Why Cassandra's Moonstone Armor Sucks
*cracks knuckles and dusts off keyboard*
It's time to finally rip this armor to shreds...figuratively because it's indestructible XD
And big shoutout to @whosbex @archivedwoods @th3p0rtalmaker @the-reverse-mermaid @aziraphalesbookkeeper and @majorabbey who all wanted to see this. I thank you all so much for your patience 🥰
Tumblr media
Don't get me wrong there are some elements of this that absolutely work. The blue and black is a wonderful color scheme, especially that blue swirl that goes down and around Cass's body. And the spikes on the shoulders, forearms, and calves looks super cool and gives off a more black rock feel and a very intimidating silhouette. But...that's about all it does right.
1- It doesn't fit Cassandra's sense of style at all
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In all the outfits we can see Cass wear throughout the show, we can very easily get a sense of exactly what her style is. It’s very clear that she dresses conservatively. And especially in armor she values practicality above all else. Her clothing has to serve its respective purpose. And up until season 3 the only revealing thing she wears is her island outfit and even then that’s pretty modest. And the moonstone armor comes along and completely disregards her established sense of style.
2- It undermines the moonstone's capabilities
We get it very explicitly confirmed that the Moonstone made the Dark Kingdom, and made Cass's tower as well. We see the amount of detail it puts into buildings. Even the rocks, the most simple thing it can make, are magically complex enough to know to seek out the Sundrop. And you're telling me that this thing can't make better armor than that?? Nuh uh, no way. I don't buy it. There’s absolutely no reason for the moonstone to provide a skin tight catsuit with a few spikes when we know its power can be much more sturdy and intimidating.
3- It's Chris Sonneburg's fantasies showing through
Those of you who have been in this fandom know the crush that Chris, the director, has on Cass. She's supposedly based on his college crush or something, and from day one he always wanted Cass to be the villain and plan to betray Rapunzel even as far back as the very beginning of the show. And of course, don't you want to see your crush in something hot? Therefore, I'm certain that the retaining of the catsuit was his idea. Because if you look at the moonstone concept art you can see more and more the visual leaning into a catsuit rather than actual armor
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4- It's not at all practical or historically accurate
For reference, THIS is what armor has typically looked like throughout history
Tumblr media
And even in works of fantasy you still have some version or variant of armor like this. Throughout the middle ages you can see just how tanky armor used to be. But as you can see, the moonstone armor looks nothing like that. It doesn't at all look like it could realistically defend a person.
Granted Cass's guard uniform is also kinda form fitting like the moonstone armor, but there’s still protective elements of it. The helmet, the breastplate. You could still believe that that is practical armor. Despite it being indestructible, the moonstone….is not at all practical armor. It doesn't look like it belongs in history or even fantasy. It is so obviously modern it’s almost painful.
5- It makes her disappear.
This is actually something that @moltenhair pointed out a while back that I never realized. There's too much black in there. A lot of the time we see Moonssandra at night and because there's so much black on her armor it makes her fade into the background to the point where she looks like a floating head and hand because the blue is all that really catches your eye about the design. Granted one can make the argument that this could have been done on purpose because taking and using the moonstone isn't actually giving Cass the spotlight she thinks it is but...eh...it's a loose argument.

While reviewing Hanako-kun after school I realized that Tsukasa can appear clearly in the photograph taken by the recording group, however, Hanako appears distorted and like a dark spot/shadow.
But, I thought it was weird that Tsukasa could actually come out, so I thought to myself that maybe it's because he's a yorishiro and not a ghost/spectre like Hanako is.
The first time I read it I thought it was funny (and a little sad because I couldn't get Yashiro and Kou in the photo) and a little realistic that it does not appear correctly in the image because it is a ghost and, in real life , this is how spirits usually look if they are captured in photos: blurs.
And that led me to think, what are yorishiros really? Specters, objects, the original or realistic representations and, dare I say, alive, real, brought back to life or taken from the afterlife in the case of Sumire and Tsukasa?
Maybe I'm wrong but, I'm very sure that Tsuchigomori's yorishiro is the real moonstone that Amane gave him and not a replica; He had to keep it and, when Amane's death caught him off guard and greatly impacted him, became his yorishiro; idon't think he threw her away, otherwise she wouldn't have become his yorishiro.
Yako's scissors were given to her as a gift and they were something precious to her, she protected them and took great care of them, her precious gift, the memory of her beloved Misaki. (Although it is unknown how or when it became one of the mysteries, I highly doubt that Yako neglected those scissors, so they must have been intact or, at least, at her hands at the time of her appointment as the Second Mystery.
Shijima-san's notebook belonged to Mei-chan, where she drew the sketch of the tower and Shijima-san. It's probably the same one, after all, it's where Shijima-san was born.
Even Sumire and Tsukasa (who was introduced to us first, but I'll be honest, it never crossed my mind that he could be a yorishiro:[) human yorishiros are introduced to us, and they're both dead.
How are they selected? ¿Are there requirements to be able to be a yorishiro?
With inanimate yorishiros it can be easy, a treasured memory, something that made you witness an event that you never believed would happen or was impossible, a wish of someone who could not fulfill and it is your turn to do it, something that you longed for or long for. Who knows, it's interesting how each yorishiro object that has been presented to us represents different things for each mystery, and it is beautiful and melancholic as Aidairo represents them.
Except Sumire and Tsukasa are yorishiros too, and they're both dead.
Are humans different? Do they have to be dead to be yorishiros? Or can they be yorishiros as long as their possessor is a Mystery? Sumire and Tsukasa died first than their possessors, one by a sacrifice to which they condemned and another by the hand of his twin brother.
However, I don't think their dead status has anything to do with it. Or at least, not their death itself, but what they represented and meant to Hakubo and Amane, and in which they both died.
Hakubo killed the village (for Sumire, a way to show how affected he was by her, his way of showing love perhaps) and Amane committed suicide (after killing Tsukasa, and we still don't know what led him to do it).
Although even then, it may just be what they both meant to each other respectively.Hakubo did not know any other way of relating beyond order-obey, although it seems that with Yorimitsu there was a bit of friendship, but with Sumire it was different. They both accompanied each other as friends/lovers/lifemates. Hakubo loved her, in his own way.
With Amane we know that he wasn't much of a friend in high school, and most likely only had his brother for company during school hours. Adding that we do not know the circumstances of Tsukasa and his family, did his mother continue with her accusations? Did she stop seeing him and treating him like her son? What about his dad?
(Also taking into account that, we know, the entire Yugi family died the same night, but what killed them, or what led them to suicide as the media mentioned/speculated at the time? If the authorities took it as a family suicide, there should have been signs of non-violence inside the house [everything in its place, everything in order], everyone should have been in the same room)
but anyway, there's a good theory about this from another account.
I just wanted to know your opinion about this that came up after going around the bush.
Initially I would just point out that it seems that the yorishiros are not spirits as such given the situation with Tsukasa and his photo with the broadcast group but I digress hahaha, aside, Mitsuba can also appear in the photograph and is a spectrum (made with other spectrums but details) so maybe Aidairo missed that detail, or they took a photo with an Old camera, or they were just having fun at Hanako's expense.
Nice day! <3
Wow, I loved how you built your entire analysis on contexts in general. I'll assume to you that I've thought about this too, about the photographs, but it seems to be something beyond death.
Hanako seems to be different from ordinary ghosts, he is not like Mitsuba, there is something about him that he himself fears. The photo in which he appears with Nene doesn't just have blurs, it has these souls that are apparently suffering, and they are accompanying him.
Tumblr media
You see, the Mokkes are blurs too. Where are Hanako's Joudais? Do these souls have any connection with them? What is Hanako? He was shown with a large black hole in his chest in the original manga and in the pilot as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is this something all ghosts have? Okay, we can think about it, but the logic still doesn't add up. Tsukasa also has a blur on his chest, so why is it in the photo?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are two factors that we have to consider, Nene's cell phone, is it a cell phone that humans use, and what type of device did they use when they took the photo with Mitsuba?
There are pieces missing here.
About the yorishiros, yes, the objects seem to be the real ones, because they are so special and important to the owners, them still having them is something predictable (I wonder if they still exist after having the seals removed)
But the big question is about humans. It's so mysterious how a human can take the form of a yorishiro, is it real? is it a replica? is it a ghost?
Theoretically, Tsukasa should be a ghost because he floats, but Sumire doesn't. There is one thing we have to consider, Sumire was sacrificed, and Tsukasa initially sacrificed himself. Let's remember that Nene said he had a pulse and was warm when he was a child, that is, he wasn't a ghost, nor was Sumire.
Tumblr media
But what about Tsukasa yorishiro? He was born when Hanako murdered him, that is, it was a concrete death and without "apparently" supernatural involvement, he stabbed Tsukasa and he died. It makes sense that he became a ghost and Sumire didn't.
But then, what does the creature in the house do with the sacrifices? Does it consume slowly? Anyway, I digress.
How can someone become a yorishiro? Initially we could even consider that it is the original because of the memories, but the objects also had memories, at the same time, if they are a replica, is the original really dead?
Are you listening? Yes, are you? The sound of silence. No one can answer our question other than Aidairo. We still have no clues as to how a yorishiro is born, only how he "dies".
So yeah, dead status doesn't seem to have that much value, seeing as Sumire was like little Tsukasa, apparently alive in a cursed house. Tsukasa later died, and the proof of this is that when he threw himself into the well, they didn't find his body, that is, Tsukasa was taken in one piece.
When he was stabbed I imagine he actually died, but if that's the case, death is not a prerequisite for becoming a yorishiro. That's because apparently Sumire didn't die, as she was sacrificed in the same way as Tsukasa.
Why didn't Yako turn Misaki into yorishiro? Is it because he had actually died and didn't become supernatural? Tsukasa died and became a supernatural, or he had already become one when he sacrificed himself.
The twins' relationship is very ambiguous, it is a love mixed with remorse, it seems to be a tiring and heavy love, I would like to see more about them, but we don't have many clues other than the current ones.
Anyway, we're still in the dark, it's hard to know how all this works when Aidairo doesn't give us any more clues.

@chenford-prompts Day 5 of 2 Weeks of Chenford: Silence!! I wrote a little ficlet for my Chenford vigilante au, set before "Not Just Pretend" sometime
One of the most important parts of Tim’s life as a vigilante was knowing when to keep quiet. Not just while following a criminal, or while staking someone out. It was more about one’s secret identity, and that of their fellow vigilantes.
There were only a small handful of people who knew about Tim’s work as Orion. Angela and Talia, as his best friends and a pair of incredible smart detectives, had figured it out incredibly fast. They’d actually given him his code name, which he’d objected to at first. Now… it had its uses.
Past that, he had a couple of contacts who knew, and his former army medic who usually patched him up with minimal judgment when he really needed it. And that was all he needed. The less people who knew, the less people there were who could be endangered.
Tim himself didn’t know the secret identity of most of his fellow vigilantes. And if he did know, he stayed silent. That was the job.
There were times, though, when he was really curious about a few of them.
But it didn’t matter. What mattered was doing his job— both as a vigilante, and running his late father’s woodworking shop— and doing it well. Whether or not he knew someone’s secret identity wasn’t important, even if it was—
“Hey, Tim? Earth to Bradford!”
Lifting his head, Tim met Lucy Chen’s inquisitive gaze. “Hi,” she said. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah— fine,” Tim said, waving a hand. “Just lost in thought.”
“I can see that,” Lucy said, looking amused. “Well, do you have enough time for your favorite customer?”
Tim scoffed. “Okay, if anyone’s my favorite customer, it’s your roommate. He’s the one who keeps ordering end tables or whatever he’s got this time.”
“New chairs for the kitchen counter,” Lucy corrected him. “Which I’m here to pick up— and honestly I’m a little offended you didn’t personally work on your favorite customer’s order.”
Arching an unimpressed brow at her, Tim said, “You got Nolan working on it. He’s the best there is. Where’s your receipt?”
Digging in her pocket and retrieving a folded slip of paper, Lucy said, “Well, I like your work.”
There was… plenty Tim could read into that sentence. Lucy Chen was something of an enigma to him. Despite his gruff attitude and his best efforts, she’d stuck around, even dropping in with coffee when she didn’t have an order to pick up. She was friends with Nolan, so it probably made sense.
At least, that was what he told himself.
Shaking his head to dislodge the errant thought, Tim reached out to accept the receipt. And then he saw it.
It was just a ring. Silver band, set with a large white stone. A moonstone. Any other time, Tim wouldn’t have given it a second thought.
Except he knew that ring.
He’d found it, out in the middle of the desert, when his partner had been kidnapped and buried alive.
Lyra. Bringer of light, both literal and figurative. Tim had never met someone so optimistic and kind as well as so blasted stubborn. She’d nearly died half a dozen times in their first year of working together, when he’d finally caved and started to show her the ropes of being a vigilante. The time when a serial killer’s protege had buried her alive had been particularly painful, for all of them.
But he remembered it, every detail. He remembered searching desperately, panic pounding against his chest. And then he spotted it— a tiny silvery gleam in the dust.
He’d never seen Lyra wear any identifying jewelry before. But he’d known, without a single doubt, that the ring was hers. That she’d left it to mark where she’d been buried, that she’d saved herself.
He remembered bringing her back to life. And he remembered returning that ring, almost a week later, after keeping it in his pocket. Every so often, Tim had reached in to touch it, to remind himself she’d made it.
At this point, he’d memorized the shape of that ring. He knew it. But that could only mean…
No way. Chen?
It made sense. Her roommate was a cop, and she had the same fire, even if she acted more easy going.
“Tim? You’re doing that weird spacey thing again.”
“Right— sorry,” Tim said, grabbing the receipt. Checking the number on it, he said, “Uh— actually, this order isn’t ready yet. Nolan’s got some finishing touches to do.”
“Oh, okay,” Lucy said, still eyeing him oddly. In a way that was so familiar, even without the mask, that Tim wondered how he’d possibly missed this. “Um— when should I come back, then?”
Was it really her? There was only one real way to find out.
A test— a Tim Test, in her words. Lyra’s words.
“Try back here on Friday,” he told her, passing back the receipt. “It should be ready then.”
Tucking it back in her pocket, Lucy shot him a smile. “Awesome. Thanks, Tim— see you then.”
Tim was already returning to the ledger he was studying when he said, “See you then, boot.”
Boot. The LAPD unofficial nickname for new rookies. And what Orion had taken to calling Lyra. She’d clearly understood it— another point on the colum of reasons it could be Lucy— and grumbled about it often enough. So it should be exactly the kind of comment that would make her realize who he was.
“See you then,” she said, heading for the door.
Or… maybe not? The bell at the door jingled as it swung closed, and Tim frowned. Was he wrong? Maybe it was just a similar ring. Maybe he’d been reading into things too much. Maybe he just liked the idea of knowing who Lyra was.
Maybe he was over thinking this. Rolling his eyes, he went back to reading the ledger.
Two minutes later, the door swung open with a crash.
“ORION? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?”Hmm, Tim thought as Lucy stalked in, glaring at him in a way that couldn’t quite conceal her delight. So I was right.

A JSE Fanfic
SepticHeroes AU: Part 29
First Part | Previous Part | Read on AO3 at CrystalNinjaPhoenix
Time for more of this AU! Yay! This chapter is all about the guys finding stuff out. Trying to figure out more about Anti-Virus. He's clearly still around, after all, and he's probably planning something. That's what villains tend to do. Jackie visits a hospital, trying to see if he can track down Timekeeper from the records there. And meanwhile, Schneep dons his Specter disguise again and sneaks into SepTech to have a look around. Just in case Marvin is right about McLoughlin being connected. Hope you guys enjoy :)
===============
It felt very strange to casually walk into a hospital wearing his supersuit. Jackie was certainly attracting a lot of stares from people in the waiting room. But he remained calm, walking up to the reception desk like this was the most normal thing in the world. He glanced around the waiting room as he did. St. Ellen’s Hospital was an older one than Greengate General Hospital. That was the one he was used to, the one Schneep worked at. That one had sleek modern furniture and lots of glass decorations, this one was more closed-in, with boxy furniture from the 70s or earlier.
“Ah... can I help you, Windstorm?” Asked the nurse behind the reception desk. He looked nervous—young, too, probably still doing his studies or whatever people did to become nurses and doctors.
“I need to look up the records for some patients who were admitted about two and a half years ago,” Jackie said, silently impressed at how calm he was.
“Of... course.” The nurse nodded. “Um... one second. Let me... page someone more qualified for this.” He reached down to his belt and fumbled with something.
“Right right.” Jackie nodded. “Take all the time you need.” He shifted on his feet awkwardly, looking around the waiting room again. Yep. Everyone was staring. Literally everyone. They all glanced away once he noticed, of course. Except for a couple kids waiting, sitting next to their parents on plastic chairs and holding coloring books and small toys. He smiled at them. Their eyes lit up and they waved back.
Another nurse hurried over from a hallway to the side, joining the first one behind the desk. “Hello, Windstorm,” she said cheerfully. “We’re happy to help. What did you need?”
“I need to look up some records for patients,” Jackie said.
“Which ones?”
“The ones who were admitted after that fight with Timekeeper and Earth Shaker.” Jackie had decided last night to ask for all the patients. It would seem less like he was looking for Dahlia specifically. “The one that knocked down the East SepTech building.”
“Of course.” The nurse smiled. “Ryan here will be happy to pull up the records for them.”
“Um, can I see the physical copies as well?” Jackie asked.
“Of course. Ryan can take you to our records room.”
The young nurse—Ryan, apparently—raised his eyebrows slightly, clearly not expecting to be told to do that. But he nodded. Jackie smiled at him sympathetically. “I’ll be as quick as possible so you can get back to work.”
“No, uh, it’s no problem, sir,” Ryan said. “Follow me this way.” He walked around the desk, down another hallway of the hospital. Jackie followed him silently.
They walked a short way to an elevator at the end of the hallway. Ryan pressed the button to call it, then they both stepped inside when it arrived. Ryan tapped a keycard against a scanner in the elevator then pressed a button for the basement.
The ride was more than a bit awkward.
“So... I guess you don’t get many Heroes visiting,” Jackie said, trying to make conversation.
“Um... not at all while I’ve been here, actually.” Ryan laughed a little. “But uh... June—that’s the lady who showed, uh, showed up at the desk—she said that they used to get Heroes here. Like, uh, Moonstone? Have you heard of her?”
Jackie nodded. “Yeah. She’s cool.”
“Y-yeah, seems like it.”
The elevator arrived, and Ryan led Jackie out into a hallway leading to a +-shaped intersection. This was clearly a more administrative part of the building, with short dark carpet and walls painted pale blue. The lights were a bit dimmer than upstairs. Or maybe they were normal and the clinical lights upstairs were especially bright. “So, uh... the records are archived in, like, alphabetical order,” Ryan said as they walked down the hall and turned a corner. “So it’ll probably be hard to find the people related to this incident just using that. But, uh, I can pull up the records on the digital database and you can look them up with that.”
“That’d be great, Ryan, thanks,” Jackie said.
“No problem.” They arrived at a door with ‘Records’ written on a plaque nailed to the front of it, right under a tinted window. Ryan pressed his keycard to a scanner next to it, then opened up the door. The room was dark. Even turning the lights on, it was still a bit dim. Aside from a desk to the side with an older-looking computer—though not old enough to require a boxy monitor—there were rows and rows of shelves filled with boxes. Ryan hurried over to the desk and sat down at the computer. “The East SepTech incident... wh-what was that, June? May?”
“Late May,” Jackie said. “The date was somewhere in the twenties.”
“Right.” Ryan typed for a while, then nodded. “Here’s a list of everyone admitted because of that super fight.”
Jackie walked to his side and peered at the monitor. He gave a brief scan of the list, but then his eyes landed on a singular name. Jackson, Dahlia. So she was admitted here. As herself, not as Timekeeper. There were a ton of names besides hers. The numbered list ended in the thirties. “I had no idea there were so many people.”
“W-well, do you have any other information you want to know?” Ryan asked.
“Can you narrow it down to the more serious injuries? Like... the really bad ones?”
Ryan nodded. He clicked a little box on the side and most of the names disappeared, leaving only six, Dahlia’s name among them.
“Perfect,” Jackie said. He could pretend to be interested in five other people. “Let’s go in alphabetical order.” He stood up straight. “You stay here, I can do everything myself.”
“Are you sure, uh... sir?” Ryan asked.
Jackie laughed. “Just Windstorm is fine. And I’m sure. I’m a superhero, after all. If I can’t handle looking through some boxes, what can I handle?”
Ryan laughed nervously. “Just... let me know if you need help.”
“Of course.”
Jackie hurried through the first three files. He felt a bit bad just skimming them, but he didn’t really have to know about these guys. And he didn’t want to look at random people’s medical files without their permission, even if it did help disguise what he was really looking into. He occasionally asked Ryan if there was any additional information on the digital database, and Ryan pulled it up in turn. There were no differences for these first three files. The digital database was just as accurate as the paper copies.
Then it was time to look at Dahlia’s. Jackie found it in the J’s—right next to another file with a familiar name. Jameson Jackson. Jackie started slightly, and then noticed two other names nearby. Philip Jackson and Elsbeth Schneeplestein Jackson. So... this was the Jackson family’s preferred hospital. Made sense, then, why JJ would take Dahlia here. Jackie hesitated, then decided to leave the rest of the Jackson family untouched, only taking Dahlia’s—and promising to only look at the information related to the incident.
According to the file, Dahlia had been admitted to the hospital by her brother, Jameson. Just as Jackie suspected. Rubble had landed on her, causing severe injuries, including to the head. That’s what put her in a coma. She also had some broken bones, but given how this was two and a half years ago, those had healed by now. She had been stable besides that, no show of recovering or getting worse. And... nothing more. No records of transfers or anything. “Hey, Ryan?” Jackie called. “Any more information on Dahlia Jackson? Like... this seems pretty serious.”
Ryan already had the file pulled up. “Um... well, it seems she’s not in the hospital anymore.”
“Oh?” Jackie asked.
“Yeah, this says she was transferred to Overridge Hospital in Evoritch. It’s a specialty place for long-term care.”
That was not in the paper copies. “When?”
“Back in July of this year.”
That was also not in the paper copies. But it seems like the paper copies had also been updated in July—probably right before Dahlia disappeared. It was possible that someone forgot to file a notice about the transfer... but Jackie doubted it. He looked back down at the paper copy. The doctor in charge of this was one Dr. Eric Simmons. A neurologist, of course. “Hey, actually. Do you know if I can contact any of these doctors? If I want to follow up on their injuries.”
“Um... I-I’m sure you can find them on our website,” Ryan said slowly.
Website, huh? Not good. Jackie wanted to keep this as offline and away from technology as possible. Who knew what Anti-Virus would do if he knew Jackie was looking into the hero he was holding hostage? “Can I talk to them in person, you think? Since I’m already here?”
Ryan froze, looking very confused for a moment. “Um... you’ll have to talk to June about that, I think?”
“Right.” Jackie nodded. “I’ll do that once we get back up. For now, let’s keep going. Who’s next?”
He quickly passed over the other two files. He pretended to take notes on them, the same as he’d done for the others—and actually done for Dahlia’s—then put everything back and told Ryan he was ready to go. The two of them headed out.
Honestly, the whole thing had slightly disturbed him. The fact that he could just say he was a Hero and walk in and get access to all this private information. It did make things easier, but... there had to be a few other safeguards. They didn’t even ask him to show his League badge, and he’d at least expected that.
He shook his head, pushing the thoughts away. He had to focus on Anti-Virus and Timekeeper. If he could find her, if he could defeat him, then Anti-Virus wouldn’t have any power over Jameson. He wouldn’t have to stay in prison, and could come home... or at least get transferred to a prison with less security, one where Schneep and the others could visit.
Jackie spent the rest of the morning getting information about the various doctors from that nurse, June. She was even kind enough to write down their office hours for him. Apparently the doctor who treated Dahlia, Dr. Simmons, wasn’t in today. This was his day off, he wouldn’t be called in unless it was an emergency. Jackie made a note of that, and said he’d be back tomorrow to talk to this Simmons guy (and, supposedly, the other doctors) in person. Then he turned and left, heading home.
===============
Jackie returned home through his bedroom window. Chase was at work, so he had some time to himself. He didn’t do much, though. Changed out of his supersuit, took a nap, then called the police again to ask about the evidence he’d turned in. The operator directed him to Ace, who said that they would finish examining the tape later that day. “Call back again in the evening, I’ll have an update for you then,” Ace said. “And uh, remember to use the non-emergency line.”
“Right. Sorry.” Jackie had been so worried about the evidence and possibly getting JJ a real trial that he dialed 999 right away. The poor operator probably thought something was really wrong.
Not long after that, Jackie heard the front door open. He stood up from where he was lying in bed and opened his bedroom door, just in time to see Chase and Frosty walking down the hall towards him. “Hey, bro,” Chase said, giving him a tired smile. “You had that hospital thing today, right? How’d it go?”
“Well, turns out I’ll have to go back tomorrow,” Jackie said, sighing.
“Aw, really? That sucks.” Chase shook his head. “I know all about frequent hospital visits, trust me. Never gets more convenient.”
Jackie laughed. “Yeah. How was your day?”
“Dude, I’m exhausted. I’m gonna change out of work clothes and take a nap.”
“Your work clothes aren’t that different from your regular clothes,” Jackie pointed out. “Just another T-shirt and jacket. You could totally nap in that.”
“Shhh, it’s the idea of it. It’ll help me get more comfortable. Gotta change into some sweatpants, too.” Chase headed into his room... then hesitated. “Uh... actually, first, maybe I want to get a snack or something.” He took his phone out of his pocket and set it on the desk. Then looked at Jackie significantly. “Want anything?”
Jackie nodded slowly. He’d left his phone charging on his dresser, so no need to leave it behind. He understood what Chase was getting at.
The two of them went into the kitchen. “D’you think he can affect our TV?” Chase whispered.
Jackie glanced at it. “Maybe if we had a smart TV,” he muttered back. “I’m actually glad we have an old model like that. The game consoles can connect to the internet... but I don’t think they can do that while they’re not on.”
“Let’s keep quiet anyway, just in case,” Chase said, still in that low tone. “Um... so... did you find out anything about Dahlia?”
“Nothing all that new, just that what JJ said on his video about her being supposedly transferred is true,” Jackie confirmed. “The transfer only exists on the digital records, not the paper ones.”
“What if someone just, like, forgot to print that out?”
“It’s possible. But knowing what we do about you-know-who, I’m willing to bet he got into the hospital system and made a fake note about a transfer.”
Chase shivered. “It’s... really fucked that he can do that.”
“Tell me about it. I’m going to talk to the doctor who supervised her tomorrow. Try to see if there’s anything he can tell me.”
“Um...” Chase paused, looking uncertain. “Do you know if... if there were... other people, uh... recovered from the... building? Like... with Dahlia?”
“Yeah, a whole lot,” Jackie confirmed. “And I’m sure there were more in other hospitals, too.”
“Y-Yeah...” Chase trailed off.
Jackie narrowed his eyes. “What is it?”
“I, uh... You know, I was... in that same incident,” Chase said quietly. “That’s how I... lost my memory. And uh... why I need Frosty.” Frosty wagged his tail at the sound of his name, ready to spring into action. “I keep thinking about this... the fact that... I was there. I wonder... if I... saw her.”
Jackie blinked. “Timekeeper?”
Chase nodded. “The outfit... wh-when I saw it, and when I smelled the, uh, concrete dust, I... for a moment, it was like... I was somewhere else.”
“Well... smell is linked to memory, apparently,” Jackie said.
“Maybe... maybe she saved me?” Chase wondered. “Or... something like that?” He shook his head. “I... I want to find her to... know if... we met. Or if... she would know something about me. I-I doubt it, but... I don’t know. It’s worth a shot. But... I know that’s really selfish. So, if you don’t want me to help anymore because of that, I understand.”
“...wait. Are you telling me this because you think I’ll like... kick you out of the search if I find out?” Jackie asked.
“I just... thought you should know about my secret reasons,” Chase said. “My ulterior motives.”
“I don’t think that counts as ‘ulterior motives,’ really,” Jackie said. He put a hand on Chase’s shoulder. “It makes sense that you’d want to learn more about yourself. It’s not a bad thing that you want to find Dahlia so you can talk to her about that.”
Chase hesitated. “I... But like, it’s not... it’s not like I’m just doing it to help—”
“But you’d still want to help even if she didn’t know anything about you, right?” Jackie asked.
“Yeah, of course.”
“Then it’s not ‘ulterior motives.’ That implies that you wouldn’t be doing this if you didn’t think she could help you find out about yourself. But you still would. So it’s like... additional motives.”
Chase looked down at the ground, shifting slightly on his feet. “I just... feel bad about it.”
“Why?”
“Cause it’s like... it’s selfish, like I said. And I don’t want... to bother you... with my shit. You know?”
“I don’t think it’s selfish at all,” Jackie whispered. “And I’d never be bothered by that. I want to help you find out more about your past. I mean, unless you wouldn’t want me to. It’s up to you.”
“I... if you want to help me, I’d like that,” Chase said slowly. “But like... I don’t... I’m not too concerned about actively seeking out my past. I mean, if no one came looking for me after I got fucking... horribly injured, then... it’s probably not much of a past in the first place. But... now that there’s a chance right in front of me... I-I think i have to take it. Does that make sense?”
Jackie nodded. “Yeah, of course. And there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not like you’d leave her if she didn’t have anything for you.”
“God no.” Chase shook his head, looking aghast at the very thought of it.
“Exactly. So it’s not selfish.”
“Not even a little?”
“I guess technically, but everyone deserves to be a little technically-selfish every so often. The trouble begins when you stop caring about people other than yourself. And I know you care a lot about people, Chase.” Jackie smiled, and put a hand on Chase’s shoulder. “So head up, okay?”
“Head up.” Chase nodded. “Uh... do you think I’ll be able to help much? I mean, I dunno what I can do... compared to you and everyone else. Like, you’re all... super at what you do, you know?”
Jackie laughed. “Yeah. I guess so. But you’re super in our hearts, Chase. And hey, who knows? Maybe you’ll be able to find something that the rest of us can’t.”
“Maybe.” Chase smiled weakly.
“...hey.” Jackie lowered his voice. “Don’t... don’t compare yourself to others. Especially not the rest of us. It’s not... i-it’s not fair.”
“I know, I know, it’s not fair to compare myself to, uh... guys with your abilities,” Chase muttered.
“I-it’s not just...” Jackie hesitated. “One of the reasons I put off telling you about... my secret for so long... was because I... I didn’t want you to feel bad about yourself.”
“Oh.” Chase blinked. “That’s... nice.”
“I had a feeling you might do this comparison thing if I told you,” Jackie continued. “And I really didn’t want you to do that. You don’t—there’s nothing you—Y-you’re really great. A-and you shouldn’t beat yourself up for not being an exact copy of the rest of us.”
A bit of a smile flickered across Chase’s face. “Thanks, Jackie.”
“No, I really, really mean it,” Jackie insisted. “You’re really great. You’re like—the first roommate I’ve ever lived with who I’ve a-actually been able to make friends with. Y-you’re so supportive and fun and—and—I-I can’t stress how much you’ve done for me, like, letting me stay in here, a-and being so chill about my secret—You were so genuinely concerned that I was getting into something bad, and so caring in how you approached it—and—and—” He took a breath, and shook his head. “I just... really care about you, and I don’t want you to think that you’re less than the rest of us, not after everything you’ve done.”
“...oh,” Chase breathed.
Jackie nodded. “You’re great, man. I love how chill you are, and how you’re so dedicated to your channel, but how you still have time to have fun with me and Schneep and everyone... even though you have work, too, like, that’s gotta tire you out, but you just don’t give up, you know? I mean, you should rest, of course. I don’t want you to get too tired. And you’re real funny, too, you know?”
Chase laughed. “Alright, alright, I-I get it. You don’t have to pile it on, you know?” He rubbed his eyes. “But... really, thanks. You, uh... really went off there.”
“I’ll gladly go off on this,” Jackie said firmly. “You’re great, Chase. And I don’t want anyone to tell you otherwise. Even yourself.”
“Thanks.” Chase gave him a crooked smile. “Now, uh... I’m actually a little hungry now that I think about it. So I’m gonna heat up some leftover pizza before my nap.”
Jackie laughed. “Oh hey, that doesn’t sound half bad. Maybe I’ll heat up a slice, too.”
“Great, we can put two slices in.”
About ten minutes later, Chase had returned to his room for that nap, and Jackie sat down on the sofa to play some games until dinner. He probably should have been working on finding Anti-Virus, but honestly, he wasn’t even sure where to start. Maybe if he had some time to relax, he’d figure something out.
The problem was that they had absolutely no leads on Anti-Virus. Other than him being a technopath. And that didn’t tell him much. Normally he’d be doing research on weird stuff that might be because of a technopath, but... all that information would be online. And Anti-Virus would probably know that Jackie was doing research on him. It was a bit of a Catch-22, really, he had to look online for information, but he had to avoid being online to keep Anti-Virus in the dark.
He would have to look around the city in person. He highly doubted that Anti-Virus lived outside of Daindover. Otherwise, why would he be so interested in attacking it? SepTech had businesses all over the country. Even if this was SepTech’s home turf, Jackie knew they had big locations elsewhere. And even if Anti-Virus was originally from out of town, Jackie had no doubt he would want to be close to his target.
Jackie’s mind began to wander. Yes, he should look around town for anything suspicious. Maybe this guy had a base of operations somewhere. He’d have to be pretty thorough. Maybe he could get help from Schneep and Marvin on that. The two of them were certainly experienced in sneaking around.
===============
After a couple days of scouting, Schneep felt confident enough to actually venture into the North SepTech location. Only at night, though, when almost everyone had gone home. Apparently the building was never totally empty. There was always a security team guarding the area, even after all other employees had gone home. And the security system seemed pretty high-tech. Schneep recognized a couple camera brands during his scouting—though many of the cameras were nondescript, no doubt made by SepTech themself.
Donning his Specter outfit again felt strange. The last time he’d worn this, he’d tried to break JJ out of jail, tried to convince him that living on the run would be better than living in prison. He couldn’t help but think about that last conversation while he pulled on the coat and boots. But also, he’d done many things he was proud of while wearing this outfit. Maybe it was unusual for him to think of his heists as things to be proud of, but he was. The suit felt like an old friend every time he put it on... even if he couldn’t help but be reminded of Jameson this time.
But that was why he was doing this, wasn’t it? If he could figure out if McLoughlin and SepTech really were connected to Anti-Virus, then he could rescue his cousins. Protect them from him.
Schneep took the train most of the way to the North SepTech building. It was very easy; he just had to hop on when it stopped at the station. He didn’t have to worry about the fare. After all, you could only check people’s tickets if you could see them. Schneep just had to be quiet as he sat there, completely invisible, and waited for his stop.
Some of the SepTech buildings were fancy. The North location was not one of them. It looked like an ordinary office building with a yellowish facade and big windows, the SepTech logo plastered to the top. Schneep circled around to the side. Even while invisible, he preferred to avoid cameras, just in case one of them had infrared vision he didn’t know about. And something he’d learned from years doing this: businesses tended to put their cameras around doors and windows. Which made sense, because most people would need a door or window to get into a building. But Schneep was not “most people.” He could walk right through a wall, where a camera blind spot was.
After walking through his chosen wall, Schneep ended up in a small unisex bathroom—just big enough for two stalls. He headed through another wall and into a ground floor hallway. This was just going to be a short excursion to get the lay of the building. Figure out where they were keeping things, and how much time McLoughlin spent here.
Jackie let it slip to the rest of the group that McLoughlin had a lab here. Schneep was very curious as to where that was, and what was in it. He figured that was a good place to start. Now... where was it? Would it be high in the building? Or below ground? Was there a directory in here somewhere?
There was—Schneep found it in the front entrance hall—but it didn’t say anything about a laboratory. Even so, he looked it over. Nothing much of note. A couple floors of call centers, a couple floors dedicated to SepTech’s marketing, some offices for company bigwigs—oh, there was a floor in the middle completely devoted to file storage. That was worth noting. But no laboratory anywhere, even though every single floor was covered. Meaning either the directory was lying about the contents of its floors, or the lab was underground, in an unlisted basement.
Schneep started looking around for the stairwells and elevators. He’d managed to find an old copy of the SepTech blueprints from a contact of his, but they were, as said, old. The building could’ve been renovated since then. Best to get a lay of the land.
A couple security people were patrolling the area. Every time one approached, Schneep made sure to stop walking and remain intangible so they wouldn’t run into him. He eventually found an elevator at the end of a hallway that wasn’t on the blueprints. And as he looked it over, he saw that the call button was undecorated, unlike all the others that had an arrow pointing upwards. Hmm... suspicious.
Schneep leaned forward, sticking his intangible head through the closed doors and into the elevator shaft. He looked up, then down. The elevator was currently on the next floor down. And the shaft didn’t extend upwards at all. So this must just lead to a basement, not the rest of the building. Jackpot. This must be the lab.
He considered his options. He could just call the elevator and hope nobody noticed, or that they waved it off as a glitch in the system. But he didn’t want to risk that. This was too important. So instead, he took a deep breath, and walked through the closed elevator doors.
Halfway through the short fall, he became solid again, and landed on the roof of the elevator. “Oof!” The elevator jolted a little. He felt the jolt travel through his legs, knees and ankles aching for a moment. But he soon recovered. He became intangible again, dropping through the roof of the elevator and into it. As expected, there was only one button on the inside. There was only one destination. Schneep then stepped through the doors, into this basement floor.
Well, wasn’t this a change of pace? Instead of the office decorations he’d seen on the floor above, this area was more industrial, with white walls and perforated metal for a ceiling and floor. There was only one destination, at the end of a short hallway. Schneep walked down it to a set of double-doors, poking his head inside...
Well. This was definitely a laboratory. Schneep looked around at the wide space, decorated with conveyor belts and monitors and robotic arms. He started wandering around, getting a lay of the land. Looking for anything suspicious.
There were doors lining the sides of the room. Schneep poked his head into them one by one. There were too many to investigate thoroughly, but he could at least figure out what their contents were, if there were any that might have helpful information. The first few he checked had nothing interesting, just a bunch of robotic and metallic parts. One had a bunch of SAMs inside, all turned off. Many of them had compartments open on their side, with half-completed attachments sticking out. SAMs were well-known for their variety of functions, but... something about these attachments... bothered him.
Schneep stepped farther into the room, examining the nearest one. A SAM with blue casing, two compartments open on either side. The lights were off in the room, but Schneep reached up and pressed a button on his goggles, activating night vision. He leaned closer to examine the attachments coming from the compartments—
And jolted back in surprise. “Heilige Scheiße,” he muttered, the words slipping out despite his need for stealth. He recognized these attachments. These were weapons. Specifically, these attachments looked pretty similar to some weapons he’d seen for sale in the underworld. The design was first made by the villain Riot Queen, and it fired beams instead of bullets, but it could still pack a punch.
Schneep quickly turned and examined the other SAMs. He recognized a couple more weapons that were often sold in the black market. And the ones that he didn’t still looked like guns or cannons of some kind. What the hell? Weapons were definitely not part of the SAMs shared with the public!
He quickly left the room, returning to the main lab. The weaponized SAMs weren’t concrete proof that McLoughlin was working with Anti-Virus, but it certainly wasn’t a good sign! Especially since they were tucked away in a side room off his own lab. That probably indicated they were a secret.
Taking a deep breath, Schneep decided to continue checking the rooms. But quickly. He ran into the next side room, and from there continued passing through the rooms through the walls, not even bothering with the main lab. He ran through them quickly, finding not much else of note—
Until he ran into a room with something slightly different. It was still full of mechanical parts, including a big monitor on the wall, but there were a couple more things. A small side room with a toilet and sink, a desk piled high with paper dishes and cups stained with old food, and a bed shoved in the corner of the room. And sleeping on it... was a man.
Schneep stopped in his tracks, staring. Was that... Dr. McLoughlin? He’d done some brief research in preparation of it, and the man’s face resembled the pictures he’d seen. Why was he sleeping here? Didn’t he have his own place? Maybe... this was a spare bedroom? In case he worked late in the lab?
He couldn’t help but step forward, leaning close to McLoughlin. Yep, he was fast asleep, tangled up in the gray blankets on the bed. It felt wrong to just... stare at a guy while he slept. He should get out of here. He could come back some other time, when the guy wasn’t here. With that in mind, he started to turn away—
The monitor on the wall suddenly turned on, its screen pure red. BRAP. BRAP. BRAP. “Intruder alert,” said a robotic voice. “Intruder alert.”
Schneep stiffened. How?! Was there an infrared camera in this room?! Why?! Who would put that in the room they were sleeping in?!
McLoughlin jerked awake with a strangled scream. Over on the desk, something flew up from the surface—a smaller SAM, green and blue, which had been sitting on a small pillow partially hidden by the dirty dishes. “What?! How?!” McLoughlin’s eyes darted around, and Schneep froze. Would he hear his footsteps? McLoughlin pressed a hand to the side of his head. “God...damn it. I told you to change the sound of my alarm! I-I don’t want to hear that sound ever again!”
“Intruder alert,” continued the robotic voice.
“...oh fuck it’s not my alarm,” McLoughlin whispered. He scrambled to his feet—yep, he was probably just crashing here, given how he was still wearing his day clothes. “Intruder alert?! Where?!”
“Motion detection set off in Storage 18,” said the robotic voice.
McLoughlin blinked. “My room? That was probably just me rolling over.”
“Unlikely. The motion was outside the field of the deliberate blind spot.”
McLoughlin looked around the room, not seeing an intruder. “Is it still being set off?”
“No.”
“Display main lab cameras on the monitor in Storage 18.”
The monitor changed from red to a series of boxes—views from security cameras. Schneep’s eyes flicked over to it, quickly taking in the information. Maybe he’d be able to figure out where the cameras are from their view.
McLoughlin leaned close to the monitor, squinting. “Turn down the brightness, fucking hell.” The brightness lowered on command. He scanned it. “Turn on infrared view.” The cameras all switched to the distinctive blues and greens of infrared view. There wasn't much giving off heat in the laboratory. Some comes from machines, some comes from the overhead lights, and that’s just about it. “I don’t... see anything. Can you point out any differences? SAM, you help, too.” The small SAM flew over to his side.
A moment passed. Schneep tried not to move, tried to breathe as evenly as possible. Then the robotic voice returned. “No movement or anomalies detected.” The SAM also shook side to side, a bit like it was shaking its head.
McLoughlin sighed. “Where in Storage 18 was the motion detected? Show me on the camera.”
One of the views filled the whole screen—thankfully, this one didn’t seem to have infrared vision, otherwise Schneep would have been in plain sight. It was a view of this very same room. The footage rewinded the past couple minutes, and a red circle appeared on the screen next to the bed—right where Schneep had been standing. “Here.”
“Yeah, that’s probably just me passing out of the blind spot for a moment,” McLoughlin said. He glanced around the room uneasily. “...I hope.” A moment passed in tense silence. “It’s... 2 o’clock, right? Uh... I’m gonna... go home for the night. Deactivate all security protocols so I can leave. And remember to reactivate them after I leave.”
“Security deactivated,” the robotic voice said.
Schneep immediately turned and left the room, carefully stepping quietly until he passed through a wall back into the main lab. Then he bolted. He ran all the way to the elevator in the hall, where he pressed into the corner. McLoughlin walked into the elevator a while later, activating it, going back to the ground floor. Luckily, the ride was short. Schneep let McLoughlin walk out first, then quickly followed, walking straight through the nearest exterior wall and back out into the night.
God, he hoped McLoughlin hadn’t figured out he was there. He didn’t want a man involved with weaponizing flying robots to know he was in his lab.
===============
“There were guns on the SAMs?!”
“Don’t shout so loud,” Schneep muttered. He’d been unceremoniously awoken that morning—on his day off, mind you—by a knock at the door. Marvin said he was in the area and wanted to stop by to talk about “that stuff I mentioned in your office.” But he’d probably just gotten anxious for results or something. Schneep knew his apartment was pretty out of the way, there was no way Marvin would just be in the area.
“Sorry.” Marvin glanced around. “You don’t... have a computer in here, though. And I left my phone in my bag in the hall. Do you have your phone with you?”
“I do not, I left it in my bedroom, but I want to go back to sleep after this.” Schneep rubbed his eyes. He was leaning back against his sofa while Marvin stood nearby. “I do not have work today, and I had a late night, as you just heard.”
Marvin winced. “Sorry,” he said again. “I didn’t... think about that.”
“Is fine.”
“...but seriously. Guns on the SAMs?” Marvin asked.
“I do not think they were the type to fire bullets, but yes,” Schneep said. “There would probably be no room to store them in a SAM and have them still function. But a couple may have been functional for darts.”
“That’s... very fucking concerning,” Marvin said. “D’you think Anti-Virus asked McLoughlin to do that? Or—do you think he did that on his own as Anti-Virus?”
“I have no idea.” Schneep shook his head. “I found no direct link to Anti-Virus before I had to leave.”
“What would serve as a direct link?”
“Hmm... that is a good question,” Schneep said slowly. “Anti-Virus never directly appeared, so it is not like we will be able to find a supersuit stored somewhere. He may not have one in the first place.” He frowned. “And all of Anti-Virus’s actions have been digital so far... So there may not be physical proof at all. The SAMs may be the best we are getting.”
Marvin shook his head. “Still. Guess we’ll have to look some more. Um, I can probably get into the SepTech buildings and look through files and shit. But... I think you really need to keep an eye on McLoughlin.”
“I will do all I can, but I cannot spend every waking moment spying on him,” Schneep said.
“I wouldn’t make you,” Marvin said. “I just... Jackie really trusts this guy. A-and I don’t... I don’t want to see him make a mistake.”
Schneep looked at Marvin thoughtfully. “You do not want to see him make a mistake you would have.”
“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Marvin said, his face expressionless. But Schneep picked up on that slight tremor in his voice. “Um, I’m sorry for waking you up. You can... go back to bed. Let me know if you find anything.”
“Of course.” Schneep nodded. “See you later, then.”
“See you.” And with that, Marvin turned and headed towards the door. But then he hesitated, turning back. “Should we tell Jackie about this? It’s concerning, even if it’s not Anti-Virus related.”
“I will think about it,” Schneep said. “I think it would sound better coming from me, so do not approach him, yes? If I want to share, I will. For now... I need rest.”
“Right.” Marvin nodded. “Bye, then.”
“Goodbye.”
And Marvin left.
Schneep got up, stretching, and headed back to his bedroom. Should he tell Jackie about the weaponized SAMs in McLoughlin’s lab? He wasn’t sure. He didn’t want Jackie to trust the wrong person. But he knew that Jackie would want solid proof. This seemed pretty fucking solid to him, but he didn’t know if it would pass Jackie’s standards.
He’ll think about it some more once he woke up again. For now, sleep. And later, more planning. McLoughlin was doing something. And they had to figure out what. If he truly was in league with Anti-Virus... or if he was the face behind the mask.

now that i saw you (i can never look away) - chapter 3 preview
“How did you find me?” It seems like the safest question to ask but the hesitation to answer suddenly proves otherwise causing her to hold her breath in anticipation of whatever he’s going to say. His lips part to speak but whatever answer he had just landed on dissipates at the tip of his tongue before becoming actual words. Worry creases between her brows as she watches how it’s a cycle he repeats twice before he’s able to settle on something that she was right to fear. It lands like a punch to the gut and she feels guilty for a whole new set of reasons.  “I got scared.”  It’s vulnerable, raw, and so real. Scared. It’s not out of worry that he needed to find her but rather fear. He doesn’t have to add much else to it for Lucy to understand why. Time might heal all wounds but certain ones leave scars, ones you can see and ones you can’t, Tim taught her that. Lucy may have been the one trapped in the barrel and buried alive but Tim lived his own type of hell as they worked against the clock to find her in time. Tim was the one who dug her out with his bare hands not knowing what they’d find once they got to her; he pulled her limp body out of the barrel and desperately worked to bring her back to life; and while he’s never said it, Lucy knows he was terrified to leave her side, that it was why he stayed with her until she was released from Shaw Memorial. The nightmare she lived was one that cut at him deep, he walked away from it with his own set of scars.  “Tim,” she whispers, almost breathless and barely audible. Her heart breaks a little knowing that not only had she just left him standing completely puzzled in the middle of the dance floor but she unintentionally made him fear for her safety when she became unresponsive as they all tried to reach her. “I’m sorry,” she starts, “I didn’t mean to—I just—I didn’t realize I still had my phone on silent.” At least there’s one truth she’s able to confess and she knows he’s picked up on her guilt from it as it’s enough for him to join her at the bench right beside her.  Her gaze drops to her lap unable to keep looking at him, she’s overwhelmed with so many emotions, and it continues to leave her without the right words. Silence envelops them as Lucy picks on imaginary lint at her lap trying to not to focus on how Tim’s stare bores into her. She doesn’t need to look up to clock the worry that’s deeply carved into his features, or at least that’s what she thinks she’d find it if she were to turn back to him. When his reaction differs from the one she made up in her head she has to look up, turning to him in slight confusion at how unexpected the pivot is. “There’s no quit in you, Chen,” he offers with a warm smile. The familiar sentence takes her back to a moment that means more to her than she's ever let herself admit to. The words he said that day empowered her as they gave her back the control she felt she lost, the needed reminder that she wasn’t a victim but a survivor, and how he revealed that he was the one to actually find her as he tossed back the moonstone ring. One she wears with pride, a symbol of her strength and resilience, a piece of jewelry that’s become her most prized possession because of what Tim said that day in the training room.

Wedding Rings!
@zozo-01 wanted to hear my thoughts on the rest of the boys’ potential wedding rings after my ramble about David’s on EJ’s post so… here we go!
Asher
First of all, this man gets a silicone ring.
He does not trust himself not to utterly ruin a metal one, and silicone is easy to replace and have spares of.
(My husband has two silicone rings. One that’s simple black and came with his real metal wedding ring, and one that’s gunmetal grey with The Mandalorian’s helmet etched into it. It’s actually really cool.)
Asher gets a silicone ring that’s shiny and metallic, but has some Star Trek something etched into it. Whether that be the Enterprise or a quote, IDK
Alternatively he gets something from Halo. Either/or works and fits. We love a nerdy boi
Second alternative: he gets something that closely matches Babe’s. Still silicone but color matching
Milo
Mr. Fashionable. Mr. Stylish.
Milo’s ring is gold.
At least, it looks like it’s gold
In truth, it’s an alloy. Gold is too soft and malleable and even though Milo takes care of his jewelry, he’s also a shifter and knows that a gold ring wouldn’t be practical
He also has a moissanite on his. The band arcs up to the top of the gem so it doesn’t stick out too much from his finger, but there is very much a moissanite.
Milo picked moissanite over a diamond because it’s more ethical, barely lower than a diamond on the hardness scale, and also has a higher brightness index
Y’all. The gem on his ring is reflective and shiny
Maybe Aggro tries to put it in his mouth idk
His and Sweetheart’s anniversary is engraved on the inside of the ring
Sam
Hoo boy! Sam!
Darlin’ gets Sam a ring with meteorite around the middle because his hand doesn’t change as he gets older, therefore he can get a ring that’s hard to resize.
The metal is shiny and durable, and the meteorite is slightly iridescent
It’s comfort fit, with the curved inside, and the edges of the outside are beveled so he can move his fingers without being encumbered.
Gorgeous ring 10/10
Darlin’ argues that his ring does have a stone on it because of the meteorite and Sam always laughs and says it’s not a gemstone so it doesn’t count
Vincent
Mr. Fashionable and Stylish As Well
Vincent’s ring is platinum. Shiny, bright, strong. Expensive
The man likes the finer things in life and his wedding ring should be no exception
The inside is engraved with several significant dates. The day he met Lovely, their first real kiss, the day Lovely turned, the day he proposed, and the day they got married
He also has a large stone on his
Where’s that post about the Solaire rubies so I can properly credit the person? Because that concept lives in my mind rent-free and Vincent absolutely puts his ruby in his wedding ring
Also, comfort fit and beveled outside edges and several extra gemstones lining the middle channel of the ring almost all the way around
Gavin
Gavin’s ring is made of magic so he changes it to match his outfit when he sees fit
The most common though that he seems to prefer the most is a braided band of white, yellow, and rose gold with scattered teeny diamonds
“It goes with everything, deviant!”
If I described all the other designs Gavin morphs his ring into, we’d be here for days
My man is very happy to be taken and he wants it to be visible at all times, thank you very much
Avior
Avior’s ring isn’t a ring so much as it’s a bunch of silver metal stars embedded with star sapphires that stay clustered loosely around his finger because they’re magic and he wants them to.
Starlight loves it
And so do I
Elliott
Elliott’s got a white-gold wedding ring with constellations etched into it, each star a tiny dot of moonstone
Except Brachium in the Libra constellation. That’s an amethyst
He’s got My Dreamboat and his and Sunshine’s wedding date engraved into the inside
He’s also got the comfort fit, but didn’t like beveled edges so it’s not beveled
Geordi
Geordi’s was hard to come up with, tbh
He has a pretty thin ring, comparatively
He goes for tungsten at first, but it oxidizes quickly so after a couple years he switches over to a cobalt chrome one and leaves the tungsten one for traveling or when he doesn’t want to risk his real ring
He also has Live Long and Prosper engraved to the inside
Ollie
I struggled so hard to think of one for Ollie, I’m not gonna lie
He gives Casual Ring Vibes but I wasn’t sure if that meant he got a tungsten one and didn’t particularly care when it oxidized or he just went simple and got a thin gold band just to show he’s happily taken
He also works with his hands a lot fixing up stuff around the house so he definitely has at least one silicone ring
It’s probably purple
Aaron
I’m sorry
Aaron has the boring classic gold wedding ring
Thick band. Straight fit. No beveling
Nothing over-the-top
I’m sorry
I just can’t see him with anything Extra™
He’s a great character but the Milquetoast Ring Vibes™ are... well. They’re there.
Guy

His ring is yellow gold and studded with five small yellow-orange topazes
Topaz is one of the gems that forms in lava tubes
That mix of Earth and Fire, y’know? ;)
Oh wait... were we talking canon or non-canon?
Eh. Who cares
Also wears a silicone ring when working out. His is red
Lasko
White. Gold. Boi
He keeps it simple
There’s an anniversary engraving inside his, but that’s it
Beveled edges and comfort fit all the way
He’s at a computer all the time let his finger be comfortable
James
Platinum babyyyy
We love a classy, high-brow look for our professional businessman Telepath
I wasn’t gonna include him at all but then I remembered his Imperium listener so here you go
He doesn’t really do anything super special. There’s no engraving or etching or stones, but it is Quite Shiny™ on his hand and Very Noticeable
The man is taken and he is going to flaunt it
Morgan
Morgan doesn’t work with his hands much in his day-to-day life, but he still prefers the practical
He goes for a cobalt chrome ring with a thin gold band around the center, preferring the durability over expense or flash, and the ribbon finish rather than the polished finish so scratches are barely noticeable unless someone’s really examining it close up
Beveled edges and comfort fit definitely
Engraved inside is “Into the Future with You” and his wedding date
Sh!+ I almost perfectly described my actual husband’s wedding ring
And there you have it!

Opals and Moonstones
AKA Smol Once Again Uses Birthstones And Birth Flowers To Do Character Analysis. This time we have a twofer, as we'll be looking at Nishiki AND Kiryu! (with a bonus Yumi!) (this is gonna be another long one so please do check out under the cut)
Let's start with Nishikiyama.
His birth date is October 8th, 1968, leaving him with the birthstones opal and tourmaline (originally specifically pink tourmaline but now includes all types).
Now, apparently, tourmaline is the modern birthstone for October, and was made so in 1952 with the approval of the American Gem Society and the National Retail Jewellers Council. I will expand on this stone in another post, because it's the opals I really want to focus on (although it's worth noting that both stones are apparently good for emotional stabilisation, grounding, and healing. :) )
You see, the reason they threw in pink tourmaline as new birthstone is apparently because "In October’s case, the opal was seen by many to be too feminine in appearance and there were questions about its durability". Opals are a very delicate stone, with a water content of 5-10%, which leaves them very vulnerable to cracking under very dry conditions or sudden changes in temperatures. It can even cause them to shrink or expand, so they need a bit more care and maintenance (although you can apparently improve them by wetting them with a lil bit of water, which, idk, I find that fun because fish live in water, 'nishiki' is a koi, you get me?)
We all saw how Nishiki handled suddenly having most of his family and support network ripped from him plus the added pressure of running a new family full of people who very openly disrespect him and see him as some useless weakling they're all obligated to deal with. I'm not the only one who sees the opal parallels, right?
So, opals are a soft, feminine, easily damaged stone, but they also represent love, passion, luck, and healing, and associated with channelling strong emotions. In Roman times it was called the Cupid Stone, and was well-sought after, so overall has a lot of positive meanings and connotations...until a random-ass novel accidentally lead to them being considered bad luck. How dandy.
Now, Kiryu. And by extension, Yumi.
Kiryu's birth date is June 17th, 1968, and Yumi's is June 30th, 1971. (I find it very amusing that Kiryu forgot about Yumi's birthday when it's only a couple of weeks after his lmao)
This means that these lucky ducks actually get three birthstones: alexandrite, pearl, and moonstone.
Alexandrite apparently brings luck, intellect, and prosperity, somewhat similar to tourmaline (it can even be a similar colour to it). Pearls on the other hand symbolise wisdom, especially wisdom gained through experience, as well as calmness, integrity, and loyalty.
I think this is very fitting for our favourite dragon, isn't it? A man whose experiences help him grow from a naive kid into a man who stands by his principles and does whatever he can to help and protect his loved ones althoughitcanbearguedhowmuchhelearnsbutthatsapostforanotherday
But again, there's a particular stone I want to look at, which is of course the moonstone.
It's another stone associated with good luck and fortune, apparently considered sacred in India. It's also a stone of new beginnings and inner growth and strength. Again, fitting for Kiryu's return to Kamurocho after 10 years in the joi- behind bars. However, the reason it interests me is its connections and similarities with opals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See, at first thought/glance, the two stones are very similar. They're (usually) a white colour but reflect an entire rainbow. And yet, they do so differently; moonstones has what's called 'adularescence', a faint glow akin to the moon shining on the ocean's surface, whereas opals are, naturally, 'opalescent', which is more glittering specks of colour.
Both stones are associated, of course, with the moon and the ocean (as are pearls). Both are considered good-luck charms, are meant to ground emotions, and are associated with femininity. Like, look at this:
Tumblr media
Doesn't this sum them up? They're similar but different; Kiryu's calmer, grounding presence combined with Nishiki's more emotional, passionate nature. No wonder the two of them make such a great team!!!
And then I saw this:
Tumblr media
:)))))))
It's just....if we keep up with the birthstone imagery/parallels, this means that the two people Nishiki loves the most are 'spiritually' incompatible. That, and the fact that opals are "softer and more easily damaged compared to moonstone" (see how Kiryu handles adversity vs Nishiki handling his struggles). Yknow despite this long-ass post I really don't know quite how to articulate what I'm trying to say, but I'm hoping you see what I mean?
The two men need each other and are stronger together however this strength is so amplified that when the two are separated Nishiki looks so much weaker in comparison, at least in others eyes. He cries, he gets overwhelmed, he lashes out and yells when he's angry, he makes his emotions known. He cares so much about image and how he presents himself to the world, but he has the bad luck of being next to a man with freakish levels of raw brute strength and a naturally stoic outward appearance that he just isn't as impressive in comparison, even though he's NOT unimpressive or incapable! I'm pretty sure that of the two, Nishiki actually knows what the fuck he's doing!
And that's the thing, people think Nishiki is nothing without Kiryu, himself included, but what is Kiryu without Nishiki? The man loves his brother, and I think he's the only one who seems to have an inkling of Nishiki's worth. The two banter and he's like "oh, like you know so much" about being a yakuza and how one should act, but I do think Kiryu trust Nishiki. He goes along with what he says for the most part because he 'knows' that Nishiki knows what he's talking about. He looks up to Nishiki. He sacrificed his freedom to protect him. After those 10 years he wanted to see his brother again.
Unfortunately, a lot changed in those 10 years. The opal cracked under the pressure. Its power and influence grew but its sense of self and stability shrank, leaving it both far too big and far, far too small for its setting. All it needed was a bit maintenance, a bit of care. But it didn't receive that. And instead, the moonstone ended up alone.

you know i actually think this is one of the worst fucking parts of csa and incest. i despise admitting it, i absolutely dispise it but theres still times when i miss him. not most times. but theres times. theres still times. theres times when i wish i could pretend all the shit just didn't happen. i tried. there were times when i tired. talking to him was only more red flags. but i missed talking to him. were both insane and hes more insane than me but growing up sometimes i felt like maybe because of that at least we understood each other. i do understand him better than anyone else. for the most part he doesnt understand me anymore. but it scares me how well he does at times. three summers ago when i had a mental breakdown i picked up the phone and called him for the first time in years crying like some foolish child wanting her daddys comfort. clearly, i hadnt learned my lesson well enough. sometimes i still want to. foolish and short cited. it was not always bad and that is what makes it hard. if it was it would be easier. i still remember. he would take me to his architecture studio. he taught me how to make mosaics. hed let me help him on his projects, out on the worksite id be measuring and cutting and putting up mozaics. id stay up with his wife at night and make moonstone lamps. he made me sets of moonstone jewerly. i still have them. he made me jewerly and toys out of leather, delicately painted and cut. he taught me how to paint. he taught me how to draw some things. hed stay with me and drew all the things i wanted him too, dragons and portraits of my lps and whatever pokemon i was obsessed with. i still have them. they still smell like him. my artstyle still has his style within it, spirals and swirls so distinctive, a certain surrealism and abstraction, a obsession with gold. down south we would go digging through the dacian ruins in dobrogea, come back with old pieces of ancient pots and pans. he knew history, much of it. he knew theology. he knew anthropology. he still does. when i was little he would buy me these paleontology sets i was obsessed with, youd have to dig out little plastic dinosaur bones, wed spend hours by the black sea as i dug through them. i always wanted to be a paleontologist. is that why i do anthropology now? is that why a fascination and longing for the ancient is within me? he would take me to church. we spend new years in a monestary, sung verses echoing in its small wooden, painted frame. we spend many nights in them. the smell of frankensece in the air. i still burn it. hes still all over me. hes still in my blood. blood of my blood, he is my blood. lately when i look in the mirror i dont see him anymore, but i still know hes there. i look like his mother. i have his eyes and his hair, but lighter. i have the same bad teeth and the same cigarette obsession and my laugh sometimes cracks like his. he was sick. he is sick. he had to give me his sickness because he couldnt carry it alone. unfair. but i still feel responsible for him. i still miss him. i still do. i still remember the reasons i miss him. i missed him. i wanted him to be around more there were times as a child when id cry and think, at least he woukd understand. i hated him. and never wanted to be around him again. and yet i still loved him. what a nightmare. i wish i didnt remember anything at all

What Christmas gifts would the ROs want the most and how would they react if a romanced MC got them the same?
This is intresting.
I love it but I'm also adding our three students and Noah.
Now, this is what they would want.
Alice, she would want a pendant that her father was supposed to give her. Sadly he never had the chance.
Helena would want to feel again like actual contact. Her skin has made it impossible. But there is a short-term fix that will only last a couple of hours.
Lisa, she just wants the Mc that's very simple. She regrets that she never told the Mc her true feelings.
Becca wants the first edition of Alice in Wonderland. She almost got it once at an auction but someone outbid her. Becca thought about stealing it but decided she lost and it might appear again.
Daniella wants this recipe from Miss. Johnson an old lady who runs a bakery. Miss Johnson does not like Daniella. Because the day they meet Daniella messed up the shop by accident. She still helped clean up and visits regularly to eat the baked goods.
Vanessa isn't easy she has everything she could possibly want but this is one thing. A moonstone from the Moon. The government won't allow anyone to buy it and the black market can't get its hands on it. She thought about asking the Thrallens since they have access but Vanessa felt like that would be taken advantage of them.
Azalea don't laugh ok. I'm serious. They want a hot bath and their back scales to be touched. Look this is very intimate VERY. Still not laughing well. Now, this is dangerous on several levels and would require the practice of MC psych.
Kent wants to cook and get to know your friends and all the other ROS. He was an ass but wants to start building bridges for you. And wants to watch your favorite movie for Christmas. That's it just to spend time with the MC.
Naamah can have anything at the snap of her fingers. But what she would really want is a day with the MC just to herself. No interactions no meetings just alone time. And a lot and I mean a lot of S*x. Have fun with that one.
Blaze to see his mom. Blaze has been on the run so long he can't see his mom. Blaze's mom is in prison. She did all the crimes she's charged with but she never was a bad mother. He resents himself for not visiting her.
Zero would like to find the family in the village in Poland that took him in when he was younger. Before he was captured and before he became a hacker. He wants to help them but could never find them even with all his connections.
Now for our other 4 non-ROs and our newcomer Atlas.
Noah wants this picture he had of his wife and child (The child is the same gender as Mc always.)
Lena wants to dance again to perform the ballet dance that she ruined and destroyed her career as a dancer.
Jenny wants to meet her parents. She was left at the adoption center and all that was left was neckless. She keeps it with her always.
Scott wants to thank the doctor that saved his life. Scott never got the chance and has been focused on becoming a better man than the selfish prick he was.
And for a bonus
Atlas wants to see the Northern light with the Mc.
Now for the reactions wow that was a long list.
Alice the moment she sees the pendent tears stream down her face. The last thing she has of her fathers is the pendant. Alice will clutch the pendent and hug you tight. She will be forever grateful for this.
Helena the second she sees the temporary fix. She will go ridged. She used it once because the doctors said it would help it didn't at least not for her. She will ask you to give her about 10 minutes. She will take it and disappear to her bathroom. The moment you see her again she jumps in your arms. She's so happy to feel you not that she could before but the fact you get to see the real her and real skin. Tears will be pouring but she is so happy you just gave her the moon.
Lisa, when she found out, all she could do was look at you. Your eyes were there but when you took your mask off she froze. She cupped your face. She couldn't breathe. "Your alive" Is all she could say hell it's all she could think about. She shifted back to human form and looked at you with love. "I won't waste a single moment ever again."
When Becca sees the book she unwrapped she smiles. Not her fake ones but her genuine smile. She doesn't know how you got it but knows it must be difficult. Her thank you is low. She walks over and places it where she planned on putting it. Her smile is still on her face. She now owns all the first editions she wanted. She moves in front of you and says "I'll pay you back with whatever you want."
Daniella squeals at the sight of the notepad. She already cooking before you get a word ou. By the time she's done she sitting and waiting for you to take the first bite. You share the baked goods together and Leon even eats a plate full.
Vanessa can't breathe at the sight of the stone. No not just one stone three stones. A neckless, bracelet, and ring. She tries them on. Her skin glows pure white essence. She is beaming. She hugs you. You don't feel the cold touch. "I can touch you MC." Vanessa cups your face and can't get over touching you.
When you mention what Azalea wants they blush. Azalea only nods. When you touch her scales they glow and a fragrance comes out. When you smell it you know you will smell like them. Your eyes start to get heavy. When you wake again you are in bed in Azalea's arms.
Kent looks around at the people smiling and laughing. You stand beside him. kent managed to get everyone to smile and laugh. He is happy. When everyone leaves and you put the movie on, he asks you questions about it. And when it's over it's now his favorite as well. He tells you a story of how he and the other agents tried to have normalcy.
Naamah blinks when you tell her your plans for the day. And she can't stop staring at the outfit you wear. "So your mine for the day" You nod. "MC you shouldn't have but Ok fun time." You see darkness then feel her hands and then the bed.
Blaze looks at where you two are. Lady Justice stares with daggers. Then he sees his mother. You smile as you walk in with his mother. They hug for a while. Soon you get introduced. She wants to know all about you. You eat dinner and at the end of the night Blaze hugs you and say thank you.
Zero looks at the man and woman in front of him. You tell him that their parents died 4 years after he left. Zero looks heartbroken. He signs he's sorry and wants to help them as they did him. They go back and forth for a while. But Zero wins. He tells you he will visit them twice a year and help their village. He asks if you want to help him do it.
Now for the others
Noah takes a photograph out of your hand. He thanks you. You leave to give him privacy. When you close the door you see Noah take off his mask. He has glossy eyes looking at it.
Lena starts to breathe erratically at the sight of the stage. "Fuck No, Do you have any Idea what I did." You make contact with her arm. "It's just you and me Lena." You look at the stage "Go dance your last dance for yourself." Lena looks down. "Ok." Lena comes out 30 mins later dressed in her outfit. She dances the most beautiful ballet performance you have ever seen.
Jenny looks out the car window. Two parents and a little child. "That's them." You nod. "Mc I don't know what to do or what to say." You smile ressuring her "It's up to you. You don't have to go now, Jenny." Jenny looks at you. Then back to them. "I'll go." Jenny ends up talking to them for a while when she comes back she says she didn't tell them but wants to get to know them.
Scott stands at the OR door. He already thanked you. The doctor comes out Scott catches them. They talked then Scott sent you a message to meet him in a couple hours. When you pick him up later he is happier.
Atlas looks at the northern lights in awe. You smile at her. "You know Mc. A friend of mine said they would show me the Northern lights." Atlas gets silent. "They never got the chance. They would have liked you." Atlas's hands fade then shimmer "I'm glad we meet Mc. If only you knew." Atlas stops talking you turn to see a shimmer. In place of Atlas.
Alright, that took a while sorry but here you go enjoy.

Could u do a scene analysis on that one part in the Great Tree ep. Where Hector and Adira are fighting and when he beats her in their fight and how sad he looks? Pls and thank you ☺️
Okay second try, here we go!
Tumblr media
So right off the bat, Hector is the very first one to draw his sword, therefore being the first one to escalate the confrontation into a full fledged fight. I think this says a lot about his fighting style, and establishes in a very clear way that he's very much an instigator, an offensive fighter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite this though, Hector seems to act very casual in the buildup of the fight. Adira, on the other hand, seems very frustrated. It's likely that she's frustrated that she has to fight Hector and that he's going to such great lengths to make sure she has no choice but to fight him. He wants this fight to happen and she can't avoid it.
Tumblr media
Also, side note, I love how Eugene is dead to the world until the giant ass tree falls right next to his head. This just proves the man is a VERY heavy sleeper.
But anyway XD
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So right as the fight officially begins we see Hector continuing to be on the offense, while Adira maintains a steady defense. Honestly the more I watch this fight the more I feel like this part specifically was meant to be a parallel to her introduction in Corona Walls.
Tumblr media
And this in my opinion is the most pivotal moment of the entire fight. Cause yeah we’ve seen Adira bring out her sword before, but this is the first time the camera actually really focuses on it. This is the first time it’s seen as a big deal, and rightfully so because she has no choice but to fight her own brother.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“It’s sad to see the once mighty Adira waste her life on a fool’s dream!”
And god this must sting like hell for her. And Hector knows it full well. A part of me wonders if Hector is just mocking her trying to rile her up into fighting or if he genuinely thinks this of her now. Also a cool thing that I just noticed, even with her sword out Adira is still fighting on the defensive. She is just doing everything she can to not hurt Hector.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Talk about wasting lives. You and the Brothers spent yours hiding something NO ONE WAS EVEN LOOKING FOR!"
Adira's clapback seems to imply that before the evacuation there may have been a bit of ...I guess propaganda happening to the Brotherhood. The way Adira words this implies that there's been this idea in the Brotherhood for at least the current team's lifetime if not longer that the entire world is out to get the moonstone. And then Adira went out into the world and realized that that's...just not at all the case.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The moonstone has the power to destroy the world! Keeping its existence secret was the king's wish, and to do anything otherwise is TREASON!"
This right here is where the argument gets really interesting for me because they're both right. Yeah absolutely no one is looking for moonstone and Rapunzel could save the Dark Kingdom. But also, yeah absolutely the moonstone is a very dangerous power that shouldn't be recklessly messed with. And despite what we've seen about how chaotic and dangerous Hector is, I think this is very telling about what Hector's priorities are when the chips are down. He is unwaveringly loyal to the Dark Kingdom not just out of natural loyalty but out of fear as well. As far as he's concerned it's not worth it to mess with the moonstone because the risk of failing is too great. If the fail they'll be convicted by Edmund and tons of people will get hurt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then Hector charges at Adira again and once again she blocks. (side note, smudge frame on that pic on the right XD)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And finally she makes an offensive move. This was actually pointed out by @strivia a while back, if you look closely Adira actually supports Hector through her throw. Instead of just flinging him Adira actually places her foot underneath his torso so she's guiding him and lessening the force of the blow. Also Adira's face here just breaks my heart because she so obviously doesn't wanna throw him but she has no choice. That face just screams "Don't make me do this".
Tumblr media
"I've seen the Sundrop's power firsthand, Hector. And so will you when we return to the Dark Kingdom."
This line also just shatters my heart because Adira was so hopeful that even despite their disagreement Hector would still join her and come home. She still had faith that he would help her. He has hope that things can get better for them.
But unfortunately, Hector doesn't have that hope. I couldn't find a good screenshot of it but Hector actually looks quite melancholy at Adira's words. And he especially doesn't throw Adira with the same "mercy" she gave him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Instead he takes her open hand and uses it to fling her VERY hard into the tree, so hard that it knocks her out. It's hard to tell but I think Hector also uses the weight and force of the throw to flip himself back over.
Tumblr media
And yet...at the very end we get the hint that despite his forcing Adira to fight him, he didn't want to fight either. He hangs his head, he has to look away from her before he can even finish speaking. This is a big hint that Hector absolutely is just as upset as Adira is at their situation. But he's just jaded, scared, and loyal enough to accept the reality as something that can't possibly be changed for the better.

ABOUT APPEREANCES - ACCESORIES
Tumblr media
I've always wanted but never got to write about the outside, so to speak-- how Lydia presents herself. What she wears, what she smells like. And in the book saga, it's very important because it's usually representative of the characters. Jewerly, for example! Most sorceresses in the saga have distinctive jewerly ( triss has lapislazuli, yenna has an obsidian star, phil agate and so ), and we know it's a big deal because it's used to amplify power. Their perfumes are, as well, a reflection of who they are. So have Lyd's bc I said so.
jewerly: MOONSTONE
Lydia wears a single thin silver chain (close to her neck almost like a choker necklace) with a moonstone shaped as a teardrop. It's small and delicate. While beautiful and representative of femininity and romance, compared to others moonstone is a very fragile stone that can easily be broken.
perfume: JASMINE
Lydia smells distinctively of jasmines. Jasmines mean beauty, purity, modesty and are a symbol of love and devotion. Lydia's love and devotion defines her, yet she picked that scent even before she met the sole recipient of those feelings.
clothing: DARK&MODEST
While it's not the colour scheme she actually likes, Lydia usually wears dark clothes. Either black or dark red, purple, brown, green and blue. It helps her not stand out and blend in, be nothing but a shadow, where she thrives. The dresses she wears usually conceal her from neck to toe, and more often than not she binds her chest. Her favourite fabric is silk. The dresses are tight and she does wear a lot of corsets, but it is very rare of her to show skin.
make up: LIGHT
She's an amazing painter, has a steady hand and a good eye for colours. Her make up reflects those skills and she does enjoy wearing it. It's always subtle-- she doesn't like to draw attention, so she usually goes for natural looks. She does love lipstick and owns an absurd variety of colours.
Tumblr media
some extra bits about everything bc i felt like it
necklace:
(resurrection AU verse) we know Lydia's body was dragged by redanian soldiers when she died in Thanedd. Philippa recovered her corpse, but the necklace was gone. It's the only thing she misses from her years as a sorceress, not because of the meaning but because of something much more basic as thinking it was a pretty necklace.
perfume:
Lydia loves painting but between assisting and research, I don't think she had the time to ALWAYS have a painting in the doings. Besides I do think, in the later years, that she paints only when comissioned to do so. When she does, besides jasmine, Lydia has to carry the scent of turpentine or whatever lore-friendly-medieval-stuff used to thin oil painting/as a solvent.
wardrobe:
listen to me, Lydia means 'the beautiful one' and I'm sure it's a play on the fact that she's beyond disfigured, but--- she IS beautiful. The thing is, she does a marvelous job concealing it. Almost no one in the council, chapter, brotherhood knows the body Lydia hides under her dresses. They have also probably never seen her with her hair down.
About the colour scheme, as I said, she wears dark colours but does not like them. She actually favours pastels and white, she looooves wearing white.
make up:
When the elven-anathema.exe exploded, Lydia put on a masterful illusion that makes her face appear normal because trust me, it's a beyond hideous sight. It's not a pretty scar: we're talking about a face that's out of your most gruesome nightmare. You can see the teeth, muscle, tendons and her skull-- and mind you, it's not even a full skull, you can see the bones mended poorly and it's sunken. I mean it when I say the illusion is there so people don't faint at the sight.
Her huge lipstick collection becomes useless then, since she has no lips to paint. She does experiment with her illusion and when she wakes up, she will sit in front of a vanity and shift the colour of her made-up lips until she gets a shade she likes.

fire and ice - chapter 19
< Chapter 18 || Index || Chapter 20 >
He raced back toward the stash of fresh-kill he’d left beneath the oak tree. Halfway home, the scent of a fresh Twoleg trail stopped him in his tracks, reminding him of Princess. He wondered whether there was time to follow the trail back to Twolegplace. He wanted to know if she had kitted yet. But Princess would probably be safely tucked up in her Twoleg nest by now, and the Clan needed the fresh-kill. With an uneasy twinge, Fire Heart realized that Gray Stripe wasn’t the only one with divided loyalties.
Rain began to drip from the ends of his whiskers. He shook the drops away and bounded on toward his hoard of fresh-kill.
The camp was silent by the time he arrived, the cats sheltering in their dens. Fire Heart crossed the muddy clearing and dropped his catch on the sheltered pile. Taking a piece for himself, he trotted toward the warriors’ den. There was no way he was eating outside tonight.
He pushed his head inside the den. Gray Stripe was dozing, to Fire Heart’s relief. He might actually get better if he wasn’t charging through the forest with Silver Stream.
“He's had his share, but Violet Fang hasn’t taken any fresh-kill yet.” White Flower’s meow sounded from the shadows. “I don't think Stone Pelt has, either. They've been too busy. I think they would appreciate that mouse you’re carrying.”
Fire Heart nodded and backed out again. If Violet Fang was too busy to fetch food, it must mean the sickness in the camp was getting worse. Fire Heart raced across the clearing, stopping only to pick up another mouse before hurrying through the fern tunnel.
A gray tabby kit with folded ears lay in a nest of moss in the bracken at the edge of the clearing. Violet Fang crouched beside her, trying to persuade her to eat some herbs. Stone Pelt sat nearby, mixing herbs. The kit sniffled pitifully, blinking up at her with streaming eyes and nose. Fire Heart realized this must be the kit with whitecough.
Violet Fang turned when she heard Fire Heart arrive. “Is that for us?” she meowed, looking at the mice hanging from Fire Heart’s mouth. He nodded and dropped them on the ground. “Thanks. Now that you’re here, why don’t you and Stone Pelt see if you can persuade Mistle Drop to take her medicine?” She padded over to the mice, moving stiffly from her old shoulder injury, and began to gnaw on one hungrily.
Stone Pelt stopped what he was doing and approached the kit. Mistle Drop looked up at him, opening her tiny mouth in a rasping, painful cough. The large tom flattened his ears for a moment, pity and discomfort showing in his body language.
Fire Heart gently pushed a small green herb toward the kit. “If you want to be a warrior, you’ll have to get used to swallowing herbs like these.” he mewed. “When you make your trip to the Moonstone, you have to eat herbs far more bitter than this.”
The kit looked wonderingly at him through half-closed eyes.
“Yeah. Think of it as practice,” Stone Pelt told her, nodding encouragingly, swallowing dry. “Practice for when you become a warrior.” he twitched his battle scarred ears, as if tempting the kit with the thought of warrior life.
Mistle Drop reached forward and took a tentative mouthful. Fire Heart gave her an encouraging purr.
"All kits dream of being warriors." Stone Pelt commented. "Well. Most of them, anyway. Leaf Spots herself wanted to be a clan leader before she found her calling."
Fire Heart looked at the healer apprentice, seeing saddened green-blue eyes. "You must really miss her."
Stone Pelt nodded slowly. "It's been getting easier to wake up without her in the den… But it's difficult to get used to doing this without her. I'm used to injuries, but sickness…" he sighed. "Anyhow, I better eat before Violet Fang threatens to take away what's left of my ears again."
Violet Fang appeared at his side. “I would.” she meowed, earning a tired purr from the gray tom as he padded towards his mouse.
After he started eating, Violet Fang gestured with her nose, and Fire Heart understood she wanted to talk to him. He followed her to the shelter of the tall rock where she slept. The rain was still falling, and the healers' matted gray fur was soaked, her sodden tail dragging in the dirt.
“Blue Fur has whitecough.” she meowed gravely.
Fire Heart's mouth went dry. “But… whitecough isn’t that serious, right?”
Violet Fang shook her head. “It came on very quickly.” she meowed, “And it’s affected her badly.” Fire Heart’s stomach tightened as he remembered the dwindling number of lives left to the Clan leader. “I warned her to stay away from the other sick cats, but she wanted to see them, especially now that Brindle Face's kits are getting sick.” Violet Fang went on. “She’s sleeping in her den at the moment. Frost Shine is watching her.”
The fear in Violet Fang's eyes made Fire Heart wonder if she knew the truth about Blue Fur's lives. Fire Heart had assumed he was the only cat in the camp whom the leader had shared her secret with. The rest of the Clan thought she had four lives left, but perhaps a healer could sense these things instinctively.
The truth was, if Blue Fur lost this life, she would have only one more left.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" He asked tentatively.
The old molly shook her head. "For now, no. Just… stay safe, Fire Heart."
***
The rain continued for the next couple days. The night of the full moon came and went. With how heavy and dark the clouds were, cat was concerned about the Gathering - without the moon visible above the great oaks, there wouldn't be one.
That morning, by sunhigh, the clouds finally began to clear, showing the pale blue hidden behind them. A somber air hung over the clearing as the Clan waited for news of their leader - her whitecough refused to ease its clutch, and she had been too feverish to stay awake long.
Fire Heart crept out from the patch of brambles by the boundary wall, where he’d sheltered since dawn, when he watched Tiger's Claw take the dawn patrol out. Despite the moisture in the air, he could still taste the scent of the Thunderpath from his recent dreams on the roof of his mouth. He padded over to Blue Fur's den on the side of Highrock, pads pricking with a sense of foreboding. There was no sound from within. As he turned away, he ran into Mossy Patch carrying food to the nursery. She tipped her head questioningly to one side, yellow eyes round with worry. Fire Heart knew she was hoping for news of Blue Fur. He shrugged and shook his head.
He could see Bracken Leaf and Blazing Cinder lounging outside their den, looking bored. Sand Storm had started coughing, forcing her and her apprentice to take the day off. Mossy Patch had also stayed in camp to watch over her family.
Suddenly the lichen at Blue Fur's den swished and Frost Shine burst through. She raced across the clearing to healers' den and reappeared within moments with the two cats behind her.
Fire Heart bounded over to Blue Fur's den just as Violet Fang and Stone Pelt pushed through the hanging lichen. He stopped outside and sat down, his heart racing. Frost Shine peered out.
“What’s wrong?” Fire Heart asked, his voice trembling.
Frost Shine closed her eyes. “She has greencough,” she told him bleakly. “Stand watch and make sure no one comes inside.” She ducked back inside.
Fire Heart sat motionless as shock flooded through him. No… if Blue Fur had greencough, her last lives were truly at risk.
A sharp yowl outside the camp made him turn and look toward the gorse tunnel. A cough sounded as Sand Storm put her head out of the warriors' den, startled. Dusty Earth exploded into the clearing and skidded to a halt beside Fire Heart. “I’ve come from Tiger's Claw.” he panted. “I have a message for Blue Fur.”
“She’s sick.” Fire Heart replied, getting over his shock. “You can’t go in.”
Dusty Earth flicked his tail impatiently. “Tiger's Claw needs to see her at the Thunderpath. It’s very urgent.”
“What’s wrong?”
The brown tom glared at him. “Tiger's Claw asked for Thunder Blue Fur.” he sneered. “Not some kittypet pretending to be a warrior!”
Fury shot through Fire Heart and he unsheathed his claws. “I'm as much of a warrior as you, Dusty Earth. And Blue Fur can’t leave the camp.” he growled. He flattened his ears and moved so that he blocked the entrance to his leader’s den.
“Fire Heart is right.” Violet Fang's rough meow sounded behind him. She had come out of the den.
Dusty Earth looked at the healer, shrinking beneath her orange gaze. “Tiger's Claw has found evidence of ShadowClan warriors on our side of the border." he meowed. “They’ve invaded our territory!”
Despite his momentary anger, Fire Heart felt his stomach sink even further. He'd hoped that the ShadowClan scent had been an one-off thing. Now, two Clans were trying to get their territory in leaf-bare, there was no way this wouldn't end in war.
But the healer wasn’t interested in Dusty Earth's report. She turned to Fire Heart, her eyes filled with urgency. “Fire Heart." she meowed. “Tell me, do you know whether there is any catmint in Twolegplace?”
“Catmint?” Fire Heart echoed.
“I need it for Blue Fur." she explained. “It’s an herb I haven’t used for moons, but it's the best medicine for greencough.” The medicine cat had Fire Heart’s full attention now. She continued. “It's very rare in the forest, and usually grows in Twoleg territory. It has soft leaves, small purple flowers, and an irresistible sweet scent...”
A memory shot through Fire Heart's mind, and interrupted Violet Fang. “Yes, I know where to find some!” He had never seen it in the woods, but as a kit he had rolled in a patch in his Twoleg home.
“Good.” replied Violet Fang. “I need as much as you can carry, and fast.”
“What about Tiger's Claw?” demanded Dusty Earth.
“He will have to deal with it on his own for the moment!” the healer snapped.
Small pawsteps sounded as Blazing Cinder, who had been watching them from the tree stump, bounded up to them. “Deal with what himself?” she mewed excitedly.
Dusty Earth ignored the apprentice. “ShadowClan could be in our territory by now!” he hissed.
Blazing Cinder's eyes widened but she held her tongue.
Violet Fang paused to think. “Where’s White Flower and Black Leopard?” she asked.
“He's patrolling Sunningrocks with Misty Step and Willow Branch.” Dusty Earth answered. "Mother is out with her apprentice."
Violet Fang nodded. “With Blue Fur sick and Fire Heart fetching catmint, we can’t risk sending any more warriors out of the camp. If ShadowClan is in our territory, it might attack here. They’ve done it before.” she reminded him grimly.
“If I’m quick getting the catmint.” Fire Heart put in. “I could meet Tiger's Claw afterward and bring back his message for Blue Fur.”
Dusty Earth's eyes flashed. “But he wants Blue Fur to see the evidence for herself. ShadowClan has left the remains of fresh-kill on our side of the Thunderpath!”
Violet Fang silenced him with a growl. “Blue Fur doesn’t need to see the evidence.” she rasped. “The word of her deputy ought to be enough.”
“Tiger's Claw just needs to be told that she can’t come." meowed Fire Heart. “I’ll take the message to him after I’ve fetched the catmint. Where is he?”
“I’ll go!” Dusty Earth spat. "You think you're a better messenger than me just because Blue Fur let you fumble along with real warriors to bring WindClan back?" He threw Fire Heart a look of pure hatred.
But Violet Fang had no time for quarrels. “The Clan will need protecting while Fire Heart is gone!” she hissed at Dusty Earth, flattening her ears. “Isn’t protecting our queens and elders important enough for you? Now, where is Tiger's Claw?”
Dusty Earth shrunk. “Beside the burned ash tree that overhangs the Thunderpath.” he replied sulkily.
“Right.” the healer growled. “Go now, Fire Heart! Quickly!”
As Fire Heart sped away across the clearing, he heard small pawsteps sprinting after him. “Fire Heart, wait!”
“Go back to your den, Blazing Cinder.” he meowed over his shoulder without slowing down.
“But I could go and give Tiger's Claw the message while you get the catmint! I'm really fast!”
Fire Heart gritted his teeth, and he paused by the fronds of gorse. How would he get her to stay back? But then, Sand Storm ran to the two of them, her breaths sounding ragged from her cold. "You heard him, Blazing Cinder! Back to your den, this is too dangerous for you!" The molly hissed.
Blazing Cinder whipped around to look at her. "You taught me battle moves! I'll be safe!"
Sand Storm stood between the apprentice and the gorse tunnel, back arched. "You just became an apprentice, you're no more match for ShadowClan warriors than you were as a kit!" She spat. "Go back to your den!"
Blazing Cinder looked crushed at her mentor's harsh words. Fire Heart felt bad, but Sand Storm's harshness would now be the best thing to keep the small gray molly from putting herself in harm's way. He gave Sand Storm a brisk nod, then charged out of camp towards Twolegplace.

He's kept the design hidden from her for weeks now, working on it when he knows for sure he's alone. They guy owed him a favor and it was time to cash in on it, all he had to do was design it.
A fox bounding after something, paused in movement, with moonstone eyes, Something he found fitting, twisted into a ring. Mischief and freedom in the expression. The design itself he was proud of but the ring has turned out just as pretty.
He left the small, unassuming box out on the counter before he left that morning, with a red silk ribbon binding it together.
Happy birthday Kathrine. Hope you like it - Jer.
Tumblr media
A box? Someone remembered her birthday... odd, she hasn't told many people here in mystic falls... Stefan must have told someone and it went through the grape vine.... but who left it...?
She plucks the little card up and immediately her brows shot into her hairline. Of all the people it could have been from, this was the second to last one she expected... Jeremy...
The doppelganger snatched up the box, eager to see what the stoner kid left for her, wholly expecting a gum wrapper twisted into a ring like most high school boys do-
Much to her surprise its actually GORGEOUS, and very well crafted...
This had to be an original design, not one of those tv orderable ones you get on st patricks day or some shit...
But does it even- it does. It fits.... did he guess? Or did he know Elena's? Katherine cant help but smile as she looks at the ring on her finger... its absolutely gorgeous... She might even be nice to him later.

I’m Moon Knight. AMA.
I’m Moon Knight, ask me anything
Why weren't you in the battle against Thanos?
I was I just run on LST
Hello! What side were you on in the Avengers' Civil War?
What side was the moon on? I was on the moon.
Are you british? Why do you sound british in some videos and american in others?
Only of chewsday
I like ur suit it looks so cool!! why doyou have multiple tho?? also do u know DD? one time I met him adn he had a bruise on his face, when I asked him if he was ok, he said and I quote "moon knight just punched me in the face" and then just disappeared, it was wild man
One is the 2024 winter collection and the other is the 2025 spring collection. Daredevil’s alright we kissed and made up
Did you sign the Sokovia Accords?
What?
Hi Moon Knight I love your costume! I was wondering what’s in your utility pouch/bag?
Crystals! I have Obsidian (shield against physical and emotional negativity), Jasper(protect from and absorb negative vibes), Amethyst(healthy choices), Moonstone(encourage inner growth and strength) and a couple more :) also silver bullet in case of werewolves
What is the source of your powers? I’ve been watching videos of how your fighting style has changed throughout the years and I was wondering if there is a particular reason why your fighting style has changed so much?
Redbull and spite. Style depends on my mood.
No but for real, thoughts on the accords?
I thought we’d move past following the aftermath of the Decimation. The accords were nullified in 2019 so my hypothetical support or lack thereof is completely inconsequential.
Why did Ant-Man say that Dracula owes you money on his podcast? Are you talking about the fictional vampire or do you mean to imply that he’s real and that the vampires exist?
He knows what he did.
Are you ok???
Yes! Thanks for asking :)
Hello!! If you could team up with any hero who would it be?
I am not interested in collaborating with any other hero, it’s too much hassle to coordinate with other enhanced individuals, both on a practical and interpersonal level. If anything, planned “team-ups” are more of a nuance than an aid. If someone happens to be working on the same case as me, I will do whatever I see as necessary to successfully complete the mission.
What’s your training routine?
I’m vegan. Being vegan just makes you better than most people.
I’m so fucking sick of these vigilantes are you must be insane to think that your self righteous “ideals” constitute breaking the law. If you were really interested in helping people you joined the police or military or the Avengers and not hide behind some mask. Get a fucking job and go to therapy.
Yeah I get what u mean daredevil is the worse
Are you taking these questions seriously?
No
How old are you? There are records of Moon Knight dating back to ancient Egypt, are you the same hero or is it a mantle that passes down to the next generation? Love the new suit btw
Actually, I’m just a time traveler
Where are you from?
The moon.
Is Steven Rogers really on the moon?
Yes. Asshole’s always late on his rent.
Who is this? Is she single?
[picture of a woman with golden wings and dark curly hair, posing next to Mr. Knight]
No.

Now that birthday was one he knew without needing to consult others. It was one of the many dates marked on his calendar- people important to him that he wished to cherish on their most important day of the year.
(If only he knew that Brigid and Edain were twins, then maybe he could’ve spared himself the embarrassment of trying to find out what Brigid’s birthday was without asking anyone directly…but anyway.)
Sure, he wasn’t the best student in her class, and had no idea if she saw him as a friend either but…ah…courtesy. Just do everything in the name of courtesy. But he did wish to do something nice for Edain- she was always so very kind to him despite all of his shortcomings both as a student and person, always willing to help even when Dimitri had nothing to pay her back with- his grades barely counted as that, much to his own dismay.
When he showed up at her door, it was with a small bouquet of blue flowers and a cloth pouch with a blue bow. “Good morning, Professor Edain! I have caught on that today is your birthday, so I wished to find something that I could gift you with. My skill with gifts is very lacking but…” He nervously offered the flowers and the pouch. When opened it revealed a small, round and smooth gemstone- similarly to the one he gave Brigid, but this one was different. It was a soft pastel blue-lilac, its sheen almost ethereal in a way. “In Faerghus, this stone has protective means…but it’s also a symbol of hope. Priests often put it on their staves or wear it as amulets. It also helps you embrace new beginnings, whatever they may be. Moving on and looking forward is a very important thing in the Kingdom..important, and very difficult. So if you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel unsure about the future, I hope this stone helps you through it.”
Cheesy. Far too cheesy. He quickly grew embarrassed. “...and it’s very pretty jewelry too! If you fancy that sort of thing.” Fidget, fidget…”Happy Birthday, Professor Edain.” He nodded, giving her a sheepish smile.
(the gemstone in question is moonstone/hecatolite!)
upon the rapping of knuckles against her personal quarters' door, edain opens it to the leader of the blue lions house with something of a bashful expression on his face. she is surprised to find that it is dimitri that comes to her first before anyone else. while she liked to consider herself his friend, she certainly wouldn't expect him to come so early in the morning to celebrate her birthday— nor to be the first person to visit her.
"dimitri! it's good to see you." edain greets him with a bright smile. she actually hadn't been able to personally talk to him in quite some time, so that just added to the joy she felt. she blinks slowly, carefully taking the bouquet of flowers and the pouch he presents to her— as if his presents would be destroyed with even the slightest bit of a rough touch.
one arm holding the bouquet, edain takes the stone out of the pouch given to her with a wonder in her eye as dimitri explains the gift. such a deep meaning, she almost feels as if she doesn't deserve a present with so much thought put into it! her eyes land on dimitri's utterly flushed cheeks as he finishes speaking. "just the special meaning behind it is enough for me!" she giggles and, careful to not crush the flowers, reaches to hug dimitri with her free arm. "thank you so much for such a thoughtful present, dimitri. i'll treasure it forever."
