i just finished reading your murder mystery au omggg !! i know it’s been a while but i was wondering if you could give the backstory on janu’s scar, since that was something you had to cut from the story?

Absolutely! From what 8 remember the original plot being: Janus got the scar the day he met Virgil. Virgil's parents were shouting about something at Virgil in public (have they found out he's gay? Were they upset he applied to an art school? Were they shouting about him being 'disrespectful'? I can't remember :')) Janus tried to intervene but instead of settling it with words he had earned himself hot coffee to the face from Virgil's mother. And it was personal now.

I do imagine he sewed the hell out of Virgil's mother and befriended Virgil along the way and helped him get away from an abusive family while he was at it.

Gained a son and a scar in one day :D.

I think that Ian (TSS AU) is better be a photographer. You will see the story through his eyes / camera lens. Like what they said: Ghost can be seen through the camera lens, so you guys can see Jack walking beside MC all along.

He is the one who invited MC to this production as an (Actor/Actress), but why you?

-The story I plotted for The Sunny Show AU is…

First there a murder happened in the Sunny Show.

Second a burn down tragedy of Sunny Show in 1984 which Joseph died in that fire, but Joseph/Jack still haunted down this place

Third, Grace’s body has been found in Animatronic suit in the backstage

after that this place has been shut down, but our MC got inherited this place from her mother(Gina) and Aunt(Grace).

so we are the owner of this place too. If Shaun needs to film the story of that tragedy. He needs MC permission first.

3.Nick

His story will focus on solving this mystery with you through the play. MC will discover the truth with him.

He might be the one who ends this mystery too. (If he doesn’t died first). You better saved him for a good ending.

Of all the threads from The Silver Star that got revamped or dropped entirely in Silver Star Story Complete, the one that tugs at my mind the most is Dyne vs the Black Dragon...

Ostensibly, it makes sense it got cut from SSSC... the fight with the Black Dragon was TSS's excuse for Dyne's supposed death/separation from his friends, and SSSC basically covered that with the new "origin of Luna" story.

But, elements of the original Black Dragon conflict remain in SSSC. Specifically, something happened to the Black Dragon... it's still badically as fucked up/undead as it was in TSS, needing to be ressurected before fighting you... but no explanation is really ever given to say why it was dead in the first place.

On the other end of the stick, no explanation was ever given in TSS for what drove the Black Dragon into such a murderous rage that it had to be killed in the first place.

And, in SSSC dropping the Black Dragon's backstory, no new explanation is ever given for why nearly everyone on Lunar thinks Dyne died.

So here's where my headcanon kicks in: there's very little in these two threads that conflict with or contradict each other, and in fact I think the story of Althena's death and the Black Dragon's insanity could compliment each other very nicely if stitched together.

Althena clearly had some kind of divine connection with the dragons, and surely they each felt the dispersal of the Goddess's power when she ended her immortal life to be reborn as a human.

The Red, Blue and White dragons were shocked, but took the event in stride, accepting that the duty of protecting and preserving Lunar now fell to them.

But the Black Dragon, whose domain was death and grief, fell into despair... and went mad. In it's anguish, the Black Dragon began attacking nearby settlements, wild animals, burning anything that lived to ash. Why should anything on Lunar remain alive when the Goddess herself has chosen to die?? Let all of this forsaken moon join her in oblivion!!

Although the dragon's rampage is immensely destructive, in it's chaotic mental state the Black Dragon isn't especially thorough. Survivors of the attacks escape to other parts of Lunar and call for the aid of the four heroes...

Lemia and Mel have both started their own families and taken on the responsibility of running their respective hometowns, and are unable to take up the call to action. All they can do is pass the call along; Lemia to Ghaleon, who has abandoned his priesthood for reasons known only to himself... and Mel to Dyne, who has just returned from a mysterious journey across the sea...

And I've got more story plotted out beyond that, but that's kind of where stitching old and new canons into one cohesive headcanon ends and fanfiction (or fancomics in my case) begins.

But in short, the Black Dragon is killed at the supposed cost of Dyne's life, though the truth remains as complicated as ever.

Jay Ferin character essay but it’s not actually a character essay I just love her a lot want to get my thoughts about her out :3 !!!!!

I think about her a lot. Her motives, her backstory, her characteristics are all so incredible.

Thinking about the fact her trauma isn’t as “visible” as Chip and Gill’s . Thinking about what she had to go through. Her families priority of her training, performance, and success under the family name over her well being. Thinking about her doll ( :[ ). Thinking about the nightmares she had of her family. Thinking about the fact the when she FINALLY saw her own father again, when she could finally wrap up what was supposed to be this “mission” she wasn’t relieved, or happy, she was *terrified* . Thinking about how the only way she really knows how to show her affection is tough love, insults and banter tossed around (also thinking about the fact that even when jay and her friends know it’s only light banter, it sticks sometimes. And leads to situations like ep 81). Thinking about just how much she’s grown. Thinking about how much she cares for her friends. Thinking about all the things she has and would and will do for her crew. Thinking about Jay Ferin.

Side note I feel like we don’t talk about that one but at Grimm’s murder mystery party enough? She got bit by a hot vampire woman and *just rolled with it?* (ba dum tss) but for real. Love Jay Ferin, queer icon girl boss woman slay .

Shit, Actually by Lindy West - I always like breaking up my reading with a fun book. Many times I needed to stifle my own laughter while reading this in bed.

The It Girl by Ruth Ware - Murder mystery with much plot twist. Good.

The Maid by Nita Prose - Murder mystery with not really a plot twist. Fine-ish.

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus - Wry, frustrating, hilarious, compelling. A much needed breath of fresh air after a string of 'okay' books. Devoured this one.

Ok I’m hooked on this au! How did they all die?

Okay So first off, I'm writing a trigger warning here and in the tags to cover my bases.

TW: death/murder, poisoning, seizures, strangulation, implied sexual assault, blood, suicide mention, knife/stabbing/slashing(?), dismemberment, and finally gun/shooting. That should cover it, if anything needs to be added don't be afraid to tell me I don't want to trigger anyone.

The first one to die was Roman, who had a performance on stage and as the curtain rose and the lights turned a spotlight on him, he had an epileptic seizure and died on the ambulance ride to the hospital. The coroner found sodium cyanide in his system, but the hair tested that he'd only been poisoned for maybe a few days to a week at most since it was only at the root. Janus and Virgil found a single ♤ carved into Roman's bed post the morning after. They both swore it wasn't there before.

The next to die was Patton, who was found dead ala Boston Strangler, cardigan tied around his neck in a bow and his body showed signs it was moved post mortem. He was found outside his veterinary clinic inside a dumpster. No DNA was found in or on the body, and his cardigan had no usable skin cells for testing. However in his cardigan was a small paper with a ♤ drawn on it.

Virgil was next, his body seemed as if it was a suicide but there was a few elements that indicated it was staged. First off the blood spatter seemed to indicated that the gash on his neck was facing the door when it was made, however his body was on the complete opposite side of the room, posed as if it had fallen. He was holding the knife which is a tell its staged since before rigor mortis sets in the body relaxes which would have made him let go of it. The knife had a ♤ on it.

Next was Janus, he went missing for about two weeks before a hand was found underneath an interstate overpass. The next day a forearm was found. The day after that the next hand. And so on and so forth. His head was last to be delivered, about 2 weeks after the hand was found, a single ♤ carved into his tongue. They determined that he most likely died of blood loss before they finished cutting him up.

And Logan's death is the most simple, a single shot to the head. Another almost suicide except there was no gun powder on his hands and the entrance wound was on the right. Logan is left handed and the angle would be hard for him to reach. Not only that, but the killer(or killers) decided to leave their trademark by painting the ♤ above his head with his own blood.

22. Choose a favorite character from your story so far.

AHHH, this is SO tough.

I'm tempted to just say all of my main cast (Margot, Lou, Robert, and Sonya). But no.....ahhh!! It's like having to pick your favorite kid! I can't choose, I love them all (for very different reasons)!

They're all very much on their own paths, with very different backstories/personalities, despite the ways they intertwine/influence one another. You need all of them to have a complete story.

But...for right now, I'll say Margot. She's definitely the main character, despite how much I fought it initially. The inciting incident that sparks the rest of TSS happens TO her and a good majority of the story is seeing how this puts everything in motion and affects her/the people around her.

She's a tough character. She's been through a lot (and I put her through a lot more...sorry, Marge) and that greatly influences the choices she makes. I honestly have no clue how she'll be received, tbqh. There's a method to the madness, I promise!

28. If you could reproduce your story in another medium (movie, novel, comic, etc.) what would you choose and why?

Television, 100%!

I went into TSS knowing that I wanted to structure it in the style of tv! TSS utilizes a lot of things popular in tv shows: coloring that follows film color theory to communicate the mood/feeling, season finales that end with big questions unanswered/cliffhangers (pssst, Season One ends on one bc I'm evil👀), multiple povs separate from our main character(s), etc.

Sidenote but hopefully I can break the curse of the first season of a TV show being the best, because I really like Season Two lol

I basically wanted to watch a gritty crime drama about processing different types of trauma...with vampires. And werewolves. So I wrote it, lol. I feel like I can't be the only wants their murder mystery with a dose of supernatural creatures...right? I sure hope so lmao.

Duality in The Beatrice Letters

Beatrice Letters was precisely designed to present several possible interpretations.

Unfortunately, the tendency of some fans to accept the most obvious interpretation as the only possible interpretation has overshadowed the beauty of the work for many people. The best known case of this is the question of whether the Baudelaires died shortly after leaving the island or not. For a long time, I argued that the only possible interpretation for what is written in TBL is that the Baudelaires survived long after leaving the island, as Beatrice claims that she remembers Sunny on a radio show. However, Dante showed me that there is another way to interpret this: the fact that Beatrice Jr may be mistaken. I have to admit that I really like this type of argument, because that is exactly what I say (now) about Beatrice's death. Assuming this possibility, we are saying that Daniel Handler planned the existence of characters who are mistaken about facts in ASOUE.

Thus, we cannot fully rely on Lemony Snicket's claim in some books about Beatrice's death for the simple fact that Lemony may be mistaken about her death. (Similarly, we cannot rely on the Baudelaires' survival on the island, because Beatrice Jr may be mistaken about this).

And as I have previously published, Daniel Handler left tips that indicate that Beatrice may have survived the fire at her home, and that he decided that Beatrice survived at some point between the publication of TAA and TPP. These tips were left in LSTUA and the Snicket File. 

I also believe that in TSS, Daniel Handler used a resource used by Agatha Christie in her books: disappointment about a prime suspect due to forged clues or coincidences, so that in the end Agatha would reveal to the reader that the prime suspect was really the murder . It would be a very specific type of Red Haring. I'm going to call this feature "Smoke Cloud". From my point of view, Quigley's TSS revelation is a well-planned Smoke Cloud, made to hide the revelation (which was already becoming very obvious since the publication of LSTUA) that Beatrice had survived her house fire. We found evidence that Quigley's revelation was a Smoke Cloud when we realized that Daniel Handler was keen to point out that Olaf was surprised to find that Quigley was alive after Olaf had read the Snicket File. If Daniel Handler's intention was to confirm that the fire survivor named in the Snicket File was Quigley, this scene would not make sense.

As Hermes and Dante explained, perhaps that was left as it was so that some plot change or new ideas were possible in the next books. I remember this feature being used at the end of the second season of Prision Break, where a scene is shown in which a major character is being taken inside a truck surrounded by police, and then a group of armed men assault the truck and the camera shows them shooting. But the camera angle does not show whether they shot the prisoner or the police. Evidently, it was recorded that way, so that both realities could be used in a possible future season. I will call this feature "Flexible Roadmaps". The use of "Flexible Roadmaps" allows the author to write a story without knowing exactly all the details of the sequel. The existence of an intensional Flexible Roadmap in ASOUE is the fact that the bodies of Beatrice and Bertrand have never been described as being found by anyone. Someone (Dante) can argue that describing the bodies of the parents of the main characters would be too shocking for readers who are children (and I agree). But not even a funeral? Furthermore, in LSTUA it was clear that Daniel Handler resorted to this aspect of the Flexible Roadmap by stating that the bodies of the Baudelaires' parents were not buried in two of the places where photos are displayed. The Flexible Roadmap exists due to the fact that the reality in which the bodies turned to ash and the reality that they survived co-exist at the same time.

And then we come to the end of TPP full of Flexible Roadmap spread throughout the work. A conventional author would choose some of the possibilities of his Flexible Roadmaps and present them to the reader. But I think we all agree that Daniel Handler is not a conventional author. Instead of clarifying the truth about Beatrice's survival or not, he publishes TBL and then TE. I think we all agree that at least TBL and TE were written together. It is important to understand that one of the goals of TBL is to leave some of the Flexible Roadmaps open.

I disagree with the statement that all the mysteries contained in TBL have been solved, because I see evidence that the mysteries contained in TBL were not created to be solved, but to be identified.

To refuse the existence of these unsolved mysteries is actually to overlook the hidden beauty that TBL possesses. I will try to publish some texts indicating the existence of these mysteries, and of course I know that solutions to these mysteries have been proposed over the years. But none of these solutions are really definitive, because TBL was designed to be a great anagram. Just as you can form multiple words from a set of letters, and each word will have a different meaning, TBL was designed to be understood in different ways depending on the premises adopted by the reader when reading each letter.

My entry for Shipwrecked Comedy's Headless Series Fic contest. I've always loved the Socially Awkward Poe video where Edgar and Lenore try to write out the invitation to announce the series. So I figure I'd give it a bit of a twist for Shipwrecked's latest project. I'm posting it here below but I've also uploaded it to my ao3 page.

Summary: Ichabod Crane is new in town (cue John Mulaney voice) and decides he wants to throw some sort of social gathering so he can get to know people that aren't his roommate, the infamous Headless Horseman.

Note: I have no clue how the Shipwrecked gang is actually going to be doing this aspect but it's my Headless headcanon (badum tss) that the Headless Horseman can't actually talk unless he has a head and therefore makes use of AAC (alternative/augmentative communication) in order to communicate with others. The speech language pathology student in me couldn't pass up this opportunity especially since we don't really get to see that kind of thing much in media.

Ichabod Crane’s game night VIP barbecue picnic for neighbors luncheon

Ichabod Crane had arrived in the quaint town of Sleepy Hollow only a few days ago. He was to begin as a science teacher at the highschool in a few weeks. Until then, he hoped to make some connections and possibly friendships with the townsfolk. As of yet this had not proved very successful, his only real connection beyond the most basic of acquaintances was his new roommate.

For lack of a better idea Ichabod decided that he could throw some sort of social gathering for the whole town in hopes of getting to better know the residents of Sleepy Hollow. Well okay, maybe one resident in particular more than others.

Ichabod settled himself at the kitchen table and opened up his laptop. He opened up a blank word document to start writing an invite.

"Greetings fellow Sleepy Hollow citizens...wait no… Sleepy Hollow folk...Sleepy Hollowans?" Ichabod muttered to himself as he typed away, erasing and composing increasingly worse attempts at a greeting.

"Oh my God you've been writing the first sentence for the past 15 minutes please for the love of everything unholy just move on."

Ichabod jumped at the sound of his roommate's voice coming from the living room. Well, not exactly his actual voice. Being the Headless Horseman, his roommate didn't exactly have a mouth to speak with. Instead he used the text to speech function on his phone or a specialized app to communicate verbally when he needed to. Ichabod still didn't understand how his roommate could hear him since he obviously also didn't have ears but he'd learned to stop asking questions. Despite being a man of science he had decided to let it go lest he go insane at the anatomical implications involved in his roommate's literal lack of a head.

"Sorry, I hadn't even realized you were here," Ichabod said, feeling rather flustered.

"Well I was trying to have a nap but who could with you yammering away forever," the Headless Horseman, or HH as Ichabod had started calling him, replied, audibly annoyed. "What are you even going on about anyway?"

"Oh, I'm trying to write up an invite for a party," Ichabod answered.

"You? Throw a party?" HH responded, followed by some sort of odd wheezing sound that might have possibly been a laugh.

“Well maybe not a party,” Ichabod conceded, though he didn’t appreciate his roommate’s tone. “I was thinking maybe more along the lines of a picnic. I hear the weather is supposed to be nice this weekend.”

“The weather is never nice in Sleepy Hollow,” HH stated. “And I hate to break it to you but the only place nice enough for that in this town is the cemetery.”

“A barbecue then?” Ichabod asked, scrambling for different ideas.

“You and what barbecue?” HH retorted. “Besides I wouldn’t trust you near an open flame.”

“Excuse you but I’m a science teacher!” Ichabod exclaimed, as if this explained everything. “I’ve used a Bunsen burner countless times. I can’t imagine it would be very different.”

“That still doesn’t change the fact that we don’t own a barbecue,” HH reminded him.

The exchange went on for some time, Ichabod throwing out every possible type of social gathering he could think of, only for his roommate to shoot down every single one categorically.

“Well what about a game night? Or maybe even a murder mystery dinner party?” Ichabod said, seriously starting to run out of ideas.

“Dude no that’s totally lame. And before you say it, no Gatsby themed party either this isn’t a film noir or whatever,” HH added, finally coming into the kitchen and sitting down at the table across from Ichabod.

“Ugh you are absolutely impossible!” Ichabod cried out, thoroughly frustrated.

“Why are you even bothering making such a big deal over organizing something?” HH asked. “There’s already the annual bowling tournament that’s happening on Saturday.”

“Are you… are you kidding me right now,” Ichabod squeaked out, suddenly feeling his frustration reach a boiling point.

“Yeah the whole town is gonna be there,” HH explained, completely oblivious to Ichabod’s indignation. “Come to think of it, it's the perfect opportunity for you to properly meet everyone.”

“If you had a neck I swear I’d be strangling you right now,” Ichabod grumbled, slamming his laptop shut and storming off to his room.

Great, another new crazy person, just what this town needs, the Headless Horseman thought to himself before going back to the living room to continue his nap.

My Inferno Girl: Zia Rookey

Zia Rookey was an art student and died with 25 years only half a year ago after she came home from a LARP festival. She's still a fledgeling when it comes to her time in the Netherworld and there is a lot she doesn't know yet. Still, she tries to cope and get by, which is why she eventually found herself on the steps of Dante's Inferno Room, asking for a job. Again. And again. After lots of begging, she assumed the role of the bartender (despite initially winging every single cocktail she mixes. She also lost count of all the glasses she broke so far). Zia helps clean the place as well, in exchange for a sleeping area to call her own on the top floor. She greatly prefers the single room over the house she's still bound to for a few more centuries. Not once has she explained why, and luckily, people generally don't pry in the Netherworld.

She's not a dancer, but she uses a Stage Name nonetheless, never revealing her true identity. While the Inferno Girls and the Madame call her "Jinx" because of her clumsy attitude and ability to wreak havoc within mere seconds, she tends to pick random names each time a customer asks. She'll just look at what's around her and improvise accordingly. Fawks, Button or Red Velvet are just a few examples of names customers use when conversing with her.

The cause of her death is no secret - she bled to death because of an abdominal stab wound. How it happened, though, is a mystery. Every time someone asks, Zia changes the story, but it always ends with her being clumsy and killing herself in a stupid accident. She always jokes how she technically should've become a Case Worker, but the way she died was so embarrassing and ridiculous, they couldn't stomach (Ba dum tss) having her among them and made an exception for her. The truth that she's been killed by her abusive boyfriend is only known by her Case Worker, and their pledge of secrecy keeps them from spreading the word. Zia is very much in denial about her passing, and joking or lying is her way to cope. Other than that she has a cheeky, sometimes sarcastic attitude, but overall she's friendly to everyone who treats her with respect and as an equal, despite her inexperience in the Land of the Dead. She loves to make people laugh and forget their worries for at least a little bit. If you need someone to cause lighthearted trouble and play pranks, she's your gal. She ain't no snitch and will never reveal a secret someone entrusted her with.

The fact that she's a murder victim cause her to be triggered by people who think everything happens for a reason, or that things are just meant to be a certain way. She will not get along with them and will leave the room instead of staying in their presence. She also has difficulties being in the proximity of murderers. 

Her regular clothing style as a bartender is nothing extravagant (red, green or purple blouse, black vest, short skirt and Dr. Martens boots that fit the colour of her shirt) and she rarely alters her appearance. Never change a running system. When she's alone in her room she prefers baggy clothes, loving to wear shorts and shirts too large for her size. She feels safe in them. Especially if they’ve got silly or nerdy prints on them. She is absolutely fine with wearing clothes that reveal her neck, back, arms or legs, but she will never wear anything that would show her stomach. She guards and hides the scar on her front vigorously. She swears that nobody will ever see her completely naked. The damaged pearl in her hair is something she only takes off to shower or sleep. 

She has always been very pale, and while she should be deathly white now, she makes it a habit of changing her skin tone to something more lively while working. She keeps up the charade until she’s alone in her room. When she thinks nobody’s watching, she often practices her shapeshifting abilities. She likes to grow sharp fangs and admire them in the mirror, the involuntary drooling, however, keeps her from displaying them while on the job.

She doesn't quite know what to make of Keatlejuice. He only ever approaches her for booze and never showed any real interest in small talk or even deeper conversations, which is fine by her, as she thinks he's a little creepy. She sometimes watches him leave with Inferno Girls to the private booths, but isn't jealous in any shape or form. They acknowledge each other. From a distance. That's enough for now.

Musicaljuice is entirely different. They love to talk until it's time to close up and she will draw funny faces for him on napkins and exchange puns while mixing his favourite drinks. She knows deep down there's a good core inside of him and she wants him to succeed in finding happiness, never realising that she might play a part in that. He eventually finds out her last name and will never stop calling her Rookie because of her inexperience about the whole being dead thing. She plays pranks on him nearly every time he's there and it's her personal highlight to aggravate him.

No matter the AU (if she’s alive or dead), she will eventually fall in love with Musicaljuice (preferably Bright!Juice), but she’s adamant on keeping it a secret.
