Dp x dc
The one where Danny is perfect balance. He only has ecto levels when transformed. And doesn’t have any human dna as phantom.
Useful for hiding.
Bad when the anti ecto acts pass and the Giw begin to collect any contaminated citizen. Bigger problem when Danny is the only amity Parker not contaminated.
The GIW had announced they will begin decontamination on the citizens. Danny was held for a while but never showed any signs of contamination.
This leading to Danny being placed in the custody of some unsuspecting outsider.
It’s definitely a coincidence that the new city Danny has been forcefully moved to suddenly has the appearance of phantom. The GIW most wanted.
Definitely not a cause for concern when phantom starts hunting down villians and heros alike trying to convince anyone the GIW is conducting experiments on the contaminated. Not trying to cleanse them like they claimed.

The anti ecto laws go into effect just before S2E2 “Doctors Disorders”. So when Danny’s entire class, including Sam and Tucker, becomes sick with ghost flu and start exhibiting ghost powers, the GIW swoop in and cart all the sick kids off to a GIW facility. They claim the kids are all ecto contaminated and therefore fall under the anti ecto laws! And the GIW aren’t concerned with trying to help the kids get better. Instead they’re experimenting on them. Danny knows he can’t get into the GIW facility to rescue them on his own without getting captured. So he does the only thing he can do, he goes to the Justice League for help.
The Justice League, and the Justice Dark are all together in the watchtower for a meeting when Danny shows up. He’s an absolute mess because his friends and classmates have all been taken by the GIW. And he latches onto the first person in the room that he sees. Which just so happens to be Batman. Now Batman has a sobbing hysterical ghost child clinging to him! Everyone is super confused. It takes them half an hour to calm Danny down enough that he can explain what the problem is.
When they find out about the anti ecto laws and what the GIW have done they are all horrified and pissed!! They immediately set out to rescue Danny’s classmates. And if they just so happen to accidentally destroy the GIW facility along the way well none of them are to broken up about it. After the kids are all rescued, cured from the ghost flu, and returned to their parents, the Justice League sets out to get the anti ecto laws repealed. They reveal to the whole world just what the GIW did to a whole class of innocent human children while using the anti ecto laws as cover to do it! The whole world is outraged! It only takes two days for the laws to be repealed, and for the GIW to be permanently disbanded.
A few days later Danny Phantom does a live tv interview where he answers questions about ghosts and the ghost zone. He hopes that this will help people better understand ghosts and their true nature.

Danny Phantom X DC Batman Angst prompt
Here's a little angsty fic idea for you all.
Bruce has his computer set up to notify him about anything that deals with the Lazarus Pit. He's taking no chances with that glowing green water! The batcomputer would notify him if any chemical trace from the Lazarus Pit just pops into the system. It doesn't matter where, from forensics collecting evidence from a crime scene, a criminal's drug testing, or a scientist just investigating a petri dish.
When the batcomputer notifies him that it picked up traces of the chemical that's found in the Lazarus Pit. He immediately starts investigating. He finds that it's been found in a batch of medicine in one of Gotham's hospitals (in which he funds) Investigating even more, it turns out the the chemical formula of the Lazarus pit has been modified and what's even more interesting is that the the patients that had already been administered the medicine have shown small signs of improving health with no side effects.
With some detective work, Batman is able to trace it back to Mr. Freeze. When confronting the villain on what he's found. Mr. Freeze says nothing. He's completely silent. Batman figures that whatever Mr. Freeze was working on had to do with trying to cure his wife hence the medicine that's been improving sick people's health. But Mr. Freeze has no ties to knowing anything about the Lazarus Pits. So through a bit more investigating, Batman is able to have a lead and traces it down to an apartment building. When investigating it, he finds Danny.
It turns out, Danny and Jazz moved to Gotham in an effort to prevent Danny from being taken by the GIW, be experimented on by their parents, or be controlled by Vlad. They were sitting pretty in Gotham for a couple of months until Jazz's health started to take a turn for the worse. When Batman takes a look into Danny's apartment and sees Jazz. He immediately puts it together.
Jazz has cancer.
The medicine that had traces of the modified Lazarus Pit compound was chemo drugs and they were being used on those who were going through chemotherapy. Danny was working with Mr. Freeze in an effort in making a regenerative medicine from ectoplasm in an effort to cure his sister.
(think about the glorious angst of a teenager trying to figure out how to save his dying sister while also trying to keep themselves hidden from all of his enemies)
(and also the batfamily that is totally going to try their best to help Danny and Jazz)
(You think, Batman's going to just sit there and look at a seriously stressed out kid with a sick sister and just leave them like that)

YOU MAY REGRET DOING THAT
Jazz Fenton has done many things she regrets in her life and unfortunately she just added another to her list as she stares at the four members of the Justice League at her door. She had just gotten home from dealing with the consequences of her actions when her door bell rang and low and behold the Superman, Flash, Green latern (The first one she thinks) and Black Canary are standing at her door looking pissed and ready to fight
Okay so maybe she really shouldn’t have exposed the fact that her parents hunted ghosts to her friend but how was she to know that it would blow up after someone overheard her explaining everything and unfortunately that included the Ghost Zone and Danny being the Ghost King but to fair most or nearly all of amity park already knew (it was kinda hard not to when for weeks ghost kept challenging Phantom for the Ghost King title, it wasn’t hard to figure it out) so she thought it would be okay.
It wasn’t okay. AT ALL
Because as soon as it blew up that her parents tried to erase an entire species that were way more powerful than humans and to even continuously target the king of that realm even as he protected them from Ghosts (even if amity park knew most ghosts just wanted something to cure their boredom) her family became under fire
Her parents were first of course. They had all of there P.H.D’s taken away and were thrown in prison for reasons she wasn’t bothered to remember but than someone had released a video of her firing at Phantom (out of context of course, he was trying to improve her aim. It wouldn’t have even hurt him, they were just small stuns which at most would leave him with a bruise) and she was next (she had already tried multiple times to prove that she never hunted Phantom but people never believed her. They said she was just making excuses)
It started as People on the streets yelling at her about how ‘inhuman she could be’ and how ‘she was just like her parents’ which was fine she just ignored it and continued to study (she had a dream after all) and than she was kicked out of her college and her life started to fall apart. Her landlord had already given her a notice that she would have to find a new place at the end of the year as she would not be renewing the lease and every place she applied to were quick to decline her with snide comments
It had gotten even worse when just before she had seen the Justice League (almost every member. Wow was there a lot) say that they were trying to get into contact with the Ghost King to apologise and ask for an alliance (they had quickly gotten rid of the ecto-laws when they found them and most of the GIW were thrown in jail thankfully, the only good thing out of this whole thing) but they couldn’t get in contact with him. Apparently they were doing a gesture of good will to show and she had felt dread when almost five minutes after she heard her door bell ring which leaves her here staring at the four members of the justice league and only now she saw the handcuffs hanging from each of there hands
Fuckkkk
Now she normally didn’t swear but this was a situation where it was granted okay?
One of them (Green lantern maybe) raised his arm towards her and she felt a giant pressure around and against her body, she looked down to see a giant green hand holding her tight, a little too tight if the pain in her chest was anything to go by.
“Jasmine Fenton you are under-arrest as of now for conspiracy to eradicate another species as well as aiding and abetting the murder and torture of countless Ghosts” The girl said (It must have been Black Canary) her voice was firm but she could hear the anger behind her words. She was horrified, with those charges there was no doubt that she would get life in prison. Her parents had plead insanity as Vlad had told them to but there was now way she could or even try that approach, oh fuck would she get the death penalty?
Jasmine felt like her world was crashing down around her “No you don’t understand! I didn’t do any of that. That video was taken out of context please you have to believe me! I didn’t do anything I swear! I was helping Phantom! Please!” She started to cry out before she felt the hand around her tighten and she ended up screaming.
“That’s funny, that’s exactly what your parents said. They were trying to help Phantom. Let me guess, was he a abomination that needed to be destroyed at all costs or was it he was just a ecto-entity that was caused by the imprint of human emotions and destroying him was helping him move on and that he didn’t feel any emotions or pain at all?” She heard Flash snidely comment and noises of agreement from the other three
“There’s no use trying to create excuses now when your caught. You should have thought about that before deciding to try and kill and entire race of people” Superman spoke up from where he was floating above the ground “Now let’s get back we still need to track down her brother”
She froze, Brother? DANNY? THEY WERE AFTER DANNY?! Oh god why do the bad things always happen to them. She just hopes that Danny stays in the Ghost Zone so he doesn’t get caught, he wouldn’t even know what was happening, the hero’s had destroyed the portal in the basement so he was trapped until he found a natural portal or used Vlad’s but they were in a fight right now so she doubts he would risk willingly to run into Vlad.
Superman must have heard her heart rate spike because he turned to her and the question that she had been dreading since the few seconds she had to freak out “Do you know where your brother is? I will have you know there is no use lying because we will know and it won’t add any brownie points to be hiding a active fugitive”
Jazz mutely shook her head, she knew they could tell she was lying by the head shake of disappointment from Superman and the yank toward by Green Lantern
“Have it your way than, we can add the charge of hiding a wanted fugitive and withholding important information about a case” Flash sarcastically spoke from besides her
“Let’s just hurry and get her into a cell please” Black Canary called out already starting to walk out of her hallway toward a open window where they must have entered due to the size of it “I would love to put my efforts into finding the last Fenton to put behind bars, that would be great” and off they went, her stuck in a huge green ball flying towards what she assumed to be their base.

Danny finds a little dragon that is wearing one of the cursed necklaces he was able to catch him but could not get the necklace off. He did not mean to also get cures and turn into a dragon now he needs to keep the person turn dragon and him safe and away from the heroes so they do not turn them into the GIW while trying to break the necklace and the cures.

Fun (scary) fact: Amity park's citizens will die of cancer, furthermore, at 'young' age (30-50's years) because ectoplasmic pollution (small particles or ectoplasm itself) in the air or in items ghost had possessed is a radiation. Human somatical cells mutate faster than they should. It also affects on their reproduction: the number of born-mutants will increase, problems with fertility as well. (Of course, halfas are immune, they don't care about poor people (Vlad got ecto acne before he developed this immune))
It could be an alternative subject for Danny's bioproject (s1 ep3). Ah, Sam, your little ghost boy could scared your classmates to death but you suggest to research gorilla's behaviour.
(I've just realised 80% asks for you was mine: ghost king au with pompous pep marriage, DP as anime?, omega/malewife Vlad, soulmates, contact infection au and etc. (but not Vlad's bites-detectors) I guess I talk too much :( )
That's very plausible! Maybe the worst thing about it is that it takes 10 years for all the cancer signs to show up, then another 10-15 years to figure out what's causing it. If the Fentons haven't moved out of Amity Park by then, they'll have to when angry mobs start showing up on their doorstep. Maybe things get bad enough that the GIW gets involved. The federal government comes under fire for allowing private citizens to pollute an entire town, intentionally or not, and Jack and Maddie are faced with the difficult choice of ending up working for the GIW (why let all that good research go to waste?) or going to jail for a long, long time.
Tumblr media
And then Vlad steps in, perhaps after 20 years of living in recluse following the events of Phantom Planet. He's barely aged. He offers to help the Fentons out of their jam and redeem himself in the eyes of the world by developing a cure for the ecto-cancer he's been working on* (a derivative of the cure for ecto-acne that he received during the events of Masters of All Time), for which he needs their help.
Tumblr media
The cure works, and the Fentons are allowed to continue their research under the supervision of Vlad Masters/Plasmius, who went from most hated man in the world to its beloved hero... and of course Danny is disgusted with this turn of events. (But at the same time he's also kind of glad to see Vlad again. The old fruit loop seems to have calmed down a lot in the past 20 years, and he did help his parents out of a terrible mess, basically restoring the Fenton family name... Maybe it's time to forgive and forget.)
* I like to think that after Vlad got out of the hospital in the early 80s, he stole the ghost portal plans from Jack, perhaps trying to find out exactly what was causing these strange new abilities he had. In the process, he ended up rebuilding the portal and correcting for all the flaws—such as leaking ecto-contaminants. (Maybe that was his role when working with Jack and Maddie: always better at improving upon ideas rather than coming up with new ones.)
Tumblr media
Sorry, anon, I seem to have gotten carried away. LOL 80% of these asks may be yours, but I don't mind! They're fun and I really enjoy answering them, so no need to apologize :)

Dp x DC Crossover Concept I think is fun but will never have time to properly write
Several years ago the scientist of the GIW were investigating the miraculous resurrection of Vlad Masters by ectoplasm. Their team managed to isolate the cause to a randomly mutated gene that he possessed which they dubbed “the ReGen Gene”. A project known as Project Phoenix managed to splice this gene into what was eventually just two viable human embryos made primarily of genetic material provided by the project’s Lead Scientist Sheila Haywood and one of her male friends. The specimens were implanted into the friend’s wife who had volunteered thinking it was part of a research project to cure something or other.
One of the junior scientists on the team [the future Dr. Maddie Fenton, in fact, although that was not her original name] had a crisis of conscience about the work and decided to tell the woman carrying the babies the real nature of the experiment. When the woman learned that the plan was to intentionally kill the babies to see if they could be brought back to life, she decided to go into hiding. With Maddie’s assistance, she convinced her husband to flee with her to Gotham City to protect the babies.
When the children were born, they decided that keeping the twins together would make them easier to find. The couple, under the assumed names of Willis and Catherine Todd, kept the older one and named him Jason. Maddie took the other, and moved her small family with new identities to a random town in Illinois, where she determined to raised Danny alongside her own young daughter as her son.
Things mostly happen the same as the original canons; Maddie and Jack continue their work in ectology and eventually this leads to 14 year old Danny unknowingly proving the experiment a success, replicating Vlad’s resurrection and acquisition of powers. Danny still keeps this from his parents so Maddie has no idea. Vlad’s obsession with Danny is fueled by the fact that he figures out Danny is one of the Project Phoenix subjects and is convinced that because Danny shares that *one* gene copied from his own DNA, he should be considered Danny’s true father. (If he found Jason he’d also try to steal Jason as his son)
Jason’s life follows the same pattern, except for the fact that Sheila Haywood (who was fired from the project for losing the specimens and went rogue trying to get them back) had been actively searching for signs of him, only to locate him after he’d been adopted by Bruce Wayne and was too well protected to simply be snatched away (she’s tried hiring kidnappers a couple of times, and every single time, either Batman or Nightwing or fucking Superman had been on their assess before they’d even made it out of Gotham. The woman just does not possess the resources to fend off the entire Justice League when they’re determined to protect the son of a billionaire socialite for some strange reason). Sheila does plant the other birth certificate in the hopes of him eventually deciding to come to her before resuming her still fruitless search for the other twin.
Unfortunately for Sheila Haywood, when her plan finally works and Jason seeks her out, he brings along the Joker and the Batman for the ride. Sheila tries to make this still work in her favor by making a deal with the Joker and arranging for Jason’s death so that she can then bring him back to life and finally prove her experiment a success, but that backfires and she is killed too. Jason’s corpse is taken away by Batman to be buried in Gotham.
Now, there’s not a lot of ambient ectoplasm in Gotham’s atmosphere. However the Lazurus Pit buried under the city has contaminated the soil with low levels of ectoplasm through leeching over the years. After some time, this is enough to revive Jason, but not enough for him to manifest powers or completely heal the brain damage he suffered at death before he crawls out of the grave. Talia shows up to whisk him away.
Not exactly clear on all the details, but Danny is eventually captured by the GiW and placed in containment to be studied as their successful experiment (the Fenton parents might be killed in the struggle to capture him maybe?). They also finally manage to locate Jason, and when they learn he’s already dead they send some people to retrieve his corpse to see if he can be reanimated too.
There is, of course, no corpse to be obtained, and they have to regroup and communicate with their bosses to decide what to do. Their activity drew the attention of Robin, who sets up surveillance of the grave site. That means when a couple of the GiW goons come back to test the soil for ectoplasm, Batman and Robin get a front row seat to their conversation regarding Project Phoenix, the fact that they’ve concluded Jason has been resurrected, and the fact that Jason’s long lost twin brother is currently being held prisoner in a high security facility and making himself a nuisance for his guards (one of the goons has spent time on Danny guard duty and has much to say about it).
Batman and Robin go rescue Danny!
Jazz and Dani were *also* trying to find and rescue Danny, using a magical tracker from the ghost zone that relied on using Dani’s blood to lead them to the one who shared her blood. Unfortunately for Dani and Jazz, the GiW facility is shielded against this type of ghost tracking. Unfortunately for Talia, who has just finished giving Jason his Lazarus Pit Bath (and unwittingly suppling the rest of the ectoplasm needed to properly give him his ghost powers), the League of Assassins is *not*
Basically, the two parties rescue the twin that’s not their own and then have to work to find and reunite with the other group without knowing the others are also actively on the move and searching, so they keep missing each other. Danny is freaking out because not only does he have a twin brother who also died and came back, the twin was apparently adopted by Batman, but Batman is helping him hide from the GiW so that’s cool. Jason is trying to learn as much as he can about his new powers from Dani while also protecting his two new sisters who keep trying to protect *him* instead even though he has actual vigilante training, except he can’t tell them that, and the League of Assassins AND the GiW are both after him and all he wants is to get back to his dad and the help them find this twin brother of his he just heard about. (It is important to note that the Jason, Dani, and Jazz party are all simultaneously convinced they are the most competent member of their contingent-Jason due to his training and history of survival, Dani due to her relative mastery of ghost powers and history of survival, and Jazz due to her age and perceived maturity—and are privately trying to take on the full responsibility of protecting the other two)

More DP x DC au prompts:
_ Amity's Exception: If you listen to DISTRACTIBLE Podcast featuring Markiplier, Bob and Wade on Spotify or YouTube, then you would have heard the episode with the Aladdin exception. So it's a similar concept, where the only people that can really help amity are either magicians or the non-meta batfamily.
_I'm a monster and I'll make you suffer: Danny is tired, tired of all the hate he gets, from the town he is trying to protect, from the GIW who want to eradicate his species, from his bullies and Vlad, from Sam and Tucker voicing their opinions on ghosts and not letting him think for himself and definitely from his crazed up ghost-hunting parents. One day, a big battle happens between him and another ghost that result in a misunderstanding, that they can both agree it was a mistake, but the fentons show up and start spewing bias nonsense about ghost kind. Sam publicly tries to defend the ghost, but ultimatly is bribed by her parents to confirm the fentons bias. Danny vehemently denies their facts and says he is not a monster, though they firmly believe he is one. Unknowingly, Circe or Klarion is in town and decides to cause some chaos. (Ghost have an funky reaction to magic.)
Circe or Klarion hits Danny with a spell at the same time as the fentons shoots their ghost revealer weapon and the whole town watches as their hero mutates into an eldritch creature. At first Danny screeches in pain as his form shifts, his face melts off to show his now space like skin, four more sets of eyes appear on his face all fully the neon green, his fangs become more pronounce and elongated, he slowly grows another set of arms with claws, a tail, two pairs of wings and a set of horns on his head, all matching his space skin. He is also quite bigger in this form and all his scars are visible. Suddenly the former phantom screeches, paralyzing all around him with fear as he books it out of town. (Sidenote that screech was so powerful, he was able to close the Portal to amity including Masters one in amity as he was the one to introduce ectoplasm to amity park.)
After Eldritch Phantom leaves, only the fentons are really happy before realizing their son is gone, so when Jazz and Danny's friends explain what really happened and where Danny is, they are shocked to discover that they sent their boy away, they decide they are going to find Danny and help him get back to normal before figuring out how to support his new changes. (Not great! Jack and Maddie, but they care for their son.)
Meanwhile, Vlad is searching for Danny with Skulker hoping to manipulate him into joining his side and curing his new form. To his surprise, Danny's new form is too much too handle and is forced to retreat. (Danny is definitely stronger than Vlad, due to the exposure of pure ectoplasm and the size of the portal. Keep in mind, Danny's brain is similar to a wild aggressive animal now, and while Danny struggled as a human ghost, he has no problem curb-stomping Plasmius now.)
Somehow this gets on JL or YJ radar and are forced to confront E! Danny. It's a difficult battle for whoever is fighting him, till the resident feeling reader attempt to read E! Danny's mind. All the team hear is <Pain... Fear... Sorrow... Anger...Betrayal...Too Young to Suffer... Alone... Child..> and that's what clues themselves in on something different about this foe. They are able to calm him down somewhat.
At the same time, the Fentons and Jasmine have clued onto Danny's signature and are approaching him. Danny sees them and starts to freak out more thinking they were here to end him. Jasmine is the only one safe enough to practically be beside eldritch! Danny and he won't panic. The team asks who the fentons are and they reply that they are the boy turned beast's parents. They somehow are able to get E! Danny to the watchtower where the resident magicians are able to craft bracelets that will hide Danny's new true form, while his parents try to figure out how to reverse the effects of their invention on Danny. ( They don't realize magic was involved, so it did not work.)
When Danny is able to speak again, his parents profusely try to apologize for hurting him, but it's a little too late. Danny gives them an ultimatum: Either destroy or move their life's work and focus more on the family, with more scientific proof of their theories or lose both Jasmine and himself forever. It's because Danny explains to them that Jazz and himself shouldn't have been to be the responsible ones in the family at a young age, that Jazz shouldn't have taken the role of Mom to take care of Danny, that they should notice when he comes injured by bullies and not assume it's ghost and listen to them for christ sake. That Danny and Jazz's lives are permanently damaged by literally growing up with unstable and untested chemicals and guns around them.
Route A: They agree to the demands, are forced to attend family counseling with the kids and rework their entire world views.
Route B: They disagree, thinking they know better than their kids. The fentons are sentenced to jail for child endangerment, child abuse, needing mental help among many others and all their asset are frozen and given to their kids.
If Vlad even tries to adopt Danny and Jazz, it will get denied because the JL know who Danny is and he has told them all about Vlad and his methods, the GIW and the Anti-Ecto Acts, so even if Vlad looks in his direction, it's automatic engage on site.

Dp x gr ? (danny phantom x generation rex)
OOOHHHH MY GOD!! YES!
Wait, wait, let my mind go wild for a second while I type while I think. For starters, I'm running off of Generator Rex logic since that is ingrained into my mind more so Danny Phantom also I love it more.
Everything is fairly standard history for the creation and attempted containment of nanites, Rex becomes more or less a child solider under the watch of Providence, and overall living through the end of the world like it's no big deal. Danny Fenton, however, starts off like a normal kid. After the Nanite Event, his parents go into working on how to figure out both an independent cure for the nanites infecting people but also holding really similar beliefs to Hunter Cain.
The Fentons think the nanites are bad and once you go EVO, you're more or less stripped of your humanity and morals AND ethics are just out of the window. No longer seeing them as human and something other than animals (probably due to mechanical influence of the nanites being literal machines), they see experimentation as totally fine. Danny and Jazz are rightfully horrified.
Things get worse when Danny is caught up in one of their experiments and he becomes heavily infected with nanites, turning him into an EVO. However, he's like Circe and Rex in that he can control his nanites. Danny gets a more ghostly appearance and can do stuff that's basically his ghostly wail and ectoblasts. He can sense EVOs nearby too. He takes on the identity of Phantom, an EVO superhero who takes down EVOs. When he doesn't have his nanites under control and goes full EVO, damn he is some eldritch abomination.
Danny fights EVOs on in his own town, protecting it the best he can. Because of his parents and their research, there is a higher concentration of nanites in Amity Park but due to Danny getting the EVOs under control, Providence doesn't view the town as an anomaly. Sometime later, Rex and Bobo are sent to check out the town and they can tell some weird spooky shit has been going on there.
The two run into Phantom during him fighting an EVO and they run in and help to contain and deactivate it's nanites. Both Rex and Danny are surprised to see someone else who has control of their nanites. This leads to Rex trying to convivence Danny to join him at Providence while this freaks Danny out and refuses to go. This kinda causes this on going cat and mouse situation over time where Rex is trying his best to help Danny and Danny is simply like "I came to get this EVO that's from my town back there, leave me alone you wannabe robot!"
Also since the episode "The Forgotten" aka where the Bug Jar was introduce, it heavily implied that Providence wasn't the only group that existed trying to get the nanite situation under control. Because of that, I am forcing the GIW to exist this universe as an equally shady but way worse ethical place that is trying to control and reduce nanite related events. Danny's parents end up working for the GIW and things probably go to shit in all honesty on Danny's end, enough to make him seek out Providence for help.
I can't think of anything else but I know because of Hunter Cain, cloning DOES exist so you can also throw in Dani existing. Vlad can also be an EVO but does more shady dealings with the Consortium.

So I don't like talking about specific fics if I'm not recommending them, particularly if they're not well known fics, but I want to talk about the dpxdc one I was reading the other day.
So overall it was a pretty solid fic. I liked the majority of it. But it's plot centered around danny having gone through medical torture by the giw and the way its added into the story doesn't work (the plot centering around it isnt my issue.). The graphic stuff is confined to chapters 18 and 19 of 20. I don't think how graphic it is adds to the story at all, but that's not enough for me to want to talk about this fic specifically. The quality of the build up and characterization goes down in these chapters. It's kind of in the way shows that get their episodes cut feel, but more like they added too much into too short a time frame (it's pacing is consistent (i went back to double check what was and wasnt tagged and noticed it was 100k words, its paced really well.)).
It's the characterization that bothers me the most. Specifically with Bruce. Because one of these extremely graphic sections happens because they're watching the recorded experiments, and bruce stops them from stopping the video because he wants to know Danny's weaknesses. Nightwing is literally throwing up and Tim is crying and asking him to stop because he doesn't want to watch the guy he's dating get violated and torn apart– and bruce has no reaction. It feels like character assassination except there's no consequences for this happening. I'm hopping back and forth as I write this, Bruce's characterization in the first 17 chapters was really nice and refreshing.
If the scene hadn't happened I'd of completely overlooked a lot of the other things that bothered me. Like it uses the drugging/tranquing tim bit that I really don't like, it's really dangerous and unhealthy and that kind of rest doesn't make someone well rested. The introduction of dani felt like it was only a plot device to get danny kidnapped again, and her being there doesn't do anything other than move the plot along and make the last few chapters feel- unsatisfying maybe? Jumbled isn't the right word because it's not, but she tips it over into there being too much to cover in a satisfying way. I initially went to type cohesive, but that's not an issue here. They way they transition between segments is fine, but trying to cover so much makes it so there feels like there's a lot missing and points that should have been addressed are forgotten about. Like I said earlier it's paced well and it's consistent, and I think that's why she feels like the problem.
This isnt helped by the fact that she doesn't do anything. And by that I mean she has no plotline of her own. Them finding out she was kidnapped leads to danny finding out sam and tucker have been around and ended up helping Jason and to Danny getting kidnapped and tortured again. She is explicitly written to be completely fine after the months of torture (because she's only 3 and most of her life has been a lab experiment, which is not a good reason) and her existence magically cures jason of his pit madness. And that could all be given a good reason, but it's not addresses. It happens and they move on. Like that's it, their characters are done now.
Jazz also shows up, gets tranqued after figuring out that the Wayne's are vigilantes bc comedy comes in threes, and is then there to insist danny should come to live with her despite there never being a good scene of them interacting. Sam and tucker are also written to be inconsiderate in that scene.
Anyways. I think there was somthing else about it I wanted to add but idk. Once again, the gore itself isn't what bothered me. I think, and this is a more general ao3 fandom space thing, that the specific type of graphic depictions of violence in fics should be tagged. Like if I see graphic depictions of violence and medical torture together I'm prepared for graphic depictions of medical torture but when it comes up in the 17th chapter and wasnt tagged that I don't know it'll be there, ya know. I do think the fic was tagged appropriately, but I think over time dddne has become watered down so it doesn't give the same amount of warning as it used to. Thus isn't saying the fic was tagged wrong at all btw, it was tagged fine. Although it is tagged with "vague descriptions of sexual violence" and "the idea of it more than the acts," and I feel like that could of been addressed more in the tags. It happens durring the medical torture and I feel like if it's implied while that is accusing it needs more warning.
Edit: They do put graphic depictions of medical torture into the beginning notes, I went to check because I don't read those consistently. And that is on me. I stand by vague descriptions needing more warning if they're in conjunction with what else is being graphically depicted in that scene though.
This turned into more of an overall review instead of the vague posting it was supposed to be. So. I give the fic a 6/10 but with an explanation. It feels like an 8 to 8.5/10 overall for the initial reaction, but on my scale I'd take a point for the dissatisfaction with how the plot points end and the use of gore not always feeling necessary. 6/10 feels harsh but correct to me.
The fic is wanted: dead and alive by astereae. I wouldn't not recommend it, but beware if you're squeamish, the graphic depictions are extreme although no where near the worst I've seen, and up to that point I really liked it. The ending kills the reread value for me, but I like the beginning enough that I might go back to parts of it. Idk.

Submitted Prompts #99
Jazz went to Gotham to finish her degree away from her parents, as their obsession with Ghosts started becoming dangerous to everyone. So, of course, she brought Danny with her, so he's also far away from them and the GIW.
Danny held out a whole year without going out on patrol, just establishing his haunt in the new city. Lady Gotham was very happy to be able to show them to their new place, almost giddy that the little King and his Queen Mother have come to live in her beloved city.
Of course, the first time Phantom floats out of his window and into the night, he has a new suit, made of padded black leather, and a fluffy white cape with a hood (imagine the Lightkin Cloak from Destiny2, but snow white, rather than black and grey), along with a facemask engraved with a fanged design. New haunt, new look, and the new look fit right in with the viciousness of Gotham City.
And, as luck would have it, his first Gotham Rogue was Poison Ivy. Thinking back to his fight against Undergrowth, Pantom opened with his ice, forming a double-sided axe to better cleave her vines apart, and locking Ivy herself down with ice.
To further distance himself from his identity as Phantom, in case the GIW somehow became smart at some point, instead of blasting ice like most ghosts fire ectoblasts, Danny asked Pandora for lessons on fighting with weapons, and Frosbite taught his how to channel his element as an aura, or a freezing breath. He even sat down to listen to Nocturne speak as they wove spells and ectoplasm, and the Personification of Dreams softly taught him how to use his powers through objects acting as catalysts, or as manifestations of his will, rather than throwing his affinities around by brute force.
With his new abilities and look, rather than fight like a feral raccoon, Danny took to fighting more like a spellblade, slinging around ice shard and spells to enhance his physical strikes, controlling the pace of a fight to get the upper hand on his enemies.
Suffice to say, Poison Ivy hadn't expected the Avatar of Icy Vengeance to lock her in a pillar of ice up to her neck while her vines withered into frosty sculptures.
Gotham's newest hero got awarded a new name by the news the next day: Ymir, Frozen Progenitor.
Danny thinks it's too pretentious for a random ghost, or random halfa, like him. Joke's on him, the perception of Gotham's people slowly starts empowering him, slowly enough that the only reason he notices his oncoming Ascension to myth as a Protector Spirit is when a terrified kid begs for his help, and he hears them loud and clear out of nowhere.
The Bats are confused by this Entity. Constantine stepped one foot in Gotham, felt it's cleaner air, the sharp bite of ice in his nose and lungs, and the overwhelming pressure of the new Godling training under Gotham herself to control his new powers, and ran out screaming about not getting paid enough to deal with divine beings. Zatanna is trying to contact Ymir to ask them to join the Justice League Dark.
Jason is vibing with the tall redhead Amazon he's met at Babs' library, and her feral little brother who cured his Pit Rage by biting his arm when they first met. One time Jason is in a pinch after a stakeout gone wrong, Bellona (Ancient Roman Goddess of War) takes the fight to his captors to free him, dressed in golden armor and wielding a spear Pandora and Firght Knight made for her. Nocturne and her brother worked together to imbue a spell into her back to give her wings she can use to fly or fight with. The fact it left a badass tattoo on her back, is just another way Jazz rebels against her parents. It also has Jason weak in the knees when he first sees it.

Hey! I really like your Batfam AU and was hoping we could maybe get another snippet? It's totally ok if not though. Have a nice day! 😀
Was gonna save this for later, but...
"Commissioner." Long practice had kept Jim Gordon from reacting. Though he'd had just as much opportunity for practice, Bullock still swore.
"What's going on, Batman?"
"A head's up. In three days a government agency intends to invade Gotham. They are going to be met with resistance. I won't ask you to stand against them, but you need to be ready. They're not known for avoiding collateral damage."
"What do they want and why shouldn't they be getting it?" Jim wanted all his facts in a row.
From underneath his cloak, Batman brought out a picture of a young boy who looked familiar.
"That's Wayne's new kid." Bullock recognized. "Danny Something. The one Masters was trying to get."
Batman nodded. "And Masters is indirectly the reason for the current problem. Masters obsession with the boy, as well as the boy's mother caused him to leave half his fortune to each other them. Which is what prompted Danny to come out of hiding."
"Hiding?" Jim prompted.
"He's a metahuman. His parents were...not as accepting as they pretended. He fled his hometown after his sister freed him from his parents laboratory as they prepped a procedure meant to 'cure' him, but would have ended with him dead. They apparently considered that a more acceptable outcome than leaving him as he was."
"And he choose the street of this city rather than going to the police because?" Bullock challenged.
"Danny exists in a grey area. Metaphysically and legally. His powers are linked to ectoplasm. The Metahuman Child Protection Act guarantees the same protections to a metahuman child as a normal one. However the Anti-Ecto Act states that being made of ectoplasm or able to create it are classified as undead, automatically lose all human rights, and are open season to be experimented on or exterminated. That is the law that the Ghostly Intel & Warfare agency are choosing to operate under."
"And Danny didn't have any guarantee which law the authorities would choose to follow." Jim concluded.
But Batman shook his head. "He knew exactly what would happened. His hometown has had a rash of problems with malevolent spirits. The go-to response of the authorities is to turn over all matters ectoplasmic to the two resident experts - Danny's parents."
"Ouch." Bullock commented.
"As far as he was concerned, his choices were disappearing or death. But Masters threw him one last curve ball. If he stayed in hiding, his mother would inherit all of Master's fortune. With a comfortable income, his parents have managed to create numerous weapons that would count as war crimes if they were effective against normal humans as well being the main crafters and proponents of the Anti Ecto Act. Imagine what they could do with a billionaire's resources."
"The only way he could stop the situation from escalating exponentially would be to claim his half and use it to counter theirs. But that would let them know where he was." Jim realized.
"They attempted to gain custody back so they could 'fix' him." There was no hiding the contempt in Batman's voice and the other two couldn't help but share the sentiment. They'd seen enough aftermath of parents attempting to fix their children. Some ended with the parent behind bar, some with the child. "Not only did they lose and get slapped with a restraining order, the judge removed their daughter from their custody, deeming them as unfit parents. In retaliation, they informed the GIW exactly where the ectoplasmic son was."
"I've managed to gain access to their plans." Batman slid a folder towards them. "I've already talked with Wayne and his family. I've convinced the rest of the household to leave town before the GIW arrive. Wayne was adamant in his refusal to leave Danny, until it was pointed out that taking him or Tim Drake hostage to ensure Danny's cooperation was written into their plan. And sadly they couldn't just abscond with him as the GIW can track Danny's energy signature, and any attempt to leave the country would likely be met with governmental resistance."
Jim passed the folder to Bullock. "This is stolen government information, I can't-"
"Read it Bullock!" Jim ordered in a tone that brooked no argument. "What's your plan, Batman?"
"Wayne's lawyers are working on making sure Danny is covered exclusively under the MCPA and well as preparing a publicity campaign ready to launch the moment GIW steps foot in Gotham. It shouldn't take more than a day for Danny to either become more trouble than he's worth to the government. At which point the GIW will either give up or go completely rogue, in which case we can bring in the hea-"
Batman was interrupted as Bullock smashed his fist into the wall. He pulled back to punch it again, but Jim caught his arm. "None of that Detective. We're going to need you in top condition in three days, not nursing a broken hand."
Harvey looked like he wanted to argue, but held it in. "Your right. Lotsa of governments agents are going to need their faces smashed in."
"I can't ask you to fight the government."
"You think we need your permission?" Bullock snarled. "Any sickos who'd do that to a kid aren't welcome in my city."
"Gentlemen," Jim came between them. "We have three days and a lot to do in that time. Rest assured Batman, anyone who's sit on the sidelines for this isn't fit to be in my force. Bullock, fill in Montoya. The two of you are in charge of starting to get the GPD prepped. Batman, I'm sure you have work of your own to do."
The dismissal was clear, and Batman stayed just long enough for the most heartfelt "Thank you" either of them had heard from him before disappearing. Jim grabbed his jacket and left the precinct. He understood why Batman had insisted he couldn't ask them to stand against the government. This was going to bite them all badly, but he couldn't not do it. And if the only way they had of protecting the kid was buying time, then what they were going to need was chaos.
He arrived at his destination, and made his request. Soon enough the person he had come to see looked at him from the other side of the glass. "Why commissioner, what brings you all the way out to Arkham to see little old me?"
"You're a criminal, yes, but not insane. Not like most of the others are. You also have your own sense of right and wrong strong enough that Batman trusts you, so let me ask you this. Selena Kyle, how would you like to commute some of your sentence to community service?"

Jasmine Fenton's speech on ghosts!
During Sunday's ghost rights protest, Jasmine Fenton, daughter of ghost hunters and owners of Fentonworks Madeline Fenton and Jack Fenton, gave a speech to the crowd. The Ghost Investigation Ward (GIW) thought it best to avoid the media showing this speech until all tests of overshadowing had been conducted. After confirming that they were all negative and none of the participants of the protest were being overshadowed, the GIW have given us the okay to show the speech and some of the events of this protest.
[[Video:
The shot opens to show the general crowd in front of the Town Hall. The camera is clearly a phone as the video is taken portrait and very poor quality in both sound and visual. The person holding it seems to be trying to hold it as still as possible but it's still shaking.
The video begins by panning the crowd of protesters. Some people are holding big signs and posters that read "Dead but still alive!", "Ghost rights!" and similar phrases. The camera pauses and zooms in on the few posters displaying support for Phantom or his logo.
"Can I please have everyone's attention?"
The voice is staticky and muffled as though coming through a speaker.
The screen blurs as the camera quickly turns to the front of the crowd to show the top of the steps to the Town Hall. There at the top stands Jasmine Fenton, Daniel Fenton and the ghost Sydney Poindexter. Jasmine is holding a megaphone and a sign that says "A second life is still a life!". Daniel is standing with the ghost holding another sign, "Dead but still alive!". Sydney seems to be trying to look confident as he stands with false bravado but is half hiding behind Daniel.
The crowd slowly quietens until there is only whispering between people. Jasmine turns and nods at Danny who then moves to stand closer next to her with Sydney. She gives her sign to Sydney and takes Daniel's hand before turning back to the crowd. She holds up the megaphone and starts talking.
"Thank you for coming. It means a lot to have this much support for this cause. I get that not everyone understands what we're fighting for or maybe you're only here for one ghost."
A few cheers come the crowd and the camera goes to a group of people near the back holding signs of Phantom's logo. The camera goes back to the front when they go quiet again.
"But we're here for all ghosts. Not just the ones we like or the ones we know. All of them."
The murmuring gets louder.
"We know ghosts are dead. Or at least they were. You can't tell these people don't feel or think the same as us. That they don't care or love or fear the same as we do."
Daniel gently nudges Sydney who has been stuck staring out at the crowd. He snaps out of his trance and moves closer to Jasmine.
"This is Sydney Poindexter. He went to school. He had a family. He has interests and passions. Dreams and nightmares. He is just like us. It took a lot of courage for him to come here today. He was terrified when he heard how many people were coming and was even more scared when he learnt the GIW were going to be here."
The camera quickly moves to the very edge of the protest where multiple white vans were parked. People in white uniforms were moving between them with huge glowing weapons. The camera goes back to Jasmine.
"But he's here anyway. He came because he doesn't want to live with this fear everyday of his life. And he doesn't want every other ghost to be stuck with this fear as well."
She nodded to Sydney. He seems to let out a sigh and goes back to his spot slightly behind Daniel.
"What we're fighting for is for Sydney to not be scared. For every ghost to be able to come to the human world without having to hide. They have every right to not be hunted like animals. To be studied or dissected to cure someone's sick curiousity."
Some shouts of agreement could be heard from the protesters. Some others yelling about the ghosts who fight and hurt people.
"Of course there are ghosts that cause problems. Just like there are people who cause problems. But we don't kill and dissect every person who does something wrong. They should be treated the same no matter their intentions."
The shouting gets louder. Both sides of the argument getting more passionate. As the noise grows louder and louder, Jasmine tries to get the attention of the crowd again. Daniel drops his sign and grabs the megaphone from her hand, yelling into it.
"Ghost's aren't evil! They don't just come out of the Ghost Zone evil! They come to fulfill their obsessions! And yeah, sometimes they don't do it in the best way but they aren't just evil. They should be treated the same until you know for sure that they are dangerous. You can't look at a ghost and immediately know if they're gonna do something bad! And you shouldn't assume every ghost is bad!"
The shouting stops and the protesters calm down. Daniel hands the megaphone back to Jasmine who whispers something to him. He shakes his head and picks up his sign as Jasmine starts talking again.
"Danny's right. You don't know a ghosts intentions. How would you feel if someone you love became a ghost? If they came back and said they didn't want to leave you, that they loved you and cared about you all the same. How would you feel if they were hunted? Captured? Experimented on? If you were told they were evil even though you know they're the same?"
"That's a strawman argument!"
A voice shouted from somewhere in the crowd.
"No, it's not! Maybe I am playing on feelings. On human empathy and compassion. But sometimes it's the only way to make people see reason. To make them think, what if this was me? What if it was someone I cared about?"
Jasmine's voice begins to crack and she moves the megaphone away for a moment, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand. Daniel moves a hand to rub her arm and whispers something. Jasmine nods and hands the megaphone to him.
"Jazz knows what she's talking about. We shouldn't have to tell you to care about people but here we are. We shouldn't have to make this a personal problem but we do. Because if we don't..."
He stops and Jasmine pulls him closer a little. She's still crying.
"Then it's just gonna get worse."]]
The rest of the protest continues much the same as it did before but with added vigor. The speech seemed to rile up the protesters, mostly due to now having an actual goal and leader. When people began to leave, Jasmine and Daniel were seen handing out flyers with the demands of the protest and how to help. When most of the crowd was gone, Madeline Fenton and Jack Fenton were able to get to there children and, after a brief argument, took them home.
The GIW urges readers to ignore the flyers and the protest. And to regard them as nothing more than the ramblings of scared children.
We at Amity Park News urge you to think for yourself.

Sleeping beauty just need some coffee IASA Chapter 4
He gasped, sitting up in shock. However, something refrained him from getting enough air and was shoved up deep into his throat. He chocked and grasped whatever was blocking his airways, ripping it off. Suddenly he could breathe again and he took big gulps.
His eyes flitted around the room in a panic, not recognizing where he was. Something to his left caught his eye and he stared at the woman that had been checking a machine next to him.
The woman dropped what she was holding and screamed.
He screamed back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sam had been staring out the window for a long time now. She didn't pay attention to whatever the teacher was saying. Few kids did.
Word of Danny had gotten around pretty fast and by the end of the first day everyone knew. It had been chaos.
Some people were angry and wanted to bill the Fentons for all the damage Danny's fights had gotten them. Some wanted to report the parents for child abuse. Most were furious at the GIW for disrespecting basic human rights and trying to capture a boy and were pestering the government to shut it down. The president, however, wouldn't back down, saying they were the best of the best at ghost science and this town needed them.
But almost everybody was grateful for Danny and all he'd done for the town.
A lot of people had visited him in the hospital. Including several of Sam's classmates.
They would also continuously ask the two friends questions.
About how it happened. If Danny's parents had known. Whether they got to fight ghosts too. Whether Danny would keep protecting the town or if he was ok.
Sam honestly didn't know. It had been two weeks. She'd never been more worried than she was now. The more she thought about it, the more it made sense, though. He had been exhausted. Physically and mentally. He was probably on the bridge of collapsing anyways and that blast must have depleted his energy reserves.
She sighed and glanced towards Tucker, who was staring at his phone. The device was turned off and pushed far away on the table, but the boy didn't take his eyes off of it.
All of a sudden, a sharp ring interrupted the teacher. Everyone jumped a bit in their seats and they turned to look at Tucker, who was scrambling to pick up his phone and putting it on his ear.
"Yes? For real?!" Tucker's eyes widened and he looked at Sam. "He's awake!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They burst in the hospital room. They had memorized the way long before and could walk from the receptionist to the ICU wing in their sleep.
Their eyes immediately fell on the small family in the corner.
Maddie looked about ready to cry and Jack was standing still with furrowed eyebrows. It was not a sight Tucker and Sam had expected to see.
The cause of all this grief was sitting up on his bed with a frustrated expression. He didn't have a breathing mask on anymore and the IV had been removed.
"Danny!" Sam cheered and sprang forward to hug him. He tensed under her hug and she frowned, letting go. "Danny?"
The boy huffed, looking incredibly uncomfortable. "So I've been told. Who are you?"
She was so perplexed her arms went slack. Tucker sucked in a gasp and they both turned to the doctor that had been standing next to them. He cleared his throat. "Yes. Daniel seems to suffer from Amnesia. From what you have told me and what we discovered, this was caused by a combination of sleep deprivation, malnutrition, and recent stress. The severe concussion he recently got sealed it. It affected his hippocampus." The doctor stopped reading from his paper and looked Danny over before continuing. "From what I have gathered up to now, he seems to only be affected on the explicit memory, meaning the memory of the places and the times and the people. Or the who, what, where, when and why. However, the implicit seems normal, thankfully."
"The what?" Tucker breathed out, barely able to form words as he tried to understand everything happening.
"That means the skills he has learned. He can walk, talk, breathe, and all the motoric functions he has learned throughout his life, as well as riding a bike or reading. However, I'm not sure whether his semantic memory is damaged. This is the common knowledge. For example the days of the month. Or when his birthday is. The damage on that may vary."
The raven gave an exasperated sigh. "If you go through that explanation one more time I'm gonna give myself another concussion."
"Well," Tucker smiled weakly, even though tears were threatening to fall, "he didn't change personality-wise."
The other boy grinned. "He did say I still have the skills I learned. Must have practiced my sass a lot because I'm a pro."
Sam snorted. "Yeah. You did." She turned to the doctor. "But they will come back, right? This isn't permanent?"
For the first time, the doctor's face fell. "I- we aren't sure. Retrograde amnesia, which is what this condition is called, doesn't have a cure, but there are some ways to coach old memories to come back. Most patients remember their oldest memories, but Danny doesn't seem to even have that. If he does regain some memories, it will most likely be from early childhood. However, we can't be sure. It could get better, worse, or stay like this for the rest of his life." He looked at the pale faces in the room and smiled encouragingly. "But I don't think it will get worse given that this was a brain injury, first and foremost."
He nodded towards the parents. "Before I run a blood test and prescribe anything, I need some questions answered." He took out a list and a pen. "Did Daniel take medications? Any past health problems? For example seizures or strokes or infections? Did he take drugs?" He crossed over every time they shook their heads or wrote down when they mentioned something about a panic attack or how he had had an accident in the portal.
The doctor shook his head. This kid was a walking medical catastrophe. It was no wonder he ended up with amnesia. He sighed and put his papers down. "I'll send for a drug test and he'll have an MRI scan. After that he will have to stay in the hospital for a few more days until he is fully healed. Daniel, will you let us put back the IV?"
Danny scrunched his nose. "Ugh why. I'm awake now. I just need some food. Do you guys have some fries?"
"We'll get you appropriate food after the IV is back on. Your body is still short on nutrients."
"Please, Danny." Maddie begged. "The sack also has some ectoplasm. It will help you heal faster. You will be able to get out of here sooner."
Danny pursed his lips. This woman claimed to be his mom, and let me tell you how weird it is to not even remember your own mother. He wasn't even sure if he could trust these people. They could be lying to him for all he knew. But he had no other option. Besides, that woman gave him a comforting vibe. He smiled at her unconsciously and nodded. "Alright, but the second I'm out I want pancakes."
All the medical procedures had been run and the doctor had decided Danny would stay two more days before he could go home. All Danny's injuries had been healed during his coma. He claimed nothing hurt and only complained about getting food. Something nobody was surprised about. The boy hadn't eaten normal food in weeks. What they were surprised about was that he was so restless. He should be tired. In fact, he should still be unconscious. But nobody was about to complain about that.
What Danny really wanted was a bath. He felt dirty and gross. He was horrified to learn he'd been washed during his slumber and couldn't look at any nurse in the eye after that.
However, he felt especially uncomfortable when groups of strangers walked through the door and grinned at him and gave him presents and took pictures.
He glanced at the table next to him. It was simply covered in 'thank you' and 'get well' notes and some kind of merchandise. He had also gotten many pictures and drawings, but they were so confusing he couldn't figure heads or tails of it. On the other side were also some balloons and a few stuffed animals and to top it off, all around him were flowers.
I must have been some kind of celebrity, Danny thought. But why were they thanking him?
A girl suddenly burst through the doors and tackled the poor boy. He let out a yelp and she let go just as fast as she'd latched on and started rambling.
"I'm so sorry. I came as soon as I heard and then the plane was delayed and I first had to arrange a short vacation and I had to finish this assignment and they wouldn't let me go saying you weren't in danger of death and they said 'Alright, you can go, but if you don't get that degree it's on you' and I swear I was about to strangle them."
Danny couldn't understand what she was talking about so he took the time to inspect her. She had long brownish-red hair and he could honestly see the resemblance to his apparent mother. This must be Jasmine, his older sister.
The girl seemed to catch on that Danny wasn't responding and she paused, looking at him good for the first time. They stared at each other in silence for some time, taking in the other sibling.
Jasmine held out her hand and smiled. "Hello. My name is Jasmine, but you can call me Jazz. I'm sorry about just now. I was a bit worried."
Danny blinked in surprise. Why was she introducing herself? She must know he had amnesia. He grinned. It felt nice to know at least someone didn't come asking him if he knew them or expecting something from him. He shook her hand. "I don't think I need to introduce myself since you probably know me better than I do. You're my sister, right?"
Her smile brightened and he silently congratulated himself. "Yes. I'm two years older. So I'm nineteen and you're gonna be seventeen in Oktober 27. It's July 13 today. I just came from college."
Danny smiled softly, grateful for all the information she was giving him. He felt awkward having to ask such simple things. "Are you in the first year?"
She nodded. "I'm studying creative therapy. To put it simply, it's a kind of therapy for people who can't put their problems into words so instead do it with their hands. The therapist then can study their movements and results to see how they think and how to help them. There are many types and I'm doing a mix between drama and art."
She continued talking and Danny listened. He learned so much. She told him all about her and her life and her friends and even what recently happened in college. It was as if they were catching up on old times.
She didn't mention anything about Danny, or what he used to do or what they did together and he was grateful for that. It would have felt like she was telling him what he should have done and he would've felt obligated. It was an insane thought, given that all that had happened in the past, but he didn't want people telling him who he was.
They talked for hours. Mostly she was the one speaking, but Danny often put in his opinion or input in something and she would laugh.
At one point, a violet-eyed girl and a dark-skinned boy walked in and joined them. Danny remembered them as the two people who were there when he woke up. He tensed a bit, but they just greeted him and sat down. They said some words to Jazz and turned to look at him.
The boy wiped his hands on his pants and cleared his throat, but at a look from Jazz he smiled at Danny. "Hey, man. I don't think we told you our names. I'm Tucker Foley and that's Sam Manson."
Danny nodded towards them, but frowned at the girl. "Are your eyes naturally purple?"
Sam rolled said eyes as Tucker laughed. "No." She admitted. "They're blue. I got these contact lenses from my grandmother. She didn't want them to go to waste."
Tucker laughed some more. "Her grandmom used to be really rebellious as a teen. She saw potential in Sam," he told Danny and so the conversation went into flow again.
Sam and Tucker telling Danny about themselves and complaining a bit about school. They also told him how they met.
Apparently, Danny had known these people for practically all his life. Since kindergarten. That was a weird thought.
Jazz had glared at them for bringing that up but Danny sighed. "It's ok, Jazz. I'm gonna get this a lot from now on."
Sam winced. "Sorry. Just thought you'd want some background information. If there's something you don't like talking about we won't. Just tell us, alright?"
Danny shrugged. "That's just the thing, Sam. I don't know anything about anything. Everyone expects me to know all kinds of stuff and then it's just gonna get awkward." He huffed, frowning. "Whatever. It doesn't matter. I'll just figure out what my life is now."
Jazz grinned, beaming proudly. "That's the way to look at it, Danny. Just start off fresh."
Except that wasn't entirely possible. The moment Danny was admitted out of the hospital he knew his life was way weirder than he had thought at first.
When he was let out there was a crowd waving him off and cheering and he got a green sock thrown at him so that was a nice way to enter the world fresh.
Then there was the house he apparently lived in.
He honestly had no idea what to say about that. It looked like aliens had infiltrated earth and were doing a terrible job at laying low.
He sighed, ignoring all the paparazzi and following the two adults inside. It was much better inside. It was very clean. As if it had been prepared for his arrival. That just made him feel more guilty.
Maddie and Jack were grinning at him as they gave him a tour of the house. Maddie more nervously, while Jack was excited.
The first and second story were pretty normal. On the first was the kitchen and the living room. Then upstairs were all the bedrooms. Danny paused in what was apparently his room. It looked pretty clean and neat. He must have been either a perfectionist or his mom had tidied it up for him. He was gonna go with the second one.
Finally, he was shown the basement and the op Center, which is what they called the UFO on the house. The UFO looked exactly how Danny imagined a UFO would look like. It was huge and had a lot of wires. Somewhere something was beeping, but he couldn't figure out what.
Then the basement. Danny shivered as soon as he entered. He saw millions of weird machines and guns and a milkshake maker he decided not to trust. The name Fenton appeared everywhere. Like a logo.
Then there was a door at the other side of the room. It had a beethemed pattern as if warning people of toxins. Danny felt like he should put on a face mask or something to protect himself. His father was wearing some type of protective suit.
"What do you do for a living," he asked, exasperated.
"We're ghost hunters!" Jack grinned, leaving Danny with a baffled expression.
"Why do you hunt ghosts?" He asked, stumped and curious. The part about ghosts didn't surprise him much. It felt as normal as the fact birds were chirping outside.
Jack's expression fell and he exchanged a look with Maddie. "Well son." He started cautiously. "We're ghost scientists. We have been studying them for years. We sometimes catch one to learn more about them from up close."
"Like they're animals." Danny frowned and his parents grimaced.
"They're not all sentient, Danny." It was Maddie who said this. "And Amity park has been haunted by ghosts for years. Most of them attacked and destroyed."
"Well maybe most of them just stayed home minding their own business and the ones that did mean bad came here so we don't see the other side of their world."
To his surprise Maddie smiled softly. "Yes. You may be right."
They didn't tell him much about the things in the basement. In fact it was the shortest they had been in a room and they practically shoved him back up the stairs.
They stayed in the living and talked a bit and Maddie went to the kitchen to cook some dinner because it was already pretty late in the afternoon. Danny had a foreboding feeling. Probably because how Jazz paled and sent him a few scared looks.
Danny stood up and followed his mother to see her fumbling around the fridge, trying to find something that didn't try to bite her hand off. "Hey?" Danny started, unsure if this would be seen as impolite. "Do you want me to help you cook dinner?"
The woman brightened considerably as she slammed the fridge shut and smiled at him. "Are you sure? I mean. Yes, I would love it if you did this with me."
Danny nodded and rolled his sleeves up before washing his hands. Maddie's eyes widened when she realized she'd forgotten to do that.
"So what are we making?"
Maddie scrunched her face. "I'm not sure yet, Danny. There isn't much left that is edible."
"Where do you keep all the food?" Her boy's eyes searched the small kitchen and she remembered he had forgotten all of that.
She pointed out the fridge and a few cabinets and he looked through them, bringing out many types of ingredients and selecting a few out. He asked for the pots and the pans and she pointed it out. He asked for herbs and she showed him. He asked her anything and she gave him the answer, watching in amusement as he fell right into his element.
Maddie settled back a bit as she saw him swiftly cut some carrots and dump them in the pot. She smiled. It had been a long time ago that Danny had taken the job of a cook in this house. Given that no one had any insight in it or kept mixing the sauce with the wrong chemical (what do you mean chemicals aren't supposed to go in food?). The raven had looked up recipes or he would cook ready-made food.
He'd started simple and after a while started mixing in his own stuff and experimenting. He had loved it. Maddie had let him drop a few chores so he would have time to prepare and make dinner. He would write a list of groceries and tape it on the fridge and Jack would go buy it.
In fact, Maddie could see the last note he had written still on the top left of the refrigerator. Her eyes watered a bit.
"Are you ok?"
She wiped her eyes and nodded. "Just that onion you were cutting just now. It's fine. Go ahead. You're doing a great job." She smiled. "Anything else you need?"
He shook his head as he flipped some pieces of meat on the sizzling pan. "Well, not for now. There are no more potatoes. And when was the last time you refilled the salt? And I had to use something else instead of the paprika because that's all done too. And you got way too much beef. How are you going to eat it all before it expires."
Maddie's smile turned nostalgic as she saw all he listed right now written on the little sticky note on the fridge. "We usually don't," she told him, earning herself a look of disgust.
Finally, the dinner was ready and they all say down to eat. Each family member congratulating the boy on the excellent food and what would they do without him. They didn't mention how they'd barely survived the two weeks he'd been absent.
Jazz was just in college, but Jack and Maddie had to constantly order pizza or eat in a restaurant every night. Even something as making some toast was always a hassle. Not only because the toaster sometimes malfunctioned and threw up the bread so hard it stuck on the ceiling, but Maddie was also very sure bread shouldn't be green.
Now they had Danny back. Everything had changed. Just....everything.
But he was back.
They talked a bit more. Danny asked about the many drawings they'd had to carry back home along with the rest of the presents. Who was that man on the drawings that looked to be made by kids ranging from three to fifteen?
Jack looked excited to tell him something, but Jazz had shushed them. She smiled at Danny reassuringly. "How about we talk about that tomorrow. You have enough to think on right now." She stacked the empty plates and brought them to the sink. "You heard the doctor. Get some rest. I'll do the dishes. Don't worry about school yet. You have a few weeks to recuperate and get used to life."
Danny looked at each of the people in the room, taking in their appearance and demeanor. If this was his family, no matter how crazy, he loved it. He smiled and turned around, bidding them a good night.
He walked up the stairs and paused, trying to remember where his room was.
He had a small moment of panic when he couldn't recall right away. What if he forgot more things? What if he forgot whatever he did today? What if the doctor was wrong and my amnesia isn't just of whatever happened before the concussion and I'll keep forget- oh wait his door was the one in the left hall.
He sighed in relief when his assumption was proved correct as the door opened. He closed it behind him and took a good look around.
The walls were white, but they had been covered in many posters about some kind of egg band or about a Doom. He wasn't sure. There were also some NASA posters and the wall next to his desk had a big board covered in pictures. There was a blackhaired boy with Sam and Tucker. A lot of those actually. And some about random places Danny had no clue about.
But his eyes wandered to that boy again. Was that...him?
He hadn't looked in the mirror yet. It was strange. Not knowing what you looked like.
Was that really him?
He found a mirror next to the dresser and the closet. It was large. It could fit his whole upper body and a bit of his legs.
He paused before taking a peek. A pit in his stomach and a bit of adrenaline made him jump forward and stare at the boy in the mirror.
He looked a bit older than in those pictures. But he still has black hair, blue eyes, a small nose and smallish eyes and thin lips and fat cheeks and freckles. Although he felt better knowing he had a bit of a jawline and the baby fat was less than in the pictures. His hair was also longer. And it was messy. Probably hadn't been brushed in weeks. Even if they had washed it, as they said, it still looked greasy and dirty.
He didn't feel like doing much of his appearance right now.
He wanted to explore.
He put to the side the pile of presents his father had dumped in his room after having brought it from the hospital and went rummaging through his room.
He opened every drawer, looked at every piece of clothing and squinted under every piece of furniture and he learned a bit about his past self.
He didn't have much variety in clothing. It was mostly T-shirts, jeans and sweaters. There was one neat suit shoved in the back, though.
He had some kind of obsession with stars.
Same thing goes for ghosts. There was even a map in his dresser. Along with a long list of names and some kind of description behind them.
He looked in the bathroom, which he had found he had right in his room. He found a first aid kit shoved under the sink, which he found odd. The rest was just normal supplies for in the shower.
But for the rest, his old life was still a mystery to him. Danny wondered if he would ever gain it back. Had he always been this famous? Wasn't it exhausting? And why had everyone been thanking him?
He suddenly wondered where his phone was. He should have one right? He'll ask his mother tomorrow.
But he really wanted to look up amnesia on the internet.
His eyes fell on a beat up laptop and he tried to turn it on, but it had a password. The hint wasn't even helpful. It just said 'bitch' and Danny honestly felt attacked and offended.
He plopped down on the bed with a deep sigh.
Everyone told him to get rest, but that was the last thing he wanted to do. He felt so energetic and restless. He didn't think that should be normal. He was pretty sure patients just coming out of comatose shouldn't feel rested.
Sigh, just one more thing he wanted to look up on the internet.
He also wanted to know how he went into a coma.
The doctor had vaguely mentioned a concussion or another kind of head injury. Must have been bad. He'd also made it pretty clear Danny was up long before anyone had thought he would be.
Maybe if I had slept for a bit longer, Danny thought, I would have been able to keep my memories.
He groaned quietly. Nothing made sense. Life was a weird jumble of gibberish and with every piece of information he made out it just became even weirder.
He lifted his arm to look at one picture he found he liked. A white haired anime man was standing with hands on his hips and a cape fluttering behind him. Sparkles had been thrown around as well as glitter that had been glued on.
There wasn't a note or anything, just a boy's name. Joey. Along with a small drawing of a dinosaur that Danny didn't think had anything to do with the rest.
That same anime boy turned up everywhere. On the balloons. On the plushies. On the shirt he'd gotten. On the posters the poeple seeing him off from the hospital were holding.
Who was that dude??
And what did Danny have to do with him??
Danny stood up and walked towards the mirror again. He cocked one hip as he put his hands on them and frowned at the image.
"Who are you?" He asked the boy with exasperation. "And just how crazy is your life?"

So... what happened to Dr. Kerza? He’s got all the data bout Phantom and Valerie, surely he’s gonna get the full picture bout the half-ghost / hybrid thing right? The part where he just lets go of Valarie and disappeared to nowhere really bugged me for a long time OwO
Dr. Kerza, if you recall, managed to get away with his samples and far more data than anyone realizes, thanks to the absolute chaos the GIW was in during his departure. He takes a direct flight to an undisclosed location in Europe, where he is given a fully staffed and funded private lab, along with access to the only stable portal on the western end of the continent. He knows that the company that hires him is a front, probably for political interests--maybe even from multiple countries--but as long as he gets his funding, he doesn’t bother to ask.
Dr. Kerza is a practical man, even ruthless in some respects, but he considers himself ethical. He rejects all notions of kidnapping or use of prisoners. He experiments with animals and studies their corpses. He finds volunteers desperate enough to try dying as a cure. He studies their corpses too.
Men who wear suits but walk as if in uniform come by periodically to ask questions. Whether he can isolate specific abilities and splice them into human genetic coding. The maximum range of an ectoblast. Whether ghosts respond to psychological programming. Whether an invisible object appears on radar. He dodges their interrogations neatly, giving them just enough information to give them the impression that he’s made progress. They nod, write him a check, and leave.
A year into his work, there’s an incident involving some trespassing teenagers and a mysterious system failure that results in the lab burning to the ground. They lose everything, the data, the experiments, their records-- but Dr. Kerza still has his mind, and he has a good memory. The men in suits return and write him another check. He rebuilds. Given enough time, he’ll get what he wants.
