do you know what the deal is with this weird squirrel? we have a lot of black squirrels in the park nearby but ive never seen one like this before. symmetrical pattern, its other side looked the same.

Eastern grey squirrels are funky! Here are oddly colored individuals on my favorite iNaturalist group, they seem to be the most commonly reported species. Melanistic ones don’t always come in pure black, they can be very interesting like the one you saw!

I've seen some weird eastern grey squirrels but this is the oddest, im guessing just leucism but it looked sort of like seal point colouration?

It probably is funky leucism! Do these look similar to your eyes? Grey squirrels are very very varied!

Red squirrels (Sciurus vulgare) are hard to find — they are almost extinct in England.
