So a few months back, Zephrine had a brief tryst with a demi-god representative of Pelor aka the Sunfire Queen, and last session we came across a statue of her eliciting this comment from @bioticplaneswalker, which has been haunting me ever since.
But like, in a good way. A funny way.

Magic Monday
Meet Abasi, a khenra warrior from Amonkeht
On Amonkhet, khenra are typically born as twins. Abasi was presumed to have absorbed his twin in the womb and was born an only child. He was deemed a true warrior for defeating his twin in the womb.
As most inhabitants of Amonkhet before the Hours, Abasi was utterly devoted to the Trials. He thought of nothing but training, partaking in the Trials to prove his worthiness, and then dying at the hands of his god. Then came the Hours. All Abasi had learned over the years ended up being a lie. The god pharaoh came to destroy and reap his reward. The shock ignited Abasi’s spark and he planeswalked away for the first time.
Without the gods to devote his time and energy to, Abasi realized he had missed out on a lot. He finally took the time to indulge in pastimes he never dreamed of, ate too much, slept too much, everything in excess. Money was a concept he never heard of and quickly desired it. He took on odd jobs as hired muscle. Never once has Abasi considered returning home to Amonkhet. He wants to see what the multiverse has in store for him

DNDtober Day 1: Khenra Warlock
so i wanted to do something for an october art challenge but i didn't like any of the prompt lists i was finding...so instead i've decided to start a project i've wanted to do for a while! I'm gonna make a randomized DND character every day, including a character sheet, which I’ll make available for people to use!
For more details on that, check out this link.
Anyway! For day one, I made some khenra warlocks! Since khenra always come in twins, I decided to make two of them. Each has made a pact with a different kind of genie, one a marid, and one an efreeti. Wonder what kind of backstory they would have that led to that!

Khenra
Plane Shift: Amonkhet
The khenra of Amonkhet are tall and lean, with graceful bodies and heads that strongly resemble jackals. Their snouts are long and sharp, and their angular ears rise straight above their heads. Their bodies are covered in dark, sleek hair that ranges from the brown of the desert sands to ebony black. Despite their sharp teeth, they consider biting to be an uncouth and unworthy combat tactic.
Nearly every khenra is born a fraternal or identical twin, and a pair of khenra twins forms an extremely close emotional bond unknown to most other residents of Amonkhet. The death of one twin in training or the trials causes a tremendous shock to the survivor, who typically grows more aggressive and foolhardy in battle. The rare khenra who are born without twins are believed to have killed their siblings in the womb, and are thus viewed as natural-born initiates, sure to achieve a glorified death in the Trial of Zeal.
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Strength score increases by 1.
Age. Khenra mature quickly, reaching adulthood in their early teens. Khenra initiates are usually the youngest in a crop, completing the trials by their late teens. Even without a violent death, they rarely live past 60.
Alignment. Most khenra lean toward chaotic alignments. They have no particular inclination toward good or evil.
Size. Khenra have similar builds to humans. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 35 feet.
Khenra Weapon Training. You have proficiency with the khopesh, spear, and javelin.
Khenra Twins. If your twin is alive and you can see your twin, whenever you roll a 1 on an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll. If your twin is dead (or if you were born without a twin), you can’t be frightened.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Khenra.

Note
Hey Mark, on the topic of players being worried about creature types losing their distinctiveness by being added in with the broader type rather than a specific race (ex. Viashino(Lizard) or Naga(Snake)), I looked to see how many are already currently templated this way and there are ALOT more than I realized.
Archaic (Avatar), Aven (Bird), Leonin (Cat), Malamet (Cat), Nishoba (Cat Beast), Daemogoth (Demon), Ainok (Dog), Flamekin (Elemental), Loxodon (Elephant), Mycoid (Fungus), Thallid (Fungus), Akki (Goblin), Boggart (Goblin), Mogg (Goblin), Redcaps (Goblin), Eumidian (Insect), Kraul (Insect), Nantuko (Insect), Khenra (Jackal), Kitsune (Fox), Merrow (Merfolk), Selkie (Merfolk), Triton (Merfolk), Onakke (Ogre), Caryatid (Plant), Nezume (Rat), Rhox (Rhino), Amphin (Salamander), Orochi (Snake), Kami (Spirit), Drogskol (Spirit), Eidolon (Spirit), Ent (LoTR) (Treefolk), Trow (Troll), Kappa (Turtle), Liche (Zombie), Eternal (Zombie), Draugr (Zombie), Nim (Zombie), Skaab (Zombie)
Yep. Most of the ones that didn't do it entered the game before we made this the default.

Alright so I'm up too late and the autism is flowing hard let's find out what the wordiest token is in mtg
During an insomnia fueled research session, I went through every creature token on scryfall and grabbed the ones that jumped out at me for wordiness. For the purposes of this madness, reminder text does not count, power/toughness text is one word when it is in the effect text, tap and mana symbols are not words, and hyphenated words count as several words. Conveniently, I ended up with exactly ten tokens. Let's run them down.
10th & 9th: Dragon Egg & Earthshaker Khenra - 23 words
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bottom of our loquacious barrel comes with these two. At 23 words each they're nothing to sneeze at, even if Khenra cheats by being an eternalized version of an existing card. The Egg hails from Nesting Dragon, a popular choice in dragons-matter decks wherever they may be found.
8th: Angel of Sanctions - 24 words
Tumblr media
Just barely ahead is another Amonkhet token. This time the culprit is Embalm, which like Eternalize amounts to a sort of Flashback for creatures. This ability couldn't find a place outside of Nicol Bolas' schemes on the ancient Egypt-styled plane, likely saving the token printer a not-insigificant amount of black ink.
7th: Heart-Piercer Manticore - 28 words
Tumblr media
Listen, there's not that much to say about these niche tokens printed to work with two keywords from a single block six years ago. It gets wordy because the token inherits the entire text of the creature minus Embalm or Eternalize itself. Let's move swiftly along.
6th, 5th & 4th: Elemental, Osgood, Operation Double & Fish- 29 words
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ah yes, here's something I can work with. The Elemental, understandably, is created by Rekindling Phoenix from Rivals of Ixalan. Protect the token until your turn comes round, and your phoenix is reborn. How flavorful. Osgood, however, steps into cheating territory by being a nigh-exact copy of a normal creature that simply copies itself on etb. At least the scarf is snazzy. What really steals the show for me is the Fish token created by the death trigger of Reef Worm. In a delightful depiction of the food chain (which ironically does not work at all with the card Food Chain), the worn is eaten by the fish, the Fish by the whale, and the whale by the kraken. Each card save for the last depicts the oncoming feaster in the background of its art, whereas the Kraken had to also be used by a Kiora planeswalker released alongside it in Masters 25.
3rd & 2nd: Elemental & Temet, Vizier of Naktamun - 31 words
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This Elemental hails from Innistrad: Midnight Hunt, created by the Sorcery Sieze the Storm. A single copy of the spell got you two of these electrifying friends thanks to Flashback, and with a properly built spellslinger deck, could make them a real game-ender. Temmet is another Embalm token, this time with the added curiosity that his typeline was so crowded his legendary status was evicted to the rules text, earning him a respectable tie for second.
1st: Vizier of Many Faces - 37 words
Tumblr media
As we began, so shall we find the end of our journey with Amonkhet. Oddly enough, the three separate alterations to the copied creature only apply while the Vizier is embalmed, otherwise she's a slightly upcosted Clone. It may be unsatisfying to discover that the culprit behind the wordiest token is the result of the crossing between the famously clunky clone effect and a one off mechanic from 2017, but the knowledge is its own reward, and hey, it killed two hours of a likely sleepless night.
