Some Beautiful Eggs
What are the chances of this happening? I went to a favorite grocery store on the far south side of our town to buy eggs. I bought two cartons of eighteen eggs and another dozen which with two of the eggs in my refrigerator would add up to fifty which is what I needed to put in the fifty bag lunches I was going to make for people on the Street Angels route the next day. At the checkout, the…

so i live in the gentrified ghetto of my downtown, like a block away from our homeless shelter. my boyfriend works downtown doing delivery. were both very used to and comfortable with the unhoused and wanderin ppl under the influence of various things in the core because we share the same living area right. its usually perfectly safe and chill.
today my bf texts me cause a man blew somethin from a pipe in his face and tried setting him on fire / general mild assault. and hes like downtown is unusually wild today. texts me a few hours later; the cops have decided to harrass and clear out the encampments along the street of the homeless shelter (cause its always at capacity/you need to wait in lines/etc)
so my bf got assaulted directly due to the cops activities. they literally are causing crime. there was no problems before they did this. like. why do people still fucking support cops they literally only escalate problems they dont do anything fucking good. my family has only ever been hurt by them. in MULTIPLE instances where my fam were the unequivocal victims of a situation. acab acab acab.

ty for your voting post! you put into words something I’ve been grappling with for years now and so I appreciate that you articulated being disenchanted but still voting as a place in the middle that feels more on purpose rather than just. stuck between voting will fix everything and voting will fix nothing.
Viewing voting as the very first base level step of harm reduction really helped my mindset.
The harm reduction view also helped settle that dissonance between "people who want me dead don't want me to vote so I should definitely vote" and "ok but everyone on the ballot is a Rat Bastard."
I'm probably never going to see someone I like and feel good about on a ballot. If someone who doesn't fit my ideals isn't on the ballot, I vote for someone who shares some of my ideals. If no one who shares some of my ideals is on the ballot, I vote for the one who won't make things actively worse. If no one fits THAT criteria I go "which of you fuckers is going to give me a less steep hill to fight up." "Which of you is comfortable saying the horrid shit out loud and which of you still keeps it quiet and can therefore be shamed more and less quick to act on said bigotry?" "Which of you is the most likely to grease up that slip-n-slide into fascism within the next few months and which may throw some sand on the slip-n-slide to slow it down by a couple years so people have more time to try to act against it?"

OMGGG the backhanded art comment 💀🤡 I wanted to say thank you sooo much for adding your input because comments like that are the reason why I have the urge to rip my hair out everytime I enter the comment section of an MV/Dance Practice like wdym "it's not dance, it's art" ?? what did you think dance was??? How little do you care about dance then?? You're literally the first person I know to address it which was kind of unexpected but very much needed (Sorry if you can feel the frustration radiating of this ask, but that's how much I despise it)
kljlkjflkjflksda well i did go to a very prestigious art school so i do have the experience to back up my backhandedness. i have to thank @exo-s-victory-lap first bc if they hadn't posted that comment on the birthday dance practice i wouldn't have said anything, bc i never read the comments on any kpop-related videos as i don't need the headache. but you're right it is a thing that very few people talk about, mostly because like i said, there's a mass lack of education around the different types of 'art' beyond painting and sculpture, and what even is 'qualified' to be called art in the first place. to be honest dance gets the most of this pseudo-'complimentary' offensive garbage because the average person in the west just does not interact with dance as an artform like, at all. the most common types of dance at the moment are street dance based/whatever shows up on tiktok and they've become so ubiquitous that people have ceased to see it as a skill and connect it to being worthy of being called 'art'. the convention of what constitutes 'art' in a lot of the general public's eyes is western eurocentric forms that have 'historical' backing, but only those that have been approved by the 'elite' as the ones acceptable. and very very few forms of dance have made that cut, so relatively few people recognize it as such.
#no one is calling pantos art and those things are old as fucking time lol. well not that old. but they are a very old form of anglo theatre#the other thing about street dance is that it was invented by black people! and god forbid anything black people do is artistic!!!!!#as someone who went to an art school where they do high concept contemporary art/the stuff that you see in contemporary galleries/museums:#the whole industry moves like fucking white supremacy and relies on the supression of 'lesser' forms in order to keep the industry running#sometimes there's actual white supremacy. sometimes there isn't. but the structure is exactly the same#there's always artists that say they want to 'deconstruct the white cube space' etc etc etc but very rarely do they actually make an effort#to cross disciplinary boundaries or go into the community/do educational outreach to ACTUALLY deconstruct those spaces#because if they actually did that it would make the entire concept of their practice pointless#the master's tools will never dismantle the master's house!!!!!!!!#n e ways. dont go to art school#text#kpop questions#answers#also there's a bias against kpop in general bc of the branding that's been pushed by western media that it's 'manufactured'#and idols themselves aren't artists bc theyre not 'making the work themselves'#which is a further pushing of the monolith artist narrative#also kr media is super guilty of this too. idols are on a really low rung on the 'artistic' ladder#so a lot of these types of comments from fans come from the desire to 'prove' that idols are worthy of making art#but they end up being insults bc kpoppies are dreadfully offensively and tragically uninformed#jokes on them the whole industry's been making art this whole time! just most of it is bad!

this call was released anonymously (understandably) but my local Palestinian organizers who I literally trust with my life have endorsed it, and it seems to be gaining momentum in multiple cities, so I encourage you all to get involved:
"A proposal to coordinate a multi-city economic blockade on April 15th in solidarity with Palestine recently received overwhelming commitments to participate around the US and internationally.
The proposal states that in each city, we will identify and blockade major choke points in the economy, focusing on points of production and circulation with the aim of causing the most economic impact, as did the port shutdowns in recent months in Oakland, California and Melbourne, Australia, as just a few examples.
There is a sense in the streets in this recent and unprecedented movement for Palestine that escalation has become necessary: there is a need to shift from symbolic actions to those that cause pain to the economy.
As Yemen is bombed to secure global trade, and billions of dollars are sent to the Zionist war machine, we must recognize that the global economy is complicit in genocide and together we will coordinate to disrupt and blockade economic logistical hubs and the flow of capital."
ETA: since I posted, organizers in St. Louis, Seoul, Brussels, and the Netherlands have signed onto the agreement, so if you saw this before and your city wasn't listed look again. anyone with the capacity to do some outreach, and a few connections to start with, could take the initiative to bring their city or region on board. read the solidarity agreement and check out the resources, and if you know trustworthy people in your area who might be interested in this sort of thing, talk to them about it.
remember that this isn't a series of protests (although some cities are organizing protests in conjunction), it's a commitment to take mass direct action and to maintain a united front in the face of any state repression. many organizers are (and have already been) using an affinity group model to actually coordinate those direct actions. autonomous groups can take action on April 15th whether or not others in their city/region have committed to this agreement. just do your homework (look up know-your-rights info specific to where you live + general direct action safety tips) and take good care of each other Blockades: a short guide to getting in the way Basic blockading Practical Protest Techniques: using your body Blockading: a guide ACT UP civil disobedience guide

Soup Lady on the Eastside
When the call goes out from Street Angels for soup, I make soup. I made twenty cups of soup this afternoon. I usually make forty. But I figured making forty takes away the privilege of making twenty from somebody else. Like why be greedy with the soup-making, right? I make the same soup every time. Well, the first soup which was maybe a year ago was bean with sausage and that was a fine soup.…

US Harm Reduction Resources
continually updating, not a complete list. feel free to add on any resources you find helpful.
Free Safer Supplies:
Each organization will have different supplies, but generally, harm reduction orgs provide things like syringes, safer snorting + smoking kits, Narcan, condoms, lube, and wound care supplies. Each org has different policies for how to get supplies--some do deliveries, some have drop in centers, some only do one to one needle exchange, some are more flexible.
Next Distro: mail based syringe provider for certain states. Also mails free Narcan.
NASEN: national map of syringe providers
a lot of harm reduction collectives aren't going to have their information listed on big national websites--it's always worth searching "harm reduction in my area" and seeing what's around you. Even if you don't live in a big city, there might be a harm reduction organization in your state that can help you find someone closer to you. there's a lot of rad people doing underground work who want to be there to help you who aren't as easy to find online. If there's street medic collectives, mutual aid groups or groups like Food not Bombs in your area, you can ask people in them who might know where to find harm reduction services in your area!
Drug Users Unions:
Drug users unions are activist groups made for people who use drugs, by people who use drugs! Drug users unions do advocacy work to end criminalization, as well as providing vital community support. Many drug users unions are also inclusive of sex workers and work to decriminalize sex work as well. You can search for "drug users union" in your state.
Urban Survivors Union: National, has resources for creating drug users union
Chosen Few: Drug users union for Black drug users in DC
San Francisco Drug users union
Sex Work Advocacy Groups:
Organizations that do decrim advocacy and provide support for sex workers.
Sex Worker Outreach Project USA- National, has chapters in many states.
Black Sex Worker Collective
Sex Workers Project
How to Use Safely:
Guides, videos, toolkits for safer use!
Harm Reduction Coalition Resource Library
Getting Off Right: A Safety Manual for Injection Drug Users
Safer Crack Smoking
Safer Snorting
Safer Hormone Injection
Levels of Risk: Veins
Wound Care video w/ ASL
How to Use Fentanyl Test Strips
DanceSafe-testing kits, including reagent testing kits!
Erowid-shares experiences people have with different drugs, dosages, what things to expect
Bluelight- another forum for discussing experiences with drugs.
Drug Interactions Checker
Sex Work Resources:
Tricks of the Trade by L. Synn Stern: tips for street based sex work
A Quick and Dirty Sex Worker Safety Toolkit

Hotlines:
Never Use Alone: 877-696-1996. Overdose Prevention Hotline--Volunteers stay on the phone with you while you use and call emergency services if you overdose.

Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #10
March 15-22 2024
The EPA announced new emission standards with the goal of having more than half of new cars and light trucks sold in the US be low/zero emission by 2032. One of the most significant climate regulations in the nation’s history, it'll eliminate 7 billion tons of CO2 emissions over the next 30 years. It's part of President Biden's goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030 on the road to eliminating them totally by 2050.
President Biden canceled nearly 6 Billion dollars in student loan debt. 78,000 borrowers who work in public sector jobs, teachers, nurses, social workers, firefighters etc will have their debt totally forgiven. An additional 380,000 public service workers will be informed that they qualify to have their loans forgiven over the next 2 years. The Biden Administration has now forgiven $143.6 Billion in student loan debt for 4 million Americans since the Supreme Court struck down the original student loan forgiveness plan last year.
Under Pressure from the administration and Democrats in Congress Drugmaker AstraZeneca caps the price of its inhalers at $35. AstraZeneca joins rival Boehringer Ingelheim in capping the price of inhalers at $35, the price the Biden Admin capped the price of insulin for seniors. The move comes as the Federal Trade Commission challenges AstraZeneca’s patents, and Senator Bernie Sanders in his role as Democratic chair of the Senate Health Committee investigates drug pricing.
The Department of Justice sued Apple for being an illegal monopoly in smartphones. The DoJ is joined by 16 state attorneys general. The DoJ accuses Apple of illegally stifling competition with how its apps work and seeking to undermining technologies that compete with its own apps.
The EPA passed a rule banning the final type of asbestos still used in the United States. The banning of chrysotile asbestos (known as white asbestos) marks the first time since 1989 the EPA taken action on asbestos, when it passed a partial ban. 40,000 deaths a year in the US are linked to asbestos
President Biden announced $8.5 billion to help build advanced computer chips in America. Currently America only manufactures 10% of the world's chips and none of the most advanced next generation of chips. The deal with Intel will open 4 factories across 4 states (Arizona, Ohio, New Mexico, and Oregon) and create 30,000 new jobs. The Administration hopes that by 2030 America will make 20% of the world's leading-edge chips.
President Biden signed an Executive Order prioritizing research into women's health. The order will direct $200 million into women's health across the government including comprehensive studies of menopause health by the Department of Defense and new outreach by the Indian Health Service to better meet the needs of American Indian and Alaska Native Women. This comes on top of $100 million secured by First Lady Jill Biden from ARPA-H.
Democratic Senators Bob Casey, Tammy Baldwin, Sherrod Brown, and Jacky Rosen (all up for re-election) along with Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, and Sheldon Whitehouse, introduced the "Shrinkflation Prevention Act" The Bill seeks to stop the practice of companies charging the same amount for products that have been subtly shrunk so consumers pay more for less.
The Department of Transportation will invest $45 million in projects that improve Bicyclist and Pedestrian Connectivity and Safety
The EPA will spend $77 Million to put 180 electric school buses onto the streets of New York City This is part of New York's goal to transition its whole school bus fleet to electric by 2035.
The Senate confirmed President Biden's nomination of Nicole Berner to the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Berner has served as the general counsel for America's largest union, SEIU, since 2017 and worked in their legal department since 2006. On behalf of SEIU she's worked on cases supporting the Affordable Care Act, DACA, and against the Defense of Marriage act and was part of the Fight for 15. Before working at SEIU she was a staff attorney at Planned Parenthood. Berner's name was listed by the liberal group Demand Justice as someone they'd like to see on the Supreme Court. Berner becomes one of just 5 LGBT federal appeals court judges, 3 appointed by Biden. The Senate also confirmed Edward Kiel and Eumi Lee to be district judges in New Jersey and Northern California respectively, bring the number of federal judges appointed by Biden to 188.

tbh i think we moved on from venom!luke way too quickly. spiderman!luke this spiderman!luke that he would destroy anyone who even looked at his girl the wrong way.
implied murder; dark!luke; venom!luke; blood mentioned, explicit sexual content; MDNI
he crashes into your apartment through the window, landing right on the dirtied and bloodied rug you brought just to soften the blows of his falls. your headphones are knocked off of your head and your laptop is closed as you approach him, your hands already outreached and your eyes searching for the newest bruise of the night. he's wearing a different suit, completely blacked out as compared to the usual primary colors you got used to seeing him in.
the dark color hides any blood you could have seen, so you resort to touching, trying to feel both the invisible zipper you helped him install and any liquid that shouldn't have been there. you find both quicker than you anticipate, but when you glide the zipper of luke's suit down and peel the material away from his skin, he looks perfect. there's nothing wrong, save for a few scrapes on his face.
but the blood on your hands is too much for him to be fine.
"luke?" you ask him, alarm bells ringing in your head when his bare hands cup your cheeks and they're warm and wet, just like the blood coating your hands.
he looks at you, and he looks off. there's something not right, something missing in his gaze.
maybe you would have been able to question him if he hadn't pressed his lips to yours. if he hadn't stood and took you with him. if he hadn't slotted his hands at the back of your thighs and lifted you up, making you wrap your legs around his waist as he carried you to the bed.
you should feel a little ashamed about how quick you are to let your worries sit agitatedly on the back burner while you let luke please you. the blood he rubbed all along your body should have concerned you, you should have been more worried about it. you should have pressed him on the subject instead of taking his curt, "it's not mine, don't worry about it" as enough explanation while he lined himself up with your entrance.
just the smallest concern rises whenever he's fucking you with long, slow, searching thrusts, his lips right by your ear as he tells you, "you don't have to worry about anything anymore." but his words were so sweet, so reassuring, and his thrusts were so beautiful and magnetic, pulling you closer to him even whenever he pulled out.
"no one's gonna bother you again, okay? i made sure of that, angel."
the implications of his words don't make sense until a little far into the future. after the blood has been rinsed from your skin, the sun has risen again, and a nuisance on the corner of the street is gone from his post, disappeared into the night at the hands of forces which you refuse to truly acknowledge, even as you crawl back into it's arms later that evening.

FIRST PLACE part 3
pairings: Xavier thorpe x Fem!reader summary: hating each other doesn't really work out when there's different feelings hiding beneath it. warning: swearing, them being assholes to each other. note: reader is Wednesday's cousin. again. pretty long. I told myself this would be the last part but I got carried away. sooooo part 4 tomorrow so comment if you would like to be tagged in that
part 1 part 2 part 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xavier's POV
"Y/n!" I knocked on her window "can we talk"
the lights were off but there was noise coming from inside
"you can't ignore me forever" I sighed.
the window was slightly open so I took my chance and pushed it open more. climbing into her room.
I looked around and walked to her desk. looking at the statue of a frog playing an instrument. It was an odd concept but it seemed like something she would like, I picked it up and examined it closer until I heard footsteps coming to the door, I quickly put the frog down and made my way out the window again.
---
"you snuck into my room" you said walking up to Xavier
"what?" he questioned, Looking at you confused
"you broke into my room last night" you stated
"no I didn't" he denied quickly
"there's no point in lying, Xavier. there's proof. you're an amateur in that department"
"what proof do you have then?" he asked, getting annoyed
you pulled out a little zip-lock bag with a single hair in it
"is that a strand of hair?" Xavier spoke surprised and shocked
"a strand of your hair, yes" you nodded
"that could be anyone's hair" he defended himself
"It could've been, that's why Wednesday got it tested" you insited
"what the hell do you mean you got it tested?" he replied
"i think you know what it means" you huffed
"you're insane"
"I got to my room last night only for my room to smell like you, I find my frog in the wrong place and a single hair my floor. not to mention my window was an inch more open than when I left it. and when I looked out of it, I find that you're not at you painting on the wall, but your supplies are" you investigated "care to explain why?"
"again, you're insane" he scoffed
"no, I'm just observant" you spoke dully
"right, ok" he rolled his eye
"why were you in my room?" you demanded an answer
"I wanted to talk to you" he shrugged
"what is so important to tell me that you had to break into my room?" you huffed, crossing you arms
"wel- how do you know what I smell like?" he trailed off
"what?" you furrowed your eyebrows
"you said you got to your room and noticed it smelt like me. how do you know what I smell like?" he smirked
"because it smelt shit just like you"
"are you sure about that?" he chuckled
"I'm certain" you said before you turned away.
as you walked off, you and Xavier both took a deep breath and gulped.
---
During Outreach day, you snuck away from your group to go to the cafe
"what do you want?" Xavier asked
"A coffee, that's what everyone comes in here for" you told him simply
"what type of coffee?" he sighed
"one without your spit in it" you shrugged
"why would I spit in your coffee?" he shook his head in disappointment
"I don't know, the look on your face said it"
"what coffee would you like?" he questioned
"maybe a frappe" you said, looking at the menu at the top
"maybe? it's a yes or a no" he huffed, getting impatient
you smiled sarcastically "first of all, you're not getting a tip anymore. and yes, I'll have a coffee frappe"
"7.50"
you gave him the money and walked to your table. looking out the window to the street
you pulled out your phone and scrolled through pages, seeing Enid's page was updated with the latest 'gossip'
it was a photo of two people taken from a distance, you couldn't recognise the people in the photo so you read the description
'these two seem to talk a bit too much for them to be just enemies' it read
it was only posted a minute ago, with only one like and a single comment
as you looked at the comments under it you saw a comment from Xavier
'Enid take this down right now'
it was until then that you noticed it was you and Xavier in the photo
"here's your Coffee frappe without spit" Xavier put down the drink
"thanks" you mumbled
you messaged Enid, telling her to take the post down as soon as possible, not even a second later she gave in and said she would take it down. you thanked her and put your phone away, taking a sip of your drink.
----
"what the hell are you doing?" Xaviers voice called out from the rain. you looked up at him to see him with an umbrella
"why are you here?" you glared at him
"Wednesday told me you planned on going around here." he explained
"that doesn't answer my question" you blinked blankly
"just get under the umbrella" he moved closer to you, trying to get you under the purple umbrella with him
"I don't need protection from the rain" you stated
"I don't want you to get sick" he pleaded
"since when do you care if I get sick or not?" you investigated
"fine" he grumbled
"what's wrong with you?" you rebuked
"nothing?"
"stop. you've been acting weird lately and I don't like it" you spat
"what do you want from me?" he quizzed
"to act like you did before, like you hate and not care about me" you declared
"I do hate you" he nodded his head
"that's not what logic says" you pointed out
"what logic?" he retorted
"you have a drawing of me in your notebook, you're always around me now and you kissed me the other day" you announced "any logical person would say that you have feelings for me, but I refuse to be under your trap"
"trap? what trap!?" he said loudly
"the one where you think you can trap me into thinking I don't hate you" you explained
"you're insane! you know that? I'm basically serving my feelings to you on a silver platter here and you say I'm trapping you?" he yelled at you
"yes, that is what I said" you nodded
"what is wrong with you?!" he screamed as the rain got heavier
you stayed silent, you didn't want to answer him anymore so you just stared at him blankly.
"I could ask the same question" you mumbled, walking past him
----
It was quiet in the quad as you stared at the boy from afar.
he was oblivious to you behind him as he painted the wall
"I hate you" you must of scared him for a second time and made him mess up for the second time
"oh yeah? care to share why that is?" he huffed, mad at you
"you are an asshole"
"yeah? you're not the nicest person either" he rolled his eyes
"I have done nothing to you!" you yelled at him
"is that really what you believe in your twisted little mind?" he growled. putting his paintbrush down and backing you up into a pillar
"It's not a belief, It's a fact" you corrected
"you know what else is a fact?" he took a short pause, not caring for your answer "you're being a bitch"
"I've always liked dogs" you glared at him
"you can't be serious? I tell you I like you and you just walk away like I don't matter. Like my feelings don't matter!" he yelled "and the sad part is that you don't even care, you think you're treating me fairly!"
"I hate you, how else am I supposed to treat someone I hate?" you questioned
"yeah, right, why do you hate me again? because you're afraid of showing your emotions? afraid of the true feelings you have for me?" he laughed dryly
"you scared me" you stated
"I scared you" he chuckled, licking his lips while looking down at his feet, he shook his head amused as his dimples became more defined
"that's pathetic. I scared you one time and you hate my guts and torture me for years? I apologised for doing it a million times!" he yelled hysterically
"why are you so mad?"
"I was trying to impress you! I have always tried impressing you but you don't get it. you just flip out. I was excited to show you what I could do. I didn't draw or animate for months after that. you hurt my feelings and you didn't even care!" he shouted
"why should I care?" you grilled
"do you seriously have no emotions or feelings whatsoever? it is so pathetic how little empathy you have for others." he scoffed
"feelings are a waste of time and emotions show weakness" you explained dully
"you are" he took a deep breath "a horrible person"
"I'm trying to not hurt your feelings" you said
"you already did! did you seriously think you can treat me like shit and not hurt my feelings!?" he screamed, running his hands down his face in frustration.
"it's not my fault I can't interpret you're emotions, it's nothing personal." you shrugged
"No, it never is with you, is it?! and you can't even apologise, you just come out with an excuse! I'm done with your bullshit. I should've been done a long time ago" he sighed angrily, hitting the pillar he had you against
"why haven't you sooner?"
"Because I love you!" he disclosed loudly "it's kind of hard to just forget those types of feelings for a person and leave"
"you should've told me" you swallowed a lump in your throat
"why do you think I came to your room that night, and even if I did you would've turn me down. every. single. time" he smiled sadly
you didn't know what to say. you couldn't form words. you didn't love emotions, but you couldn't stop them, it was a human right to have feelings.

he walked away from you one last time.
