I always weirdly enjoy a few gameplay sessions with no mods or CC post update. I made this guy, Kevin Jamal, who is a stand up comedian and veterinarian. He lives in Brindleton Bay and immediately adopted this stray dog, Elliot.

End of the Decade Challenge!

I just finished off the Decade challenge with Michael!

He was born in the late 1960s and the challenge ended at the end of the 2010s, so he never quite reached the elder stage!

Here is him and his husband, Simon, on their wedding day

And for the rest of his story/photos look under the cut!

Michael’s dad died during the Vietnam War so he was raised by his mother. But honestly, he didn’t really care about that. He had a great time as a kid and a teen.

Here he is as a teen in the 70s

And a little later in the 80s (still a teen)

He had a big group of friends, who he loved to hang out at the mall with and play arcade games.

When he became a young adult he realized he had feelings for one of his old school friends (Glenn)

And they moved to the Big City together after he graduated Uni

They dated until a little bit into the 90s....Michael was uhhhh not a great boyfriend. Or roommate. He’s a huge slob and eventually Glenn and Michael broke up over it.

But! He moved in with some friends from Uni (Raymond and Jamal) and things were going great. Raymond loved cooking and made huge meals every day, which was great because both Jamal and Michael refused to cook ever. They all loved Video Games and basically goofed off every day.

He “dated” (unofficially) this guy Simon for a bit. Michael met him back in Uni when Simon was dating one of Michael’s roommates. Which was honestly really cute? Michael hadn’t met any other sims that he knew were gay up until that point (besides Glenn of course). Anyways, they bumped into each other again at a gay bar in the city and hit it off.

Simon and Michael both wanted kids, and they had some traits that balanced out. I was optimistic but... things with them fizzled out and he started dating Jamal.

Michael and Jamal moved to Del Solo Valley together in the 2000s. Michael got a big promotion and wanted to buy a house, and Jamal wanted to break into show biz.

When Michael’s mom died, there was no one left to watch out for his teen cousin Christen (she had been living with Michael’s mom after both her parents died). So Michael moved back into his old house to become her guardian.

Here they all are chilling on the couch.

And here is just Jamal and Michael cuddling just because. I wanted them to be end game so bad :(

Sadly....Jamal and Michael didn’t work out. Michael wanted kids, Jamal didn’t. Michael stopped rolling wants to hang out with Jamal, and started wanting to hang out with Simon again. This led to Michael eventually cheating. Jamal and Michael got into a huge fight, and Michael, despite being the instigator, ended up with a festering grudge. Pure asshole behavior.

Jamal and Michael ended things, Jamal was surprisingly cool about it, and the two remained friends.

In the end Michael had a cute little family. He and Christen remained close. She often brings her husband and kids over to hang out with Michael and Simon. They’re all friends.

Also! Michael and Simon adopted a little girl named Monica. They’re both very excited to be dads.

And that’s the end of the challenge! I had a whole lot of fun with this one, especially with how the feeling of each heir’s story changed depending on what decades they lived through. Michael’s hunt to find “The One” was a nice break from how fast everyone else got married, even if I did end up getting way more attached to Glenn and Jamal than Simon.

I’ll probably post a couple more photo collections comparing the heirs and whatnot, but yeah, that’s all from this family!

The Boys Who Suffered

The big thing about The Knowing is The Suffering. There is a melancholy that seeps into you and makes you think you aren't enough. These characters are hard to watch. I know you asked about shows, but I'm doing some movies as well because I've been thinking about genre history lately. For this it's about whether or not the quiet sadness in me connected to the quiet sadness I perceived in a character in this show.

Moonlight (2016)

He is the saddest boy in my heart. This is the moment that breaks him forever.

For The Boys

Jamal, Syed, and Anthony have suffered for being who they are, and they are hurting. They cling to each other and it's often too hard.

Weekend (2011)

This man is so lonely even if people love him. I feel melancholy for days any time I watch this film.

Big Eden (2000)

I don't know who taught him shame, but there's this sense of surrender in Henry that has haunted me for fifteen years.

A Single Man (2009)

Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci play some of the saddest gay men who have ever existed. This entire project is about grief.

5 royal simblrs I love

There are, of course, WAY more than 5 amazing royal simblrs out there, but I wanted to take a moment to shout out just a few people in my community!

@nexility-sims: the most unique royal simblr on the block

N. is, of course, a very dear friend of mine and I MAY be accused of bios in the matter, but her story is simply the best one out there. In a community prone to retreading the same material over and over again, she is doing something wholly different and wholly original by choosing to focus on a non-western, non-European culture. She's an incredibly engaging writer and the only person whose world-building posts I come back to and read again and again. She puts an incredible level of care into everything she does, and I am so PROUD to be her friend and coexist in the same creative spaces with her.

@funkyllama: colorful, creative sims

One thing I love about Gracie's story is the way that she steps outside of the narrow Royal Simblr box. Her characters (my beloved Elle especially!) have unique, quirky styles and dress in fabulous colors and patterns that you just don't see much of on Simblr. She's coming to the end of one story and beginning to gear up for the sequel, so now is a good time to jump in and start reading.

@wessexroyalfamily: complex family drama, just getting into gear

This is a relatively new story, but it already has a fully formed setting with lots of complex family drama. This story is full of great little world-building details and narrative flourishes, and shit is really starting to pop off. Now is your chance to get in on the ground floor and start reading a wonderful story before it gets huge, so you can say you were there way back when.

@housekonig: thoughtful, fascinating royal intrigue

I know firsthand just how much effort and thought Jamal puts into every single one of his posts. His builds are amazing and all of his posts are so polished and full of great details. He's got more passion for worldbuilding in his little finger than I do in my entire body and his posts definitely reflect that effort and attention to detail!

@the-lancasters: the most royal royal story out there

Jennifer's story has been one of my favorites for a long time, simply because she includes so many little details about the working lives of senior royals that a lot of stories (mine included!) gloss over. She has a deep knowledge of how royal families actually function and works that knowledge into her story. My favorite arc in her story (other than her current one, which happens to feature one of my characters in a starring role!) is definitely Marcus and Sarah's romance, which turns the royal setting on its head and focuses almost entirely on the private secretaries instead of the royals themselves.

They’re both in the same category (Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming) and they’re for Jamal Sim’s choreography in New Cool, Hand Jive, and The Boom and Jeffrey Mortensen and Louise Hradsky’s choreography in High Rollin’, Pulling Strings, and Hit Me Again (literally every number in episode 7 y’all!)

If they win this could mean so much in terms of a season 2, and even being nominated might get it out on a streaming service again!
