#I have a WIP about this event I need to finish it someday

for your ask game - what's up with #3 and #4? particularly word of the day haha i love the concept already
Thank you for asking! Okay, so, funnily enough both of these started out as stories intended for fandom events, and then I ended up going in an entirely different direction and they’ve sat somewhat abandoned ever since. I even posted snippets of Macabre because I was so sure it’d be submitted for that event, so if it sounds familiar, that’s why:
#3 - Macabre: the basic premise is that, post-war and post-wedding, Han finds out Leia’s written down every time she probably should have died but didn’t on a calendar as…I guess a coping mechanism of sorts while Han was in carbonite (she’s lamenting the odds of them being able to rescue him successfully, and Luke says to think about all the times the odds were against them and they should have died but didn’t, and Leia decides to take the suggestion very literally), and since most of the times she should have died are also times when Han should have died, they start celebrating the days as weird, personal holidays because…I dunno, gallows humor as a coping mechanism suits them both, I think. Anyway, I have 2600 words that I really like of this thing and then couldn’t decide exactly where I wanted to take it because one route would’ve meant a VERY long one-shot, the other would’ve felt incomplete to me, so it’s been sitting there while I work on other stuff. I did just think of a possible third option, though, but I need to think on it a bit more before picking the project up again.
#4 - Word of the Day: this is crack treated seriously for sure. Han realizes that Dodonna not only has a Word of the Day calendar, he tends to overuse whatever the word of the day is, so to keep himself entertained in meetings, he basically makes a game of trying to identify the word of the day and then keeping a daily tally. During a particularly boring and scattered meeting, he ropes Leia into it, which starts a series of inside-joke-type games they play to get through dull meetings/gatherings. The concept isn’t fully fleshed-out, but I’m clearly a sucker for people having rituals and inside jokes, so I’m sure I’ll at least attempt to finish it someday.

i carve my name...(wip)
oh that one!!! that one is a very angsty sad gen Sciles thing that i started for an event like 2.5 years ago, and one of the very few things that i picked a title for before finishing it cuz i neeeeever do that 😂 (alternate title option was "such a shame that we play strangers") i think it's set fully post season 5?? season 5 was fucking rough for them lmao and i wanted to explore just how much that season broke their friendship
He doesn’t say anything now. Scott knows he’s awake, so he doesn’t bother pretending that he isn’t. For a long few seconds, they just look at each other. Then Scott looks away. He shifts on his feet. Through the darkness, Stiles can just make out the way he opens his mouth and then closes it again. Stiles finds the energy to push himself upright. He rubs at his forehead and says, with a tiredness that goes far deeper than just a lack of sleep, “Is something wrong? What’s happening?” “No,” Scott says. “No, there’s nothing— Everything’s fine, I just—” He trails off, and Stiles lets him. Scott’s hand comes up to run roughly through his hair. Silhouetted against the streetlamp outside the window, Stiles can see that it’s shaking. Scott lets out a sharp breath and meets Stiles’ eye again. “I just miss you.” The words sit heavy between them. Stiles feels like they should mean more to him, like they should hit him harder. But he’s having a hard time feeling much of anything lately, these last few days especially. He doesn’t know what it is, but everything is five steps away and he doesn’t have the strength to reach for it. Scott is five steps away. He’s right there, and isn’t this what Stiles has wanted? Isn’t that what he’s been fighting for this whole time? Not to lose Scott? He still wants that, doesn’t he?
[...]
Scott shifts beside him. “Do you remember that game we used to play?” he asks, barely more than a whisper. “When we were kids?” Stiles’ breath catches. He swallows. “Yeah.” “Can we play it again?” Eyes already stinging, Stiles lets them close. “Yeah.” It’s another minute before Scott says anything else. He used to be quick on the draw, back when they were kids, always full of words bubbling up and spilling out. Even the stuff he would never tell anyone else, he didn’t hesitate to tell Stiles. And that was the whole point of the game, wasn’t it? They started playing it after Stiles’ mom died and his dad insisted he needed to “talk to someone”. He meant a therapist, but Stiles threw a fit. He didn’t want to talk to someone, and he definitely didn’t want some old guy asking him a bunch of invasive questions and telling him how to feel. “You can talk to me instead,” Scott said then, earnest as anything. “I won’t even talk back at you! I’ll just be nobody, and I won’t ask you any questions or tell you anything. You just say whatever you want to. I won’t even look at you, if you don’t want.” It doesn’t qualify as a game, really. But they played it a lot, in those months after he lost his mom. And they played it again, after Scott’s dad left. Whenever one of them had feelings they didn’t want to admit to anybody, the other would be nobody for a night and just let them talk until they’d talked themselves out. No questions, no responses, no eye contact. Just words in open air, heard but unacknowledged. It wasn’t therapy, but it worked for them.
it gets really sad from there ok even i'd forgotten how goddamn heartbreaking this WIP is, i really should get back to and finish it someday, if only to provide myself with some fucking closure akdljfgh

20 Questions For Writers
@pencilofawesomeness Doing this because why not
How many works do you have on AO3?
I have 17 works as of this post. There is a good chance that there will be many more. Pencil, I envy you and all your brainchildren.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
I am at a grand total of... 119,898 words. Holy cow! I'm willing to bet most of that came from AHC.
3. What fandoms do I write for?
Whatever piece of media I'm hyperfixating on at that point in time, though I do try to keep myself from writing too many multi-chapters. My main fandoms are Bleach, Fairy Tail, and Jujutsu Kaisen with what I write though I do plan on writing some stuff for NNT and Hellsing.
4. What are your top fics by kudos?
5. Apocrypha (Bleach) - 98 kudos
4. Dear God (Bleach) - 121 kudos
3. Just In Case (Bleach) - 204 kudos
2. A Hollow Crown (Bleach) - 413 kudos
A Wisteria To Our Eternity (Jujutsu Kaisen) - 581 kudos
Three of my top five fics are AiIchi. Wasn't surprised that AHC would be up there since it's kind of my HTTYDS.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. There are times where I can't figure out how to respond to a comment to I just kinda leave it be. Other times, I could respond because I want to know the audience's thoughts on a chapter or they mention liking this or that and I want to know why. To me, what helps improve writing is understanding not only how something works but why it works. For example, why do so many people like my characterization of Aizen in A Hollow Crown? What about his characterization makes people like him? Or I go to the comments when I need ideas and running around in my own head doesn't do the trick. Hell, I'll even leave it in the author's notes if I'm having trouble with a plot point and could use some audience feedback.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I'd say Ich bin verlore since it was a one-shot about longing for something you'd never have and wondering if what you did have was the real thing or not. Also, it's a Berserk fic so angst is inevitable.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
If we only include multi-chapters, then it could only go to A Hollow Crown since it's my only completed multichapter. And I'd say is a quiet sort of happiness, setting up for events to come and giving some characters a sense of hope. If we include one-shots, then I'd give that one to Dear God since it's an ending on a hopeful note where things can only really go up.
8. Do you get any hate on fics?
Nope! Hasn't happened to me.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
It's all yaoi smut. I tend to keep things from going into dub-con territory as smut where the consent isn't exactly clear is a squick for me. Any smut I write is between two or more adults, as I find writing smut of underage characters to be... ew.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I plan to write some. I've got an NNT x TOH fic I'm debating writing, one that's a big ol' fandom crossover inspired by Fear and Hunger 2: Termina. Another one I have in mind to write is this Bleach x Seven Deadly Sins that's moreso the world of NNT with the characters of Bleach (like pencil's Genshin x NNT fic).
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope, and I hope I never get one stolen.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, though I'd love to take a crack at translating my own fics. Gotta get in that translation practice somehow!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
I do have a lot of ships, but I wouldn't quite say I have a favorite. I've written the most for AiIchi but I'd love to write for some others. Also, I'm someone who is more on board for found family fics or fics just focusing on the bonds between people.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Someday, I will return to my WIPs and finish them! Or I'd like to. To be honest, I have sooo many in my head that I need to put to paper.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I'd say character analysis. Several people have said that I'm good at breaking down a character and seeing what makes them work and then putting them into a fic.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
This is more of a personal nitpick with myself, but I feel like I struggle with making my chapters long enough. How do I get myself to write longer chapters? I wanna write longer chapters, dammit.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
You're asking this from the world languages major! I love adding that in... well, when it makes sense. If I can use it to add some spice to a character or give hints about them *cough* AHC!Grimmjow *cough* then I'll go right ahead. Ya just need to do it in a way that makes sense both in and out of the story to where readers can get the gist of it.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Fairy Tail! Demons x Dragonslayers is my oldest fic and first wrote it on Wattpad but started its rewrite on when I started cross-posting it on AO3.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
It'd have to be A Hollow Crown and by extension its series Hollow Moon . Yes, DxD is what started my fanfic journey but it was A Hollow Crown that really kicked it off. It also started my obsession of 'what if Aizen but good but he was still Aizen'.

👀 & 🥺 & ❌
Tumblr media
i also answered ❌ in another ask so ill do the other two asks here :O !!
👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!
OOH ok i. i have two more pride if wips other than my current pride if otto multichap. and i really wanna finish all of them. one of them is a pride if reinhard fic and the other is. you know it was just supposed to be unhinged and incredibly cringe pride if ottosuba smut wrapped up in a small oneshot but now its unhinged and incredibly cringe pride if ottosuba smut with Probably A Little Too Much Plot and it probably wont be a small oneshot. oops 😳 every time…. EVERY TIME… i write smut i keep making it cringe on purpose. im so sorry i cant write anything genuinely sexy it just comes out cringe bc i find it entertaining to write sjdndn (for additional context i am ace ☝️i might write fluffy smut someday though akdnsns bc i DO love sweet smut <3)
ANYWAY the pride if reinhard fic. its planned to be a twoshot atm thats just going through the most important events of poor pride if reinhard’s life. and by important events i mean All the loved ones reinhard lost and then the entire country being set on fire 😭😭 idk if any fic has been made yet focusing on how reinhard like. gradually feels hatred and anger for the first time towards pride if subaru for Doing All That but id like to focus on that yes!! like its a Very big deal. and also i wanted to give joshua a cameo bc well. the dude Already despises reinhard regularly. the moment he finds out julius and ana brutally died and reinhard is Likely half of the reason why they died (the other half being to put emilia on the throne)…… anyway joshuas gonna be very upset with reinhard thats for sure!! ..and also this fic Might need a dead dove tag. totally not for reasons.
🥺Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?
EVERYTHING. but more specifically writing breaking points and the buildup to them 😭😭 the aftermath too!! like. even more specifically i love when the cards are Really stacked against characters and so they change for the worst. that gets me every time. they change so much that theyre like the trope where someone Comes Back Wrong and then they hit some sort of breaking point where hes Abundantly clear that theyre not the same anymore. if you get what i mean hah. but i love when suddenly everyone close to them has to confront this fact!! that theyre not the same anymore!! how will they all move forward from here?? bc change can be good or bad and its what you make of it…. will the character get worse or get better in the future??? idk i just love the angst of it all T^T the bittersweetness T^T having to confront the person you were and the person you Are and that even while theres differences theres still similarities to your past self…. which is probably why i like gluttony if and subaru a lot hah (on top of. heinkel……. if otto……..). like having to confront that this person you know and love is Different now….. that the love you shared with this person is Now gone and just a faint memory…. that stuff hits fr T^T like the baggage… the history… things wont ever be the same… that kind of feeling, you know?? and also additionally i love that quote from undertale that goes “despite everything youre still you”. yeah. yeah. 🤌 i like how this kind of development is so. its got Despair but if you so choose it there can be hope too….

So, I don't actually have that many WIPs lol. I tend to force myself to finish whatever I'm working on, even if I hate it, before I move on to the next thing, and I only get off track if life goes crazy or I need to switch gears for an event or exchange.
Currently, I have four WIPs.
two batch - just finished, but I have been dragging myself kicking and screaming through writing what ended up being a total of 22K words over the past 2 months, so I now hate it x) and will need a break before I go back to edit it and try to find a beta reader
hold on to let go - first four chapters are on AO3, and now that I'm done with two batch, I will crank out five and six so help me god
killing the mood - abandoned earlier this year when rl went crazy, but I do want to go back to it
a room with a view - abandoned last fall because I had to switch tracks to event writing, but I do also want to go back to it
As a bonus (since I have so few wips), here are the fics on AO3 I might someday end up writing a sequel or spinoff to, but have left as standalones for now
the better half - (I'd like to something??? with Matt's POV, but Idk what)
a pound of flesh

11 for the fic writer asks :D!
(from icehearts!)
Thank you, fren! 💖
11. a WIP you’d like to finish someday
I have two longfics that I am working on right now. They're from completely different points in Aureia's timeline.
The first is set during the Shadowbringers patches and deals pretty heavily with her relationship with Thancred, feeling untethered after the events of 5.3., trying to figure out what family means to her in the shape it has taken... She's older here, more mature, she's dealt with a lot of her issues, but there are other things she's bracing for. Ultimately this is about the push she needs to go and deal with her birth family (they're not great people) once and for all.
The second is set during the Heavensward patches and is a sequel to Divergence of the Heart. I have a bunch of fics planned to map out Aureia's whole relationship with Aymeric and I'm excited to have it be a little series in and of its own right. The sequel is mostly about them figuring out how they actually work as a couple within the fabric of Ishgard's social hierarchy, while she's balancing all of her duties as the Warrior of Light. There's also some private things she's working on and exploring (she's asexual and the sexual side of their relationship is a big ??? that she has to figure out 😂).
Hilda's here, too, since their friendship in HW is an important part of this journey.

2023 year-end fic round-up
Thank you so much to @chocomd @itsmoonpeaches @northerngoshawk for the tag! awww, it's a wonderful kataang squad.
words written, published or not: I published 68,911 words on AO3. I publish most of the stuff I write (can you tell I like validation?) so that seems a good measure of my writing.
smut scenes written (if applicable:) two? one for oh, darling (kataang, atla) and some dream sex and religious trauma content for my petals are bruised (tara x darcy, heartstopper.) You can tell I'm funky and ace because I have an easier time writing about hypothetical sex or desire or messy emotions than actual sex.
new things I tried: OOOOH this one will be fun!
Finally actually wrote a multi-chap fic that I (mostly) FINISHED before I published, for i'm cold-blooded, love (heartstopper fic), which got published in 2024.
Can you tell I am very obsessed with writing about religious trauma? I worked a lot on my stories and wrote a lot about sanctity and blood and messy feelings. That's the major influence of i'm cold-blooded, love; my stomach churns (zukka, atla); in reverence (kataang, atla); it's all an epiphany (heartstopper); father, carry me (heartstopper); dance like nobody's watching (miss fisher's murder mysteries); and the heartstopper jolene AU. god is the worst gift that truly keeps on giving. he's a goddamn three-headed hydra.
Wrote a lot more Heartstopper 1000-word prompt fics!
Had fun writing about Graham & Karen from Daisy Jones. They're the cutest. I honestly should/could write more about them.
Attempting to disconnect my writing motivation from the satisfaction of getting comments and hits on ao3. is it working yet???
fic I spent the most time on: my spirit always drifts back to yours, the kataang kyoshi warrior AU that I hope will be finished. Sometime. When my hands and my brain are cooperating. I promise this fic matters a lot to me, I love it a lot, and I need to insert so much tenderness and smut in the future chapters. SOMETIME. SOMEDAY!
fic I spent the least time on: in the velvet water, aka the heartstopper AU where they meet at a swimming pool. Was really busy and happy that night so I just published without a second glance.
favorite thing i wrote: probably my petals are bruised, the tarcy jolene AU / lonely housewife AU, because I love writing about suburban malaise and religious trauma and sapphics so, so much. Can you tell that I am projecting? Loneliness in the suburbs sucks. Writing makes it better.
favorite thing I read: lavender fields by scienceisrealyo (heartstopper); @kaalee's Charlie Spring is Still Not Over Nick Nelson, which I was lucky enough to beta; all of the amazing kataang fics that came out this year for kataang week and for the smut weekend event; everything ever written about love (RWRB) by greenandmoss.
writing goals for 2024:
FINISH MY OPEN WIPS ON AO3. I like it when things are completed.
Don't publish a multichapter fic unless I know I can finish it on a regular schedule. I hate leaving loose threads all over the place.
Try to care less about the numbers and the validation. Writing is about joy, not about the size of the audience. but also it feels so nice to get validation and the circle of life cannot close unless creators get feedback on their work....
Be nicer to myself.
Write more???? mayhaps?
tagging: @kaalee @tinyarmedtrex @firenati0n @nostradamus0 @beachy--head @mothfluff and anyone else who wants to do this challenge! No pressure, really, to the people I've tagged. Do it if you want to.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
I saw this going around a little while ago and wanted to do it myself mostly because it doesn't involve me having to answer about anything I did this year.
1. How many works do you have on A03?
20
2. What's your total A03 word count?
262,994, apparently
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Ace Attorney! I have to admit I've been writing persona 5 fanfic for most of this year but am still undecided on if I actually want to publish that. if I ever finish it.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
A Rose By Any Name (by a margin of like 1000 kudos), Deep Dark Secrets, Childswap, The Catch-Up Game, Love Languages.
I am eternally going to feel a bit bitter that the first one is that high.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I used to respond to them all the time because I love the interactions, but then I started getting burnt out by school and now have such a massive backlog..... so I pretty much never do these days. I'm very sorry and I still read and really appreciate all the comments I get!
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't write a lot of angst... and I definitely don't have a tendency to leave things on an angsty note. Maybe Need Not to Need which was in early disbarment era, or Left Behind, Looking Ahead because it's a missing scene in the middle of aai2, and Franziska ends it on the conclusion that she should prepare to not have Edgeworth in her life anymore.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Since I don't write a lot of angsty endings most of them are happy lol. Maybe The Opposing Council's Proposal because it ends on a proposal, which is a pretty happy event.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Nope! Everyone's been really nice.
9. Do you write smut?
Definitely not. It takes me like five minutes to work myself up to writing a kiss. I'm too squeamish about that kind of thing.
10. Do you write crossovers?
No, and I feel like that's not something I'd be very good at doing. There's so much work involved and I haven't had any situations where I feel like characters from different franchises have to meet in order to express some aspect of characterization that they couldn't do otherwise, which would be my main motivation for writing one.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I'm aware.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes!! Plenty of my fics have been translated into Chinese. I had one person write an entire rec list for my works in Chinese before and was so happy about it.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope, I feel like I wouldn't be good at this either, I've always been the kind of person who isn't good at playing with others and would want to take control of the whole thing lol.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
Narumitsu without question. It takes a lot to get me to actively care about romance, much less write it.
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I have a PLvsAA canon divergence fic where everyone stays brainwashed for a much longer time (and Edgeworth also gets brainwashed) that I wish I could finish, but I feel like it's a lost cause at this point. I have an earlier version of that fic which went in a completely different direction and is less than one chapter away from being complete. There's also One Good Narumitsu Story left in me that I've had in my head since 2018, never been able to bring myself to write it, and am not sure if I ever will. I hope I do someday, though.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think one of my favorite comments I've ever gotten talked about putting effort into developing relationships and characters outside of the main focuses of the fic - Catch-Up Game being an example, even though narumitsu is the focus, I spent some time paying attention to Phoenix's relationships with Trucy, Maya, Iris, and generally tried to make it seem like the characters had their own lives outside of what Phoenix and Edgeworth had going on. That's something I still feel pretty proud of and try to keep up when I can.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
DESCRIPTIONS. I can't describe people very well at all, probably at least partially because my facial recognition skills are atrocious. I can't describe locations or settings, either. I sometimes feel like it becomes far too obvious that I rarely leave the house.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I think it's fine on a one-off but not extensively. Like with Klavier as an example, the occasional Achtung or pet name or whatever is fine, but when it starts to be longer sentences or full conversations I draw the line.
Overall I think the best way to handle it (in a hypothetical conversation between Franziska and Edgeworth, depending on if the POV character is Edgeworth or Phoenix):
a) If the POV character speaks the language (like Edgeworth), doing something like "Franziska switched to German, so Phoenix couldn't overhear. "I am speaking in German, but you are reading it in English.""
b) If the POV character does not speak the language (like Phoenix), saying "Franziska switched to German and started yelling at Edgeworth" makes more sense - when I hear a foreign language, at least, I wouldn't be able to repeat it afterwards, because my brain does not process the words like it would English words, so I don't think it should stay in writing either.
There are practical purposes too: I wouldn't trust google translate to capture any nuance, and don't speak any other languages, so I'd want to find someone who knows the language to translate for me, which can be annoying and inconvenient for them. Also, readability. I don't think a reader should have to open up a new tab to understand your fic, is the point.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Warrior cats!! Way back in 2012 or so.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
The Catch-Up Game is still my favorite, at least partially because I got so much engagement while posting it that it was a lot of fun to go through comments on it. The narumitsu server talked about it a lot, and I'll forever be bitter that a rogue mod wiped those channels, because it's a really good feeling when something you write can inspire discussion like that. Also, I'm still satisfied with most aspects of that fic on its own - I reread a couple of chapters just the other day and was enjoying myself, which is always a win.

I've been thinking a lot about 'joy' in fiction lately.
This rumination began back when I described 'my novel' to my dad. Yeah, that novel. The novel we're all working on but that we're too scared or too busy or too hung up on outlining to actually write. The details of the novel are immaterial but it is something of a tragedy, and when I finished describing it my dad said, "Where's the joy in it? Where's the fun?"
At the time I was indignant, the point of the novel wasn't to be "fun", but it was styled as an adventure so it was a fair question. I didn't have an answer. I was consumed by the tragedy of that story and hadn't really thought about where the other pleasures of the genre, like fun or joy, would fit into the story. He and I disagree about a lot when it comes to fiction so I was tempted to write off the comment as him 'missing the point' but we also agree on many things and he was the one who introduced me to a love of reading at a young age with his nightly storytelling, so the critique stuck. And grew. And worried at me. I began to really, really think about where the joy and fun were in stories, even in tragedies.
This was several years ago and the world has become a grimmer place since then, or perhaps I've simply aged and become more aware of what's around me. The latter is more likely. Perhaps it is with age and awareness that I began to really see his point. As a teenager, craving the most extreme of experiences, I longed to read and write stories of the most aching anguish: the world is ending and my lover is dying in my arms, that sort of thing. It was about teasing at emotions too big and operatic for me to have experienced yet at that age. Pain and anguish and drama and tragedy are all wonderful seasonings, they allow us to live vicariously feelings outside what we've experienced. Fiction allows us to safely, on our own terms, and at our own pace, experience destruction, and self-destruction in ways we'd never want to permanently impact our real lives. With experience and lived pain, though, I believe one loses a bit of one's taste for the banality of endless pain and unmixed anguish, even in fiction.
There should be joy somewhere, perhaps not in every story, but as a maxim to myself for future creative endeavors, I believe this is important. It's hard to see the depths of a rich, inky darkness without a bit of light. It's hard to appreciate a character crying if we've never seen them laugh. Even as a writer, it can be hard to live in the lowest depths of a character's despair if there's no break from that emotion. It's hard for audiences, I think, to cheer for a character if they never see their happiness as well as their suffering.
On a more personal, fandom note it's one reason I'm reassessing some of my older WIPs in fandoms like Pacific Rim, where Newt/Hermann as a couple were a comedy ship for me at first but the events of Uprising made Newt's fate so gutwrenching, and in my own fics as well, that I feel I abandoned some WIPs just because I could no longer live in that place. Even if the story still calls to me to be finished, I feel I need to rediscover the joy there. For OFMD I feel it a personal mission that anything longer than a one-shot that I might write contain some glimmer of the humor of the source material, or else it feels like a disservice to the text. In my own novel, I’m mentally writing and re-writing the outline (maybe someday I'll write the actual book!) trying to find where the joy should go. It feels like the latest key to unlocking the story.
Joy has a place in stories. Not always a central place, but like Hope in Pandora's box of horrors, we need a glimmer of it, I think. Or at least I do, these days, to be fully engaged. It's where my head is at lately. It's what I hope to impart in whatever I do next.

📊+📝+🤔+👀+🌈+💭
A fine crop of questions for the emoji fanfic ask game! Thank you, my friend.
📊 Current number of WIPs
According to my spreadsheet and not including bunnies/concepts I haven’t actually put words on, I have
-10 works on my Stranger Things tab -9 on my Terror tab -3 on my Other tab
So a total of 22 things! The tab simply labelled “no :)”, however, contains 38 entries, some of which are just very backburnered and may emerge from the soup in the future, and others which will never again see the light of day.
📝 What is one growth area you have for your writing?
Aside from, y’know… writing things instead of what I’m currently doing, i.e. not writing things, I want to work on building plot arcs. Actually doing Stories, as opposed to “what if they kissed???”.
🤔 What is the hardest part of writing fic?
Translating the lightning bolt of getting an idea into actual words another person can read without losing what makes the idea fun and sexy.
👀 Do you have any WIPs that you would never let see the light of day? If yes, what are they about?
Mostly stuff gets relegated to the “no :)” tab when I get bored. Sometimes it’s because I’ve gotten bored of a fandom and don’t want to write for it anymore, or sometimes a concept just doesn’t work for me- there’s a little hoard of old Umbrella Academy WIPs on there that will never get finished, because a lot of them were very pre-transition Viktor focused (my major brainstorming partner at the time was a bit obsessed, and concepts focused on their blorbo garnered the best feedback, so) and don’t really work now he’s out as a man. Someday I might go back and harvest thoughts and ideas for use in different contexts.
🌈 What inspired you to write [insert fic here]?
I think for this one the question-asker is meant to have inserted the fic of their choice, but tbh there are only two real answers for most of my stuff: 1) I signed up to an event/exchange/fest and I wanted to deliver something my recipient would enjoy, or 2) the gods smote me with divine fire and a horny idea and I needed to make it someone else’s problem.
💭 What is a headcanon you have about your own work?
Everyone is bisexual until proven otherwise.

I saw you were looking how to get into the writeblr community.
And I was wondering, what are your current WIP’s or blorbos? Rambles welcome! (No seriously if you look at my blog I am nothing without rambling)
I don’t really know you, but I too want to get in the community more and know more people! Writeblr can be a struggle!
Hi, thank you for the ask and the kind words! I've been working on the answer for a while because tbh I have so many wips (ENFP issues with finishing stuff) that I had to choose those that do have a chance to be completed someday haha
So these are my more advanced wips:
Route LXVI. Status: Fixing plotholes, reducing the number of words, and editing in general. It's my only slice of life so far. I began writing it because I wanted to practice my English and use a real-life setting. I got hooked haha. It tells the story of Liv (Olivia), whose past has affected the way she approaches relationships. The story follows her character development throughout the events that take place around her. I actually wrote a synopsis, soo copy-paste:
Living with her sister in Orlando, with an exhausting job and trying to finish her studies, Olivia has no interest nor time for distracting stuff. But after her online friends suggest she should start taking her gaming channel more seriously, her life changes. Quite literally. Behind anonymity, Liv can have whichever life she wants, away from her most hidden secrets. The new hobby allows her to turn into LXVI, a joyous and bubbly girl with a perfect life. And maybe that's what Liv needs to feel happy again. But, she also has to deal with real life as well, including bad choices, faulty relationships, and the hot new problem called Damien. And, when real and virtual life mix, how many lies are too many lies? How much can you trust someone on the other side? And, what happens if you fall in love with a boy on the other coast of the country?
Lunática. Status: writing. Genre: fantasy. The idea is to have the story set in the current modern world but with magic creatures aka Beasts (werewolves, vampires, witches, and the like), and Hunters of those. It's a mash-up of some different blorbos I previously had and couldn't manage to finish, so I'm still working out how they fit together. In the basic storyline, the main character's family (code name: Lex) belongs to the Hunters faction, but she doesn't know anything about this. Until she saves a "wolf" and later finds a human with the same wound markings, so she adds two + two. As a bonus, she develops water powers that change according to the Moon phase... and she wears hearing aids, which sometimes pick up voices that shouldn't be there... I want to play around with synesthesia, portals, clans, and abilities for this one.
Ichor. Status: planning and world-building. Just like the previous wip, this is a mash-up of ideas, but now in a High Fantasy medieval-like setting where different realms come into play. In this world, the only creatures that are magical by nature are the inhabitants of the other realms (which in layman's terms are shapeshifter angels and demons). Humans have discovered that they can also cast spells if they use the blood of the first group, and this leads to the expected wars, refugees, famine, closed realms, and prejudices. The main character's story is still a mess of imagery I'm yet to put together, but the main idea is for her to be a shapeshifter affiliated with the human military who slowly discovers the plotting going on behind closed doors, as well as the truth about her past.
By the stars foretold. Status: writer's block. This is a High Fantasy set-up where I have 4 different narrators whose stories are alternatively told through the chapters. Each one belongs to a different background, culture, ideology, classical nature element... Their code names are Ruby, Zak, Silva, and Enzo. They intertwine and separate along the story while they all pursue their own goals, which slowly converge into the same one, in a sort of "tangled destinies" story, and I plan for at least one of them to become a 'villain'. There are dragons and other magic creatures, different countries in war, magic academies, royalty plots, tournaments, and bustling city life. The issue? I started writing with no plan in mind because I just wanted to enjoy the characters, and now I've reached a point where I should already know what the end game is. Besides, some ideas overlap with the previous wip! I still have a long way to go but at least I like where it is going.
So these are the most advanced, but I have more blorbos around there which are just a basic idea and some scenes, names or even endings: I have a wip about a magic (called Modulation) Academy where everyone has their own ability, and I have the beginning and the end but not the middle xd.
Anyways! Thanks for letting me ramble! Writeblr is indeed a struggle and this has immensely helped me start expressing myself (and I really like your blog, btw!).
See you around!

a couple days ago the lovely @nancywheeeler tagged me to do an ao3 wrapped here! i have had a Very busy weekend so i am only now getting to actually posting, but here are my belated responses:
Works published: 5 at the moment (with at least 2 more i’ll be putting up before the end of the year; possibly one or two more than that if i can get my act together and finish up the treat(s) i’ve been chipping away at in exchange to my main assignments in a couple holiday exchanges. busy end of the year for me!)
Words written: 41510 posted this year so far—more than i thought!
Hits: 3647 on my 2022 fics
Bookmarks: 118
Most popular by kudos: Do my friends think I’m dying? (or do I just need to go to sleep?), my singular to-date contribution to the ted lasso/colin hughes fandom and first foray into redditfic (which by the way was SUCH a blast to write that i think i’m going to have to do it again sometime soon. i ought to be more sorry about that than i am)
Most hits: look at the desperate man (omg rip to this fic... worked on it for a little bit this summer when i was feeling particularly angsty about Some Stuff i was dealing with. ran out of angst steam halfway through the final chapter because my life improved lol, got re-possessed by various locked tomb wips around nona release day, and now i kind of just don’t ever want to look at it anymore. maybe i’ll finish it someday?)
Longest: same as previous
Shortest: shovel talk (in f major) (most of which was hurriedly written in one day as a last-hurrah before nona came out to smash my entire life into bits!)
Most comments: inside problems which people have been VERY nice to me about agghhhh
Fic that made me cry: any discussion about the fics that did maximum emotional damage to me MUST mention syntheseas’ INCREDIBLY ambitious and well-written nothing but dark and sound, which i reread following its most recent update. if you’re a locked tomb fan and you’re not already keeping up with this fic... well you need to be. basically. shoutout also to @forjodssake’s feeling good was easy when he sang the blues, which i just read this thursday and have STILL not recovered from—AMAZING character work!!!
Fic that made me smile: so many! but my favorite comfort read for the last year and change has been @nancywheeeler‘s four weddings and no funeral. melts my heart every time! cannot recommend highly enough :)
Gifts: does this mean gifts given or gifts received? unclear. anyway in terms of gifts given—do my friends think i’m dying was my tribute to @nancywheeeler‘s excellent good old-fashioned lover boy, and i’ve got exchange fics i’ll be posting for a few people shortly. for gifts received, there’s whatever comes out of those exchanges!
Collaborations: none this year—or ever before, actually! BUT i am very very interested in the prospect… 👀 friends/mutuals/likeminded individuals active in any of my fandoms, if you’ve ever got an Idea you want to bang on about together or are particularly interested in fleshing out any of the half-formed Concepts i toss out into the void, hit me up and maybe we can make something happen! (well, hit me up whenever my dms are working again, anyway… the shadowban glitch which i’ve been living under for going on a MONTH now is a curse upon this earth)
Events taken part in: yuletide 2022, and the 2022 locked tomb holiday exchange!
thanks again em for the tag! in turn i will tag @aberfaeth, @rnanqo, @palamedes-sextus, and anyone else who’s interested! (and who actually sees this—unsure if any of you will get a notification when i post this, due to the aforementioned shadowban :/)

Sorry if this comes off as nosy, but I’m always curious to hear about people’s writing processes! Do you usually build up a chapter buffer as you write or do you write and post most of the time?
Thanks for the question, it's not nosy at all.
It depends! If I have a specific plot in mind or some specific place in the narrative I want to get to I do tend to build up a chapter buffer as I write. I'm not disciplined enough to write a whole long fic without starting to post before I'm finished -- someday it would be good to do that and do proper drafts and edits. I'm sure I'd develop more as a writer that way.
But with longer fics (say anything longer than 2 or 3 chapters) I never really know how i'm going to get to where I'm going. I don't plot things out in any detail most of the time. However I often know some character point I want to reveal or an end goal I'm shooting to cover, and since I'm mostly a seat of your pants writer I try to give myself some ability to change or adjust things if needed.
That said I don't think I've ever changed anything major, so maybe it's just nerves. With this series it's probably 80% nerves, 20% desire to be able to change anything that needs changing. Hedging my bets I guess.
With this current WIP I've known the back story for a long time (I've known the overall backstory of the whole series since near the beginning) and I'm still uncertain how much of everything I'm going to reveal and how. There are layers to juggle. The fic has the surface story or plot -- the events that allow the characters to interact -- then it has the immediate backstory -- what happened while Alfie was on holiday -- then it has the deeper backstory to the whole series, which has trickled out here and there.
I don't expect that deeper backstory to ever be tied up in a neat knot (sorry) but it is present and it does drive the characterization and world building behind the scenes. Maybe it will eventually work its way to the surface more overtly.

🚧 this is not finished and there will be adjustments! 🚧 please do not reblog this post! 🚧
Hi, I'm Red. Welcome to my writing blog. I use he/him, they/them, ne/nem, and fuck/fucker pronouns, and this is a sideblog. I follow and interact from @bitegore. I'm bi, trans, aro, polyam and above all Queer.
I write primarily Transformers fanfiction and, rarely, original fiction as well. I like dragons and I like robots, and I will put one or the other (or sometimes both!) into everything I do. I consider myself to be a horror writer, and I typically try to lean in toward whatever shitty implications I can come up with rather than lean out.
I have a particular love of in-universe documents and pastiche of things like current event news articles and sociological papers. I also love gore, death, horrific power dynamics, and bad sex that hurts everyone involved. I love when characters do bad things to one another and I want them to be awful.
I fully intend for everyone reading my stories to get some sort of rubberneck-style voyeuristic fascination out of everything I write. My smut is bad and I hope it makes you want to peel your skin off. My humor is pitch black and I will rhyme lying with dying and try to make you laugh about it. I do my best never to shy away from the edge and I want you to stare down at the pitch-black hole I've dropped my characters into and acknowledge the abject depths of their suffering and then be forced to admit that actually that's kind of funny anyway.
But i promise i'm chill as, like, a person and I want to give you the tools to read or not read that at your leisure and all that.
Current Ongoing Wips:
Transmissions from Cybertron - a letter-based epistolary fic about a transformer who goes on a weird mission and gets his brain fried super duper hard by it. Currently in its last few stages, I think, I just have to get it DONE.
Fortress Maximus v. Big Sword Studios - a pastiche of the ongoing "censorship is good/censorship is bad" debate from the beginning of modern media's existence set on Cybertron and in regards to deliberately provocative politically-charged pornography about (in-universe) war crimes. About half done. I have to kick it into high gear and I don't feeeeelllll like it i want to write stupid shenanigans instead.
Dedication - my take on the Tarn and Pharma Have A Child thing, wherein everything is bad, Pharma is currently dead, and the kid has never had a single positive adult in his life thus far. and also hasn't got a name yet. i just need to finish what i have written so i can get to what i want to write. this one also only needs a couple more chapters and then it should be done. Also Transformers fanfiction.
"You really wanna know where I'm from?"  - my beloved transformers oc Bait lies about her background to a bunch of people for fun and profit. A personal project and on the back burner.
some speedy pilot sharpshooter, or something - same beloved transformers oc takes a hit out on one of my friend's favorites and gives him a complex via torture, but I lost the other guy's voice and so I haven't gotten back to it yet.
laser core - Vortex (a transformer) wants to kill someone by fucking their battery until they die so bad he blows his dick up like fifteen times. Stuck in progress because I don;'t know enough engineering to make it work.
Crystal Clear - A Star Wars/Transformers crossover where Megatron and Optimus Prime are ancient jedi and Sith dug up out of the ground. I have no idea wher I was going with this but I want to get back to it someday.
Closerverse Main Story - Original fiction; a two part story that starts with a fucked up child soldier/member of a military cult discovering that non-human people (this is one of those high fantasy worlds with like shapeshifters and shit who are very much people) are still people and killing them is bad. and then falling in love, or at least good friends, with a dragon shapeshifter who also rather likes her. and THEN we take a hard swerve into grimdark territory and do bad things to our beloved dragon shapeshifter and hit him with a curse and do bad things to our ex-child soldier and THEN they go ahead and burn down the old world order and build a kinder one in its ashes. This one needs a prety comprehensive re-plotting but the bones are good; but also there's some awkward eeehhhh shit about what is essentially me processing my hashtag jewish-in-2022 feelings through making shapeshifting lizards be an oppressed culture and people that I don't want to take out because I want to be a shapeshifting lizard so bad i could cry but also the antisemites. they do that too. im not with them
no other serious origfic stories at this time smh
Housekeeping:
Tags in Use: #tag game - tag games (where I'm tagged/pinged by username) #ask game - ask games (asks sent in that I respond to) #wip thread - a long "thead" where i post snippets from one particular wip, usually short fanfics I intend to wrap and post within that week #tf writing - tag to specify Transformers writing #cls writing - tag to specify Closerverse-universe writing (changed 3/25/22) #ff writing - tag to specify other (non-Transformers) fanfiction #origfic writing - tag to specify other (non-Closerverse) original writing #others' writing - tag to specify that someone else wrote this and i just think it's cool #advice - advice #aesthetic - pretty pictures, usually just to fill up space #cn: sexual violence - "content note: sexual violence" - umbrella category for rape, noncon and dubcon #cn: gore - "content note: gore" - for body horror and "extreme" violence #cn: self-harm - "content note: self-harm" - for written descriptions of self-harm, including slightly less traditional ones like starving oneself #cn: death - "content note: death" - for stories dealing in large part with death. Note: not ones where it's incidental or background- stories where major charcters die or deal with grief.
I don't have a taglist for any wips because I have very few serious ongoing projects. If you'd like to be tagged for discussion and workshopping of Transformers fics, or for original works, please let me know which. Transformers taglist: - General TF taglist: - - Transmissions from Cybertron: - - Dedication: - - Crystal Clear: - - General Bait (OC) fic: - Origfic taglist: - General Closerverse Origfic: - - Closerverse Main Story: - - General Non-CV Origfic: -

Note
2, 15 & 17 for the ao3 wrapped? :)
Absolutely!
2. How many works did you publish this year?
Only 20, it was a really slow year for me with a very long unplanned break.
But I am going to have at least one more done before the end of the year, hopefully 2!
15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you?
So, so many.
@justaswampdemon and I were actually talking about this last night as we went through out respective wip folders. I have so many things started - several with a couple thousand words written - and someday I would like to finish all of them. But a quick preview of some notable ones:
breakup era AU where TK cuts ties with everyone and skips town
honeymoon goes terribly wrong (co-written with @justaswampdemon)
hostage situation where TK and Carlos go in because paramedic is a good disguise for a cop
the next two chapters of my Enzo fic
an MCD fic
an Andrea pov AU of early season 3
A Grace and Carlos story
A Grace and Carlos (and TK and Judd) high school reunion fic
the rest of my bthb card (including a very tasty ice storm AU)
Barista!Carlos
and so many more
17. Your favorite character to write this year?
In an absolutely strange turn of events no one saw coming, Owen.
Yes I have mixed feelings about his character but overall I do enjoy him and my main complaint is that the writers choose boring and stupid storylines for him. The man has so much trauma and a heap of issues that make character studies really fun to write. I do not know why that is specifically what my brain chose to focus on this year, but I'm not too upset about it.
Honorable mention to Gwyn and TK though, and next year I need to get back into writing Marjan. I miss writing about her.

AO3 Wrapped for 2023!
Tumblr media
I got tagged by @purlturtle for this, so thank you! :D Let's see how I did on fics in 2023.
Overall Stats:
Works Published: 2 - because a Pushing Daisies snippet snuck in there lol
Word Count: 92,498
Kudos: 475
Hits: 14,729
Bookmarks: 161 (99 public and it's killing me ahaha I just want a nice round number again D:)
Subscriptions: 285
(All of those stats are heavily, heavily skewed towards one fic over the other as you'll see below :P)
Individual Stats:
Most Popular by Kudos: Can We Keep Her, my Lucifer S3 time travelling toddler rewrite at 471 kudos. (Out of my 475 total for the year LMAO. I told you the stats are skewed!)
Most hits: Can We Keep Her (Lucifer) again with 14,688 hits. Listen I really only wrote one fic this year. The Pushing Daisies one barely counts.
Longest: Can We Keep Her (Lucifer) at 92,307 words published as of today and still growing. Fun fact: This is also my longest fic ever published! So it would've won this category in any year.
Shortest: Three Lifetimes (Pushing Daisies) at 191 words. I did have other one shot ideas after my rewatch but I had to save my energy for the Lucifer WIP.
Most Comments: SHOCKINGLY (not), it's Can We Keep Her (Lucifer) with 186 comment threads/415 total comments. My greatest wish when this fic is all said and done is to hit 1000 total comments because I'll never be able to hit that in any other fandom I could ever be in for the rest of my life. And if it does turn out to be 30 chapters long (or more!), then I'm actually on pace to achieve it :')
(And this is where I go more into fic recs than talking about my own fics, because I did not write (or read tbh) enough to have proper answers for this section.)
Fics that made me cry:
Writing: The [redacted] scene for Can We Keep Her that I've played a million times in my head but haven't actually written yet cause I'm only halfway through the story. Maybe also the time travel reveal scene which gets posted in January, but that's lived in my head for so long, I can no longer tell what feelings it evokes.
Reading: never have I ever by jrrmint (Lucifer). S4 Chloe/Lucifer smut. It doesn't make me cry, but it does make me ache because it's Season 4, aka the angstiest season, and this fic makes it even messier than canon was which is just beautiful in the 'I have a history of loving soap operas' way. :D :D It also taught me cheating is a trope I will eat up with a goddamn spoon for this ship. Like HOLY SHIT! Eve, I love you, babe, but I need more Chloe/Lucifer S4 cheating fic pronto! O_O
(NOT S3 cheating fic. It does not work as well, because the Chloe/Pierce relationship was already a stupid decision -- by both the writers and the character -- so let's not add even more stupid decisions on top of it. However, everybody's already hitting rock bottom in S4 (and at different times too!) so that's why the cheating trope works so deliciously there.)
Fics that made me smile:
Writing: The opening scene to chapter 7 in Can We Keep Her still makes me laugh so much. Rory's manipulative little "My heart hurts :(" ploy absolutely kills me, plus all the other 'Day 2 of a baby angel' chaos that's happening. Also all of chapter 9 with the Deckerstar family domestics of putting Trixie and Rory to bed. A++ me. Makes me grin everytime.
Reading: If He's a Tramp (He's a Good One) by maybemalapert (laconicsims) -- Lucifer joins Chloe and Trixie on a trip to Disneyland, set (and written) in early S2. I'm absolutely loving reading the Lucifer fics in chronological order/reverse page order on AO3 since I came to the show after the entire thing aired. And this little one shot was wonderful <3
Group Activities:
Gifts: No gifts given or received this year.
Collaborations: I did do something here, though! I was a beta reader in the Bering and Wells Big Bang event. :) I helped with Dawn of the Dragonborn: Heart of a Hero, Heart of a Predator, Heart of Dovahkiin which was written by Rinari7. Not finished yet, but hopefully someday! Because the outline was really detailed and incredible. So, so, so fun AU even if you know very little about Skyrim (like me)!
Events: Also the Bering and Wells Big Bang. I still absolutely could never be a writer for such an event because I get too stressed and freeze whenever I try. But I really enjoyed being a beta reader! Less pressure lol
