WAYS TO HELP PALESTINE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
👾 starts off doing streaming just for fun & thinks to herself that no one’s gonna watch it until people actually enjoy watching her play.
🎮 definitely play minecraft and would argue with KIDS on roblox and get competitive with them while playing.
🕹️ OBSESSED WITH FORTNITE LITERALLY A FUNDRAISER TO FORTNITE
👾 definitely would say this "i can cook, clean and carry you on fortnite" to flirt with girls
🎮 she definitely has a cat(s) and people would always want it on the stream
🕹️ i can totally see her raging while playing valorant lolll and would definitely waste money on the skins too.
“okay chat, should i buy it? nah, im just gonna buy it” the chat floods with saying no but will she listen to you guys? no. “okay, i just bought it! watch my aim get better chat” her aim DOES NOT get any better lol but at least the skins are pretty!!
👾 she’s surely shy at first and won’t show her face, hell even her hands !! she just shows what she's playing and just talk
🎮 would try to be social with her “fans” as much as possible cause she likes to hang out with them.
🕹️ would do a face reveal after she hit the milestone!! and people would go CRAZYYYYY. i mean who wouldn’t, right? it’s ellie williams!!!
👾 she probably would be active on twitter more and sometimes on tiktok and rarely on instagram (just to update story and her feed)
🎮 tweet the most unhinged things YET doesn’t get cancelled because somehow all of her tweets are kind of relateable…
🕹️ other than streaming her gameplay she would definitely do some reaction, play her guitar and sing, reviewing things that are so useless & stupid
👾 talking about reactions, SHE WOULD TOTALLY REACT TO THE EDITS, ART AND FICS ABOUT HER (she thought it was funny and some of the fics are BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN)
smelliewilliams : OH NO SHE KNOWS iloveellie69 : uhh yall better hide !!!! livelaughloveellie : ellie pls dont react to it 😇 simpforels : FOR YR OWN SANITY!! “chat, you’re going crazy” she scoffed. few minutes later… “oh wow, that sure is something! haha uhm…” "the technology is getter scary, how does she makes it sounds like me. like does that not sound like me actually saying it?? it's really impressive" her reacting one of the edits with ai audios that sounds like her “YALL ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD AT DRAWING”
🎮 she appreciates all of your edits, fics and arts! would totally do friday fanarts or something like tom felton would do lol!
🕹️ people BEG her to do vlogs, cause it would be fun and silly vlogs!

👾 people would be shocked if they knew how smart ellie is 😭 a major nerd if you ask me ! there's no doubt that she starts to share some fun facts that she knows & takes some online quizzes to prove that she's smart
🎮 would totally go on omegle and just troll or make new friends
🕹️ that is where she met you !!
you were bored one night and decided to go on omegle just for fun and you met her there. although ellie's platform is big, she still doesn't know half of the influencers or streamers so her chat goes CRAZY when she sees you and is like matchalvr : OMG IS TGAT YN ???? smelliewilliams : ELLIE YOURE SO LUCKY justanormalgirl : MY TWO WORLDS COLLIDING “wait a second, are you yn?” she asked ”that’s me” “why is my chat going crazy about you?” her eyes scanned the chatroom. “hold on, you do streaming too?”
👾 started to play with you more and she would occasionally join your stream and support you there if she can't play (since the timezone sucks)
🎮 people start shipping you two and one-day ellie liked an edit of you and her (which is super hot and the audio is boaf? BOAF!! , pls get what i mean 😢) and the fandom went insane
🕹️ the two of you started to get close and plan to meet each other sometime in the future
👾 LOL WOULD TOTALLY DO THE “when the gc makes it to the hang out” TIKTOK, the gc is being JUST the two of you 😭
🎮 she would either have an energy drinks, juice or water on her table.
🕹️ her sleep schedule is FUCKED UP, that’s explaining her dark circle & eyebags.
👾 love when people greet her at public place, she just love meeting her fans

Poise & Progress: The Game Plan
So in my last blog post (which was also my first might I add) I mentioned that I adore anything relating to leveling up and becoming a femme fatale. And so today I’m choosing to become a part of what I adore.
Here, I’m laying out my goals and plans on how I will achieve these goals. I’ve decided to categorize them based on the areas of my life that I would like to elevate. I will add that this is neither an original idea or layout. I was inspired by a blog here on tumblr that I’ve been following for a while. (@boujeeceo - they haven’t been active for a while though but you can look through their page of course! I don’t gatekeep.)
Okay, let’s get started with my goals shall we?
One Time Goals:
Save 5k
Finish my modeling website
Buy a vlogging camera
Create 3 Sources of income
Start my social media management/marketing business
Open my clothing boutique
Have my own skin care line here in The Bahamas
To Purchase:
Smile direct club
New bedroom furniture and closet storage (my bedroom needs a SERIOUS makeover)
New Wardrobe essentials (a little difficult considering my personality changes every three months but I think now that I’m laying it all out and building my dream persona it may get easier to manage)
Health & Fitness
Start a workout routine
At home pilates (gyms make me uncomfortable for many reasons)
Daily 30 minute jogs
Healthier diet (wholesome, plant based?)
Intermittent fasting?
Cut out meat again?
Add more fruits and vegetables to my diet
Create a meal plan and meal prep on Sundays?
Solid Sleep schedule
Get at least 7 hours of sleep daily (I’m struggling with the idea of this because I feel as though in order to be successful sooner I have to sacrifice some hours of sleep)
Take vitamins daily
Beauty:
Build a solid skincare routine & be consistent with it!
Practice my makeup skills
Learn how to install and style my own wigs
Finances
Fix my relationship with money!!
SAVE & BUDGET
Increase Income
Work/Career
Start a side hustle that I can scale into a remote/work from home business that brings in more than my current 9-5 does.
Relationships:
Making more friends with the same interests as me and ones that have successfully achieved for themselves the lifestyle that I see for myself so that I can learn from them. This also means evaluating my current friendships and putting some distance between me and those that aren’t working on growth.
Spirituality
Strengthen relationship with God
Read 1 chapter of the Bible Daily
Continue to explore my spirituality
Meditate daily
Socials:
The girlies on every social media platform say that the best way to remain consistent and to be successful when it comes to social media is by niching down. I’ve been working on what my niche could be, based on the type of content that I like to consume and also the type of content that I will be able to post the most given my current location, income, and budget.
I’m leaning towards: LIFESTYLE | FASHION | BEAUTY
Youtube
Start posting again. It’s that simple, I know it is.
Hit 500 subscribers by New Years (Currently 292 - All of my past videos are private right now as I’m rebranding)
Meet monetization requirements (500 subscribers, 3 videos within 90 days and 3000 watch hours)
Instagram
Hit 5k followers by New Year’s Eve (Currently 4,026)
Create a solid social media strategy & content calendar
Skills
Complete my social media marketing course
Learn a new language (currently learning italian seeing that my boyfriend is an old Italian man loll)
Habits:
Drink a gallon of water daily
Read more books
Form daily routines
Hobbies:
Modeling
Build my portfolio
Book more runway stuff
Travel for modeling
Hobbies that I’d like to start:
Tennis/Golf: I would like to have a physical hobby that can also keep me in shape. And also somewhere that affluent individuals in my community enjoy hanging out.
Traveling: This one feels like a dead giveaway. Of course I want to start traveling more.
Horseback riding: I used to do it when I was younger and volunteering at a nearby stable. Learning to ride was a requirement but I didn’t stick around long enough to actually get good at it.
Cooking & Baking (It’s recently become a dream of mine to host a fancy thanksgiving dinner) My family has never really been the baking type and traditional Bahamian meals are great and all but I would like to explore the art of cooking.
I think for now this is a pretty extensive list of goals and aspirations even though in my head it feels like I’ve only scratched the surface. I’ll be going into more details on different aspects of these things here of course!

How do you like tumblr in comparison to other fandom gathering spaces?
--
Excellent question.
When I first came here from LJ, I wasn't impressed. As you can tell from my own tumblr, I'm very text-oriented when it comes to fandom platforms, and tumblr isn't really tailored to that. I'm a highly visual person, so I've ended up enjoying that aspect of tumblr over time, but it's not really what I'm looking for in terms of fandom.
For years, conventional wisdom among people nostalgic for LJ was that Tumblr denizens didn't care about meta and that meta as a fandom activity was dead—or at least, you couldn't make a name for yourself writing it.
As of these last few years, I've been more popular than I've ever been in fandom before, my fiction writing has been going better than ever before, and I've made some friends via Tumblr.
At the same time, I'm enjoying the move to Discord. It reminds me of the height of Yahoo Groups, when people posted to archives for longevity but did a lot of their socializing in private, both on locked lists and in realtime chat.
I very much disliked the LJ model of having the fic right in with the blog posts. I'm glad we've gone back to the older model of separation, at least for the polished final versions of fics. (Serialization on mailing lists was common, but people generally compiled the whole thing and posted it to sites afterwards.)
I like threaded comments and pagination, but tumblr's general lack of comment thread features has clearly not held me back.
Overall, I find tumblr very similar to other fandom platforms.
Fandom's major homes have routinely had terrible and broken features, LJ most definitely included. It's the community and how people adapt sites to something far from their intended purposes that give that continuity of feeling.
Anything that allows longform content is good. Anything that requires soundbites rather than just encouraging them culturally is hot garbage. Tiktok is obviously a cesspit, though for a thousand reasons in addition to this one. Twitter will always suck because its structure makes it easy for randos to find one, and its post length encourages a lack of nuance. People will forever be forced to rub shoulders with people they don't like and don't understand.
Tumblr lacks privacy features, but it's so hard to find fucking anything that there's less of that danger. Also, the only celebrities who actually maintain much of a presence here are weird tumblr gremlins themselves. Any space as full of starfuckers as twitter or instagram is poison.
So in the end, I've turned out to like tumblr quite a lot. The tumblr era is equaling the LJ era and the mailing list era for me. And now we pair it with AO3 instead of my past loves like MediaMiner that now look pretty crappy in comparison.

Threads, Meta's new social media app, has signed up 100 million new users less than a week since its launch last Wednesday, making it the fastest-growing app in history.
Like other social media apps, users probably barely scanned − or skipped − the terms and conditions for what information Threads can collect, share and sell about them.
Meta probably already had a lot of information about users because Threads is built upon its Instagram platform.
Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.
So how much does Threads already know about you, and what can it do with that data? Here are a few reasons to be concerned about your privacy.
What information does Threads collect?
Social media platforms monetize user data by selling relevant ads based on your location and activity, but, along with the usual app privacy requests like browsing history and location data, Threads also asks for financial information, health and fitness data, diagnostics and a nefarious-sounding "sensitive info."
Many users have voiced concern over Threads for its 14-point list of data permissions you're granting Meta to use the app. Twitter, by comparison, has 10 of these.
"I would say it's at the outer boundaries of what's usually expected, which is to be expected from its connection to Facebook, a brand long known for being especially hungry to take in user data and commercialize it in different ways," says Dan Ackerman, the new editor-in-chief at Gizmodo, a leading technology, science and culture news publication.
Android users can toggle off some of the data requests from the app, while the Apple App Store is "more take-it-or-leave it," Ackerman said.
"It also doesn't help that there's no browser-based fully functional version of Threads right now, and so you have to use the app version," he said.
Meta declined my request for comment and clarification.
Is Threads data collection worse than Twitter?
It's not necessarily malicious, suggests Tim Bajarin, a veteran technology analyst and Chairman of the San Jose, California-based market research firm Creative Strategies. "Users should know this Threads data list is pulled directly from Instagram, and it's all tied to their advertising engine when they start to monetize Threads.
"When you sign off on financial info, for example, they're not looking at your bank statements or anything," Bajarin said.
Rather, Threads collects what you're posting about and liking, where you are, and whether you bought something through a third-party site, app or game you logged into using your connected Facebook/Instagram ID (usually to avoid creating a new password altogether).
Bajarin said users are granting Meta access for future advertising.
"Meta isn't giving you a free app out of the goodness of their heart − they're there to make money, which is mostly from advertising."
Threads can collect and save this information, and the data can also be shared with third-party services that connect to your Threads profile.
Can you deactivate Threads?
Yes, but you cannot delete it without also deleting Instagram, Bajarin said.
"Meta built (Threads) on the Instagram infrastructure, on top of the program itself, and so it would be very difficult to uninstall one and not both – at least the way it's engineered today. ... They could eventually be spun out to be completely separate apps," Bajarin said.
To deactivate (but not delete) your Threads account, Adam Mosseri − the Instagram boss who now spearheads the Threads app – says you can choose to hide your Threads profile and content, delete individual Threads posts and set your profile to private, as reported by USA TODAY contributor Jennifer Jolly.
"Threads is powered by Instagram, so right now it's just one account, but we're looking into a way to delete your Threads account separately,” he posted.
Ackerman said the fact Threads is built on Instagram is actually a boon for Meta and users, "as it's especially easy to sign up for, has no wait list, and is simple to use." But "in order to delete your Threads account after you sign up, you’ll need to delete your Instagram account, as well, which reminds me of the difficulty people had deleting their Facebook accounts in the past, and how there was a lot of fine print about what data Facebook would keep unless you jumped through extra hoops."
Is the Threads app safe?
Threads is asking for more permissions than Twitter, so it boils down to your comfort level.
Though some of the privacy permissions seem ludicrous – granting Threads access to health and activity data and other "sensitive info" on a smartphone just seems wrong – no one is forcing users to install and use Threads or any other social media app that monetizes its free platform by delivering personalized, contextual ads to you.
Threads is available in more than 100 countries, but perhaps it's no surprise it isn't available in the Europe Union just yet: Meta was forced to pay more than $400 million by EU regulators for forcing users to accept targeted ads.
Personally, I am using and enjoying Threads quite a bit but wish there was more clarity about how my data is collected and used. And I'm disappointed Meta declined to clarify things.
I select "Ask not to track" on all iPhone apps to reduce an app's visibility into my web browsing activity, and I have a virtual private network (VPN) on my computer for extra privacy, but perhaps it's true there is nothing truly free in this world – it's just up to each person to decide whether the cost is worth it.

Israel has finally gone pro with their psyops, in reponse to what I can only describe as a truly incredible campaign on behalf of Hamas and the Houthis. Whoever is doing psyops for Hamas and the Houthis is amazing, I haven't seen so much processed material being reblogged by legitimate users on my dashboard since Bernie Sanders was running for president.
No surprise, then, that the article names Russia as being a force behind the anti-Israel technological front. They have reclaimed their place as the best in the psyops world.
According to eight different sources active in the worlds of intelligence, technology, online influence and public diplomacy, Israel was ill-equipped for the social media war that erupted on Black Saturday. This resulted in a "credibility crisis" that has, from Jerusalem's perspective, hindered the Israel Defense Forces' ability to act against Hamas on the actual battlefield. Though initially conceived in military terms as a solution to intelligence and psychological warfare needs, sources say the system is currently being operated by a governmental office. The reason: concerns in the defense establishment over operating a "political" technology. According to sources knowledgeable about Israel's public diplomacy efforts – "hasbara," as it is termed in Hebrew – the system is intended to counter what they and researchers termed a well-oiled online "hate machine" systematically pushing out anti-Israeli and pro-Hamas disinformation, misinformation, October 7 denialism, as well as blatantly antisemitic content. These messages were aided by technologically backed campaigns from forces in Iran and even Russia. Together, sources say, these campaigns were not only undermining Israeli efforts to report on Hamas atrocities, but also undercut the rationale behind the war and the IDF spokesperson's credibility – specifically among younger audiences in the West. Only on Monday did the Israeli Shin Bet reveal that Iran was operating at least four fake channels across Israeli social media as part of its psychological warfare and influence operations aimed at Israel. Among them was a fake online network previously revealed by Haaretz that also helped amplify Hamas videos from the October 7 attack and has since worked to incite the Israeli public on issues linked to the war. ...
The first hour of the war revealed how hopelessly unprepared Israel's defense establishment was for handling social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, and even messaging apps like Telegram, as the internet (and Israeli society) was flooded with videos filmed by Hamas documenting their own atrocities. Israeli high-tech workers and firms immediately stepped up to fill the void: As part of a volunteer "war room," technology for mapping social media platforms or even facial recognition abilities were developed not for influence but to help identify terrorists and find hostages, to name but two examples. However, as time passed and the actual war intensified, these passive abilities proved to be only half of the battle: Israel also had active needs and lacked the ability to push out information. Sources say the defense establishment – specifically the intelligence community – discovered there was a "dire national need" for influence to counter Hamas' information warfare, amid genuine widespread destruction and death in Gaza. The goal was to counter what sources said were inauthentic efforts to delegitimize Israel online: bad faith moves that researchers say have also enjoyed algorithmic support from social media platforms. Since the start of the war 100 days ago, Hamas has led a massively successful public communications campaign, which sources describe as a "PsyOp" - 0r a "psychological" influence operation. Alongside the terrorists who infiltrated Israeli communities on October 7, Hamas also brought along "reporters" to broadcast live from within the kibbutzim. Since then, semi-official communication channels – the most successful of which is Gaza Now, which has millions of subscribers on Telegram – have become the go-to source for information from Gaza, documenting the Israeli attacks from the ground. The IDF Spokesperson's Unit was found to be limited in its ability to actively counter this seemingly endless flow of visual materials being pushed out by Hamas and its proxies. Furthermore, as time passed, Israelis found that these propaganda efforts were also being amplified across social media by various pro-Palestinian users, including many who were acting in good faith.
Emphasis mine.

A Non-Technical Review of Spoutible
I have been one of a handful of people that have been beta testing Chris Bouzy's Spoutible (Http://www.Spoutible.com) for the last few days.
Before I go too deep, I'll say this: I'm still on Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and have a page on facebook. But... those are interconnected. Post one, it lands on the other. If you wanna find me, here's the obligatory linktree. I'll be adding to it, eventually.
I think 2024 is going to be the election where we have to utilize a lot of different social media platforms to get our messages out and organize.
So... This is a very non-scientific review but I'm not going anywhere. I hope to use Twitter (ugh), Mastodon (I use Ivory), Post (of course) and others. As easily as possible.
I am making a point of figuring out which of these Twitter alternatives I want to park on and use the most. I'm looking for familiarity, all the best tools of Twitter, without the "Tools on twitter." It's vile, and I tire of the pale emperor.
So I'm looking for a good service that is run by someone with good intentions. And that's what I think Spoutible is.
It has all the stuff i like on Twitter. Threads. Character limits. DMs (except they're encrypted!) Trending topics.
I'm enjoying the diversity of opinion there even in the beta. I am hoping that stays the same. I know that's part of Chris Bouzy's vision. I am hoping that I am part of a wide variety of opinions.
And yeah, that includes the right, as long as it's not the racist, trolling right wing (OR left wing). I don't need another bigot thunder dome and it seems as if that's the goal. I'm not looking for a silo but I am looking for civilization.
The site itself is beautiful and clean. Pictures load. Links load. DMs are private. You can easily follow, share or quote. Obviously, right now it has that new car smell and we'll see what happens when the flood gates open. Like other services, I (and I hope you) give it a chance to have and overcome flaws.
Tumblr media
I also hope that it allows connections between Twitter, Mastodon, Post, Instagram, Counter Social and more.
You can find all my links here: https://linktr.ee/stevemarmel
Twitter was great when it was the giant public mall we could all safely hang at but... let's be honest. That twitter is on life support. It's like we're all communicating in a war zone. It's still necessary for activism but man, it's a slog.
Will Spoutible be a tool to organize and activate in 2023 and 2024? I hope so. I believe in it. I'll ride the roller coaster with the rest of you... I think there are at least 150K waiting to get in when the doors fly open on Feb 1.
I know this isn't a TECHNICAL review. It's a personal one. I made a TON of actual friends on twitter. Real life people I'd never know were it not for the service. I miss that the most. It's what I hope for the next wave of social media. I saw "Everything Everywhere All At Once" a few days ago and resonated with the character who begged "Please Be Kind."
And fighting unkindness with kindness.
#BreachDay is coming. (Well, that's what I'm calling it). I look forward to seeing you there. I am Marmel (surprise!)
P.S. I coined "#Spoutipets" - here's Lambeau as they anxiously await the launch.

What Twitter has meant to me (and other social media musings)
Twitter is buzzing today - people leaving- threatening to leave- scared about others leaving. So, I do what I do when I want to process emotions in an analytical way. I write a blog. As I type this, I am struck by what a social media-oriented approach that is for a woman as old as I am, but I'm not ashamed to say social media has become important to me.
What I worry about today - almost mourning as if it is already gone- though it is not yet- is the platform that not only gave me the opportunity to play but almost taught me, as a mid-life adult, the importance of play. I worry that I will lose friends I care about. It is almost as if I live in a community and a natural disaster - a hurricane or tornado- is heading for my community and I fear the landscape will change. I will be displaced. I will not be able to find my friends.
Does that sound extreme? Let me give some background.
I was reluctant to join social media platforms - didn't do the AOL chat rooms in the day. I was not an early adapter. I feared social media would change the ways humans communicated in a negative way. In 2008 an old friend tracked me down to call me with news about another old friend and told me it was time to get on Facebook. I enjoyed it. I kept in touch with family and friends. I joined a scrabble group and the Bob Dylan fan club and found out it was possible to make new friends on social media. Then I broaden who I was letting onto my page and found myself moderating my content and, I still enjoy it, but not as much as I once did.
I became active on Twitter specifically because of a Facebook group I belonged to doing an Aquarius watch. More on Twitter in a minute.
I started this blog because I wanted a place to post my fiction and poetry and discovered I liked blogging and some people liked reading my blogs. I am the writer I always wanted to be - at least with an audience - if not getting paid. But I found Tumblr is a place where meanness is fostered and thrives. So I keep my Tumblr to write and post - mostly to Twitter.
Instagram is for pictures and I enjoy it very much. It's great. A picture is worth a thousand words and you see that on Instagram, but I like words and conversations very, very much. I've made no new, deeper connections on Instagram.
I've tried other sites =mostly for work- but, I don't want 100 different social media sites to keep track of and visit. I want a place where everyone, at least everyone I interact with regularly, knows my name.
So, let's talk about Twitter. I have two accounts. One PStafford3 is for my serious side. For a while, it was my only account, but for various reasons I decided I needed to differentiate between my serious side and my fun side - so I now, also, have PJSPosts. I, also, am the administrator of the account for the organization for which I work as I have been with other work positions. I once was the administrator of HearteyesForDavid fan account which I started, but in 2021 I passed it on to a younger and more capable fangirl.
This very month I graduated from a Digital Campaign / Social Media class that included various sections on Twitter. I get that, on one level, Twitter is about information gathering and information sharing, followers, influencers, and persuasion. Whatever changes come to Twitter, I will adjust as far as is needed for those purposes - learn to use it differently, moderate my content, and who I follow differently.
But it is the other thing Twitter is good for that I fear losing. I came onto Twitter as a fangirl when the X-Files was filming for its reboot and a star of that show had another show beginning. It was that simple. Within a few weeks, I had a group of four friends in a private chat who I now think of, seven years later, as among my very best friends. I have, I think, an identity within that community. I belong. I don't want to say that it's all been good. It turns out fan-based groups can be competitive over followers, petty jealousies, and misunderstandings. I don't often use the phrase In Real Life because I think social media is real life actually. If friendships are real, meaning they can bring you joy or pain, then it's real life.
But the platform Twitter has been uniquely suited to experience this "play" aspect of life in a way I don't think other platforms are. By play I mean, we create games, we debate episodes, we post "thirst" pics, we joke, and we laugh. It can get serious. There are scholars of the subject matter(s) who participate with us and philanthropists who manage fundraisers and artists whose art is worthwhile. Still, I think most people who I interact with on my PJSPosts account or in the hearteyes4DavidDuchovny community are on the platform for play and fun. One person described it today as her daily serotonin burst.
In 2020, Twitter became my lifeline. I ran a book club. We had Saturday night concert/dance parties. We posted memes about what stage of the pandemic we were in. 2020-2022 has solidified and strengthened this sense of community.
Twitter works because most accounts are public, you can search by subjects of interest, you can interact with people, you can follow, and you can have private chats. Your friendships can build and become deeper. Also, you can unfollow, block, and mute. You are the person responsible for the content you see and in charge of your own experience. Twitter has, also, been the most responsive when community concerns are raised - a fake celebrity account, violence, cruelty, hate speech, bullying- in ways that the other platforms have not been.
What Twitter most taught me ( in addition to the need for play) is the human need for community. My fear of what social media would do to the world (which obviously was warranted and is very real) was, in itself moderated, by the wonderful people I have met and interacted with on Twitter. In 2017 I wrote blogs about the fact that Twitter is, in fact, proof that mankind will seek to form communities in whatever reality they find themselves - around the campfires, in villages, towns, and cities, and on the internet. The fact that Twitter means I have friends around the globe and of different ages who all love the same thirty-year T.V. show I do is a strength of the community; not a weakness.
I guess, that this then brings me hope. We are humans. We will find other ways to connect if needed. I hope that the people who have been responsible for Twitter over the last 8 years know that the platform they created is valued beyond the money Elon Musk paid for it. I can't be anything but grateful today that it has existed.
Change is the one constant. It is, also, the thing we most fear. As I collect email addresses today "just in case". I hope the threat of a storm passes my community over and, if it doesn't, then that we find each other and rebuild elsewhere.

BLOGGING?
BLOG
Blog, or an abbreviated version of “weblog” is a term used to describe websites with an ongoing history of information. A blog is a platform where an author or a group of writers share their views and opinions on a particular subject. Blogs can also be built as online journals, where this informational website displays information in reverse chronological order, i.e. the most recent posts appear first and at the top.
The content of a blog can be anything a person wants, such as a journal, a collection of links, an informational scrapbook, or even a discussion board. There are so many things that can be done with the media blog. The appearance of the blog always changes from time to time. Today, blogs have a wide variety of items and widgets. Most blogs still include some of their standard features and structures.
Tumblr media
IS BLOGGING STILL RELEVANT IN THE AGE OF TIKTOKS AND INSTAGRAM?
As someone who enjoys reading blogs, I believe that blogging is still relevant in an age where social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram have higher engagement rates than blogs. I'm always curious about trivial things, and blogging (most of the time) gives me explanations that actually fulfill my curiosity.
True, social media platforms such as Tiktoks and Instagram have a large audience base while also being very informative, with advanced updates such as combining images, videos, text, and gifs in a single post. The community's literacy rate is declining. Reading interest wanes, and the ability to interpret sentences deteriorates. People prefer to read short news articles rather than long blog posts if they can understand the article from the title alone. While blogging has always been something that many people thought would only exist in text form, it is also evolving over time.
Tumblr is a great blogging platform for sharing images, text, videos, and even gifs. Tumblr submits responses to investigative cases (i.e., academic journals) by providing space for various types of meetings and being considered at least during the initial investigation stage. Tumblr's options for uploading text, video, photos, and audio assist different types of learners (visual, auditory, etc.) in moving more smoothly and actively through the inquiry process.
Aside from that, Google's search engine easily locates information based on good blog writing. After all, when compared to social media, SEO heavily relies on blog posts to appear in search rankings. It is uncommon for articles written on Facebook or other social media to rank first in the Google search engine. The majority of them will be from blog posts. As a result, I must restate that blogging is still relevant.

Is it 2008? I don't think I even remember what 2008 was like, not in this moment- I'd have to spend a bit of time thinking about it- putting the pieces together, letting the smell waft in and fill the room like a big baked pie. When was the last time I baked a pie ? somehow, the metaphor fails me, because I'm not sure I'd think it smelled so sweet. But, it might be worth to try on, to romanticize simply because I like to think of things beautifully.
I could go on for a while, in a waterfall stream of consciousness about the things I don't remember the last time I did or thought about.
it was later than that anyways, I looked in my email to check. This year- 8 days before my birthday, 7 days before lover's- is the 11th anniversary of the birth of a tumblr blog made in high school that was later abandoned. I was 17 years old.
feeling grateful for this time machine- it feels like stepping into a childhood territory, almost like the best place- the wooden castle playgrounds that they don't make anymore because of the splinters in small fingers. the coarse grinding splashes of feet running through a sea of insulating pebbles. at some point they changed those to woodchips- I can now finally appreciate this upgrade- more splinters but softer falls and footsteps. the smell of peat bound up in the summer warmth.
I came back here to write- tipped off by another writer who I so see myself in and admire- without the seeming sacrifice of the potential connection with collective. despite the very felt intertwining with the grand cloud of consciousness, it seems like these days you're less likely to talk to me about the pages of one of my special journals you read in our dream together. Or, no, maybe its that I'm afraid that you won't.
For some months now I found myself in a state of soft boiled discontentment with my lack of discipline. The alleged discipline lacking was my indulgence in platforms of social media- I eventually realized I was just unconsciously endlessly window-shopping at the mall I didn't know I had materialized around me. I always get really tired after being in the mall for a little while. More than tired I find myself now with such fractured attention that I have to actively choose to stay here to write instead of impulsively following my addictive urge to check the message that my doctor sent brought to my attention by my email that I checked at least once while typing. It's like that feeling of fighting to stay awake during a movie at the end of the night, but not so fond, or restful. But, in some way, I can feel myself lighting a candle, to be grateful for the experience and as a departure ceremony. I'm moving on my way.
finding Tumblr again seems to fit what I wanted so perfectly, a place to write out in the open. A platform to access from the laptop and bed. Maybe it feels a little like this place has aged gracefully enough at this point not to feel so gaudy and owns a particular note of nostalgic revival. Instagram has felt like a box getting slowly smaller and smaller, peppered with endless sprinkles of sugary attention crack draining away my intentions of seeking engagement and inspiration.
I don't feel a need to vilify technological 'advancement'. And I don't want to resist the silly allure of self righteousness of putting quotes around 'advancement' - as I enjoy typing on my disk-driver-less laptop- but I can recognize the holy loss of discipline in praying to the metropolis of instant gratification. the polarity of have and not having is a sacred space of tension in intention. The sheer charm of analog attracts me with some unspoken magic, as does the primordial tissue of the digital.
it feels special to be back here and worth some celebration.
such delicious satisfaction- the deep kind felt after a period of stark contrast.

From Cubicles to Coconut Trees : A Retiree's Journey from the USA to Malaysia
A little over a year ago, one of my good friends, Jean Hew, told me that she have been watching this very interesting expat who's posting about his life on YouTube and he happens to be showcasing some houses around my area. Which means, he lives just nearby!
I checked out his videos and his voice is angelic, it's super calming like Frederic Chopin's Andante Cantabile. I emailed him, and introduced myself, the formal and traditional way, as he's not very active on Instagram back then and we quickly became good friends, and neighbors since he just lives across the street.
In this episode of In The Spotlight, I'm truly honored to be featuring my very good friend Andrew Taylor (  @andrewtaylor4558  ) to share with us his story and experiences of navigating and living in Malaysia as an American Expat, and how social media, particularly YouTube, have changed his life for the better. Do check out his YouTube Channel too. It's super interesting. I bet you'll be hooked!
Be sure to like, comment, and most importantly share if you find this podcast useful. Thank you very much and advance and Enjoy the Show!

― un:mysterious-ing myself
This year, one of the things I set myself for is becoming mysterious in social media. I noticed how much activity I make on Instagram, and I basically look like an open book, but only until the synopsis. You know, details enough to give you an overview of the book, but not as detailed and thorough to know every bit of it. Me? From being a big sharer of animals and funny reels? From being a huge fan of posting thoughts in various languages? From being an expressive anime and mobage lover? Suddenly will turn into a mysterious one, close to absolutely not posting anything?
I thought it was impossible, but I did. At least for four months. However, I started becoming active again when I created a new account and have just a few close and years-known colleagues and peers as followers. Then, I realized, it wasn't really my intention to be mysterious or post nothing on my other social media account — that I was forced to.
From there on, I remembered things that hurt me, a lot, and made me feel unsafe expressing myself in my own social media space prior to me deciding to go on a social media silence. Isn't it ironic and a bit sad how I, myself, felt that way on my own platform? I never really thought I would experience that. But if there is one thing that that experience has taught me, it is to be cautious of the people you let into your life. That some, even if the one whom you have made innumerable memories with, can induce your pain. And the most agonizing part is that it can come from the people whom you trusted the most. That the one who'll do you badly is not an enemy but a so-called friend.
The reason? Maybe it will come as too shallow for some, but to me, that is the world. Imagine, having people around you saying not-so-good things to those you love, enjoy, and are passionate about. Imagine, you're not doing anything wrong nor hurting other people by sharing the things you like, but someone keeps an eye on it and is ready to shoot the fun any minute?
The moment you notice someone pulling you down and discouraging you from doing the things your heart is beating, don't hesitate to cut the line that connects the both of you or seek ways to freely be yourself.
For your safety. For your peace of mind. For your happiness.
By choosing my happiness, I have now un-mysterious-ed the real me. I have decided to be myself but now, in the right crowd.

ALL ABOUT MYSELF/ AND MY HOBBIES IN LIFE: Hobbies are an important part of life because they provide us a sense of purpose and fulfillment. My hobbies have always been a big part of my life, and they've helped me release tension and get away from the daily grind. Hi good day everyone I am Grishamille S Teves, a grade 12 STEM student at Cansojong National High School. I am a graduating student, and my hobbies are doing some work stuff that I really like especially surfing on social media. The most used platform is Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube. Because through this I can access to my favorite artist especially by logging in to Weverse. Also, my favorite hobby is Watching KDrama, fangirling to my favorite bands Like BTS, and reading some stories on Wattpad. As a teenager I really wanted to see in person my idols in real life, I always dream to be part of their concert. Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. I've always been a voracious reader who enjoys losing myself in a good book. Reading allows me to escape reality, and I may become lost in the characters and storylines. I appreciate reading books that inspire and teach me, whether they be fiction or nonfiction. Last but not least, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. Spending time with loved ones, whether watching a movie or playing board games, is one of my favorite ways to unwind and relax. It's crucial to maintain a healthy work-life balance by engaging in personal interests and social activities, and I feel that spending time with others is a terrific way to do so.Finally, hobbies are a vital aspect of life, and my particular interests have brought me a lot of joy and contentment. Reading, writing, hiking, and spending time with family and friends have all aided in my personal development and enjoyment. I encourage everyone to choose hobbies they enjoy and incorporate them into their daily lives.

i realised recently (as in, thursday or friday but i can't remember which) that i've been spending inordinate amounts of my time each day just mindlessly scrolling through reddit. and i think that the reason it took so long for me to realise what was happening was that it's just become another compulsion. i open reddit, i read each post i see, if it's interesting i open the comments and almost force myself to view the thoughts and opinions others have shared—even though i often don't actually care, or even very much do not want to read them. and i just do that for literal hours, at least three or four times a day.
i'm not sure where i'm going with this. i think i just felt...something...at having seen that you seem to be doing something similar (though i'll admit i'm extrapolating a fair amount of information from what you shared; a surface level, it simply reminded me of this recent realisation). i think it frightened me a bit because i saw it just as i was falling asleep (i opened tumblr for some reason that i can't remember now) and it seemed like some sort of set up. but i think it also felt comforting? despite the fact that if your feelings on this habit are at all similar to my own, you're probably just resigned to the fact that you keep doing it at this point. or maybe you enjoy it, idk. i don't know your mind.
i'm rambling. sorry. whatever. i'm just glad (and maybe a little wigged out) that i saw your post about it. and...i hope that we're both able to break this habit and find a better use of time because honestly i know it's not doing my mental state any favours, and i imagine it's probably not doing any for yours (though if i'm wrong you should definitely keep doing it. or don't. i'm not your boss).
anyway, there wasn't really a point to this ask. i just felt like sharing. hope it hasn't come off as annoying or rude. (also sorry you're going through it right now, all reddit browsing aside. hope things get better for you, or at least more tolerable.)
Tumblr media
thank you for sharing :). I think it is probably a common issue. it's not much different than doing the same with any social media platform. something in my brain finds it a bit more forgivable because I'm reading words as opposed to image or video (although it's not like I use instagram, tiktok, etc anyways). but each comment ends very quickly (depending on the sub) and I can skip over stuff if I don't feel like reading it, so it's "easier" than actually reading, like, a book or something, which I don't think is good. I don't view it as a good use of my time. most of it does not really make me think about anything at all (again, depending on the sub). a large amount of reddit comments say basically nothing, or otherwise repeat what most everyone else is already saying, as much as possible the reason for the "thousands of words" comment is that I find it sort of baffling I can expend the mental energy to read that much but it's all going towards something with hardly any nutritional value. it's like chewing gum. engaging in the act of reading without actually receiving any information. sometimes it's cool because I find little communities I wouldn't have otherwise known about but maybe 80% of the time I'm just looking at empty bullshit that means nothing to me (and another fraction I'm looking at bullshit that probably actively harms me). I don't place the blame on reddit itself so much because I know if it wasn't this it'd be some other mind-numbing thing... think I need to get some kind of shock collar hope you can figure something out yourself but to be h I think trying to replace distractions with distractions is a vain pursuit I need to like, get up in the brainworks with a wrench and bang that shit out

Saturday Morning Coffee
Tumblr media
The Takeout: ”Social media rumors don’t always prove to be true, but in the case of the Choco Taco, this one is sadly based in fact. RIP, Choco Taco, 1984-2022.”
This clearly the biggest, most important, news of the week. The Choco Taco wasn’t exactly a great treat but it wasn’t the worst.
I’m fine losing it as long at the It’s-it is never discontinued.
The Verge: ”Sounding like an exhausted parent, Mosseri agreed that Instagram’s new feed sucked and its recommendations might be bad and then told us it wasn’t going to get better. Instagram no longer cares about photos.”
I don’t have a lot of pity for Instagram. Unfortunately Facebook took a beloved application and platform and turned it into an ad platform. It’s not that businesses are bad for using it, why not use it? It’s bad because all I cared about was posting pictures and looking at my friends pictures.
There are much better alternatives today.
If you spent enough years using A/B tests to chase every little bump in engagement without any basis or logic behind what you’re changing or why, eventually people will find something else they like better for reasons you can’t understand. That’s the lesson of Instagram.
— Ken Kocienda (@kocienda) July 26, 2022
Do you want a chronological feed? No ads? No algorithms? Never having anything in your feed you didn’t put there? No celebrities selling you crypto nonsense? High quality photos with P3 color support? No public counts anywhere? Just photos? Only photos? You’ll love Glass.
— Glass (@tryglass) July 26, 2022
Glass is a wonderful alternative to Instagram and they don’t make you the product. The app just gets out of the way so you can see your feed of beautiful pictures. No ads, none of that Instagram garbage.
How do they manage to do it? By using an idea from long ago. They charge you $29.99US a year to use the platform and support running their business. Novel, right?
Oh, almost forgot, they have an iPad App and you can view pictures on the web without annoying prompts asking you to log in to view more photos. Imagine that, they embrace the open web.
Like most social networks I’m Fahrni on Glass.
Charles Chen: ”Whereas in the .NET ecosystem, Microsoft provides a rich set of professionally developed and curated first party libraries for many, many scenarios, JavaScript has no such governance.”
Look, I’m an old Microsoft Employee, via the Visio acquisition, and spent 20-years of my career building C++/Win32 applications. I still love using Windows and love Microsoft’s commitment to supporting old API’s, but .Net is amazing, especially when combined with C#.
I haven’t written any modern backend C# but I did enjoy the bit of time I spent developing backend code with it. It’s a really great platform if you’d like to be extremely productive.
I’d imagine that extends to the client side as well. My desire to write a cross platform Stream is dwindling. I believe I’ll do the Windows version in C#/.Net.
Robert Reich: ”Progressive states are becoming more progressive; regressive states, more regressive. As the states move to the left or right, state legislatures are becoming more active and important, while what happens in Washington is growing less so.”
This is a good read and worth a few minutes of your time.
The closing question is something I think about quite often.
The Verge: ”For Zuckerberg, the company he founded 18 years ago was facing existential threats on multiple fronts. Both Facebook and Instagram were being rearchitected to compete with TikTok. Apple’s iOS privacy settings had disrupted the company’s once-stable ad business, costing it billions in revenue. Meanwhile, Zuckerberg’s bet on the metaverse was a money pit that he didn’t see turning a profit until at least the end of the decade.”
I think we all knew Apple’s new privacy settings would put a dent in their earnings. Couple that with their constant morphing of their platforms; Facebook and Instagram, and their moonshot to be the leader in the Metaverse and it’s a perfect storm of misery. 🍿
