saw a poll about whether you prefer corruption or redemption arcs and i realized that for me it's not really either, it's a distillation arc: when a character becomes the most intense version of what they could be, everything inessential falling away or being discarded so that only the core remains.

❝ Be my victim, ❞ he said.
❝ No, ❞ she murmured.
❝ I won’t force it upon you, ❞ he replied, the perfect gentleman. ❝ I won’t oblige you to die, but think, think; I kill you here – if I unhook you, ❞ he traced the path of the promised wound with his hook, it ran from groin to neck.
❝ Think how they would mark this place with their talk, point it out as they passed by and say: ‘She died there; the woman with the green eyes.’ Your death would be a parable to frighten children with. ❞

me when I find a fic about my blorbo that is extremely well written it feels like it’s a gift from god with the perfect amount of angst, whump, hurt/comfort, fluff and is so in character that I can hear each dialogue in the blorbo’s voice and I’m so addicted to it I can’t believe I didn’t find it sooner it is currently the only thing I’m looking forward to even if I literally have to pause for a moment to catch my breath, grab a pillow and scream into it every time I’m reading a scene that plays with my feelings but in the best way imaginable I feel like I’ve stumbled upon a hidden treasure I can’t believe I get to read it for free I want to kiss the author on the lips and express to them my undying gratitude. like HOW ARE YOU SO TALENTED AND YOU ALSO WRITE ABOUT MY BLORBO AND I CAN READ IT FOR FREE??

excuse my laughing like a deranged villain. this is how I express my eternal love and gratitude

Hello. Not sure if this was asked yet, but do you have any advice on how to write enemies to friends, then friends to lovers, considering there was romantic tension between them before when they were enemies? Thank you very much in advance!
The enemies to lovers trope is a beloved narrative device, especially in the romance genre. As a creative writer looking to explore this trope, there are key elements and techniques to consider in order to craft a believable and engaging story. Here’s how you can turn animosity into affection and keep your readers hooked.
Understanding the trope
Before diving into writing, it’s important to understand what makes the ‘enemies to lovers’ trope so interesting. It’s a classic plot device where two characters start with a contentious relationship and, through various plot developments, end up falling in love. This trope thrives on tension and the gradual breakdown of barriers, creating a rollercoaster of emotions for both the characters and the readers.
What are the key components?
Conflict: The bedrock of this trope is the initial conflict between the characters. It can be rooted in a misunderstanding, ideological differences, or a rivalry.
Chemistry: Despite the conflict, there needs to be an underlying chemistry that hints at the potential for romance.
Character development: The evolution of the characters’ relationship must be believable. Their growth, both individually and together, is crucial to the plot.
Pacing: The shift from enemies to lovers should be gradual and well-paced, avoiding any rush that could undermine the build-up of their relationship.
Build authentic tension
When writing ‘enemies to lovers,’ the tension must feel authentic. Readers can easily spot forced conflict or chemistry, so it’s vital to create situations and dialogues that naturally showcase the friction between your characters.
Create obstacles: Design situations that challenge the characters and force them to interact in high-stakes scenarios.
Dialogue: Use snappy, charged dialogue to convey their conflict while also revealing their begrudging respect or fascination for each other.
Inner conflict: Develop the characters’ inner conflicts to add depth to their external quarrels and eventual reconciliation.
Have a strong turning point
The transition from enemies to lovers should feel earned. It often involves a pivotal moment where the characters’ perspectives shift, allowing them to see each other in a new light, becoming friends
Shared experiences: Design scenarios where the characters have to rely on each other, creating a sense of camaraderie.
Vulnerability: Allow the characters to show vulnerability to each other, which can be a powerful catalyst for changing emotions.
Moments of understanding: highlight moments of empathy and insight into each other’s motivations and vulnerabilities.
Foster the romance
Once the groundwork for the characters’ relationship shift has been set, you can focus on fostering the romantic connection.
Mutual respect: As the characters overcome obstacles, their respect for one another should grow, forming the basis for their romantic feelings.
Intimacy: Create instances where the characters share intimate moments or thoughts, further deepening their bond.
New Conflicts: Introduce new conflicts that can only be solved together, cementing their status as a team.
The payoff
The ultimate goal in the ‘enemies to lovers’ trope is to deliver a satisfying payoff that feels both surprising and inevitable. Here are ways to ensure the romance culminates in a fulfilling resolution:
Growth and sacrifice: Show how the characters have grown since the beginning of the story and the sacrifices they are willing to make for each other.
Full circle: Bring their relationship full circle by referencing elements of their initial conflict, now resolved through love and understanding.
Public acknowledgment: Include a scene where the characters acknowledge their feelings for each other in a significant way, often in public or in front of previously opposing forces.

omg .......... what if .........famous ceo jing yuan falling in love with an ordinary reader who is a preschool teacher.... like jing yuan was in distress because he was told that yanqing could not be found within his house so they had to check the surveillance camera in which a footage was playing where yanqing managed to surpass the security and alarms they installed LOL so for the past 30 mins of searching they finally found yanqing ........ on a public school ???? he was soooo confused as to what was his business here as he has his own private tutor at home. jing yuan then got outside the car to fetch his son with some lecture ready at the tip of his tongue only to be swallowed as he was greeted with the sight of you laughing along with yanqing and silverwolf (he found out that they were neighbours with her as both of the children play with their toys on the park within their residence). he was soooo mesmerized with your gentle features and laugh that he forgot the actual problem LOL adn yeah ...... cue this story i suppose 😭
.... sighs....

idk i just think it’s a little weird that almost every character who gets the “innocent baby” / “little ray of sunshine” treatment usually ends up just having neurodivergent traits and actual negative traits in the show that nobody pays attention to. like idk man it just feels like diet infantilization to me and it’s a teeny weeny bit uncomfortable to see all the time

A Whumpee who is so overworked, physically and mentally, that everything hurts. It hurts to walk, it hurts to move, it hurts to think. They are so damn tired they feel like they could drop. They’re working physically over fourteen hours a day, spending at least another five dealing with logistics like paperwork and conferences. It feels they are going to die if they have to take another goddamn step.
And then give them so much shit they have to do, completely unavoidable they genuinely can’t not do it, so the few moments of rest they actually have are completely consumed with thinking about how they only have twenty more minutes before they need to get back to work, they can’t sleep now because that’ll only make things so much worse when they have to wake up in fifteen minutes, they really should be laying down with their last ten minutes of break but hell they should also put together something to eat, and crap there’s not even five minutes left why bother to lie down they just have to get up.
Bonus points if it’s some kind of hero Whumpee and they know that they have to do this all day every day and their only reprieve will be their scheduled weekend off in a month and a half.

a character type i'm really into is the ex-something - exile, obviously, but also anyone who used to have a role that was also an identity and now does not: ex-mage, ex-assassin, ex-monarch --
it's about loss of identity and recreation of identity; it's about how being an ex-something is impossible because the ghost of what you were haunts what you are now; it's about reshaping the way you see the world and yourself in the world.

AU where Franka doesn't get approval for the transfer and instead has to cut and run to Rhodes Island alone. Liskarm just misses finding out and isn't able to follow. and then they reunite some years down the line for whatever reason, Franka happy at Rhodes Island but still a little lonely and Liskarm saying she's fine but being at Blacksteel for so long has made her colder and harsher and just plain miserable.
(it isn't all bad, she at least has Jessica and Vanilla, but they can't get under her skin the way Franka could. Liskarm swears that Franka would get under skin sometimes just to dig out the bad feelings.)
(and Franka has people. she's surrounded by people she cares about. operators cut from the same cloth as her, that will charge headlong into battle beside her. colleagues who will nag her about sleeping and eating and training and mission parameters. friends who will rag on her for her choice of reading material. but Liskarm was all of those things rolled into one. and she is not here)
#(for the purposes of this AU Vanilla and Jessica are with Liskarm at Blacksteel)#Liskarm's squad ending up on the landship for whatever reason#Liskarm seeing Franka out of the corner of her eye and just being knocked for six#their reunion would be an all out battle in an empty training room#other staff hearing about it and trying to intervene like ''what is this Blacksteel person doing to our beloved Franka''#Franka and Liskarm kick the shit out of each other but aren't able to actually talk because too many people watching#Vanilla and Jessica ''oh this is normal. this is normal! it's been 3 years but it's totally normal! don't worry!''#(it's really that trope of ''ex you still care about is doing good and you're miserable'' for Liskarm)#arknights tag#yeah I'll tag it#friskarm#if you ask me if this AU has a sad or happy ending. it has whatever ending you want#I do think Franka and Liskarm's relationship changed when they transferred to Rhodes Island together#because it was a silent admission that their partnership was no longer the result of circumstance#'we've been put together' to 'we're choosing to stick together'#so to lose that aspect of their relationship would be... interesting#also Franka has to slow down for Liskarm. Liskarm is /meant/ to curb Franka's reckless behaviour#so I like the idea that Franka at RI alone is even more reckless because she's not being properly challenged#she gels too well with some operators and it's so easy that it's terrifying#in the sense that combat becomes tunnel vision. which is not a good thing#I wrote more in the tags than the actual post..... this is normal for me

Can we please agree that this shit is not okay to do to an author?
If an author wants their fandom life known, fine, talk about it all you want. Don't out them as a fanfic writer when they clearly don't want to be known as one. And yeah, maybe it shouldn't matter but that doesn't mean that it doesn't matter and that it's your place to decide that for anyone other than yourself.

bells hells jumping straight from getting pretty seriously injured by their hulked-out teammate to proposing buddy systems and calendar tracking?? i love them so much? "we've all got weird stuff!" fearne says, "we talked about this previously, it's fine" orym says. they're just here for it! werewolf transformations and everything! zero angst! yeah our buddy sometimes loses control and wolfs out and attacks us :) it's fine tho we're helping him keep an eye on it and we've got a tracking app. it'd be kinda cool to be a werewolf anyway :)
