牡丹[Botan] : Tree peony

Botans originally bloom from mid-April to May, but those improved to bloom at this time are called Fuyubotan and the garden variety that blooms at this time is called 寒牡丹[Kanbotan](Paeonia suffruticosa 'Hiberniflora'.) 寒 means cold. In this season, Fuyubotan has the leaves and Kanbotan does not. The tree height is much lower than the types blooming in spring.

There are several Fuyubotan planted in the precincts of a temple, and I visited there, thinking that the flowers would be at their best.

But, the timing was a bit late. 藁囲い[Waragakoi], a small enclosure made of straw shaped like 雪ん子[Yukinko](Snow child) to protect the flowers from snow and cold winds, had been removed, and the large, fully opened pink petals were swaying in the wind. https://www.google.com/search?q=雪ん子&tbm=isch

Abilities: He can grow two pairs of spindly arms with razor-sharp claws from his back and he uses them to handle people and other things from a distance. He’s able to create portals to wherever he desires, but he has to vividly remember the place he wants to instantly travel to. Due to his extreme agility and speed, he can easily evade projectiles and obstacles and run noticeably faster than a cheetah at 0 to 42 miles per hour. As a fairy, he can use his insectoid wings to fly, and he’s able to teleport 10-20 ft away. He can turn himself invisible for about 2 hours and he possesses selective omniscience that is narrowed down to all of nature.

Personality: Olympiodoros is a reserved and prudently watchful individual who has difficulty trusting unfamiliar people. He’s quick-witted and has extraordinary reflexes, allowing him to think or respond quickly and effectively. He often prefers to take advantage of other people’s weaknesses in order to finish his tasks or give what he secretly wants. Olympiodoros usually appears to be unflinching and emotionless due to his stoic nature, which means that he endures hardship without showing his true feelings. He’s steadfast and possesses greater knowledge than his two most trusted coworkers, Achashwerosh and Božidar. As a result of this, he’s capable of making good judgements and firm decisions based on his current situation. He can be quite persistent in certain situations, especially if he wants to successfully perform his duties. He possesses unwavering obedience and he’s willing to do almost anything that is politely asked of him. Olympiodoros can be fairly snarky and critical of others in regards to things that he obviously doesn’t believe and/or care about. There are moments where he’s uncompromisingly forthright, but he often tries to keep his opinions to himself. He’s often calm and sensible in most situations as he’s well aware that rampant aggression will only cause trouble and unnecessary harm. His most iconic part of his outfit is a large fur coat made from bison and it covers most of his body except for his head. Underneath his fur coat is a pair of wild willow pantaloons, a juniper waistcoat with horizontal sea nymph stripes, and a frost shirt. He occasionally wears a flower crown that his eldest daughter made for him and it consists of Hierochloe odorata, lavender, Paeonia × suffruticosa, poet’s daffodil, and Tagetes erecta. It made things difficult for him and he decided to search for another profitable job. After a few days, he came across The Cockcrow Gazette and Lóegaire took personal interest in him. He convinced him to join his cause in exchange for a profitable job and he accepted it, becoming a prepress technician for The Cockcrow Gazette.

This is how it looks this morning. One small bud has formed, buried among the still tender leaves that have grown up.

Well, there is an old tale around my area that goes something like this.

Once upon a time, at dusk, at the foot of a remote mountain, a traveler was in trouble because it was late to cross the mountain and there was no lodging nearby. When he visited a chaya(teahouse,) which was the only one he could find, found a kindly-looking old couple living there. They understood his situation and he was allowed to stay overnight. Then, they said, "We are going to cook dinner now, so please take a bath in the meantime," for which he was very grateful.

While he was taking a bath, heard them talking. "Shall we make a buttataki(beating vigorously) tonight?" "Or hangoroshi(half-kill)?" When he heard this and thought, "What a mess! They are going to kill me and eat me, they are 鬼[Oni](Ogres)!" Horrified, he tried to run away with his luggage, naked, and slipped and tumbled down.

Hearing the sound, they appeared and said with laughing, "Around here, ぶったたき[Buttataki] means 蕎麦[Soba](buckwheat noodles), and はんごろし[Hangoroshi] means 牡丹餅[Botamochi](rice dumpling covered with bean jam)." The rice is mashed halfway when making botamochi. And, it seems that there was an action that looked like beating or tapping in the process of making soba noodles. Even today, the word for this is (蕎麦を)打つ[(soba wo) utsu](to beat, to hit or to tap.) Apparently there are other regions that use those expressions as well.

Today, March 20, is 彼岸の中日[Higan no chūnichi](the middle day of the equinox).

This mask contains 20 ml (0.67 oz) and has a very tart lemon scent, kind of like the rind of a lemon.

The mask is a good size and fits pretty well. I did need to widen the mouth and eye holes, but apart from that, it’s a good fit.

Recommended use is after washing the face, apply toner to tidy up skin texture. Take out the mask and place it on while aligning it with the contour of the face. Remove the mask after 10-20 minutes and gently pat it to promote the absorption of residue into the skin. After using, as mentioned before, this mask does have a noticeable lemon rind/peel kind of scent and it can definitely be an irritant. There are also a few irritants in the ingredient list to watch out for, I'd also recommend wearing sunscreen if you're going to wear this before going out during the day. The effects of the mask are quite beneficial however if you have dull skin or a lot of dark spots on your skin that you'd like to brighten as this is instantly brightening and skin toning. It's also very soothing and hydrating and the effects are long-lasting using this consistently would definitely continue to brighten the skin. Please note, this could be a problem for sensitive skin as I believe you could end up with some noticeable irritation. I'd recommend this to anyone with dull skin, hyperpigmentation, and dark spots.

What I like: this mask smells great and it's very comfortable, it's also nice and brightening and hydrating so it doesn't feel drying at all. It's also very refreshing and smooths out the skin nicely. What I don't like: the scent is likely going to irritate the skin and there are a couple of irritants in the ingredient list. Due to that, it's really not the best for sensitive skin.
