If something happened to beloved, do you think Terry could eventually move on and get with someone else even if it took years? Do you think it's possible for Terry to ever have a second beloved if anything ever happened to his first love?
---
He would continue dating after a while, sure, because that's what men of his stature do --- they have arm candy. Situationships and relationships. No different from buying a new assessory that goes well with one's freshly tailored suit, depending of what manner of airs he's hellbent on giving off today. No different from getting a new car or a coveted art-piece for his parlour. He'd have an active sexual life, because it gives him pleasure when he requires it and because it is sport --- an extension of his power. No different from physical exercise and upkeep. Terry will seduce people, act as their financier, discard and ghost those that no longer serve his whims and rinse and repeat all over again between periods of self-insolation, yes. He'd have his bedfellows, arrangements and conquests. Terry might even become what is considered a desirable perpetual Playboy bachelor around The Valley (and further) after a long and reclusive period of mourning where nobody has seen or heard of him maybe in years, everyone assuming he's one of those workaholics fully dedicated to their professional lives in the concorporate arena, charity, entrepreneurship, expansion and moneymaking schemes, never realizing just how deep this issue goes, but in the midst of all of that I don't think another beloved would ever happen for him.
No.
Terry Silver is one of those singularly driven people that form attachments for life. Friendships for life, connections for life, gratitude for life, revenge for life, with an near unending devotion that can fester into pathological fixation. Heck, enemies and grudges for life --- he'd form those too. He has never gotten over a single thing that happened to him, ever, because Terry's in all the way or he isn't in at all, and when he falls, he falls once.
Or he doesn't at all.
Either or.
Everything after that is filler and white noise.
If asked why he never gotten married well into his old age, he might give some clever one-liner prepared as a tactical answer to cover up just how fundamentally touchy and delicate that topic is for him in actuality, turning his own pain and the unimaginable extent of it into a socially accepted quip others might find rather charming and hiding his true feelings in the process (What a good sense of humor Terry Silver has, no?) and that's Terry on a good day. On a bad one, he might just twist his jaw and fidget uncomfortably, forget to blink and not before long, people realize that asking Mr. Silver that question is uncomfortable and a bit of a taboo that serves as a definite mood killer during every gathering and high-event party he might be hosting. Last thing everyone wants is to displease their elegant and obscenely wealthy host with a taxing comment.
It is a no-go subject, that is, if anyone is astute enough to actually read Terry.
See through his masks.
Even those he dates know that much; don't ask.
Then again, the life sized commissioned oil painting, along with a barrage of other preserved personal belongings, that are rumored to be safely locked away in the storage basement of one of his mansions belonging to a certain special someone that's been down there god knows how long don't help this conclusion at all. Nobody has seen it, admittedly --- nobody that can be brought forth to confirm the story without fearing for their life or a hefty lawsuit, but --- it is in equal measure said that Mr. Silver had a prepared a very private and sprawling burial plot adjoined to someone else and that he's had it there since the 80's --- just waiting, in all its ornate and luxurious glory. It is said to be next to someone he is infinitely fond of to this day. A loved one. Nobody really knows who it is for certain. Cobra Kai is said to never die, but it appears love never dies either.
It is one of those urban legends LA thrives on.
One of the most powerful men in The Valley loves someone with all his soul.

IMPORTANCE OF MENTAL HEALTH FOR CHILDREN
“Is mental health awareness among children important?”. The answer to this should definitely be nothing but a yes! Mental health includes our entire being — our emotional, social, and psychological self. It affects what we sense, how we feel, how and what we think, and eventually leads to how we behave. The foundation of every adult is laid in their childhood, so it is imperative that the foundation of sound mental health is also laid in the formative years. Every stage of human life and mental health are connected — from infancy to childhood, to adolescence, to adulthood, and finally to old age. Neither of the stages is more important or less important.
Children should be made aware that just like our physical health, we have mental health. We give importance to food and exercise to develop physically, similarly, we must understand the importance of mental health awareness. Giving priority to our thoughts and feelings can help us develop the power to face all the challenges that life would throw at us. An honest conversation with the children will be best when we say, all who have a body have to think of their physical health and all who have a brain have to think of mental health. Strategies to have healthier and happier children should be our paramount priority.
Sound mental health is fundamental for a child’s success in life — be it in school or with companions. When we install such a growth mindset in ourselves and our children, there will be no stigma attached to mental health. Shame should never block the path to take help.
Everyone (including children) can be nervous and scared sometimes. Encouragement should be given to recognize thoughts and feelings and talk about them. No one needs to worry alone and it’s OKAY to ask for help; this should be the clear message conveyed to children.
Moods and thoughts change constantly, so offering empathy and being understanding gives confidence to the child, rather than being judgmental and offering solutions. Unconditional love and no rationing in awarding praise whenever the child does something good is highly recommended. A listening ear is a good beginning and giving instructions can follow later. Substituting nagging and yelling with disciplining with respect is something I endorse. The ultimate aim should be, “I want my child to be happy”, so their strengths and weaknesses, both should be accepted. Happiness is the main component of mental health. Everyone is born a happy child; we lose it somewhere on the way while growing up. Growing up at any age is not so easy and becomes questionable when we try to keep pace with others around us and others’ expectations of us. Life does not come with an instruction booklet and each one has to face the music they listen to. Empower the children to have faith in themselves and their abilities and they shall be able to move mountains and live a healthy, happy life.
How Schools can help enhance the mental health of their students-
Many schools are already integrating mental health promotion and planning into their current curriculum and activities. However, this may be happening in an Adhoc or incidental manner. Environments that promote mental health are safe, inclusive, and empowering. Schools can integrate mental health into their current activities by:
• acknowledging integrated health promotion (including mental health promotion) as an area of priority in strategic planning processes • discussing mental health promotion as part of school well-being team meetings and exploring possibilities for cross-curricular approaches to integrated mental health teaching and learning • developing lesson plans and delivering curriculum in a way that links mental health to other health activities. This might include: — discussing how physical activity and healthy eating affect mental health — outlining the connection between mental illness and drug use, outlining the connection between mental illness and substance use — discussing the link between body image and mental health • exploring mental health in the context of promoting positive and respectful relationships. This may include exploring the negative effects on the mental health of bullying and cyberbullying. Subjects such as Drama and English can allow students to act, watch, read or write about mental health issues • promoting positive mental health through inclusive group sporting activities encourages teamwork, new relationships, physical activity, etc.
Having good mental health is key to the healthy development and well-being of every child. Kids need good mental health — not only to be able to deal with challenges and adapt to change, but so they can feel good about themselves, build healthy relationships with others and enjoy life. A child’s mental health can be influenced by many things, like family circumstances, school life, and life events. While children can experience mental health issues at any age, they are most at risk between the ages of 12 and 16 years. Because these are the tender years of age.
Hence, learning to take proper care of the younger ones, and identifying problems should be addressed as taking care of mental health is as important as taking care of physical health. It is similar to the fact that whenever we face any difficulty regarding our physical health, we immediately go to the doctor and get ourselves treated but why not do the same when there is some problem with our mental health as well? That’s the stigma and taboo we need to break into and take care of everyone who is in need of help, in fighting mental health issues and raise awareness in society regarding the importance of mental health, especially for the younger ones.

💭 Who is "that girl"? 💕
There are no set rules to what "that girl"'s life includes and you'd probably get the same amount of different definitions as people you asked. So this post doesn't not claim to be the one "right" definition, it's just my personal interpretation what this lifestyle entails.
1. Working out
That girl works out regularly, but not (or at least not primarily) for aesthetic purposes but rather for her mental health, to feel confident, get stronger, clear her head etc. She either goes to the gym or does workouts at home and/or goes running/swimming etc.
2. Living a generally active life
That girl's lifestyle is defined by being active and fit. She goes on walks, exercises, does yoga, prefers biking and walking over taking her car and otherwise keeps her body moving.
3. Eating a healthy diet
Another way in which that girl looks after her body is by watching her diet and eating healthy. She focuses on whole foods and prefers home cooked meals over fast food. All the while she's still balancing her diet and listening to what her body wants. She knows that only eating healthy is hardly realistic and therefore aims for a 80/20 diet.
4. Taking care of your physical health
That girl knows to take care of her body. She goes to all her check-up appointments and sees her doctor when she's concerned about a health issue. She listens to her body and what it needs, stays hydrated and over all stays on top of her physical health.
5. Skincare
That girl has a skincare routine which she does regularly. Every morning and night she takes care of her skin according to her skin type. In regular intervals she treats herself to a face mask, massages and facials. She always wears sunscreen, despite the season and weather and doesn't go to bed with her makeup still on.
6. Self care (Mind, body, soul concept)
That girl practices daily self care. She does something for her mind, her body and her soul every day. This may include meditation, yoga, spa days, journaling or other things of a similar nature.
7. Journaling
That girl has a journal in which she writes every day. Both a daily journaling routine and prompted journaling sessions are part of her day to day life. To her, journaling isn't a chore but rather something she actually enjoys and benefits from.
8. Having routines
For the mornings, evenings and weekends that girl has routines and habits to improve her focus, energy, sleep quality etc.. These routines she adapts to what she needs and what works best for her.
9. Having a positive mindset
That girl always thinks positively. She's kind to others as well as herself and always sees the best in everyone. She focuses on herself while simultaneously being kind to the people around her. She forgives herself for mistakes she makes and sees them as an opportunity to do better.
10. Being and staying curious
That girl is educated, open-minded and looking to learn as much as she can. This includes but is not limited to languages, literature, science, history, finance, poetry, and art.
11. Mindset
Getting back to the topic of mindset and attitude, that girl is hard working and willing to wait for the results she desires. A key to this is a concept called delayed gratification, which at its core means accepting an uncomfortable situation in favour of a bigger reward later on (i.e. working out in order to feel good afterwards, studying long hours in order to gain knowledge etc.). Furthermore she had an abundance mindset rather than being jealous and fearful. Examples of this are replacing "They got those results i desire sooner than me, now I will never be able to achieve them" with "If they did it, so will I when it is my time for it" etc.
12. Productivity
That girl knows to avoid procrastination. She plans her studying and working sessions and completes them without distractions. She writes her notes in a way that makes sense for her and utilises study and planning methods in an effective manner.
13. Tidyness and planning
That girl's space is always tidy and neat. She takes time to clean up every day and thereby never has a big mess. Her closet, drawers etc. are sorted in an effective way and are regularly declutteded. Furthermore she plans her days, weeks and months ahead and always knows what's coming up and how she needs to prepare for it.
14. Balance (!!!)
Finally, that girl knows the key to everything in life is balance. Productivity needs rest, giving in to the occasional cravings is more than okay, working out needs recovery and so forth.
So this was my interpretation of what kind of person "that girl" is. Hopefully you could take away something from this post.
Have fun on your journey!
Love, M

H E A D C A N O N S
benjamin was born as the only child to regina and david morgan, a museum curator and ceo respectively in manhattan.
benjamin was raised in close proximity to his cousin madeleine spencer, to the extent where benjamin considers maddie to be more like a sibling to him than a cousin. this came from both of their parents busy schedules and similar lifestyles which led him to be brought up in this manner.
benjamin would like to think that his parents were happily married, but it was only as he got older that he realised the family set up that he had grown up with as a child wasn’t the same as everyone else’s. nevertheless, he figured that it worked for them as it was, and he still considers himself to have had a good childhood.
spending as much time in the spencer household as he did, benjamin sparked a genuine interest in medicine, looking up to his uncle, madeleine’s father, as a role model and idol for his future career in medicine.
benjamin was athletic in school, actively taking part in boxing and baseball. he hoped from early on in high school that he would be able to get into a good school on a baseball scholarship so he wouldn’t need to focus as hard on his studies, but a torn rotator cuff in his sophomore year quickly killed that dream, and he came to the quick conclusion that he had to get his head in the books.
as much as he would hate to admit it, he knew that his parents pulled a few strings when it came to his offers for college, but the decision ultimately came down to him. during this time he had watched madeleine begin to spiral out of control, the concern for his cousin and arguably best friend only growing with each day that passed.
it was during this time that benjamin turned down the offer from harvard that his father had swindled for him, choosing instead to stay closer to the city in order to be nearby while madeleine got the help she had promised her parents she would get.
he was thankful for this decision as the realisation that she hadn’t been getting help came about following amelia shepherd’s overdose. while madeleine was in rehab, benjamin made a point of visiting her as much as he could, skipping classes if he needed to to make sure that she felt supported. she was basically his kid sister after all.
as madeleine got clean, benjamin took the mcats, scoring high enough to be accepted into john’s hopkins off his own back this time. as madeleine was seemingly doing well, benjamin decided to move that little bit further out, knowing he would be close enough if she needed him to return.
it was during this time that the two established their bi-weekly phone calls, no excuses allowed, his way of keeping an eye on her completely.
benjamin moved that little bit further for his residency to mayo, just as madeleine moved to switzerland for her masters. it made sense, he was happy for her and continued to adjust his schedule to make sure their phone calls went ahead as they needed to, suiting her schedule over his.he would often stay awake until the early hours of the morning just to speak to her.
his residency was fairly smooth sailing, despite a period of switching between services as he was indecisive about what specialty he was going to go into. he had always had his heart set on cardio like his uncle, but it only took one case with the ent attending to have him hooked.
as he came to the end of his fellowship, he debated the idea of having a second specialty (he’s a bit of a show off like that), but a nagging feeling inside of him told him something more important was coming.
his calls with madeleine weren’t like they used to be, years of regularity and consistency seemed to be falling apart, with nothing that he could do from where he was. he wanted to believe that this was part of the recovery, that she didn’t need him the way she used to, but he couldn’t be certain.
the night of amelia’s intervention, benjamin received a frantic phone call from madeleine and he knew then that things were not good. whether she was high or just drunk he couldn’t have been certain at first, it was only as she spoke about everybody leaving her the he snapped into action. she’d fallen off the wagon, and he’d be damned if he was going to stand by and let it happen.
benjamin packed a bag and hopped on the first plane to seattle, ready to hold an intervention of his own if he needs to. as far as he is concerned he’s here for maddie and nothing else.

turned thirty five cos that’s how birthdays work !!
after maddie decided to get clean, benjamin went with her to new york to ensure she fully embarked on her recovery. as much as seattle had only meant to have been a means to an end for benjamin, he found himself wanting to return.
he’s been keeping a low profile at the hospital, but is just kinda keeping things ticking over. he’s still ben.

💜New Beginning💜
Tumblr media
💜New Beginning💜
Levi paced as the screams continued in the other room. He felt helpless. A seasoned soldier, stronger than anyone and he was powerless to help. His fate was left in the hands of Hanji’s medical team and Gods he wasn’t quite sure he believed in.
He paused during one particularly horrid cry of agony. A cold sweat was starting to form on his brow, shudder running down his spine. Y/N was in so much pain. He could feel her struggle out in the corridor. He clenched his fists against the overwhelming urge to rush in that room. A voice startled him from his inner turmoil.
“Captain?” He turned to look at Eren. “Y/N will be okay. She’s tough.” The boy looked nervously at the door as particularly loud curse blared out. Y/N was using language that shocked all but Levi in her pain.
“She better be.” The alternative wasn’t an option. Looking around, he saw the faces of the people they spent the most time with, waiting hopefully. He appreciated his squad being here with him more than he could express. The fact that his subordinates were there was probably the only thing keeping Levi on his feet at that moment. He sighed, thinking back over the events that had put him in this position.
~~~~~Flashback
Levi couldn’t pinpoint the exact moment he had accepted this as inevitable. As he impatiently ripped at the buckles to his harness, he realized it had been years since he had felt this out of control.
Y/N pulled his head down for another hot open mouthed kiss as she writhed underneath him, perched on his bed. She was already bare to her undergarments as she unbuttoned his shirt. Slipping her hands underneath the soft fabric to feel the warm skin beneath it.
What had started out as a lecture on safety after a particularly foolish stunt Y/N had pulled, had turned into a tangled mess of limbs and desire. Levi finally managed unbuckle the straps and could have shouted with joy when he managed to pull his pants down. Free himself from the restrictive material, he hurriedly slid her panties down and threw them over his shoulder in his haste.
Her fingernails dig into his skin as they come together. Rushed and needy, they pull at each other as they take what they craved. The feeling of them fused together, the tight grip her body had on his, overwhelmed him. Barely holding on to make sure she had found her pleasure, he let go, riding a wave of bliss as he closed his eyes.
~~~~~
He had purposefully shied away from talking to her. Ashamed of giving in to his baser desires and even more so for wanting to again, he ignored it. Pushed their encounter aside as they dealt with the life and death issues of being a Scout. It wasn’t too hard to do, considering they were being hunted at the time.
She had seemed to understand and acted like that night never happened, treating him no differently than she had before. While he appreciated her not chasing after him like a love sick puppy, in the dark of the night he feared that maybe he had disappointed her. That she had found it or him lacking. The time he had finally found the balls to do something like talk about feelings, Y/N was tipsy after Historia’s coronation. So he walked away and shoved everything he was going to say into a corner of his heart.
~~~~~
The day she told him, he was in utter shock. And in complete asshole fashion, he reacted badly.
“Repeat that, Y/N?” His grey eyes narrowed on hers, standing before her, disbelieving.
“I’m pregnant.”
All coherent thoughts ceased and he spit out the worst thing he could have said in that moment.
“You think it’s mine?” His head jerked to the side from the force of her hand. His eyes widened on her retreating figure. The door to his office slammed behind her.
He went and sat behind his desk, her words recycling in his head. The look of hurt and anger that flashed across her face as she drew her hand back. The stiffness in her spine as she marched out of the room. She hadn’t asked him for anything. She hadn’t screamed or cried or begged him to believe her, she had slapped him.
He put his hand to his cheek. The welts from her fingers were still raised on his pale skin. She had belted him good, but he knew he deserved it. Y/N wasn’t the type to sleep around, he spent enough time with her to know that their one night together was the first time in years for either one of them. His sigh was heavy with remorse.
~~~~~
For weeks, Y/N ignored him. Except for when he gave her an order, she pretended he didn’t exist. The friendly, yet respectful manner she usually interacted with him was gone. He hadn’t understood just how much he had enjoyed what they had, until his ass was placed firmly back into the superior category. Unwilling to use his rank to force her to talk to him about an obviously private issue, his frustration mounted as she went to another room after he entered.
He finally went to her quarters and knocked. He wasn’t going to leave until he had at least apologized. Levi had to stick his foot in the door when she realized it was him to keep her from shutting him out. He pushed the door closed after entering, watching again as she walked away from him.
When she had put some distance between them, she turned around and assumed an at ease position, using a vacant stare as she looked over his head slightly. “Yes, Captain?”
“Y/N, please, it’s Levi right now.” He took in her causal appearance. The short sleeping shorts showcased her toned legs and her tight tank top clung to her unbound breasts. He willed his body to behave as he looked at the future mother of his child.
“No thank you, Captain. Now, what is it you would like? I’m off duty at the moment, so......” He ignored the implied suggestion that he leave. He stepped closer to her, kept advancing until she was backed against the edge of her bed. When he reached out to touch her shoulder, she pulled away.
“Y/N, I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking.” Her stance relaxed slightly at his muttered apology. She had softened her ‘Don’t fucking touch me’ look, and Levi used it to his advantage, sitting on her bed and pulling her down beside him.
He had spent long minutes awkwardly explaining himself. Apologizing in low tones. He felt slightly better about things when she had finally looked him in the eyes as he asked about her plans for the pregnancy. The fact that she felt the same way about terminating it, relieved him.
It had pissed him off when she suggested he didn’t have to be involved. He had never known his father, believing at one point that it was his maternal uncle after his mother had passed away. He would not do that to this child, his child. The anger at her suggestion must have been written on his face, because she had quickly amended it to not having to be involved with her. He hadn’t wanted that either.
~~~~~
It seemed a bit unusual to begin dating someone when you were expecting a child with them. But that was exactly what they had decided to do. Never having been in a relationship, it had been a sharp learning curve for Levi. He found that he enjoyed the give and take of a being with another person, letting down those walls built over the years and heartache. It wasn’t easy, it was perhaps the toughest thing he would ever have to do, but he worked at it.
Ironic that he could face overwhelming odds and charge to what he believed to be his death, but sharing his tightly guarded emotions put him into a panic. Y/N understood that. She had been around him long enough to know when he just needed to be left alone and when he needed her to push through the obstacles.
Quicker than he would have ever imagined, the term love kept popping up in his head. Dismissed for longer than it probably should have been, the words came naturally the first time he had felt the little life inside the round swell of her belly kick against his hand. She tried to brush aside the comment, thinking it was directed to the ever growing child, but he had pressed his lips against hers and kept his eyes focused on hers as he repeated the words.
Horrified when tears came to her eyes, the sensation was quickly replaced with joy when she repeated the words back to him and threw her arms around him.
~~~~~
The day she moved into his quarters, he had realized just how well this woman knew him. She had meticulously scrubbed everything that was brought into their now shared rooms. Taking care to keep the area tidy, Y/N respected his own personal items as she integrated hers to the space. The resulting atmosphere was homey, and Levi couldn’t deny he liked the sight of her possessions next to his.
During the day, they still adhered to the Captain/subordinate relationship they had maintained for years. While physically unable to keep to the rigorous training regiment that most Scouts had, Y/N was still an active member of the military. Levi had personally created a routine that would keep his child safe while allowing the exercise Y/N needed to recover quickly. Mostly, Y/N had been confined to desk duty, filing and filling out the ever present river of paperwork that the Survey Corps seemed to operate on.
Nights were the best. Their duties had been left outside their quarters, symbolic, but significant. They were free to just be Levi and Y/N for awhile. He found he enjoyed getting to discover her own quirks, seeing a side of her that no one else did. Sleeping beside her, or trying to, he listened to her breathing as her peaceful expressions calmed his nightmares. The nights she slept on his chest were his favorite. Her swollen belly resting on his hips, the baby periodically making their presence known, she curled up in the crook of his arm. Her hand thrown around his waist and her leg intertwined with his. Those were the nights his sleep was dreamless as he held his family close.
~~~~~Present Time
The room beyond the door had grown quiet for a long moment. Levi felt his heart falling to his feet. ‘No, God no, you can’t take this from me.’ Was all he could chant in his mind as he worried that the glimmer of happiness he had experienced had just been snuffed out.
A high pitched shrill cry floated out to the hallway. Healthy lungs of an angry child, mad at being brought into the world they now lived in. Levi’s shoulders slumped in relief. The sounds of activity had resumed, but he heard Y/N’s voice. Fighting to keep his composure, he stood still as the kids of his squad celebrated around him.
The door opened minutes later and Hanji stood in it, gowned and gloved. Her lone eye wide and excited as she yelled out “Come on, Levi!”
Rushing into the room, he stopped by the bed. Y/N was sitting up, holding an impossibly tiny bundle of blankets. Tearing her adoring gaze from her arms, she looked up at Levi, tears and love shining in her bright eyes. “It’s a boy, Levi. We have a son.”
He looked down at the inky black hair that covered his son’s head. Tiny features that looked a bit mashed. He supposed that was natural, considering he had just pushed his way into the world, fighting to be free of his mother’s petite frame. The baby’s eyes were closed, but he wondered if he would have his silver eyes, or his mother’s eye color.
He couldn’t look away from the sight of Y/N holding their child. It was beautiful, something to be stored in his memory to keep safe. He leaned over and kissed her head, whispering “Thank you.” As he cautiously reached a hand out to touch the small human he had helped create.
His hand seemed impossibly large against his son. Fear gripped him for a moment, his strength and roughness might hurt him. Y/N sensed his doubt, and placed her hand on his.
“You won’t hurt him, you would never hurt him. Let me show you how to hold him.”
Sitting beside her, Levi studied her movements intently as she carefully transitioned his son into his arms. She sat back and looked at the pair, her eyes welling up again as the love she felt in that moment overwhelmed her. The strongest man she knew was cradling their child with the upmost care, holding him as if he were made from spun sugar. The all encompassing love etched on his face in that moment was breathtaking as he traced a finger around the baby’s face.
“Have you decided?” Her question brought his eyes back up to look at her tired yet stunningly beautiful face. She was giving him the privilege of naming their son. He had known what he wanted, and she had seemed perfectly happy with any of his choices when they had discussed them.
“Farlan Erwin Ackerman.” He announced looking down at the namesake for the two best friends he had lost.
“I love it. Honoring old friends in our new beginning.” Y/N smiled as she leaned over. Wrapping an arm around Levi and their newly named son, she pressed a kiss to Levi’s neck. “I love you.”
His eyes closed in acceptance. He had more than he ever dreamed of. It truly was his new beginning. “I love you too, both of you.”
How to being Healthy
We asked three specialists — a naturopathic doctor, a dietitian, and a fitness coach — to reveal to us the best five basic however huge way of life medication transforms they suggest.
Other than giving you three distinct takes on the best way to pick your wellbeing fights, this rundown gives you decisions you can make without being sped off to an unscripted TV drama fat homestead — or purchasing a second cooler for those calorie-controlled, pre-divided frozen dinners.
JAMES ROUSE, N.D.
NATUROPATHIC PHYSICIAN, TRIATHLETE, CHEF, AUTHOR AND HOST OF TV'S "Ideal WELLNESS," HEALTH-TIP SEGMENTS FEATURED ON NBC AFFILIATES IN SEVERAL MAJOR CITIES.
1. THINK POSITIVE AND FOCUS ON GRATITUDE
Exploration shows a solid inspirational mentality helps fabricate a better resistant framework and lifts in general wellbeing. Your body accepts your opinion, so center around the positive.
2. EAT YOUR VEGETABLES
Go for five servings of vegetables daily — crude, steamed, or pan-seared. An eating regimen high in vegetables is related with a decreased danger of creating malignant growths of the lung, colon, bosom, cervix, throat, stomach, bladder, pancreas, and ovaries. Also, a considerable lot of the most impressive phytonutrients are the ones with the boldest tones — like broccoli, cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, grapes, and verdant greens.
3. SET A "5-MEAL IDEAL"
What, when, and the amount you eat can keep both your digestion and your energy levels consistently raised, so you'll have all the more the entire day energy. A "5 supper ideal" will assist you with dealing with your weight, keep your cool, keep up your center, and dodge yearnings.
4. EXERCISE DAILY
Did you realize that every day exercise can decrease the entirety of the biomarkers of maturing? This incorporates improving vision, normalizing circulatory strain, improving slender muscle, bringing down cholesterol, and improving bone thickness. On the off chance that you need to live well and live more, you should work out! Studies show that even ten minutes of activity has an effect — something do as well! Wrench the sound system and dance in your parlor. Pursue swing moving or formal dancing exercises. Stroll to the recreation center with your children or a neighbor you'd prefer to find. Hop rope or play hopscotch. Turn a hula loop. Play water volleyball. Bicycle to work. Hop on a trampoline. Go for a climb.
5. GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP
On the off chance that you experience difficulty resting, attempt unwinding procedures like contemplation and yoga. Or then again eat a little sleep time nibble of nourishments appeared to help move the body and brain into rest mode: entire grain oat with milk, oats, cherries, or chamomile tea. Obscure your room more and dismiss your clock from you. Record stresses or distressing contemplations to get them off of your mind and onto the page. This will help you put them into point of view so you can stop agonizing over them.
Inhabitant CONSULTING DIETITIAN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO–BOULDER WARDENBURG HEALTH CENTER FOR NUTRITION EDUCATION AND THERAPIES AND FORMER DIRECTOR OF THE NUTRITION PROGRAM AT METROPOLITAN STATE COLLEGE OF DENVER.
1. CHECK YOUR FOOD 'TUDE
What we eat and how we feel are connected in complex manners. A solid way to deal with eating is fixated on relishing flavor, eating to fulfillment, and expanding energy, as opposed to zeroing in on weight. Check your equilibrium of low-calorie nourishments, supplement thick food sources (giving numerous supplements per calorie), and food sources that are calorie thick however supplement poor. Most Americans need to eat all the more new entire food sources (as opposed to handled, profoundly refined food sources). Attempt to add all the more entire grains, new products of the soil, and vegetables into your suppers. Pair these carb rich food sources with a sound fat or lean protein to expand fulfillment.
2. EAT LIKE A KID
In the event that adding more products of the soil sounds inauspicious, hope to "finger food" forms that preschool kids love — carrot and celery sticks, cherry tomatoes, broccoli florets, grapes, berries, and dried organic products. All are healthful forces to be reckoned with loaded with cell reinforcements.
3. BE A PICKY EATER
Breaking point immersed fats and trans fats, and mean to eat more nourishments wealthy in calming omega-3 unsaturated fats to cut your danger of cardiovascular sickness and possibly improve discouraged mind-sets. What might be compared to only one gram of EPA/DHA (eicosapentaenoic corrosive/docosahexaenoic corrosive) day by day is suggested. Eating cold-water slick fish (wild salmon, herring, sardines, trout) a few times each week will give both EPA and DHA. Amounting to two tablespoons of ground flaxseed and eating meat, milk, and cheddar from grass-took care of creatures will furnish you with a sound portion of omega-3s.
4. USE FOODS OVER SUPPLEMENTS
Enhancements are not a substitute for a decent eating routine. Albeit numerous wellbeing specialists suggest taking a multivitamin and mineral enhancement that gives 100 to 200 percent of your suggested day by day esteem, every single enhancement ought to be painstakingly assessed for immaculateness and security. Explicit enhancements have been related with harmfulness, responses with meds, rivalry with different supplements, and even expanded danger of illnesses like malignant growth, coronary illness, and diabetes.
5. GET SATISFACTION
Both eating and active work are fun, tactile encounters! In both, focus on delight — not agony. Focus on the dietary benefit of the food sources you decide to eat, just as your feeling of fulfillment, unwinding, strain, elation, and exhaustion when you plunk down to eat. Check in with yourself as you eat, reviving your acknowledgment of craving, totality, and fulfillment while thinking about when and the amount to eat.
RICK OLDERMAN, M.S., P.T.
A PHYSICAL THERAPIST AND OWNER OF Z-LINE TRAINING IN DENVER, COLORADO, OFFERING REHABILITATION, PERSONAL TRAINING, PILATES INSTRUCTION, MOTIVATIONAL INJURY-PREVENTION SEMINARS, EMPLOYEE FITNESS PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT, AND CUSTOM FOOT ORTHOTICS CASTING.
1. Offer YOURSELF A Reprieve
"I spend innumerable hours doing cardio and never appear to lose that last ten pounds!" is a typical protest I hear from customers. Allow yourself to abbreviate your exercise. In all honesty, overtraining could be the issue. Your body can level if not given sufficient rest to reestablish itself, at last prompting a decrease in execution. Exhaustion, grouchiness, absence of energy, discouragement, and expanded cortisol (the "stress" chemical) are a few signs of overtraining disorder. Making a periodization program — separating your everyday practice into different preparing modes — can help forestall overtraining by building rest stages into your routine. For instance, you may weight train on Monday and Wednesday, cycle on Tuesday and Thursday, run on Friday and lay on Saturday and Sunday. You can likewise help balance your program by essentially joining more assortment.
2. THINK SMALL
Regularly the greatest impediment to improving wellbeing is feeling overpowered by all the accessible exhortation and examination. Attempt to zero in first on one little, apparently insignificant, unfortunate propensity and transform it into a sound, positive propensity. In case you're prone to eat when you return home around evening time, all things considered, continue to walk shoes in the carport or doorway and take a brisk turn around the square prior to heading inside. In the event that you have a jar of pop at noon consistently, have a glass of water two days per week all things being equal. Beginning with little, effortless changes sets up the mindset that positive development isn't really agonizing change. It's not difficult to work from here by adding more sound replacements.
3. Stay with GOOD
You can do quite a few things — yet in the event that you have individual associations with individuals who have undesirable propensities, it is regularly a daunting task. The best individuals are the individuals who have associations with other solid individuals. Get your family or companions associated with you when you walk or plan better suppers. Rolling out sound improvements with a friend or family member can unite you just as inspire you.
4. MAKE A LIST… AND CHECK IT TWICE
Require a couple of moments and record all the reasons you can't start an activity program. At that point take a gander at the premise of each reason. For example, on the off chance that you expressed, "No time" as one of your reasons, maybe that depends on a conviction that an activity program takes a great deal of time. Beginning with even five minutes daily will have a constructive outcome since you will have made a solid propensity where one didn't exist previously, and that is an amazing mental change. A more intensive glance at your rundown will uncover those deceptions taking cover behind each pardon.
5. Pursue AN EVENT
Let's be honest, practicing only for practicing or shedding pounds can get exhausting. Flavor things up by pursuing an occasion like a run/walk race or a cycling ride where you can be important for a group. Doing so gives your exercises another reason, and it's amusing to associate with other people who are practicing actually like you — also that most occasions advantage charitable associations, which pairs your vibe great high.
BIOGRAPHY:
There’s nothing that Gabe’s parents wanted more than to have their own little Christmas baby. However, things didn’t go as planned and Gabriel Washington was born a day earlier than intended. However, that was the last time for a long time that Gabe didn’t do exactly what his parents wanted him to. For the next eighteen years of his life, Gabe attended every church service, said every prayer, played every instrument at the church, and he didn’t do anything that he was told to do, no matter what. They say that preacher’s kids are supposed to be the worst, but Gabe is an absolute angel for the most part. His older brother, however, was not. He dabbled in illegal drugs, gang activity, and ultimately armed robbery that landed him behind bars and tainted their family’s image. Gabe did everything in his power not to disappoint his parents like that.
However, the older Gabe got, the more he started to develop certain feelings that his parents and their church had convinced him were wrong. He tried to repress them for as long as possible, until a certain drummer at their church caught on, and Gabe fell in love for the first time.
Just like every other first in his life—his first steps, his first words, his first sermon—Gabe had sex for the first time in their church…more specifically in his father’s pastor’s study. After that, Gabe knew that he was different from everyone else, and he accepted his bisexuality despite the fact that everyone around him talked about how wrong it was. When Gabe sat down his parents to tell them, they took it better than he expected. He wasn’t banished, but there was a bunch of prayer and a bunch of bible reading that didn’t make any difference. Still to this day, his parents look at him differently, but they haven’t disowned him just yet.
Gabe found himself at Pinecrest University -- it’s always been his dream school, and it’s so far away from Mississippi that it seems like a completely different world -- a place where he can truly be himself and not worry about the watchful eyes of his oppressive parents or their minions. Gabe’s still a Christian, but he’s forming his own ideals about his religion as opposed to the ones that were forced on him. He’s the President of the photography club, and chances are that you can find him anywhere on campus with his camera taking pictures usually.
WANTED CONNECTION:
Gabe’s ROOMMATES. Give him people he’s friends with, maybe not so close with, or maybe they don’t like each other at all. Anything can happen here honestly.
FLINGS. Gabe enjoys sex just like any other guy, I do think he has connections with everyone he has sex with though because that’s just the type of guy that he is. Be it friendly or more romantic, Gabe is going to have pillow talk afterwards and ask your muse how their day was or what’s been up in their lives.
His MUSE. Someone he loves from a far -- an unrequited love. Someone he’s so deeply in love with but who doesn’t quite have those feelings back for him. However, he loves taking pictures of them. Maybe this could be an extension of the FLINGS connection, or maybe they’re not having sex at all.
BEST FRIEND. This one’s pretty self-explanatory, maybe it’s his randomly assigned roommate from freshman year, someone he confides in and tells everything to. 100% will be each other’s Best Man at their wedding.
The Particular Proud Forceful Hashtag Has Long Been Taken Over Simply By Gay Really Like
Among several of the indigenous individuals of the Unites states in The americas prior to Western colonization, a common kind of same-sex libido centered with regards to the figure in the Two-Spirit specific. Their own sexual living was using the ordinary tribes members of the identical sex. Several historical data, including Socrates, Lord Byron, Edward 2, and even Hadrian, have experienced terms for instance gay or perhaps bisexual used on them. Several scholars, for example Michel Foucault, have viewed this when risking typically the anachronistic arrival of a fashionable construction involving sexuality overseas to their periods, though various other scholars obstacle this. 2nd, some also have looked at typically the word's background pointed out that "homosexual" has a good being used to be able to pathologize gays(i think they are sick) and lesbians.
HAV illness among homosexual men was correlated by having an increased quantity of sex partners, an increased frequency of oral-anal contact, and multiple episodes of syphilis. The outbreak of Supports the United States dominated the struggle for gay rights in the 1980s and early 1990s. In 1981, the Centers for Disease Get a handle on and Prevention published a written report about five previously healthier homosexual men becoming infected with a rare kind of pneumonia. In 1961, Illinois became the very first state to accomplish away having its anti-sodomy laws, effectively decriminalizing homosexuality, and a local TELEVISION station in California aired the first documentary about homosexuality, called The Rejected. Like English poet and author Radclyffe Hall stirred up controversy in 1928 when she published her lesbian-themed novel, The Well of Loneliness. And during World War II, the Nazis held homosexual men in concentration camps, branding them with the infamous pink triangle badge, which was also given to sexual predators. The research shows that genetic influences are essential but modest, and that non-shared environmental factors, that might include facets operating throughout foetal development, dominate.
A number of commentators rebel ? go against sb/sth ? disobey the exercise altogether, even though encourage day out public statistics who make use of their situations of determine to problems other gay and lesbian people. Being released is a saying referring to someone's disclosure in their sexual inclination or sexual category identity, and is particularly described in addition to experienced variously as an emotional process or simply journey. The most important phase is the one about "knowing oneself", and the recognition emerges the particular one is designed to same-sex interaction. The second phase will involve one's determination to come out in front of large audiences, e. gary the gadget guy. family, close friends, or friends.
The third step more normally involves dwelling openly just as one LGBT people. In the United States at present, people frequently come out for the duration of high school or maybe college age group. When Will My Life Begin? (Fair Game, 11/?)
Tumblr: (1) (2) (B1) (3) (4) (B2) (5) (6) (7) (8) (9) (B3) (10)
Summary: Tangled AU. Clover Callows has been confined to a tower for all of his life, and given the threat that his Uncle Tyrian says his semblance poses to his safety, he accepts that fate. It’s the only life he’s ever known, after all. But when he’s offered the opportunity to fulfill his greatest dream after a chance encounter with a thief -- or bandit, as Qrow Branwen insists there’s a difference between the two -- both Clover and Qrow will discover joys that they never knew life could offer them before.
AO3
A/N: Hi, everyone! I’m sorry if this chapter feels a smidge out of place! I was seeing some family this weekend and the next chapter I had planned was just a bit too complicated for me to give it the focus I wanted to. So instead, I prepared a little mid-space chapter so that I could still give you an update! I hope you like it!
()()()()()()()()()()()()()() Clover Callows felt that like his uncle, he was an intelligent man. He tended to soak up facts Uncle Tyrian told him like a sponge, had a great understanding of scientific fields like astronomy, physics, and biology, took interests in a variety of hobbies ranging from cooking to reading to exercising, and studied all that Uncle Tyrian brought into the tower with a certain methodical thoroughness, whether it be books, elements of nature, or even pieces of food.
However, according to Uncle Tyrian, there was a point where intelligence transcended from just being a collection of facts into being smart and able to do something with those facts. As he described it, what he truly felt allowed someone to graduate from just being intelligent to being truly smart was the ability to take the facts he had and make informed and accurate deductions based off of them.
It was a sentiment Clover found himself strongly agreeing with, and within the confines of his tower, Clover was confident that he encompassed what it meant to be a smart man rather than just an intelligent one. The tower was a finite space with only so many components to make deductions and inferences based off of. It was only natural that he would master anything brought into it if not immediately, then soon after.
That said, Clover was no longer in his tower. He was in a world that felt infinite, a world with people, people he didn’t necessarily understand on anything more than a linguistic level. As he had to constantly remind himself, he was playing by new rules, rules he might end up failing at grasping.
As much as he wished it wasn’t the truth, Clover had reason to doubt whether or not he would truly prove to be smart outside of the tower. Uncle Tyrian had never used the word ‘smart’ to describe Clover before, even while he dutifully stayed in his home. Clover never let himself think too much on that fact, mostly attributing that to a belief that there was just never a time for it to naturally come up. However, there was a second possible reason, once Clover never wanted to acknowledge despite the fact that it may very well have been frustratingly true -- even if Uncle Tyrian thought Clover was smart within the tower, he might not have felt like he was or would ever be smart outside of it, and didn’t want to encourage the growth of undeserved cockiness over a matter that could very well be the difference between life and death by saying otherwise.
It made sense. After all, Uncle Tyrian always told him that for as intelligent as he was, the outside world would eat his naivety and inexperience alive without so much as a second thought, and it wasn’t like he was great at the outside humor his uncle used. If that was anything to go by, then Uncle Tyrian was probably right to not call him as such.
Nevertheless, the outside world was what he was to traverse through in order to see the floating lanterns, and so for once, he would put all he had in his brain to the ultimate test.
Clover guessed the moment of truth for that matter was now at hand.
Since leaving the tower, Clover hadn’t had much of a chance to make deductions, at least not the kind that would do him all that much good in the world beyond his tower. He noticed things about the forest and caves, but once they got to the capital or even lunch, it was anyone’s guess -- least of all, Clover’s --  as to what he’d be able to infer about his surroundings.
However, there was one deduction-based decision that he made inside the tower that the fallout of which was still playing out even well outside its boundaries -- the decision to trust one Qrow Branwen.
Trusting Qrow Branwen proved to be a mixed bag, and something told Clover that an answer to whether or not choosing to trust him was a good idea wouldn’t reveal itself for some time yet. He was no doubt both intelligent and smart regarding the ways of the outside world as well as modestly crafty -- if only because of that amazing weapon of his -- but he had also proved himself wily, slippery, and odd in his mannerisms  -- not to mention far more smug than he had any right being.
Even beyond that though, since he met Qrow, there was one thing about him that had nagged at Clover in much the same way Raven nagged at him every morning for her breakfast.
Qrow had told Clover he’d been chased, and escaping his pursuer or pursuers was his sole motivation for climbing Clover’s tower. Clover had no trouble believing that was true, especially when supplemented by Qrow’s lack of awareness over his semblance.
However, that begged the question as to who or what he was escaping from in the first place.
Right after Clover stuffed Qrow’s unconscious form into his closet back in the tower, there was something that stuck out about him. Everything that Qrow seemed to have on his person made sense to be there -- his clothes, his weapon, his sheath, his cheekbones.
At least that seemed to be the case...until Clover found Qrow’s satchel.
The pin was weird enough, beautiful and refined, but crooked and shoddily made in the same breath, but Clover also realized as he was stashing it away that that pin wasn’t just the primary object in Qrow’s satchel -- it was the only thing in there.
Clover may not have left the tower in his life before just under two hours ago, but even he knew that when one traveled, they packed more in their bags than just a single pin, no matter how beautiful it was.
So what was Qrow’s relation to the pin in his satchel?
Frankly, he had a guess.
After all, Qrow was slippery, so if the circumstances behind what put that satchel in Qrow Branwen’s possession were what Clover thought they were, it wouldn’t exactly surprise him.
Still, as confident that Clover was about the truth of his guess, he had no concrete evidence, and while Clover had been proven right about a lot today, the only thing that had thrown him for a loop was just how non-threatening Qrow turned out to be. Sure, he was borderline shifty at times, but actively dangerous or malicious to Clover or his safety? No, Clover couldn’t say he was, so without any proof of his theory about Qrow’s immediate past before they met, he had to admit that he was in no place to impose such a judgment over his character.
That proved to be the case until about fifteen minutes into their trek to go get lunch, when a chance gust of wind flew by the forest he and Qrow traversed through. While Clover still felt his heart soar with every blow that came his way, he had grown wonderfully accustomed to the feeling of the wind circling his body like an invisible arm cuddling his waist.
What he wasn’t used to was the flapping noise that it carried with it this time.
Clover knew what the flaps of birds’ wings sounded like. Even though Raven was flightless, he never let himself forget the day they met and the copious amount of flapping sounds he heard during her battle with the hawk.
Whatever this noise was from, it wasn’t a bird.
No, Clover knew exactly what the sound was once he eliminated that possibility.
He looked out into the stretch of forest before him, studying the area until he found exactly what it was he was searching for.
Perpendicular to the path he and Qrow were following, Clover spotted it still flapping a bit in the aftershock of the wind’s gust -- a piece of paper.
Clover had heard the sound of flapping paper many times before, a sign that a storm might be on its way or just a quick means of ending his reading time prematurely. He knew the sound of it like the back of his hand.
The paper he saw stuck out from the edge of the tree’s curve, seeming to be attached to it.
Now that was an interesting sight. What was on it?
Clover and Raven exchanged intrigued expressions.
Even though it was off the path Qrow had directed them towards to go get lunch, Clover couldn’t help himself. When one only had a couple of days to make a lifetime’s worth of memories, diversions were only natural. Raven certainly seemed to have no objections to defying their guide and while Clover found their rivalry to be just a step or two above childish, he couldn’t argue with the excuse provided to go explore something.
Curious, Clover approached the paper.
“What’s this?” he asked, not so much to ask a question, but to make sure Qrow knew that they were taking a little detour. Judging by the loud sigh he heard immediately after he finished speaking, it seemed to do the trick perfectly.
Clover moved to the other side of the tree, placing his left index finger on the page to hold it steady as he looked at it.
And look at it he did.
Clover had a feeling that he might have even been proved to be right about Qrow’s relationship to the pin in his satchel by the end of their trip, but he didn’t expect to be proven right in such a head-on way as looking directly at a wanted poster with Qrow’s face on it.
His deduction was right.
Turned out that he was smart after all.
From behind him, Clover could tell that Qrow had seen the poster’s contents as well, not only by the rustling of the bushes beside him, but by the mix of a tired sigh and a grunt that left his mouth.
For a moment, Clover honestly didn’t know what to make of this development. Sure, Qrow had shown himself as nothing but non-threatening so far -- barring his reasoning for his weapon choice -- but that was when he had something akin to anonymity on his side. Now, stripped of that, Clover would’ve been lying if he said that more than a few questions didn’t pop up in his mind during those first few seconds after sensing his presence.
Was knowing this detail about Qrow so plainly to his face going to affect the person Clover thought him to be? Was there a threatening side to Qrow that this bit of information was possibly going to bring out of him? Had Qrow been lying about not knowing Clover’s semblance, planning on taking him somewhere he could better defeat him?
No, none of that felt right, but all the same, Qrow clearly wasn’t happy about this poster’s existence, nor likely the fact that Clover had now seen it.
Qrow mumbled something, something that despite their relative proximity to each other, Clover couldn’t quite make out.
“What did you say?” Clover asked as he turned to look at his traveling companion, trying heroically to keep the faltering of his nerves at bay.
Once more, Qrow mumbled something, but like before, Clover still couldn’t hear it, apart from one word: ‘thief.’
Was he trying to own up to being a thief, or deny it?
Clover had no idea.
“Come again?”
This time, Qrow groaned, loudly and openly.
“I’m not a thief!” he all but shouted. “I’m a bandit! There’s a difference!” Qrow didn’t even look like he was yelling at Clover, but rather the poster on the tree.
Clover’s eyebrow raised as a wave of incredulousness came over him.
He couldn’t be serious, could he?
“That’s what you’re upset about?”
Clover couldn’t keep his disbelieving tone out of his voice, so he didn’t even try not to.
“It’s my brand!” Qrow shot back without missing a beat.
Nothing but sputters left Clover’s mouth as he tried to figure out how to even begin to unpack Qrow’s words. “You’re on a wanted poster!”
That felt the most appropriate.
Qrow waved a dismissive hand.
“I’ve been on those for years,” he said. He then turned back to the poster with a vicious glare. “But despite that, those idiots in the royal guard always get my title wrong!” Clover suddenly felt very tired, in much the same way Qrow was when this conversation started, but for vastly different reasons.
For Gods’ sake...
“Bandit,” Qrow sneered, continuing his rant against the papery culprit. “Not a thief! Ban-dit. Ban-dit. There’s a difference.” Qrow slapped the poster, and Clover fought the urge to laugh.
It was a fight he largely lost.
“Not really,” he said, chuckling all the while.
Qrow’s sneer stayed present on his face, but directed itself at its new target -- Clover.
“Yes, really,” he argued back.
“Look, Qrow,” Clover said, his confidence overwhelmingly self assured in that moment. “I grew up reading a dictionary for fun. There’s virtually no difference between the two words.”
Qrow seemed like he was about to argue back, but Clover’s words looked to give him a moment’s pause.
“A dictionary?” he asked, clearly confused. Clover honestly couldn’t blame him. Even with his inexperience with other people, he knew that dictionaries were odd things to study so carefully as to point out the distinction -- or in this case, lackthereof -- between two words.
“It’s hard to get books,” Clover argued, shrugging. “A dictionary was the best my uncle could do.”
“Hard to get books?” Qrow asked, incredulousness now lacing his voice like dirt laced the bottom of a boot. “You can just go to the book store and get some. It’s not exactly physics. I swear to the Gods, you just keep getting stranger by the second.”
For a second, Clover was struck in a not-at-all small amount of shock.
Were they really as easy to get as Qrow said they were? It didn’t seem like he had a reason to lie. The secret, a secret that Clover could tell Qrow was barely trying to keep the longer they traveled together, was now exposed in the most blatant manner possible.
But if Qrow wasn’t lying, then what did that mean? Why did Uncle Tyrian say he had such trouble getting books if they were apparently as easy to obtain as just about anything else?
Perhaps Uncle Tyrian just didn’t want to risk being recognized by people as the man who knew the location of the lucky baby?
Yes, that made sense.
Well, not fully, but it made enough sense for now.
As Clover recovered from his miniature revelation, he scoffed. “At least I’m not throwing a tantrum because only a synonym of my favorite word was used on a wanted poster and not -- oh, I don’t know -- the fact that you’re on a wanted poster!”
Qrow returned the scoff. “As if they could even get me.”
“I got you,” Clover pointed out, smirking.
“I said it before -- I was distracted and you got lucky. It wouldn’t happen again.”
Clover groaned under his breath, careful to keep his smirk up. There Qrow went, walking right into the word ‘lucky’ as if it was a lake filled with those poorly put together emerald pins. More so the fact that each use was a coincidence than anything is what drove Clover crazy.
Who managed to do that accidentally so many times?
Qrow pointed to the poster. “The guards in the kingdom have been trying to arrest me for years now, but to no success,” he continued, oblivious to Clover’s silent plight. “And it’s not like they could with how wrong they got my hair. Newsflash -- it’s not that messy!” Once more, he shouted that sentiment not at Clover, but at the poster.
Clover’s smirk immediately dissolved into a laughter-filled smile.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about! They got your hair perfectly!” he barked. Remembering himself, Clover settled down somewhat. “But I knew it! That pin in your satchel -- You stole it!”
“It’s n-!” Qrow looked like he wanted to finish that thought, but seemingly decided it wasn’t worth his or Clover’s time judging by the dismissive wave of his hand. “Well, what of it, smarty pants?” he defensively asked instead.
“Stealing is wrong!”
“Maybe it is --”
“It absolutely is.” Clover interjected, giving Qrow a deadpan look that practically screamed ‘even I know that.’
Qrow just shrugged before continuing.
“Look muscles, if it’ll help you sleep any better, I didn’t exactly put a poor family out on the streets by stealing it. I nabbed it off of some rich general. He’s got plenty to live off of, even without it. If anything, I’m actually making use out of the thing instead of continuing to let it collect dust in some attic like it was -- good for the economy, you know?” Clover’s expression stayed the same -- positively deadpanned. Qrow rolled his eyes. “Well, think what you want, smarty pants. Once I get that satchel back, I’m gonna be one rich man. Now, come on.”
Despite Qrow’s dismissive attitude towards the nickname he bestowed onto Clover, Clover himself couldn’t help but smile as he followed Qrow’s lead.
‘Smarty pants.’
Was it the most mature of nicknames? No.
Hell, in just about every way, he even preferred ‘muscles’ to it, though he’d never admit it to Qrow’s face. At least that one was specific to himself and not as much of a mouthful as ‘smarty pants.’
However, what it lacked in elegance or cleverness, it more than made up for in meaning. ‘Smarty pants’ in that moment had an extra level of meaning to Clover, something Qrow likely ran into by accident, but was all the same appreciated. To Clover, it meant that he might actually be smart enough to get by in the outside world after all, and maybe even for more than just this trip to see the lanterns.
Clover’s stomach growled. The detour was nice, but it was now time to get a move on and get some lunch.
Full of confidence from Qrow’s unintentional validation, Clover suddenly found the prospect of talking to other people a little bit less scary, provided they weren’t any more intimidating than Qrow had shown himself to be thus far.
“So, what’s the name of the place we’re going to for lunch?” Clover asked, happy to see Qrow perk up at his question.
“Oh, you’ll love it. It’s a quaint little place called Lil’ Miss Malachite’s.”
Can Sports Manga Really Break Through in North America?
Tumblr media
Here we are in the summer of 2020 and it’s usually San Diego Comic-Con time. And with it comes discussion of how manga is doing in 2020. There was a Manga Publishing Industry Roundtable discussion at Comic-Con with representatives from almost all of the U.S. manga publishers (which you can watch here) about what’s happening in the U.S. side of things. While manga sales have dropped due to the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, they have rebounded back in some ways. A great thing about this is that it’s not just mainstream titles that are selling; it’s also series that are from other genres like slice-of-life and horror.
Which now leads into the title of this post because at the end of the discussion, publishers were asked about what they would like to see in the future. Erik Ko, chief of operations at UDON Comics, said something that really piqued my interest. He said that he wants to see if sports manga can truly break out in North America (i.e. reach levels of sales and popularity a la My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, etc.). Erik mentioned how his daughter loves Haikyu!! on Crunchyroll and watched all 3 seasons multiple times (It’s also mentioned that Haikyu!! sold well during the pandemic for its U.S. publisher Viz Media).
While the manga has officially ended as of this writing, Haikyu!! will last for a while as the anime will have a 4th season and possibly more. However, while Haikyu!! is loved by a lot of anime/manga fans, it’s not exactly a series that has gotten EVERY shonen fan or manga reader talking. With the many sports manga licenses that manga publishers have gotten over the past few years, it doesn’t sound like there’s significant traction.
This does beg the question of what will it take for sports manga to really catch the eyes of manga readers here in the United States.
For starters, I’ll discuss a bit about the history of sports anime here in the United States. It’s been noted that a lot of sports anime do not tend to sell well over here. There was an Answerman article on Anime News Network answering “Why Do Sports Anime Bomb in North America?” that really goes into this. While it’s noted in the article that Yuri!! on Ice and Free! are indeed sports anime and have sold well, almost all discussion about those series revolves around the relationships between the male characters. Sports play second fiddle to the relationships compared to series like Haikyu!!, Slam Dunk, and Captain Tsubasa (where the sports aspect is still preached a lot).
Speaking of Captain Tsubasa, if you don’t know about this series, this is the one sports anime/manga that generated a lot of love overseas in countries that worship football/soccer. In the Manga: The Citi Exhibition book, there was an article on the promotion of Captain Tsubasa in Baghdad, Iraq by the Japan Self-Defense Force. The series was promoted via pictures on water distribution tanks in Iraq in the mid-2000s’ as a way to make Iraqi children smile. During the U.S. occupation of Iraq, Japan would later work with Iraqi media channels to show programming that would help encourage the country. One of these shows happened to be Captain Tsubasa, which was dubbed in Arabic. The series’ fandom took off from there and more places in the Middle East (like Saudi Arabia) even got in on the action using hacked satellites to watch.
I wonder if this is what Erik Ko wants to see - something like Captain Tsubasa that not only gets fans gushing about the story and characters, but also inspires kids to become professional athletes or at least become more physically active in their own lives.
A big problem that gets in the way of this happening in the U.S. is how sports culture is like over here. How do I explain this? I’ll use a quote from a 2016 article in the Milwaukee Independent about Anime Milwaukee.
“While the Anime Milwaukee convention does not collect statistical data about those who attend, walking around the convention provided empirical confirmation of how Anime speaks to multi-generational and multi-cultural people.
Anime itself will not solve the very real problems faced by disadvantaged residents in Milwaukee.
But unlike the adversarial escapism offered by sports teams and the nature of competitive games, the appeal of Anime is with its positive messages. Where as sports is an unrealistic role model for struggling youth, for the most part Anime offers socially beneficial and moral examples.”
Sports in the United States are very much “us versus them.” In Japan, sports focuses on healthy competition between players. At least, that’s what Japanese sports stories try to focus on. While healthy competition between players does happen over here, it either doesn’t get shown as much in U.S. sports media or that competition becomes toxic to the point it hurts innocent people. In the U.S., you’re supposed to win and get recognized in order to move ahead in your respective sport via whatever means necessary. A good example is college basketball over here and how competitive schools have been involved in recruiting scandals over the best high school players. Another example is the psychological trauma faced by the number of young female athletes who were sexually abused/harassed and forced to believe that it was all part of the process to get ahead in their respective sport. I want to note that sports programs in the U.S. are often heavily underfunded, which adds to the pressure that faces any youth going through sports programs.
There’s also this tendency to view athletes over here as all-knowing celebrity gods (i.e. athletes who say awful things with confidence on social media) or people that only know how to play their respective sport (ie. the “shut up and dribble” comment to outspoken basketball players on social issues). There’s no in-between where we get to see the complete humanity of the athlete.
This does tie into how sports fans and anime/manga fans may not get along. You usually learn more about the nuanced aspects of life from outside sports than within. Sports over here preach some questionable values that anime/manga fans sometimes don’t believe in. Add the fact that sports is shoved down Americans’ throats so much and you can see why not everyone over watches sports. I do want to note that there are U.S. pro athletes showcasing their love for anime. While this is nice to see, almost all the titles they grew up watching are mainstream shonen/shojo. I’m curious if athletes would watch series like Haikyu!!, Kuroko’s Basketball, Eyeshield 21, etc., but then I wonder if they would keep watching as they can only handle so much sports drama as it’s part of their everyday reality.
So what will it take for a sports manga to break through in a big way? Viz Media tried to promote Slam Dunk here using the NBA to promote literacy in 2008. I also found out that Tokyopop tried to do something with the NBA via its Cine-Manga initiative in the mid-2000s’ and it only lasted from 2004-2007. So to that extent, there probably has to some kind of manga that’s similar to the now-famous The Last Dance documentary, which chronicled Michael Jordan’s last championship run with the Chicago Bulls in the 1997-1998 NBA season.
Though honestly, it’s gonna take a mangaka who’s really interested in all aspects of American sports culture to come up with that kind of story. What might be better is that the story heavily criticizes the culture in a compelling and sometimes humorous way. I think that’s what will really get all U.S. manga fans and comic fans interested, especially those who are sick of commercialized sports exposure wherever they go. I do think over time as anime/manga continue to be accepted in the geek ecosystem, we can see this kind of story take off.
Until then, if you happen to be someone who likes both sports and anime/manga in a level-headed manner like me, you’re doing alright. It’s hard to occupy both spaces when you’re supposed to choose a side. Although I liked physical education during my school days, I can understand why anyone whose hobbies lie more towards the artistic and creative side disliked physical education possibly due to the structure in how it’s taught. I know sports anime lovers that dislike watching real sports in general and I get why.
Hearing Erik’s comments made me wonder about the beauty of sports manga. Now that I think hard about it, sports anime/manga are a intersection of both the “nerd” and “jock” in a way that helps everyone. To be honest, that intersection is what really bridges gaps that makes people better. It’s what truly completes a person. I’ll use this example - you can’t have mental health without physical health and vice versa. Some kind of exercise can help the mind while learning how your mind works can help you do better in physical activities that connect people together.
Maybe more importantly, what sports manga tends to preach is that winning shouldn’t be everything. Right now, everyone is encouraged to win at something just for a taste of meaningless status and we’re seeing how that mentality can ruin someone. Sports, with all of its benefits freed from corporate influence, are supposed to teach us (like all great manga stories do) that there’s no “us versus them,” there’s only “us” in the end.
And that kind of story deserves to hit a home run that rounds all the bases to reach a celebratory and meaningful win for the world.
Hi could I have a BSD match-up, I'm an INTJ-T/Thinker/Taurus bi girl, I have straight, dark brown hair with same eyes. I have fair skin with a muscular body, and I'm 5'3 I tend to wear prim and proper clothes. I can be quite cold, but once you know me I can be nice. I tend to get lost in my own head, and am oblivious to romance. I am be very shy, yet argumentative and easily embarrassed. I'm known for being the mom, as I tend to worry over others. I love exercise and things where I think.
I ship you with...
🌷 Gin Akutagawa 🌷
Tumblr media
You are strong, persistent with a calm demeanor but got a bit of a temper and can lash out when provoked. Sounds familiar?
Like Gin, you rarely fall head over heels in love. Being an INTJ makes you the kind of person who will be analytical but perceptive on every situation you'll get into. You'll carefully thread your way into the relationship which also compliments your Taurean characteristics. Gin will have zero problems with taking things slow with you, taking everything one step at a time and really getting to know you and vise versa. With this, both of you will assess whether just how much you can trust the other. You're patient with the things that you want and luckily, Gin is too. Like a Taurus that you are, getting yourself into new situations may often be an uncomfortable feeling; your INTJ side further adding up to your sensitivity. This said sensitivity may not be emotional, but it could be your heightened awareness on your surroundings. You can easily pick up nuances and subtleties and you can get overwhelmed from external factors, causing you to be nervous or worried. A Taurus like you prefers comfort and security and the unknown might scare you. Gin mirrors you in this way. Because of her job, she's naturally wary of everything around her. She may be displaying stoicism most of the time but you can be assured that she's paying close attention to every details. Her quiet and indifference exterior makes her appear cold, just like yourself. But being once again like you, she can be quite nice and caring towards people she is fond of.
To add more to your similarities, both of you are highly rational individuals. You carry yourselves in a manner that people wouldn't want to get on your bad side. However, both of you tends to get embarrassed easily. If people see the two of you together, they'll tease you just to see the both of you blush and get flustered about it. You also tend to hide this side of your personality except for each other as expressing feelings and emotions openly is neither you nor Gin's strongest suite. An INTJ like yourself probably spends more time thinking about love than expressing it but the analytical prowess you possess being in this personality type will be beneficial because you'll know that Gin's little acts of affection towards you proves her loving intentions. It might take a while before both of you actually get utterly comfortable with each other to say out loud your proclamation of love but you also know that it will all be worth it in the end. Both of you will be sure of your feelings and there will be no ounce of doubt about each other's genuine interests.
Overall, I think your pairing will be a good one because both of you seeks stability and security. You're interested in long-term, deep and strong relationship and would take your time in building an indestructible foundation of trust and understanding for each other. The two of you will be devoted, loyal, supportive, loving and protective of each other. Gin will not be the type to lead you on an uncertain future which will ultimately remove your anxiety in entering the relationship. She will also greatly appreciates your "mom" side and would gladly accept your care; although you have to expect that she'll do the same for you and you have to let her take care of you too. She'll charm you with her cooking skills and with just how sweet she can actually be despite her cold exterior when at work. Aside from her brother, you'll be one of the very few people who sees this side of her and that alone makes you feel her love. Of course there will be time where there could be some misunderstandings, but since an INTJ like you prize honest communication, everything for you will be up for an open discussion and change. Being such an important person in Gin's life, she will notice the times when you're not on your best and she will do all she could to make you feel better. On a lighter note, I think you'll also enjoy her dry and sarcastic sense of humor. You'll enjoy your time with her as her rather crude teasing on her colleagues amuse you. You'll also get to bond on several physical activities since Gin loves working out too. There will be times where she'll even compliment your muscles which in return, makes you blush madly. You might also enjoy going shopping together and trying out clothes (or even wear each other's clothes) as both of your styles are almost similar to one another. Your straight brown hair and eyes will also compliment Gin's own appearance, making you look even more perfect for one another.
Thank you for sending this in, anon~ it took way too long for me to work on this and I humbly apologize. I hope this is enough as a peace offering~ (๑ • 𖥦 • ๑) ♥️
H E A D C A N O N S
Benjamin was born as the only child to Regina and David Morgan, a museum curator and ceo respectively in manhattan.
Benjamin was raised in close proximity to his cousin Madeleine Spencer, to the extent where Benjamin considers Maddie to be more like a sibling to him than a cousin. This came from both of their parents busy schedules and similar lifestyles which led him to be brought up in this manner.
Benjamin would like to think that his parents were happily married, but it was only as he got older that he realised the family set up that he had grown up with as a child wasn’t the same as everyone else’s. Nevertheless, he figured that it worked for them as it was, and he still considers himself to have had a good childhood.
Spending as much time in the Spencer household as he did, Benjamin sparked a genuine interest in medicine, looking up to his uncle, Madeleine’s father, as a role model and idol for his future career in medicine.
Benjamin was athletic in school, actively taking part in boxing and baseball. He hoped from early on in high school that he would be able to get into a good school on a baseball scholarship so he wouldn’t need to focus as hard on his studies, but a torn rotator cuff in his sophomore year quickly killed that dream, and he came to the quick conclusion that he had to get his head in the books.
As much as he would hate to admit it, he knew that his parents pulled a few strings when it came to his offers for college, but the decision ultimately came down to him. During this time he had watched Madeleine begin to spiral out of control, the concern for his cousin and arguably best friend only growing with each day that passed.
It was during this time that Benjamin turned down the offer from Harvard that his father had swindled for him, choosing instead to stay closer to the city in order to be nearby while Madeleine got the help she had promised her parents she would get.
He was thankful for this decision as the realisation that she hadn’t been getting help came about following Amelia Shepherd’s overdose. While Madeleine was in rehab, Benjamin made a point of visiting her as much as he could, skipping classes if he needed to to make sure that she felt supported. She was basically his kid sister after all.
As Madeleine got clean, Benjamin took the MCATs, scoring high enough to be accepted into John’s Hopkins off his own back this time. As Madeleine was seemingly doing well, Benjamin decided to move that little bit further out, knowing he would be close enough if she needed him to return.
It was during this time that the two established their bi-weekly phone calls, no excuses allowed, his way of keeping an eye on her completely.
Benjamin moved that little bit further for his residency to Mayo, just as Madeleine moved to Switzerland for her masters. It made sense, he was happy for her and continued to adjust his schedule to make sure their phone calls went ahead as they needed to, suiting her schedule over his.He would often stay awake until the early hours of the morning just to speak to her.
His residency was fairly smooth sailing, despite a period of switching between services as he was indecisive about what specialty he was going to go into. He had always had his heart set on cardio like his uncle, but it only took one case with the ENT attending to have him hooked.
As he came to the end of his fellowship, he debated the idea of having a second specialty (he’s a bit of a show off like that), but a nagging feeling inside of him told him something more important was coming.
His calls with Madeleine weren’t like they used to be, years of regularity and consistency seemed to be falling apart, with nothing that he could do from where he was. He wanted to believe that this was part of the recovery, that she didn’t need him the way she used to, but he couldn’t be certain.
The night of Amelia’s intervention, Benjamin received a frantic phone call from Madeleine and he knew then that things were not good. Whether she was high or just drunk he couldn’t have been certain at first, it was only as she spoke about everybody leaving her the he snapped into action. She’d fallen off the wagon, and he’d be damned if he was going to stand by and let it happen.
Benjamin packed a bag and hopped on the first plane to Seattle, ready to hold an intervention of his own if he needs to. As far as he is concerned he’s here for Maddie and nothing else.
[ENG TRANS] 200701 #VogueInConversationwithNICHKHUN
[Thai-Eng trans by Daffodil0624]
Nichkhun: COVID makes me lazy. 😂 It made me think I could not go out to exercise or do many things. In fact, it's just an excuse. If you really want to exercise and take care of your health, you can do it wherever you are (at home, outside, or while you go to work.)
Nichkhun: When I'm home, I watch Netflix, play games, or practice piano. I don't like to go out much. But I am an active person. When I go out, I would spend my day getting everything done before I go home.
About becoming Broach Nichkhun on #TheBrothersTH
Nichkhun: Normally I don't like to be a mentor or a judge on audition shows. I don't think I'm talented enough to criticize or judge anyone. But P'Tik told me he wanted to find and teach teens to be both idols and gentlemen. Most importantly, this show isn't scripted. There are no 'drama' or arguments scheduled on any filming days.
Nichkhun: I have worked in many countries and wanted to share my experiences with these kids.
Vogue: So when you were very serious and strict with the kids on the show, it was real.
Nichkhun: Yes. I tried not to be strict. I wanted to know how much they were determined to excel in this field. People who want to enter showbiz have several different reasons, right? Some people want to be famous. Some want to be rich. Some want to show their talents to the world. I had to gauge the reasons they wanted to be a star. These kids were nice and well-mannered. Some of them were not focused/determined and I was strict with them.  When they didn't finish their assignment on time, I was quite strict. But P'Ananda often told me not to scold them. He would do it himself. So I was playing good cop.😆
Nichkhun: When I watched these kids practice, I smiled to myself and thought of myself practicing over 10 years ago. Among these 20 kids, some of them were very talented. It's a similar situation when I first went to JYPE. If there were 50 trainees, 40 of them were talented and top of the class. The other 10 trainees were cast probably because of their good looks/physical appearance. These 10 trainees would struggle. No matter how much we practiced, we couldn't catch up with other trainees. Even if we worked 2 times harder, it was not enough. If I started from -20, other trainees started from 60. So I really couldn't catch up. Among these 20 kids on The Brothers, there were competitions with themselves and with other kids who had equal skills.
Nichkhun: When I looked into their eyes, I thought of myself when I was a trainee. Back then, while I was practicing each day, I really couldn't see how my future would turn out. I was not sure when I would sing as well as other trainees. I was not sure whether that was even possible. I couldn't sing, dance, or speak Korean.
Nichkhun: I was scolded so many times. "Why can't you do it? Why can't you compete with others?" I often thought, "Well, you did see my audition tape. You knew how bad I am. Why did you cast me then?" 😂 What's the point of insulting me when you know I am not talented? I was upset for a long time. Until I was fed up with all these insults. "You are not talented. You can't do it. You suck." I didn't want to hear these words anymore. I wanted them to say, "You have improved. You can do it."  I guess my resentment had pushed me to work harder/to improve.
Vogue: But you are a star now.
Nichkhun: Determination/dedication is most important. But luck also plays an important role. I often say I am a lucky guy. If I was not a member of 2PM and didn't debut with 2PM that year, I think I would not be in this position. It was perfect timing. Back then there were not a lot of foreigners who became well-known in Korea. Then 2PM became even more popular because of Heartbeat. That's why I said the timing was perfect.
Vogue: Hottest want 2PM to make a comeback soon.
Nichkhun: 2PM will definitely make a comeback together. We planned to make a comeback in the middle of next year. But I think it may be delayed because of covid. I don't know how much covid will affect our plans next year. 2PM members meet and talk with each other often. Every time we meet, we talk about the time the six of us stood on stage together. We miss those moments.
Nichkhun: All those times we spent together were miraculous. I know these 5 friends I have worked with are my best friends. They are friends I love the most. These are friends who can sacrifice their lives for each other. I have worked with these friends and our job is to make people happy. It's something money can't buy. Fate brings the six of us together. It's quite funny when you think about it. I am not Korean. I had never thought of being a singer. I had no desire to enter showbiz. Then I met these 5 friends. It's simply miraculous.
Vogue: What do you guys talk about besides your work?
Nichkhun: We spend only 10% of the time talking about our work. 90% are spent on nonsense stuffs. 😂
Nichkhun: I have tried to encourage my friends to play golf. Chansung and Taec have started to play golf. I am still trying to convince others to play too.
Vogue: How long have you played golf?
Nichkhun: Almost 5 years. I like to play golf because I can compete with myself. I play badminton too. It's hard to defeat the other player who's really talented. With golf, I compete with myself. Every time I play, the conditions are different; wind, rain, grass, or myself. It teaches me to be with the present moment. If we think too far ahead, we won't see the target in front of us. We should move forward step by step.
Vogue: I saw you taking a lot of photos with kids on your IG.
Nichkhun: I love children. When I went to USA and met my cousin's kids, I wanted to give them good memories which may make them a little happier when they grow up. I want to give them my love. When I look at children, I am a little envious. You have the whole world in front of you. Your life is just beginning. You can be whatever you want to be. It depends on how many good people you will meet during the course of your life, how many good and bad things you will encounter, and how much you will be loved.
Nichkhun: That's why I don't want to give children money. I want to give and show them my love. I want these children to know they are valued. I want them to grow up to be a great person. I want the children I have met to know they were born to be loved. They are the light of our world. I want them to know they are important and valued. These are all the basic things I want them to know.
Nichkhun: I love children. But I don't know when I will have my own kids. People have told me loving other people's kids is a different feeling from having my own kids. There are both positive and negative sides. So I think it is not gonna happen anytime soon. Is that right, Hottest? When I post a photo with kids, 50% of my fans would ask, "When are you gonna have kids? We want to see you playing with your kids."
Vogue: How do you play with kids?
Nichkhun: Throwing them in the air. 😂 And I try not to stand over them. I don't want them to feel I am an adult. If they are sitting and playing on the floor, I will lie down. I will lie down on the floor and play with them. I want them to feel that I am their friend. At the same time, I want them to feel that I can protect them and make them feel safe because I am bigger. Playing with kids is delightful. But at a certain point when kids become hyperactive, it is extremely exhausting for me.  If they like being tossed up high, my arms hurt on the next day. 😂
Vogue: How long have you worked with UNICEF?
Nichkhun: Seven years. My family have donated to several foundations. When I started working in Korea, I saw UNICEF's ad about children who suffered from malaria. I asked my manager to call them and asked for more details. UNICEF staff in Korea saw my name after I made a donation. They called to thank me. Then years later, UNICEF Thailand asked me to be Friend of UNICEF. I accepted the invitation to be a spokesperson for them.
Nichkhun: For the past 7 years, I have met children in several slums. You won't believe there's a slum right next to a shopping mall in Bangkok. Six to seven families live in a very crowded space not bigger than a bag shop in a shopping mall. People should not have to live in a living condition like that. There are a lot of kids there who should be in schools but they have to work to help support their family or have to take care of their younger siblings.
Nichkhun: I visited and talked with a family there. The grandparents called their grandkids that it was time to eat. I asked them what did they prepare. The grandkids came running and looked so happy. Then I saw the grandpa took out a ball of old sticky rice, sprinkled some salt, and gave it to their kids who ate it happily.
Nichkhun: To be frank, I can't totally change their world and the living conditions of people in these slums. The best I can do is telling people as much as I can about what I have seen in these slums. It's not that people aren't interested in these issues. I think they don't realize somewhere not far from their home, there're hundred thousand people who don't have fundamental rights and opportunities they deserve.
Vogue: Some people know UNICEF help children and they may want to make a donation. Can you tell us how these donations are spent?
Nichkhun: The most important part is for buying food for children. Especially for children who live in areas that are difficult to access, we provide them with Ready-to-Use-Therapeutic Foods (RUTF) paste, medicines, and water. We have a great campaign that encourages reading too. It's a mobile library campaign. We rent trucks, made them into mobile libraries, and drove to faraway villages in the countryside.
Nichkhun: Some people may think, "I'm not rich. I don't have extra money to spend on donations." But I think 10 baht or 100 baht monthly donation can make a lot of difference. If people come together and help, it can move things forward. You don't have to donate 10,000 or 100,000 baht. It doesn't have to reach a certain amount of money to be considered a donation. If it truly comes from your heart, 1 baht is enough. If a person makes a 1 baht donation, we will get 10,000 baht from 10,000 people. 10,000 baht can be spent on a lot of things including vaccines and food for kids.
Nichkhun talked about his Thai horror film ‘Cracked’ which should be released this year but it depends on situations regarding covid.
Vogue: Normally are you scared of ghosts?
Nichkhun: It's not that I'm not scared. Let's say I am not scared that much. But if you want me to go to a remote, deserted place at night alone, I won't go. 😂
Nichkhun: There was a time that I experienced what Thais call Pee-Um.
(Note: ‘Pee-Um’ means a suffocating feeling / sleep paralysis while falling asleep which is believed to be caused by a spirit.)
Nichkhun: It happened when I stayed at a hotel. It's the first time I stayed at that hotel. People often say after you feel suffocated, when you open your eyes, you will see a ghost sitting on your chest. Sometimes, you will see a ghost standing near your bed. It's the first time I experienced these feelings. I was sleeping. When I opened my eyes, I knew I couldn't move.  I tried as much as I could to open my eyes, raise my head, and look around the room. I hoped to see someone there in the room but, unfortunately, I couldn't see him/her. I was scared but I truly wanted to know whether I had that kind of sense. Too bad I couldn't see anyone so I went back to sleep. 😅
Vogue: Your fans want to know when you will be back to Thailand.
Nichkhun: Today my mom asked me the same question, "When will you come home?" If I go back to Thailand to work on an event/a job, I may spend 2 days working. But I will have to spend 14 days in quarantine (in Thailand). When I come back to Korea, I will have to spend another 14 days in quarantine in Korea too. One month is over. 😅
Nichkhun: So it's difficult to deal with my work in other countries right now. I really want to work and go to several places. Normally, I often flew and worked in several countries. During this time, I have stayed home for months. I'm not used to it. My electricity bill last month is a bit higher than usual. 😂
Nichkhun: I hope everyone is not bored with waiting for me. I hope you guys are healthy. Don't forget to exercise. It's really important. Try to eat food that's good for your health. Keep smiling. It will help make our world a little brighter.
Family Fights - Chapter Ten
Tumblr media
Summary:  Even the strongest bond, the most loving family, can be broken by nightmares, and the librarian is soon to learn this. As she learns sinister things about a person who she had thought was lost forever, she realizes she will need the help of another witch to get her family back.
Notes:  Yeah, I know this chapter is tiny. When I read my fic planning to see which chapter was next, I honestly wondered what the hell I was thinking when I wrote it. I’ll try to write another chapter until saturday to make up for it. Wishing all of you a wonserful week!
(chpt1) (chpt2) (chpt3) (chpt4) (chpt5) (chpt6) (chpt7) (chpt8) (chpt9) (chpt10)
“I’m just saying it’s really weird that they call it ‘The Hundred Years’ War’ if it didn’t really last a hundred years.”
Frida sighed, walking straight to the history session of the library. The three of them still had their bags and their school uniforms, having decided to study at Trolberg’s public library right after they left school.
“Because ‘The Hundred and Sixteen Years’ War’ is kind of a mouthful, don’t you think?” She answered without looking at her friend. “Besides, we’re not even studying that. Where’d you get that from?”
“I saw it on TV yesterday.” Hilda shrugged, and David nodded along with her.
“It’s a misleading name.”
“Anyway.” Frida tried to bring their attention back to the matter at hand before they could go back to that subject. “I don’t know about you, but I want to take as many notes as I can today. There’s this amazing book on the era we’re studying, but we can’t take it home, unfortunately.”
“You could make a copy?” David suggested.
“I might if I don’t finish in time. So let’s get started right away.” She sat down at one of the library’s long tables, putting her backpack on the seat beside her. Her friends joined her and soon they were all studiously getting ready for their exam.
Hilda had picked a relatively new textbook and had set out to answering as many questions as she could, searching through the pages when she didn’t know how to do the exercise and occasionally asking Frida when that also didn’t work.
She was already beginning to get tired and considering suggesting a little break when the librarian walked by their table, pushing the library cart in front of her. Her shoulders were hunched forwards and she didn’t pay much attention to her surroundings, something Hilda realized when the librarian didn’t notice she was there.
“Maven!” She called, low enough for it to be acceptable in a library but loud enough that she was heard. “Good afternoon! How are you doing?”
Maven stopped walking and turned to her, giving her a small, tired looking smile.
“Hey there, Hilda.” The other two kids stopped their studying when they realized who Hilda was talking to. She had grey circles under her eyes, which combined with her pale skin gave her a somewhat ghostly appearance. “I’m… fine.”
Hilda frowned. “You don’t look like it.”
Maven grimaced. She felt like collapsing to the floor at any instant, but she’d hoped the girl wouldn’t notice. She felt that she should have known that her apprentice was smarter than that.
“Can I talk to you in my office? I promise I won’t keep you for long.”
Hilda first looked at her friends for a sign that it was okay for her to go. David shrugged, and Frida nodded in a solemn manner. She got up then, not bothering to close the textbook since she planned on studying more once she came back. After smiling reassuringly at the librarian, she followed her into the office.
It was a small room on the first floor of the library, near the circulation desk. Having left the book trolley behind, Maven opened the door to allow Hilda in. She had a desk with paperwork neatly stacked on it, and a water filter in one of the corners. Hanging on the wall, there was a magnetic board filled with what looked to be reminders written by herself and fliers of activities the library had or would host. It was overall a emotionless place, and the only personal touches Hilda noticed were a picture of Freyja on the desk and a pot with violets by the window sill of the office’s tiny window.
“Sorry for taking you away from your studying.” She said when they were inside, closing the door behind them. She poured herself a glass of water from the filter, and wordlessly offered it to Hilda. When the girl declined, shaking her head, she took a sip.
“Don’t worry about it. So there is something bothering you?” The question was superfluous. Of course there was something bothering her, there had been ever since her sister had left and had only gotten worse recently. The true question to be asked was ‘why do you look like a wreck?’, but Hilda was far too polite to say that.
Maven sighed, and then swallowed what was left of her water.
“I’ve been staying up all night recently.” She said, and Hilda could all but feel the exhaustion on her voice. “I’ve been pushing my magic as far as I can to find where Myra is staying. She has got to be living somewhere in Trolberg. If only I could find her…”
“You would be able to talk to her.” Hilda finished, coming to understand the situation. “It would make things easier.”
“It might.” Truth be told, it didn’t matter if it helped them or not. Maven just wanted to be able to see her sister and know that she was being taken care of. Thus why she was using her abilities to magically search into every house, looking for signs of her sister’s energy imprint. It was a tiresome process, and many times she’d been led the wrong way by clues of Myra’s presence in houses she had haunted. It was hard to say when she would manage to finish, and with the luck she was having, Myra would probably be at the last house she would check.
“But you really shouldn’t be doing this to yourself, you know.” The librarian blinked, surprised at her words. Hilda continued speaking. “It’s really not healthy to you. Truly, you’d benefit from getting some regular sleep. And I bet using too much magic is not helping you out either.”
“I’m not that tired.” Maven lied stubbornly, even as her bones ached with fatigue. “I’ll be okay. At least until I find her.”
“Well, you won’t find her if you work yourself to death!”
The librarian was tempted to be angry at her apprentice. She was an adult, and perfectly able to take care of herself without a little girl telling her what to do. But the warning seemed to come from a place of such genuine concern that she couldn’t bring herself to be mad. Though she had to admit that it was amusing to receive this advice from the girl who had accepted to be tormented by the marra solely to help a friend.
“We’ll discover a way.” Hilda said gently. “It will be fine, I promise. Just take care, okay?”
Surprisingly, Maven found herself nodding. “Okay.”
“Maybe I could try to help you with whatever spell you’ve been doing to track her down?” She suggested. “Two witches have got to work better than one.”
The librarian smiled at her eagerness, but denied. “It’s not the type of thing you should be doing just yet. I don’t you to pressure your magic into something it’s not ready for. Still, thank you for offering.”
“That’s what friends are for.” She reached out to touch Maven’s shoulder, and this time Maven didn’t startle. She found she was getting quite used to Hilda’s tactile nature. “I guess I’ll get back to my studying, then. See you Saturday?”
“Yes, I'll stop by your house on our usual time.” When Hilda had let her hand fall to her side again, Maven opened the door for the girl. “Send my regards to your mother.”
“I will! And you take care of yourself, Mave!”
The librarian scrunched her nose at the nickname, but before she could say anything, Hilda was already out of sight, probably hidden by one of the gigantic bookshelves. She chuckled and locked the office’s door again, ready to get back to her tasks.
“What a funny little girl.”
“I’m very worried for her, Alfur. I’m not so sure that she will stop looking.” Hilda admitted, looking at the ceiling. The lights in her room were already off, and she was lying on her bed, snuggling under the blankets as she talked to her friend.
“That could cause a problem.” Alfur, who was listening to her from the shelf, answered. “There’s only so much magic a witch can do before running out of strength. If that happens, she’ll be vulnerable for quite some time. And it will only be worse if she’s not taking care of her physical body.”
Hilda sighed, turning into her side. She’d been able to keep her worries at bay during the day, even going so far as telling her mother that the librarian was fine when she asked. But now, left alone with her thoughts, she was beginning to get nervous again. So she’d called Alfur to talk to her. His solutions weren’t always the best, but he never failed to make her feel better. He made her feel that he had her back.
“I want to help, but I don’t know how.” She said, her mind going back to Maven’s red eyes and slumped posture.
“You’ve already done enough, I’m sure she appreciated having you to talk to. But tell me again, what does this Myra look like?”
“Not very tall. Long dark hair, but Maven says it was lilac once. She was wearing a fur lined jacket and a skirt when I saw her in the marra’s camp. Why the question?”
Alfur scratched his chin, the cogs in his brain turning as he contemplated something that might just work.
“Just wanted to know. Now you should get some rest yourself.” Before mum hears us talking and comes here to tell you to sleep, he thought. Hilda seemed to accept the suggestion, and soon the elf heard her breathing deepen.
He ran back inside the clock which he used as his room and put a sheet of paper in front of him. As soon as he was finished, he’d leave the house to find the closest elf post station, and hopefully he’d be back before Hilda was awake.
Knowing there was no time to lose, he picked a pen up and began his letter.
“Dear Great Raven,
Hilda needs your help.”
