Just read the words “sailor” and “Kara” in the same line...  Did a double-take and was severely disappointed that it was not about a Sailor Moon / Supergirl crossover...  But now my brain won’t shut up about it, bc Sailor Moon was my biggest first most passionate fandom. 

So, Sailor Krypton - yay or nay?

On one hand... Why? She already got superpowers! Can even fly! 

On the other hand... Her first supersuit fit the theme really well. So at least visually it would make sense (but no, don’t squeeze Kara’s golden locks into pigtails, pls. she already resembles a golden retriever enough as is). 

She also exceeds the general age-group (13-18′ish)... 

She does not necessarily react well to prettily colored gems / crystals... 

She has superspeed, so her henshin/transformation sequence would be a blink-and-you-miss-it kinda situation... 

She’s severely over-powered, several elements (heat vision=fire, ice breath= ice (d’uh), flight=wind?, strength=earth?...) and then some - her fights against big bads should be short. 

But then would she be still vulnerable to magic, if being a Senshi is by definition a kind of magic(al girl)?

She has no Sailor Team - unless we’d recruit Sailor Naltor and Sailor ...Mars, oh. Oh! No! I am referring to M’gann! Nobody needs to see J’onn in a mini-skirt XD

So.... nay? *sighs disappointedly* 

...this does remind me, however, that so many years ago I shipped Usagi with Rei. So, another blonde titular heroine and her raven haired best friend... Huh. I guess, some things never change?

life on mars is such a good story i hate how good it is like

the girl goes to the theatre to see a movie with her friend. before she goes, her parents say goodbye, her mother disapproving but her father telling her go ahead. her friend noshows so she gets the best seat by herself. the movie starts, but its not anything new or exciting. its about an ordinary person in an ordinary life, absolutely nothing "interesting" (from a narrative perspective) about them. the movie goes through scenes and scenes that are just things the girl has in her own life, people she passes on the street. even her own experiences are identical to the movie characters. sailors fight in the dance hall two blocks away from her home. a cop gave her cousin a concussion and a false arrest. its as if the moviemakers had just filmed ordinary peoples lives, and they hadnt even known they were being filmed. the girl doesnt like this (the movie is well reviewed, because rich people love treating poor people like entertainment) and she begins to think life on earth is just the same forever and theres no originality ("so, like, is there life on mars, bc the life on earth sucks" is basically her idea)

AND THEN IT ZOOMS OUT and were no longer watching the girl, were watching the girls *writer* write her story, and hes realizing he *has* written a story thats functionally identical to all the other ones hes written, with characters that are lifeless copies of each other. and what was meant to be a cool moment of self awareness in a character is actually sending its author into a crisis. like how many authors are in the same identical crisis as he, is he just another photocopied writer, all that jazz. and hes like "fuck it my fictional character was right earth sucks i wanna go to mars"

Sailor Mars Birthday Tribute

I am so late on posting this but I just did not have time to edit. For Mars I wanted to talk about her 90s anime version and her much better manga version.

Let me start by laying my bias wide open. I never liked Sailor Mars. As a kid I thought she was unnecessarily mean. She was and still is my least favorite, besides ChibiMoon. She’s beautiful, and her powers and attacks are awesome. As for how she fits into the overall scheme of things, I have major issues with how the anime portrayed her compared to how Naoko intentioned her. Frankly, I can’t help but view 90s anime Rei as an imposter and I’ll explain why...

Ok, first let’s talk about 90’s anime-Rei. We know she’s very hard working, goes to an elite girls’s Catholic school and wants to be an independent career woman when she grows up. Yet, for some reason (*cough*patriarchy) she sees Mamoru in season one and thinks he’s perfect so she’s gotta have him. She embarrasses herself going all boy crazy over him (he literally steps on her head and just walks away) and he seems like a typical clueless dude who doesn’t realize she *likes* him. I relate hardcore to Mamoru here. She’s so thirsty and he is so not. Then fast forward to after Endymion gets taken and Rei slaps Usagi calling her a coward. It’s meant to be some great emotional scene that some fans latch on to. Yet, it’s not Rei’s slap that motivates Usagi. It just hurts her. Go watch it again (epi35); it’s the voice of Mask from her memory, gently and patiently encouraging her, as always, that she is strong and can fight that spurs Moon into action. We’ve seen over and over that Usagi responds to patient encouragement over violence, just like when she does when she faces the baddest villains. Yet, the 90s anime always has Rei cutting her down. As far as I’m concerned, it’s just the patriarchy at work, trying to convince young girls that the boy or girl who’s mean to you really does care about you. It’s toxic and just plain stupid.

Now, am I saying 90s anime Rei doesn’t really care about Usagi? No. Not at all. She’s her Senshi and they share the same heart and the same dream to protect those they love together. Of course she loves Usagi. My issue is how the 90s anime portrays that dynamic. It’s spreading toxicity within female friendships and trying to sell it as genuine. I also understand that Mars’s fiery personality is what a lot of her fans love about her. I’m not saying that’s bad either, even if it’s an inaccurate representation of the character Naoko created. Apparently, it was Ikuhara that wanted the anime to change her cold and aloof personality to “fiery”. To perpetuate the patriarchal tropes I’ve mentioned, the anime tried to paint her as Usagi’s bff of the group, usurping Minako’s place. In the manga, Minako is the Leader of the Senshi and the one closest to Usagi in personality and in her role as the Leader of Serenity’s guards. Yet the anime is constantly trying to make Mars the one that is extra special to Usagi. Case in point, at the end of Stars the first voice we hear address Eternal Moon after she defeats Galaxia is Rei but in the manga, Usagi is drawn hugging Minako first. These little moments bother me, probably a little too much.

Then there’s the love triangle they tried to created with her and Mamoru. Fucking kill me. The love triangle garbage is just typical, patriarchal tropism within the storyline that has no place in the SM story in regards to Mars. Let’s make two friends like the same dude bc that’s drama that people have been conditioned to enjoy. It’s lame as far as I’m concerned. Let’s take a moment to remember the random, stupid and pointless scene in the curry episode where ChibiUsa and Mamoru run into Rei and after a moment of awkwardness they decide to go find Usagi together. Tell me that’s not the patriarchy trying to validate one woman’s place by using another woman as comparison instead of letting her stand on her own. 😒 And they’re trying to backtrack on the whole Rei liking Mamoru episode. This isn’t Rei’s fault obviously, I’m just using this scene to explicate why I don’t like the dynamic the anime created, and why that makes Mars a difficult one for me to get excited about.

There’s no way you can convince me that Mars’s bitchiness wasn’t a direct result of a “male perspective” (as Naoko called it). The idea that female bffs bully each other and cat fight all the time is ludicrous. As a 32yo woman (and lifelong Moonie) with a tight circle of girlfriends, there isn’t a single one of us who would tolerate such toxicity from the other, even at 14yo. It just isn’t realistic, unless it’s a bad relationship. I’ll give the anime credit for getting one thing right - her bravery. In both the manga and the anime, Mars is fearless. She charges into battle and gives it her all. She doesn’t let any doubt get in her way. She does not hesitate or dwell on self-doubt. And that alone is reason enough to love her.

Now, let’s discuss Manga-Rei. Because Adult-Moonie-Me LOVES manga-Mars. She actually appears in Codename Sailor V outside the arcade. She says the atmosphere is “disquieting” and leaves. In the manga, she’s very quiet and reserved. There is no bickering or cat fighting between her and Usagi. She’s also probably the most objectively beautiful of the Inners. She’s suppose to be “slender”, with long black hair and brown eyes which are sometimes seen as purple. When Usagi first sees her on the bus, she thinks she’s soooo beautiful. And another time, when they’re at the beach/pool, guys keep buying Rei drinks but she’s not flirting or giving them any attention, bc she is not boy crazy. Sis is enjoying those drinks tho.

Her awakening in the manga is very similar to the anime with the exception that’s she sees a premonition of Usagi and Jadeite that makes her go find the bus. Like the other Senshi, she is drawn to Usagi.

In her manga profile, her dislikes are television, modern society (the anime has her immersed in pop culture, going so far as to make her write her own songs and dance at the school festival), canned asparagus and men. It’s implied that she doesn’t like men or care for them bc of her father. He never had time for her and she doesn’t have a good relationship with him. Plus in a short story, she has a guy she likes but he chooses to follow her father’s footsteps into politics. So she kisses him and is like, boy, bye. ✌🏽 She considers men emotionally weak, untrustworthy and is generally disinterested in them, even if they’re buying her drinks and fawning over her. Same, Sis.

She is described as beautiful and “reserved”, but “scary” when she’s angry. She so beautiful that when Mamoru’s underclassman, Asanuma, sees her, he thinks she would be the perfect girlfriend for Mamoru (who Asanuma thinks is perfect) and that she should be Mamoru’s ideal type. He’s really surprised that Usagi is so *ordinary*.

Rei has strong precognition and has an affinity to fire. Ironically, there is nothing in Shintoism about fire reading, so that must just be a shoutout to the Greek influence on the manga. I love her psychic abilities in both the anime and the manga. Random fun fact: Naoko worked at a Shinto temple for a while before or maybe during college.

Mars is one of the only Senshi, like Michiru, who can use an item as an attack in her civilian and Senshi form. Her “ofuda” (Shinto talismans) are powerful enough to disperse evil and make regular people faint (remember anime epi w/Unazuki’s mouth getting sealed and in the manga/crystal she accidentally “purifies” Usagi, causing her to faint). Mikos (shrine maidens) are known to use archery attacks, so civilian Rei was already proficient in archery before awakening as Mars. Also, just like Jupiter’s earrings stay on her when she transforms, Mars is always wearing a pendant and when she transforms, it attaches at the waist to her fuku.

Mars also, uniquely, has her own guardians: the Crows, Phobos and Deimos. In the anime, the crows never take human form as they do in the manga. In the Dead Moon arc, Jupiter and Mercury power up by speaking with their inner consciousness. But Mars powers up by speaking with the human forms of her crows. This is a great moment in the manga bc Phobos and Deimos basically tell Rei that’s it’s ok to not want or desire men and marriage. She is the asexual goddess everyone overlooks and I love this aspect to her personality. The Crows are the ones to give her the Mars Crystal which is her starseed. We also find out here that Mars pledged a vow of Chastity to Serenity in the SilMill. They don’t explain the reasons behind the vow, but considering Rei’s spirituality and serious conservatism, it’s understandable. Also, while Phobos and Deimos are named after the moons on Mars, in the Stars Arc it’s revealed that they’re from the Coronis and were acquainted with Sailor Lead Crow.

For the most part, Rei in the manga seems more boring than Rei in the 90s anime, but personally, I don’t think so. Reading the manga in middle school and seeing a female not *give*a*fuck* about marriage was awesome to me. She’s also kinder and she has far more respect for Usagi. She’s extremely popular at her school and has her own fan club. She carries herself with a certain dignity that reminds me of Michiru. She’s second in command after Venus. And let me end this by saying that Crystal gave Rei justice, and for that I am happy.

also it’s okay, it’s about time i read it any ways considering i bought the two frickin box sets

i got kinda creeped out by tuxedo mask n sailor moon liking each other tbh i mean TUXEDO GUY IS LIKE 17 OR 18? ?? and she is like 14.... and i know i wouldn’t have cared if i was like 14 but like think about a real life 14 y/o.... but whatever, like compare their maturity levels. i know 17/18 year olds aint really that mature but like still, they’ve got a lot more life experience usually than 14 year olds that are BARELY teenagers and barely have much life experience

it kinda makes me uncomfortable that they also show like their whole legs bc idk they are 14 and i don’t really wanna see a 14 year old’s legs but whatever ;-;;;; i really wanted to get into this series so im gonna tell myself they’re 16 bc that seems a bit more appropriate

also at the end of volume 1 there’s a little sketch of some guardians in bunny suits and man idk that makes me uncomfortable too if they are 14

ksjhafksd anyways i started reading vol2 and it’s a tiny bit better also in regards to the lil sketch i made, i am not really sure about the colours but i tthink it’s cute so far

i’ve actually been meaning to make a collection of all the skin families and make an edit out of that so i was gonna do that for this instead….. but i got lazy lol

anyways i have A Lot Of Feelings about the mystic skins so i’ll break down my thoughts under the cut:

1. mystic nu wa

pros

the abilities are a lil boring but what hi-rezo does with them is great and i love the wings when she uses her ult (so cute!!).

the model is absolutely gorgeous, nu wa has got a flawless base and what hi-rez have done w/ the skin is so nice. i love the lil animation on her dress as well and the colour scheme is easily the best out of all the mystic girlies

i’m not 100% on nu wa’s voice pack but the va does a really good job, she’s super cute and i’d literally die for her omg. an anon on the confession blog reminded me about that directed voice line towards erlang shen and when erlang shen does get a mystic skin i might consider joining the mystic nu wa X mystic erlang shen ship

(also i’m kinda biased bc i own this skin and i’ve gotten excellent games w/ her asdkfljdslkjikljlkljkl)

cons

i have no idea who the fuck chose goddamn mystic perfume bottles for her different elemental powers but it’s such a weird decision. still pissed that hi-rezo didn’t go with the obvious choice of having her wield elemental stars like…… :////

what always annoys me is the lil flap things under her dress, the skin would look so much better if they were on top of her dress or if they were just removed ENTIRELY… it’s like daji w/ her tails, there’s too many things going on and it’s really distracting

also this is a major complaint for every mystic skin but the hair colours are just waaaaay too much, i know they’re meant to be colour coded but holy shit would these girls look much better w/ darker hair. i’d kill for a brunette mystic nu wa

final rating: 9/10, nu wa setting the standard for everyone to aspire to once again

2. mystic artemis

pros

another really good model (although the shortness of the dress is… questionable), tusky is also p cute. i really love the heart arrows, that’s a cute lil touch

artemis ability-wise doesn’t have much to work with but the skin is still p cute, her 3 is unexpectedly good?? her animations are also really nice

voice pack is golden, artemis is always super shady and has some of the best lines out of the mystic crew + the voice actresses delivery is flawless

love love love her leader personality!! it’s really nice that athena of all the goddesses got a mystic skin as she’s a perfect representation of what i wanted in the mystic set of skins aaaah

abilities are super cute, gives some much needed colour to athena’s fighting tbh. the ult really stands out and the taunt is nice as well

the model is p good, it somewhat manages to fix athena’s unfortunate face and it gives her boots instead of high heels!! thank the lord!!!. also it’s good to see athena in a nice looking outfit for once, most of her other ones are weirdly sexy??? even her base has the stupid slit on her dress lmao.

Manon gwynn; the eldest of the gwynn’s. Born to a fairy and pixie.

She liked being an older child for the most part, albeit, there was a small time where she was an only child which was great too. But as long as she’s getting attention she’s fine with it.

She’s always been that girl at school, that everyone seemed to just love. ( effortlessly cool, effortlessly chic, the girl everyone wanted to be and every guy wanted to be with. ) this was down to a multitude of things.

1. She’s a compulsive liar, and will spin any web to make people think she’s better than them

2. She can control pheromones.

Conclusion: that and a winning smile, it’s a combination,

People remembered her as that: the cool girl.

They used their popularity for good mostly, but the only good she ever really did was stop anyone from picking on their little sibling. Manon was ( and partially, still is ) the coolest elder sister anyone could ask for. Has it all together at all times. Knows the answer to everything.

Being at the ‘top’ had it’s .. problems too. They were never really interested in guys, sure there was some interest on a romantic level -- but was never really interested in anything beyond making out at best.

But, by the age of 15, it was kind of lame to just say -- ‘oh we made out - - ‘  , one guy asked if they could just say they did it. And thus started manon’s first scam.

It worked well for the compulsive liar, guys would pay her ( extortionate amounts ) to just say that they got together. She got money and the notoriety, and that got whatever man points they needed.

She could buy designer stuff, start rumours about herself that she had a sugar daddy of some kind, and profit off of people she deemed ‘lesser than herself. As long as people were talking about them, she didn’t really care if they liked her or not.

It was also around this time they realised for the first that maybe girls were more of their thing:      it was gaia who first tipped them off, wiping away their tears one day they just wanted to lean in. it was an almost,     something. They were the closest of friends, but the burn across their cheeks when they held hands ?   it was way different from how any of the guys she fake dated with made them feel.

When they were 19 they joined an x-men roster ; or the trainee one. Their powers aren’t the most suited for combat, but the variety made them a good asset to have trained for a situation that needed to arise.

They  didn’t  like  this, not being the main heavy hitter of the team. The center or star. Putting her at odds with the rest of the assigned  ‘ team. ‘

It made them brash, reckless, and for the first time: this persona of the ‘cool’ girl who had everything together slipped. Broke and crack. They couldn’t manipulate their teammates through their illusions to make them seem better,   they saw the raw her, and she was hating it. How open they wer with gaia, with the team.

The last brick was the attack,          sure, they were acting recklessly nonetheless --     but her wings?     Her wings were her pride and joy.   And nothing, not crippling loneliness,  not her chronic nose bleeding, nothing was more embarrassing and painful then getting her one defining trait ripped from her shoulder blades.

She was 21 when she ran away from the x-men’s medical bay, jumped on a motorcycle and just sped away. Changed their name to cupid, and started spinning their biggest web of lies yet.

They fell into crowds of scam artists, who taught her tricks ; she remembers one tight group well, used them as a central base amongst her own … well . everything,

She spent the last 4 years pretending to be an instagram model, one of those ‘thots’ with a private snapchat and always seem to be vacationing and ‘finding herself.’

She missed the birth of her niece, in fact, didn’t even know they had one till she showed up with a suitcase, an entirely new personalty. And a new set of wings.

She’s full of secrets, a walking enigma, a scam upon a ponzy scheme upon 4 unsolved murder cases upon , : /

Once I saw two pictures of V, Rika and MC as Sailor Moon characters (I won't post them bc they're not mine, obviously, but I have prints of them because they're beautiful). V was Mamoru and MC was Usagi (and Rika was Mars, but not really)... And it gave me an idea!

(If you know/are the artist who did the drawings, please tell me so I can thank them/you)

*Have you ever said "I'm hungry" and someone just decides to eat something in front of you? Or told your sibling "This cake is mine" and the next day the cake is gone but the plate is still on the refrigerator? We say those kinda people have a "wooden face". Maybe I'll explain better later.

One Valentine's Day, MC is being really bitter because of her (now ex) boyfriend. The guy broke up with her by letter! By LETTER!!

They were supposed to meet in his favorite restaurant (which she didn't like very much) for lunch, but when she gets there, one waitress (one of his exes and one of the reasons MC didn't like the place) came with a letter and said "I told you he would leave you. At least with me he had the balls to call."

MC was just so angry she didn't eat anything, even when he, as we brazilians say, the wooden face* to leave some money inside the envelope. The JERK!

She gave the money to the other girl and left.

Walking back home, she crumples the card and throws away the ridiculous piece of paper.

And it falls on V's head.

"Hey, you, don't go throwing your trash in the head of others."

MC turns around and there's V in all his pastel not blind yet glory.

He's annoyed, his family makes him go crazy everytime he visits

"Look, dude, I'm not in the mood, so just give me the paper and we won't see each other again."

She didn't need someone taking pity on her.

"I'm not surprised you're all alone, such a bad temper."

If it wasn't for Jumin, they would continue to argue for God know how long.

Thing is, they stopped bickering and started bantering.

Well, they thought it was friendly banter.

You know these couples who act like an old married couple but are not really dating because neither of them have the courage to confess? Or they just won't admit they like each other?

Here in Brazil we call it "chove mas não molha" ("It is raining but the floor is still dry" is a rough translation)
