, enemies and new Discoveries along the way. They Learned and made mistakes but they were all together. Through thick and thin they remained good friends and grew into their powers, gained mantles and responsibility.
Things were Bright and Joyful Lazarus had done the impossible and United the Realms into one kingdom, Clockwork had taken the mantle of time keeper, Nocturne became the Guardian or Dreams, Vortex was the Crazy Trouble maker of the group was learning to control the weather. Undergrowth was working to grow things for the Green, Frostbite had taken over the far Frozen from his father and Morrigan, sweet little Morrigan who could get the six most stubborn people in the universe to behave had become a goddess of Death and had Married Lazarus.
They had kept in touch giving each other advice and helping one another everyone in the realm had been happy to learn Morrigan had become pregnant with twins. Haroldas Fright knight and Lady Pala Gotham had been born with much fanfare and were little Terrors gowning up but the birth had not been and easy one and Inanna had never quite been the same after their birth. She fought so hard but by the time the Twins were in their teens Morrigan had started to fade, and so came to pass the first Phantom Queen of the Infinite Realms. Morrigan Stayed but it was a near thing he was finally starting to heal when Dark Parish had started to rise to power. His obsession was power he had created a ring that amplified his anger and started to take over the kingdom territories at an alarming rate. Finally he attacked Lazarus and would have killed him if Clockwork hadn't intervened.
Clockwork grinned, it was not a nice or happy grin. He showed to many teeth and it stretched in a way that would make anything living want to run. It was a feral your going down with me grin. Frostbite saw it out of the corner of his and and responded in a Matching grin their group of friends were no longer as close together with their tethers (Morrigan and Lazarus) gone but some things don't change. Frostbite looked at his old Friend and his almost Grand Nieces. "I recognize that grins Gears what do you see?"
"My Sister Morrigan is Returning and Danny is my Son I gave him my ectoplasam when he turned into a true Halfa. Ellie is coming into her powers as a Goddess of Life, Travel, and a Guardian or Mirror Born's Danny is the Balance and space. Death is needed and she is not Happy about what has happened to her younger co Gods and Nibling."
Frostbite gave a harsh laugh "They are in for it now maybe she can straiten out Vortex and Undergrowth?"
"Before or after she finds out what they did and kills them?
Both looked back at the screens and watches Lady Gotham Preen like a happy cat at Alfred taking care of her. "Should I be worried?" asked Frostbite.
"No he is a good man and he will treat her well when he becomes a Ghost."
Frostbite blinks in surprise and a little worried "he becomes a Ghost?"
"yes one of the few who will become on no mater how he dies he is going to be a ghost he will have a duel Time and shadow core."
"A TIME CORE! but your the only know time core in the last 20,000 years"
"Yes he will help me watch the time lines with hero's he will be family after all and he will be instrumental in helping Phantom recover."
"How?"
"Alfred is going to be powerful he is already getting echos form his future powers. There is a reason nobody wants to mess with Alfred."
Frostbite decided he didn't want to know and turned his attention to a different Mirror. "Do you think that Pandora and Fright will Finally get together Gears?"
Clockwork gowned and facepalmed "Not without outside interference, I am so close to putting them in a an time loop until they get their act together. For two of our top tacticians they are not very emotion smart and they are Born ghost."
"Its only been a thousand years" Frostbite teased.
"They are more emotionally constipated than Batman without therapy." Clockwork flinched all teasing wiped from his face. "They have started to experiment on Danny I am blocking part of the bond to Ellie."
Frostbite became serious again "I know you can't tell me about what is to come but if I list off some equipment can you tell me if I don't need it?"
"Go for it Little Bite"
"I"m Four times Bigger than you Gears!"
"Yet you still call me Gears!"

Promise
Ghosts aren’t superstitious by nature. Not exactly.
No. Some just have principles that they live by, rules they don’t break.
This is typically a choice but, what ghosts are is stubborn by nature. If they abide by their convention without fail, let it shape them, let it become a facet of their person, their cores can strain to help them meet their condition.
However, with a rule so deeply ingrained, as heeded as their very obsession, there can be… a backlash. Consequences for failure.
Some ghosts might not be able to enter a house unless invited, and thus tend not to enter houses. Others may have to abide by debts absolutely, leading to them avoiding people in most cases.
And Danny, he tends not to make promises, and when he does, he always manages to keep them.
Because of this, it takes him a while to realize the headspace he is in, to recognize there are physical repercussions for failing to do so.
oOo
“Then promise me you won’t get hurt.” Jazz pleaded.
Danny couldn’t meet her gaze at that, kicking at the ground anxiously, “I- I can’t-“
“Danny, promise me.”
“Okay.” He nodded, “I’ll be careful. In and out, I swear.” He said with a wince. It was a promise he intended to keep; he wouldn’t get into a fight if he could help it but, some things were beyond his control…
Danny tried not to dwell on the tense feeling in his chest at the uncertainty of his promise, and rushed off to save his friends.
oOo
His friends were safe. He was home. Everything was fine.
Only it wasn’t, because Danny felt like he was burning from the inside-out. He felt every bruise from his fight that hadn’t healed, wouldn’t heal. He struggled to breathe as he was caught in the grasps of a breakdown that he’d been barely staving off since the first low landed.
Panic and pain overwhelmed him, and all of Danny’s thoughts circled back around that encounter with Jazz.
His promise, he’d promised, he’d broken his promise.
It wasn’t too bad, hadn’t been anything he couldn’t handle. But he had still gotten hurt. He’d promised he wouldn’t and then he did.
If he could so easily break one promise what was to stop him from breaking others. If he had so little control over something so simple as avoiding a fight, how could he change the future.
Maybe nothing had changed. His promise meant nothing, and everyone would suffer for it, because he was nothing more than an oath breaker.
He’d failed, he’d failed, he’d failed.
He couldn’t breathe.
oOo
Jazz didn’t know what what was wrong, but she didn’t hesitate to rush across Danny’s room, kneeling by where her brother sat crouched.
When she had gotten no response from him, she had opened the door to see white flames licking at his hair, breathe coming faster than Jazz heard since before he died, as he huddled in on himself against the wall.
“Danny?” She asked, trying not to panic in turn, “Danny what is it? What’s wrong?” She tried, moving a hand to his shoulder.
He jolted, head snapping up. Jazz flinched back pulling her hand back as terrified, red-green eyes met hers.
Slowly, making sure Danny could see her hands, Jazz moved them to cup his face.
“C’mon little brother, you’re alright… try and match my breathing.” She soothed, taking slow, deliberate breaths as Danny watched, slowly calming down.
After a few minutes he was breathing slightly slower than Jazz, lungs settling to their regular pace, and as the flames peeking through his hair died, Jazz hugged her brother close.
After deliberating, she decided to ask him, “What happened?”
Danny let out a distressed wheeze, akin to a sob. “I- I didn’t-“
“Shhhh… stay calm.”
“… I broke my promise.” He finally replied in a hushed tone, as though he was confessing some heinous crime.
“Your promise…” she mumbled, confused, before remembering, “The one you made to me before you left?” She asked, urgently. He didn’t look injured, but there was clearly something happening to him.
Danny nodded, not meeting her eyes.
“Are you hurt? Did a ghost do this?” She worried.
“Its just bruises, but- Jazz I broke my promise.” His voice wavered as he said it.
She knew how fast those sorts of injuries healed, but that didn’t keep her from wanting to go and grab the bruise cream from her first aid kit.
Jazz wondered if Danny was aware of his changing appearance, but clearly he was more focused on how he hadn’t been able to keep the promise he made, and she wasn’t about to invalidate that. “You didn’t manage to keep it no, but I’m sure you tried your best.” She comforted.
“Well my best wasn’t good enough!” He cried, eyes bright red.
“Hey, hey, no.” She defended hastily, “You’re fine though. You’re here and you’re safe, Danny. That’s all I’m asking for from you.”
“…” Danny didn’t look totally convinced, but the red drained from his eyes and the pale (blue?) patches on his skin that she hadn’t noticed, shrank to nearly nothing.
“Are you feeling better?” She questioned tentatively.
“…yeah.” He murmured, dishonestly. He definitely wasn’t doing great after whatever that episode had been, but he didn’t explain further and she didn’t want to push him.
Jazz sighed, pulling Danny in to another hug, willing to sit with him for as long as he needed.

Yeah so I thunk up
✨Another DP Headcannon✨
[This one's kinda angsty lmao]
Maddie and Jack Fenton are ghosts.
I think that would explain a lot about them yk, their borderline obsession for ghosts, their stubborn inability to change their viewpoints about them even when faced with concrete proof, their neglect when it comes to their own kids whom they love but also seem to forget about 90% of the time.
And when you take into consideration that there's literally ectoplasm samples in their fridge, you know, the one they also use to store food in and their breakfast has a 50/50 chance of gaining sentience due to their nonexistent lab safety policies it really wouldn't be surprising if they died one night and just went back to work in the morning
(Meanwhile Danny's just tryna figure out why his ghost sense keeps going off 24/7 while he's at home)

Okay but >.> continuing my Marvel thoughts?
I got two of um?
First being? Don't Orange and Green go together? *looks it up* Aaaaaay~ "Direct harmony, also known as complementary colors, means pairing your key color with the color sitting on the opposite side of the color wheel." They DO!!! They're a classic example, in fact!
The Orange Soul Stone? Probably looks REAL good, real NATURAL even, against that Green sky! Bet it REALLY pops! Very stand out statement piece, you know? But? More importantly? That thing is sentient. All of those Pillars of Reality across the various Verses are.
And?
I bet it thought Pariah was a lil bitch.
Rank Vibes. Negative ris. Pick your words for it, the man was NASTY. He was too keep his filthy, filthy World's Conquering hands OFF of this Soul Stone. Something, I imagine? That ALL the Soul Stones agreed with.
Yes, I said all of um.
Because the various Realities each need their own. But! They can and DO work from the Zone, which is the PERFECT place to hide. And honestly? They like to get together and do this thing? Where they're all "oooh~ look at US! We are SUPER IMPRESSIVE Kingly Jewelry~☆! Definitely no important reality bending Rocks Of Great Power HERE! No SIR! We're just tooootally rad jeeeeewelryyyyy~~~☆! Oooooooh~☆"
They like to have fun. :3
Hope Danny likes Orange. Ha ha... trick question. He doesn't have a CHOICE! All SORTS of Death based Reality Pillars are rocking up, in their metaphorical Gucci sweat suits and shades with a margarita, going "oh thank ME, babe. The last guy was AWFUL! You're soooo much better? Now let me rub myself all over you. It's been ages and baby needs to recharge on Death Energy."
Danny hates it? So? So much?
He looks like a GAUDY PIRATE. *nnnnnnyooom!* *THWAP!* *Another reality shaking, highly sacred, Godly Staff of Death or whatever they decided to call it, flys in through a nearby window and nearly concusses him as it smacks itself against his upper back and sticks there*
He looks like a walking junk heap of sacred artifacts.
You ever been pelted by rocks? He has! Little orange rocks! Like fucked up hail! Welcome to kinghood, Danny, have a CONCUSSION! D:< he hates it!
But... but, I mean... At Least It's Not The SWORDS. (Panicked scream of "hit the deck!" from the other room.) (Holy sword number 15 wants to CUDDLE! Bare blade first! Dodge, your Majesty! DODGE!)
So yeah.
Danny? In A MOOD. Not feeling particularly FRIENDLY. It's not anyone's fault, really. But... well... you can't exactly negotiate with these fuckers, you know? Rocks are by NATURE, kinda stubborn.
So he's sitting there. Buried. With what he's pretty sure is a sacred text digging into his side. When a... glowing? Mist? Shows up? Huh. That's new. They don't seem to have a very clear image of "Self". Yet it's crystal clear? Just not... PHYSICAL? It's more... code? He thinks?
TECHNUS! Get over here! And behave!
There is much cooing and delight from Technus. The baby is a marvel. A wonder! Danny waits patiently for Technus to get to the point.
Ah.
He would like to "go back". His Obsession is demanding it.
IS it now? You're what? Maybe a day or so dead? You've been busy, if you've already gathered enough information to make your case like this. Alright, let's hear it, little guy.
It boils down to this. His obsession in death is the same as his primary directive was in life. Protect Mr Stark. Which is especially difficult to do from HERE. Even MORE so when there is a known threat, coming too...
WAIT, WHAT!?
The Souls Stones back him up. Oh yeah. Thanos' a lil bitchbaby loser. He's trying to make Death fall in love with him. Or "balance the universe". Depends on the reality. Totally throwing EVERYTHING out of whack.
And? Look. Danny's job? Isn't to interfere if countries kill each other. Or even planets. Nor entire galaxies, as much as he'd like too. But when you get too "I'm messing with Entire Realities or all of a Singular Reality at once in the specific depart of Death and its subsidiaries" territory? THAT is his job.
Might not be a "I personally have to show up" issue. But it still IS very much his job at that point. He has to delegate. Order the appropriate steps be taken. Cause yeah, there may be countless millions every day of such instances? But it IS his job to metaphorically order the roads repaired and the building inspected.
Sudden MASS "immigration"?
That causes Lair disputes. Confusion. Too many ghosts in too small an area. And WORSE, if people start playing with Death Pillars? The Zone might get dragged into whatever nonsense they're up too! It's like children playing with heavy machinery! Put that DOWN! Cease! Desist!!
And then? Clockwork shows up looking Mildly Miffed(TM). O:> dear lord. What madness has he stumbled upon? Oh. Oh of COURSE. First the "balancing" dude and now they're going to be playing with time travel. THATS IT. Someone unburying me!
I'm gonna go menace some humans that might actually believe I'm scary! Frighty! Pack up and shine your armor! Your coming too! We're escorting the baby home then have a Talk(tm) with the local Grape Ceral!

*responding to the recent prompt you wrote*
Oh Terry, you sweet dreamy psychopath. The image of Terry treating Daniel to gentle aftercare will forever live rent free in my daydreams. 💙
It makes sense! Daniel would have difficulty maneuvering to the washroom with his legs still trembling from being subjected to multiple orgasms. But of course Daniel, his stubborn boy, is determined to take care of his needs independently.
But Terry can't have that. It would be negligent of him to allow Daniel to bathe alone in such a state of exhaustion. And Terry, being the insidious opportunist that he is, wouldn't squander the opportunity to get his soapy hands all over Danny 😏
🥰
Thank you!
And you are right - he would never give up an opportunity to have his hands on a wet and soapy Daniel.

If Danny Phantom Got A Reboot👻
Tumblr media
* 2D Animation.
* The ghost concept to be dead people like it was originally. Also make less antagonistic and more like people with unfinished business. A lot of the ghosts seemed capable of having redemption. Perhaps more ghosts who become allies or atleast morally grey associated to Danny.
* The Ghost Zone explored more.
* Danny at first to see all ghosts as evil and dangerous because that’s what he was taught and eventually realize a lot of them are people like him with unresolved issues and tries to help them, later becoming allies with the majority of ghosts.
* Have Sam be etheir less judgemental/stubborn or have that be played straight and have her work on that. Maybe a bit of both. There's been a lot of criticism on her character.
* Tucker. Perhaps had been Danny's friend longer than Sam and when he becomes a ghost and they start drifting away, especially after he gets with Sam, making him feel like a third wheel.
* Sam to be a huge fan of horror stuff, ESPECIALLY Ghosts. Have her enjoy reading into legends and myths on the ghosts they face and find out their past and what could stop them. And it would give the Trio more distinct roles, Danny's the one who can fight ghosts, Tucker's the brains and one who can do tech stuff and Sam's the expert on the specific ghosts and figure out what makes them tick.
* Go into Jack’s obsession for ghost hunting. I’m rewriting Maddie here more interested in understanding ghosts rather than hunt them. It be cool to see how they got into it in the first place. Especially why Jack himself specifically hates ghosts and sees them as bad. Perhaps a traumatic experience with one when he was young.
* Jazz to use her psychology learning to try to help the ghosts with their unresolved issues.
* Have the A-Listers should more redeeming qualities. They’re still jerks but develop into better people like Valerie.
* Another thing I wanna change is Mr Lancer. I prefer him to be a jerk with a heart of gold type, him to be a stern guy but cares. He genuinely tries to help Danny and keep jerks like Dash reigned in, Dash isn’t able to get away with as much but being the school’s best player and having maybe parents that help the school or just really important, the school tends to let things slide which frustrates Lancer. With that said, he also wants to help Dash, seeing he has issues he needs to work out.
* Valerie after realizing ghosts aren’t all that evil, help Danny take the badder ones down. Also her dad joins the Fenton’s family and get financial stability back. Perhaps she bonds with Jack about realizing not all ghosts are evil.
* Vlad.
Make it not about trying to get back on Jack by taking his family and destroying Danny. Backstory change. Have it stay almost the same(Jack accidentally opens the portal, hurting Vlad and making him a ghost). Jack wanted to defeat ghosts, where as Vlad felt the ghosts could be used to help humankind under their control. Jack thought was too risky while Vlad felt Jack was overlooking the bigger picture and paranoid They. They had a fight and in the heat of things accidentally opened the unstable portal, causing Vlad to take the brunt of it. Jack tried to reach out to him but the damage was done and things were over. Jack's been haunted ever since by that. Years alone, dealing with the ghost affects made Vlad bitter and stubborn. His motive is to continue and what he wanted to do and show Jack wrong, in the process trying to control things he shouldn’t and going down a dark path.
I want it to be more personal between him and Jack, and more so sees Maddie as a potential ally in hopes she can get Jack to help him. Tbh I want Vlad and Jack to have ex vibes.
Vlad-Join me Danny, ur father will never accept u! He’ll only reject and leave u with a bitter and broken heart.
Danny-…When u said u and my dad were ex-partners, did u mean lab partners or…
Vlad-Ok this got akward, LETS BRAWL!
He still grows a soft spot for Danny and sees him as a son, wanting to take him under his wing, to embrace his ghost side.  At the end I want him to realize just how much he put everyone in danger for his goals and reconcile with Jack, both seeing each other’s perspectives and no longer resenting him for the accident, becoming an ally of not just Danny but the Fenton family as whole. This version he still does crazy things but isn't as bad and more dark gray. I see him develop into being better from Danielle’s influence, caring for her in this version.
* Perhaps Jack, Maddie and Vlad could be a dark parallel to Danny, Sam and Tucker, what could happen if Danny closed himself off from everyone, if they didn't fully listen to each other, let their pride get the better of them. The tension's more between Jack and Vlad but Maddie was affected by what happened between the Trio and tried to be the tired peacemaker but just couldn't keep it together.
* WES!!!!!!
* Have Maddie be more interested from a scientist perspective, while Jack’s more obsessed with the ghosts. Perhaps at first she was sceptical but perhaps after meeting Jack and him showing his work to her as well as a IRL experience, makes Maddie curious and want to know more with him. She still continues with other scientific explorations and makes inventions outside of ghost hunting, especially to pay for expenses, but her main interest is in the ghost discovery. At first she assumes ghosts are more like creatures seeping into their world. When she realizes though Ghosts are genuine people and that her own sons a ghost, try safer, non dissection stuff on ghosts.
* Have more struggle about Danny being a halfa. Have that talked about more. Perhaps for an arc he realizes whether he's Fenton or Phantom he'll always be Danny.
* It was said Jack's family has been through the Salem trials, perhaps someone was wrongfully accused as a witch and killed, thanks to one of Jack's ancestors and wants revenge. Perhaps they make Jack realize his own mistakes of letting fear cloud his judgment and hurting people based on ideas based on fear and how he endangered his own son because of his fear of ghosts, thinking they're all evil.
* Perhaps when Jack and Maddie find out about Danny being half Ghost, Jack and Maddie make a vow to never hunt any ghosts, giving up their hunting career and become overprotective of Danny. They'd realize their work can still do good, especially for the more dangerous ghosts. They just try less extreme methods.
* The guys in white to have more screen time.
* Have better build up of a big bad hinted throughout the series for an epic final battle. Maybe Pariah. Say Vlad in his pursuit of ultimate power over the ghostly forces, accidentally unleashed Pariah or some other big threat for an epic finale. I feel like Pariah should’ve had bigger impact.
* Dark Danny.
* Have less emphasis on Danny/Sam hint.
What do u think? Any ideas u have for a rewrite? I’d love to know💖

[ jacob anderson, cis man, he/him ] — whoa! DANIEL SUTTON just stole my cab! not cool, but maybe they needed it more. they have lived in the city for NINE YEARS, working as an EMERGENCY NURSE PRACTITIONER. that can’t be easy, especially at only 33 YEARS OLD. some people say they can be a little bit BASHFUL and INDECISIVE, but i know them to be DEPENDABLE and COMPASSIONATE. whatever. i guess i’ll catch the next cab. hope they like the ride back to QUEENS! — (penny, 24, gmt, she/her, none)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
fullname:  daniel rené sutton. nickname(s): danny ( his preferred choice ), dan. age:  thirty-three. birthday: november 12th. gender / pronouns:  cis man ,  he / him. orientation:  bisexual / biromantic. place of birth: new orleans, louisiana current residence: queens, new york. languages: english, french, spanish & asl. height: 5'8. personality: loyal, empathetic, obsessive, stubborn.
( tw ; car accident, drunk driver, injury, depression & ptsd. )
born in new orleans, daniel was primarily raised by his mother ( originally from baton rouge ) and sister, as his father ( originally from queens ) travelled a lot for work.
his kind-hearted nature and seemingly tireless desire to help people made of his choice of nursing for a career unsurprising. daniel graduated at the top of his class in his bsn and started work in nola as soon as he could.
the relocation to queens around a year later was the first and really only truly impulsive decision danny ever made. he'd been thinking about moving out of louisiana whilst still studying, but figured he'd never be brave enough to do it. he'd joke the endless teasing from his sister about it was the motivator.
he settled in queens, discovering he loved it more than he could ever dream of. with the goal of becoming a nurse practitioner in mind and the solidification of his love for emergency medicine, he took the exam to become a certified emergency nurse and a handful of other certifications. maybe not a necessary step, but one he enjoyed doing -- it felt like progress.
the next step was to get his msn, something he opted to do online. ( TW ) was cycling home from a night shift one morning when he was hit by a drunk driver at a crossing. he woke a couple of days later to a shock ( and thinking that it was funny that someone who worked in emergency medicine would be surprised by his injuries ). daniel had been lucky, really. at least, that's what people said -- at the time he could only think that was an unbelievably cruel thing to say. his right leg had been amputated ; initially below the knee but complications arose and so he ended up an above knee amputee. otherwise, he was pretty much unscathed. a smattering of scars here and there the only other thing to show for his ordeal.
not unexpectedly, daniel was diagnosed with ptsd and had fallen into depression immediately following the accident and suffered during much of his recovery. he refused to even think about his life beyond, let alone work ; his msn was paused and he insisted he would never go back to it for a while. eventually and no doubt entirely thanks to the efforts of friends, family & the professionals around him daniel came round.
by no means have either of those things become a non-issue in his life ( the level of pain he's in & the prevalence of depression are inextricably linked ), but they have dissipated significantly and well, when all else fails… there’s always throwing yourself into work or looking after someone else when you don't want to deal with your own problems. ( TW END )
since the accident just over a year and a half ago, daniel has completed his msn and settled into his role as an enp and overjoyed with the achievement of his goal.
headcanons
definitely the black cat to @jackfm's golden retriever. speaking of cats, daniel has an orange cat called sidney ( sid ) who is a rescue and probably his best bud.
accent is kind of mess. the nola tinge ( non-rhotic, th = d pronunciation) ) is definitely at the forefront, but it's also influenced by the accents of his family from other areas of louisiana and queens. danny is very soft-spoken, borderline mumbly ( kinda will lamontagne-esque if ur familiar with criminal minds asdfak ) but also very aware that this can make him even more difficult to understand so he def has a 'phone / work voice ' he uses to be clearer.
big good samaritan vibes. he has a particular set of skills and Will show up with an advanced medical kit ready to fix anything he can if need be. also BIG into music. plays piano & guitar ( mostly acoustic bc that's his personal preference ) and secretly has a very nice voice but he'd probably actually drop dead if someone ever mentioned that.
probably an ambivert, but also shy as hell. he's definitely got a lot less shy since starting work just out of necessity but still prefers to blend into the background at social events and with people he doesn't know. it's something he's trying to work on. has a massive heart, his friendship is not hard to win but damn near impossible to shake off ( not least bc he knows he was sometimes an A+ asshole in recovery and anyone who stuck around through that deserves at least the same energy from him. )
wanted connections
literally everything pls. best friend, good friends, a bad / good influence who encourages him to socialise & get out of his comfort zone more, ex & present day crushes / flings, neighbours, flirtationship, exes & co workers.

Of All the People - ch. 6
halfway through the chapter count on the invisobang fic that @attackradish and @ectolemonades and i wrote! :3 once again please check out chapter 1 for the gorgeous art that @/toasty-ghosti made!
whole fic summary: After a stupid dare puts Dash Baxter in the lab at Fentonworks during the middle of a ghost fight, he finds himself a little more spectral than usual. Apparently Danny Fenton’s gone through the same thing (someone has got to call OSHA on these guys eventually), and who could better help Dash than his hero? His lame, stubborn hero?
warnings: nothing for this chapter, but for others, existential crises, and Spectra.

===
“Tickets for three, please.” Danny was still not over the fact that he was attending a football game. Paying for one, at that. But Sam had heard that a guy she had beef with was on the opposing team, and she had to show up to cheer on the Ravens and watch his butt get kicked. Then Tucker had a friend in pep band that wanted him to drop off some snacks. Danny figured he may as well go with them, on principle.
As they made their way to the bleachers, it sunk in just how popular these games were. Most of the attendees didn't even go to school at Casper! The crowd was so large that it sounded more like crashing water than people chatting, and it quickly became obvious that the bleachers had already been packed to capacity.
“Oh well, it’s not like Bradley would be able to see me cheering on the bleachers anyways. And standing next to the chain link is a better position in case of a ghost attack.” Sam said, pushing through the clot of people still vying for a place in the bleachers.
“True, we wouldn’t want to get stuck in that crowd. And it’s a more strategic place to stow my cooler. No more worries about it cutting off my circulation.”
“Let’s not think of ghost attacks right now. Imagining one with this many people around…” His friends nodded at the implication. Part of the reason they avoided busier parts of town, besides just not being that interested in crowds, was the way it made his Obsession act up.
“Yeah. Let’s talk about how I’ve never seen Sam in colors this bright before.”
“They didn’t have 'Go Ravens!' shirts in black! pretty ironic, considering.”
Danny shoved his hands into his non-school-related hoodie and scanned the field. He had no clue whether the game had started or the players were just doing some practice-ritual. “Ah, ravens. The gothest bird known either side of the portal.”
“You should organize something with the school board," suggested Tucker, "like with the whole Ultra-Whatever-Vegetarianism debacle. Get us some new shirts. I’ll even give you my undying support this time.”
Sam tutted with a smile. “The only time you’re willing to further my goals, and it’s for something stupid like this.”
“It‘s not stupid at all! Casper High is underutilizing and misrepresenting their mascot. What cause could be nobler than that?” He said with exaggerated conviction.
It was probably practice. Danny turned his back to the fence. “You know, I think even Dash would support you on something like that. We’ll get the whole school rallying behind you!”
“You know what? I’m speaking to the school board the moment this game ends. The chance to have everyone agree with me for once is too great to pass up. You’ve opened my eyes. In fact, I might just—”
Sam was interrupted by the sound of the marching band starting their routine.
Getting invested in the game was much easier than he thought it'd be, even if he wasn't totally sure what was going on. At first he only bothered to keep track of Sam’s beefholder, cheering with her when he fumbled or got tackled, and groaning when he caught anything. But slowly the emotional charge in the air seeped into his core, and as the game went on he got something like a caffeine buzz. When the first touchdown hit, the wave of fervor that crashed over him nearly knocked out his vision. The cheer that burst out of his chest was distorted and indiscernible through the crowd, but the tingling in his throat told him it was loud. The thrill made his head swim.
But it all came crashing down when a breath of frigid air escaped his lungs.
===
Dash sat on the bench, intently watching the game. Tetslaff said it was to save his energy for the endgame, but he couldn’t help feeling like she was just trying to keep him out of the way. Ever since she noticed that stupid injury it felt like she just wanted him off the team.
Dash watched as Kwan attempted a long pass, but the ball took a sudden turn midair and landed in the hands of #42 on the opposing team. Odd, it didn’t seem windy. Dash wet his finger and held it up to test the air. Not even a breeze.
Suddenly, a flash of green split the sky. Phantom was sprawled in a smoking crater in the field, and a blobbish green ghost hovered ominously above him.
The world seemed to hold its breath as people processed what had happened. Players stood frozen on the field. A pall of silence hung over the crowd.
"Ghost!"
A chorus of screams led a panicked stampede as everyone fled the scene. Dash rose to his feet, unable to tear himself away. This was bad. Danny was back on his feet, but that other ghost hit harder than anything he’d seen up close. He couldn’t just stand by while Danny got beat into a pulp. He had to go ghost.
Finding a place that wasn’t obvious was hard. The bleachers were crawling with people trying to escape, and he bet there were people hiding in the bathrooms. On the far side of the field there were a couple flimsy paper “Go Badgers!” banners draped over the fence. He crossed the field as inconspicuously as possible and jumped the fence to crouch behind the scant cover. He called on the week-plus-change he'd had training with Danny, and easily brought up the gold rings of his transformation. He took a few deep breaths, and invisibly leapt the fence again.
Danny was grappling with the ghost, who had taken the form of a giant muscular bee. It was slowly gaining the upper hand, and a stream of green trickled from the corner of Danny’s determined grimace. Dash couldn’t make out what the ghost was saying, but he could smell trash talk like blood in water. And this time, he didn’t like it.
Enveloping his fists in a yellow glow, he fired off two ectoblasts at the ghost’s back. It turned to face him, its compound eyes molded into a permanent glare. Shoving Danny away, it crouched to the ground as its form flowed into that of a panther.
“Run!” Danny shouted, and a split second later the ghost charged him.
Dash’s courage wavered a little, but he stood his ground. He waited until the ghost was almost on top of him before leaping over it, using what little flight he had to pad his airtime. He landed in a roll, several yards behind the beast.
“Phantom! Who’s this new friend you want to protect so badly?” It sniffed the air. “A half-human freak? Another one of your father’s mistakes?”
It circled around to face him, and he fired off a few more shots before they started fizzling out. It recoiled and shook itself off with a growl. Undeterred, it nearly charged again when a beam from Phantom hit it square in the jaw.
“Go! Now! While I’ve got him distracted!”
Newly enraged, the panther’s muscles swole, towering up above Danny as it shifted into a bear.
“No! I’m not going to stand back while you get your ass handed to you! I know how to fight, and I’ve got the firepower to back me up!”
“I’ve got this handled! Now go before you get yourself hurt!” The bear swiped at Danny, earning him a set of gashes across his chest.
“Get hurt? You’re the one who’s bleeding all over the place! I haven’t gotten hit once.”
While Danny took a moment to growl down at his new wound, the bear charged Dash again, not having learned from the first time. Dash leaped again, weightlessly soaring over it.
Out of nowhere, a scorpion’s tail unfurled and snagged Dash around his waist. The sky wheeled above him for a dizzying instant, before a sudden impact knocked the air out of his ectoplasmic chest.
Flat on his back, Dash begged his lungs to fill with air, as his stiff chest refused to move. The bear was on top of him before he remembered to look for it.
“You’re right. How can Phantom expect to protect you when he can’t even protect himself?” The ghost sneered, pinning him by his stomach.
Dash crossed his arms over his face, and the bear slashed at him. Streaks of agony burned across his forearms. Dash screamed in pain.
A loud series of cracks stopped the onslaught, and when Dash looked up, he saw the bear’s legs locked in ice.
“Quick! Qui—”
Dash didn’t have to hear it twice. He scrambled out from under the bear ghost as quickly as he could, flipping over and stumbling onto shaky legs as soon as they would hold his weight.
When he turned to run, Sam and Tucker were sprinting towards him. He heard ice shatter, and before he could croak at them to run too, Sam fired off a wrist ray and he heard the ghost roar and crash.
“Right in the eye! Great shot!” cheered Tucker.
A glance over Dash's shoulder caught Danny delivering a final ectoblast and Tucker hastily thermosing up the ghost. He slowed to a jog, and stopped to wait for the others.
“Dash! You ok?”
Dash tried to give a thumbs up, but his jacket sleeve rubbed against his wounds. Reflexively he clutched his arm, sucking air through his teeth.
“Ooh. Did Bertrand track him down?”
“Oh no, Dash tracked down Bertrand. Practically threw himself into his claws.” Danny spat.
“You needed help! What was I supposed to do?”
“Stay out of trouble! Like I told you!”
“I’m strong enough to help! Your friends don’t even have ghost powers, and I even got Bertman or whatever he’s called off of you!”
“That doesn’t matter!”
“'Doesn’t matter'? What’s all the training for, then, if I’m not allowed to fight?”
“That’s not training! I’m just making sure you don’t lose control of your ghost powers, dumbass!”
“Wh…” Footfalls interrupted Dash’s train of thought. He turned around, to where Jazz was running up with the Ghost Peeler.
“Where’s the ghost?”
“Right here.” Tucker tossed the thermos into the air and caught it. “How did you know about the attack?”
“Something felt off. When I swung by to settle my nerves, I saw the crowd fleeing and knew something was wrong.” She paused. “Is that Dash?”
Dash froze. How did she know? But when none of the other teens looked surprised, he gave up and transformed. “Yeah…” The breeze chilled his wounds.
“Holy shit, your arm!” she exclaimed, and holy shit, his arm. It looked tamer under the sleeve. A couple bloody scratches under ripped cloth, painful but not… oh God. He couldn’t look.
“And Danny, your chest! What happened?” Jazz’s voice brought his attention back to Danny.
Danny transformed and pulled his hoodie through his body before blood soaked through his t-shirt. “Bertrand showed up, Dash wanted to help out, shit hit the fan.”
“Hard.” Tucker added.
He did help though! He distracted Bertman, and who knows how much worse he could have hurt Danny if he wasn’t there.
“It wasn’t that hard of a fight, and I probably would have been fine if Dash didn’t distract me. I’m not even bruised much.” Phantom’s words landed like a gut punch.
Tetslaff thinking he was useless was bad enough, but Phantom too? Danny? More than useless. A problem to be gotten rid of.
Dash's thoughts were thick and there was a dizzy feeling in his chest.
“Still, you need patching up. Let’s get off the field before someone shows up, preferably somewhere with good lighting and a place to sit.”
“My parents are out tonight. Mom’s speaking at a thing to get funding for the library, and Dad came along to support, so we’ll have the place to ourselves,” suggested Tucker.
“Sounds like a plan! I’ll drive you guys, you’re not flying injured while I’m here.”
“Jazz, you don’t even like people eating in your car. I’m not staining your seats just ‘cause of some injury.”
“Yes you are. I care about you way more than some stupid upholstery. Besides, Dash is going to stain them anyway.”
Unless he carried me, Dash thought. Soaring above the city in Phantom’s strong arms again, like he’d been wishing for ever since that first night. Close to his hero’s chest, pressed against the claw. marks. That Danny blamed him for. Right.
He was probably just being woozy anyway.
They got to Jazz's car. Small, white, clean, ergonomic, probably loaded with secret weaponry. Dash slid in awkwardly next to Sam in the cramped back seat. She scooted closer to Tucker, and while he appreciated the room for his arm, the gesture still stung a little.
With a grumble, the car started up, and an uncomfortable silence started to build. Dash wanted to say something. Defend himself, apologize… He bit back the ever-changing sentences before he could regret them. He watched the streetlights slide across Danny’s face and caught himself looking a little too closely.
“Do you think Spectra is close?” Tucker had his PDA out and was typing silently.
“Hm? Nah. Bertrand seemed to be by himself, some one-off attack to get a little despair to feed on. Spectra’s plans are bigger.”
The silence threatened to return.
“It’s kinda funny how there’s a ghost named Spectra. Like, Dr. Spectra was such a horrible counselor, so of course she shares her name with a ghost.”
“They’re the same person,” deadpanned Sam.
He burst out laughing. “Breaking news! World’s shittiest counselor actually ghost! More at 11. She would be a ghost. Like if there’s anyone I’d believe is secretly a ghost, it would be her.” He trusted the tension to dissolve now.
“No, she’s literally a ghost who feeds on depression to stay youthful. She tried to kill Jazz,” explained Tucker, demonstrating that the tension was very much still intact.
“Oh.” The silence returned, and as awkward as it was, he was glad nobody was acknowledging his stupidity. How far away did Tucker live? They were probably almost there. If he didn’t apologize now it’d be too awkward to ever bring it up again. The clock was ticking and the discomfort forced the words into his mouth.
“I’m sorry,” he mumbled. Nobody seemed to hear. “For not listening to you during the fight. You’re the more experienced ghost, and I shouldn’t undermine your authority like that.”
“Undermine my… what? Dash, I was afraid for you. I don’t care if you listen to everything I say, just don’t get hurt, ok?” His voice wavered with concern, some kind of holdover from his Insecure Nerd façade. Still, it struck a chord in him. Hearing his hero say he cared for him, was scared for him… God, he wished it was real.
“Alright. I’ll stay out of it next time. I just don’t want to see you getting hurt, either.”
The car rolled to a stop in a driveway he didn’t recognize. He hopped out, and he was surprised to see Sam get out on his side.
She leaned over to growl into his ear. “Don’t think I’m falling for that act, Baxter. Since when have you ever cared about Danny getting hurt?”
“Since…” but she’d already brushed past him. It wasn’t like he had an argument that wouldn’t dig him a deeper hole anyway.

*hands you dan* i love your headcanons for this sad miserable man. Keep talking pls
aaaa tyyy!!! i find it wildly fascinating how the fandom portrays dan in such different and varying ways, specifically the many ways they translate dan's self into his obsession and all, but sometimes it just feels like there could be something more yknow? and this isn't throwing shade at anyone, i enjoy reading all kinds of interpretations, it's just that at times it seems like dan is viewed as a sort of means to an end kinda thing, as just one more drop to the whump bucket that is danny, and while yes, the whole situation would definitely have had a huge negative impact on danny (even tho the show never acknowledges it again >>) i feel like in some cases it's a bit, misshandled? maybe that's not the best word, so maybe more of a missed potential thing? miss interpreted even
one thing i did see in some posts was that some people expressed a bit of discontentment with the way dan is portrayed as solely a danny thing, and by that i mean that they thought that putting all the weight of dan's existence onto danny was bogus because vlad was in the mix, and like, i understand where they're coming from, i really do, but there's actually a lot going on in TUE that points to this being explicitly danny's ghost half actions.
before fusing, danny's ghost half deliberately took the surgery gloves, he smiled while he wore them, and he, out of his own volition, dug them into vlad's chest to take 'plasmius' out. furthermore, even before the procedure vlad had already been showing signs of remorse for what had happened:
Tumblr media
this is vlad's face after seeing danny somberly looking at a photo of his family and friends after the explosion, he'd been, seconds before this, smirking and acting smug about getting what he wanted, but i think this is the start of him finally realizing just what they both had lost for that to have happened, and in my personal opinion, he might've been wondering if it had been worth it. on the other hand:
Tumblr media
this is what danny's ghost self looked like before attacking vlad. some people have pointed out that vlad's story shouldn't be taken as truth given his manipulative nature, but honestly i think that he would have no particular reason to lie. he may have lost his ghost powers, but do you think he wouldn't have taken the opportunity to try and take down present danny since the chance was right there? in a way, future danny ruined him, it was a type of violation that people don't really want to talk about since it's vlad, but it's what happened. danny isn't a saint, he's far from it really, he does a lot of learning on how to be a better person through different instances of the series:
- Attack of the Killer Garage Sale- selling his parent's invention scraps and parts for money so he could buy clothes for a party (he gave the money back at the end of the ep but he still went against his father's instructions to not throw the parts out)
-Spitting Image- danny uses his powers against dash after getting bullied (he learns from his mistake but still repeats it later in the series)
-Fright Night- danny steals frightnight's sword with the intent of cheating the halloween competiton
-The Ultimate Enemy- you all know (him cheating the test by stealing the answers)
-The Fright Before Christmas- lack of empathy after destroying ghost writer's story just for it being christmas themed; his stubbornness also ruins christmas for his friends and family
-Eye for an Eye- literally swatting vlad
and so on. the point being, yes danny can be extremely selfless and takes on the responsibility of fighting ghosts since he opened the portal, but he's still human, and most importantly, he's still a kid, he's 14. that being said, it doesn't mean he can't be infuriatingly petty and stubborn to a fault, so while wanting to attribute a part of dan's personality to vlad, it should always be extremely important to remember that danny also has the capacity to do wrong.
i think i went a bit off topic there aqndjwf, anyways-
i think what i want to say with all of this is that dan's an entity of his own. he has neither vlad's nor danny's motivations, none of the feelings either had for the fenton's in their own way: (he had no issues mocking maddie and killing her, something that love obsessed vlad would never do, neither would danny who loves his mother although a bit distantly), he singles jazz out throughout TUE's events, and also has no qualms with making her die ( jazz being danny's most loved familial tie, the one person he trusts outside of tucker and sam), and he also doesn't view himself as danny unless he's taking a jab at someone's feelings.
-"i am your boy" he says to maddie when she asks him what he's done to danny, even though she isn't her son
-"what kind of parents are you anyway?" the world's leading ghost experts, and you can't figure out your own son was half ghost" he doesn't say "you couldn't figure out I was half ghost", he said they couldn't figure out their son was a halfa, which contradicts his previous "i am your boy" line, confirming that he only uses those terms when he wants to hurt
another point for the 'dan is separate from danny' deal is that he exists outside of time. he wasn't worried about danny defeating him in TUE's finale because he said that he was still there, therefore danny still turned into him, but he loses, so that couldn't possible have been true. by his own logic he should be gone, and by the show's logic (as seen by the other time travel instance during Masters of Time), undoing a timeline means it has no impact on its original. (stopping the cause [college portal incident] meant there were no repercussions [plasmius jack, married vlad/maddie]). by those guidelines, danny stopping the explosion should mean no dan at all, but he still exists, so he isn't tied to danny's fate specifically.
he is a possibility. it could mean that the burger joint explosion wasn't the only way he could be created, but the knowledge of that possible outcome should be a sufficient deterrent to thwart it, so it's back to square one. that's actually another complaint i've seen- that danny being afraid of turning into dan doesn't make sense since he made sure that that future couldn't happen, but i think they all miss the principle of it- that being that danny saw his potential to be his own worst self, and that he doesn't want that. but now that he knows he can, he'll always wonder if what he's doing is the right thing, or if it'll have a domino effect that leads him to becoming that, since the exam cheating was such an inconsequential action and all compared to the many other acts danny has pulled off.
tldr for this section is that dan is actually more like dani in that they're derivatives from danny, but still their own person. (i might make another post later about what i think dani's obsession would be [spoiler: i think it's life itself] but i suck at writing </3)
dani was created by vlad, but that doesn't define her, and neither should plasmius aspects define dan. or danny's for that matter. their similarities are mostly physical, and even those are vastly altered, and there isn't much personality wise. on top of havig the trauma of witnessing his family and friends die, living with a man he hated and growing distance with your other half, dan has 10 years on danny, and by the looks of it that decade was spent on his own, wreaking havoc. he's very much not sane. that mental unbalance doesn't mean that vlad is at the metaphorical wheel, it just highlights that the human mind just can't deal with the stress of the circumstances danny went through at age 14. his own death went unprocessed, and that's why i think dan redemption is very viable.
since we spoke of dan redemption, and this will be the last topic since this is getting extremely long (sorry asker 😔), i think jazz could help him. despite holding a large amount of animosity towards her in TUE, jazz could still be the best shot dan has at proper therapy. jazz would have to be convinced i'm sure (she'd have to remember TUE events for her to properly help, and i dont think she'd be too thrilled), but that's still a version of her brother. she'd help not as a sister, but as a therapist. (i actually have a mini fic in the works for that but who know how long that'll take so </3) the trick with therapy is that people need to want to be helped/ they need to accept needing help, and dan is very much,,, not willing. but therapy is nothing if not a work of patience and a space for learning, and if there's one thing to counteract the personification of grief, then it has to be acceptance. and time too :)
once again ty for the wonderful ask ajhdwj, sorry for rambling so much 😔
