reminder that if you're not watching Crayon Shin-chan then you are living a hollow and empty life. this is not edited. this ripped straight from the movie (Movie 8: Jungle That Invites the Storm, highly recommend for fellow Masaaki Yuasa lovers)

#i've made this disclaimer on another post but will again since i've seen a lot more of the movies now #the movies are VERY good and very enjoyable but unfortunately the first handful are bogged down by transphobic/homophobic/okama stereotypes #they kind of vary in their severity. Movie 5 i think is the biggest catalyst because it features the stereotyped characters the most #prominently. Movie 3 doesnt really have caricatures per se but saves a very backhanded reveal for the end #Movies 1 and 4 are a bit more tolerable if my memory is correct. Movie 2 i think is kind of comparable to Movie 5 with its caricatures #in that the characters have similar roles in both movies #i admittedly can't remember what caricatures there were in Movie 6 or 7. 7 i think barely had anything #RAMBLE RAMBLE BASICALLY: these jokes are within the first 7 movies or so 5 being the zenith then reducing down and down. by movie 8 it's sa #e #i give these disclaimers because these movies are all very enjoyable and i would not recommend them if i didnt think there wasnt any merit #o them. they are all very much worth watching. Movie 5 still has a lot of very enjoyable stuff in it (there's a showdown in a supermarket!!#but i just want to make sure that is clear and established since transparency is good to have and i dont want anyone's viewing experience t #be ruined because they weren't given the proper warning #if it's any consolation it's my understanding that even the directors hated doing the jokes #iirc Keiichi Hara really didn't like doing the jokes and i think had a talk with the mangaka Yoshito Usui and was like 'uh dude this is #gonna age horribly can we maybe not'#ironically Hara's first film is Movie 5. which is again the biggest offender #BUT! that is my spiel. my understanding is that it's contained to those 6 or 7 first movies and i think is strictly just a movie thing #so please do give these films a watch but just be mindful at the same time #if anyone needs recommendations my favorites have been movies 4 and 9 but i genuinely really enjoyed every one that i have seen #i've seen the first 11 and a half movies (need to finish 12) and movie 22. the worst i've felt about one is 'oh that was pretty good!'#each film has its own merit and is very very very much worth watching #22 was the first Shin-chan anything i watched and all my Shin-chan expert friends say 4 is a good introductory piece #in case that influences anything/makes it easier to break in #so. thus concludes my spiel #csc #vid

Minor throwaway sentence in a book on corruption I've just finished was talking about 1930s gangsters and about certain organisations in Chicago which the author stated were more ethnically diverse than the Italian mafia, and whose members were said to have included 'Irish, Welsh, Italian, and Jewish' gangsters.

Now call me sheltered but I've seen MANY Italian American gangsters immortalised in film, I've heard of the Jewish mob, and the police Irish American gangs but I have yet to see a movie about the Welsh mob. As a rule I don't go in for gangster movies but I feel there's an unfilled niche here and also I need more info.

#Might delete this in a bit #On a more serious note given the context of the Great Depression and slumps in the coal mining districts of Britain #I can see why Welsh people who emigrated to America might be form an impoverished immigrant community targeted by organised crime #And possibly my surprise comes from outdated national stereotypes and the fact that popular stereotypes of 1930s gangsters #Rarely include immigrant groups that are largely Protestant (at least in the US- in Glasgow and London it's a different story)#Makes me wonder if all those Catholic Aesthetics that directors who make movies about Italian and Irish mobsters are so fond of #Would play the same with Meredith Davies who may be a crook but at least he regularly attends the Methodist chapel #And is a teetotaller and a fixture in various choirs #Welsh accents are often quite soft too I think I'd be fucking terrified of a Welsh gangster in a movie tbh #To be fair real life organised crime obviously encompassed people from all walks of life I'm more interested in movie depictions here #'More Welsh representation!' 'Ah yes how about as gangsters?' 'Er...'#Less surprised if I come across Scots because eventhough they're privileged in the US English media does seem to view Scottish accents #As threatening so Scots often get roped in to play tough guys and gangsters and villains in all sorts of media #And often they will get an Englishman to play a Scot and Scots to play Eastern Europeans which is also weird #But that's off topic; I am not however used to Welsh villains

i keep seeing people saying that they killed izzy for shock value a la game of thrones and i just— not every character death is there for shock value?? just because you don't expect it doesn't mean it's specific purpose is to garner shock value.

izzy very clearly represented piracy. he was steadfast and staunch in his ways and he held onto the traditions of piracy with a TIGHT fist throughout the first season and the start of the second. not to mention, s2 was ALWAYS leading to this theme of "the end of piracy". the clues were there the whole season!!! and by that logic, if izzy = piracy, then end of piracy = end of izzy.

im not happy about his death!! im disappointed hes gone!! i loved him, he was probably my favorite character this season!! BUT i do understand why djenks did it. and it was NOT a "for shock value" kind of thing.

some people are reeeeal quick to like get super defensive and jump onto this "omg it was for shock value! there was no other purpose! what bad writing! what a bad writer!" bandwagon when things they don't personally like or agree with happen on their favorite shows, but honestly not everything you don't like is "bad writing" or "just there for shock value" or "purposeless". maybe take a couple minutes to think critically about it and to like analyze the choice within the frame of the whole season and the whole show and its themes before making those kinds of (oftentimes baseless) accusations?

it's one thing to be upset with something that happened and to not like it, and it's another thing entirely to then blame it on bad writing or a clueless, vicious writer who doesn't care about their characters or their story or their audience.

#not every choice is a personal slight against you or your group in television lmao #im SO hesitant to tag this as anything to do with the show #but i dont want to spoil people so ill tag that #ofmd spoilers #i imagine this take will not sit well with everyone but 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️#if you dont have anything nice to say then this is your warning: dont say it keep scrolling and stay off my post #im not looking to fight with anyone #im simply stating my opinion and the observations ive made in the aftermath of that last episode #also it is SO CLEAR that david jenkins cares SO deeply about this show and these charactera and his audience!!!!!#he is NOT out here trying to slight us and he had made that ABUNDANTLY clear!!!#so for people to completely ignore everything else he has done to show his love and passion and care for this show and everything about it #and say that suddenly hes just doing things to get views or to shock people or whatever thus implying hes being senseless and cruel...#thats just not it fam #hes not doing that #i know other showrunners and directors have done stuff like that (cough spn cough) but this is not that #we're so used to that that we dont know what to do when its NOT that #ofmd

Watching His Dark Materials (how did I never check this out before?) and I still maintain that if she was the right age, Dafne Keen would’ve been PERFECT for Morrigan in the Nevermovie. I’ve thought this from even when this show didn’t exist and I only knew her from Logan. I think she would’ve been able to nail it.

Jack and Diane celebrate in the pub with Jack getting drunk. While they are away, Robert and Katie ‘try’ to have some alone time but there are interruptions courtesy of Victoria (12 hour director’s cut of LOTR will keep her occupied to an extent 😂). And the whinging continues from Scott like a broken record. Jack gives Robert Andy’s gift and it’s something he was actually looking for (and Andy wouldn’t have been aware of).
