I'm so thankful for you sharing the importance of protecting minors from sexual content. My parents and I didn't have much knowledge back then and I was exposed to this kind of stuff too early. I developed bad habits. I somehow deceived my family into trusting me way too much and, when I saw I had lost control and I asked for help, I saw my family was also hurt and they spent a lot on therapy and my anxiety medication. I have forgiven them for not knowing back them. But I still haven't forgiven myself for getting them through all that stuff. It's important to understand how much we need to protect minors from sexual content. Family members and artists, please pay attention to the content young audience is exposed to.

Of course! I can relate a lot to this. My parents were really good at monitoring what I was doing online for a while but they started trusting me more and I unfortunately started seeing a lot of stuff I shouldn't have but would keep it secret. Gonna talk about my experience a lil bit under the cut just bc I've been reflecting on it a lot recently (tw for grooming)

I gained a following of around 25K on deviantart by the time I was around 15/16. It was in the worst fandom too (mlp). I'd have a lot of much older men talking to me, drawing/writing nsfw of my characters who were underaged (they'd draw nsfw of myself and my sonas as well). It was so normalized for me and I didn't see anything wrong with it at the time.

I'd shipped Spike and Rarity at the time (very much do not anymore) and adult men would use that ship as a basis for trying to talk to me or get in a relationship. "We're just like Sparity! You're young but you're very mature for your age, so it's fine." I remember one guy trying REALLY hard to try and get me to move in with him. I was pretty creeped out then, but like holy shit that's SUPER creepy and I'm fortunate that he didn't keep trying after I gave him a hard "no".

It bled into my real life a bit when I met a 22 y/o man who asked me out when I was just 16 just turning 17. Luckily the relationship was NOT long lasting (I think he realized that I'm a very boring person LMAO) but I think about how I thought that that was a perfectly normal. I'd date go on to date people who were probably too old for me.

Also around when I was 16/17, people started shipping me with another artist in the fandom who was several years older than I was (side note: nothing wrong with an age gap! but it's very not okay when there's "waiting" for someone to be of legal age involved). I did end up dating said artist after I turned 18 and it was fine, I wasn't hurt or anything but I did find weird that we were shipped when I was still a teenager looking back (there was also nsfw drawn of us together before/when we were dating)

I just had such a warped sense of reality for a long because of this shit. I'm glad there's more conversations about this stuff and it's more known that adults should have little to no personal interaction with kids on the internet and vice versa. There's way too many stories of kids getting taken advantage of in fandom spaces. I think I got off fairly lucky all things considered. But bottom line YES kids need to be protected online and their exposure to sexual content/adult spaces should be limited or monitored. It's also really tough though because not all kids have adults in their real life that they can trust or go to to ask questions about sex so they seek solace in adults online and it's just a constant cycle.

I'm honestly unsure of what to do about that and I don't have all the answers but I ultimately just don't want kids online to end up in similar positions I was in when I was younger. I just do my best

have you ever talked about the origins of your sona/her design inspirations before? ive always really loved her design and i like hearing about how nice character designs come to be

here is the full tale

she started off as a mere picrew years ago

and then people drew fanart of that design whenever i started streaming (like this retro mimi model @catastrothy made)

and then at some point i thought "hm wouldn't it be cool if i paid an artist to make her design better" and then i approached noted good local artist @cnmchn and we went back and forth on some stuff and She were born proper

hair accessories were considered at one point but then we thought of the ミ earrings and i just colored in one of her streaks black lmao

final design ended up using a combination of outfit elements from our two examples, rip to alt universe skirt spats and kneesocks short braid loose hoodie long shirt ribs mimi (she will be missed) (i should draw that sometime)

uh. riamu failgirl, kumbhira granblue, we almost stole astolfo's haircut sans hair vents (though I think it was actually edward elric who made me think 'braid'), vampy granblue. as for the tenets of her design i just wanted a cute, colorful, energetic, annoying, smug, punchable little beast to match my vibe. her fashion sense is like the complete opposite of mine tho lmao this little freak dresses in this skimpy summery crop top and short shorts getup and shit meanwhile i'm a jeans-all-year and longsleeves/hoodie at all times kinda bitch. at least she still melts in the heat like i do

anyways i figure i may as well dump some silly canon stuff here too:

she's a being from what she says is 'the hell that froze over' (because it sounds cool), in actuality it's probably something more like a frozen-over planet with some level of aquatic life under the ice.

at a base level, she's kinda like... if a slimegirl was a crab? like, she's not made out of slime it's still Meat Stuff but it's definitely amorphous and should usually be contained within a thick carapace on the exterior (so when fully shelled, lookin like some kinda scary lookin pointy bone demon). she claims to have lost hers or that it hasn't grown in yet or some such (hence she only has the horn covering)

anyways. her inside meat being amorphous = limited shapeshifting ability, so she somehow ended up on Earth and is posing as a humanoid and having a ton of fun eating and smoking and breaking stuff. but she still fuckin' hates the sun and heat

other fun facts:

loves meat, milk, sweet stuff, clothes, sleeping, swimming, video james (bad at them), money

hates spicy stuff, hot weather, working, people as stubborn as she is, waiting

i'm torn on when her birthday should be. officially it's technically 5/21, but 3/3 would be cute...

I'll be happy with just about anything, it just is so sweet that people want to draw me anything at all. if you're curious I do technically have a sona I guess it's called? it started with my super cool pfp on twitter drawn by the lovely @aweirdlisa which is me but, like, with kind of a bee themed outfit going on and a cool skeleton arm and leg? and then for my past birthday the amazing @firexima drew that same sona that lisa had drawn me which is now my tumblr pfp here, so yeah. my sona is basically just girl with short blonde hair and bangs, wearing a tank top kind of designed to look like a bee and with bee wings, usually holding a book and pencil, and with an optional skeleton arm lol. my advice is add on to the design over time and not all at once. its way easier that way. draw a base w a tee shirt n reg old pants if u cant think of an outfit, think of a hairstyle you like to wear the most, fav color/ a color that ends up coming up a lot in your life (maybe you wanna go off of homestuck's thematic colors).

as for a kid symbol, u dont have to think too deeply about it. infact its best if u dont. 5/8 kids have merch tees of some kind that are maybe slightly altered. the others are just something related to their hobbies :] it would work perfectly fine if u have a shirt you like wearing a lot that has a simple design that u just wanna transfer into ur sona.

w a specibus, the kids w normal (ish) home environments used shit they just had around to fight with. i got (garden) shear-kind and a joker-kind for gags and goofs. what's the first thing u would use as a weapon if shit started to go down at ur house :]

u can flesh out the details the more u draw them, or if u dont know what to draw them doing u can edit/ redraw a panel with them doing something. id recommend drawing the stylized sprite after when u got an idea of what u want to do w ur hair. that shit is ROUGH.

okay i gotta preface this with: i have been doing commissions for over a decade. everything i say here i've been doing since roughly 2014, but my career as an artist didn't really Take Off and become reliable until 2019. success isn't immediate. some artists will grow faster or slower than others, not every tactic is going to apply / work for every artist; and that's okay. just keep pushing yourself and adapting and figuring out what works for You!

i’m putting this under a readmore as it got a bit long. every time someone asks me for advice on professional Anything i always write up a five page essay despite trying to bulletpoint it oof

post on multiple platforms and keep them all updated. i’m putting this one in bold because it is possibly the Most Important thing. we’re all watching twitter sinking over there, and many of my mutuals there were floundering because they hadn’t established themselves on any other social media site. i strongly recommend three or four socials minimum. my main four sites are tumblr, deviantart, twitter and toyhouse. furaffinity is also good. inkblot and artfol are new and i use them frequently as well. if you don’t like posting manually to every site each and every time you post art, Postybirb exists and is what i use to crosspost all my art to most of my socials at once.

avoid venting a lot on main. we all have frustrating days where our art isn’t getting the recognition we hoped, or we’re feeling petty about a controversial topic or the latest drama. it happens! it’s okay! however, many people just don’t like seeing dozens of negative posts on their feed. most people will sympathize, but if your negative vents are constantly clogging their dashboard they’re not gonna stick around.

shamelessly self promote yourself. reblog your own art. retweet it again. repost it. mention your other socials. we live in a world of timezones! when you post art, only a fraction of your audience is going to see it. i recommend reblogging / retweeting one to four individual pieces periodically over the course of a day and change it up each day. you can also repost your own work into photosets and title it “recent commissions” or the something like that.

don’t hide your linktrees and carrds. seriously! the amount of times on twitter i went to try and follow someone on another platform only to find they had no carrd or linktree link,, it is infuriating. put your socials link in your bio or pinned or SOMEWHERE readily at the top of your profile that’s easy to spot.

if you’re offering commissions, make a telegram channel or discord server for your announcements / openings.

post regularly. this one is a lot harder for artists that don’t make a lot of content, but posting even a status update once or twice a day can go a long way - especially if you’re on twitter with that platform’s hideous algorithm. alternatively as i said earlier, just retweet/reblog your work a few times a day and you should be good.

art trends are cool and fun and an easy way to get your work seen by others. see a “draw your sona in this outfit” meme? go, have fun with it. this one’s a bit tricky as timing is everything when it comes to ~trending~ content, so try and draw quick. that said, it’s never outdated to drawover reaction memes with your fursona.

try not to clog your socials with memes and shitposty images. this one is directed at twitter specifically. with twitter moments now gone, your media tab is the last way for people to hope to find your work organically on your profile without having to use the twitter search. they can’t get invested in your work if they can’t find it!

it’s okay to change course if you’re not vibing with where you’re headed. if you want to move onto a new aesthetic - that’s fine! you may lose some followers if they don’t click with your new vibe, but you’ll inevitably gain some new ones.

avoid frequent name changes. so many of the artists i follow have changed their brands / urls over the years that i don’t recognize them anymore.

tag your work properly. on tumblr, the first five tags on the original post are the tags your work will pop up in in the search feature. make those first five tags the Most important ones; example: #furry, #anthro, #art #fursona etc. twitter’s algo seems flip-flop if it likes tags or hates them. if you see a tag trending, repost your art in a photoset with the hashtag in the post [example: if #pokemon is trending, repost some of your pokemon fanart with the hashtag in the post body]. if the tag isn’t trending,,, i’ll be honest it’s a gamble if twitter likes your post or not at that point. i have no advice for that hell algorithm.

hosting raffles or doing a mini art request event [example: “leave a ref and i might draw your oc”] is good for traction while simultaneously giving back to the community + your audience a little!

try and reply to / like comments on your work. it’s not required per se, but it’s good to express gratitude.

engage with other members of the community. comment on other peoples work. like it. retweet it. follow other people. obviously don’t be disingenuous about it, but this is what the professionals call ~networking~

don’t compare yourself to others. this one is one you have got to keep in mind constantly. you’re going to find 17 year olds with huge followings and 30 year olds that are doing professional industry work whose level feels alien and almost out of reach. if you’re not doing as well, don’t let yourself get discouraged. we all gotta start somewhere!

related to the above point: be nice to your followers. venting on main about not having the same audience volume as others can come off as a huge middle finger to the audience you already have.

gaining a following takes time. unless you get a really lucky break, it’s going to take a lot of work and self promotion to build up your brand.

slap your name on everything. i mean it. any art you do - sign it. watermark it. people can and will share art in telegram channels and discord servers, and if the art interests someone they can easily source it back to you if your name is on it.

you can buy adspace. if you’re catering to a furry audience specifically, you can buy adspace on furaffinity pretty easily. inkblot i believe also offers adspace for artists though i haven’t looked too deep into it. this is really a “if you’re okay burning money” situation, as the huge chunkk of internet users have adblockers now and it’s a gamble if people will see or even click on your ad.

just have fun and do your own thing. you can hop on trends and draw art that caters to your audience’s tastes, but don’t forget to draw what YOU want and what YOU’RE about. Draw what makes YOU happy.

OKAY TO START OFF ID LIKE TO APOLOGIZE TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SENT IN QUESTIONS TO MY INBOX! If you have sent me an anon or ask of any kind, I'd like you to know its most likely still hanging around in there, waiting to get drawn, however i am also SWAMPED by both these inbox asks, and the actual fics that im meant to be writing.

I'm trying to keep the inbox casual, only responding to asks that personally inspire me to draw or write- the only problem being you all are so fucking creative that i wanna address nearly ALL of them, and I STILL have to update Survey Says-!

suffice to say, I'm working on them, but i'm also working at a pace that also allows for me to not freak my bean over some stuff.

Thank you anon, for this chance to finally infodump about my g/t ocs! Just a fair warning, this miiight get long, we’ll see! (I have a lot of em.. So the short answer to your question, yes I do. The long ones under the cut…)

First off, we have my sona, Munchkin :D

(It’s a rather messy sketch, sorry about that)

Munchkin’s a sizeshifting borrower from the sacred realm, destined to try hard and fail.

She’s gotten backstabbed and killed too many times to count, the only thing keeping her alive is Amble, Red, and the group of friends she made as a person wearing a sparkly box from the silent realm.

✨anon✨’s design is interesting, because she’s still mostly herself, with her tail and personality, whereas most people would get consumed, considering it’s a pretty strong mask… huh, strange.

(Just to be clear, I’m not covering all my oc’s, just a few of them, because I’d rather not have over ten thousand words on this post accidentally)

We have Charlie and Adre, from UCD, links to chapter one and two here and here (it’s earlier on in my writing phase, so I’m warning you they aren’t very good, also it’s mainly been Charlie, with only a slight mention of Adre but oh well-)

Charlie is a Dreamer, which is a small avian race that hates humans for burning the Astrodaryn forest and attempting to destroy all magic, forcing them to flee to the sky. The seeds they have hanging around their neck are from the forest, it’s where their magic comes from.

The goal is to get rid of the humans, and replant the forest. Read the first two chapters for more information.

Meanwhile…

Adre is a human that is called cursed due to his eyes. His pitch black eyes with white pupils, so therefore a lot of people assume he’s magic/dangerous and he gets outcasted.

I don’t want to say too much about him, I want to keep him a surprise for the most part, but let’s just say he finds a small bird person and the authorities aren’t very happy about that…

I have more ocs for this story, but they have not appeared yet/I haven’t made drawings of them/I don’t feel like looking for drawings rn :D

Everyone has their sona's. These are mine.

You might be asking I thought you only had your dragon sona. And as of now yes. "AmphiptereArt" is my current sona. But I once went by Cheedon. And once dragon horse. There's been various other names. Like dead ice dragon or zombie in tin foil, but the ones listed previous were the ones I connected with most.

Dragon horse was the first. Made them when I was very young. I loved what every little girl loved. Horses, and of course as I started to grow I fell in love with dragons. Therefore dragon horse was born. A simple concept, for a simple time of art, but one I kept for years. It wasn't until I got into Junior high that they faded and retired.

Then there was cheedon. Oh I loved him so. So many years where he was me. Another hybrid animal of a cheetah and a smilodon. But one that had heart. Mystical dragonwings of freedom followed him. Art was no longer a childish endearment. It was a pride.

He is where the yearly re-draws started. The one I used to celebrate with. He gave me hope. Spreading his wings as I indulged myself in art just for the fun of it. Because I could. Because I wanted to. There was no deadline. There was the one to impress. I was drawing for me. And I still hold him as the king of pencil and paper.

And then there was my dragon sona. AmphiptereArt. I had to start work. I had to make sure my life ended up somewhere. This little dragon was drawn in the margins. A returning idea that kept coming back. Finally given form after so many years. Created as an ambassador for a digital age.

They are me after years of art. A dragon made of every little piece of my creations that I enjoyed. Made out of the colors I favored the most. Made after the dragon creatures I created and shaped. But they are left small. Crushed by the weight of what an adult has to do. Stuck as I force myself to evolve. To gain a reputation so hopefully my hobby can become a job.

Life has been unfair of recent. Tight, crushing, wanting, waiting.

This doodle was just supposed to just be showing off the different heights of my sona's. I did it because I got hurt and decided to do something "simple". . But in recent times this has been the most fun drawing I have done.

What was supposed to be a simple mindless doodle made me so happy that I kept going. I kept adding and adding. This thing wasn't supposed to have colors. Or details, or shading. But this felt so right I couldn't stop.

I love blue moon. I love the daycare attendant's. I love FNAF, but if in order to get out of this stupor I have to draw creatures I will. I need to feel happy. I need to feel pride for more than just finishing a project. I need to feel pride for just doing something fun. Because I could. Because I wanted to.

I will still be answering asks. Perhaps doing a calming sams doodle once in a while. But I got to make a creature. I have one in my mind already. I hope you guys don't mind a small break.

Awakening

That's right! guess who's finally back into the swing of things! your favorite pink haired fox thing, things have finally settled down. and i'm somewhat caught up with my collage work, but now i feel safe and mentally secure enough to start working on my blog and my boys again; if you all have noticed or not the blog has gotten some visual upgrades, mainly it is lore and that lore will be unlocked going further down the line. i want the lore to be like a fun puzzle, i will be sprinkling hints as i go. now that states this blog will still be goofy silly haha 2p hot men, but lore is still fun to have and i like making it now some more updates below

For Starters, it's been a while since i've shared about my precious cats. We'll start with my older son, Thomas (tried to be Tomato but Thomas stuck) he is a big fat boy, love him a lots and his Brother Catalina (we thought he was a girl until he grew nuts)

so those are how the cats are and of course if you guys ever want i'll happily show some more pictues of my sweet baby boys. but now to the actual star of the blog and what you really wanna see. . . . . .

Now the 2ps, so i have made a realization that on this blog i currently have 41 2p characters for the blog and 164 characters in total for the blog. so to make it so i don't end up fucking dying from trying to ya know trying to draw and keep track of every character. i will be separating main 2ps from side 2ps, you can of course still talk and ask the side cast stuff but i will mainly be focusing on the main cast. speaking off the main cast they will be getting some outfit changes/new looks just because i wanna give them some nicer outfits, the main cast will also be getting some more Indepth information that i will be posting on the blog so you can learn more about some of the lore i have for them

Klaus and Azrail are in grey cube jail because they are so ungodly pale that they disappear on the white background so i needed a different color to help them pop out but looking at it they are still kinda pale, at least they're a little bit more visible.

of course i also have a good few asks that i need to answer from last i left the blog off, although i won't be answering all of them as i will mainly be cleaning out my inbox and answering the ones that i feel like i can answer in a way that won't be disappointing. that includes a joke one my boyfriend gave because he is silly (i love him despite his silliness) so rest assure that there will be some asks finally answered but i hope i will get some new ones seeing as i will be more active (the art will be simpilar to help me do this easier)

i will also be doing more artist adventures with my 2ps, one of those things i want to do is animation and animatics. so expect to see some of those in the future, but if you would like to see early wips and other stuff i may do i do have a youtube channel although so far it's only character playlists for some random 2ps but i will still give the link if you guys are interested

um i'm not sure what else i should mention in this update, uhhhhhhhh oh! right you might be wondering why i'm orange simple reason is that it's autumn so ya'know orange. yeah seeing as my Sona Jam is an animal like creature i made it so she changes during the seasons. mainly to reflect how i like to change during the seasons (close and hair wise) funny enough in the species i made for Jam the they only change for winter but Jam is special as she changes seasonally.

Please tell me about your ocs I’d love to hear <3

YAY okay so my first oc is Marius (they/them or he/she, I haven’t decided yet. White[?], intersex polyam aroace, seems to be in their 40s, started off as a sona but is still a self insert), then we have Bonnie (she/her, aboriginal, bi polyam trans woman/sistergirl, seems to be in her 40s), and finally Edward (he/him, Indian and Dutch, polyam bi trans man, seems to be in his 40s)! Relationship wise, Marius is in a qpr with Bonnie and Edward, who are married.

Content warning for like violence and minor descriptions of gore and cannibalism and unhealthy relationships and (mcd) death and corpses!

So Marius is an Angel sent to earth (specifically Australia because hell yeah represent) to help the survivors of a major world wide nuclear destruction or attack. Marius soon learns that most survivors are vampires, who feel the affects of the radiation much slower. Marius eventually gets eaten and gutted and killed by a group of vampires before being picked up by another group of vampires and taken to this shelter/institution where Bonnie and Edward work together to bring Marius back to life.

Also worth mentioning that Marius had known and helped Bonnie back when she was still alive/not a vampire with like science shit and also before bonnie dug up Edward and brought him back to life (Bonnie did this in the 1970s and Edward had died in the 1940s)

So Marius is brought back wrong (used to be really happy and cheerful and shit but is now really angry and aggressive but still loving. I’m pushing all my aggression and possible npd/bpd traits into them it’s great) and is now an atypical vampire (since they were just given vampire body parts that corrupted the rest of their body instead of being sired)

Marius struggles with like religious guilt and shit as well as new feeling of decay

At this point I should also share the vampires in my worlds like idk shit.

Vampirism is more of a chronic illness. Most vampires are not sired, and are born with vampirism. Once they die of the symptoms (usually in their 40s-60s) they are now a vampire. Vampires are constantly going through the human decaying process at a slower rate to normal corpses, and don’t feel affects of other illnesses the same or at all. Every month or so they have to bury themselves in the ground to restart the decaying process and get their body back in shape. It can take longer depending on how far into the decaying process their were. Also they have to do this if they are badly injured. They will fully decay and not be able to be brought back (unless I guess bonnie the mad scientist she is brings them back) if they don’t bury themselves.

So anyways Marius doesn’t know how to show their love for Bonnie and Edward, and is also being visited by their Angel spouse (don’t know anything about them yet) so they are just having a rough time with those emotions and also just vampiric stuff. So marius thinks the best way to show their love is to cannibalise Bonnie and Edward. Keep in mind marius thinks this is a human kind of thing to do. This relationship actively hurts everyone involved but they do love each other very much so yay we love toxic yuri/yaoi 💪💪💪

There’s some stuff with the ending where basically marius’ Angel spouse comes and is upset and they argue about marius not loving them anymore and marius cannibalises them but that just kills them and then heaven is sent down to take marius back and punish them so they get Bonnie to kill them and never bury them again it’s pretty wild

FUCK okay edit I forgot to mention that the shelter/institute is a shelter for any vampire who wants to stay and for vampires to research the nuclear shit around them as well as general vampirism shit. Bonnie is just the token mad scientist but Edward is the leading librarian as well as Bonnie’s lab assistant. Bonnie is girlboss and Edward is loser husband <333

I must ask, what is library of ruina?

for your sanity and mine i'll preface this with "there is a short answer and a long answer" and thus i will give you the choice of which one you want to hear

short answer: Library of Ruina is a deckbuilder game made by Project Moon. it takes place after Lobotomy Corporation and has a different art style and play style, and covers the story of Roland and Angela as they search for the one perfect book. also the books are made of people. the pretty outfits from ruina are EGO, which come from ruina's prequel, lobcorp. the best way to describe them is a shell of the human subconscious. there's a ton of them and they're preeeetty.

long answer below:

library of ruina is a story about a sad sad sad man with a dead wife. His name is roland. Roland walks into the titular library and is promptly beaten the shit out of by Angela, who is the AI assistant of the manager in lobcorp. She decides roland is kind of pathetic though and keeps him around as her assistant, and the two of them start on their journey to find The One Perfect Book.

This Perfect Book's supposed to make it so Angela and the other inhabitants of the library (all former employees of lobotomy corporation) can become truly human and leave the library. However, it can only be found by retrieving fragments of the seed of light that were spread across the City in the true ending of lobotomy corporation. The only way for Angela and Roland to make progress to the perfect book is to invite people from the City who have fragments of the light, kill them, and turn them into books (not literally as in the book is flesh but like they just are preserved in the library as a book). Because of how the books work, eventually people start coming to the library to try to get them for corporate secrets or to cover up things, and it gets really out of hand. Also the game is fucking hard as hell so if you're interested you might be better off watching a story summary of it and lobcorp.

Anyway, the game brings back an old feature from lobcorp called EGO, which you could get by using positive enkephalin boxes to create suits of armor or powerful weapons based off of Abnormalities, which are the monsters you manage. They're deeply rooted in the human subconscious, so using them can significantly boost one's abilities. In the material that was released between Lobcorp and Ruina, there was a comic called Wonderlab that discussed what the rest of L corp was doing while (gestures vaguely) lobotomy corporation the game was going down, and they discussed Ego Corrosion, which is when an employee equips EGO gear they are below the level of using. It was super interesting to me and I wanted to draw it out a bit more. I feel like not enough people discuss the writing potential of Ego Corrision so I like thinking about it hee hee

Jay is my little lobcorp sona, but she's kind of starting to evolve into her own oc. I really like her...

I also tried to make her in Ruina but it's tough finding cute outfits.

Unfortunately probably the Miku exaid fic ;-; the concept is fun and cute but with some stuff I get an outline or somethin cookin and then it never sees the light of day again

I think I’m pretty good at detailed descriptions and visuals. I’m much more an artist than a writer, so I’ve spoken before about how I view my stories like written descriptions of story boards, and I absolutely love to try and paint a picture with my words.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

In my actual writing I’m unsure and would love to hear any feedback, but for me it’s actually just GETTINg myself to write. It takes a lot of mental energy to start the task and I can never really make myself do it, it’s only when I’m in a rare and intense mood for writing somethin that I’ve got a REALLY solid idea on. That’s mostly why I’ve got so few fics. I have more ideas, but it’s difficult to get myself to a point with any of them where I’ll actually write any of it out lol

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Personally I think it’s neat when other people do it, but unless it’s French I probably never will. Even then I’d be so nervous about getting it wrong I’d probably find some kinda work around

19. First fandom you wrote for?

On AO3 it’s King Ohger, but in reality…. Oh boy. Warriors fanfic abt my sonas when I was like 10? Outside of OCs my first canon-aligned fanfic was probably one of the my little pony ones on wattpad. I did mostly original character stuff when I wrote frequently as a tween so I guess I didn’t start with fanfic until like a year or two ago.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

I only have a few so I’m proud of them all for different reasons, but I think Sento’s Wandering Mind is one that I’m particularly fond of even tho it didn’t do as well as the others. It’s conceptually something I’ve been trying to put into words for a long time, and it was my first foray into writing anything REMOTELY sexual, which was a huge jump for me that I’m very proud of as a person who previously struggled a lot more with “catholic shame” if I had to put a word to it. It’s kinda a heavy read and isn’t perfect, but the fact that it’s out in the world is important to me and I’m happy with it. Hope you all enjoy!!

How did you make a sona/character without slipping into cringe territory? Like seriously, vic is charming and pretty but doesn't feel like your typical self insert mary-sue, and id love to indulge in my own but worry about unintentionally falling into the cringe pit

How do you avoid it so well?

Hii! Don't worry, I can see what you mean but the way you phrased it came off as very judgmental so here comes a bit of rambling;

First, why does cringe bother you? Why does it stop you from doing what you want? Are you worried that you might dislike your own creation or are you worried that people are going to poke fun of it?

For a long time I've also felt ashamed of sharing my OCs with other people, or just some silly things I do because I was so afraid they would be called cringe, and it sucks when people (esp if they're your friends) won't support your likes or your creations and call it ''cringe'', it makes you self conscious and it makes you want to give up on that thing. That silly thing that brings you happiness. Shortly after I got in the twst fandom I remember how amazed I was that so many people would draw Yuu in their own way, be it different genders, appearences completely out of the ordinary, OCs for each dorms, and I was like ''wait, we can do that?!'' because it's been so long since I've been in a fandom enviroment where OCs and self inserts are widely accepted. I wouldn't have made an OC if I hadn't seen other people doing it too. It made me realize it was ok, that I wouldn't be judged, that I wasn't alone. And I also realized that your OC doesn't need to have a super complex writing for them to be likeable or accepted; not gonna lie, I often don't find many OCs interesting. I also dislike mary sues, and sometimes I've come across some and thought ''this character is too bland'' or ''this could use some work'' but then I realized one very important thing; Not everyone makes their content for clout - some people just want to self-indulge and make content for themselves, and that's ok!

Other content creators literally owe me nothing, and if they want their self insert to be a uwu bean baby and also the strongest magician ever and also loved by all the characters in the school, then they're on their right! I'm also on my right to not find this type of character interesting, so I just keep scrolling. I think everyone has seen at least once a OC who just don't click with their tastes, and there's nothing to do about it. Some things just aren't for everyone.

What's not okay however is being rudely vocal about how you dislike someone's creation; it doesn't matter if the OC looks like it was drawn by a 11-yo in MS paint on early 2000s deviantart, or if the writing it just bland or terrible; it still gives you no right to shit on other people's creations that they're proud of. They're not harming anyone, they just want to have fun, just like everyone else. Not everyone starts off as a great artist or writer, and if they want to get better they need to start off somewhere! You will never grow if you don't dive it in and try, even if it looks terrible at first.

Cringe culture makes so many people self conscious about self-indulging and just doing what makes them happy and honestly its so saddening………. So the solution is, fuck cringe culture. Fuck it, make your self insert, make your favorite characters fall in love with you, make catboys OCs and show them to the world! I swear, once you stop thinking ''what if it's cringe'' and just do whatever you want to do you will feel great. 80% of my content is purely self-indulgent, sometimes I feel insecure as well but most times I think ''nah this is my blog, if somebody is gonna dislike it then that's their problem'' and after starting to think more like this I realized this is the happiest and more comfortable I've been in making content for a fandom in AGES. It's so fulfilling and it brings me immense joy and comfort, even if the fandom unfortunately had become very toxic.

…That was a lot of text sorry 😅 now finally talking about my OC, I'm glad you like her! It struck me how some people say how ''unique'' she is even if she has a generic design 😂 she's got that charm that draws people to her and honestly I wasn't expecting that would happen asdkjdskjjkfsjk Now I don't think it's right for me to say how to not make a OC ''cringe'' because that would make it seem I'm belittling every other OC that doesn't have the same qualities as my OC, and that's not it - every oc is unique in their own way because their creators poured their heart on them. I can however pinpoint the ways on how I build her character uniquely, and (maybe) the reasons why people got attracted to her character; ::A disclaimer first is that none of these traits are definitive qualities in making a good character, this is just my own personal point of view::

Well the first thing I can think of is that when I make characters especially if they're self inserts is that I don't take them too seriously. I don't try too hard into making it seem it's an ACTUAL character from that fictional universe - They don't need any obscure motivation, fantastical habilities or a anime-personality trope, I just want them to be them. Just like you said, I wanted to avoid running into the mary sue archetype, and for that my character NEEDS to have flaws. I allow them to have awkward and embarrassing moments. I allow them to be expressive. Lots of people when creating an OC or a sona uses fiction as reference; fictional characters to base them on, and they're right they should use references; however when using exclusively fictional reference such as anime and cartoon, I don't think you can convey a truly relatable character. It's VERY important to take inspiration from real life too; Use your real life experiences and apply them to your character. How do you feel about a certain thing? How do you act in this certain situation? Or if you don't want to use yourself as reference, maybe use somebody you know or that you've seen - Take inspiration from your experiences and the real world. The character will come off much more natural and human, and that will naturally attract people to them; because they're truly relatable.

The other thing is cartoonish exaggeration - now this applies for my case, but I believe making your character expressive in lots of funny ways is also a certain way to make the character charismatic! For example when I draw Vic I either make her ''normal'' or make her a small squished gremlin 😂 and I didn't expect the chibi Vic to get so popular but ppl love her I guess lol so it's important to have a balance between the ''human and relatable'' side and the ''silly cartoon'' side!

HI!!! This is a really cool ask I just want to start this off with that, I don't get asked this often so I apologize if you asked this weeks back...

SOUL RING is a universe that I curate with different media. It is currently not one complete thing, but a collection of incomplete things that make up a whole series.

That's like the short version of it, but there's way more that I'm going to get into. If you aren't interested you are free to scroll away. Otherwise…

There are a few things that I made for SOUL RING that include:

Original Characters (I use the main protagonists Tanka/Leeds & Kuka as sonas. Not all of their art are compatible with "lore")

Artwork and concepts (I like drawing them)

The card game (titled SOUL SWAP, this one is actually complete and uses the universe as a theme. I may talk about this when prompted)

The "video game" (I am not capable of coding well so they're mostly reduced to concepts. This was the original idea for SOUL RING)

The Original Soundtrack (possibly the largest contribution spanning for as long as SOUL RING has been around. They're meant to pair with the video game mentioned earlier)

There isn't an archive of all the stuff made for this series but I would like to post things under the #SOUL RING tag over here on my tumblr page.
