Ch209 (p4), The queen of tragedy
⚠️ Long post ⚠️
You might be wondering where that heading comes from. I'll get to that in a bit....
So, we are back to recent events, where Finny and Doll fight over Snake, each one claiming the other is the enemy. Both parties are involved in deception; he wonders why they helped him but lied the entire time. Out of the circus troupe, he seems to have been closest to Doll, and she never told him the truth about the circus. He also becomes particularly close to Finny, who immediately likes his snakes, but Finny doesn't inform him about the true fates of his circus friends. Then there're our earl and Sebastian, who lead him to believe the circus members are still alive and just on the lamb.

Then we get a couple scenes before his and Finny's assignment begins.

But this flashback switches from what Snake is recalling... to what a reaper is reviewing. Born March 15 -- the Ides of March -- to an actress named Sarah Kemble. More on her at the end. Death on December 9, 1889, from blood loss.

The expression on this (new to us!) reaper's face makes me wonder what he's thinking. He says "no additional remarks", but I believe he's thinking some additional thoughts.

He must realize there's something odd about Doll, who is holding Snake's body and grieving over him. Doesn't he realize she's a bizarre doll? Has he not taken note of the blood transfusion equipment in the room down the hall? What about all the veins popping up all over her body? Hasn't he been informed about the search for Undertaker and his moving corpses?
Does he not yet have info from Othello regarding Layla/Al? We have to keep in mind that this is all probably happening around the same time that Ronald and William are taking Layla/Al into custody, so this reaper might not be fully informed and so might not know what all signs to look for.
Besides, Ronald is sent to Norfolk ahead of the impending deaths, because there was word a bizarre doll is stationed there. He just has to figure out which person it is. Ronald can't tell who the bizarre doll is just by looking, so he has to wait and see who starts acting like one.
This reaper apparently isn't sent to investigate FOL Orphanage, suggesting HQ didn't have similar intelligence regarding a bizarre doll there. If he's not looking for one, he might not bother to take much notice of Doll's appearance or the medical equipment.
Everything is happening at about the same time:
Mey-Rin and Ran-Mao are heading to their next meeting spot while Polaris makes his report to real Ciel and Undertaker. Heathfield is arrested, and the legal investigation there is still underway.
Ronald and William are dealing with Layla/Al, with the intention of taking her back to HQ for examination. Baldo, Lau, and the others are still planning their getaway; they have not yet escaped the sanatorium.
Othello is probably at HQ, working out the finer details of the transfusion machine he has just recently confiscated from the underground facility at Bath. Beyond that, the dove he sent back to HQ might be the only call for help he's requested to deal with Undertaker.
And this reaper is (as far as I can tell) just responding to the assigned task of collecting souls from Snake, Susan, and the head matron. He really might not be in the loop about Undertaker and his moving corpses... just yet.
This gives an easy setup for him to go about business as usual and leave Doll to her grieving. If he doesn't confront her and just leaves, she can ask Undertaker to turn Snake into a bizarre doll -- even if it's just to be her companion. Undertaker would see old goals of revenge in Snake's cinematic records and could potentially turn him against the Phantomhives, through creation of his "episodes" by cherry-picking the memories and goals that would compel him to seek that revenge again. If that happens, we could get Snake confronting our earl and Sebastian... where Sebastian fulfills the implied threat he makes (to Baldo, about any servant who turns against their master) in ch51.
So, there's that.
Then we have a couple other things to discuss: the current date and Snake's mother.
It's December 9, 1889. This works great with my Mother3 theory, which states the contract should end before our earl is officially 14 years old. December 13, 1889 is the eve of that birthday, and it's also a Friday the 13th. This is highly symbolic because of when his father is born and when his paternal grandmother dies. I'm sure there are absolutely zero coincidences in this.
We will go back a few days (again) for the start of our earl's and Sebastian's assignment in Brighton, then we will catch up to December 9th with them. During this time and soon after, they will receive word about the other three assignments, as word trickles in. Or perhaps they are bombarded with all the reports in quick succession. Then we've got another four days for them to finish not just their own assignment but also their contract. Perhaps their assignment finishes around the same time as the others. If so, they have three or four more days to address whatever they have learned.
Now onto Snake's mother. She's based on a real person, or a combination of a few people in a notable family. My own initial research pulled up a Fanny Kemble, who was a British actress who lived in this time period but was too old to be Snake's mother. She bore a daughter named Sarah (Kemble) Butler, but Sarah wasn't an actress. Fanny was well known as a former actress and an abolitionist -- who separated from her husband (Butler), partly over disagreement about slavery -- and returned to the stage, where she renewed her focus on the works of William Shakespeare... performing public readings of his plays.
Discussing the chapter in Discord, I got word -- from @mjmj2994 -- about a Sarah (Kemble) Siddons who was an actress, though she was from the mid-18th to early 19th century. Her mother was also a Sarah Kemble. Turns out that Sarah Siddons (née and a.k.a. Sarah Kemble) was an aunt to the Fanny Kemble I'd found! Small world, eh? Anyway, Sarah Kemble/Siddons (wiki article here) became known as the "queen of tragedy" for her portrayal of Lady Macbeth and other Shakespearean tragic characters -- including numerous cross-dress performances as Hamlet himself. Even though Yana-san would have to change the timeline to fit our Sarah Kemble, this is most likely the historical reference for her. Here's more information about the Kemble family line and their extensive involvement with the acting industry.
Our Snake comes from an esteemed family of actors, and I suppose we are to assume he's an issue who was so quickly covered up and forgotten that he was perhaps never even named. Who was his true father? And how did he come to have such strong snake-like traits? We might never know.
Now we wait to see if this reaper does anything about Doll. And then onto our earl and Sebastian in Brighton!

THEORY: “Welcome Home, my son…”
For a while I wondered why puppets are used specifically to help tell the story of this ARG? Then it was brought to my attention from another Welcome Home fan that maybe there are some parallels to the story of Pinocchio. In versions of the story, Geppetto had a real son that passed away and from his grief he created a wooden puppet that looked like his son, who would later become Pinocchio.
I also think it kind of is that way because there’s a big emphasis on family and children/babies in this update. With Howdy’s family coming over for the Homewarming, Julie and Frank trying to get everyone to be quiet so they don’t wake up the flowers and bugs that are hibernating (which is something parents do when they don’t want any loud noises that could wake up a sleeping baby), and the commercials targeted towards children, also Frank singing a lullaby and Wally singing a song about children going to a place called Toy Land and never leaving.

Then it hit me, sorry if any of this sounds fanfic-y or if I’m reaching a bit, but this is what think could be going on.
In the early-mid 60s, Ronald Dorelaine was a children’s entertainer, specializing in puppetry. He ran a troupe with some of his other puppeteer friends called “The Playfellow Puppets” and they would put on little puppet shows as part of the children’s theater slot at the local community centers.
The cast of characters included (and in order of creation): Julie Joyful (she was the first created since she’s a simple hand rod puppet), Frank Frankly, Eddie Dear, Sally Starlight, Howdy Pillar, and Poppy Partridge.
Since a part of me feels like almost everyone else was created before Wally and Home also it would make sense if Poppy was kind of “new” since she’s the most complex puppet to operate.
Ronald Dorelaine had a young son who would often tag along during his father’s performances, and his son’s named was Walliford, but sometimes his dad would call him “Wally.” Walliford was very fascinated with his father’s work and the characters he created, and one of his favorite things to do was draw and paint, hoping that someday he would create something when he grows up just like his father. Walliford even helped Ronald come up with a new character for “The Playfellow Puppets.” Barnaby B. Beagle. A blue dog that was inspired by one of his son’s drawings.

Which would explain this.
Ronald’s puppet shows started becoming so popular that it even started gaining attention from producers of a local tv station (sort of similar to PBS) where they offered Ronald the idea to turn his puppet show into a television series. Ronald took up on the offer, and the show began to develop. However a tragedy would soon happen….
Ronald was a heavy smoker (hence why there is a a big emphasis on cigarette ads in the recent update):

One day when trying to discard a cigarette before Ronald had to leave the house (possibly to go to a last minute meeting with the producers that would be helping him develop his new tv show). However he was unaware that the cigarette was still lit, and it set a fire to his home. Ronald was safe because he wasn’t in the house at the time of the fire, but his son Walliford was nowhere to be found and his body was never recovered so he’s presumed dead.
(Probably hinted at when Home’s eyes turned red in the commercial compilations)

I also think maybe Eddie’s puppeteer was a witness or somehow involved with this incident (possibly because he agreed to watch Walliford while his dad went out) since I noticed during his breakdown, everything turned bright red and Eddie looks like he feels guilty about something, hence why he’s sweating and Home appears to be starring him down as if he did something.
From his grief and in order to cope with the loss of his son, Ronald created a new character as a tribute to him. Wally Darling, and from there the plot of the show changed. The show would now be about a neighborhood, all of the previous characters would be neighbors with Wally Darling, who would now be the lead of the show. Ronald also added some traits that were present in Walliford, such as his love for art and his friendship with Barnaby (who was Walliford’s favorite of the group) for the new Wally character.
Then for a last minute edition, Ronald included a sentient home for Wally to live in. The Home was meant to keep Wally the puppet safe and to watch out for him, which was something he wasn’t able to do for his son.
Hence why the title of the show changed to “Welcome Home,” since to him he wanted it to feel like his son now has a second chance at life and he’s finally back home where he belongs. Almost like saying “Welcome home, my son.”
However none of this was enough for Ronald, even though he created a new character to keep Walliford’s memory alive, it was hard for him to find a puppeteer to play Wally because it wasn’t the same. All he really wanted was his son back and he would go to whatever means necessary even if it means going to the extreme. He later came across “the entity” and made a wish for Wally Darling to become real (like how Geppetto wished for Pinocchio to be real and The Blue Fairy brought him to life). And with that his wish came true. Wally was now sentient without the use of puppeteer.
I kind of believe this to be the case because Wally to me feels like the odd man out, everyone else feels lively and zany since they’re real people, while Wally just feels like a blank slate, with the way he speaks sounding very monotone. Here there was a bit of an innocence to Wally since he’s always learning things for the first time and asking questions about certain concepts and feelings, since he was literally a puppet brought to life and “the baby” of the group. However the producers, and parents watching the show didn’t think it was odd since they thought Wally was like this since he was meant to be a character that children can project themselves onto.
However what everyone didn’t know is that the entity that helped bring Wally to life manifested it’s way into the show possessing The Home puppet, and since Wally had no one attached to a real person playing him, the entity used Wally as a vessel to carry out their agenda. Day after day, the show started to go more and more off the rails, but what was really happening was through Wally the entity started to brainwash each of the puppeteers into believing that they were the actual characters, possibly by using the sleeping pills advertised in the commercials, or there was foul play on Ronald’s end and he gave all his puppeteers the sleeping pills to “put them out of their misery.”

By 1974, Ronald tried to put a stop to the entity, and he had no other choice but to end the show and destroy all the evidence that it ever happened. Ronald himself also began to slowly disappear from the public eye and he hasn’t been seen since then.
For years “Welcome Home” has gone on being a lost media, until now.
That’s not the end of story, because it turns out the real Wally Darling, Walliford Dorelaine, is actually still alive, but he has amenesia from the incident and he was no memories of his previous life. Doesn’t know what his real name is (it probably started with a W) or who his parents were, which is why he was never brought back to Ronald. By the time Walliford grew up, his friends started talking about this mysterious puppet show that was on TV years ago called “Welcome Home” which was kind of like Sesame Street, but they all thought it was some kind of urban legend. Then suddenly Walliford started getting all these tattered artwork and pictures of merchandise from the show they were talking about, and he showed it to his friends and together they formed The Welcome Home Restoration Group to try and uncover the mysterious Welcome Home show.

Walliford however started experiencing strange feelings both physically and mentally. There were times when he doubted if the show was even real, but whenever he did have any doubt, he had dreams and hallucinations of Wally Darling trying to communicate with him through the phone and he also starts seeing all these strange video clips from the show itself sprinkled throughout the website that he and the team built. The team however started growing concerned for Walliford thinking that he “lost his mind” so they kindly tried to distance themselves from him while they are trying to rebrand the site after seeing that Walliford was trying to communicate with what he believed to be Wally Darling haunting the site, before they shut it down.

This only caused Walliford to create his own website with his own evidence, since it seems like his own restoration team is starting to mistrust him, and now he’s going to get to the bottom of this all by himself.

But what they all don’t know is that Walliford’s connection to “Welcome Home” goes much deeper than that, as it’s in his blood.

Jimmy: Okay, the first time I yell at you for making me look bad, they are only gonna need one take, because you’re really pissing me off with being afraid of a defunct fast food mascot!

Also, in case you forgot, many international McDonalds ads left Rosita and Gunter out. I guess I see their point, though, since it’s ironic (and a bit unlawful) to include pigs in commercials for your bacon serving establishment.

the final episode of Emergency! aired. It debuted as a midseason replacement on January 15, 1972, on NBC, replacing the two short-lived series The Partners and The Good Life, and ran until May 28, 1977, with six additional two-hour television films during the following two years.
Emergency! was created and produced by Jack Webb and Robert A. Cinader, both of whom were also responsible for the police dramas Adam-12 and Dragnet. Harold Jack Bloom is also credited as a creator; Webb does not receive screen credit as a creator in the show's original TV-movie pilot, being only credited as its director.
The series starred Randolph Mantooth and Kevin Tighe as two specially-trained firefighters who formed Squad 51, part of a then-innovative field known as paramedics who were authorized to provide initial emergency medical care to victims of accidents, fire and other incidents in the field. The plot of the initial pilot film described the passing of state legislation, signed by Governor Ronald Reagan, and was called the The Wedsworth-Townsend Act. It allowed the creation of paramedic units. Squad 51 worked in concert with the (fictional) Rampart General Hospital medical staff (portrayed by Robert Fuller, Julie London, and Bobby Troup), who took over each patient's case from the paramedics who worked in the field.
Nearly 30 years after Emergency! debuted, the Smithsonian Institution accepted Emergency! memorabilia into its National History Museum, public-service section, including their helmets, turnouts, biophone, and defibrillator.

Sparrow, as always, had found just the right amount of time to stall his performance at the theatre in order to reply. Smarty Pants and her ingenuity were a rather big help, of course, as she'd recently repaired her dearest robot and could send it up to cause appropriate trouble. The two [or three, rather] always shared the fallout of their tricks, but neither seemed to mind if it meant spending time on joyful things.
They were thick as thieves, and mischievous to match.
Glancing back to the hastily 'barricaded' doorway of the practice room, little more than a closet hosting a wonkily carved star sign emblazoned with "Sparrow" on the door, the stuntman wiped a bead of sweat away from his forehead. He didn't want anyone to find him and scold him for the latest prank, much less so soon.
There was little more important to him than his performances, but the people around him were first priority - bringing them joy and whimsy off the clock was just one of his many obligations. It mattered not whether he'd make a crowd of the theatre-goers or of his troupe members, because all deserved it.
Aside from one Ronald of Ness, whom he mocked - "Ronald of Mess" was his proper and deserved title to Sparrow, never corrected on tongue.
He turned his attention to the doorway when there was a knock, standing to pick up a letter that was slid underneath. At least someone respected his boundaries.

The response wasn't as quick as it should have been. The writing wasn't as fluid as he'd expected from Andrew, and the stuntman became hesitant. Much as he tried his best to offer the benefit of the doubt, something about the letter's text unnerved him. Sparrow always thought himself to have nerves of steel, as was necessary for someone so thrill-seeking, but looking at the blunt text made his stomach do backflips without the rest of him.
He did reply, but the pen shook in his hand.
Nothing felt right.
"Dearest Andrew, surely you haven't forgotten our encounter? It was that night, after the performance, when I'd nearly fallen off the tightrope and you were so tense that you called out to me. Our eyes met, and I was able to snap to my senses enough to save myself.
Goodness knows what I would've done if you hadn't been there. I wouldn't be performing now, that's for sure, with quite as much zeal, whether that means I would have been injured or not.
Fright makes colours pale, and you know that well.
Oh, you're fine. Don't be silly! I know that you can't make it to every show, whether it's because of your job or some other ridiculous obligation. You've missed them every so often, and I've almost come to expect not seeing your face in the crowds.
They've become better without you, even."
So he lied.

TASK 001: MUTANT FUCKERY !
what is your ability?
fun lord with clown physiology
what is your character’s government-assigned classification level?
level four. she can essentially bend reality... and the past and the present, as long as it’s fun to any kind of third party. that said, at inspection, she does not look entirely human, but she’s far more passing than most level two.
what can you do?
use all silly powers, master cartoon physics ( fun lord is the highest form ), grow stronger through laughter, make people burst out into song, induce a party, attack with any weird forces, and fully control the plot ( amongst other things ). however, before this... ‘i’m you but stronger’ side of her mutation was unlocked, she simply had clown physiology -- that said, she is a master of all powers related to that.  she’s a class act with hilarity, and definitely the power she has the most control over (otherwise her audiences would literally fucking die). she’s also very good at controlling the simpler ones – card generation, balloon manipulation, prank intuition, performance art intuition. and, although she no longer has much use for it, malleable anatomy and pain suppression are both skills. her final few years in kappa (or barnum depending on hf timeline) did her one favor: introduce her to the miming variation, thus meaning she can mime any action and thought waves will will it to happen in real life (such as miming a gun and shooting – if she wants to, it can actually have the same effects as an actual bullet). she has her own pocket dimension to keep weaponry – both real and gag – within. she is more bound to the laws of cartoon physics than she is to the laws of nature, thus making her very existence more... comical (for example, you best bet that if she got slammed through a wall, it would leave the perfect silhouette as opposed to a gaping hole). they don’t all apply to her, but... so many do...
and a few other things that are just silly and goofy and creepy! in addition, although not due to her mutation, very acrobatic – being part of a traveling troupe can do that! she can also technically leave clown form™, but why would she ever give up the powers just to look like someone who doesn’t make bold fashion statements? ALSO, lest we forget her alien mind… love it for her…
what can’t you do?
since she’s only had the fun lord fully unlocked for a few years, she has not nearly mastered those abilities. she’s always had a touch of cartoon physics, but things like manipulating logic ? creating paradoxes ? controlling the plot ? yeah, she’s got no fucking clue. ( for fun lord reference -- just because it sounds so broad, but... i would not choose a power that is broad over fun, think about the looney toons and fleischer brother cartoons (betty boop, popeye, koko the clown) and how they can completely manipulate their reality. there’s also this one toon i was shown in my animation class last year... so sad i can’t remember it, but the characters made the author change the plot. so fun stuff like that ! ) she’s generally good at not just fucking building bombs, but every now and again… a balloon will almost go ka-plow! rip :-( she’s also got a pretty immense fear of using her miming, but that… you know, stems from mutant caterpillar trauma… how they chopped off her limbs for that one to see if it was reality warping or she really did need to action it 😔
what are your weaknesses?
well, she always looks like a clown with one pink iris, so jot that down. ( that said, very lucky in that the clownery aesthetic lends more towards e-girl than it does ronald mcdonald. ) in addition, mentally blending in with the people who surround her is not very easy. it takes a lot of work to pretend to see the world in its real hues as opposed to some brilliant vibrancy, a la ‘ldn’ by icon lily allen. there are also some people who are just boring who her super fun powers won’t work on 🙄 then there are also all the fun lord powers, but you know...
how did you first come to the realization that you were a mutant?
she was born looking a little bit different, but it was chalked up to a kid with some human genetic defect. after suspicions increased, driven by weird-ass magic clown shit, she was shipped off to go live with some carnies and be their local clown ! then she told a not-funny-at-all joke that accidentally made half the audience literally laugh themselves to death :\ so like... that was confirmation... as for fun lord, after extracting some of her dna to inject into kian to see what the hell happens, an upgraded mutation??? was unlocked. she was working beyond the realm of clownery, working beyond the realm of regular cartoon physics ( mastering them, instead ). there were times that she could swear... she was contacting her creator ! someone named may ! and, upon release, there were times that she would say any ‘i wish’-adjacent statement and... it might just happen. nothing grand scale, but she could say ‘i wish i had chosen rye instead of pita’ and history would rewrite itself.
if given the choice, would you remain a mutant? why or why not?
mhm ! can it be difficult ? for sure. has it presented a lot of obstacles and torture, whether the hf timeline keeps kappa or i move to an original affiliation ? yea :\ but the world must be a dull place...
what do you hope to see change in the future, with respect to the current strife over mutant acceptance? short-term? long-term?
some legit comeuppance. while she would never join the damned -- hierarchies and organizations just aren’t her thing! Il 24 aprile, la prima seria crisi internazionale: finisce in tragedia il tentativo di un commando di liberare gli ostaggi americani in mano al regime di Teheran. Otto soldati muoiono nell’operazione, e il disastro sarà la causa principale della mancata rielezione di Carter l’autunno successivo. Il quarantesimo Presidente degli Stati Uniti sarà l’ex attore Ronald Reagan.

“Canadian caper” è il nome in codice dell’operazione segreta orchestrata dall’agente della CIA Tony Mendez con l’aiuto determinante dell’ambasciatore canadese a Teheran, Ken Taylor, grazie alla quale sei diplomatici statunitensi, sfuggiti ai raid degli studenti di khomeini all’ambasciata dell’anno primo, riuscirono a tornare sani e salvi in patria, spacciandosi per la troupe di un film di fantascienza che non sarebbe mai stato girato.
“Argo”, questo il titolo (e che poi sarebbe stato fatto oltre 30 anni dopo proprio per raccontarne la storia). In una drammatica corsa sul filo del rasoio, Mendez e i sei riuscirono a imbarcarsi su un volo Swissair e a prendere letteralmente il volo verso la libertà, proprio quando il cerchio delle ricerche intorno a loro si stava stringendo.
IN ITALIA
È un anno triste anche in Italia: nel giorno della befana viene assassinato Piersanti Mattarella, presidente della regione Sicilia che stava cercando di riformare con criteri di meritocrazia, evidentemente invisi ai mandanti dell’omicidio.
A febbraio le brigate rosse uccidono in un attentato all’università La Sapienza Vittorio Bachelet, vicepresidente del CSM, mentre a giugno un DC9 dell’Itavia esplode sopra i cieli di Ustica, per cause che 40 anni dopo non sono ancora state chiarite.
Muoiono i 77 passeggeri e i 4 membri dell’equipaggio, in una delle pagine più buie della mala politica italiana. Il 2 agosto, l’attentato più vigliacco della storia della Repubblica italiana provoca la morte di 85 persone alla stazione di Bologna, quando una bomba fà crollare un’intera ala della stazione.
Il 23 novembre un fortissimo terremoto investe un’ area di 17.000 Kmq. tra Irpinia e Basilicata: le cifre della tragedia sono pesantissime: 3.000 morti, oltre 10.000 feriti, quasi 300.000 senzatetto.
Arte e spettacolo
“Kramer contro Kramer” sbanca la notte degli Oscar, vincendo 5 statuette: miglior film, regia, attore protagonista (Dustin Hoffmann), attrice non protagonista (Meryl Streep) e sceneggiatura.
L’allucinato “Apocalypse now” si ferma all’Oscar per la fotografia (all’italiano Storaro) e per il suono. “Alien” vince gli effetti speciali, “All that jazz” vince 4 Oscar e la Palma d’oro a Cannes.
Esce nelle sale il secondo episodio della saga di Guerre Stellari: “L’impero colpisce ancora”, che guadagnerà oltre 500 milioni di dollari in tutto il mondo. In campo televisivo, il 1° giugno un’emittente di Atlanta comincia le trasmissioni: nasce la CNN, che rivoluzionerà il modo di fare giornalismo negli anni a seguire.
Le Olimpiadi di Mosca, segnate dal pesante boicottaggio dei Paesi occidentali, portano all’Italia 8 medaglie d’oro: su tutte, quella di Mennea nei 200 metri e di Sara Simeoni nel salto in alto. Intanto, alle Olimpiadi invernali di Lake Placid si era registrata la clamorosa vittoria della squadra americana di hockey, formata da studenti universitari, sul colosso russo: “The miracle on ice”.
La Germania vince gli Europei di calcio, organizzati in Italia: i giornali cominciano a scrivere il “de profundis” di Bearzot. Il Nottingham Forest di Shilton vince la coppa dei campioni. Interrompendo un digiuno di 9 anni, l’Inter di Bersellini e Beccalossi è Campione d’Italia.
I Blondie sbancano le top-ten con “Call me”, mentre “The wall” dei Pink Floyd è l’album dell’anno. Esce nelle sale un filmetto francese senza tante pretese: “Il tempo delle mele”.
Diventerà film generazionale, con la zuccherosa “Reality” ad imperversare in tutte le feste di compleanno. Arriva anche in Italia la geniale invenzione di un matematico ungherese: il cubo di Rubik, che toglierà il sonno a un’intera generazione.
Ma quanto poteva essere difficile, diranno gli scafati figli del 2000? Un cubo di 6 lati, ogni lato 9 quadratini colorati? Beh, figli della playstation, sappiate che le combinazioni possibili in cui il malefico cubo poteva trovarsi sono 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 (!!), una sola quella giusta, con tutti i lati colorati! E c’era chi lo risolveva tutto in meno di 25 secondi!!
In questo contesto nascevano i Rain
I RAIN sono nati nel 1980, quando l’unica descrizione possibile per la loro musica era semplicemente “heavy metal”. La loro carriera artistica ha attraversato diversi cambi di stile, ma la passione per l’hard rock più fisico, lascivo e metallico ha finalmente trovato la strada di casa.
Nonostante il loro ultimo album Spacepirates risale al 2016 e la band abbia affrontato un doppio cambio di formazione l’anno successivo, i RAIN non hanno mai rallentato la loro attività sul fronte live, affermandosi come una delle band più intramontabili e coerenti dell’heavy metal italiano ed europeo scena.
Oggi il gruppo bolognese è tornato in sella, affidandosi all’instancabile determinazione del veterano chitarrista Amos The Snake, a cui nell’ultimo decennio si sono aggiunti il ​​bassista King Gabry, il batterista Gunner, il cantante Evil Mala e il chitarrista solista Freddy V.
Nonostante abbia vissuto diverse fasi creative in una carriera così lunga, lo stile dei RAIN si è evoluto anno dopo anno in un hard’n’heavy energico, irriverente e orientato alla strada, nel senso più genuino e rock’n’roll del termine. Un sound classico, ma mai nostalgico, che ha sempre saputo trarre ispirazione dalle più recenti evoluzioni della musica contemporanea.
La volontà della band di rimanere costantemente aggiornata in termini di produzione e influenze, infatti, ha permesso ai RAIN di spaziare con naturalezza dal power metal all’hard rock, incorporando i rami più pesanti del suono alternativo e focalizzando il processo creativo sull’eredità dei capisaldi della musica pesante.
Nel corso degli anni, punti di riferimento obbligatori come Motörhead, Judas Priest e Accept sono stati aggiornati sulla scia di un suono sempre più personale e versatile. I RAIN sono quindi diventati la band ideale per aprire concerti di artisti iconici (Paul Di’ Anno, Michael Schenker, Udo Dirkschneider e Yngwie Malmsteen), ma anche perfetti animali da festival, come chiaramente affermato dalle straordinarie esibizioni al Metal Camp nel 2005 e al Metalitalia Festival del 2019 (con Slayer, Anthrax, Children of Bodom, Gotthard, Hardcore Superstar e Phil Campbell).
Un percorso artistico spalancato a contaminazioni groove metal e street/glam rock fin dall’album Bigditch 4707 (1998, Eternal Shadows Records), che RAIN sviluppò ancora meglio nel successivo Headshaker (2002, Deadsun Records) e nel modern classic Dad Is Dead (2008, Aural Music). I tour europei e americani, a supporto rispettivamente di Blaze Bayley e dei mitici WASP, diventano l’ovvia conseguenza di questa crescita.
L’album Mexican Way (2013, Aural Music) ha soddisfatto l’esigenza di sperimentare con i suoni acustici, aprendo la strada alla partecipazione dei RAIN al Pistoia Blues 2015 (con The Darkness e Black Label Society). Quello era solo un episodio, comunque, perché il richiamo della musica pesante è troppo selvaggio e rinvigorisce i celebri Spacepirates (2016, Aural Music), come sempre supportati da intensi tour italiani ed europei con la band di Jeff Scott Soto.
Insieme alla produzione dell’attesissimo nuovo album, nel 2017 l’ultima formazione RAIN ha pubblicato il singolo Good Morning Texas (featuring Alessandro Del Vecchio e il produttore americano Beau Hill) e la cover di Disperato Erotico Stomp del concittadino Lucio Dalla, in partenza subito per un nuovo tour europeo sempre con i maestri W.A.S.P.
La recente ristampa per il decimo anniversario di Dad Is Dead, con il disco bonus Live In Russi, ha contribuito a indicare la futura direzione stilistica. Durante il 2019 e il 2020 la band ha lavorato duramente su una serie di nuove canzoni, insieme alla pre-produzione e al mix di Giuseppe “Dualized” Bassi (Fear Factory e altro), che ha dato una nuova e fresca spinta al suono e agli arrangiamenti, insistendo ancora di più su soluzioni moderne e groovy, che però non ne pregiudicheranno il marchio cruento e concreto.
Nell’ottobre 2021 RAIN ha pubblicato Come back A-Live, il primo libro mai realizzato dalla band, pubblicato da Arcana Edizioni e basato sull’esperienza del tour on-the-road del 2010 negli Stati Uniti con i WASP, scritto da Dave Tonioni (che ha preso parte a quel tour come merchandiser, fotografo, tour manager e molto altro) e acclamato dalla stampa italiana.
Contemporaneamente all’uscita del libro, RAIN pubblicava un nuovo singolo come logica colonna sonora, chiamato Come back A-Live. Per una band già abituata a farsi acclamare dal vivo, il prossimo album A New Tomorrow, la cui uscita è prevista per la fine del 2022, rappresenta una grande sfida soprattutto a livello creativo. Se i RAIN si sono sempre dimostrati capaci di infiammare i palchi di mezzo mondo, questa volta hanno nel mirino il tuo impianto stereo. Quindi, è meglio che tu sia pronto.
Anno per anno:
La storia dei Rain inizia nel 1980 a Bologna. Tre generazioni di musicisti si sono alternate apportando le proprie influenze e contribuendo alla creazione del sound della band, partendo dall’Heavy Metal puro delle origini fino alla sperimentazione di nuove atmosfere nell’album acustico “Mexican Way”, per tornare a elementi hard ‘n’ heavy con l’ultimo lavoro in studio “Spacepirates”.
Tra il 1998 e il 2007 la band ha pubblicato due album: “Bigditch 4704”, distribuito dalla label greca Eternal Shadows, e “Headshaker”, registrato per l’etichetta francese Deadsun Records. I lunghi tour promozionali dei due album hanno portato i Rain sia in Italia che in Europa, grazie anche alle date a supporto di Paul Di Anno, Michael Shenker, Udo, Iron Savior e Helstar, tra i tanti.
Nel 2008 la band pubblica il disco “Dad is Dead”, che contiene 12 tracce inedite e una cover del classico “Rain” dei The Cult, che vede la partecipazione di Steve Sylvester (Death SS) alla voce. Il disco è stato prodotto e distribuito da Aural Music in tutto il mondo, mentre la distribuzione italiana è stata curata da Audioglobe.
Il tour promozionale di “Dad is Dead” ha portato i Rain in Finlandia, Germania, Polonia, Olanda, Belgio, Francia, Svizzera, Danimarca a supporto di Blaze Bayley (cantante degli Iron Maiden dal 1994 al 1999), e negli Stati Uniti per un tour di un mese a supporto di W.A.S.P. nel 2010.
La produzione in studio è continuata nel 2011 con l’album “XXX”, un’antologia dei 30 anni di carriera del gruppo, in cui alcune delle canzoni più significative della carriera dei Rain sono state riarrangiate e reinterpretate. La collaborazione con Aural Music è continuata anche per questo album, e il 15 ottobre 2011 è iniziato a Tilburg, in Olanda, il “XXX Tour”, che ha portato la band ancora una volta ad attraversare Italia ed Europa.
Nell’ottobre 2013 il desiderio di sperimentare e realizzare un progetto parzialmente diverso ha portato alla pubblicazione di “Mexican Way”, un album acustico. Il disco ha ricevuto ampi consensi sia dal pubblico che dalla critica. Aural Music ancora una volta è stata partner fedele della band occupandosi della distribuzione del prodotto in tutto il mondo. All’interno delle 12 tracce sono presenti anche due canzoni cantate in lingua spagnola.
La band è partita per il tour di supporto di “Mexican Way” attraversando l’Italia partendo in marzo 2014 da Roma, eseguendo il repertorio classico unito a brani estratti da “Mexican Way”, unendo quindi il sound heavy con una componente acustica.
Il 2014 vede l’ingresso in formazione del nuovo cantante Mantis le Sin, di un nuovo chitarrista solista, Amedeo Mongiorgi, e del un nuovo batterista, Andrew Gunner.
Durante il 2014 e il 2015 la band, al lavoro sul nuovo album in studio, ha comunque tenuto numerosi concerti sia in Italia che in Europa (da menzionare la partecipazione a Pistoia Blues nel 2015 a supporto di The Darkness e Black Label Society).
L’album “Spacepirates” viene pubblicato la luce nel 2016, contiene 9 tracce inedite e vede I Rain ritornare a un sound decisamente Hard ‘n’ Heavy. La band inizia immediatamente il tour a supporto del disco accompagnando la band di Jeff Scott Soto in alcune date europee, e battendo l’Italia da nord a sud.
Nell’estate 2016 Mantis le Sin e Amedeo Mongiorgi salutano la band e vengono rimpiazzati rispettivamente da Maurizio “Evil Mala” Malaguti alla voce e da Freddy “V” Veratti alla chitarra solista.
Nel gennaio 2017 i Rain pubblicano un nuovo singolo “Good Morning Texas”, frutto della collaborazione con produttore americano Beau Hill (Alice Cooper, Winger, Ratt) e con Alessandro Del Vecchio alle voci. Il brano oltre che pubblicato come singolo, viene inserito come bonus track nell’edizione speciale in vinile di “Spacepirates”, uscita nell’aprile 2017.
Nel marzo 2017 la band, come tributo a Lucio Dalla, il cantante e artista bolognese scomparso anni prima, realizza una cover del brano “Disperato Erotico Stomp”, che viene anche pubblicato digitalmente e per il quale viene rilasciato un video ufficiale.
Il 31 ottobre I Rain pubblicano una edizione limitata in vinile a 45 giri della cover di “Disperato Erotico Stomp”, e pochi giorni dopo si imbarcano in un tour europeo di 10 date in Italia, Svizzera, Olanda e Germania a supporto di W.A.S.P. per il loro Re-Idolized “The Crimson Idol” 25th Anniversary World Tour.
Dopo un 2018 caratterizzato da impegni live la band ha pubblicato il 26 ottobre 2018 una edizione speciale del classico del 2008 “Dad is Dead” pensata per il decimo anniversario dell’uscita dell’album, edizione completamente rimasterizzata, con una nuova copertina e un bonus disc di materiale live estratto dal “Live in Russi” del 2018.
Durante il 2019 e il 2020 la band ha lavorato su un gruppo di nuove canzoni, con la pre-produzione ed il mix di Giuseppe “Dualized” Bassi (Fear Factory e altri), che ha conferito al suono una nuova freschezza, insistendo ancora di più su soluzioni moderne e cariche di groove, che tuttavia non andranno a rivoluzionare il marchio di fabbrica della band.
Nell’ottobre 2021 i Rain hanno pubblicato “Come back A-Live”, il loro primo libro, pubblicato da Arcana Edizioni e basato sull’esperienza on the road del tour del 2010 in U.S.A. con W.A.S.P. Il libro è stato scritto da Dave Tonioni (che in quel tour fu fotografo, merchandiser, tour manager e molto altro). Contemporaneamente all’uscita del libro i Rain hanno pubblicato un singolo inedito che ne fa da colonna sonora, intitolato appunto Come back A-Live.
Il 2022 ha visto la pubblicazione dei singoli inediti “A New Tomorrow”, “Peace Sells”, cover del brano dei Megadeth, e “Down in Hell”, che hanno aperto la strada all’uscita di un nuovo album, dopo 6 anni di attesa dal precedente lavoro, dal titolo “A New Tomorrow”, pubblicato il 23 settembre. L’album è stato registrato ai Fear Studios (RA – IT), pre-prodotto e mixato da Giuseppe “Dualized” Bassi, e masterizzato da Dan Korneff al Sonic Debris Studio (NY).

Doll not a bizarre doll?
There is a very slight chance that Doll never died. Because we didn't see her die, and because we don't know whether our earl directly commanded Sebastian to kill her.
In the previous scene with Joker, Kelvin, and Doctor, our earl commands Sebastian to kill them. He puts a fist through Doctor's chest and stomps on Kelvin's head, but he merely glances at Joker and decides he's already dead/not going to survive much longer. So, Sebastian doesn't do anything else to Joker.
Then, when they get outside and Doll questions them, our earl says they were sent to destroy the circus troupe, but when she rushes at them, our earl just says "Sebastian." And Sebastian moves in to strike, but all we see is falling candy and a splash of what must be blood. Obviously, Sebastian didn't simply knock her out, like he later knocks out Soma and (later still) Lizzie.
It's possible that Sebastian doesn't land a fatal blow, but only if he wasn't directly commanded to. As far as we know, no command was spelled out that he had to kill her. But I highly doubt he would have spared her life. And when our earl finds himself on the chessboard with his twin, Doll is one of the people he presumes to be dead, along with real Ciel, their parents, Madam Red, and Joker.
The other slight possibility is that Undertaker gave her a shinigami pass -- if he's still capable of doing so; we don't know what's required for them to do that, just what basic criteria they go by. We don't know the process because he haven't seen it or even had it described to us. There's an even lesser chance that Ronald or William did it.
If she's a bizarre doll, then Undertaker should know all her old life's goals, and he'd pick and choose which ones to use for her episodes. Likely, he would want her to have a desire for revenge... to some extent.
But if she's not a bizarre doll and "randomly" (or not so randomly) ended up at that orphanage? Oof, no idea. Maybe just living life as best she can while maybe hoping to find anyone who remains from the circus?
Something just occurred to me: I don't think anyone but Joker knew what Kelvin and Doctor were doing to those kidnapped children -- not just the lobotomies and circus shows and deaths for ceramics to make prostheses -- she might not have had a single clue what happened to kids they found for "Father". Perhaps she thought they were sent to workhouses or orphanages. What if her interest in the orphanage is about searching for the missing kids to return them to their families? It's a long shot, but she might think she's doing something to make up for all the wrong they did, because she always felt guilty about the kidnappings. And that's something she might strive for, regardless of whether she's alive or a bizarre doll....
But I'd be really surprised if she turns out to be alive.

San Francisco’nun iki etnik azınlığının (Çinliler ve İtalyanlar) geleneksel semti olan North Beach, 1950’lerde, yeni serpilmeye başlayan alt-kültürün merkeziydi. Şairlerin başını çektiği “Beat kuşağı”nın dünya çapında tanınmaya başladığı sıralarda, aslında şiir burada gelişen sanat formlarından yalnızca biriydi. North Beach, ressamlar, heykeltıraşlar, yazarlar, fotoğrafçılar, müzisyenler, sinemacılar ve şairler için adeta bir cennetti. Sanatçılar kolektif bir yaşam sürdürüyor, birbirleriyle yakın ilişki içinde çalışıyorlardı.
Fakat zaman içinde bu özel ve benzersiz semt herkesin ilgisini çekmeye başlayınca, vaktiyle sessiz sakin bir yer olan bölge turistlerle doldu ve şiir okuyan, esrar içen aylak sakinler birdenbire emniyet güçlerinin ilgi odağı oldu. Bunun üzerine pek çok sanatçı, North Beach’ten ayrıldı. Gittikleri yerlerin başında, San Francisco kentinin gururu Golden Gate Park’ın sınırındaki Haight-Ashbury semti geliyordu. Haight-Ashbury, bundan sonra, San Francisco Mim Topluluğu (Mime Troupe), Sanatçı Kurtuluş Cephesi (Artists Liberation Front-ALF) ve ardından 1960’ların en etkili karşı-kültür hareketlerinden Diggers'ın beşiği olacaktı.
Dansçı ve mim sanatçısı Ronald G. Davis, 1959’da, Brechtçil tiyatro ile İtalyan Commedia dell’Arte geleneğinden esinlenen San Francisco Mim Topluluğu’nu kurdu. Dış mekânlarda ücretsiz oyunlar sergileyen topluluk, 1963’ten itibaren, kamusal alanda izinsiz müdahaleler biçimini alan “gerilla tiyatro”lar sergilemeye başladı.(video belgesel sayfanın en sonunda)
“Mim Topluluğu’nun şöhreti kısa sürede arttı ve topluluk Davis’in çabalarıyla aktivist genç sanatçıları kendi bünyesine katmayı bildi. Sadece tiyatrocular değil yazarlar, heykel sanatçıları, müzisyenler, dansçılar topluluğun eğlenceli gösterilerinde aktif görevler aldılar ve halka açık mekânlarda sergilenen politik sanatsal gösterilerinin mantığı üzerine pek çok gözlem yapma ve değerli deneyimler elde etme şansını yakaladılar. 1966 yılına gelindiğinde yaklaşık yirmi kişilik bir grup sahnede hayal edilen gerçekliği gündelik hayatta gerçekleştirmek için topluluktan ayrıldı ve şehrin farklı bir bölgesine giderek alternatif bir kolektif kurdular. Böylece 'gerilla tiyatrosu'nun ikinci aşaması başladı. Kendilerine İngiliz iç savaşı sırasında boş toprakları tarıma açan bir grup devrimci köylüden ilham alarak 'Diggers' [Kazıcı] adını verdiler. Diggers üyelerinden [Peter] Coyote, Mim Topluluğu’nun kişisel deneyimi açısından kendisine neler kattığını şu cümlelerle ifade ediyordu: ‘Dünyaya Marksist prensipler ışığında bakmaya ve analiz etmeye, onu daha kapsamlı biçimde kavramaya gerçek anlamda ilk kez Mim Topluluğu’nda başladım. Diggers, performansı, izleyenlerin bilincini yükseltecek, çerçevesi belli bir hadise olmaktan çıkararak, yeni bir toplum hayatının sürekli icrasına dönüştürdü. Hayallerindeki yaşamı şimdi ve burada somutlaştırmak amacıyla “yaşam-oyunculuğu” adını verdikleri bir teknik benimseyen Diggers, doğrudan eylem ile tiyatro oyunculuğunu biraraya getirmişti. Ücretsiz dağıttıkları Free City, Free News gibi dergiler aracılığıyla duyurdukları etkinliklere binlerce insan katılıyordu. 
Diggers pek çokları tarafından hippi kültürüyle özdeşleştirilmişse de, ve bazı açılardan bu kültürle benzerlik gösterse de (egemen yaşam biçimlerinin koşullandırmasından kurtulmak üzere uyuşturucu kullanımını teşvik etmeleri gibi), toplumsal programdan yoksun olduğu için hippiliği eleştiriyorlardı. Tıpkı paranın ölümünü ilan ettikleri happening gibi, hippiliğin 'cenazesini kaldırdıkları' bir gösteri de düzenlemişlerdi. Diggers’ın başlıca hedefi, para ekonomisinden bağımsız Özgür Şehirler kurmaktı. Bu şehirlerde ücretsiz hukuki ve tıbbi yardım sağlanacak; herkes ücretsiz pansiyonlardan, iletişim ve ulaşım hizmetlerinden faydalanabilecekti. Üretim fazlası ve para bağışıyla işleyen bu proje kısa ömürlü olmakla birlikte, Amerika ve dünyadaki pek çok başka karşı-kültür hareketini etkiledi. Diggers bu amaçla, Özgür Şehir Kolektifi adı altında başka bölgelerde de faaliyet yürüttü ve kendi mahallelerinde ücretsiz sosyal hizmet ağı kuran Kara Panterler gibi örgütlerle dayanışma içinde oldu. [DY-AB]

Bilinç durumumuz, yeraltında birbirimizi alt etmeye yönelik oyunlar oynamayı bırakıp, özgür şehirlerde yaşayan özgür ailelere uygun görevler geliştirmek için gayret göstermemizi gerektiriyor.
Bireysel faaliyetlerimiz için gereken özgürlüğü sağlayabilmek için elimizdeki olanakları müşterekleştirmeli ve enerjilerimizi buluşturmalıyız. 
Dünyanın her şehrinde gevşek bir rekabetçi yeraltı oluşumu var. Bu oluşumlar, amaçları bazen örtüşen bazen çatışan (ama çoğunlukla nihai hedef olan özerkliğe ulaşma olasılığını zayıflatan) topluluklardan oluşuyor. Geldiğimiz noktada hepimizin bir silahı var; hepimiz onu kullanmasını biliyoruz; düşmanımızı tanıyoruz ve kendimizi savunmakta tereddüt etmeyiz. Daha fazla hakarete tahammülümüz yok. O halde, biraz daha kararlı davranıp Batı dünyasının kentsel ortamlarında özgür şehirler kurmanın vakti geldi.
Özgür şehirler, temin ettikleri ve sürdürdükleri hizmetlerle, özerk toplulukların yemek, matbaa olanakları, ulaşım, alet edevat, para, barınak, çalışma alanı, kıyafet, makine, kamyonet vs. bulma derdine düşmeden programlarını yürütmelerine imkân tanıyan bir özgürlük zemini sağlayan Özgür Ailelerden oluşur (San Francisco özelinde bu aileler Diggers, Kara Panterler, Provo’lar, Mission Rebels ve çeşitli devrimci grup ve komünlerdir).
Devrimimizin bu aşamasında, Amerika’nın şehirlerine yayılmış bütün ailelerin, komünlerin, Siyah örgütlerin ve grupların, eşgüdüm içerisinde çalışarak, tekil klanlar bünyesinde faaliyet gösteren kişilerin ihtiyaçlarını bedavaya karşılayabilecekleri Özgür Şehirler kurmaları şarttır.
Tüm yoldaşlar yapılması gerekeni yapmak için ne gerekiyorsa alacaktır.
Özgür Şehir
Bir taslak ... bir başlangıç. Tüm hizmetler, birbirlerine sıkı sıkıya kenetlenmiş ve aşırı iş yüküyle ustalık ve şevkle baş edebilecek kadar davalarına adanmış yoldaş grupları tarafından yürütülmeli.
Özgür Şehir Santrali/Enformasyon Merkezi, bütün hizmetleri, faaliyet ve yardımları  koordine etmeli; desteği, en çok ihtiyaç duyulduğu noktaya yönlendirmeli. Ayrıca, hukuki destek, barınak, makine, ve benzeri ihtiyaçlar söz konusu olduğunda müracaat mercii burası olmalı. Evlerinden edilmiş toplulukların ve bireylerin posta adresi olarak işlemeli ve başıboş enerjileri en çok ihtiyaç duyuldukları noktaya yönlendirmeli.
Özgür Gıda Depolama ve Dağıtım Merkezi, halihazırdaki bütün bedava gıda kaynaklarına gitmeli –satılmayan bol miktarda artık gıdanın biriktiği sebze ve meyve pazarları, köylü pazarları, kesim ve et işleme tesisleri, çiftlikler, mandıralar, hayvan çiftlikleri, tarım meslek okulları, dev kurumlar–ve dilenmek, ödünç almak ve çalmak da dahil olmak üzere mümkün olan her tür yolla kamyonlarını üretim fazlasıyla doldurmalı; şoförlerle irtibat kurarak, sevkiyattan arda kalanların kendilerine ulaştırılmasını temin etmeli. En doğrusu vardiyalı çalışmak: sabah vardiyası erzağı toplar, akşamüstü vardiyası ise elindeki liste doğrultusunda gıdayı, özgür ailelere ve gettolarda yaşayan fakirlere teslim eder.
Bu grup, insanların gıda fişlerini ortak bir havuzda biriktirmelerine yardımcı ollmalı ve annelerini (ya da başka bir tayfayı) yolcular ve evsizler için bedava bir lokanta açmaya ikna etmeli.

Özgür Şehir Bankası ve Hazinesi
Bu grup para toplamaktan, Özgür Şehir’de yaşayan ailelerin kiralarını ödemek, akaryakıt ve benzeri başka ihtiyaçlarını karşılamak için beleş para kaynakları yaratmaktan mesul olmalı. Bunun dışında, fakir getto çocukları için ufak tefek üçkağıtlar (kurabiye satışı, vs.) tertipleyecekler.
Özgür Şehir Hukuki Danışma Hizmetleri
Bu hizmet, Özgür Şehrin haklarını ve sunduğu hizmetleri savunmaya hazır, fiyakalı, pişkin ve birinci sınıf avukatlar tarafından verilecektir... beyaz, liboş, suçluluk duygusuyla kıvranan adalet tellallarına lüzum yok. Bize tuttuğunu koparan birinci sınıf avukatlar gerekiyor. Dava konusu olan beleş para ve mülkü mükemmelen idare edebilecek ve muhitinizdeki polis zulmünün hakkından gelebilecek avukatları yanımıza çekin.
Özgür Şehir Konut ve Çalışma Alanları
Bu grup, marangoz atölyelerine, garajlara, tiyatro sahnelerine vesaire çevirmek amacıyla metruk binalar kiralamalı veyahut kent yönetimiyle anlaşarak bu mekânları devralmalı. Çevreye-özgü eserler üreten sanatçılar büyük depoları devasa dans-şenlik-şölen saraylarına dönüştürebilir.
Şehir mekânlarını özgürleştirme hamlesi, ciddi ve iş kotarmaya odaklanmış üç kişilik bir ekip tarafından yürütülmeli. Bu ekip, kent bürokrasilerini ve gecekondu ağalarını köşeye sıkıştırabilmek için avukatlarla ortak çalışmalar yürütebilmeli. Özgür Şehir’e mekân devşirmek için kentteki çoğu gayri menkulün sahibi konumundaki kilise hedef alınmalı. Kilise yetkilileri muhatap alınırken tavizsiz bir üslup benimsenmeli ki, işin şakası olmadığını anlasınlar.
Özgür Şehir Çevre ve Tasarım Ekibi
Üniversite ya da sanat enstitülerinde okuyan sanatçı gruplarını saflarımıza katmalı ve gecekonduların ve çoğu Özgür Şehir Aile meskeninin rutubetli sefaleti üzerine çalışmalarına yardımcı olmalıyız. Rahatsız edilmeksizin topluluk için yaşam alanları inşa eden iyi ressamlardan, heykeltıraşlardan ve tasarımcılardan oluşan gruplar... Gerekli malzemeler ve araç gereç üniversite projelerinden ve imalatçılardan yürütülebilir.

The Reason Buster Has Coulrophobia
When Buster was a kid, McDonalds used to have this one ad campaign where kids who didn’t eat Ronald McDonald’s food get “tickled to death” (At least, that’s how it was in the Sing-Iverse. We all got McDonaldLand)
So a typical commercial goes like this… a parent and a kid are at McDonalds. Said kid has some dumb excuse as to why he’s not hungry. (I’m only here for the play place, I HATE Filet-O-Fish, I said I was toy-starving, not food-starving, Why can’t we eat at Kentucky Fried Cheese instead?) The parent tells the kid that if he/she doesn’t eat, then Ronald McDonald would come out and tickle them. Either they would immediately comply as they see Ronald peek from a corner and grin evilly, or he would tickle them anyway until they decided to eat. Kind of a weird campaign, but it was the late seventies, where weird was all the rage when it came to advertising.
So every time somebody picks up food from McDonalds for the New Moon Troupe, Buster runs into his office and locks the door, because he’s afraid that… oh, I dunno… Johnny also brought Ronald with him to tickle him.
Ash: MOON! They ditched the clown years ago! McDonalds is now more like a boring coffee shop than the fast food chain that catered to children that most of us grew up with!
I’m sure that @ash-the-porcupine has another good reason for Buster’s fear of clowns, but this one almost makes the most sense to me.

Carte de visite by A.R. Gould of Carrollton, Ohio. Large posters plastered along a thoroughfare in Carrollton, Ohio, tease the arrival of Stow's Great Varieties, a unique traveling show that performed in several Midwestern states in the 1860s. Reports collected from Newspapers.com list these dates and locations: July 1864: Grand Haven, Mich. August 1866: Plymouth, Ind. August 1867: McArthur, Jackson, and Hillsboro, Ohio September 1867: Lancaster and Upper Sandusky, Ohio May 1868: Plymouth, Ind. The use of colorful advertisements appears to be a regular feature of Stow's Varieties. "Immense and splendid posters on the public square announce the coming of a novel exhibition," noted Ohio's Lancaster Gazette on Sept. 5, 1867 of a forthcoming September 14 event. "Novel exhibition" is one of several references to the show. "Old circuses will not be rehearsed, but a new style of performance, different than anything ever before the public," noted one newspaper. Another observed, "It is not a circus, but offers an entertainment more varied, unique and attractive than any circus, as a reference to the programmes so liberally scattered in our community will satisfy the most skeptical." In essence, the show combined aerobatic and acrobatic troupe performances by gymnasts, including tightrope walking, dancing in costumes, and original music. Seems to be an 1860s Midwestern version of Cirque du Soleil. Newspapers gave the show very positive reviews. One named the owner as John Stow. "I... can't remember terribly well, to tell you the truth, when exactly I joined Golden Rose. It was a blur of light and sound, and though I usually do well in frenzied situations, I had nothing to cling onto while I was swept away in the accusation and mystery. The Lady was being blamed rather heavily for the upset, so soon, and... well.
My friendship with the dearest Smarty Pants came far too late in all of that for me to get a grip on whatever was going on around me. I do not blame her in the least, of course."
The young man laughed, hands fidgeting with the large bow at the front of his vest. Though he didn't often let nerves get the better of him, admission of weakness was something that terrified him more than he cared to say out loud. His smiles were wide, his movements large and exaggerated, but it was all in the name of the show.
He'd felt trapped without purpose for a long time before joining the troupe, but he wasn't going to voice any of that negativity to a stranger. They were a member of his audience - he needed to just keep smiling, as was expected of any good circus-goer.
"Smarty Pants is my dearest friend in the troupe, as we've been through thick and thin together, but I do admire Kroto and the Lady of the Stage both deeply. Ronald of Ness gets on my nerves, but please don't tell him I said as much. He'll have my head on a stake, surely..."
