ellie usually sends abby selfies right after she wakes up or while she's literally starting her day, sending her a good morning message. sometimes they're just selfies of her outfit before going skateboarding, and then the aftermath of that... (poor baby)

with abby, it's the same as with ellie (totally in love). she immediately gets in a good mood in the morning when she receives ellie's message and doesn't hesitate to respond, showing how she's getting ready to go to chilton. in the afternoon, she sends pics explaining her absence because she needs to study before she can go out with ellie.

they go out every day without fail, usually taking walks around town, making stops at the library, or simply staying at ellie's house, where abby has the privilege of watching her play the guitar. the day typically ends with them sleeping together, and they wake up the next day to have breakfast.

els hates these photos!!! it seems like abby always manages to capture her at her worst moments (according to ellie), whether she's sleeping, lost in thought, or in a bad mood. but in reality, they always end up being abby's favorite photos and she always denies that ellie looks bad.

he probably has a little nickname for you (and he'll play it off, but whenever you call him 'pretty boy' or something he just melts). he's pretty cheeky so the teasing might get a bit out of hand sometimes. i think he'd be so so interested in talking politics and philosophy with you!! i like to think that tristan's actually really academically smart (and lowkey a ravenclaw like you but chilton screams ravenclaw so maybe im projecting here), he just doesn't use his potential. but i think you could give him a little nudge in the right direction- the art gallery dates and the fact that he's constantly looking over your shoulder at your books helps.

tristan loves making out. like i cannot express enough how much he adores it. so the physical touch love language plays out really well- i think he struggles a bit more with quality time cause he uses a sort of mischevious persona some of the time to hide his genuine qualities. but you'd probably develop some banter, you'd ask him questions and he'd answer (whether he's a good liar or not is up to you), and thats how you'd grow close. he'd also carry your poetry books everywhere and he'd be really sad if your moon phases didnt fit together (like the tiktok trend lmao).

also just the entirety of gilmore girls is so autumn so right away, assuming you lived in stars hollow, tristan would pretend to hate all the autumn events but he'd secretly love them (he probably got lots of attention from ms patty).

idk if you'll like this or not but i genuinely think tristan's a good guy, albeit one with bad boundaries (but he's also like really rich so it kinda makes sense). i really wish rory had gotten a chance to date him in the show tbh, he had so much potential.

Random worldbuilding stuff

De figuris Veneris, Chapters 1-5

Chilton had a fiancee in Hannibal named Inelle. I love the character of Chilton and the thought of him having an ex-wife is funny to me. She definitely left him when she figured out he was gay.

The NYT plum torte recipe was famous in the 80s.

Freddie Lounds is a combination of Philip Seymour Hoffman's 2002 portrayal, the comically evil Mason Verger, and maybe a little Bunny from The Secret History. I love Chorostecki's version as well, but it didn't fit this story.

All articles and books included in the story are real and dated prior to 1983.

Psychology's understanding of empathy was limited in 1983. Mirror neurons were not discovered until the 90s. Hogan's Empathy Scale has been proven ineffective due to self-reporting bias but also includes some dubious questions such as "I prefer a shower to a tub bath," "I think I would like to belong to a singing club," and "I like to talk about sex." Incidentally, Robert Hogan taught at the Johns Hopkins Department of Psychology from 1967-1982. Heimlich's retirement soiree was partly inspired by him, as well as the Harvard criminal psychologist Will mentions in Red Dragon.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra performed Brahms's Quartet in G along with Bach's Toccata and Fugue and Beethoven's Piano Con. #5 in September 1983 (Source). As a Bachian, Hannibal would have been more excited for the Toccata and Fugue, but it's only 10 minutes long and I only wanted to mention one composer.

I chose to have Hannibal live in Fell's Point instead of the fictional Chandler Square or the real Mount Vernon Square because I couldn't resist referencing Dr. Fell. I think it's rare for Fell's Point townhouses to have garages, but one was necessary for Hannibal's lifestyle. I took his floor plan from a real townhouse in the neighborhood that was most likely renovated within the last few years. Fell's Point has an interesting canning and shipbuilding history. It was just starting to become gentrified in the early 80s.

To me, De figuris Veneris (publicly available) represents academia's simultaneous fascination with and revulsion toward the erotic, especially in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Will and Hannibal pretend to themselves that they are more rational than the characters in The Metamorphoses (which also used to be considered a naughty book). They are so sexually repressed, I wanted them to act as if they received their entire sexual education from this "manual."

Will reads Gregory Horace's translation of The Metamorphoses. Published in 1958, it was the most recent translation available at the time and is now publicly available on the Internet Archive.

The Walters Art Gallery became the Walters Art Museum in 2000. I've never been, but if I was the art director I would display all their Italian bronze statuettes in the same room, including their Hercules and the Dragon Ladon.

When Hannibal stabbed Uncle Jack in the neck he tested his restraint because his instincts yelled at him to pull the knife out while his intelligence told him to leave it right where it was, we see that Jack passes this 'test' cause he survives

on the other hand when Hannibal impulsively stabs Sogliato in the head with an icepick we see Hannibal basically testing Bedelia the same way, only that she does pull out the icepick, panicked and letting her instincts triumph over the rational side of her brain

Hey! I’m doing okay, thanks for the ask! I shall ✨ramble✨

I just finished watching season 3 a few days ago, but I plan on doing a rewatch sometime this week. The problem is I watched it without subtitles and there were times when I had absolutely no idea what they (Hannibal) were saying. I also skipped a bit in the beginning of the third season because I missed Will🤧😔

Like, I watched most of Hannibal, but I need to do a proper rewatch with a different perspective.

Please note there are definitely things/details I missed during my first watch, and I’m not 100% sure I’m interpreting things correctly! Tho I’ve been obsessively reading theories and watching cast interviews.

Anyways, here are my random, incoherent thoughts!

First off, I loved Hannibal (the show). It has consumed my mind and it’s all I’ve thought about for the past week. This infatuation has absolutely nothing to do with how puppy-like Will Graham is. This was also the very first time I’ve binged an entire series and I’m excited to do it again! There were some scenes that were difficult to watch ~ playing cello with vocal cords, Mason cutting his face, Dolarhyde tearing Chilton’s lips off, and other scenes that were too graphic for my taste. At least now I know which parts to quickly skip!

I don’t think I currently have a favourite episode because they’re all kinda jumbled together in my mind, but I might have one after my rewatch!

Honestly I was a teeny bit bored when I first started watching and considered not continuing because it had a slower start/build up. But once the pace rlly started to pick up, I was obsessed.

I literally can’t tell you the amount of times I wanted to scream at Hannibal too omfg.

I loved the second season because I was constantly on the edge of my seat waiting for someone other than Will to figure out Hannibal’s murdery side.

I thought Jack didn’t believe Will’s claims that Hannibal was, well, a cannibal, but apparently he did? And he willingly went to Hannibal’s place to eat people meat??? Unless that was before he knew or maybe he wanted to keep his cover but he also didn’t hesitate to eat? lmao someone explain.

I was hoping Beverly called someone before going to Hannibal’s place alone. . someone who wasn’t locked up in psychiatric hospital for murder. But she didn’t😭 (I think she told him she was gonna investigate?)

I originally thought Hannibal was a dick for sending Randall after Will and forcing him to kill someone in “self defense”, but I recently read that Randall could be seen as a gift for Will? Because Hannibal stopped Will from killing that guy at the farm and Will said the only thing he regretted was not killing him. So is Hannibal providing Randall as a kill opportunity since he previously took that chance away from Will?? Or did he just want to push Will to become murdery. Like?

I watched the clip of Hannibal stabbing Will at the end of season 2 a ton of times before I started the series, and watching that scene after knowing the context behind it hurt sooo much more. I didn’t know the details and only knew Will betrayed Hannibal. So I may have sobbed at the fact that Will called Hannibal to warn him🤧

“My freedom then, you would take that from me.” Sir did u not take away Will’s freedom and frame him for murder eye-

I wasn’t expecting Jack and Alana to be there too and it was a fricken bloodbath. AND HANNIBAL TOOK WILL’S JACKET OFF OF ALANA’S COLD AND DYING BODY AND PUT IT ON HIMSELF? EXCUSE ME? SIR? HELLO??

As I mentioned earlier, I skipped throughout the beginning of the third season because I missed Will’s cute face, and I had no idea what anyone was saying. But everything picked up again once Hannibal and Will reunited at the gallery🥺 the smile they give each other hurt my heart so bad.

“If I saw you every day, forever, Will, I would remember this time.” I’m okay, I’m fine. 🥲

Going into this show, I knew most of the major cliffhangers from watching clips on YouTube. But the thing that really caught me off guard were the time jumps (which made sense tho!) and the fact that WILL HAD A WIFE AND KID!!! I guess he wanted a sense of normalcy to pretend everything was okay and maybe he did love them but I don’t think he was truly happy? Idk seeing Will interact with them felt awkward to me, esp at the hospital. Unless I’m reading into it wrong. Molly and Walter are gonna wake up one day and find out that Will had ditched/disappeared with a cannibalistic serial killer😭 I felt bad for them but I’m also not attached to either of them at all😭

I felt like I ruined the show for myself by looking at every possible spoiler I found online:’) like before starting the series, I knew Hannibal and Will were gonna kill someone and fall off a cliff together at the end, I knew about the end credit scene with Bedelia implying they survived the fall, I knew Hannibal stabbed Will because he felt betrayed, I knew Hannibal would hide something from Will to convince him he was losing his mind and would frame him for murder, I knew Hannibal would purposely give himself up and eventually escape. . . yea u get my point.

But I still loved it so so much🥺

And omfg I watched compilations of Hannibal’s cooking on YouTube, and I thought it was subtly implied that he was cooking people meat. But in the show it’s like “this victim is missing a pair of lungs” and it immediately cuts to Hannibal chopping up said lung on a cutting board😭 All the cooking scenes I saw on YouTube included precut meat, and I screamed when he chopped a whole arm in his kitchen SIR PLEASEE-

Oh! I recently read a Reddit thread on The Evolution of Will Graham’s Darkness and it’s definitely an interesting read!

I really do love the show even if there were times when I wanted to throw my laptop across the room! But I love it. A lot!

And gosh the finale.. I loved it. It really was beautiful.

In conclusion, I love Hannibal (the show), my thoughts are scrambly, and I desperately need a rewatch.

Brief//Music Response

Whenever I think of iconic album covers, Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ immediately springs to mind and its one of favourites.   The design was inspired by a photograph of a prism with a colour beam projected through it - so simple yet completely enticing, no wonder its been hailed as one of the greatest album covers of all time.

The Dark Side of the Moon design is a product of the visionary creative team of Aubrey Powell and Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis, who are responsible for creating some of rock’s most memorable album covers.

Hipgnosis – a term mixing “hip” with “gnosis” (meaning “mystic thought”) – was coined by Pink Floyd’s Syd Barrett for the design pairing when the band asked them to design the cover for their 1968 album, A Saucerful Of Secrets. In the following decade, the company became pre-eminent among the most forward-thinking album covers designers in the world.

Hipgnosis went on to produce nearly 200 covers, some of which were the most radical album sleeves in music history, including Black Sabbath’s escalator robots (for Technical Ecstasy) and Peter Gabriel’s melted grilled-cheese face (for his self-titled 1980 solo album)
