“How do you do,” said Lord Kristopher politely.

“He is here to recruit squires for the crusades. It goes without saying that this is a noble and grand opportunity that all of you should be eager to undertake - the chance to fight for God, King, country and to lift yourselves from your lowly births into a higher profession of serving the great Knights of the realm,” Brother Francis explained proudly.

“That is very kind of Brother Francis to say, and in many ways he is right,” continued Lord Kristopher, “But it is important that you enter into service willingly. It is hard work and there is a risk of death. I want you to understand that this is not some idealistic mission worthy of the Legends of King Arthur. This is war.”

“Of course, of course,” agreed Brother Francis, “But I have no doubt these boys will be more than willing. Take my charge, Alwin, for instance. Alwin, boy, are you not eager to take up Lord Kristopher’s offer?”

“I... um...well...” Alwin stuttered.

“It appears not, Brother Francis,” Lord Kristopher remarked. 

Irritated, Brother Francis shifted his attention to Odi, “Come, Odi, what say you?”

“I’m sorry Brother Francis, but I need to stay here. My sister is in Brindleton and-”

“Very good, very good,” Brother Francis said impatiently, cutting him off. “William? Roger? Surely one of you will make us all proud?”

Summary: For years Ubbe has been promised to the same Saxon girl from his childhood, Avery. He is reluctantly waiting for the day when he will marry Avery, until then the gods will find their entertainment by placing the wilding Saxon, Kara, before him. She is unlike any he has met before, drawn to her though she does not want his help. She is determined to meet her lover, Ceol, on the coast of England before the year ends. Unwillingly she travels with Ubbe and his brother, Hvitserk, in a journey that may just leave them all a little mad.

Hvitserk wasn’t particularly stealthy. He never had been. In Norway, only eight years old, they had snuck into the kitchen for a treat. Ubbe's fingers had only just slid over the sweet roll when Hvitserk blurted out, “I want the biggest one,” blundering their pilfering. Many years later - after Frankia, their father missing - they rummaged through his belongings to find his sword. It was still brilliant, gleaming, though it hadn’t been polished for some time and yet the edges were still sharp, and the runes so delicately carved into the blade that Ubbe was sure that dwarves must have pounded the blade to submission. He was nervous to touch it. Not Hvitserk though, he grabbed the hilt giving it one wide swoop through the air only for it to clatter loudly to the ground.

Oh, how fast they had run. 

Hunting was another matter. In the early years, when Aslaug let them venture out with Floki, Hvitserk was a never ending stream of thoughts, unconsciously words tumbled off his tongue. He talked of the bugs, the mud, the girls who giggled when he passed by, the boys who wanted to wrestle and those who didn’t. He had a comment for everything until Floki’s arrow flew through the air, sinking into the flesh of a stag. With a heavy thud it fell to the ground. 

“How did you do that?” Hvitserk had demanded as he bounded up to the carcass. 

“If you are quiet, I will show you next time,” Floki said. Three more hunts passed by before Hvitserk quieted, missing the subtle way the leaves crunched under foot or the distinct smell of a stag in rut. Ubbe had his first kill. Hvitserk, not wanting to be left behind, quieted. 

On most days.

In England, years passed, with land of their own, granted by King Alfred, Hvitserk still barged through life as if a reincarnation of a giant. So Ubbe was surprised to see his brother make a slip on the girl. 

She was a lively little thing, hard to ignore, even in her drab wool dress and dower face. She scratched at the stays of her bodice, a strange twitch, as if she had never had such a rough fabric grace her presence. The dress clung to her figure, as if it wasn’t made for her - too tight in some places, drowning her in others. It enunciated her hips and, if Ubbe let his eyes travel, the swell of her breasts. It was what had drawn Hvitserk in initially, ever so weak to the sweet curves of any woman. Ubbe watched from his seat on an empty barrel, chewing the last bites of an apple as Hvitserk prowled around the woman. 

She was causing a ruckus, with her loud demanding tone it was hard not to be drawn to her. Other onlookers watched with interest. This was probably the most exciting thing to happen in the tiny village since the feast of Saint Mellitus, when a peasant by the name of Alwin stumbled up and down the road drunkenly singing a nursery rhyme for all to hear. Ubbe would know, he had heard a rendition of this story at least three different times since his arrival that morning. 

She hadn’t been particularly hard to stalk, having been so self involved in the argument with the farmer that she hadn’t even noticed his brother’s presence until it was too late. Her hand was raised in the air, seemingly ready to strike the poor farmer, when Hvtiserk snatched at her wrist. Ubbe frowned at the delighted look of glee curling on Hvitserk’s mouth as the girl struggled. He sighed heavily, not interested in getting involved with the affairs of the village. He was there to collect the taxes owed to the king and move on. 

He clicked his tongue in dissent as he approached Hvitserk. His brother’s mouth only pulled wider in humor at the sight of him. 

“What’s this?” Ubbe asked with a flick of his chin in the girl’s direction.

After everything that happened early in Ratha's life he now has some pretty bad separation anxiety. Hell he probably also has really bad nightmares so the rider needs to stay close to be able to like wake him up from them or to calm him down. So he doesn't even sleep at the stables as of now thanks to just being so terrified to not be with the rider (or the rider just sleeps at the stables with him, your call which it is)

So could we get some headcannons on the guys reacting to and dealing with how attentive the rider is with Ratha? Cause some would definitely be more understanding and maybe even attempt to help deal with the trauma while some more.. Guilty due to their part in the trauma..

The Boys (Kyle, Reverto, Cheval, and Alwin) Deal with you Being so Attentive to Ratha

Kyle

-Of course, Kyle would feel the guiltiest for Ratha’s behavior due to the fact that he hunted him down and pointed a literal bow in his face. To watch the King of the Skies go into a panic attack when you aren’t around, well, it honestly makes him physical hurt. Mostly because he knew he was the most to blame.

-Kyle learns to keep his mouth shut when it comes to you taking care of Ratha. He doesn’t need his input to make things any worse. Plus, he knows he’s the person with the least amount of say when it comes to how you handle Ratha. So, if you have to go and sleep in the stables because Ratha had a nightmare, he doesn’t complain. In fact, to try and ease the rathalos, Kyle tries to stay away from him.

-You understand how Kyle is feeling, but you also want him to stop feeling guilty (even though you know he is around 80% responsible for your monstie’s trauma). While Ratha's separation anxiety, you try to include having Kyle around you to improve their relationship. It’s a rather tough journey, but you hope to ease Ratha’s fears through this process.

Reverto

-Reverto would feel a bit guilty as well when he sees how bad Ratha is when he’s not around you. The hunter knows he's is partly to blame for the trauma of your monstie. However, the whole situation went against Reverto's persona. He would never want to take away someone's monstie, but he had to follow orders. All in all, that makes him feel more guilty.

-Unlike Kyle, Reverto tries to fix what he believes is his mistake. He wants to help you help Ratha, whether that means taking care of your other monsties for you or trying to improve Ratha's confidence. He also doesn't say anything if you have to being Ratha inside your house to sleep beside you. He just wants your monstie to be his old self again.

-Reverto's assistance makes you smile because you know this is probably the hardest, he's ever worked at something. Also, you know he likes Ratha because he stormed the tower with you to save him. If anything, his actions make you feel sorry for him when they fail to work. Ratha needs to be by your side, and nothing will ever change that.

Cheval

-Probably one of the most understanding because he's a rider who has a monstie with her own trauma. Now, Rathi is older and not as scarred as Ratha, but Cheval still understands the care aspect of a traumatized monstie. He knows what needs to be done in order to keep them comfortable, so he respects your decision to stay beside Ratha, who needs to be by your side.

-It does sadden him to see Ratha so scared because Ratha seemed so strong when Cheval fought beside him. I guess even monsties have a grace period when it comes to trauma. On the bright side, Ratha feels comfortable with Cheval and Rathi as well. So, when you are all together, Ratha feels at his best. Cheval also respects the fact that you can’t always do things because you need to be near Ratha.

-You have the most thanks to Cheval, who’s been so supportive of Ratha’s condition. He’s even offered to have Rathi stay with the two of you because she can sympathize with Ratha’s pain. He will gladly put things aside if there’s something you need because Ratha will panic if you leave. Also, you are grateful that he will bring you something like a blanket if you plan to sleep in the stables with your monstie.

Alwin

-Talk about another supportive man when it comes to you and Ratha. Alwin is one of the few faces that Ratha remembers with kindness. The wyverian also knows all about Ratha’s trauma because he’s seen how he gets when you’re not around. This leaves Alwin to try and calm the rathalos down, which just barely works because Ratha does trust Alwin, but not as much as you.

-The wyverian has never seen a monstie that has gone through as much as Ratha. Alwin tries to understand why you do some of the things you do, like sleeping with the rathalos, but it’s hard for him to grasp that. Nevertheless, he trusts you to do the things you need to do in order to keep Ratha safe. If he has to, he will leave Shaulk around to be a stable monstie if you need some support. That, or he will volunteer himself to be around Ratha.

-Alwin’s confused yet constant support leaves you feeling very grateful. The wyverian has even tried to mix up different herbal remedies to calm Ratha’s nerves and help him sleep better. Although, Alwin understands that nothing can replace you in your monstie’s eyes. So, he just does what he can to ensure that Ratha can be around you as much as possible, even if it means putting added weight on his shoulders.

Ray of Hope (part 2)

          This story will include a character from another Capcom game, a coach from Just Dance 2021 and an Original Character of mine.

Ray of Hope (part 1)

“Don’t worry. We’ll do everything we can to help you. You can trust us...”

This was the last thing Zellard heard before losing consciousness, though he didn’t who that voice belongs to.

Locksin and Karl made a promise to Ena, Alwin and Elder Maolo : that they will do everything they could to help Zellard physically, but mostly mentally. The poor Wyverian was completely lost after everything that happened in the Forbidden Ground. All the words that Ena said while preventing him from jumping into the pit hits him pretty hard. But he had his chance to come back, possibly even better than what he was before, and he got this chance thanks to Locksin and Karl, who are bringing him to their place ; the Crystal Empire. But before arriving, they were in the darkness, they couldn’t even see what was in front of them. Both Karl and Locksin were very careful and silent, so silent that they manage to reach the Crystal Empire pretty easily. A guard was there, and he let them enter as they explained that it was the Wyverian they were talking about. When they enter, they immediately headed towards the nurse :

“Karl, you’ll need your healing too, dude, said Locksin, you just lost your arm and you almost died, but still you recklessly joined me despite me and the nurse telling you to stay in bed, his voice gets louder, so now you’ll rest without any complain, understand ?”

“Okay man, Karl did respond without complain after all, and I’ll stay with Zellard, he’ll need help, he needs someone to stay with him, to make him understand that he is not alone and we can help him no matter what, so yeah, I’ll stay by his side.”

“Wow...Karl, that’s...really nice of you, and I think you’re right. Locksin smiled back at his boyfriend. He kissed him on his forehead after he layed down near the uncounscious Wyverian. Locksin’s heart melted when he sees his boyfriend being so gentle and already protective towards the man they want to help

A few days later...

“Wait...You knew him ?... You knew Guglielmo ?! He raised you !?” Karl shouted at Zellard when he realized that he knew his ancestor, who was one of the Four Kings years ago.

“Yes, Zellard responded calmly, it’s also thanks to him that I was able to see, since I was blind at birth. He taught me how to fight, and a bit of his knowledge on weapons, armors, and other stuff he was building. I owed him a lot.” Zellard said while looking outside.

“Wow...Karl looked at him with his eyes and mouth wide open, obviously amazed about what he learned, That’s incredible ! Thanks, man ! I get to know my family and my ancestor ! That’s just amazing !”

“You’re welcome, maybe one day I can introduce you to his daughters, I’m sure they’ll be happy to see one of their descendant. Zellard grinned.”

“That’ll be great ! Wow, I still can’t believe that my ancestors were Wyverians ! The almost immortal mutated human said. Wait... Karl suddenly thought of something, since Guglielmo taught you some stuff of crafting, building and stuff, maybe you can help out, I’m sure the Crystallings will love that you help so much for our Empire ! This will be a good first step to help out, don’t you think ?”

Zellard is the type of guy that hates being useless and not doing anything, so he immediately accepted Karl’s offer. Every children love him, and that includes the Crystallings as well, especially Luna, Karl and Locksin’s adopted daughter ; Zellard always babysits her when her parents were out. He even accepted to learn their nemesis’s magic : the Umbrum’s Shadowy Dark Crystals Magic (Some of the strongest Crystallings are learning it to show the Umbrums that they are not afraid anymore and that they can be as strong as them, and even stronger since they can learn both types of magic whereas Umbrums cant). But the Crystallings knew they will need to do more than that to help Zellard out. The biggest problem was not only for him to earn people’s trust again, but also to help him mentally. After all of this, Zellard was pretty much suffering from PTSD ; he could suddenly have flashbacks, but he mostly had terrible nightmares about that one moment. 

Months goes by, Zellard felt more confident but his PTSD remained ; the Crystallings were not able to calm him down when a flashback suddenly strikes, despite their Crystal magic being the purest magic to ever exist... They slowly start to lose faith as they thought that they will not be able to help him with that. But it wasn’t over ; someone could help him, someone that Zellard needs in his life, his soulmate, his other half...

It’s in this place, in the Crystal Empire, that Zellard will meet her : Gaïana. The woman immediately caught Zellard’s eyes, as she was the only Wyverian in here (other than him of course). Being both Wyverians, they will quickly get along well and Zellard will learn more about her : she is half-Wyverian, half-Crystalling, and she has the particularity to have two distinct forms for her two races : A lineage she is really proud of, as she is for now the only Wyverian-Crystalling hybrid to be like this, probably even the only one that exists for now. They will see each other more often, and Gaïana was aways willing to help Zellard out. In the end, they fell in love, and she was able to do even more than that : Gaïana will be the only one able to help ease Zellard’s flashbacks and even nightmares when he suffers from it.

Thanks to all of this, Zellard was able to learn the Crystallings’s magic, and let’s be honest here, no one other than the Crystallings would believe that Zellard could have been able to learn and master the Crystallings’s magic, since he was once in the dark side. After learning both magic, Zellard decided to protect the people who believed in him and trusted him with all their heart and mind, by joining the Crystal Army. He asked the Empress of the Crystallings and told her about his past as a Hunter, and how he basically knows how to fight with almost all types of weapons, including a spear (the Crystallings’s main weapon). He of course joined Gaïana, as well as Amber Lily and Commander Isis to some of the fights against the Umbrums (even his friends Zacharie and Drey joined him !).

More than a year after Zellard’s arrival in the Crystal Empire...

“I can’t let them down, not after everything they did for me !”

He fought again alongside the Crystallings, but this time, it wasn’t against the Umbrums, but rather another race with mostly evil people, the Changelings, which Zacharie is partly of. They used their ability to try and take the Crystal Empire, but not only : they will try to invade every location if we let them do as they please !

Little did he know that Zellard will have to go to Lulucion to warn the inhabitants about the danger that’s coming. He will have to face the Hunters, it’s not gonna be easy since the Hunters who were manipulated by his crew despised them with a burning passion. But they will have to team up to stop it.

After defeating the bad Changelings, another threat will be on us, and let’s say that’s a pretty immeasurable one. Fighting alongside Alwin, even saving him, the young Wyverian will be able to the fruit of their efforts ; Zellard’s and the Crystallings’s combined. He’ll see it, this Ray of Hope, hope that he will finally come back home...

Figuring things regarding Alwin, his Wild Hunt, mount and so on...

Was thinking earlier about Alwin V Eldritch. Eldritch Fellow, Archimago (basically a Tolkien esque Wizard I guess?) and former Erlking of Faerie and Elfphame. Following his abdication at the advice of his Fellows (for lore reasons) Alwin (formerly Alberich) took his Corruptor of Words, his Best Knight Sir Bertilak , and somewhere between 30 to 100 Fae and Elvin Knights and has spent time Hunting, and being somewhat of a Nuisance to his Daughters who are now ruling and stuff (think of it as a King Lear situation? Sans the Tragedy). Some things to consider. What to have Alwin ride...as most Wild Hunts have people riding things... Seems it’s normally Black Horses and everyone’s in Black...will do this differently. Horse Colors...there’s two either Black, or Green (like the Green Knight’s Horse). Some ride on Goats. Eldritch Steeds like but also not like those that Nicnevin and her Court ride in the night. Bertilak on his giant Green Horse. Rosemary on a Green Goat? As for Alwin. I’m not sure. Something Kingly? Could have it be a Silver Steed which is neither Horse nor Goat. Could have it be a Unicorn (which if I recall correctly is sometimes described as an odd mix of a Horse, Goat, and some third thing?) Another possibility...just cause...could be a domesticated Questing Beast as a Mount? And I say this with it having the Snake head and neck...not that it’ll be a Giraffe.... Which seems like it fits better for a Former Emperor of the Faeries and Elves who I should note is not a Faerie or Elf himself? Unicorn? Or Questing Beast? Or something else entirely? A thought on the Unicorn idea is the Wild Hunt (save Bertilak) dismiss their Steeds into some place else when not using them. Alwin...when dismissing the Unicorn mount will leave the Horn behind which he’ll then use as a walking stick/wand. If not that...he will likely be the sort to pick up any old Smooth tree branch or just any serviceable tree branch and use that as a Wand/Walking stick. Come to think of it...I should probably make a post concerning the Eldritch Fellows and what they look like as some have undergone an aesthetic change or two...if anyone is interested in hearing about such things?
