Five Reasons Every Writer Should Have a Newsletter
Five Reasons Every Writer Should Have a Newsletter
By: Kristin A. Oakley   Don’t Wait…Start that Newsletter Now   For years, people told me to start a newsletter. After all, I had over 400 people on my email list. But I thought periodically sending a book release announcement, or upcoming author event was enough. And I wanted to get paid for my writing, not publish it for free.  Then I took a mastermind class with marketing guru Dan Blank of We…

okay but enemies to lovers au! with woozi where he has to work with another producer/composer/songwriter who is seemingly unorthodox and laid back about the music making process which really bothers woozi, who have such reverence and fixation to working 24/7 on his craft, but what’s even more annoying is that they are actually super talented. woozi can’t help but develop an annoyed admiration as they show their sincere side to the craft, their spark and passion when in the zone makes his heart restless, and he sees that they have actually similar levels of perfectionism and attention to detail,,,but they live by the motto that you need to let go and live life to be able to create, and yeah writing about life and love as you observe it is cool but to live and feel it is the greatest muse,,, woozi makes a mental note to himself that the bpm of his heart when sitting next to them is definitely inspiring something in him

heyo this is your resident rambler bringing you updates from sapphic filipino twitter: darlentina has been featured on the "for sapphics" twitter account twice and both posts are racking up a lot of views and likes. it's been a week filled with a rollercoaster of darlentina content and we're already breaching the international sapphic stage that is the "for sapphics" twitter account. even more clips and shitpost edits outside of that are amassing hundreds of thousands of views. everyone, this is our pinoy queerbaiting era ala supercorp except that through the power of sheer gay spite, we are very rapidly pushing the production crew to a corner in the hopes that international queer pressure will make them drop the dude cop love interest in favor of what could be one of the most revolutionary twists in philippine mainstream media: making darna and valentina, canonical archenemies, the main romantic pairing and partners in crime in fighting against very thinly-veiled allegories to philippine political corruption

One day, the church decided to open the window
i'm a writer. sometimes i even write things. when they're not very good, i put them on tumblr. read, my children, read.
Is there anything I would not give to have you well, my heart? You think I pile on the praise because I am expecting a reward. Can't you see it? Haven't you ever caught that smile in a mirror? You are here already. Now I only need to keep on being worthy of you. It is so often viewed as a desperate effort. Nothing about loving you is hard. I have been told only the falsity is easy, the surface, the self-gain. I have found you the most yielding thing to hold in a universe of possibilities and I do not think I'm missing anything. Maybe I can't see the hard parts because for me, the joy's in the labor. I am ecstatic to do the work. If you need me to carry you, that's just more time spent with you in my arms. In what world would that be taxing? What version of my heart could ever say no? You are a dear little lamb and with care I lead you away from the slaughter. I don't forbid you glancing back. There's things worth seeing amongst all the rubble and bodies. Love once resided there. Now it has moved. We are walking towards its new house with no hurry in our steps. For all my care, I trust you. You are breakable. I've put you together before. Fragile never meant a thing in need of locking away. Cages are harsh. My hands are soft, around your throat they remain soft, they are warm, they are all you know of the new world. They are all you need to. All love ultimately corrupts, makes you fight against what is palatable, what comforts and what sells the lies. If I love you in a broken world and I'm tired, that does not place a duty on you to start being kissed by the splinters. It is on me to heal the earth, to mold the clay into something that will not wound what I am bored of tending to. Could you trust me if I told you there is more in your heart to attract the butterflies that carry you through this all? Be not afraid. The cocoon is a bed to melt into. The wings weigh air. Metamorphosis only hurts if you kick. Come back for me before you fly off, well-loved dove. Promise me a soft resurrection. Promise me you will not cut yourself on every shard of stained glass. The martyr needs blood, you say. The martyr has plenty of his own. Shed your tears, whether crystal or crimson, on a softer kingdom. I can swear on all kinds of tomorrows. I can swear on one that will not see you afraid. On a hundred that will see you happy. On any and every that will see you loved.

i Do truly think that in yellowjackets (2021) we will be introduced to adult van in the 2021 timeline only to have the final scene of the 1996 timeline have us come to the sudden realization that van has been dead the entire time

Park Jihoon (actor for Dojun's chauffeur Ha Inseok) interview:
What type of actor is Song Joongki? Very…very good. He will never treat any scene lightly. If he feels there are things that can be improved upon, he will explore this in a discussion. In order to emphasise my character, he will even suggest sacrificing some of his own time. He's a very warm guy, and looked after many of us well. He is very good.
What is the most common question you've been asked? The most common question is…is Song Joongki really that good-looking? Yes, he's very good-looking!

Writers, Is It Time for a Content Diet?
Writers, Is It Time for a Content Diet?
By Shahnaz Radjy   What is a content diet, and why is it important for writers?   “We have begun to live in a world, where we eat content, drink content and breathe content, without giving a single thought to its composition and what kind of impact it has upon our lives.”― Abhijit Naskar, The Constitution of The United Peoples of Earth   On the first episode of “The Digital Writing Podcast,” a…

Well. Silent Reading chapter 12, where they talk about Fei Du's moms death and how he doesn't accept the conclusion, how Luo Wenzhou advises he at least try to move on emotionally. The way Fei Du is tapping a song on his cup (perhaps his moms), that he stops tapping when Luo Wenzhou hits a nerve and becomes like a statue--revealing his true emotions in a way he doesn't/can't in therapy. The grief talk he probably has needed to hear for a while, but first a very painful talk where there is no seeing eye to eye and no agreeing because they both have their reasons. And Luo Wenzhou turns off the petty conflict for it because Fei Du deserves to genuinely discuss it with Luo Wenzhou as level headed adults with their analysis if Fei Du wants to. And Fei Du is so emotional, and in the end as he puts his mask back up. (A note on the show version: some portions of this changed, the main dialogue stayed fairly true and the function of the scene. In both cases, this scene absolutely cuts up my heart ;-; ):
"Someone once said to me that ‘everything that happens in this world leaves traces,’ but whether you can find them depends on each side’s luck. Is your luck good this time?”
Luo Wenzhou suddenly froze. The blow-for-blow probing, bantering, and hinting vanished utterly from his face. For an instant the corners of his mouth were even pulled a little tight.
Luo Wenzhou subconsciously got his cigarettes out of his pocket, thought of something, and put them back.
Instantly there was deep silence between the two of them. Neither looked at the other. They only sat side by side with a distance of about one meter between them, like complete strangers.
“The windows and doors were locked. None of the rooms showed signs of forced entry. The most advanced security system of the time was entirely untouched.” Luo Wenzhou abruptly opened his mouth to speak, his voice very low and his speech very fast, as if he had already recited these words many times and could smoothly say them without missing a single punctuation mark.
“She had done her makeup and changed her clothes, even put on music. The scene had a certain feeling of ritual. There was a suicide note arranged on the writing desk next to her. It was analyzed, the handwriting confirmed to belong to the deceased. The person who had written the letter showed clear depressive tendencies, which tallied with her daily use of antidepressant medication. The deceased was an adult, with no illness or injury that may have led her to be unable to act for herself. No drugs sufficient to cause unconsciousness were found in her system. There were also no defensive wounds on her body.—That’s all the evidence we collected at the time. You were the one who reported the case. You reached the scene before we did. Unless you want to tell me that you hid some evidence back then, it was without a doubt a suicide.”
Fei Du didn’t speak. His sitting posture seemed very relaxed—legs crossed, upper body leaning forward slightly, one hand casually lying on his knee and the other holding a paper cup that was no longer steaming. His long and slender fingers were tapping out a beat on the rim of the cup, as if there was a melody no one else could hear filling the air.
“I said to you then, ‘Everything that happens in this world leaves traces, as long as it’s real. Without traces to support your opinion, however much you believe in it, it’s still only a dead end of the imagination.’ Fei Du, you may have had a certain intuition, but we can’t do our job based on intuition. My intuition tells me every day that I can make five million.” Luo Wenzhou’s gaze stopped on Fei Du’s fingers. Then, in an almost callously objective tone, he said, “And you know, there’s a theory abroad that says that if a person wants to kill herself, she may suddenly use some means to confess it to the people close to her—you heard her confession back then.”
Fei Du’s fingers suddenly stiffened.
Luo Wenzhou reached out his arm, pulled the paper cup out of his hand and put it aside. “If you really want to talk over this case with me, I maintain my judgment to this day—but it doesn’t matter whose judgment it is. That isn’t important anymore. She’s been dead for seven years. When the coffin is closed, you can judge a person’s life. The relevant evidence has all disappeared. This isn’t going to sound good, but if she’s reincarnated she’ll already be attending primary school. The living can cling on without letting go; it’s a form of emotional sustenance. But there’s no sense in blindly clinging to the wrong course.”
Maintaining his original posture, Fei Du sat without moving a muscle, as if he had turned into a statue.
Just then, Zhang Ting and the lawyer came out side by side, and Fei Du’s gaze moved slightly, giving off a trace of living energy.
“I don’t accept your conclusion, Officer Luo,” said Fei Du.
Hearing this, Luo Wenzhou wasn’t at all taken aback. He only shrugged.
Fei Du adjusted his jacket and stood to meet Zhang Ting and the lawyer. He looked down at Luo Wenzhou. There was no smile on his face; his expression was even somewhat somber. “But perhaps there’s some merit in your heartfelt advice.”
Luo Wenzhou was surprised, but after saying this, Fei Du once again put on his graceful mask and left with Zhang Ting. They didn’t have any further interaction.

No one asked, but as a writer struggling to get their work exposed, I figured I should give a few (hopefully helpful) pointers to other writers struggling with the same. Yes, these are points you’ve likely seen before, but I believe they bear repeating! This is also coming from my personal experience, and it’s definitely been a learn-as-you-go situation for me. I keep finding things out akdjskjhgf. But anyway, these made-for-Tumblr tips are pretty much the ones I find are worth following. Hopefully they can help your work earn a little more attention!
💜  FIRST, TAGGING YOUR POSTS.  It goes without saying that tags are the primary way to search for content site-wide. It’s important to know how to tag your work based on your audience, so you’ll be able to target who you need to, as many people at a time. On any original post, only the first five (5) tags will appear in tracked tags. Tumblr Help says that “Only the first 20 tags on a post will show up in searches,” and that can be helpful—but don’t feel confident with that! Tumblr Search is predictably unreliable and does not show you everything that’s posted! You will always want to aim for those first five if you want the best chance of having your post seen.
Adding to the above: Do a bit of research on which tags you’re planning on using so you’ll have an idea of which are the most active and largely used, specific to your fandom, character(s), ship, etc. Those are the ones you’ll probably want your post to appear in. Don’t just go for the tags that are maybe too big/broad/common, because your post will be buried among dozens of others before anyone’s had a chance to see it. You’ll just have to put in a little effort to see how other creators tag their posts and which tags they use as their first five!
Oh, an addendum: TAGGING YOUR REBLOGS DOES NOTHING. Reblogged posts do not appear in Tumblr’s searched or tracked tags. Please don’t bother re-tagging the posts you reblog from yourself because that’s really just a waste of time for you. ;w; Your first and original post is the only one that will count in terms of being indexed and searchable! So you have to make its tags count when first publishing it to Tumblr!
💜  SECOND, BE CONCISE.  Your summaries, blurbs and whatever additional information you write should not be too long or too convoluted in language (unless it’s your intent to do otherwise). This should actually be direct, clear, and give readers a pretty good idea of what to expect. Provide as much information as is needed, but no more. For summaries or blurbs, name a few of the characters, the setting, and the conflict—but keep the climax and resolution to yourself! Unless, of course, you don’t mind giving out all your work’s selling points. But mystery and surprise can certainly draw attention.
💜  THIRD, GIVE YOUR POSTS GRAPHICS.  It’s unfortunately true that a picture can be worth a thousand words, so it’s a good idea to add either a banner to your posts, or a cover image for a specific fic, series, collection, the like. Images capture attention more easily, more frequently, and to more success in the end. Your writing may not keep the reader’s interest...but at least your image made them curious enough to give it a look! You want those clicks: out of ten failed visits, at least one will result in a like, a reblog, or a follow. So do better your chances by adding relevant graphics to your posts! And always be relevant: you don’t want to use misleading imagery, or you may earn a reputation of dishonesty.
By relevance, I simply mean to ensure that the image you choose to use matches the theme or content of the work you’re posting, or at least have it represent the characters involved. If it’s something romantic, horrific, or perhaps comes from an anime or video game, just use your better judgment to best convey to potential readers what your post may have to offer them! While it’s no rule, it certainly helps with giving readers a more accurate idea of what to expect from you.
Oh, and: DO NO USE FAN ART OR PHOTOS THAT DON’T BELONG TO YOU. I shouldn’t have to say this. No one likes to see their content being used without consent. Don’t steal from your fellow content creators. If you have your heart set on a particular piece of theirs, please ask for their permission first and state your intentions! And if they happen to say yes, please credit them appropriately in your posts; link back to the work they let you use! Yes, use images in your writing posts, but be careful about how you do it! If you’re not sure or are just uncomfortable, then go to the public domain, or use license-free images, or maybe take your own screenshots from games, TV, anime, even manga. Remember to claim no ownership over the content itself. And always seek permission when the content is coming from someone else.
💜  FOURTH, BE CONSISTENT.  Whether that’s with your tags or graphics or how you engage with an audience, just be consistent; keep a vibe, style, theme, attitude going and keep it familiar so it’s easier for your “brand” to stay in people’s minds. They’ll recognize you easier, they’ll remember what you do, they won’t have to think twice about potentially reblogging from you or telling their friends about you.
💜  FIFTH, NETWORK. Reach out to and support your fellow content creators, writers especially. They will benefit from your engagement as much as you will. Leave a comment, reblog the post, send an ask—interacting with another author and showing them support is not only a great mark of solidarity, but it feels good to do! They need the exposure as much as you do, so don’t be afraid to help them out. If you genuinely like their content, reblog it! If you have the time and the energy, don’t be afraid to mingle with other members of the fandom, or creators who are in the same sort of genre or environment you are. Always be friendly, kind, and humble. Networking gains visitors, readers, a growing audience; and if you happen to make friends as you go, then you will have an audience that will genuinely care about you and the work you do. Networking will benefit others with your presence, as well. If you have an established audience, as small as it may be, those people may gain an interest in your peers’ work, and begin to engage with them. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved! And if a small group becomes a large group, it will undoubtedly pique the interests of people on the outside. Knowing how to network can go a long way in attracting increasing attention, but it takes dedication. Just do your best with this, and go as far as you can within your social capability.
💜  SIXTH, ASK FOR REBLOGS.  This one’s going to cost you a bit of your pride, but there’s really no shame in asking for people to reblog your work. Sometimes the most direct way is the only effective one. You’re going to have to be ruthless and shameless about promoting yourself out the wazoo while making sure other people are actually seeing this. I of course don’t mean that you should be rude, pushy, or obnoxious when you do this, because that’s only going to turn people away from you; but, you do still have to be a bit persistent about it. Reblog yourself once a day, maybe twice at different hours of the day; and if you own multiple blogs, don’t feel bad at all about reblogging your own content there. Just, you know, use your better judgment when it comes to how often you should actually promote yourself. There’s a fine line between persistence and annoying the heck out of folks.
If you want to go into the tags asking for a little more support (i.e. reblogs, reads, etc.), do that. Politely, kindly, humbly. And not excessively. Look into the tags you post to, to see how far down your last post has been pushed, and calculate when you’ll next post your tagged promo based on that. It sounds a bit complicated, but once you get into a rhythm, it will become a habit.
Another thing you can do, on the same post where you’ve got some work to upload, is leave a small note either on the top or the bottom (before the body of text) encouraging folks to reblog the work if they like it. It’s not exactly subtle, but it’s not in-your-face, either. I can’t speak for its effectiveness, but it can’t hurt to have a fixed reminder there for a reader to look at one day, and figure, Huh, I should reblog this. There’s always the chance that thought can spread.

Unpopular opinion: it’s disheartening to see rec lists. I know those (like you) create them with good intentions, to help support other writers and share their stories… but it always seems like the same people get their stories featured, while writers like me don’t ever get included, despite following all the same people. It just makes you wonder if your writing wasn’t good enough, or not memorable enough, or if those people don’t follow you back or dont care about whatever you post. Just feels kind of defeating.
Tumblr media
#i am so so sorry#i can relate to feeling defeated about this#it's hard not to compare yourself and once you're in that headspace it's hard to stop#as someone who creates rec lists i agreee that some fics get recommended more than others#and i will say it puts me in an awkward position where i want to include the fics but at the same time it's not fair to exclude a fic#it isn't the writer's fault and it seems kind of shitty to exclude them#but it doesn't mean it doesn't have an effect on others like yourself#that being said i do think there are a lot of different factors that contribute to this#the sw x reader community isnt as big as people think it is#and the tumblr tag system is fucked#i used to use it a lot to find new fics but since deceember it's completely broke#it excludes a lot of fics#and includes fics that aren't even tagged with the tag i'm searching for#and i know people don't like to hear it but reblogs have been down#and low reblogs happen for a number of different reasons#but if the tags are broken adnd reblogs are low it means that exposure to fics is down#and something that isn't talked about a lot is the push from other social media platforms#a lot of the fics that get recommended a lot fo times are coming from people that found it on tiktok or twitter#and it's going to piss off some people but i think people on other sm hyperfixate on certain fics#and it turns into that fic being the new cool hyperfixation to get views and interaction#and yes it's a good thing#but it also means other fics are tossed to the side#but i guess that is how social media works#but i will always recommend that if someone accepts recommendations then RECOMMEND YOUR FICS#seriously#do it#do it right now#a lot of getting your fics out there is you needing to sort of push your way in#you need to remind people they are there because things to get lost in the shuffle here on tumblr#and trust me when i say that self-recommendations are more common than people think
