Synagogue in Timișoara. For a while it was used as a concert and event hall. Now it looks like it was reclaimed by the Romanian Jewish community-organisation and it's being renovated. It's in the center of town, which has about 4 big Christian religious buildings too. A place where it's believed that the old Ottoman mosque was situated is marked with a golden plate on the ground. A big part of the Identity of Timișoara is based on religious diversity.

The thing that gets me about Roman Empire being (arguably) the longest lived state in history is how much they had shifted in culture and language, and yet remained Roman. The founders of the Roman State would have surely considered the late-medieval empire an abomination. Anna Komnenos uses the word 'Latin' to describe the Normans her father fought against. They've lived so long that a word that described their founders has become an almost pejorative term for their enemies! The East-West schism of Christianity happened partially because of the language barrier, the Roman Church spoke Latin and the Roman Empire didn't, it spoke Greek! But they're still Roman. Alexius Komnenos was just as much a Roman emperor as Caesar Augustus.

KERAMIEKOS TO KYKEON
Keramiekos to Kykeon, is an original, plastic and performative creation, to mark the end of the group show Visions from the Underworld, organized by The Aprognostic Temple, as part of the European Capital of Culture Elefsina 2023, Mystery 177. Keramiekos to Kykeon is a tribute to the mysteries of ancient Greece. Much of it is inspired by the works of Edouard Schuré: Les Grands Initiées & Le Drame sacrée d'Eleusis.
The work consists of several parts:
1). A music workshop with the public.
2). Elements created in ceramics: instruments that pay homage to the aulos (an ancient Greek double-reed instrument), Pythagoras' cups, puzzle cups that test the moderation of their users and a large creation (kernos) bearing a sacred drink, the Kykeon.
3). A wooden ark, used to carry the ceramics and the elixir, which transforms into a display stand at the end of the procession.
4). Costumes and flags are sewn to mark the presence of otherness.
5). A procession around the historic site of the Eleusian Mysteries, passing by the sea where an offering to the gods is made then continuing to the temple.
6). The performance of music & song accompanies the procession and the installation of the display. At the end, we sing, we share the kykeon, we unveil the cube of mystery and the exhibition is over.
ΕΥΧΑΡΙΣΤΩ Sam & Dome
