Hey look it's me reminding everybody you can get on canopy.
Wait I mean that's not me. I'm not Gail Anne Hurd.
But I'm sharing the information that she is sharing, which I have shared before but I feel like not enough people know.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Leverage Redemption are now available on Kanopy: https://www.kanopy.com/product/leverage-redemption
Has anyone written some good commentary about how two huge corporate overlords (Amazon and Overdrive) are funding this series? It makes me shake my head, laugh nervously, and doubt reality.

Kanopy is great, not only because it’s an easy to use library app for streaming film & tv that doesn’t charge you and arm and a leg, but also because it has the kind of extensive catalog and variety we all wished the major streaming sites did. Where else can I watch Past Lives AND Attack of the Crab Monsters?

'Under the Skin' – passing for human on Max
Under the Skin (2014) isn’t a film makes things easy for the viewer. The experience is not unlike that which I suppose its unnamed protagonist, an alien reborn in the body of a human host (Scarlett Johansson), goes through as it (she?) settles in to its new body and the emotions and impulses surging through it that collide with its mission. That mission has something to do with driving around…

The Passion of Joan of Arc
Not sure what to even say, but I beg anyone who hasn’t to make time to experience this film. I knew right from the first moments that I was in for something special, and even then it manage to surprise me with its beautiful dread.
Dreyer’s choice to focus on the human faces are what makes this film especially impactful. You go through every emotion alongside Joan thanks to both the framing of each shot, as well as the incredible acting from Maria Falconetti. Just a stunning film in every way.
I will say this is probably the best example of how timeless silent films can be too. I think so often people will have negative opinions on silent films just because of the nature of it, so to that I’d just recommend giving this a watch. At least I was left thinking about it for weeks after watching before I can manage to write up this little bit.

This is streaming on Kanopy right now, and as you may know Kanopy is free with a participating library card.
It features not only Ursula, but everyone's favorite Tumblr weird-guy-that-lives-up-the-road-but-has-great-stories, @neil-gaiman - so you know it's good.
Also - her living in Oregon means a lot of lovely Oregon scenery. Ursula K. Le Guin sitting on the sand at Cannon Beach, Haystack Rock in the distance. Lovely.
This - walking on the beach at sunset, flipping a bull whip of kelp, the same way I did as a kid. That got me a bit emotional to be honest.

I seem to be in a documentary film viewing mood today. This afternoon after taking a little time to look around for something I wanted to watch, I continued my 12 hour #DirectedbyWomen #FilmFeast by streaming Blueberry Soup: The Icelandic "People's Movement" (2015) directed by Eileen Jerrett on Kanopy.
Find out more about the film on Wilma's Wish Productions website...
"Blueberry Soup is an extraordinary documentary at the epicenter of one of this centuries most exciting movements:
"The Icelandic People's Movement"
The film is a deeply touching account of an empowered nation re-envisioning democracy through the drafting of its constitution."

I wondered why this film from 1987 was on Kanopy, but I watched it for 80’s beach culture nostalgia.
I forgot that at the end of the day, it’s a movie about caring about your students and a precursor to the world of high-stakes testing. Even if the Mark Harmon character makes some bad choices.

I really want to watch some Mexican cinema. I’ve watched French, Japanese, German, Korean, British, and a bunch of others. But never Mexican.
When my room is fixed, I’m going to watch tons of Mexican Films on Kanopy.
