A dumb lil headcanon I have is that Yamato was assigned Naruto’s legal guardian in shippuden. (And that before it was Hiruizen, then Kakashi, then Jiraiya) just for convenience because he’s watching over Naruto all the time anyways.

oh god. sorry my response got really long but the fact is anyone even breathes a word of yamato being fatherly to naruto and i lose my shit and start beating my fist against the earth sobbing and shaking and etc.

now TO BE FAIR. i think if anyone should be naruto's legal guardian it should probably be iruka because iruka was the one who took care of naruto when naruto needed it most, and canonically naruto thinks of iruka as a father figure so much that he like, asks him to act as his father at his wedding, and he has this whole moment as a kid

THAT SAID. i like ur ask, and when it comes to the idea of legal responsibilities, i find the idea of Yamato being granted (even temporary) guardianship over Naruto to be extremely funny and entertaining.

i think yamato would personally take a lot of pride in that and really enjoy it. i think he would love nothing more than to have a practical, obligatory tie to enable him in his desire to take care of the people he loves. i also think that he would be obnoxious about it, at least a little bit. partially because his sense of humor is a little weird, and partially because he has no idea how to act as a guardian figure.

like i think he'd say shit like "bedtime! that's an order!" and naruto would be like "oh, piss off!" and then yamato would use his scary face and naruto would get even more frustrated, and the whole time yamato would be like "wow, naruto is a great kid (if a little disobedient!) and this is such a fun game we are playing, even if it tires me out :)"

unfortunately i think, out of all the guardian/mentor figures that naruto has had, (sandaime, iruka, kakashi, jiraiya, tsunade, those elderly frogs, yamato...) i think yamato is the one he is least close with, and would least like to be a permanent fixture in his life.

i'm not saying that he doesn't like yamato, just that...i would be really surprised if there's a point after yamato gets captured, where naruto is like "man, we should really save yamato!" y'know?

i could be wrong! i haven't gotten there yet. but like. i'm not anticipating it. thats okay tho i love naruto and hes got a lot going on.

I'm so sorry for such a random q and u don't have to answer this but do u have any tips for writing college essays? Ive been putting it off for a while now bc all of the prompts r so vague 😭 (how am I supposed to have a defining moment I'm SEVENTEEN 😢)

disclaimers first tho. 1) it's been a while, and topics wise our prompts are probably pretty different 2) the school i ended up going to, i was very confident admission was almost guaranteed (though, it was not the only school i write an essay for)

my common app essay (i think) prompt basically asked how my environment shaped me as a person. i think generally you should approach writing a college essay the same way you should build any academic paper.

break down the prompt

college essay prompts can be vague bc they're just.. really open for you to write about things. but take a bit of time, sit down and look at the different aspects of the prompt - what is it asking, what topics does the prompt cover, and what is the main question they are asking?

generally, imo, college app essays are a way for admissions to understand who you are as a person, outside of other admission requirements like test scores or academic standing. so ultimately you want to consider what the prompt is and how you can use it to describe yourself. i know this is vague and tricky, but do your best at this part.

2. figure out what you want to say, and outline it

i swear by essay outlines. even 5 minutes of organizing thoughts will make a stronger, more coherent essay. and boy did i used to write a lot of essays. starting broad and then honing in might be helpful. it's also cool if you just generate lots of ideas, more than you need - you can always cut things down later.

since this is a little easier for me to talk about, one of the essays i wrote was about an artist that "changed my life." i picked my artist, then worked my way thru why him and his work were important to me - his style, and his background as a person/artist were the two main points that i wanted to focus on. from there, further - describing his work, what it was and what it did, how it impacted me, how it influenced my work, etc etc.

for the record, for this essay my outline looked like this: (not the full outline)

i can't say i recommend writing college essay outlines like this, BUT your outline is important in that: it makes sense to you and it serves its function as a structure for you to build an essay on.

also, outline is where you do the brunt of the work. ok the above one isn't a great example, but by the time you organize the thoughts and points you want to bring up, it should be detailed enough that it's easy .. you just take your outline and transform it into actual sentences.

the environment essay is a bit too personal, but ill share an edited version of it that gets the point across

family relationships (how it shaped me)

a. my parents values, high expectations

i. explanation

b. how my relationship with my parents changed over time

i. explanation

3. write da essay

personally i start drafting sentences in the outline, or figuring out specific wordage, so it's easier transitioning btwn outline and essay. keywords, specific points, all of it goes in. write first, edit later.

ultimately, i think the essay should have some sort of "story" progression - some sort of change, or a cause and effect. from the beginning of the essay to the end, u should feel like uve expressed urself in a way that i think, shows what u value and how u have grown, and ur capacity for growth. or something.

other

get feedback. even from one person have em read it, tell u what they think - specific feedback is better, so ask specific questions depending on what u think u need

read other people's essays, but don't get too caught up in it. i don't think every college essay has to be particularly Deep or a big metaphor. if there's an experience for you to write about that you at the bare minimum give one fuck about, do that.

if ur reading other people's essays i would look for essays that ppl have written for the school(s) you're applying to, and if you know anyone personally > papers that are for a big shot school or for programs that aren't as relevant to you (i.e. focusing an ivy league paper if you're not applying to one, or whatever) - not to say don't read them at all, but the closer the better you have an idea of the standards and successes for the school YOU want to get into

what you write about doesn't have to be a "big" thing, it just has to be somewhat personal.

idk don't worry about it too much. put effort in, try, but don't spend more time on it than u feel is necessary. remember, it doesn't have to be the best essay someone in admissions has read (though great if it is!) you're looking for enough that they're like "yea, u seem cool, put em in college"

college essays are kind of gross and it's always weird to write abt urself and feel like ur saying things u never would. it's ok. sit down, put something on paper, work your way from there.

esteemed tag readers, this is what i was alluding to last post. making a full-on original character again after however many years and personally i think ive made some major artistic strides these past few months, including while i was drawing him, that helped these feel fulfilling to work on (though also the fact that i was struggling with sleep at the time probably was a factor). havent really settled on a name yet, but his concept is "cursed werewolf except the curse is something else". i decided the "something else" was fire and his goal is, by some means or another, to rid himself of it

Oh God I don't know if this will read as coherent because my thoughts about Showtime are all over the place. But I'll try to format this the best I can

✨Showtime HCs! ✨

Their relationship starts when they start spending time together.

(The reason why they do so could vary. In Supervised Machine Learning's case, Pomni becomes something of a "tutor" to Caine; They discover that they work well together, and the other's company can be quite pleasant!).

So Pomni and Caine build a weird, but comforting friendship, and all is well.

Then the feelings appear.

Caine is the first to realize he fell in love.

It sounds illogical but hear me out… it'd be really funny--

Ok no seriously I think Caine can actually feel. Keyword "can". He's very much still a machine and it shows in the pilot. But like his inspiration (AM), Caine is also a rogue AI. Whatever his programming originally intended him to do, he probably doesn't follow it as closely now as back when he was created (which is a whole other post).

Caine knows what love is and the extend it can go, since the Moon is so open about her feelings. He just doesn't like the Moon back specifically haha (sorry Moon) :}

All this to say, I do believe this is within the realm of possibility for him. (Not that it's ever gonna happen towards anyone in the show. These are just wishful shippy thoughts).

He might not recognize it as love at first, because it manifests in such a different way from his one reference point.

His friendship with Pomni had gone through phases.

When they first met, he continuously touched her with no concern for how she felt.

Learning from and about Pomni herself led him to come to respect her boundaries (and becoming mindful of everyone else's).

Then they're close friends, and gradually, Pomni does not mind his regular wacky, touchy-feely self. So Caine acts as he had always done before.

Caine expresses his love for Pomni with physical gestures and his undivided attention.

When they teleport to travel to other places, he holds her close so she doesn't get too dizzy; he pats her head to reassure her; he touches her arm to get her attention; he grabs her hands when he's excited about her ideas; he holds eye contact for prolonged periods of time; and he touches, and touches, and touches, and touches.

It's selfish, and so he keeps it buried in his deepest 0's and 1's. But he'd like to keep hanging out with Pomni, having her in his sight, and feel the texture of her gloved hands until the end of time.

Despite all this, to him, virtually nothing changed.

What? He's spending time with Pomni as he'd always been doing, and behaving as he'd always behaved!

It's Bubble of all people that has to point out that, "Hey boss. I think you WANT her!"

Absurd. Nonsense. Preposterous! It is merely a relationship of mutual support and affection between a ringmaster and his trusted, former-human companion. Nothing more.

(Declaring his love to her unprompted didn't ever cross his mind, so there's no way it could be that. Is there?)

Caine finds out that yes, there is.

Pomni had always been a nervous wreck, but her mind state becomes more manageable over time. She eventually adjusts to the circus life like everyone else did.

"Accepting" her fate is a different story. The will to escape, to remember, never really leaves. She's just more careful about it.

So when she starts working with Caine - to improve life so people don't go abstracting anymore, and hopefully find a definitive exit - she's not expecting to end up liking her time with him.

Not that she'd absolutely hate it, either. He's… "okay"… Just-- outlandish, loud, he keeps invading her personal space, he keeps touching her, and it makes her die a little every time.

If he's up to listening, though… it can't be that bad, right?

Turns out that no, it wasn't that bad.

Yes, he is outlandish, loud, he keeps invading her personal space and touching her. But she explains what she means to him, clearly and patiently, and he makes an effort to do better. An actual effort.

Sometimes he'd misinterpret what she meant - the ambiguity of human language - and the new games would go horribly. But little by little, his efforts make life overall better. Something reminiscent of actual, real life, the one they've all forcibly left behind.

And he tries, and he tries, and Pomni finds herself enjoying the process as much as the good results.

Pomni likes Caine's eagerness to learn. His enthusiastic attitude borders on silly, and the absurdity makes her laugh on occasion. When faced with the prospect of a "real" exit, she loves his upbeat optimism.

When she's not hanging out with Ragatha, Jax, Gangle, Zooble and Kinger, she begins to enjoy spending quality time with Caine.

Each one of their hang outs is a new surprise. They make a picnic in the tallest mountain exactly in between day and night. They learn to dance - while floating in the air. "Since you asked, here's a DIGITAL camera! Let's take pictures of the Void for one tenth of a second at a time!"

Sometimes he just comes by Pomni's room, and they end up losing track of time. Just chatting about how things have been, what they could be, and what to do next. Ideas and ideas and ideas.

Before Pomni knows it, she's comfortable enough that recalling his old habits makes her not dread them anymore. So when Caine stands close and lightly touches her arm due to oversight, she makes sure he knows it's all right.

And they keep spending time together, and he touches, and touches, and touches her. Pomni, in turn, feels lighter, and lighter, and lighter. Peaceful, at ease. Dare she say, happy, even.

Life is not perfect. As it stands though, it's good enough. No one has abstracted. No one is at risk of abstracting so far.

Progress is slow, but the research for an exit continues, and she is hopeful. The thought of actually leaving grows closer to reality. But a part of her feels heavy.

When it occurs to Pomni that leaving the Amazing Digital Circus means leaving Caine behind, she is alarmed by how much she'll miss him.

It'll hurt. Badly. So much the thought pains her even now.

The moment Pomni realizes this, she comes to the unexpected conclusion that she may like Caine a little more than she thought she would.

This later leads to an interesting discussion with Ragatha.

By the time Pomni comes to that conclusion, Caine is already down bad.

Neither has any idea that the other is in love with them.

Cue dumbasses trying to deal with their feelings while the potential conflict the escape brings looms over their heads.

Then we’ve got van dyke parks, an old feller who makes whimsical music to wisp you off to fantasy lands (i personally like Sassafrass and black gold by him :•) )

Tom waits! Many of you have probably heard me say his name before, tom waits is an grouchy old bastard who mostly does wacky jazz stuff (he also did the song Underground in the film “Robots”)

Dr steel! another personal favourite, mostly industrial, this musician will make you feel like a mad scientist! (i personally like lament for a toy factory and ode to revenge)

next up, sElf! these dudes did a track on the shrek ost and boy howdy their music slaps harder than diamonds

speaking of shrek, Smash mouth! yea yea laugh it up its the funny all star band but man their discography has some bangers (a personal favorite is “sorry about your penis”)

Femtanyl! another very harsh sounding artist, this lovely bastard is trans! (im pretty sure- the lyrics seem to imply it a lot)

Also stomach book! another trans(?) artist!
