Violent kingpins pop up occasionally when you look for yanderes. Most of them are not good. I understand that the romance genre has its limits, but I hate "cute" gangster guys. If you're going to do a romance that involves a kingpin, be honest. Add the evil. Add the blood. This author does it right and their work is available for free on Canvas.

Ms. Clover is a singer in a shitty establishment. She's the star there. She is known as a sexual, promiscuous tease. Everybody knows she's a beast in the bedroom, but behind the curtain she rejects her horny fans. In fact, she thinks all of the lusty lovers at her door are losers that can't take "no" for an answer. She's tired of dealing with pushy men (and women).

Her sexy persona makes money, so she has to roll with it. The Kingpin comes to watch her show, and he immediately dumps his girlfriend after he sees her up close. She is exactly what he wants. Ok. Here is my major problem with this story. It's great. The art has a dark feel and its also pretty at the same time. It's all about POC characters and that's a nice change of pace. Kingpin is incredibly unique compared to most of the yanderes I know.

But!

I'm sorry but there is a big but.

The dialogue is sometimes cringe. I'm sorry! Most of the time it is also good but a couple of the scenes with Clover and Kingpin are boring. If you don't know what purple prose is google it. I can tell that they're supposed to be flirting but it sounds unnatural. You will notice these scenes if you read this, but the rest of the experience is fantastic. They are still believable as a couple. The tension is palatable. Clover tries to hold back in the beginning because she knows who he is, but she likes what she sees.

Kingpin pretends to be a gentleman. He investigated Clover. He knows what she wants. She wants a real man that knows how to romance a woman. She isn't a silly girl that can be won over by cash. She expects commitment and respect. Kingpin does respect her...too much. He murders everyone who saw her sing the night he fell in love with her. He did it out of pure jealousy. His employees are actually surprised when he doesn't demand another massacre.

He's only cool and sauve on the outside. This is how he sees people who are beneath him. He looks down on drug addicts. He kills people who piss him off, and he thinks he's superior to other men. His ego is huge, but he's smart enough to hide that from Clover. He shows her his good side. The mass murder was a one time thing. He doesn't order his men to kill her fans again. He holds back because he doesn't want the trail of blood behind him to get too long.

Clover leads a hard life. She's got roomates. Singing is the only profitable job she can get. Her life isn't glamorous off stage. Some of the Kingpins minions don't think she's good enough for him. He shuts them up of course, but there's a huge power imbalance between them. If Clover doesn't fall for Kingpins lies I'm afraid that he'll kidnap her.

His act is working. He knows how to cover his tracks. Ronnie is Clovers manager. He dies after he grabs her. Why was he grabbing her? He was trying to force her to work on her day off. That was the norm for her, but now she has the Kingpins protection. I'm pretty sure he doesn't want her to be a singer anymore. He's trying to lure her into the coveted, dangerous spoiled girlfriend position. I think he wants to marry her, but he did drop his last girlfriend like she was hot garbage when he was done with her. I don't trust the Kingpin, and we don't know why he's so obsessed with her yet. Sure, she's beautiful but is that all it takes? Does the Kingpin tear up the city every time he sees a pretty woman? We're not that deep into the story, but I hope he's yandere and crazy, not just crazy.

He is a good manipulator. He buys a yacht and he takes Clover out on an extravagant first date. There's a piano, a chef, and a chandelier. It's tempting, but the Kingpins men are clearly all terrified of him. Local business owners sweat buckets when he enters. He's a renowned fighter and he's good with a gun. He's also rich enough to bribe anyone. Clover knows about his reputation, but his goody goody act is so convincing.

He gives her a necklace that matches her outfit. He makes oatmeal for her, but he fails, because he can't cook. He acts goofy around her sometimes, and he's handsome. I agree but small warning. This author draws faces really well, but his muscles are too big. I'm sorry! He looks like he can't even sit down. If you're into muscles you'll love that, but yeah. Fair warning.

They have sex. Clover is interested in being his girlfriend. Kingpins servants start following her around. He turns up the charm even more. She doesn't know that men have died for the crime of looking at her. Her shitty manager is dead, so she doesn't have a job, and she doesn't know that either. I hope this gets really dramatic.

My father was martyred by Israel on 10 October 2023 after sacrificing his care in hospital so the injured children could take priority. Today would have been his 60th birthday. He was always selfless, kind, and giving for others. My father gave up everything for me to be able to have a better life, because that is what he always dreamed for me and my sister. The world suffered a great loss when he died, and my heart is always with him and every Palestinian who has lost someone.

In his honour and memory, I would love for anyone who is able to do so to consider donating to The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

The PCRF is an amazing organisation that does so much for those in Gaza right now, including helping provide food, water and medicine. You can donate any amount you are able to- there is no minimum! My father would have given his very last cent if he saw the way Palestine was continuing to suffer after over 100 days with this limited aid, so I know celebrating him by helping others is the least he would have wanted.

The people who came before you didn't put in all that work for nothing, and you aren't, either. You can't save it all for the Ultimate Victory because there is never going to be an Ultimate Victory.
