->had personal experience with Disney's Party on the Gamecube and memes on it for being a bad mario party ripoff ->was blissfully unaware of how fortunate they were in getting the GameCube and not the GBA version ->tries the GBA version ->dies more inside
it was
R A N C I D
my first thought on seeing that name on my EZFlash Omega cart was
"Wait what? That existed? Disney's Party is a bit of a trainwreck on console, never mind a fucking handheld, what kind of hot mess am I about to play?"
…then I played the worst party game I've ever played in my fucking life and questioned my life choices
i went through all the stages of grief in about 20 minutes

Honestly don’t know why Cinderella made such a big fuss. I made it back before 12 with plenty of time to spare. Clearly she didn’t purchase a GBASP earlier that day thus a reason to get home to relive her childhood on some gaming classics.... that and she had a sexy arse prince to make her want to stay out longer... whatever ...

Okay so yesterday I found out that a gameboy advance version of Disney's Party existed
So this morning I was searching around more on the available videos of the gameboy advance version of Disney's Party to find any extra info on billy or if he exists at all in the game
And so I found billy
Tumblr media
But as far as I know, this is the only time I can find him making an appearance. Not even on his own island which still exists in the game??? But this obviously looks like an older design.
Which could explain why the door on his suit looks different on the official in game art of the gamecube version after you win a game as billy.
Tumblr media
But even then. In the gba version of the game, billy is never even mentioned as a character as far as I know and kind of just appears??? It's really confusing.
And ALSO
In some of the minigames in the gba version of the game Theres this OTHER ghost character that seems to act as an enemy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their design is pretty similar to billy's and it makes me wonder what the heck this thing was??? And what connection they have to billy? Because they also seem to have some kind of suit think like billy has but it's pretty different. Though there seems to be multiple of these things?? Unless it's only one and they just manifest in another place in the minigame?? Or they're able to duplicate themself???
I'm just trying to figure this all out, because this game have very little to no context at all! Even less than the gamecube version!
Anyway I think this guy is feral

I haven't delved much into KH lore, but I think there's something wrong when the main character is shoehorned into a plot that's essentially the same from the previous arcs repetitively along with a character that seems to be the love interest, while several others you never got to play as (or very temporarily playable), gets much further characterization and their new resolutions. The only ones that are interesting in Sora's party is Donald and Goofy btw. Anything about Riku and Mickey though?
Hmm, well, strictly from a storytelling perspective, I think I basically agree with you! Pretty much all the really interesting plot developments and character moments in KH3 are completely divorced from the person whose PoV you’re stuck inhabiting for most of the game, and Sora pretty much spends the whole game doing absolutely nothing of any importance while all the actual plot progression happens away from him. And in terms of what makes a good story, yeah, that’s basically terrible, but I honestly feel like I can basically understand why they did it because frankly, Kingdom Hearts as a series is in a very weird position at this point. The main appeal of the series to the vast majority of the casual audience is its supposed “Disney magic” and getting to explore the worlds from various Disney movies, but the actual main plot of the series at this point is an absolutely impenetrable and convoluted mess of original characters and plot threads that’s about as far away from any kind of “Disney magic” as you could possibly get.
With that in mind, it pretty much makes sense to me that they’d want to just shove the main plot out of the way entirely for most of the game and just focus on Sora’s random adventures in Disney worlds, because it’s honestly gotten to the point where the presence of the main plot actively detracts from the supposed central appeal of the game for most people. It allows KH3 to be enjoyable as a stand-alone experience to the average person who doesn’t give a crap about the overarching mess of the Kingdom Hearts plot and just wants to enjoy some Disney fanservice (and let’s be real, this probably describes at least 80% of the people who actually bought the game). Games like KH1, Days and BBS could manage to do a passable job of integrating some characterisation and plot development into the Disney stuff without being too jarring to the casual audience, because those games told basically self-contained stories. You don’t need to be a KH Lore Maniac to follow, say, Ven’s character arc through BBS. But KH3? KH3′s plot is all about tying up loose ends and resolving the stories of various characters from other games. Nothing about KH3′s plot makes any sense or has any real impact as a standalone, and it would probably be a fool’s errand to even try to make it work as one, because it just has way too much baggage from the ongoing series-wide plot that it has to resolve. So rather than trying to give Sora a quest that actually ties into the main plot in some way, they just decided to put the plot to one side and lean into unapologetic filler instead. I can sort of respect that.
The way I see it is… well, let’s put it this way. As a Kingdom Hearts fan, I could totally draw up an alternative outline for KH3 that has Sora making more of a meaningful journey and progress throughout the game, and integrates the main plot into the Disney stuff better. The focus of KH3 is about Sora saving the hearts and healing the pain of the people connected to him, the people whose pain was forgotten until now. So why not make the plots of the Disney worlds focus more on having him come to understand these people better, to get more of a focus on why it’s so important to bring them back? Let’s have the Olympus Coliseum chapter involve a subplot where, say, Sora finds out from Phil about the time Roxas spent training there in Days, and Phil talks about how much potential he showed and how he really misses the kid. Let’s spend more time explicitly drawing a connection between the toys having hearts in Toy Story and the way Xion developed her own heart despite being an artificially created puppet. Let’s parallel Rapunzel’s situation in Tangled with Namine’s in CoM, and make the plot of that world about Sora regaining the memories he lost from CoM (heck, Marluxia’s even right there and briefly brings this up in the actual game already!), reminding him of just how much Namine suffered and how much she deserves to be saved. And so on, and so on.
And that would probably make for a much more solid and cohesive game, and give the overall plot a lot more weight… but could you actually realistically present that kind of plot in a way that wasn’t totally alienating to the casual audience? Are you really going to be able to give enough emotional context for the average uninitiated player to grasp and care about all these different plotlines just through flashbacks and exposition? Are there really that many people who actually want to see the plot of Tangled used as a vehicle to revisit the plot of a 2004 GBA game, or are people just going to be frustrated at these hugely popular Disney movies being taken over by weird anime OCs they don’t care about? Professional reviewers are quite understandably panning the game already just for the very minimal intrusions of the convoluted main plot into the Disney stuff “breaking the magic” as it is, so it’s hard for me to imagine that any more of that would really be well-received by and large, however much the story might technically benefit from it. This is the sort of problem we run into when a game has to try and simultaneously appease two distinct audiences with entirely different priorities. Giving the main plot a very minimal presence for most of the game and then shoving the entire resolution into the last few hours is an imperfect solution, but I’m also not really sure what else they could realistically have done, given the setup KH3 had to work with.
In the end, I’m basically content with the compromise. I think they did a decent job of making a game that stays mostly enjoyable and accessible as a wacky Disney adventure for the casual audience, while still tying up most of the big overall plot threads that needed to be tied up in a reasonably satisfying way (a few very questionable writing choices aside… but it’s Kingdom Hearts, what else is new). It would have been nice to have had more build-up and substance to these characters’ resolutions, and to actively focus more of the game on them, as you suggest - but the more time the game spends pandering to overall series fans, the more time it also spends alienating everyone else. I think in the end we just have to accept that the build-up and context for their resolutions was in the previous games, that the people who really care about the series’ story will have played those games already, and for the people who haven’t, it just probably wasn’t worth devoting too much effort to trying to make them care within KH3 itself. That’s my take on it, at least.
On Riku and Mickey... hm, well, aside from them obviously being OTP material as always, neither of them really got to do much in this game? So I don’t really have much to say about them in particular. I thought the idea of Riku feeling a personal connection to Aqua’s plight as someone trapped in the darkness was sweet, but then they didn’t really do anything with that or let them actually interact at all in the end, so it felt like wasted potential. The BBS characters in this game were just a big disappointment in general, really! They could easily have done much more with them than they did, without even changing the structure of the story much... but, uh, I’m talking about Riku, sorry. I feel like Riku’s never really done much for me as a character, beyond like, KH1 and maybe CoM. I can see the outline of his arc on paper, and it seems fine and potentially interesting, but the execution has always felt pretty by-the-book and lacking in nuance to me. They talk very generally about him “falling to darkness” and such, but they don’t ever get beyond that into actually having him wrestle with his guilt over specific things, like his time working with DiZ or kidnapping the princesses or contributing to Roxas and Xion’s sacrifices, so it all feels a bit too broad to particularly connect with - and it’s sort of hard for me to really give weight to things like “I wore a blindfold for a whole year because I couldn’t stand looking at myself”, when that’s juxtaposed with him flipping right back to being a perfectly functional and confident hero without much apparent struggle or lasting difficulty after just a few platitudes from Sora. It’s sort of like they flip between being broadly melodramatic about his issues and shrugging them off completely? So he’s never really clicked with me, personally.
Meanwhile, Mickey is kind of hard for me to take all that seriously as a character beyond the memes, since... I mean, he’s Mickey Mouse, so there’s a big mental block there, lol. But even if I put that aside and look at his writing in KH in isolation, he never really felt like a particularly deep or interesting character or anything, I think? His relationship with Riku is very sweet, though!

Third-Party Characters Who I Think Are Possible for Smash
Banjo-Kazooie (Self-explanatory, Microsoft seems to be hoping for this)
Crash Bandicoot (Crash is on Switch, there were great Crash games on the GBA, he’d be a good icon)
Scorpion (Would be representation of one of the biggest fighting games out there; if there’s a character who is seen more as the face of MK let me know, but I’ve always seen Scorpion as the franchise’s ‘star’ so to speak)
Heihachi (Was gonna be in Sm4sh, but Sakurai couldn’t think of a way to implement the moveset; considering two other costume-only characters have made it in, I think there’s a high chance he’ll be revealed soon)
Geno (He’s a weird case cuz I think Square has the rights? Sakurai wanted him in Brawl so I’ve heard, and he got a costume, so we may see him soon)
Monster Hunter (With Rathalos and what looks like some sort of MH battlefield, we may be seeing them)
Dragonborn (Skyrim is on every platform, even the Switch, and the Dragonborn for better or worse is the face of TES and Bethesda these days... and there’s no denying TES is one of the most influential western RPG series out there)
Travis Touchdown (He’s kinda in the same boat as Bayonetta, in that while not a hugely influential character or from a majorly influential series, he has a very strong association with Nintendo consoles)
Phoenix Wright (The absolute longest shot of all of these, but he IS a fighting game veteran from possibly the most popular visual novel series out there. Slim, but there’s a chance)
Shadow the Hedgehog (It’s almost all but outright confirmed he’s gonna be an Echo Fighter or perhaps even his own thing, though I think the latter is far less likely)
Sora (This is another really long shot because of the series’ strong ties with Disney, which would make it weird to have him in with absolutely no references to Disney characters... but he has had a major storyline game on a Nintendo console. Very low on the list I’d say)
Neku (This is super iffy because TWEWY is not the most hugely influential game in the world and is more of a cult classic than anything... but if Square were to get another character in, someone from TWEWY makes a lot of sense, especially since a Switch port is coming soon. It would likely be something akin to Bayonetta or Travis - strong association with Nintendo consoles trumps notability. The fact TWEWY is frequently hailed as one of the best DS games surely helps)

How about a 2, 14, 20, 38, 67, and 69 for video game ask? :)
Lemme start off, anon, by thanking you for actually asking. I don’t usually get actual asks off those long ask lists, so thank you for showing interest!  :D
I’ll put my answers under a read more so I don’t clutter my followers’ dashboards. I’m gonna hardcore answer your questions, so this is gonna be a long one!
2.   A game that influenced you creatively?
I would have to say The World Ends with You. That game was angsty, emo aesthetic, and I seriously was in love with Neku. The characters personalities and designs really made me think about how to design a good character, and the story and all its twists really got me thinking about how to properly write an engaging plot. Also, TWEWY’s music was so lit, like, what better inspiration do you need to write about sad teenagers stuck in an overcrowded urban jungle? TWEWY was a unique gem that has a place in my heart, and has influenced the kind of characters I like to create.
14.   Favorite game music?
Kingdom Hearts, hands down! I said that TWEWY was lit, but Kingdom Hearts is so good. I’m not really into the remixed Disney tracks, but all the original music is great. All the songs are really beautiful, and when paired with the game just, MMMMMMMM, rip out my heartstrings. My favorite tracks are Dearly Beloved and Roxas’s Theme. I’m so jealous of all the people that got to go to KHO! Honorable mention goes to Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
20.   Game that you know like the back of your hand?
Cooking Mama. I can peel virtual apples like a god. I own Cooking Mama 1-3, Crafting Mama, Gardening Mama, and Camping Mama, and the only recipe I can’t get gold on is French toast from Cooking Mama 3. Everything else is a piece of cake. Even better than Mama!
38.   A game that you’re ashamed to admit you like?
Okay… people don’t actually give me shlt about liking dress-up games or dating sims. The game that I don’t really tell people I like is… Sonic Riders, from the PS2. I think it’s the best racing game after Mario Kart. Sonic Riders was such a good game. The story mode was fun, the characters were all so cool, and the boards and tracks were amazing. A lot of people don’t seem to agree, but I spent more hours on that game than my Pokemon Sun and Moon. I still play Sonic Riders to this day.
67.   Do you have a happy gaming-related childhood memory you want to share?
Oh, boy. I’m actually old enough to have those, huh? I was really happy when I got my GBA. My cousin was getting the SP, so he gave me his OG, purple GBA and a copy of Pokemon Sapphire. I actually didn’t play Sapphire first. I went out with my dad and bought Dogz and Catz and I would spend all day on the couch playing with my cute little pets. That GBA holds a lot of special memories for me.
69.   In your opinion, best game ever made?
This is a tough one! I play a lot of games, but I do kind of have selective taste. If we’re talking about my favorite game of all time, I would have to say Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Time and Darkness. It took everything great from the first PMD and made it even better. Your partner pokemon is the sweetest character in the world, and the story line was so good. I can cry on command by thinking about that game. I played it a lot before because I had trouble beating the Guild and I really wanted to evolve my party members. The music in that game was also fantastic, and I Don’t Want to Say Goodbye from the OST is one of my favorite pieces of video game music ever created. On the other hand, the best game ever made for all gamers ever would have to be Overwatch, I guess. Or maybe Mario Kart…

14. Favorite game music?
You’re coming after me here. Xp
Anyways, as a whole like series wide??? Probably KH, Yoko Shimomura is a god and I will worship her musical skills and Utada Hikaru’s main themes are just the cherry on top. But period?
I’d actually have to go with Intro Story/Story of the Thousand Year Door, from...well, obviously Thousand Year Door. Music is one of those things that can bring me to anywhere, I’ve gotten into several of my favorite franchises simply because I heard a song from it (Kingdom Hearts (Simple and Clean) and Fire Emblem (Id (Purpose)) come to mind in particular.) Now TTYD obviously wasn’t one of those, I’ve been playing Super Paper Mario basically since it came out, and so TTYD had always been on my list of games to play since I stopped being a stupid ten year old and learned they were different games. But this was the thing that turned it into a “Well I played the others I should play this one too” to a desperate need to play.
The music is stunning, it sets up the tone for the story well in a way none of the other Paper Mario games have since (or prior), and there’s a just magical quality of wonder to tone. The orchestration and build up off the simple melody is phenomenal, and to this day it is one of the most stand out tracks in a video game to me period. I looped it before I played the game and I still occasionally do to this day.
21. Game that you didn’t like or understand as a kid but love now?
Kid me liked everything tbh. Looking at all my games from when I was younger I guess the only one I can really name is Mario Sunshine? But that was less dislike and more “The goopy piranhas scare the shit out of me” which I moved passed as I grew older and came to love the game when I was in fifth grade.
OH AND LUIGI’S MANSION. That one too. Although that one less was “I’m terrified” and more “I don’t understand how this game works.”
38. A game you’re ashamed to admit that you like?
As should be expected of me, I’ve played a lot of the Disney licensed games and while I acknowledge they’re not good, I do like the GBA Princess game and Disney Party. Not really embarrassed by that though. Same with Secret Agent Barbie. Hatoful and Angels with Scaly Wings I might be embarrassed to admit to my parents but not ashamed of liking they’re good games.
OKAY SO I WENT LOOKING THROUGH MY OLD GAMES FOR THIS.
First of all I wanna say I refound a puzzle game of my mom’s I lowkey remember really liking. Might see if it holds up. Second I spent ten minutes wondering where my Super Mystery Dungeon box was only to remember I bought it on virtual console. Anyways.
So I was struggling to figure out what game might be a good one because I’m unabashed in my love of Super Princess Peach and I was thinking maybe Petz: Wild Animals Dolphins.
And then I remembered I genuinely love Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.
It’s so bad. I never talk about this to anybody. I know the game play probably sucks (even if I ended up liking it at least back then), the music and graphics are laughable, it caused the downfall of the Sonic comics, and it’s...not good. But thirteen year old me was absolutely obsessed with the story, I genuinely loved it so much. I liked how it handled the main Sonic characters, I liked teaming up with Eggman, and I genuinely love Shade. Like I’ve played through this game and its story probably about five times and I can only think of a few other games (Mystery Dungeon 2 if you count Darkness/Sky as the same game and even then the Grovyle story mission I’ve played ten times at least, SPM, and that’s literally it) that I’ve played through that many times??? BUT I’M GENUINELY EMBARRASSED I LIKE THIS GAME THAT MUCH HOLY HELL. It’s like...just such a bad game.
56. Did you ever play Roller Coaster Tycoon and kill off your guests?
Sadly, no. I was always building the prebuilt stuff because I didn’t get how it worked.
Zoo Tycoon however...
