Core team of R D Burman : Tribute to Pancham

Ashok Jagtap (Bollywood Musician) Today is Panchamda's birthday. I am going to introduce you to the core team of Panchamda.They are the witness to the birth of most of the songs of Panchamda.They were his sitting members. Many of his fans don't know, what sitting members are. When a painter makes a picture, he don't need anything other than colours. When a sculptor makes a statue, he does not need any thing other than his tools but when a film music composer create music he needs help of other musicians. Actually these sitting members create atmosphere. Music directors has some ideas in his head like which rhythm to use, which tempo will match with the idea in his mind. When all sitting members start playing, music director gets boost to his creativity. The rhythm and Harmony produced by guitar gives him inspiration. All big music directors have sitting room where producers, lyricists writers, arrangers meet him. Sitting members are mostly rhythm player who play tabla, dholak, tumba, Kongo, guitar, side rhythm ect. When all of them play together, automatically music director gets new ideas and a new song is born. After this baby is born (original format) there are lot of changes.Some time music director takes suggestions from Senior musician. Panchamda's team has many talented musicians like Marotirao, Bhanudaa. They have to attend sitting almost daily. Once the tune is approved by producer director, the work of arranger starts.He writes songs , put harmony and after discussion with music director, introduction and interlude music is finalised. Now arranger is ready with score. Date for recording is fixed.

Now messenger is called. Music director tells his requirements of musician and budget is made. Messenger's job is to book studio and call musicians. He knows all details like which musician is in which grade, whether he is available, if not then who is alternative. He knows who are favourite musicians of music director. Many readers ask me as who pays the musicians? Does music director remunerates them or producer pay for studio, singer and musicians. Always remember that all such expenses are born by producer and not from the poket of music director. So this is how a recording is fixed. NOTE : Messenger was totally different category.They have nothing to do with music.They knew all musicians ,all studio ect. Ramanand with L.P. Raju with R.D. Ajit with K.A. Ratna,Sheshappa, Sant, Shirali, Babulal. there were many.
