Loli’s Hot Take ⇢ I am a better human because I grew up with tapes reruns of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. This is a must see for every human. A lesson in tolerance, growth, and acceptance.

I had a scare on a run that turned out very well thanks to some neighbors I didn't even know. ❤️
I'm staying with a friend while she's sick so I was running through an unfamiliar area tonight.
Out of nowhere, two big dogs charged me. They only stopped running up on me when I finally heard them through my headphones and faced them. I was just talking to them, not wanting to run and instigate thier chase instincts. But thier body language and the barking sounded like business.
And I have no idea where they came from. I was in an industrial district. Junkyards and mechanics. No place for pups without a nearby caretaker. (I say pups but these were big dogs and I had a healthy fear for the damage they could do if they attacked).
I had no idea what to do. The dogs weren't calming down and it just seemed like a matter of time before they decided to put some bite to their bark.
Then this white minivan comes careening around a corner, horn blaring relentlessly. Three more cars, also laying on their horns follow suit. It confuses and startles the dogs; they're caught between barking at/watching me and making little false start runs to zigzag away from all the blaring horns.
The minivan rolls down their window and because I'm a very anxious person, my first thought, even in this situation was "Oh no, they're mad at me". I tried to explain that I don't know where the dogs came from and I was just trying to get away. Then I thought they might be *their* dogs, and asked if they needed help wrangling them/getting them home. I was still trying to figure out who these women were and how I had upset them when they asked:
"Fuck no. Are *you* okay?"
When I assured them that I was fine, just rattled, they led the cacophonous chase, herding the dogs away with thier horns. I watched them drive for about a mile before they turned left after the dogs, out of my line of sight.
I had to run in that direction to get back so after shaking myself off, I got started again. I felt wearily hopeful that they had gotten the dogs far enough away that I could make it back without them circling around and catching me.
I couldn't have made it another half mile before the ladies in the minivan returned (sans dogs this time).
They rolled down the window again and parked the car in the middle of the road. They had circled back to make sure I was really all right and to let me know that they had gotten the dogs a few miles away. They said they would have run them over if they had seen any threat to my safety. I kept thanking them but they kept swatting my gratitud away, pouring out more righteous indignation on my behalf. Wondering who could endanger someone's safety by letting those dogs out.
All that, and I didn't know these women from Adam.
It was late. It was a busy street with a tough turnaround. They were emphatic, but they looked tired. They went so far out of their way to help a total stranger. And then they drove off.
There's no big moral to this story. It's just one of many frequent reminders that I cherish of community care. I love seeing neighbors show up for each other. I love helping my community where I can. I love feeling cared for by strangers. It rejuvenates me and my faith in people.
So thank you again, my knights in the white minivan. I hope the kindness you put out in the world comes back to you even more abundantly.
And if you read all of this, relatively uneventful story, thank you as well. I hope this snippet of community care ignites the same little spark in you as it did for me. ❤️

Do Maric’s brothers ever know what Maric is up to?
At the time they lived together or after that? Either way the answer would be "no". Neither Rowan nor Veles were close with him and none of the three ever showed any attempts to bond at all, the only person Maric considered worthy of sharing his thoughts and ideas with was his Grandfather.
After a few attempts to fit in Maric left his hometown (he was 19 at that time). All of the ideas depicted in the story came to him after that so they couldn't have known about them either. Moreover Rowan was convinced that Maric simply won't survive on his own and will either come back and put up with his mediocre life like everyone else or die.
(I'm currently working on a comic where I can uncover slightly more about Maric, his family and his past!)
