National Holidays in the Ninja Villages + Bonus
I've had this idea in mind for a while, and now I finally got to write it down. Feel free to use these for your own works. Please tag me so I can read em all! <33
Iwagakure: The Lunar Lights of Gratitude The moon has a special place in the heart of every Iwa citizen. To them, it is a part of the earth, now observing its mother body from space. So naturally, the spectacle of a blue/super moon is a special occasion in Iwagakure. To honor and greet the moon, which is actually called "daughter" in the earth country's language, large fireworks are organized every new moon after a blue moon. As previously established, the earth country's firework industry is the largest, which Iwa shinobi are very proud of. Lighting the sky on fire and turning night into daytime is the Iwa way of giving back some of the light that the moon gives us at night.
Tumblr media
Kirigakure: The Moonshine Sea Festival Despite the rivalry between the land of earth and the land of water, there is one thing they have in common, which is their spiritual connection to the moon and space. To water country citizens, especially the fishermen, the moon is a protector and guardian of the night, along with the stars. They strengthen the their connection to their biggest source of both faith and fear: the sea. The special climate in the water country, combined with its great biodiversity give a great habitat for biolumescent plankton, turning the sea itself into a starry night sky. It is one of the only pieces of culture that has been preserved, since the celebration itself was founded by the water country's union of fishermen, who don't belong to a particular clan with a kekkei genkai; most of the kekkei genkai wielders in Kiri have been wiped out, along with their culture, traditions and religions.
Tumblr media
Sunagakure: Winter's Return The wind country is often ravaged by agonozingly hot summers, sand storms and heat waves are not a rarity in this country. While foreigners might groan and roll their eyes at the thought of the return to cold, foggy winter days, in Sunagakure it is a day for celebration. On the day where the sun stays for the longest, in the middle of the year, a large celebration is held across the nation. The way it is celebrated is different from family to family, and every Suna family is convinced that their way is the right one. Typically, markets are closed the whole day, and any missions rank B or below are halted for the day.
Tumblr media
Kumogakure: Whale Festival of Generosity During winter, whales can be found emigrating along the lightning country's coast line, towards the land of iron. This holiday once came to be to celebrate the whales emigration towards a more prosperous habitat to mate and provide enough food for their young - a truly generous gesture. Over the years, many kumo shinobi have forgotten the old tale behind this festival, and it has turned into more of a mere gift giving occasion. And yet, it is widely popular and celebrated throughout the whole country.
Tumblr media
Konoha: Cherry and Plum Blossom Viewing In Konoha, Hanami is annually celebrated. It is a custom celebrating the transitionary nature of cherry and plum blossoms blooming in spring.
Tumblr media
BONUS: Uchiha Clan Honoring one's ancestors and traditions is of high importance to the Uchiha. Every year, on a clear fall night, the whole clan gathers together to light up little candles using their katon. The tealights are arranged in the Uchiha crest and left to light up the night and the clan share the evening together eating dinner, drinking hot tea and praying at the nakano shrine.
Tumblr media
That's all, folks!

NARUTO DATABOOK STAT COMPARISON - INTELLIGENCE
With the databooks' occasional weirdness there's sometimes debate with if scores are meant to just be in comparison to a characters other abilities, or on a general scale, but I thought it was interesting to see where it'd put everyone. D1/D2/D3 shows stats that change through databooks; Databook 4 has different ones, so there's not many late arc characters
Apparently F-S rankings are sometimes used in Japanese universities with S for above 90%, F for anything below 49%, and A-B-C-D for 10% each in between. It's more of an overlay, but I thought the way it divied up skill tiers was interesting. I’ll be going through all stats, starting with intelligence
If used comparatively, Sakura's described as book smart from the beginning of Act 1, which would put 'brainy' characters at a 3.5+, which is also the most common point for battle strategy to take on a ninjutsu nerd vibe that draws on jutsu mechanics and general science (eg Shippuden Sasuke and Kisame, or Chunin Exams Shino). However, there's strategic moments and less smart decisions right up and down the list
S TIER 5 - Chiyo, Hiruzen, Itachi, Kabuto, Orochimaru, Sasori, Shikamaru, Tsunade |  Kakashi (D2/D3), 4.5 - Dan, Deidara, Ebisu, Kakuzu, Jiraiya, Shizune, Yamato | Asuma (D2/D3), Iruka (D2/D3), Kakashi (D1)
A TIER 4 -  Haku, Ibiki, Kidoumaru, Kurenai, Rin, Yashamaru | Asuma (D1), Gaara (D3), Iruka (D1), Sakura (D2/D3), Shino (D4), Temari (D3)
B TIER 3.5 - Baki, Hayate, Kimimaro, Kisame, Tayuya, Sai | Gaara (D2), Hinata (D3), Kakurou (D2/D3), Sakura (D1), Sasuke (D3), Shino (D2), Temari (D2), Tenten (D3)
C TIER 3 - Genma, Hiashi, Hidan, Might Guy, Zabuza |  Hinata (D2), Ino (D3),  Neji (D2/D3), Shino (D1)
D TIER 2.5 - Dosu, Jiroubou, Sakon, Ukon | Gaara (D1), Hinata (D1), Ino (D2), Neji (D1), Sasuke (D2), Temari (D1), Tenten (D2)
F TIER 2 - Anko | Chouji (D3), Ino (D1), Kankurou (D1), Kiba (D3), Naruto (D3),  Rock Lee (D2), Sasuke (D2), Tenten (D1), 1.5 - Kiba (D2), Rock Lee (D1/D2) 1 - Zaku | Chouji (D2), Kiba (D1), Naruto (D1/D2), Obito (D2) 0.5 Chouji (D1)

Bring Karura BACK!!
Hellooooo.
Here I will just quickly (not really), explain a bit of my theories about the manga regarding Ryuuji and Karura, along with the rest of the Immortals, and what I'm expecting/hoping to happen for the rest of the war arc and other tidbits I found laying around.
Enjoy!!
First of all I want Ryuuji to be able to summon Karura, they literally have Tatsuma and Gozo discussing about the possibility of summoning him back from the vessel of forced possesion (aka. Todou).
Like, they wouldn't just hint at this possibility and then not doing it in the future, and even more now that they are in the middle of a war against very strong forces.
Tumblr media
They are talking about summoning him back, but there's no need since Ryuuji still has his contract on going.
We have been drilled into our heads of the outstanding regenerative powers of Karura by Todou not shutting his mouth about it during the Kyoto Arc, so I would guess he (Karura), would be able to easily come back from dying and being used as a lab rat for the elixir that helped to perfect Satan's cloned body.
Tumblr media
This could also be followed by his similar demon kind used for the same experiment, the Ouroboros and Hydra, since they are also creatures/demons of regenerative abilities that represent death and rebirth, destruction and creation. (And we also know that the more powerful the demon, the faster it can regenerate, like how it took Lucifer a few hours to return from being destroyed during the Blue Night, it could also apply to the Immortals but would take a bit longer).
According to the legends:
Phoenix: (Karura) A fire bird that arises from the ashes of his own predecesors. Death and rebirth. A cyclical life.
Hydra: (Hachirotaro) A water and wind snake/dragon that regenerates its head by double every time one gets cut down. Death and rebirth. A ciclical life.
Ouroboros: An (earth??) serpent reptile that eats its own tail, continually eating itself and being reborn from itself. Death and rebirth. A ciclical life.
Tumblr media
Anyways, I want Ryuuji to summon Karura back because he never frickin broke the aeon wave flame contract with him and he was also the last one to have an actual, valid contract, since Tatsuma clearly passed it down to Ryuuji (1), (2), and he explicitly said after, that his contract with Karura was broken (3).
Tumblr media
While with Ryuuji, he simply fainted from exhaustion during the Impure King battle, but it was never declared that their contract broke or was annuled in some way.
Tumblr media
Like, just how it happened during the Kyoto Arc, Karura divided himself into two beings, one with Todou and the other one with Ryuuji, and thus the elixir experiment being succesful means that Todou and the other chosen ones died along with the immortal demons. A part of Karura died but the other part still lives inside Ryuuji.
That means that the forced possesion with Todou and all the other guys was broken and they can go to being independent but Karura would go back to Ryuuji since their contract was never broken.
And he would go back to him on full power too, because if you remember when he split up, Tatsuma had already broken/lost the generational contract with the head priest of Myo Da but still had his personal one between himself (Tatsuma Suguro) and Karura (the aeon wave flame contract). What Ryuuji "inherited" was the smaller and younger (time wise) contract of Tatsuma and Karura, thus that's why Karura was so smol and cute and nesting on top of Ryuuji's head agh the cutie bean.
Meanwhile, what Todou devored and then proceeded to force bodily possession on himself, was the larger, oldest self of Karura that was in the contract (now broken), between the head priest of Myo Da and Karura.
Karura told Tatsuma that their generational contract was broken because Mamushi, Rin, Todou and many people learned about it but Tatsuma told him that the personal one was still standing. Karura was just like "fine" but his body stayed the same, it didn't diminish in size or anything, until Todou devoured the available part of Karura (the generational contract).
I do believe that a generational contract has more power than a one life time contract but at this point it just depends on the different amounts of contracts the demon has, how many "bodies" it posesses; and if it only has one valid contract then, despite the lack of generational length of it, the full power of the demon would still go to the one active contract, which in this case would be Ryuuji's.
2. Also, we know that Karura asks in return secrets, he feeds on lies and suspicions, of making things secret.
Tumblr media
Almost or if not all of Myo Da's secrets were revealed during the Kyoto Arc, so Ryuuji can't really feed him with that, but, he just became Lightning's apprentice which entails him to all the secrets about Section 13, the Okumura brothers, Yuri, Shiro, Mephisto, Satan, the demon kings, the Asylum, the Illuminati, the entire Order of the True Cross, etc, etc.
All that information spans at least over 16 years of secrets and lies, since the birth of the Asylum and the True Cross. Ryuuji really got hit with all that on the face in less than, what? 1 week?? four days??, that is more than enough to keep Karura satisfied for the following weeks or even months in regards to secrets.
Besides, I want to point out how when they were starting their investigation and Lightning went to question Mephisto about it on his bathtub, Mephisto was kinda going to play hard to get, but we got a few panels of him glancing towards Ryuuji and then immediately agreeing to talk. (Imean, isn't this weird? Why would he decide to spill one of his biggest secrets right after seeing the boy in the demon contract with an immortal that feeds specifically on secrets, hmmm... I wonder wHy...).
Tumblr media
(gah, I remember reading this chapter when it came out and finding it weird that Ryuuji was focused on here and was practically the reason for Mephisto to start talking, sigh... li'l ol' me already knew there was some shady stuff happening but was too young and too early to realize it, damn. dis is some gud stuff).
(Also, poor Ryuuji, the amount of distress and torment he endured during this entire time must have been exhausting, thankfully Lightning and Izumo, along with his entire family and friends, helped him to calm down, gosh he needs a hug).
And just to finish it up with a nice touch. After telling them where to find Section 13, Mephisto says this:
Tumblr media
._.
"Raising suspicion" ah? Dear Mephy? Because you know that someone has the immortal demon chicken that feeds on lies, suspicions and secrets?? HM??? You wanna keep him well fed ah?? I wonder for wHat specific event that may happen in the future he would come in handy... (cough the war cough if you didn't realize it already cough)
Now, I'm not sure if a few people knowing the truth would affect the amount of nice food that Karura gets, like how Uwabami and Jaozo kinda knew about some of the stuff Tatsuma was hiding, so maybe the food effect would only last up until Ryuuji, Izumo, Osceola, Lucy and Lightning saw the whole laboratory thing with Drac and showed Angel.
And also, if Karura feeds on secrets, it could also be secrets not even known to the user, like before all the Lightning stuff, in between the Kyoto Arc and the Section 13 arc, (as well as throughout the entire manga), Ryuuji was developing, harboring and realizing his feelings towards Izumo, I'm sure Karura could feed off of that too, for more simple they could be, they caused a great deal of confusion and conflict during the Illuminatic Arc right until he confessed them to Izumo, but even after that, only Izumo knows about them, is just one person, so the secret is still a secret, nobody else knows (officially), he still doesn't know if his feelings are corresponded and still feels and seems conflicted whenever Izumo gives or receives some kind of attention from another guy (Rin, Shima), all that inner turmoil, doubts and suspicions would keep Karura well fed inside Ryuuji.
3. Also, why in the universe would Kato sensei give us this big hint in the official art of the 10th anniversary with Ryuuji holding his Buddhist priest beads with red fire coming out of it for literally no reason unless is foreshadowing for something that later could be important and relevant??
(Also, look at dem ships beautifully standing one beside the other, the boy's arms holding them inside their own body frames, sighhh cuties <333)
Tumblr media
Also, I love the fact that the three boys from the gang (sorry Koneko, you are our strategist man), have the three different flames from Gehenna and Assiah:
Ryuuji: Red Flame, Assiah's physical fire, that destroys the physical aspect of the things, the vessel of possesion or external temptaint. (Ryuuji thinks and feels too much, you know, non-tangible things, so he would have the red flames in order to balance himself out).
Shima: Black Flame, Gehenna's spiritual fire, that destroys the demon possessing the vessel while leaving the vessel intact. (Shima is all about physical desires and dreams so he needs the spiritual flame in order to balance himself out).
Rin: Blue Flame, Assiah and Gehenna's fire in one, being able to burn both the physical and non physical being. (And Rin being both human and demon has the special blue flames that are both spiritual and physical flames that also help balance himself out).
4. And continuing with the talk about the three immortal demons.
They are fire (phoenix), water (hydra) and earth (uroboros) [most likely].
We know that Ryuuji has a contract with Karura and has used him before, his powers include regenerative abilities and shields.
Yukio has some affinity in summoning water type demons (the naiads, and he just needs more confidence bc he's already able to summon eight of those things like plEase), as well as he had an almost contract with Hachirotaro himself so that could mean something you know?, his powers include hypnotic abilities, and regenerative abilities with his blood. Shura could come here and help him manage the new powers since she used them for so long and had a contract with Hachirotaro.
And I guess the earth demon, ouroboros, could only be for Shiemi..? since she's related to the earth as well, but I'm not that sure, I still need to find someone that can make that contract and find the actual demon in the manga jaja.
Maybe, they will unite, along with Mephisto's special weapon, to lower Satan's body defences, and then everyone will strike together like the good shonen manga that this is, because if Satan is defeated by the dumb Devil *star* Banisher thing that Mephisto created and the manga ends right then and there ima just gO.
Also, that thing of Satan dying thanks to Angel's Holy Light Descension is pure bs since I'm pretty sure Satan will regenerate by next chapter (what was the entire point of the immortal's regenerative powers, if not for this kind of situation?), or he will proceed to try and posess Rin because he was going to be his og vessel, anyways, this war cannot be that short, I want to see everyone participating and I hope Lucy is okey :c.
I'm not saying I want nakama power to win the big war, I want a good demonstration and participation of every member of the gang with all their new skills, abilities and powers in the final battle to see their development and growth. Gah please.
Also, please, Ryuuji, just summon Karura and kick someone's a$$ alreadyyyy ahhhhh. And I want to see my goddess Izumo perform the Metamashizume no Harai ritual again and kick some a$$ as well. Those special capes must come in handy if they keep the stamina inside the body of the individual, is different if the person was already worn out, injured and tired (like Yukio), but it could be different with someone who was pretty ok for the most part (like Ryuuji, Izumo, Koneko, etc).
Anyways, thank you so much for reading all the way here! This is all a theory and some analysis I came up with, sorry for the many paragraphs and if it's confusing as well for the weird english.
I hope you look forward for the next chapter as much as I do! :D
See ya next time~~!!

Note
So Raiga is my favorite swordsman, then Kisame, then Kushimaru, and then zabuza and the Hozuki brothers.
I think that for the time before Raiga met Ranmaru when he felt empty inside, he tried everything to fill that void. Killed people in different ways, tried different hobbies, did drugs, drank, and had sex.
I think this is how we got Buntan. While I can’t imagine him r@ping someone, I can imagine him having a one night stand or visiting a brothel. Which would be why he didn’t know about Buntan. I can see him having sex with this lady, and being like “hmm this isn’t working. On to the next thing!”
I get the image of him being really awkward, too, adding to why Bun’s mom hates him. Picture it: Raiga’s in a bar, drunk, moping to another random drunk dude about how he feels like he’s dead inside. Dude says something like “well, get yourself a woman! A good shag will fix you right up!” And raiga’s like “no cap??” And the next day attempts to seduce the first woman he sees. She probably is either thinking he’s so awkward and strange he’s cute or recognizes that he’s got the swords and agrees to sleep with him bc she doesn’t want to get zapped or stabbed. Either way, they get to a room and he’s like “okay, I’m a guy and you’re a girl and we’re naked… now what?” And she rolls her eyes and is like “ugh fine I’ll do it” and then after she falls asleep post frickle frackle he’s lying awake, staring at the ceiling like “well that didn’t work.” And just leaves. I doubt the ninja schools have a good sex Ed program so it’s possible he wasn’t even thinking about a child being a consequence.
(I know someone who was part of the Amish community that when she was 15 a boy convinced her that women couldn’t get pregnant their first time and she got pregnant and was tossed out of the community. So I think it’s a situation where he knew where babies come from but didn’t connect all the dots.)
Anyway, this man found an ailing child and, while having no experience in child care, was like “well shit I can’t NOT take you with me, can I?” And they figured out a dynamic that worked. I was a special Ed teaching assistant. Caring for children (and adults) with mobility disabilities is difficult. You add that Raiga didn’t have any classes like I did on how to care for someone like that, and it’s impressive to me that he successfully managed to not only keep Ranmaru alive, but he was THRIVING and loving life! Being a parent brought Raiga deep fulfillment, so I know DAMN WELL that if he knew Buntan existed at all, let alone that her mother at the very least mentally abused her by telling her she was worthless etc, he would have grabbed her up SO FAST and been like “look, a boy and a girl, I have a matching set!”
And as everyone knows, caring for children is expensive. Raiga figured that out pretty quickly I think. He knew he needed money, a stable place to live, and that usual Anbu level ninja work was extremely dangerous. It’s probably the only work he knew, and bc he was raised to be a murdering machine, he doesn’t think “oh well I could be a cashier at a ramen shop” like a normal person. He saw the opportunity to take over the gold mine and took it. It not only gave him the means to care for Ranmaru properly, he could safely keep him on his back at all times, and do his funerals.
I think if Tsunade would have come to the mine herself, she could’ve been like “okay, if you come the Konoha, work for me and stop the funerals, we’ll let you and Ranmaru stay together in the village.” And everything would have been fine.
TLDR: LIGHTNING MAN MAKE BRAIN GO BRRR
this is gonna be a long response so under the cut it goes!
i can't believe i've never CONCEIVED of sad drunk/druggie raiga. mix a sad boy with hallucinogens, oh noooo
i am very onboard with him not knowing the first thing about sex (him knowing it happens naked HKSNCBVNKJNGKJF that's such a good image)
IMO kiri did have sex ed, like people knew about sex and pregnancy because replacing the population was a BIG DEAL, but even so completely ignorant raiga is important to me. maybe it doesn't make sense but raiga's mind is a mess in so many ways.
imagining raiga trying TO SEDUCE A WOMAN IS SO FUNNY HDKFNGJHN he checks out a book from the library and learns about pickup lines. hey girl, nice eyes, he says. the girl just stares and he stares back because he figures she's got to say something at some point, he did the thing!
his relationship with ranmaru was a trainwreck but he did take care of that boy!!! he cooked food for him, which it didn't seem like people were doing beforehand! (it's amazing ranmaru survived long enough for raiga to pick him up--the villagers who were just like here's some cold potatoes and carrots young lad! ough the iron deficiency) so i love the thought of the mom, instead of keeping her a secret, gave buntan to raiga to raise bc she didn't care to. i feel like he would have been forced to be too responsible to go around holding funerals.
"he could safely keep him on his back at all times" you're making me think about how weird it must have been for people to see him before and after ranmaru--hey buddy? you uh. you got a little something on your back there. do you think you need to go to the doctor?
i couldn't imagine konoha taking in a rouge nin at that point, because the protocol for rogue nin was pretty hard set, but i love the thought of them being around more >W<
and for the record, here's how I think Buntan's conception happened: her mom was a prostitute around Katabami, and Raiga's little clanmates were going to her brothel all the time so he decided to check it out. he only went once and cried afterwards, sex was so unpleasant for both him and the lady. she already hated him for being the leader of all these obnoxious men who keep coming around, but when she got wind of the funerals she was horrified. and then she found out she was pregnant and it was a no-win situation whoever the father was, but then the baby came out with the double-ringed blue eyes and it was such an oh no. she drank, she kept everything about raiga a secret other than that he was worthless because she was afraid if bun knew anything more she would really turn out like him. unfortunately this opened the door for shizuma to bamboozle her with talks about what a hero her dad secretly was and how she's carrying on his legacy. it was a trick! it was bait! run, buntan!!
Another really interesting theory to me is one made i think by forgivememadre, that raiga was in an unhappy arranged marriage in kiri!!! AGHH i conceptualize him as literally having lightning god ancestry, bc i love kiri nin being descended from spirits and other creatures, and kiri wanting to continue that lineage makes sense to me. ough.
he makes my brain go brrr too. he has a permanent apartment in there -w-

bestie what are your kisame and/or itakisa hc's?
bestie! thank you for asking!
i have a lot of thoughts on both so i had to sit with this for a bit and this may have turned into meta posting instead
kisame grew up too fast both in terms of how kirigakure shinobi society is and in the sense that as a hoshigaki the shark traits made him age faster than other youth around him which meant ten year old kisame was six feet tall with a baby face
this man will actually eat anything and when he eats chicken he bites into the bone to eat the marrow out and then eats the bones also but the last time he did that in front of someone (hidan) it was treated as a party trick and kisame doesn't like the attention
he does not like soft things like blankets or pet fur since the texture is too off putting on his own skin, but he does enjoy the smoothness of silk and satin, though if hes not careful the fabric will tear when going across him
i like sticking to canon or as close to canon as i can for kisame since this is the one time where kishimoto's ambiguity actually works in a character's favor. i think kisame, first and foremost, enjoys getting to know people as a form of entertainment, first as a kid when he could gave their reactions towards him as a hoshigaki, then as a teen where the only people he could interact with were older or much younger than him (thanks zabuza), and later as a shinobi getting intel spying on his comrades. kisame is friendly because it makes others unnerved by him and also underestimate him, both which are funny to kisame because he knows he always has the upper hand. i also think kisame views friendships as a fantasy since all the people he interacts with end up dying, sometimes by his hand, so friendliness and conversation are entertaining rather than meaningful. in canon we see in his flashbacks that he knows he can't get attached to people because they will be killed so he is a fundamentally lonely person but hes also a rule follower dedicated to the task at hand so it seems kisame finds it easier to cope with missing out on friendships and relationships by getting along with people as a game rather than fully break from the role of obedient henchman for a nihilistic world ending dream solution he's come to follow instead.
my last kisame headcannon is that hes the beefiest and most sharklike of the hoshigaki because thats hot as hell
itakisa headcannons continued over here

Look, I know that comics like DC and Marvel have so many fuckin problems, but at the same time, everytime I read Naruto meta about unexplored cultures/characters/whatnot in canon I can't help thinking, like...
'...what if they could hire writers to do various ongoing series about different aspects of the world of Naruto?'
'Like how there's fifty billion comics about fifty billion different superhero teams in DC.'
'CAN WE GET SOME SHIT FOR KIRIGAKURE?? FOR KUSHINA AND THE OTHER UZU REFUGEES??'
'WE DON'T HAVE TO SACRIFICE WHATEVER STORY YOU'RE TELLING ABOUT BURRITO AND HIS FRIENDS, YOU CAN KEEP DOING THAT WHILE ALSO HAVING SOMEBODY PUT OUT STORIES ABOUT THIS-'

A personal thank you for your blessed zabuza and haku and mist village posts!! Wondering if you ever wrote anything about that in AO3 too? Ty!
hah, thanks! i spent years shouting about kirigakure and water country on this blog, so if you’re looking for meta/headcanons/drabbles, 99% of them are on this blog. my tagging system’s changed a ton over the 5+ years i’ve had this blog, so finding things is more of an art than a science, unfortunately, but searching for haku, zabuza, kirigakure, playlist, drabbles, fic, answered, and water country are your best bet.
i have three or four short haku-centric fics on AO3, username waterdeaths.

Kiri meta (and a little bit about Suna)
Me: I had an idea about Kiri and their death toll of shinobi.
(Which is, if you ask me, another piece of bs from Kishi that is actually an unsustainable practice in any kind of society)
@shetanshadowwolf: Absolutely
Me: So I was thinking that while literal deaths do happen, what usually happens is one of the various levels of 'death'.
Which can be a damnatio memoriae of traitors (Roman Empire practice were convicted criminals/traitors of the state were removed from all official documents and any likenesses of them were destroyed, effectively striking them out of existence by excising their memory) or it can be that by being beaten by someone else you ended up in the other person's position in the rankings or even at the bottom of the rankings (depending on the differences between two people's rankings and the kind of duel and the stipulations in place beforehand) and so the operative you were before 'dies' and the one who beat you takes on your title and job or it can be a way to terminate a specific identity and either go back to your life or start your life anew.
It can also be a death of the person that you were before and then you have to abandon all previous ties, friendships, favors owned, debts incurred, etc. and you have to start your life anew as a new person and the old you is considered dead to the world or you it can be the death of the person that you were and then not only you have to abandon all previous ties / friendships / favors owned / debts incurred / etc. but you also have given your life over to the one who won the spar / showed how much superior to you they are to do whatever they want to it (which fits with Zabuza taking in Haku as his Tool and it turns that sorta-adoption into a cultural Kiri practice).
So when a Kiri shinobi says that someone else 'died' it can mean a lot of things that depend on the context of the 'death' and while sometimes it is a literal cessation of life even within Kiri, usually the literal cessation of life part happens when dealing with enemies.
But it also makes a great fear-based propaganda tool to wave at outsiders, to make it sound like Kiri kills their own indiscriminately and without any kind of logical sense to it.
@shetanshadowwolf: The second one sounds a bit like what the. Fuck. Brain. The whole "I was the sole survivor of my team/ class" stuffs. Like. If they put four chuunin-ready teams to pit each other and one ones who make it out are down to just one or two operatives. If you really wanna strike fear you brag that the rest died
Maybe they didn't really- they could be broken down in ranks y made to wait longer, etc
But I always felt that kiri shouldn't have, in practicality, been literally chumming thru their genin
Me: Or you can always dump a whole class of graduates down to get re-taught because what the fuck was that, you are not even close to the standards we want you to meet, except you Zabuza, you did great.
And then you reward Zabuza with the 'Monster of the Mist' title because Zabuza should have been way the fuck scarier than he was in the manga/anime (but he was basically the first main antagonist and I know Kishi hadn't even planned or wanted to do that arc so I can see why Zabuza, and hell even Kakashi in that arc, doesn't hold up to other big antagonists in retrospective) and surely had a fuckton of promise and bloodthirst.
@shetanshadowwolf: Yuuup
And an "if you're gonna have a reputation, kid. Make one that makes your opponents flee the battlefield. Short of that, make them fight with fear in their hearts"
Tho admittedly I think a lot of the continuity issues / hey why are things keep getting worse" is just a bad mix of how long everything got and backfill on things end up twisting into mad BS
Me: Oh I absolutely agree on that point, I just have fun with filling in the plot holes and colouring the lines.
I also think that Kiri could have a communal society that is not structured the way the land villages are.
From the maps I've found online, Whirpool (if it's placed on a map at all) was probably costal to the Land of Fire but Mist is his own island surrounded by other islands.
So, to blow some dust off that old theory of mine about ninja making deals to get kekkei genkai, the Mist people probably made deals with water spirits/gods.
Which explains why so many of them have sharp, shark-like teeth and the Hozuki can turn into water and the Yuki clan was basically a cross between ice spirits and ninjas and it explains a lot about Kisame.
So this is the map I'm going off of (mostly because it has Whirpool in it in a position that makes sense to me) and the thing about Mist is that they could have easily not become a village, just remained a set of Clans with their own land, away from the mainland and the squabbles of the other newly founded villages, right? They are away from there, they have the sea in between them and the rest of it, why would they have banded together to form a village of their own?
And what my brain threw at me (which doesn't have to be in contrast with anyone else's idea, this is just my own headcanon) is "Trade and Fear of Raiding."
Hidden Mist is clearly self-sufficient, they can afford to survive in their islands, but they have to have some materials/production that nobody else has because what you find on the coast is not the same kind of things that you get from the deeper sea and so they have stuff that they can trade but that can also be taken by them and while I would headcanon that they had trade with Whirpool, the moment Whirlpool went into a marriage alliance with the newborn Leaf, who is a village of ninja clans that falls under the command of the Daimyo of the Land of Fire, the Mist Clans probably looked at each and went well, fuck.
Because now their trade partners not only are a smaller village full of badass seal masters who can pop chains out of their bodies but now they also have the support of the Clan of A Thousand Skills, aka the Senju, and the scariest motherfuckers around, aka the Uchiha, and they are collecting other powerful clans, like those noble assholes who were all cozy with the various Daimyo's and could see through most shit, aka the Hyuga, and the scary as fuck Nara and their merchant buddies the Akimichi and those scary rip-your-brain-out Yamanaka, as if they are prizes at a fair.
That's ... that's fucking scary is what it is.
@shetanshadowwolf: When presented that way, yes
Me: And then other Villages start to form, including Cloud at their north (which I headcanon other villages formed exactly because the newborn Konoha was a huge threat to all other Clans and also because some Clans were shafted because their rivals joined first and they weren't allowed to and what are they going to do, play sitting ducks for their enemy clans? Fuck no, let's talk with others and make our own village and that's how we get to rival villages) and okay, hold your fucking horses, do we all agree that we are sitting ducks here? I mean, we are the toughest, nastiest motherfuckers around, we have done our deals with the spirits of the wind and sea, we are strong, yes but we are also one isolated, large island with smaller islands around and no way to easily decamp, not that we would if we could. This is our land and fucks everyone else if they try to take it from us.
[For an example of 'potential a clan who wanted to join Konoha but was not allowed' see the wasp people who have a beef with the Aburame and who apparently had the first Tsuchikage as a clan member. Those two clans reciprocally look down on each other and are bitter enemies and it would come to no surprise to me if the Aburame joined as long as those assholes don't. Not everyone is Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara and is either mutually willing or mutually able to convince their clan to bury the feud and so of course they ran and so the other Clan Head went 'fuck you all, I'll make my own damn village and it will be better structured and truer to our ideals than yours could ever be' and that's how we get Iwa being founded.]
So, being faced with the various land Daimyo's getting their own militias and with the chakra-wielding Clans thinking they were faced with the threat of other Clans banding together and being able to overcome them and either assimilate them or steal their trade/islands/people the Mist Clans probably met together and a deal was made for a Hidden Mist Village to be founded (possibly with someone playing as a puppet Daimyo so they could argue for political sovereignty over their own territory and nobody could use a lack of Daimyo as an excuse to invade or 'bring them to heel' or whatever shitty propaganda reason would be found).
@shetanshadowwolf: ... Valid points. (And had not zoomed out to note that some of the country to country rivalries might be as strongly tied to the previously vicious clan rivalries)
Me: They are pretty isolated.
So what they know is that some time ago, how much time ago differs from person to person, the Senju and the Uchiha buried their differences and founded a village and other Clans joined them and then some more Clans formed their own villages and now every Daimyo has a village and here they are, isolated from everyone else, behind on information, surrounded by potential enemies, with probably some pretty good trades.
Kiri is the place the Seven Swordsmen hail from that means that they have to have figured out how to make the Seven Swords which means swordsmanship and swordsmithing and probably good smiths in general on top of precious, luxury materials like mother of pearl, pearls, corals, healing methods/productions that are based on either product of the sea or things they could grow on their island etc.
A bunch of Clans working with each other and making mixed Clan teams and teaching chakra-wielding civilians how to pull off techniques and working for their Daimyo? That's a fucking problem.
@shetanshadowwolf: Yuuuup
Me: Kiri's people were hard, to begin with, because life out at sea, even on a big island, is a pretty isolated and self-sufficiency-requiring kind of system and they were probably close-knit, to begin with, a community that supported each other and because they were comparatively small and had less access to the resources of the other Villages they made themselves harder still.
Balls to the wall, we are the scariest, nastiest motherfuckers you will ever meet and you have better leg it before I chop your legs off and sink my teeth into your throat.
(Which is not to say that Kiri is necessarily nice or soft or home to a lot of sane ninja. Ninja as a general bunch are pretty insane people and Kiri was hard, to begin with, and got harder as they made deals with ice spirits and sea spirits and got even harder as a Village but it's not the outright let's throw together a bunch of scary tropes without rhyme or reason because they look cool bs I got from the canon)
@shetanshadowwolf: Kiri is not soft
Me: Not at all.
They are pretty much feral whenever someone Not One Of Us is around and they are hard as hell but tight-knit too when it's Just Us.
At least until Madara came around and screw them up and over and fucked with the Clans by destroying them and basically did everything he could to stoke them into becoming the hell pit every outsider thought they were, pushing them into being what Obito had grown up hearing about.
@shetanshadowwolf: On the scale of "we are our element/affinity" sand and kiri are some the baddest bitches, per se
Sand with its puppetry and poisons and the desert WILL devour you
And Kiri with its mist and feralness
Me: And, I would argue, water as well.
Zabuza did a few water attacks on top of the swordsmanship as did Hoshigaki Kisame.
So Sand is puppetry and poisons and the desert WILL devour you and Kiri is mist and feralness and swordsmanship and the sea WILL swallow you up
@shetanshadowwolf: Yes. Desert dehydration and water's all-powerful consumption
Two different sides of a brutal coin
Me: And since Suna is considered one of the weaker villages, big enough to be one of the 'Big Powers' but also inferior to Konoha / Iwa / Kumo I would say that Suna, like Kiri, was a village founded in direct reaction to the Big Three founding themselves.
Desert is not welcoming, like Kiri it's an isolated kind of living and I could see their Clans initially being nomadic, except that with those encroaching powers (especially highly militaristic Iwa at the north with two unnamed regions between them on the left side of the map that do not seem to have enough importance to be labelled or have a village that could be crossed by the Iwa people to spill over Suna) they also felt they should pull together and form their own village.
Consolidate their territory, make sure they can support each other and defend themselves in the face of outsiders and probably under pressure from their own Daimyo, since we know that there is a Daimyo of Wind that was turning his back on Suna and outsourcing missions to Konoha in Naruto's time.
What politician would want to be the one of the Four Great Lands (Five once Kiri declared itself a sovereign territory of their own) without its own standing militia? Especially with an aggressively militarized neighbour at the North and someone in the East who can not only capture and hand out Bijus but has also managed to entice both of the all-seeing eyes clans and has the sealing masters on their side.

Kirigakure is extremely isolationist when it comes to foreign policy and they’re surrounded on all sides by ocean and thus they don’t have nearly the same amount of border skirmishes and threat displays and power plays that the other villages have so statistically speaking the majority of fights Kiri nin have in their lifetimes are against other Kiri nin.

Kirigakure Worldbuilding II - Specialties
Tumblr media
Inspired by a recent conversation I had with @pxssy-stuntin-for-itxchi, I got wanted to add more to my Kirigakure worldbuiling post!
Tumblr media
Food Preservation Since except for a month during the winter, it never really gets cold in Kirigakure. This has lead to its citizens becoming very creative at enhancing the shelf life of the food that they have. Meat/fish is dry-aged and smoked, fruits are turned into preserve, cheong, or slow-dried. Dairy is a luxury in the water realm, so there are a lot of plant based dairy alternatives already, so it’s no surprise the wave realm has a quite big vegetarian and vegan population. Even though their spice tolerance is not the highest, when talking SALT tolerance, no village can beat Kiri. They are VERY generous with salting their food. In order to get a smokey flavor to any dish, you can obtain smoked salt everywhere in the country. The water realm was the first region the come up with the concept of fermentation of food. Milk is turned into yoghurt and cabbage is turned into kimchi and its more popular variant - sauerkraut. Fun fact: Suigetsu comes from a high ranking caste, so he actually was able to afford dairy yoghurt and jello with actual gelatine, and they're his favorite foods.
Tumblr media
Kimchi and Sauerkraut
The general spice tolerance of Kiri citizens is not the highest across the shinobi world, so kimchi is mostly exported to Konoha and Suna. The cabbage grown in the water realm is specifically bred to be extra heat resistant and crunchy. In order to cut down on waste, the excess is turned into sauerkraut juice. To put less of a strain on the public healthcare system, the water realm government has issued its citizens to exercise and eat healthy – especially children. To get more children to drink sauerkraut juice, it is produced in portable, biodegradable little juice boxes which are handed out for free in the Kirigakure academy. Every Kiri genin has tasted it atleast once. Scurvy was once a big problem for most shinobi going on long term stealth missionas, since most just lived off dried meat and crackers, except for Kiri Nin, since they always carry sauerkraut juice (and kumquats) with them.
Tumblr media
Fruit
Mangos: With their sweet and fruity taste, they’re popular amongst children, especially when dried, rolled into balls with an added sugar crust. While other countries see them as a special treat they’re a staple in Kiri. Papaya: Another Kiri staple. It is eaten either as a fruit in its orange form or in its green form in more hearty dishes. The seeds are ground and sold as a pepper alternative. Its extracts of the are used by the Kiri beauty industry, which is the biggest one, closely followed by Suna's beauty industry. Peaches: Often grown on the mountaintops of the water realm, they’re loved all over the country. Peach trees are seen as a sign of fertility, renewal and good luck. The pits are turned into persipan, which many foreigners don't like. Durian: Those stinky fruit are banned in Kiri’s public spaces. However, it is still the most popular fruit overall, so only a few get exported yearly, much to the other countries' durian lovers' chagrin. Jackfruit: Not a lot of Kiri citizens like its fleshy texture but it is often used as meat alternative by Kiri’s large plant-based population. Lychee: They’re often sugared and canned, or added to jelly. They're amongst the most popular fruit to make cheong with.
Kumquat: Kiri nin love them because they’re basically easily portable, vitamin c filled snacks. Other honorable mentions include: Rambutan, Mangosteen, Starfruit, Cherimoya, Soursop, Yuzu and Tamarillo.
Tumblr media
Jelly If you’ve read my last post on Kiri specialties, you probably know that instead of manufactured candy, Sweet tooths (teeth?) in Kiri chomp down on dried fruit, fermented sugary sticky rice and – jelly. Gelatine, like most non fish animal products, is a luxury so most jellies are made with agar-agar, a plant based “gelatine”. Just take some fruit juice and set it with agar – and there you have jelly. Most foreigners find Kiri’s obsession with jelly pudding off-putting, but that doesn’t stop them. Fun fact: Suigetsu comes from a high ranking caste, so he actually was able to afford dairy yoghurt and jello with actual gelatine, and they're his favorite foods. Non food fun fact: As genetic engineering gets more advanced and Kirigakure already having no issues using bacteria, they're also the biggest exporter of nutrient agar for agar plates which are used for the cultivation of bacteria and funghi. Kigakure is the leading village when it comes to biological and medical advancements, which is why Orochimaru has visited very often (and eventually ran into Kimimaro)

More Naruto thoughts: this time specifically about the Hyuuga, not just them hijacking a different post.
A lot of people posit that Hinata was abducted by Kumo as a child as part of a bloodline theft/breeding program. I actually don’t think that’s the case. (And I’ve re-blogged stuff to that effect before.) My reasoning:
Hinata was kidnapped when she was three. Her whole childhood she had short hair. Her name is (I think, not entirely certain as I’m not Japanese) gender neutral.
Further, the age gap between her and Hanabi, the lack of her mother’s presence anywhere, etc. kinda implies (if it’s not outright stated somewhere) that her mother died in childbirth. Hiashi, being the kind of guy that he is, possible had his brother looking after Hinata around that time. As Hizashi doesn’t like his brother (and I think there are scenes in the anime where Hiashi triggers the seal and tortures his brother for glaring at him/his kid) it’s likely that Hinata was alone at night, rather than sleeping near her father or her uncle’s family.
Three years old is young enough to still be confused about the concept of identical twins and at that age Neji hadn’t been sealed yet. It’s possible that she, at that age, called her uncle “father” by mistake more than once. She calls Neji “older brother,” a habit from their childhood when they got along that she continues to use throughout the series (even when Neji hates her). I think Neji called her “Hinata-chan” at the time, rather than “Hinata-sama/hime,” but I’m not entire sure. I am, however, pretty sure that “chan” is used regardless of gender at that age.
Kishimoto is sexist— as evidenced by the source work and has a thing about boys being “better fighters” and many of them, even characters we are supposed to view as good, seem to view women as weak (or at least a big hassle to interact with).
Around this point in time an armistice is being signed to end the war, but there are likely still skirmishes between countries. Even if Kumo is willing to sign a treaty with Konoha, they’re probably still fighting elsewhere.
Lightning Country has an island close to Water Country. Probably got it in the war/are possibly still fighting over it.
Ao from Kiri obtained a Byakugan during the war. If Kumo and Kiri are fighting, Kumo would probably notice that Kiri suddenly has a shinobi who has an ability uncannily similar to the Hyuuga— and that this shinobi wears a rather obvious eyepatch.
I think that Kumo ninja saw a potential soldier to brainwash, not a future broodmare:
Hinata was three, too young to display any outward/physically feminine traits. Hyuuga tend to dress in a traditional manner, so clothing wouldn’t help people tell one way or another.
She called the child of one who was obviously a branch member “big brother” and might have called that branch member “father,” meaning she was of lower importance to the clan. If she went missing it would take a while for a search team to look for her.
With the knowledge (or suspicion) that Kiri had a Byakugan and the proximity between the two, they would’ve wanted a Byakugan of their own to counter that. Kishimoto’s sexism means that Kumo would have wanted a male Hyuuga. Fighting techniques probably wouldn’t have been a problem because Kumo is big on Kenjutsu, Raiton and Taijutsu, so she would’ve been trained as any other Kumo shinobi— with some extra focus on her bloodline ability.
(And let’s be honest, if starting up a breeding program it makes more sense to have a guy. Pregnancies take 40 weeks out of 52, with 6 weeks for recover at minimum— so maybe 1 pregnancy a year? Miscarriage is a thing, as is abortion; the later is not as complicated to do (based on reading) as I thought, though there are safety issues. Tying your tubes is permanent. And the uterus can be irreparably damaged by tons of things. We have no proof that surrogacy is a thing in Naruto, but considering Konoha has the best medical system and it uses fuinjutsu (which is thought to be pretty complicated) in-verse, I doubt surrogacy is viable for Kumo, if not everywhere. A guy can never really stops making sperm and vasectomies are reversible, and if sperm donors don’t exist, the time period of Naruto is a weird thing so having multiple spouses could be considered normal (if perhaps extravagant); were a Hyuuga boy stolen and indoctrinated, this likely would’ve been encouraged.)
Additionally, while Uchiha Izumi’s existence proves that children with one non-clan parent can still inherit a doujutsu, Kumo has no way of knowing that, considering how old Izumi was when she was murdered and the (probable) difficulties in obtaining info on her parentage.
TLDR: Hinata was probably kidnapped by Kumogakure because Ao of Kirigakure stole a Byakugan and Kumo wanted a Byakugan user to fight him off. (And picking her was likely specific, but not because she was a girl.)

(Two part ask because space) As one of the go to Ladies in Saiz-ology, why do you think the writers for the Bride's Memories event had Saizo talk about marriage/husband/wife so much? If I remember right, in the events leading up to (and including) the wedding event, he more or less refused to consider them married. Was it when he came back to mc at the end of his wedding event that changed his mind about it? Their wedding night? What are your thoughts?
(part 2) I just thought, while squeeing my life away, it was strange to call his mc wifey (while thoroughly enjoying it), calling himself her husband (still squeeing), and calling them married. Just seems weird for his character to me (but I am enjoying it so very very much).
————
Hey dearest! A great question, thank you for the ask!!
It is kind of strange for the normal person who isn’t overly obsessed with Saizo and over-analyzing his every scene like a psycho (ME) haha! So this is a very valid concern and question!
So let’s break down the reasons why.
I can only add so many images to this post so apologies for the lack of screen shots, and I won’t harp too much on the fact that Saizo was extremely reluctant to take their relationship to that step because he fears for MCs life. In numerous events, we have seen MCs life threatened or damn near taken away for her relationship with Saizo, so he’s more than happy dancing the line between being together and being able to bounce the minute shit hits the fan so she stays alive.
Also, he does make it seem as if he does not want to marry MC and wants no part of it, but Saizo creates distance A LOT in order to keep MC safe.
Tumblr media
That being said, Saizo is the type that needs a lot of convincing before doing something like a relationship or getting married. He is a thinker, and the type of person who doesn’t give much of a shit with regards to titles and ceremony which we have seen time and time again such as his birthday, that rock ceremony, and countless other little cutesy superstitions and rituals that he thinks are a crock of shit much like, say, Mitsunari. If he loves MC and they’re happy, why is there a need to hold a big feast and ceremony?
However, despite his personality type, he always shows up and does The Thing for MC...whatever that be. Because it makes her happy. Which brings upon the next point as to why he doesn’t want to marry.
I might be paraphrasing a bit but Saizo has said when speaking of marriage that, “There is nothing that awaits a Bride of Iga except the life of a brood mare.”
Now, this actually has a double meaning and they’re both gut-wrenching and fucking horrible.
1) He doesn’t want to marry her and then DIE. Which is an extremely high possibility. He is disgusted by the idea that he will knock her up and then leave her forever, she will have no life but being able to breed and then raise children.
2) The minute MC is with child, Momochi will claim it for his own because it has Saizo’s genes and blood. Momochi will steal ALL of his children from him and train them just like he did Saizo, or worse, and the thought of that alone is enough to make Saizo sick. He never wants that for his children. He wants them to have a happy life like MC had with their parents who love and adore them. And if he gets married to MC, children will ultimately follow, and they will be in grave danger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He doesn’t want the village/Momochi to get their hands on his wife or his children. It’s not that he doesn’t want them, he is just thinking ahead and looking out for their best interest.
He wants to be married to her, badly. He wants to have a family with her, badly. He wants to live a normal happy life with her as his wife.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just as in his route it took time for him to warm up to the idea that MC was alright with this lifestyle. His problem is that he wants MC to have more than he can give her, and that holds him back. And when MC finally gets through to him that she is happy with WHATEVER he gives her, he always takes that step happily, come what may. Same with getting married.
So yes, now that it’s been done and over with, he’s ecstatic to be her husband and call her his wifey. He’s over the moon and excited that they’re married, because he loves her more than anything in this world and the next.
It takes him realizing that while he laments about “ordinary happiness” and not being able to give his MC the picture perfect peaceful life he wishes to, MC has been content and in love all this time and she isn’t going anywhere. It’s the fact that she is a pillar of strength even when he is wavering that he loves her and relies on her so much for guidance in the ways of life and love and marriage.

for naruto asks !! 1, 11, 21, 26, 30, 35 !!
you know my exact answer to so many of these already, you just want me to drag myself in public
good thing i don’t remember what shame feels like
Naruto asks
1) favorite village
OH BOY. okay. okay this one’s a toss-up, actually, because 100% of it is founded on headcanons. lbr if you stan any village other than suna or konoha you’re making everything up and i respect you for it.
SO. my dearest darlingest baby is iwagakure, which THIS DEMON, LATHRINE, and i have started building up from the ground level bc kishimoto doesn’t care and it’s our hidden village now. pros & cons include:
hereditary kage position (like in suna), generally skips a generation bc the tsuchikages don’t tend to die young like other kages. (please ask either of us about how deidara was supposed to inherit tsuchikageship before he defected, PLEASE)
bc of their isolationist tendencies/geographical isolation, iwa has a really rich and undisturbed cultural history and tradition. there’s a huge emphasis on ceremony and celebration, and the iwa nin care about shit like formal uniforms and treat the kage bloodline like feudal royalty.
i read on someone else’s headcanon that iwa is particularly spiritual and im so fucking into that. check back later to hear me holler about religion in fiction and how kishimoto’s vague implication that there are multiple common systems of belief in the naruto universe keeps me up at night
SECOND PLACE, THOUGH, goes to KIRIGAKURE, because its a hot fucking mess. i love every single kiri headcanon on this goddamn website and there are people better suited to talking about it, but im going to volunteer my personal favorite of my own hcs:
kiri nin don’t naturally have pointed teeth, kisame included. it’s a right of passage and a tradition among the seven swordsmen/candidates for induction into the seven swordsmen to have your teeth manually filed, similar to some women on the mentawai islands in indonesia. it started as an intimidation tactic - and an effective one - but it’s sort of a badge of honor and beauty and strength now. most swordsmen don’t live long enough to see the effect it has on their dental health, anyway.
11) how would you wear your headband
around my neck ! i love the way it looks there, and i wear scarves in like 90 degree weather anyway – both in an effort to cover up my eczema/help it heal and also bc it looks fucking sweet
21) in the akatsuki what color would you paint your nails
probably a rich blue. do u think pain would let me put glitter on em
26) favorite uchiha
dont make me choose between my BABIES – ok the answer is itachi. the answer HAS to be itachi i LOVE HIM i own his RING (which has suspiciously vanished, god is trying to keep me from wearing it to school) i LOVE MY DEAD GAY SON.
i do, however, deeply cherish most uchiha. fugaku and obito can absolutely suck my nuts (noah fence obito stans i just don’t jive with him) but madara? sasuke? shisui? mikoto? kisame, in his dreams? all my babies.
30) otp
kisaita. i mean i have SO MANY ships i love (uhhh top five AFTER kisaita are shikacho, kakuhida, sakuino, sasunaru, kakagai) but holy shit my world turns for kisaita.
they’re both so broiled in self-loathing and deal with it in such different ways – itachi buries it under duty and obligation and doing the Right Thing and kisame wears it like a badge of honor, like he earned his ugliness bc facing the reality that he’s a victim is too difficult for him.
neither of them think they deserve affection but find it in the other in ways they could never have imagined.
kisame hates liars and falsehood so much he’s willing to help obito end free will and yet he’s partnered with and truly, honestly loves a double agent who, despite loving him back, would kill him for konoha and sasuke without a moment’s hesitation.
they’re both victims of the destructive, toxic hidden village system and hurt so, so badly, but they’re also perpetrators of war crimes and great horror who do, i think, take genuine pleasure in that conflict and carnage. even itachi. i think if they hadn’t learned to relish in that destruction – whether its just to express their internal pain or to enact some kind of small, inconsequential vengeance for what was taken from them, or if there’s any rhyme or reason to it at all – i think it would have killed them to do what they do.
oh my god you guys i love kisaita so MUCH
35) what ninja occupation would you choose
with these lungs? fresh corpse
UHHHH unaffiliated/missing medinin. the hidden village system is BULLSHIT and i want to live in the woods and heal war criminals fleeing from the oppressive structure they were raised in. let me specialize in ninja psychology. do you think zabuza would show up to family therapy
