Why is the anime so weird, it's not even the same series dude?? It's like,
Anime:
GOKU: I have a great idea to bring peace to the universe, and my leadership and compassion alone will unite us all. I have No Flaws and am A True Relatable Everyman :)
VEGETA: NO! I AM THE BEST AND I WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS UNTIL I AM RECOGNIZED AS SUCH!!!!
Manga:
GOKU: Vegeta what's cornmeal made of? I know it's what the corn eats, but what's it made of? VEGETA: Hey Kakarot let's play the quiet game until one of us dies.
#silly hours#I do not understand this writing it's so bad aklsdlkasjd#Toei wants Goku to be Clark Kent SO bad and he SO isn't lmao#they're so good and dumb and rounded and complex in the manga what is the anime so afraid of#Toriyama said 'no no this man is a detached faux-immortal who has a dear pure heart but he's childlike and selfish even though he's kind'#and toei went 'got it goku's never done anything wrong ever in his life'#toriyama said 'Vegeta's gone through a lot and he's finally settling into his more mature leadership role with the confidence he's earned'#and toei said 'got it vegeta has the confidence of a high school bully except now he can interact with his family as a comedy bit'#girl hWHAT#Toei trying to group Goku and Vegeta as two people who would rather train than be with their families and Toriyama said NO Vegeta wants#to be HOME this is the first time in years that he's HAD ONE and it makes him HAPPY to be with his wife and children!!#Vegeta trains so that he can protect the things he doesn't want to lose again and Goku trains because it's the thing that makes him happies#They are NOT the same lmao And yeah Vegeta still wants to beat Goku but he also knows that Gohan could dogwalk both of them if he wanted#He also knows Trunks and Goten are going to surpass them it's not about being the best anymore he's past that he just wants to Not Need Gok#He just doesn't want to have to rely on Goku to save the day he wants to be Enough on his own he just wants to know he can be#because every time it's mattered he WASN'T and people he loved were lost to his inability to protect them and he carries that#Like Whis diagnosed him with anxiety and cptsd out in the open and Beerus said he was self-centered for feeling guilt#+ he lowkey enjoys the rivalry it keeps him goal-oriented so he can't get complacent and lazy which is what triggered his Buu Saga breakdow#realized how Fucked Up it was that having a home and loving family made him feel like he was failing and went 'wait no I won actually??'#now he's chill as fuck in the manga. cool confident leader.#and sometimes he is childish and dumb with Goku as a treat#you know what rocks about his rivalry with Goku in Super though is that it's Playful. Vegeta is learning how to Play.#You ever seen a shelter dog get introduced to a really playful dog and it takes a minute for the shelter dog to understand it's safe here#And then they're both running around the backyard playing hot potato with one braincell?? That's Goku and Vegeta's relationship#and the way the anime sleeps on that dynamic is so fucking criminal especially when it's literally canon it's in print it's out there#you had the playbook how'd you fumble it this bad#anyway that's my 25+ year blorbo thoughts I love Geets a lot okay#And I love Goku in the manga a lot I'd forgotten that he's actually a great character when Toei's not fucking up his whole vibe

the love you deserve II
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader (fem!reader)
Word Count: almost 3k, ops
Summary: “He’s Bucky Barnes, Captain America’s best friend. He was the guy at the Triskelion, they say he’s the one who killed JFK.”
It can’t be real. Your Jaime visits and plays with lonely, sickly kids in hospitals because he remembers what it was like growing up with his asthmatic, diabetic friend Steve. Whoever this Bucky guy is, he’s not your Jaime, your Jaime could never harm a fly. Your Jaime is good, he’s compassionate. Surely your friend must be wrong.
Warnings: soft!bucky, hurt!reader, angst, fluff, lying, cheating, drug use, alcohol consumption (including mentions of underage drinking), language that Steve Rogers wouldn’t approve of.
A/N: AU where Civil War and Thanos never happen, Tony forgives Bucky and he retires. This is my very first attempt at writing in English, I’m not a native speaker, so forgive me for any mistakes :)
This is part 2, please comment and reblog and let me know what you think of it :) feedback is always appreciated! I plan on writing at least another part, maybe two.
What do you think of the reader?
Tumblr media
Part 1
The day before
Las Vegas, Nevada
Vegas is hot and dry as hell. It’s also a lot of fun, so the movies did not lie about that at least. They did exaggerate how fun the casinos would be tho.
You’re at a pool party, sipping on a drink, silently judging the moves of the sweaty people who are dancing around you.
You just got off a facetime call with Jaime, and god you miss him and Alpine too, but life is good and you’re the happiest you’ve ever been, your best friend is getting married to the man she loves and you’re having the time of your life with your girlfriends.
“So, you’re not having cold feet, are you?” you hear Hannah question Jade.
They’re basking in the sun around you.
Jade hesitates as she douses herself in sunblock.
“I gotta say I’m kind of scared but I’ve been dreaming about this for three years, so no? I guess. I don’t know. I love him.”
“That didn’t answer the question.” you observe.
“Are you sure you’re ready to commit to one dick only for the rest of your life?” Raven asks, and you all laugh and roll your eyes playfully.
Ever the commitaphobe, just like you. Well, like you used to be before you met Jaime.
You hate rush hour after work, you hate it so much in fact that you’d rather go to your work’s gym and workout even though you’re exhausted than catch a packed train.
By the time you get to the station most people are home already.
He’s here today.
You’ve seen him quite a lot in the past few weeks. The first thing you noticed about him is the way he seems to fold in on himself, his hunched shoulders and lowered head.
His bad posture aggravates you beyond reason, and you just wish you could go there and straighten his back without looking like a weirdo. But you can’t, so you just admire from afar like the good creep you are.
He’s always wearing a baseball cap over luscious but questionably greasy hair, huge winter jackets and leather gloves; still, underneath all that it’s clear he’s handsome. You always had a thing for men built like brick houses.
Today is the day, you think, today is the day I finally strike a conversation with the guy, it’s now or never.
Truth is, the loneliness he exudes breaks your heart and the way people avoid him like he’s got the plague enrages you for no particular reason. Somehow the ever indifferent New Yorkers would rather stand on a moving train than sit next to him, and that something about that that irks you way too much.
You really don’t understand why. Sure he’s intimidating, he’s a huge man, but he’s quiet and calm and he smiles softly when he spots a dog on the train. He gets off at same stop you do and no matter how isolate the station and the streets are by the time you get home, even if you two are the only ones there, you’ve never felt uneasy.
So you go and sit next to him, you smile when he looks up in surprise and you say hi.
He stutters an ‘evening ma’am’ and you’re proud of yourself because you’ve got it in you to made the big scary guy blush like a schoolgirl.
“Not to be a creep or anything but I’ve seen you around quite a lot, we commute together almost every day.” You chuckle and you introduce yourself.
“I uhm-” he’s cute when he furrows his brows “ I’m Jame- Jaime. I’m Jaime.”
You smile at the memory.
Jaime turned out to be a lot less shy than anticipated. He was a stuttering mess on the first few dates but the more you got to know him, the more he opened up to show his true sarcastic, snarky nature, whilst still being a gentle giant and an absolute sweetheart.
He’s thoughtful, cocky and sweet at the same time. He makes you melt in a puddle whenever he snuggles Alpine on the inside of his jacket, and the rumble of his voice is enough to make your brain short circuit and your panties dampen.
“There goes that look again, you’re such a love sick fool.”
“Oh God, you should see her when she’s with her precious Jaime, they literally have heart eyes, they’re so cute together it makes me sick to my stomach.”
You laugh and shake your head at Raven’s and Jade’s teasing.
“Hey, it’s not that bad, you should have seen yourself the day you met Matt, bitch, you looked like you’d never seen a man before. I ain’t forget.” you retort.
Hannah laughs and adds “When are we going to meet mystery man? It’s not fair that Jade only to got to see him. And word on the streets is that he’s real pretty.”
“When you three learn how to behave. But I can show you a picture, just please don’t be weird about it.” you finally relent after five months of avoiding the topic.
“He’s very, very hot ladies.” Jade quips.
You send her a side glance (goodnaturedly of course) and show them how pretty your sweet boy is.
Raven’s jaw goes slack as she clutches your phone and gawks at the picture.
“Lucky bastard, he’s literally the hottest guy I’ve ever seen, where did you find him and how did you convince him to be with you of all people?”
You laugh at Raven’s blunt remarks. They playful banter between the two of you has been going on since freshman year of college.
“Now I get why you have that dumb love struck face on you at all times.” Hannah adds.
Grace tho, she’s unusually quiet, and she stares at him with a scowl on her face. Her eyes travel slowly from your phone to your face, and the anticipation to know the reason why is killing you.
“Uhm, you’re dating him? And you said his name is Jaime?” she hesitates.
Whatever is going to come out of her mouth, you already know you’re not going to like it.
“Look, maybe I’m wrong and I’m mistaking him for someone else but I’m pretty positive I’m right and, ah” Another pause, you’re about to faint. “There’s no way to break it down to you in a way that won’t hurt but” she sighs “he’s lying to you.”
Ice fills your veins. You can feel dread crawling up your spine.
Is he someone else’s boyfriend? Are you the other woman or is he cheating on you? Is he a professional scammer?
“What the hell are you talking about Gracie?” Jade almost shouts, and you’re one heartbeat away from fainting.
Grace looks at you with all the pity in the world and you want nothing more than to erase that expression from her face.
“He’s Bucky Barnes, Captain America’s best friend. He was the guy at the Triskelion, they say he’s the one who killed JFK.”
The world around you stops spinning for a second as the ring in your ears get louder. You just wish the ground could open up and swallow you whole.
All of a sudden you start laughing hysterically like she’s told the funniest joke you’ve ever heard, you laugh so ugly that a few heads turn in your direction and give you funny looks, so loud that your friends are startled and even more worried.
Jaime, your sweet baby boy who adopted a three legged blind cat no one else at the shelter wanted to save him from being euthanized.
Jaime who volunteers at the VA with his pal Sam to help war vets reintegrate in society after they get back home, because he knows what it’s like to have your life turned around, to find yourself with no commands to obey all of a sudden and more trauma than you know what to do with. He knows what it is like to know no peace, to sleep a couple hours a week until you’re hallucinating so bad you’re begging the universe to just end your suffering.
He goes grocery shopping for the elderly couple next door whose kids never visit, because they are too weak, too sick, too tired to leave the house.
“I’m sorry sweetie, it’s not your fault, you couldn’t have know.”
Grace hands you a phone, open on his Wikipedia page.
Jaime’s sky-blue eyes stare back at you.
Tumblr media
You really let him play a number on you, didn’t you?
You feel a hot surge of blinding anger and you want to tear the world apart, you want to take Jaime- no, not Jaime, James and bitch slap him in the face so damn hard you convey the humiliation you’re feeling right now, knowing that the man you love and thought you knew lied to your face for five fucking months.
Did he ever consider coming clean, revealing his true identity?
Was he ever planning on telling you? Or would he move in with you, wake up and go to bed with you every day feeding you lies upon lies?
Would you end up married to a man that doesn’t exist and have kids with a ghost?
Grow old with a guy who said he was 33 but is actually 99?
Would he never get undressed in front of you? How was he planning on hiding is metal arm? Surely one day you’d be intimate and you would see it? The whole “I want to wait cause I’m old fashioned like that” would eventually need to stop.
Or maybe it wasn’t a serious relationship at all for him, not in the way it was for you. Not in the way you wanted to spend the rest of your days loving him and making him the happiest man alive. Not in the way you were ready to commit to him, body and soul, for all eternity.
Now the endearing terms he used to call you, his babydoll, his little doll, they taste bitter on your tongue.
A doll, literally. A little toy to play with and toss aside once he got bored of his little game.
Why didn’t you tell me? Why did I have to find out like this?
It reminds you of that time in your junior year of college, you were dating this guy back then, and you liked him, he was fun, the sex was good, he supported you in your endless hours of cheer practice.
One day he told you he was sick and couldn’t make it to your afternoon study date. That same night you ran into him at a frat party with his friends. Wasn’t so sick after all.
You broke up on the spot, shed a few tears while your teammates held you and moved on with your life with your head held high, because that’s what you’ve been doing all your life no matter how many curveballs the universe throws your way.
You vividly recall what hurt the most: the feeling of being lied to and toyed with. The hot humiliation that burns your cheeks and makes your eyes water when you realized you have yet again misplaced your trust. The inevitable question that plague you for days on end: what else did he lie about? How could I be so damn stupid?
His name was Tommy, and sometimes in the following years your first instinct when a man told you anything was to obsess over whether they were being honest or not. Until Jaime, that is, you trusted Jaime with your life, you would never question him, and look where that got you.
You’re aware you’re overthinking and maybe overreacting at this point, and that wailing in your own misery while your girlfriends are out having fun in a club is doing you no good, nor is it changing your current predicament. But you never listen to the voice of reason, and you won’t start today.
Tumblr media
The room feels too hot and too cold at the same time.
You’re sweating but your body is shaking. You’re breathing but the air you inhale won’t reach your lungs. You’re blinking your eyes frantically but you only see darkness. You hear your own heart beat out of your chest.
It seems like the room you’re in is closing down on you and there’s no space left, you’re being crushed by those walls around you, you’re drowning, you’re suffocating.
Is this what heartbreak feels like, or is it just a heart attack?
Turns out it’s a panic attack, you know because you typed your symptoms on Google.
You are painfully aware you’re spiralling out of control.
Get a grip.
All you can think about is how you want him to suffer, you want him to feel the same humiliation you’re feeling right now. You want him to feel his chest compress, his throat tighten, you want him to know what it’s like when your heart is breaking in a thousand pieces and you can’t even breathe.
You want his world to come tumbling down on him and crush him under the weight of his mistakes.
You don’t care why he did it. You don’t give a single fuck about his reasons.
Because the truth is, no matter who he was in his past life, no matter how many he killed or tortured, you would have loved him all the same. You would have carried the weight of the world on your shoulders if it meant he could sleep soundly at night.
But he didn’t give you a chance to.
And because you never fucking think before you act, you put your best dress on a join the girls at the club they’re at, and you hope the tequila is going to drown your sorrow and dull the pain burning you from within.
Tonight you don’t want to feel anymore.

Four months ago.
Brooklyn, New York.
Every morning, Bucky wakes up at 5.30 am and joins Steve Rogers on his jog around the neighborhood, and every morning without failure Bucky is grumpy about it. He hates the early mornings, especially in the winter, but he can’t find it in himself to refuse Steve anything.
Steve is smart and too observing for his own good and he knows that something has changed. He knows it in the way Bucky’s steps are louder and bouncier, his back is straighter, his smile is easier, his eyes shine brighter.
He knows it because underneath the sandalwood scent of Buck’s deodorant and the musky smell of his sweat, he can sometimes detect the less pungent fragrance of coconut and peaches.
“So, who is she?”
The question catches him off guard. Bucky stops dead in his track and looks at his friend like a deer caught in the headlights.
“What, you thought I wouldn’t notice?”
At that he has the decency to blush.
“She’s- she’s perfect. I met her on the ride home from the shelter. ‘member when we were kids, we used to dream about the future? I swore I’d get myself a pretty wife and love her for the rest of my days and have a bunch of kids?”
“Yeah, I used to tell you you’d have to stop dragging me in those god awful double dates, or else you wouldn’t get any of those pretty girls to stick around.”
The two share a bittersweet smile as they reminisce how their life could have been.
“She’s pretty, you know, she’s sweet, she’s a bit of an asshole but the good kind, she’s so damn smart, you know all those science things I used to like before the war? She knows them all. She’s an engineer. I know my Ma would have approved of her, and Becca would have died to have her as a sister.”
“So why’s that long face?”
Bucky snorts.
Of course, how could Captain America understand? People don’t avoid him like he’s got some infectious disease, they don’t give him dirty looks, girls don’t cross the street when they see him, mothers with kids on their hips don’t cover their children as if he was the Boogeyman. “She didn’t recognize me, and well I- I can’t tell her. She wouldn’t want me, and I like her too much to mess this up.”
“Buck.” Steve gives him his best stern look. “You have to tell her, she has a right to know who she’s seeing. If she’s the one she’s going to love you all the same, but don’t lie to her. These secrets can only backfire in the long run. It’s going to ruin your relationship.”
Bucky nods absentmindedly and continues running without uttering another word.
No one could ever love his true self, he thinks bitterly. No one could help him carry the weight of his past on his shoulders.
If only he had known back then how right Stevie would be, he would have told you everything four months ago.

A Dog by Any Other Name
Tumblr media
Rating: T for swearing
Length: 3.2k
Summary:  After her boyfriend finds himself arrested, Emma Swan is left with a broken heart, a trashed apartment... and her ex's dog. While she agrees to keep the dog, she draws the line at calling him such a ridiculous name. Killian Jones, her hot British neighbor, wholeheartedly agrees.
On AO3
Notes: Here is my contribution to @cspupstravaganza! Thank you to @profdanglaisstuff and @kmomof4 for organizing this event, and thank you to the lovely ladies on the discord for making this event so much fun!
Thank you as always to @shireness-says for her amazing beta skills, even though her lack of faith in my puns is disturbing. That John Oliver quote is for you, even though I wholeheartedly disagree with it.
Disclaimer: I do think the dog’s name is terrible, and I designed it this way. I in no way think this is a good pun, or even that you should pun when naming a pet.
Enjoy!
Emma sits on her couch, contemplating the mess that her apartment has become.
(Her life also has gone down the drain, but it’s easier to think about her living room.)
She says “her” living room, but yesterday it had been “their” living room – as in hers and Walsh’s, her now former boyfriend. Turns out she’s got a knack for dating losers, because just this morning as she was brushing her hair and Walsh was putting the coffee on, the police had banged on their door to arrest him and search the apartment.
Walsh was accused of smuggling stolen goods and embezzling. Now she understands why he’d insisted on putting the lease in her name only; bastard wanted to cover his tracks.
Emma looks at the plaster and wooden frame scattered over the floor, all that remained of her ornamental mantle; she’d told Walsh that she’d always wanted a chimney when she was a child to hang Christmas stockings from and to spend cold days in front of. He’d surprised her when she had come back from a three-day stakeout with a new addition to their living room. She’d thought it sweet at the time, even if not what she had meant at all, but she now realizes that he’d had it built to hide money inside. Tens of thousands of dollars. That he’d stolen. Sleazy fucking asshole.
Not only does she have to piece her life back together, but she also has to get her living room wall fixed. She won’t rebuild the chimney; it was gaudy and useless. Who builds a chimney with no hearth, anyway? It was a lie, just like her relationship.
Her second biggest problem yips next to her on the couch. Oh, right. She’d forgotten for a moment that her ex had left her with his dog. His dog, not theirs. He’d had it before they met, and Emma had warned Walsh when they’d moved in together that she wouldn’t take over his dog duties.
Plus that dog has the stupidest name she’s ever heard.
Frantic knocking on the door announces the arrival of Mary Margaret, the dog’s barking picking up in volume. David must have told her – did she mention that it was her brother’s squad who had searched her apartment? Bringing in her next perp is going to be all kinds of awkward, now that Lieutenant Fa knows what’s hidden in the back of her underwear drawer.
“Emma!” her sister-in-law and best friend says as she bustles in, gasping when she sees the state of the living room. “Are you alright?”
Emma snorts. Of course she isn’t alright, but for the moment she’s letting her anger overshadow her pain. Much easier this way. “My apartment is in shambles, my brother’s coworkers snooped through my whole life, and I learnt this morning that my boyfriend was a criminal. How do you think I feel?”
“Oh honey, I’m so sorry,” Mary Margaret says, hugging her. “Do you need anything?”
While an extraordinary amount of alcohol is Emma’s first answer, she swallows it back, not wanting to incur her friend’s disapproval. A bark and a little head bumping her leg give the blonde a more appropriate answer. “Yeah, do you have the number of a good shelter? I have to take care of this guy.”
Mary Margaret gasps as if she had just disclosed her plans to kill puppies in front of babies. “What? Why would you do that to your dog? Poor little Nacy, you can’t get rid of him!”
Emma groans at the mention of the dog’s name. Walsh had wanted to be clever when naming his dog and had called him Nacious in the most terrible pun to ever be uttered. Because his dog was a pug, so he was the pug Nacious. Pugnacious. “A ferocious little guy!” Walsh used to say, elbowing Emma as if she were in on the joke.
Turns out Emma had been the butt of the joke all along. Ha. Ha.
“He’s not my dog,” Emma snaps, “he’s Walsh’s, and right now? I want to get rid of every single trace of that idiot from my life. Including his stupid dog.”
“Emma!” This time she’s being scolded. “I know you’re hurting, but you can’t talk this way about Nacious, he is not stupid.”
She knows he’s not stupid. His name is, though.
Mary Margaret’s wheedling as they clean up manages to overcome Emma’s resolve to get rid of Nacious. Her attempts to get Emma to change her mind culminate in Mary Margaret holding the dog up to Emma’s face and looking at her with big round eyes. She will not call them puppy eyes; she has already had enough dog-related puns to last her a lifetime.
Emma draws the line at the name, though. It has to go.
 ----
Emma had started looking for a contractor as soon as the apartment had been cleared of debris and everything either put back in its place, or in a trashbag if it belonged to Walsh.
(Except the engagement ring. That had been quite the surprise – one that had made her sob for a whole night as Nacious licked her face, whining in worry. The ring she had kept, planning on pawning it off. It would pay for the repairs to her living room, at least.)
She finds one quickly, right in front of her mailbox while coming back from walking Nacious on the following Saturday morning. She’s on the phone with a building company, arguing with them about the price that they want her to pay for an expert to come assess the work that needs to be done. They seem to be under the impression that she isn’t aware making her pay $200 for a simple estimate is way too much. As she ends the call rather angrily, someone clears their throat behind her, making her turn around to come face to face with one of her neighbors. She’s seen him a couple of times in the lift, but apart from noticing how handsome he was, his striking blue eyes and the fact he was British, she didn’t know anything about him, not even his name.
“I’m sorry to have eavesdropped, lass, but I understand you seem to be in need of a contractor?” he asks her, smiling tentatively.
“Why, are you one?” Emma answers quite shortly, annoyed by her phone call and nosy neighbors.
“I’m not, but my brother is,” he says, rummaging in his satchel and fishing out a business card. “He does very good work, and he provides free assessments too,” he finishes mischievously.
Emma takes the card, still wary, even as Nacious tugs on his leash, trying to get closer to the man. Jones Contracting is written in a no-nonsense black on the card, along with a website and contact info. She could give them a try, she guesses. At least if anything goes pear-shaped, she’ll know where his brother lives.
“Thanks,” she tells him, slightly mollified, “I’ll – Nacious!”
The dog had managed to pull enough on his leash to reach the man’s – Jones, she guesses – legs and had started to play with his shoelaces, pulling on them and slobbering over Jones’ shoes. Ferocious little guy, my ass , Emma thinks disdainfully. The only way it would hurt a fly is if it drooled on it too much.
Jones looks down before squatting, reaching to scratch behind the dog’s ears. “Hello little lad! In a playful mood, are we?” Then, blinking, he looks up at Emma, “Wait, did you say his name is Nacious? Pugnacious? Really ?”
“Oh, believe me, not my idea. Blame my ex for that, he had the worst sense of humor ever.”
“Clearly, if he called his dog that . What that’s quote again? ‘Wit is the lowest form of humor, and puns are the lowest form of wit’?”.
“And also the ‘worst form of human behavior.’ I watch John Oliver too,” Emma says, smiling slightly. “Although I have to disagree with him, as Walsh sank even lower than bad puns.”
“Ah, yes, and got himself arrested for it,” her neighbor nods as he straightens up. Emma winces. So everyone in the building knows about it. Great, as if she needed to be the subject of gossip on top of everything else.
“Sorry, love, shouldn’t have said it like that. Probably shouldn’t have said it at all, to be honest,” Jones apologizes, scratching behind his ear in embarrassment.
“Nah, it’s fine. It’s not like his arrest was very discreet, was it?”
“No, it wasn’t. But still, thinking Nacious is a good name for a dog is criminal in and of itself.”
“Which is why I’m going to change it. Just need to find something appropriate.”
“Oh, as long as it isn’t Ilist, you should be good. Can’t sink any lower.”
Emma snorts despite herself. Who knew the gorgeous Brit had a sense of humor?
 ----
And so Emma calls Jones Contractors and talks to a bubbly woman on the phone, then a tall Brit in her apartment who comes to assess (for free) what needs to be done. He introduces himself as Liam Jones, and is very professional, despite a twinkle in his eye that is quite reminiscent of the one in his brother’s gaze. The quote is reasonable and in her budget, so Emma meets Belle, Liam’s wife and co-owner to draft and sign the contract.
Work on her living room starts the next week and advances quickly. Liam is a quick worker, and works cleanly. That is, until he accidentally hits a pipe while tearing out the ruined section of wall. He ends up completely drenched before he manages to stop the leak.
“Sorry lass, do you mind if I call my brother? I can’t continue like this and I’ve got a change of clothes at his flat, it would only take a few minutes.”
“Sure,” Emma agrees, shrugging. “I’ll start mopping while you do that.”
The brother – her neighbor – arrives five minutes later, his arms full and his eyebrow raised.
“Hello lass, heard my brother was making a mess?”
Before Emma can answer, excited yips grow closer as Nacious (or Spencer, as she’s started calling him, but she’s not a fan) bounds to the door, running between Emma and Jones excitedly.
“Good morning to you too Nacious, has your mistress found a new name for you yet?”
“Nacious? I thought his name was Spencer?” Liam says as he comes dripping to the door.
“I’m… trying out new names,” Emma explains, taking Nacious in her arms.
“Good idea, Nacious is really weird for a dog.”
“You don’t understand, brother. What kind of dog is it?”
“A pug – oh you gotta be kidding me. A pun, really?” Liam exclaims, scrunching his nose in distaste.
“It was not my idea,” Emma insists. “It was my ex’s own brand of humor.”
“There’s no humor in that, lass, merely mediocrity. That arse deserves every day of jail he’s gonna get, even if only for that pun.”
Emma agrees, even if she can’t believe that even her contractor knows about her terrible taste in men. Then again, his brother probably had filled him in as to why she needed work done in her apartment. Still.
Liam takes the clothes from Killian and turns without another word towards the bathroom, muttering under his breath about arseholes and punsters and bloody crimes against humanity , leaving Emma and her neighbor standing a little awkwardly in her entryway.
“Well, that’s Liam,” Killian says, shaking his head slightly. “My brother has never managed to master social graces, I’m afraid.”
Emma snorts, before looking behind her and sighing. “Better get back to mopping, I guess.”
Killian curiously looks over her shoulder at the living room, and his eyes widen when he sees the mess of water and soaked towels on the floor.
“That’s quite the mess you’ve got there, Swan,” he grimaces. “Would you like some help?”
“Oh no, don’t worry about it,” Emma says, putting Spencer down to grab the mop. “I’ve got it cov– Na– Spencer, no !”
Her stupid ex’s dog has run through the puddle and is now zipping across the whole apartment, leaving tracks everywhere and – oh no, he’s jumped onto the couch.
A light chuckle sounds behind her. “Are you sure you don’t need help, love?”
Without a word, Emma shoves the mop in Killian’s hands and goes to get her wet dog off the couch, wiping his feet with the last dry towel in her apartment before locking him in her bedroom. When she comes back to her living room, Liam has exited the bathroom and is working on fixing the burst pipe and bantering with Killian, who’s wringing the wet towels on the floor into a bucket before dropping them back on the hardwood. It feels… nice, her living room lively again after weeks of being an empty shell for her memories.
Emma joins them after a few seconds to finish taking care of the puddle and clean the dirty tracks crisscrossing her living space. It seriously looks like a whole football team (and their probably less stupidly-named dog) have traipsed through her apartment after practice. Once it’s done, Killian doesn’t leave. They spend the afternoon trying to teach Spencer his new name as Liam pretends to work, though it seems the dog’s not a fan; Even his favorite treats don’t convince him to respond to their call, though they do prompt Liam’s laughter every time.
The next days pass in the same manner, with Killian and Emma trying to find a name that Nacious will answer to, Nacious spending his time either ignoring them or slobbering between them, and Liam alternating between repairing Emma’s wall and bantering with his brother and Emma. It’s nice, it’s comfortable, it’s warm . Emma also learns new things about Killian: he’s a professor of British history at Boston College and is on break right now, he loves Twain, despises Melville, and lost the fight to name his and his brother’s sailboat the Jolly Roger. It turns out, he is a huge nerd.
Emma is disappointed when Liam finishes at the end of the week, already missing her afternoons with the two Jones brothers – okay, one in particular, and it’s not the one covered in paint. Which is why she’s surprised to hear knocking on her door on Saturday morning, though Nacious’ excitement (or Windham, as they tried to christen him yesterday – Nacious isn’t a fan of British Conservatives, apparently) gives her a clue as to who might be behind the door. Seriously, it had been love at first sight for her dog; she’d be jealous of the attention Killian is getting, if she weren’t so vindictively satisfied that Nacious had never reacted this way to Walsh. There’s justice in the world, apparently.
Opening the door does reveal Killian, who smiles at Emma before greeting her dog, scratching behind his ears until Nacious’ tongue lolls out in bliss. Strangely enough, Killian keeps a hand behind his back.
“Killian! Can I help you?”
“Er, no,” her neighbor says, straightening up. “I just wondered if you’d allow me to give a small gift to Winston?”
Emma blinks, nonplussed. Of all the things she had expected, this was definitely not one of them. She watches as Killian gets a squeaky chicken toy dressed like a pirate from behind his back and holds it out to her. Emma takes it and can’t help but squeeze. Windham/Nacious turns towards the noise immediately, his eyes locking on the source of the noise and his little paws shuffling excitedly on the floor. Emma looks at the chicken, completely blown away. She had mentioned a couple of days ago wanting to replace Nacious’ squeaky toy as a throwaway remark, and they’d been joking about trying pirate names next. The guy had listened to her, and bought a pirate chicken for her dog. He was funny, clever, and handsome to boot.
Also, there was no way tens of thousands of dollars were hidden in that toy.
“Would you like to get coffee sometime?” she blurts out, raising her eyes just in time to see a blush steal across Killian’s face.
“Shouldn’t I be the one doing the asking?” he quips, raising an eyebrow teasingly.
“Well, I did it first,” Emma shoots back, smiling slightly. “So?”
“I’d love to, love,” comes Killian’s answer, as he smiles widely at her.
Emma smiles back, feeling giddy. So giddy, in fact, she doesn’t notice Nacious snapping the squeaky toy out of her limp hand and running back into the apartment, squeaks and yips sounding alternately.
----
4 years later
Emma sits on her couch, contemplating the mess that her living room has become. Toys, both for kids and dogs, litter the floor as screams and splashes sound from the bathroom. From the noise alone, Emma guesses she’ll have to take the mop out… again. Her cheeks hurt from smiling.
Just as she’s about to get up to start tidying up, someone knocks on the door. She wonders who would come at this hour on a Sunday night. She hopes it isn’t Mrs Johnson from down the hall again; the last time she had lent her neighbor her toaster, it had come back smelling like cabbage, of all things.
It’s not Mrs Johnson, though – it’s Walsh, of all people.
“Hey Em,” he says, smiling so widely it looks more like a grimace. “Long time no see, eh?”
“Yeah, weird how being locked up kills your social life, doesn’t it?” Emma snaps back, already tired with his shit.
“Look, I’m not here to argue, I’m just here to get my things,” Walsh says, finally dropping the smile.
“Your things? Dude, they were either donated to Goodwill or thrown out years ago, did you really think I would keep them for you?”
“I… what?” The asshole actually has the gall to look outraged for a second before he rallies, frowning. “Half of what’s in this apartment is mine, Emma, you know it. I want my share.”
“Actually, no. According to the lease, this apartment is mine, and mine only. Anything else?”
Even after all these years, Emma is deeply satisfied to see Walsh flounder as he stands in the hallway. She can hear a tell-tale squeak and yip coming from behind her. Walsh hears it too.
“Nacious? Is that Nacious? You still have my dog?” He sounds actually hopeful. As if.
“Not your dog anymore, dude.”
“Damn right it is!” Walsh exclaims, raising his voice in anger. “Give me my dog back right now, I paid more than a thousand for him, he’s mine !” he goes on, thumping on the door. “Nacious! Come here, boy!”
And oh, does her dog come. He comes right at Walsh’s ankle, biting it as his former owner yowls in pain, hopping in place and looking at him with a mix of anger and incredulity.
“Westley!” Emma calls, before Walsh can get it into his mind to kick her dog. Westley jiggles to Emma smugly, visibly proud of himself for saving his mistress. Emma picks him up, and look at Walsh, who’s still jumping and swearing in the corridor. The opportunity is too beautiful to pass.
“Quite the ferocious little guy, isn’t he?” she chirps, before saying in a much sterner tone. “Never show your face here, ever again. Next time, I’ll be the one to take care of you.”
And then she slams the door.
“Love, is something the matter?” Killian asks, exiting the bathroom with their giggling daughter in his arms.
Emma smiles, looking at the sight of her husband completely soaked, with suds slowly dissolving in his hair as Westley and their baby girl yammer at each other.
“No babe, everything is absolutely perfect.”

Episode 5.5: And Dodger Makes 4
October 21, 2015
The Oregon Ducks fight song filled the quiet bedroom with noise waking both Ellie and Daisy up. The dog snorted her displeasure of being woken up while Ellie reached over and grabbed the phone from her bedside table.
"Hello?" she answered, sleepily.
"Hey babe," Chris's voice echoed through her phone. "Did I wake you?"
Ellie squinted at the clock on his side of the bed and then cursed into the phone. "Chris, it's only 5 in the morning here," she grumbled.
"Ah, shit, babe," Chris groaned. "I'm sorry! You want to call me back later?"
"No, it's fine," she replied, sitting up in their bed and yawning. "What's up?"
"You know how we've been talking about getting a second dog?" Chris asked.
"Uh huh," Ellie replied, stealing a glance at Daisy who'd happily taken over Chris's side of the bed during his absence.
"I think I found him," Chris told her. "I'm going to send you a photo."
A second later there was a ding on her phone and Ellie put Chris on speaker phone before going to look at the photo.
"Oh Chris," she said with a smile. "He's beautiful."
"He's a mutt, the shelter isn't sure what all he is," Chris told her. "He's just over a year old and is the sweetest."
"Do you think he'd get along with Daisy?" she asked.
"He gets along great with the other dogs here," Christ replied. "But the shelter director recommended that we bring Daisy out here to meet him."
"That probably would be a good idea," Ellie agreed. "What's your plan?"
"Well, this is the last week of filming, so I thought the two of you could fly out here on Friday," Chris explained. "We can spend the weekend together at my place here and introduce the dogs. If all goes great then the four of us can head back to LA on Sunday."
"Sounds perfect to me," Ellie said with a smile. "I've really missed you."
"I've missed you, too," Chris sighed. "I'm going to try harder next year to convince you to come with me to Georgia when we film the next Avengers movie."
Ellie smiled as her brain said it wouldn't take much convincing, but her mouth said, "I can't wait to see you try."
Chris chuckled and then groaned as someone on his end of the phone called his name. "Crap, I've got to get back to set," he said. "Sorry for waking you up, babe."
"Don't worry about it," Ellie replied. "Daisy and I will see you on Friday."
"I can't wait," Chris stated. "I love you."
"I love you, too," she replied and then made a kissy sound into the phone.
"If I wasn't surrounded by like 50 other people, I would totally do that, too," Chris told her. "But I'm already getting funny looks."
"Chicken," Ellie teased. "Get back to work so you can afford my first class ticket for this weekend."
"See you Friday," Chris said with a chuckle before hanging up.
Putting her phone back down on her bedside table, Ellie rolled over and looked at Daisy. "This time next week you might have a brother," she told the dog.
Two days later, Ellie walked through the security zone of the airport in Savannah, GA and searched the sea of people for Chris. Spotting someone leaning against the wall with their ball cap wearing head tilted down, she quickly made her way over and smiled when she saw him holding a bouquet of brightly colored daisies.
Chris chanced a glance up as he heard footsteps nearing him and a smile stretched across his face when he saw Ellie standing in front of him. He quickly closed the distance between the two of them and gave her a kiss on the lips, not caring who might be watching. It had been over a month since he'd seen his girlfriend last.
"God, I've missed you," he said as he held her close to him.
"I've missed you, too," she replied, nuzzling her face into his neck and breathing in the spicy, woodsy scent that lingered on him. "You smell really good."
Chris chuckled and placed a kiss on her neck. "Should we go get our girl?" he asked.
"Yes, we should," Ellie replied, remembering they were in a very public airport. "This is the longest flight she has ever been on."
Thirty minutes later they were reunited with Daisy and the dog nearly tackled Chris when she saw him. She greeted him with slobbery kisses and happy barks, knocking his ball cap off his head in the process.
Their actions caught the attention of others in the baggage claim area and a couple kids came over to say hello to Captain America. Ellie pulled Daisy off to the side while Chris greeted the kids and signed a couple things for them. He talked to them for a few minutes before leading them over to Ellie. "They wanted to meet Daisy," he told her. Then he knelt down and patted Daisy on the head. "This is my dog Daisy," he said to the kids. "Let her smell your hand and she might let you pet her."
The kids held their hands out and Daisy sniffed them. Then she tilted her head to the side and gave them a smile with her tongue sticking out from one side of her mouth.
"She likes you guys," Chris said with a chuckle. "And she wants you to pet her neck." He rubbed Daisy's neck and the dog closed her eyes. The kids copied him and only stopped when their parents came over to get them.
Before anyone else could sidetrack them, Chris and Ellie made their way out to the parking garage where his rental car was waiting. They loaded Daisy into the backseat and then climbed into the front seat.
"Damn it is hot," Ellie muttered as she flipped down the sun visor to survey the damage the humidity had done to her hair in the short walk to the car. Groaning at the extra frizzy state, she grabbed a hair tie out of her purse and wrestled her hair into a messy bun while Chris chuckled from the other side of the car. "Oh shut up."
Instead of driving directly to the small condo he had rented for his stay in Savannah, Chris drove them out to the shelter where Dodger was, having already made arrangements with the shelter's director to bring Daisy out for her first meeting with Dodger. Upon arriving there, he sent Ellie inside first to meet Dodger on her own before he brought Daisy in.
Going inside, Ellie introduced herself to the receptionist, saying she had an appointment with the director. She waited a couple minutes for the director to arrive and then followed her into one of the doggy play rooms where the happy dog Chris had sent her a picture of was sitting with a volunteer.
The moment Dodger laid eyes on Ellie he gave her a smile and trotted over to her. He didn't even wait for her to hold out her hand for him to smell, he just melted against her, like he knew they belonged together.
Nodding at the director, Ellie sat down and gave Dodger a good rub as the director left the room to get Chris and Daisy from the lobby.
A couple minutes later, the door opened and Chris came in with Daisy on her leash. Kneeling down, he let her off the leash and then waited to see what she would do.
Slowly, Daisy made her way over to where Ellie sat with Dodger.
"What do you think, Daisy?" Ellie asked her dog.
Daisy and Dodger began to sniff each other out, both using Ellie as a safety net from the other dog.
Quickly enough, however, Dodger gave a playful bark and jumped at Daisy in a playful manner. Daisy looked at the younger dog as if she was trying to decide what to do.
"It's ok, Daisy," Chris told her. "You can play with him."
As if that was what she was waiting for, Daisy gave a playful bark in return.
Ellie looked up and smiled at Chris. Their small family of three had just become a family of four.

Black Coffee & Pumpkin Pie (Ch. 3)
FFN || Ao3 || Ko-fi?
"Wow Neal, so you helped rescue two kids out of a mine?! Talk about a first day! The only thing that happened on my first day was me nearly dropping Charlotte's order all over the place."
Neal laughed, leaning back in his chair as he held his phone in front of him, his adoptive sister's face on the screen. It was surprisingly empty in this part of the station, which he was thankful for given the topic of conversation. "Well firefighting and waitressing are two different jobs, and it's not like I was the one that went down there. But I'm sure something exciting will happen to you. You're still in the big city, remember?"
"Yeah yeah. Hey, Mama wanted to know if you've met your dad yet."
He shook his head. "No, not yet. I'm just gathering information right now. Seeing what he's all about, you know?"
"You find anything interesting out?"
"Not – "
"Hey! Neal! Where are you?!" Ali's voice suddenly cried out. "We've got a visitor you need to meet!"
Neal grinned a little. "In the library!" he called back, turning to the phone again. "Duty calls. I'll call you later Tiana."
"Talk to you later, Neal!"
Neal ended the FaceTime call with Tiana as Ali burst into the room.
"Come on slowpoke! Who the hell were you talking to all the way over here?" Ali said with a laugh. "Mayor Mills-Hood is here."
"My sister," he said, pausing. "The Mayor? Why is she here?"
"Did you miss the name? Mayor Mills-Hood. She comes to visit all the time when she has a break from work… and besides, she's the sheriff's mother-in-law," Ali said. "I think she brought a pan of her famous lasagna so let's hurry up before it's gone!"
Neal could only blink as Ali dragged him into the dining room.
"Ah! There you are Neal," Captain Hood said. "I'd like to introduce you to Regina Mills-Hood. My wife and the mayor of Storybrooke."
Neal's stomach twisted into an uncomfortable bundle of nerves as he held out his hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Madam Mayor."
"And you as well. I just wanted to stop by and thank you for helping to save my grandson from the mines," Regina said, her polite smile dropping into a look of concern. "He's still in the hospital with some lung problems. I'm not sure if it was the smoke from when the tunnel started to collapse or something else but..."
Neal frowned. "I'm so sorry Mayor Mills. I hope he makes a quick recovery." The kid hadn't looked good when they'd pulled him out, and he hated to find out that his suspicion had been right.
Regina nodded a little. "Thank you for your concern Mr. Cassidy. The family truly does appreciate it," Regina let out a small sigh and rubbed at her arm. "My step-daughter hasn't slept all that well. I'm glad she has the support of the school and the community."
She looked around the station again and gave Neal another polite smile. "I won't keep you any longer. The boys here love the lasagna so you'd better hurry and grab a serving. I just wanted to say welcome to Storybrooke."
Neal nodded, letting out a breath when she turned and walked out of the station.
"Well that went better than I thought it would," Ali said, handing him a plate of the steaming lasagna. "You should've seen what happened when Jefferson met Mayor Mills for the first time."
"In my defense, my first time meeting her was at the hospital after we'd put out the fire at the cannery and we had people demanding information. No one warned me that she was the mayor!" Jefferson cut in with a scowl on his face. "It was my first day as well as Victor's so neither of us were prepared for that! We just thought she was a reporter!"
"Sure you did," Ali said with a roll of his eyes.
"Hey! Don't forget, I pulled your ass out of the mine when you were a student," Jefferson scowled.
That got Ali to shut up, and Neal had to hide his laughter behind a cough.
"Anyway… why don't we show you around town? Not that there's much to see but it's the least we could do for a new friend," Jefferson suggested.
"I'd like that. Thanks…" Neal replied with a smile.
The rest of the shift went off without much excitement, and before long, Neal was sandwiched between the two more experienced firefighters, wandering down the streets of Storybrooke.
Ali clapped his arm around Neal's shoulders, pointing at a building in the distance. "That's the animal shelter there. My girlfriend Jasmine works there. She's training to be a vet."
"I'm sure she'll become a great vet," Neal replied awkwardly. He'd only ever had one girlfriend, and it hadn't ended well when he'd caught her cheating the night of prom.
"And what about you, dear Neal? Don't you have a lovely girl or guy back in the Big Easy waiting for you to return?"
Was Jefferson reading his mind? Neal got the distinct feeling that Jefferson was reading his mind. Still, Jefferson and Ali were giving him matching curious, almost puppy dog-like looks, so Neal finally let out a sigh and shook his head.
"No. I'm single. Which is probably for the best, considering the move."
"Ah! Then you'll have plenty of fun in this town!" Jefferson said with a wide grin. "But really, you should find a date to the Fireman's Ball."
Neal furrowed his brow. "The what?"
"No one warned you about that? Honestly, it's like they dropped you in the deep end without any floaties! The Fireman's Ball is the biggest fundraiser for the department. Most of the town usually comes out to party with us. It's in two weeks," Jefferson explained. "The firefighters have the first dance, so everyone has a date."
"That sounds like something out of Harry Potter," Neal said with a slow blink.
"Well, maybe J.K Rowling just stole the idea for the Yule Ball from us."
Ali rolled his eyes. "Yeeeeeah, and I'm Stephen King." He turned to Neal then and gave him a grin. "A date isn't necessary, Neal, but Jefferson is right that most of the town shows up for it. Even if you don't have a date that night you'll be able to find someone to dance with there. But no, we don't get the first dance. Captain Hood and Mayor Mills-Hood do. Jefferson just has this strange habit of trying to play matchmaker for the town."
"Oh." Neal had to admit, he was a bit surprised. Most of the people that he knew that ever tried to play matchmaker were women. "Well I'm sure the Fireman's Ball will be a fun night regardless," he said with a smile.
Ali shrugged. "Truthfully, I think Jasmine enjoys it more than I do. I was never one to like to get dressed up and stuff but Jasmine grew up in that sort of world so she's used to it. I'd rather not have my shirt buttoned all the way up to my neck."
Neal laughed. "That's a fair point."
Ali grinned at him. "Seriously, don't worry about Jefferson. He's harmless. Usually." Ali ducked a playful smack from Jefferson before continuing. "C'mon, why don't we head to Granny's for dinner?"
"Ahh sorry I'd love to, but it's open house at the school and I have to go meet Grace's teachers," Jefferson said, smacking his forehead. "Pricilla and Victor would kill me if I was late. Even if Grace told me she doesn't want us there. I'll see you later."
"Pricilla? Grace?" Neal asked with a small frown as Jefferson wandered off down the street.
Ali nodded. "Pricilla is Jefferson's ex-wife. Grace is their daughter. The three of them have a great relationship so they all do the school stuff together. Even if it embarrasses Grace."
Neal laughed. "Just like any father would, right?"
Ali shrugged as they wandered into the diner and found a booth. "Wouldn't know, really. My dad was kind of… not the greatest guy in the world. He was a thief. Started bringing me up to be the same. One day he found out about the mines and heard that there could be gold or jewels or some bullshit like that down there. He was too big, so I went down. The mine closed in on me, like what happened the day you started here. Jefferson saved me. Took me under his wing. Dad was arrested and he's doing time in the state prison. I haven't seen him since. Frankly, I don't want to."
He stared at the man. "Shit Ali. I'm sorry, that's horrible."
"It's fine. It's in the past now."
Neal scratched the back of his neck before smiling gratefully as the blonde waitress stepped over to their table. Oh, it was the same waitress he'd had the day he'd arrived to town.
"Emma! I'm surprised you're working," Ali said with a small frown. "How's Robert?"
Emma only shrugged. "Spending time in the hospital gets to be a bit much. I can't really stand to be near my mom as she cries so much. Too depressing. At least I have school and work to take my mind off it all." Her face screwed up into one of distress. "You guys know what you want yet?"
"Chicken sandwich. You know how I like it. And a coke." Ali said immediately.
"Uh… I'll take a burger. Medium. With lettuce, tomato and grilled onions… with fries and a lemonade," Neal told her as her pen scribbled along the pad.
Emma nodded, giving them a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "Sure. I'll get that right out for you guys."
Neal looked at Ali with a small frown as Emma walked over to the kitchen. "So… she's related to the kid we saved?"
"Yeah. Emma's the oldest of the Nolan family. There's three total – Emma, Robert and Eva. Good kids, all of them. When they aren't going down into the mines of course."
He snorted in amusement, and before long, Emma was back with the order, sliding the two plates  in front of the men with a polite smile. "There you guys go. Anything else you need?"
Neal looked at the ketchup bottle she'd passed over to him and bit his lip. "Yeah actually, if it isn't too much trouble, I'd like a small side of mayo, if that's alright."
Emma gave him a more genuine smile, a small chuckle and a wink following. "It's not the weirdest thing anyone's ever asked me to get for them. This is no problem. Be right back."
When she returned, he grinned, taking the ketchup and squirting a fair amount of it in with the mayo. "Thanks Emma. Growing up in the Big Easy, you can't have fries without fry sauce." Of course, he knew this wouldn't even remotely compare to Tiana's, but it was better than nothing.
"Huh."
Neal looked up in surprise to find Emma still standing next to him. "Uh… something wrong?"
"No, no, nothing's wrong exactly. It's just… I haven't seen anyone in town mix mayo and ketchup mixed together except for Mr. Gold."
Her words shot through him like a blast of cold water, and he masked his shock with a sip of lemonade before trying to give her a casual shrug. "Well… Mr. Gold has good tastes then. Maybe's visited the Big Easy himself and got a taste for it," he said with a small shrug, busying himself with his fries again. "Thanks again Emma.  Gives me a small comfort of New Orleans."
The blonde let out a soft giggle. "Well, you guys enjoy. I'll be back to check on you."
He wasn't sure what to make of this new information about his father at all, but it did give him a small bit of comfort to know that he had something in common with the man.
…And he had to admit, that little giggle Emma let out was pretty damn cute.
Zelena looked up from her book, listening and watching Neal Cassidy carefully. He did fit the basics as to what Baelfire Gold would be now nineteen years after his disappearance, but of course, it was very basic information… but the information about the ketchup-mayo combination could have been something.
It was a speck, but sometimes in the personal investigative business, all she had were specks. Sometimes they panned out, but many times they didn't.
She didn't often go out and do investigations of her own anymore, being a social worker with a handful of investigators of her own meant she was stuck with paperwork most of the time, but with Aiden Gold, it was different. Tumultuous as their relationship was, when it came to a missing child, Zelena Mills had promised to do her best to find him. Especially in the way Milah and Killian had just up and disappeared from the town.
So she observed, sipping at her tea and making small notes in her notebook, until the two firefighters departed, and then, when she knew no one else was looking, Zelena rose from her seat and slid Neal Cassidy's straw into the plastic bag she had on her.
Specks were nice, but if she could get a fire burning, well… that would be even better.
Slipping  a tip on her table, Zelena quietly paid for her meal and made her way to her car, dialing a number on her phone as she did so.
"Yes?"
"Walsh my darling. I need a favor."
Walsh let out a heavy sigh on the other end of the line. "Well, that's never a good sign. What is it now?"
"I'm working a case for Aiden Gold."
"An even worse sign."
"It's his son. He's suspicious about the new firefighter."
"Oh? And what do you have cooked up in your head in order to help him, Zelena?"
"I have a straw Mr. Cassidy used. Will that be sufficient to get DNA off of?"
Zelena could hear Walsh's fingers tapping against a desk, the man letting out another sigh. "I'll try the straw, but you know it's easier when it's a lock of hair. But I'll do my best on it."
"I know you will, Walsh."
Ending the call, Zelena slipped her phone into her pocket and drove the short distance to the lab. Sure, it was shady, considering she could have just gone to the forensics lab that the sheriff used, but Walsh got results faster than them, with little red tape. For Zelena, it was better that way.
Especially when one was working for Aiden Gold.
Zelena slipped easily through the halls of the lab, giving Walsh a sly smile. "Hello darling," she said with a smirk. "Thanks for agreeing to see me on such short notice."
"I always make time for you, Zelena," Walsh replied, giving her a weary nod. "For this town's sake, I hope you've got something. The results should be in in about a month."
She bristled. "A month?! Walsh, you know this needs to be done faster than the police!"
"Yeah, I know that Zelena, but the police are kind of breathing down my neck right now so I need to be careful. I know this case is important. I know it involves Gold. But I can't put my life and career at risk like this."
Well, he had her there. Even though she was a private investigator, she was still at the mercy of David Nolan, and even though Robert was in the hospital and he'd be busy, that didn't stop him from making sure she was in line.
"Okay. Just tell me when the results are in," she relented, turning and making her way out of the office with a heavy sigh. She paused when she felt her phone buzz as she got to her car, eyes widening when she saw she had a text from her daughter, Margot. She'd been traveling for so long and Zelena hadn't seen her in months. Her heart thundered against her chest as she opened the text anxiously.
Hey Mom. I'm home.

How did your dog react when you took them home for the first time?
Tumblr media
Author: Vernon Mclean
We finally took the first step: we got our own puppy! "My first dog (and best friend) was Rex, a sweet, playful pup. I knew it would be labor intensive and a big obligation, but that “holy crap” feeling I had when I first picked him up was just a subtle hum of the screaming siren of uneasiness I’ve come to know a few moments after.
When we prepared his crate for him, my son tied his leash to the leg of a chair, he did not like it to sit still and tried to get up and run towards a ball or something, and the next thing TERRIFIED to find that the chair was CHASING HIM:)
How did your dog react when you took them home for the first time?
Anyway I’m including some photos of his first day,,,, Tanya Gorelova took these photos:)

Doing the right thing:)
Anyway, I’ve learned some things and also managed to put together a few important points to take note of….
If you are thinking of bringing a puppy into your home, you may have encountered these questions: how old should a puppy be when you pick it up and what will you do with it before it receives all vaccines against infectious diseases?
If you are buying a dog, do not take it before it is 8 weeks old
For starters, as a partial answer to the first question, clearly and loudly: if you are buying a dog, don’t let the breeder (in this case it should be written in quotes) force you to take the puppy home before he is 8 weeks old. And don't be fooled, so in the desire to get cheaper, take the dog from someone who just "punches" the dog and does not care at all about the welfare of these animals.
The calculation is very clear here:
When they are 4-5 weeks old, puppies become much more physically and financially demanding, so a person who sells dogs just for the sake of making money then eventually wants to get rid of increasingly demanding puppies.
However, puppies that are prematurely separated from their mother and the rest of the litter, as adult dogs, show much more (serious) behavioral problems than puppies that remain with their mother and siblings for at least 8 weeks and in a crucial period of socialization seen lasts up to 4 months of age) were properly socialized . This is shown by many researches conducted at world scientific institutions.
What if you decide to adopt an abandoned or discarded puppy?
If you have decided to adopt a dog from a shelter or save a puppy found abandoned and thrown on the road, it is a very commendable gesture and you should not be discouraged by not knowing how this puppy spent the earliest months of life, but you should definitely leave as soon as possible to some organized form of dog training (for example to some quality individual or group course).
Don't wait for a "suitable" moment because the right moment is exactly when you brought the dog home. The longer you wait, even if there are no behavioral problems at first, the harder it will be to solve the problems once they arise.
And what about vaccines?
You’ve probably heard from someone before (probably your vet) that a puppy should be in isolation from other dogs and the outside world until it receives all the vaccines against infectious canine diseases (i.e., by about 4-5 months of age).
You definitely need to be careful where you take your puppy, but it is by no means good to keep him in isolation from all living beings, all experiences and stimuli. Infectious canine diseases are often deadly and unfortunately are very common in some areas. But keep this in mind: your puppy will not receive all the vaccines until he is about 4 months old. If you wait until then, the opportunity to socialize your dog properly will already be missed.
And not only that: according to the American Veterinary Society for Animal Behavior (AVSAB), behavioral problems, not contagious canine diseases, are the leading cause of death in dogs under 3 years of age ! (This refers to the fact that in the U.S., more dogs are killed each year due to behavioral problems than are killed by infectious canine diseases). The same veterinary society recommends that dogs be introduced to new places, people and other dogs before receiving all vaccines against infectious canine diseases (ie, puppy owners are advised not to keep puppies in isolation from the outside world while receiving these vaccines).
What does all this actually mean for puppy owners?
It means you need to be careful where you take your puppy before he receives all the vaccines, but not that you need to keep him locked up in the house. For example, going to dog parks, pet stores, and other places where a lot of dogs come that we don’t know if they’re vaccinated and if they’re healthy is not a good idea. Instead, get your puppy used to driving with you in the car; introduce him to many children and adults; take him to hang out with friends who have healthy, vaccinated dogs and other pets accustomed to dogs; go with him to the mall (at a time when it is not crowded); walk with him around in your backyard; enter a course for puppies in a verified place that you know is safe for puppies, etc. But always make sure that all these experiences for your puppy are positive experiences. Proper socialization of a dog is a pleasant experience, not something that will traumatize him for the rest of his life.
Either way, don’t wait for the dog to cross the 16-week limit to start socializing, because you’re already very late by then. In the case of proper early socialization, time plays a key role. Also see more Interesting Articles: Here
Don’t make these 15 Mistakes with your New Puppy:
1. DON'T LET your puppy eat when he wants to
There is a very fine line between new puppies to make them feel comfortable at home with you and let them do whatever they want and get into bad habits and one of the main pitfalls to avoid this view concerns food.
Food and food are arguably the biggest motivators when it comes to dogs and can help you achieve everything from successful training to encouraging a shy dog out of its shell to help your puppy commit to you. . a coin to buy your puppy happiness is a big but also easy to make mistake!
Your puppy should have reliable feeding hours with his food divided into appropriate portions and the food should be measured for them just every day. You should also work on calculating how much fun your dog can have in a day - taking into account both the calories and the value of the reward.
Bribing your puppy with too many treatments or providing food wherever they ask will not only make your life more difficult, but it will also make your puppy worse.
2. Delay in training
You are probably already thinking about training your puppy and how it will work when you first bring it home - but training a dog is not like sending a child to school for the first time and is not something that has to start at a set time. and on a set date! The training should start from the first day your puppy comes home - not from picking them up in a class or field and performing them through exercises, but in terms of letting them know what they are and are not you are also allowed to correct your puppy to praise them appropriately as they begin to learn.
3. Do not spend enough time around other dogs
An astonishing number of new puppy owners may be reluctant to encourage their puppies to socialize with other dogs as much as they really should, believing the puppy is too small, too small, or the other dogs are too big and noisy and thus a potential danger to your puppy.
However, once your puppy pulls out the eighth after vaccinations, you should start taking precautionary measures to allow them to meet and communicate with other dogs at every possible opportunity and try to ensure that this is a good mix of different dogs that include many chances to meet strange dogs.
Puppies learn as much, if not more, from other dogs as they do from humans, and avoiding socializing is one of the biggest mistakes a new puppy owner can make.
4. Unintentionally allowing unreasonable fears
Because puppies are small, cute, and sensitive, they tend to trigger protective instincts in humans, which often translate into a desire to wrap them in cotton and protect them from the world! However, just as this approach is counterproductive when it comes to children - for example, if your child is playing on their knee, causing a lot of noise it can cause them to cry, minimizing and dealing with it, as there is no greater chance to encourage them to continue normally.
The same goes for puppies - if they are scared, shy or nervous, or something happens that makes them wary, do not push their shower with sympathy - this is the fastest way to amplify their fears and create a nervous adult. dog.
Instead, behave normally and this will reassure your puppy that there is nothing to fear and encourage them to continue normally.
5. Tell your puppy when they do not understand something
So go down in the morning to find that your puppy has made a mess on the floor… your instinctive reaction may be to tell them, but bite your tongue! First of all, if a young puppy is ruining things or fishing indoors, it may be due to a lack of understanding or because you have not met your needs in this regard - and also, your puppy has no idea what they were wrong if you told them after the incident.
Do not make a big fuss, but clear up immediately and see ways you can avoid the problem that will arise again in the future.
6. DO NOT leave the puppy home alone
Book a holiday for at least a week or two to ensure your puppy gets used to his new home. The puppy should initially be fed four times a day. A small dog also needs to potty train more often. Always take your puppy out after waking up, playing, eating and drinking.
7. DO NOT stretch the loneliness But must get used to it
Get your dog used to being alone during the first few weeks. For example, you can go to another room first. Exercise when the puppy is already tired and your pup would be calmer.
Leave your pup a treat, say "Wait!" and go away for a moment. Many times the treat will sooth him and your pup will go to sleep after eating. When you come back, go back to your normal chores. Most importantly, there is no big difference between the first arrival and the next day.
If the dog keeps making noise when alone, go play with him, go for a walk, do activity and repeat the exercise so many times that loneliness begins to disappear.
8. DO NOT think that learning to be tidy happens all at once
Few dogs learn to be tidy all at once. The dog cannot be managed in the event of an emergency when it happens, so it should not be penalized for peeing on the floor.
Do not pay too much attention to the mess, but rather clean it up and continue. The dog likes attention, whether it’s positive or negative. The dog also does not remember the booboo done an hour ago. It looks repentant because it reads its owner’s scornful behavior.
9. DO NOT put the dog on a leash immediately
The dog doesn’t immediately realize that while on the leash, it has to obediently paddle alongside its owner. Teach your dog to keep an eye on you and walk close to you first, only then turn your attention to the leash. Also teach the dog to walk past his companions and people without making a fuss. Other dogs are found in a safe place without a leash.
10. NOT allow the puppy to wean in your arms
Getting used to a person's bosom and to calm him down will make it easier in the future, for example, to visit a veterinarian. Teach your puppy that you can only get out of your arms when the rattle has stopped. When the puppy is calm in your arms, keep your grip gentle & comfortable. If the puppy is rattling, tighten the grip.
However, do not hurt your pup. Also don’t instantly let him down. Let your puppy down after he has been rattling for at least ten seconds. Often the puppy needs dozens of exercises to get it right.
11. DO NOT forget to investigate health issues on a timely manner
Once the dog is already at home, it is too late to start figuring out health / vaccine issues. Find out in advance what vaccines your dog needs to be given.
The dog is given the first vaccinations at three months of age and booster vaccinations one month after the first vaccinations. After a year, booster vaccinations will be given, followed by veterinary instructions.
12. DO NOT leave valuables in the open, visible & accessible to your new friend
Hide any items that your dog may break when raging. Also remove dangerous items, such as cords, that your dog should not chew on. Keep the environment safe for your dog.
13. DO NOT let your dog rage without limits
A dog needs to be set clear boundaries of what it’s allowed to do and what it’s not. Together agreed rules must be followed by all family members. If it is agreed that the dog is not allowed to jump on the couch, no one will let the dog jump on the couch.
The dog gets confused if one member of the family lets go and the other scolds. When speaking to a dog, one word must also be used. If one says "No!" and another “Stop!”, the dog will get confused.
14. DO NOT forget to teach good healing practices
If the dog bounces and rages when you arrive, you yourself have taught it how to greet you. If you don’t want your dog to jump against yourself, don’t give your dog attention.
Turn your back and look at the ceiling. When the dog behaves, notice the dog. It gradually learns that the bouncing & jumping is not worth it.
15. DO NOT write off expert help
Breeders often give good advice on how to train your dog. Experts from different dog breeds can be found, for example, on the websites of Kennel Club’s.

Dear Friend,
If you want your ferret to be happy and safe and live double the average ferret lifespan —
If you don’t have a clue what to do to when your ferret bites people or goes to the bathroom outside the litter box (even though they’re supposed to be trained) —
If you’d like your ferret to be overjoyed and greet you when you get home from work —
— then this could be the most exciting letter you’ll ever read about ferrets. Here’s why…
My Amazingly Simple, Step-By-Step Ferret Manual Is Unlike Anything You’ve Ever Seen
Learn everything you need to know to have a long life with a well-behaved ferret who’s pleasant to be around and feels affection toward you.
You see, I’ve been a small animal trainer and breeder for a few decades now, and the techniques I’ve developed have become something of a legend among ferret fanciers.
And recently I finished packaging up my secrets into a guide I call Find Out About Ferrets: The Complete Guide To Turning Your Ferret Into The Happiest, Best-Behaved, and Healthiest Pet In The World!
I wrote it in plain, conversational English that’s easy to follow — even if you’ve never owned a ferret before and don’t know the first thing about them (other than you might want one).
As a complete system, this guide will reveal to you everything you want to know about ferrets. That’s why…
You’ll Discover Secrets In My Guide That Will Change Your Ferret In A Big, Big Way
Lizzie, a recent client, called me in tears. After only 2 short months, she was about to take Janie, her adorable albino ferret, back to the shelter. Her call to me was a last resort (as they always are in my small animal consulting practice).
At first Lizzie had a great life with Janie but by the end she was afraid all those horrible things she’d heard about ferrets were coming true.
You see, Janie made her apartment stink–not only did Janie himself smell worse than a skunk, but it seemed like she pooped everywhere except her litter box.
On top of that, she would always chase people’s feet, trying to nip them. Lizzie’s friends stopped coming to visit for fear of being attacked!
But the final straw came when Janie chewed through an electrical cord. “I feel like a bad ferret mom,” Janie told me, “and I’m ready to give up.”
Do These “Downsides” Of Owning A Ferret Sound Familiar?
If you’re like many ferret owners, you’re looking for (immediate) answers that are hard to find since most of the complete pet care guides deal only with dogs or cats.
Maybe you too are frustrated by a ferret who smells bad, poops and pees all over the place, and gets aggressive and bites you and your houseguests…
Or you don’t know the health problems you should be aware of, or what to do in an emergency…
Or you’re not sure if you’re feeding him the right foods, how to “ferret-proof” your house, or whether you’re giving him a good life in his cage…
You are not alone.
So I told Lizzie my guide would her teach everything she wanted to know about making her ferret into the perfect companion for life.
She said she was skeptical, because she’d already done a lot of Internet research and found conflicting information and lots of sites that didn’t answer her questions.
So I Told Her To Pick Just One Secret From My Guide And See What Happens.
Lizzie figured she had nothing to lose so she zoomed to page 35. It revealed the number one reason ferrets smell and how you can fix it in five minutes flat (and no, it has nothing to do with “descenting” surgery or giving your ferret a bath).
She didn’t think it could be that easy, but before she knew it the lingering odor in the apartment was gone!
Her husband Rudy was so thrilled he turned right to chapter 11 on training your ferret and teaching him manners. There he discovered the 7 silent techniques that “magnetically” make your ferret want to obey your every command. (Page 91)
Frankly these techniques didn’t work overnight… they took a day and a half.
Since then, Janie’s stopped nipping (which was a huge relief for their toes!) — thanks to their discovery of how to prevent your ferret from biting you using these guaranteed methods proven to work. (Page 104)
And they’ve never had a problem ever again.
These days their friends have no trouble visiting us. And Lizzie and Rudy enjoy how nice Janie is… and you should see how impressed they are when we have Janie do the neat tricks they learned in my guide.
I’ll show you how it can be so easy to care for ferrets in a minute, but first…
The Secrets Of Having A Cuddly, Playful, Well-Behaved And Long-Lived Ferret… Without Having To Spend A Lot Of Cash… And Without Having To Do Much Work!
Rather than having to go through a struggle or have to hire a high-priced consultant, you can simply read what’s in my guide and immediately discover all the advanced secrets contained within…
Some people call it the lazy person’s way to easy ferret care. It’ll save you so much time and worry (not to mention money) that you can start enjoying your ferret right away with zero worries.
Here’s a quick look at just a few of the valuable techniques I’ll share with you:
End poop problems for good. Did you know you accidentally kill the instinct your ferret naturally feels for using the litter box? (99% of ferret parents do it — here’s how to reverse it in under 7 seconds flat). (Page 101.)
How to make sure your ferret will never nip you again. I’ve developed a breakthrough anti-nip technology called TED — and it’s so simple and fun, even your child could do it. (Page 103)
The 7 secrets to making the relationship between your child and ferret a good one. (Page 62)
The “magic trick” of bonding you can start using with your ferret as soon as today that will make your ferret “cuddlier than a teddy bear!” (Page 100)
Did 2 pet ferrets all of a sudden become 13? You’ll discover everything you need to know about breeding ferrets. I lead you step by step through everything from mating… to caring for the pregnant jill (female ferret)… to caring for the kits (babies)… to placing the kits in loving homes once they’re ready. (Chapter 13)
Plus… Learn Exactly What To Feed Your Ferret So He’ll Double His Lifespan.
There’s a powerful new diet developed by biologists that can take the average ferret lifespan of 7 years and increase it to 12 to 15 years.
The best part is that this miraculous diet uses food you can get from your local grocery store. (Page 66.)
Look, it’s very important that you feed your ferret the right foods. This subject can be frustrating (it certainly is for everyone who comes to me), because everyone gives conflicting advice. But your fuzzy’s diet is colossally important — feed your ferret the wrong thing and he can become obese… or even get cancer.
That’s why I provide a complete Ferret Cuisine Guide (see Chapter 7) that will reveal everything you need to know — and then tells you what exactly to do. It’s like having your own ferret expert right there at your beck and call.
You’ll learn about FFAT, which will solve all your diet questions. What is FFAT? It is the 4 unbreakable rules of what you must look for in food labels. You’ll find out what I’m talking about on page 64.
No matter what you want to know about your furball’s diet, you’ll get expert help with:
Which foods to avoid because your ferret can’t digest them. (Page 64)
Whether a high quality kitten food is truly OK for your fuzzball. (Page 65)
Which foods to avoid because your ferret can’t digest them. (Page 64)
The truth about ferret supplements and hairball remedies. (Page 72)
Treats your ferret likes… and that are good for him. (Page 69)
Is it okay to feed your little guy fruit or not? You’ll find out the truth. (Page 70)
That’s Just The Beginning. You’ll Also Discover…
Whether it’s true that ferrets are better off not kept in cages. (Page 47)
An 8-point checklist that will tip you off about whether a ferret breeder is humane and cares about raising healthy ferrets or a crook who’s just in it for the money. (This subject is highly controversial and is definitely not for everyone. Please do not get my guide if you’re offended by some truly raw straight talk about your fellow human beings.) (Page 38)
The 7 crucial rules to rate a ferret’s health before taking him home. Get any of these wrong and it can cause you a ton of heartache… and high vet bills… later on. (Page 29)
How to stop your ferret from using the bathroom in his food bowl ever again.
Which reminds me…
Did You Know There’s An Easy Way To Reduce The Amount Of Cleaning Around The Litter Box And Food Dish By 70% To 80%?
Ferrets can be party animals who love to fling around food and litter like they’re confetti. So you don’t have to be a math whiz to know that keeping the mess to a minimum means you do much less work!
I’ll give you the step by step instructions… as well as showing you places you can get the items you need easily and cheaply (and no, it’s not from the local pet store)… on page 45.
You know, after all that Lizzie and Rudy learned, I teased Rudy that he used to not even like ferrets. But today he and Janie are like soul mates.
And she’s so clean now.
When Janie has to go potty, she goes in the litter box every time. Lizzie and Rudy used to have to clean up a mess every day no matter what they tried, but now that’s in the past.
I’ll Also Let You In On Secrets Like…

True or false: the cage you have now is too small. (How much space does a ferret really need not only for survival… but to be happy?) (Page 46)
A 1-minute chore most ferret owners neglect, causing their ferret to swallow harmful bacteria. (Page 70)
If your fuzzy has been using his litter box consistently for awhile but then suddenly stops, here’s what to do. (Page 102)
Regular bathing as long as it’s done correctly can reduce the odor by over 90%. Check out page 76 for my simple 8-step bathing system.

How to ferret proof your house using these 9 success strategies, so that you’ll keep your little guy stay safe as he explores. Of course ferrets don’t live forever, but there’s nothing sadder than hearing your kids cry as you bury their ferret who chewed through wires and got electrocuted — and it was all your fault. I will show you how to prevent this from happening. (Page 51)

Don’t Just Take My Word For It… Look At What Other Readers Have Said…
“I owe my ferret Furball’s life and my eternal gratitude to Colin Patterson for his Find Out About Ferrets guide. When Furball stopped eating for a week and became listless, I became hysterical as he kept losing weight. I cried over what could possibly be wrong with my little guy as he seemed to be slowly dying.
Then I came across Colin’s guide during a web search, got it instantly and began poring through it to see if I could find out what was wrong.
It turns out that Furball’s symptoms indicated he’d swallowed something he shouldn’t have. Intestinal blockages are common for ferrets, since they have a bad habit of putting everything they can into their mouths, and Fuzzball loves to tear apart my socks and EAT them. The solution according to Colin is a type of laxative for ferrets. A visit to the vet confirmed that Colin was right. Now Furball is completely well again, and I feel so much better!
Needless to say, I feel Find Out About Ferrets is a must read for all ferret owners.”
– Addie Van Zwoll Kalamazoo, Michigan
“Hi Colin,
As a confused first-time ferret mama, your instructions were brand new to me, so I learned a lot. Now Slinky has stopped biting me. If it were not for your help, this ferret would have been back to the shelter.”
– Lisa Molyneux Montgomery, Alabama
“Colin,
I found your book full of terrific information that was helpful for me as a new ferret owner. Your book was comprehensive, well written and organized for easy reading. I’m a big animal lover and know quite a bit about many animals, however your book would be valuable for a first time ferret owner or someone who already has a ferret amd is looking for additional information on their care and behavior. Thanks for writing the book!”
– Gwen Edmunds Albuquerque, NM
How Much?
Well, let’s start with this: how much would you pay to have a joyful and wonderful life with your (soon-to-be) well-behaved ferret?
How much would it be worth to you to make his life as good as it can be because you’ll know how to take care of him?
How much would it be worth to be able to extend the lifespan of your ferret by 5 years or more, since you’ll know what to feed him, what to do in an emergency, and how to keep him safe in your house?
Well?
If you’re like most ferret lovers, the answer is probably “a lot.”
Would it be worth $500 to know that overnight you can have your ferret stop all nipping and biting… no longer smelling bad or pooping outside the litter box… living in the most comfortable ferret house… and eating the healthiest, most delicious diet possible… to live as long as they can?
Of course you know that I’m about to tell you it doesn’t cost $500. That’s not what I’m asking you.
I’m asking you: if I could show you how to have a ferret that’s happy, healthy, well-behaved, and gives you tons of affection… would that be worth $500?
You and I are ferret lovers; we both know the answer is, “OF COURSE!”
So when I tell you that I’m only going to charge you a modest investment of just $27 for my guide — and that you can be reading it 2 minutes from right now (even if it’s 1 AM!) — you’re going to just go ahead and order, right?

Being Alone, Bones, and Cats: ID 25663, 5 Yrs., 64 lbs, Manhattan Kin TO BE KILLED – 4/27/2018 He’s all happy manners, affectionate snuggles and a generous heart! King is the KING of Hearts <3 So its really unfortunate that despite his glowing owner notes, the ACC is not giving this boy a chance. He has only ever known the love of his parent who he built his life around. They have nothing but wonderful things to say — loves to meet new people, happy and outgoing, never guards his toys (he thinks if you touch them it is a game!) and if you touch his food he will just keep eating. Dogs are not themselves at the shelter. By rights, this sweet boy should be Experience rated, but because he is stressed, he is New Hope Rescue Only. Remember, he is happy, he is sweet, he is a good boy. He has stolen the hearts of all the volunteers so there is only one heart left to steal — YOURS. PLEASE SAVE SWEET KING. As a FAVORITE volunteer writes: “King's the kind of guy you can't help but love and seems custom-made for stardom with his big smile, perfectly chunky body, playful personality and happy manners and just get a load of those amazing markings–be still my heart! From the moment he arrived this affectionate boy was all about snuggles, approaching the intake counselor with tail wags, hugs and kisses and on our first date he was more than happy to lean into my legs and be massaged all over. King is full of energy and loves to get down and (literally) dirty when playing but he acts the gentleman when it's required, sitting politely on command, taking treats softly and showing off a model-worthy head tilt for photos. In playgroup with fellow dogs he's bouncy and social so would love a routine where he can spend time running and playing with an equally energetic pack, either at home or in the park. His previous owner tells us his favorite toys were balls, plushies and bones and that he loved games of fetch and tug too. King is crate trained (with an open door) and well behaved when left home alone and in addition to sit he also knows commands for come and leave it. Best of all, this smart boy is bilingual in both Spanish and English! King is one of a kind and he's ready to start a new rule of snuggles and silliness with a loving family by his side. Visit our Manhattan Care Center to crown him King of your heart today!” If you can foster or adopt him, please PRIVATE MESSAGE our page or email us at [email protected]. KING, ID # 25663, @ 5 Yrs. Old, 64.4 lbs. of Love Manhattan acc, Large Mixed Breed, Black / White, Unaltered Male Owner Surrender Reason: Moving out of the Country Shelter Assessment Rating: New Hope Rescue Only Intake Behavior Rating: AT RISK NOTE: King is at risk for behavior reasons. We are seeking New Hope placement for him due to his resource guarding. King is overweight and has diarrhea, but appears to be an otherwise healthy.dog. INTAKE NOTE – DATE OF INTAKE, 4/20/2018: King approached me with a wagging tail and smelled me. He allowed me to pet and scan him. He jumped up onto me and gave kisses. He allowed me to collar him and listened to the cue sit. OWNER SURRENDER NOTES – BASIC INFORMATION: King is a 5 year old white and black medium mixed breed dog. He was given to his previous owner 1 month ago because his owner moved away. He was surrendered because his previous owner is leaving the country for a while and cannot take him with him. He previously lived with 1 adult. Around strangers King is friendly and outgoing and exuberant at play with adults. King has never interacted with children. When King sees other dogs he barks and pulls towards them he smells them when he interacts and is respectful. King has not interacted with cats. King keeps eating if his food bowl is touched. He becomes playful if a treat or toy is taken from him. King has never attempted to bite a person or animal. He is partially housetrained and has a very high energy level. King isn’t bothered by loud noises. He is friendly if he is held or restrained, disturbed while sleeping, given a bath, if his paws are touched, or if an unfamiliar person approached his previous home or owner. He has never had any medical issues. King has not been to a vet but has no known injuries or health concerns. For a New Family to Know: King is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, and excitable. When his previous owner came to visit him, he would follow him around. He likes to play with balls, stuffed toys and bones. His favorite games were fetch and tug. He was kept indoors only and at night he slept him his crate that had a bed and the door was always open. He ate Benefit dry food. He is house trained but had accidents indoors. When left alone indoors he was well behaved. He knows the cues sit, come, and leave it in both English and Spanish. He was walked once a day. He pulls on leash. SHELTER ASSESSMENT – DATE OF ASSESSMENT, 4/22/2018: Look:: 1. Dog's eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. Allows head to be held loosely in Assessor's cupped hands. Sensitivity:: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag:: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft 'popping' of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Paw squeeze 1:: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Paw squeeze 2:: 2. Dog quickly pull back. Flank squeeze 1:: Item not conducted Flank squeeze 2:: Item not conducted Toy:: 4. Dog freezes and/or growls. Summary:: King quickly approached the assessor in the assessment room with a soft body and jumped up in a social manner. He jumped up a lot and was a bit mouthy during the assessment, but remained social and allowed all handling. When in possession of the toy, he became tense and growled when the assess-a-hand touched it. PLAYGROUP NOTES – DOG TO DOG SUMMARIES: Summary (1):: 4/21: When introduced off leash to female dogs, King engages in bouncy play. Summary (2):: 4/22-23: King engages in play with intent to mount male and female dogs. Summary (3):: 4/24: King engages in play with female and select male dogs. When attempting to greet a larger, unaltered male, King growls and is not introduced off leash. ENERGY LEVEL:: King is described as having a very high level of activity. He is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: 4/25 Update, King has been observed to resource guard food items in his kennel and will begin to growl if any attempts to approach are made; with lingering approach, King has been observed to lunge and snap towards the kennel bars. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to a potential for resource guarding and a potential for defensive aggression seen at the care center, we recommend an adult only home. New Hope Only: Though he has been human social in the care centers, King has displayed resource guarding behavior on multiple occasions in the care center. During his assessment King became tense and growled when his toy was approached. He has also displayed this behavior in the kennel as well if approached when engaged with a food item, rapidly escalating to lunging and snapping. Based on the rapid escalation and propensity to cause harm (deliver a bite), the behavior department believes King is not an appropriate candidate for public adoption at this time. Should he present challenges outside of the care center, guidance from a professional trainer or qualified veterinary behaviorist is highly recommended. Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Basic manners/poor impulse control,Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: On his assessment, King froze and growled when the assess-a-hand touched the toy he was in possession of. For this reason, we advise against ever removing items from King's possession without safely trading for an item or greater or equal value. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended to aid in safely managing/modifying this behavior in a new home environment. Basic manners/poor impulse control: King jumps up a lot on people. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Leave it", "Sit/Stay", "Down" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: King has shown some mouthiness in the care center. Little pressure is applied, but this is a behavior that should be extinguished through training alternate behaviors and lack of reward (ex. walking away whenever King's teeth make contact with skin). Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: During a medical exam, King froze when his head was touched and then began growling and snapped. We do not know if this behavior will occur in other settings, but if it does guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is recommended to assess behavior after decompression in a new home environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing or exposing Sasha to new and unfamiliar situations. MEDICAL NOTES: 22/04/2018: DVM Intake Exam. Andrew Bogut, Animals, and Click: Woof AVERAGE RATED for good Behavior anny Handseme, sweet, secial. fun, dog friendly Love me Love ny dog @manhattan acc waitina 4 LOVE **** TO BE KILLED - 9/6/2018 **** OH C'MON! WHO WOULDN'T LOVE DANNY?! Look at that handsome face and amazing pittie smile. What's more, he's a rockstar with an awesome AVERAGE rating to add to an already-appealing resume. But at high kill shelters, dogs don't get all the time they need to find their happily ever after. At kill shelters, they run out of time and then they are added to the euth list and in New York City they are usually killed if a viable, committed and loving foster or adopter doesn't come for them within 16 hours. We can't allow that to happen to Danny. He's a good looking, happy, social and playful fella who did well in doggy play groups (watch his video and see how simply adorable he is) and just seems like a great pup who enjoys life, a little attention and affection and, of course, good company. Danny's time is up at the Manhattan shelter and he really needs a hero - someone to love him unconditionally and provide him with all the things that make a dog's life great. <3 DANNY@MANHATTAN ACC Hello, my name is Danny My animal id is #40047 I am a male brown dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old, 56 lbs Came into shelter as a agency Aug. 30, 2018 Danny is at risk due to medical condition. A Dream, Being Alone, and Andrew Bogut: Found as a stray Stellar SAFER scoreS Friendly, active, playful. A big brindle bou dreami of a family to love him not all those who wander are lost ld 25024, 2 Yrs., 71 lbs. Manhattarn ****TO BE KILLED 4/19/18**** “Do you remember when we first met? I thought I had wandered into a dream.” Aragorn, Son of Arathorn, J.R.R. Tolkien’s Fellowship of the Ring. His life is a mystery. No one knows where Aragorn called home, and much like the famous “ranger” he was named for, he seems to have wandered from place to place till finally he was found and taken to the Manhattan Center where he charmed everyone he met on intake with his playful ways. He is a gorgeous deep tiger brindle, so rich and burnished that he looks for all the world like he just stepped out of a forest. And just like that fictional ranger, perhaps our Aragorn is really a king in disguise, waiting for the day a family picks him and takes him home with them. Because honestly, this boy should be throning on a soft bed in a home surrounded by a family who adore him. He got stellar safer scores and has been social, friendly, active, wiggly and playful with everyone at the shelter. He did well in playgroup, mostly ignoring the other dogs to wander the pen alone. Aragorn is thought to be a youngster, only 2 years old, and we really want him to lead a long, full life. If you are an experienced foster or adopter, won’t you consider stepping up to save his life? If so, please Private Message our page or email us at [email protected]. ARAGORN, ID # 25024 @ 2 Yrs. Old, 71 lbs. of Love and Loyalty Manhattan acc, Large Mixed Breed, Brown Brindle / White, Unaltered Male I came to the shelter as: STRAY Shelter Assessment Rating: Experienced Home (suitable for a family with previous dog experience) Intake Behavior Rating: 1. Green INTAKE NOTES – DATE OF INTAKE, 4/14/2018: Aragorn was very active, playful and very energetic. He allowed all handling. SHELTER ASSESSMENT – DATE OF ASSESSMENT, 4/12/2018 Look: 1. Dog's eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. Allows head to be held loosely in Assessor's cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends (may need coaxing to approach). Dog is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Paw squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw. Paw squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw. Flank squeeze 1: Item not conducted Flank squeeze 2: Item not conducted Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away. Summary: Aragorn approached the assessor with a soft body. During tag, he focused on the chair in the room, and attempted to bite the chair. He was focused intensely on the chair during tag. When he was given a toy, he intensely focused on that, but as soon as the assess-a-hand came near it he focused on the hand and attempted to grab it. PLAYGROUP NOTES – DOG TO DOG SUMMARIES: Aragorn has engaged in brief play with select female dogs in the care center. He arrived in our care with a male dog, though the relationship between these dogs is unknown. Slow future introductions are recommended between Aragorn and dogs who are respectful or gently playful. Summary (1): 4/12: When introduced off leash to the female greeter dog, Aragorn mostly ignores approach, though intermittently begins to approach and greet. Toward the end of the interaction, Aragorn attempts to mount. Summary (2): 4/13: Aragorn mostly ignores the other dogs in the pen, exploring the yard himself. Aragorn engages in brief bouts of play with a select female dog. Summary (3): 4/14-15: Aragorn engages in brief bouts of play with female dogs. He follows select female dogs, attempting to mount. ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Aragorn so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, he displays a medium level of activity. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below) Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable Recommendations: No young children (under 5) Recommendations comments: No young children: Due to potential resource guarding noted on his assessment, we recommend a home without young children. Potential challenges: Resource guarding Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: Aragorn has focused intensely on objects (a chair, toys, the assess-a-hand). While he has not displayed any typical guarding behavior, we do not know if this focus will extend to other objects or what he will do if pushed to relinquish them. We recommend follow-up in a home environment to determine the extent of guarding Aragorn may have. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Aragorn's mouth, and any time something is removed he should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. He should be taught the "drop" cue and trade-up games. MEDICAL EXAM NOTES: 12/04/2018: DVM Intake Exam, Estimated age: Estimated 2-4 years old based on dentition and overall appearance. Being Alone, Anaconda, and Andrew Bogut: One of the sweetest dogs. Good looking, lively, fun and very smart. Can be shy at first, affectionate, playful, soft and wiggly once warmed up yr öld 58 lbs gger aka Donkey ance @ Staten Island AC oping for a Ch SD# 24024 Me ****TO BE KILLED 4/27/18**** >>> ONE MORE POSTER FOR TIGGER aka DONKEY *** STAFF FAVORITE *** BRINDLE LOVE! <3 Handsome Donkey is looking for his next home. Will it be yours? A volunteer writes: Donkey is one of the sweetest boys I have met! He loves attention from people and sometimes he thinks he is a lap dog and doesn’t realize he weighs 58lbs. Staff members stated he is extremely intelligent and eager to learn commands... Staff Note: Tigger f.k.a. Donkey, was returned after 2 days in his adopter's home. The family dog did not get along with Tigger. Slow introductions and experience are a must when rescuing a shelter dog. They need de-compressing time before they are introduced to the family pet. But here Tigger and Roscoe are having fun in the shelter yard. Tigger is available to rescues only now. Another volunteer writes: Donkey is a very good looking dog ! He’s a fun energetic boy who just needs a good run to release some energy. Please take a look at him ! A staff member notes: Donkey is tired of the shelter life and would love to find a home. He continues to be wonderful with all staff members and is extremely happy out of the kennel. Volunteer Christopher Mancuso notes: That's my T-Donk!!!! <3 We'd play fetch in the ACC yard every day and he'd sit with me. He's a great dog. I pray he finds a good home. A volunteer writes on 04/26/18 I spent some time with Tigger the past couple of days, and each meeting was better than the last. Although Tigger is not the perfect dog, he has shown me his best side lately. Tigger is fearful of new people at first, so a slow approach is recommended when first meeting him. But once he warms up to you, he becomes affectionate, playful, soft and wiggly. Tigger is not a dog to stay indoors all day. He needs his exercise and daily attention. Tigger would fit best in a home with an active lifestyle, and lots of free time to spend with him. A nice yard would benefit Tigger and his new owner, so he can burn off his youthful energy. Tigger usually settles down nicely, after a good run in the shelter yard. His videos show his active and playful side, and then his relaxed, chill side. He loves the water, and it appears he can get along with other dogs with the right introduction. He needs to decompress for a few days, once he's in a new home, if he ever gets another chance. Tigger is so handsome in person, with beautiful markings. I've never seen brindle perfection on a dog like this before. Tigger is not afraid to get his paws dirty or wet, and he will go through puddles instead of walking around them. If Tigger can land in another home, all you will need is a ball or rope toy, and plenty of space. Take this guy to the beach, with ball or stick in hand, and watch this guy shine. Tigger is a very fun dog to hang out with. With the right family and the proper space, Tigger will shine again! Please watch Donkey`s adorable videos: https://www.facebook.com/sishelterdogs/videos/433662927062318/ Together with Puppy Roscoe <3 https://www.facebook.com/sishelterdogs/videos/442661582829119/ https://youtu.be/QPZm3B2Dzag https://youtu.be/Rg3skQnPFx0 https://youtu.be/4-wn4l_KObA https://youtu.be/4hz7lwjFvms Donkey aka Tigger ID# 24024 Staten Island ACC 1 year old, 58 lbs BROWN BRINDLE MALE RETURN after only 2 days/ the family dog did not get along with Donkey / Tigger Intake Date: April 18 Medical Behavior: *** SHELTER ASSESSMENT: RESCUE ONLY *** PROFILE and BEHAVIOR HISTORY Behavior History Behavior Assessment Behavior during intake: Dog seemed alert and curious of surroundings. Summary (1):: When introduced to a large male through a gate, Tigger was wiggly, and curious, often sniffing the other dog. Tigger play bowed through the gate and began to whine. We did not have an appropriate helper dog to do an off leash interaction. Summary (2):: 4/25: When off leash with a male dog, Tigger was polite, social, playful, offered multiple play bows and was very tolerant when the other dog became very rambunctious. Tigger would often lay down and roll over when playing. ENERGY LEVEL:: Tigger is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. Tigger displays a medium to high activity level in the care center. IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: Tigger is barking, seeking attention in his kennel. When attempting to leash, he does try to bolt out. In the yard, Tigger is high energy, playing with toys, running around and seeking handlers attention. During an enrichment session in the lobby, Tigger was very social with all handlers. He often sits for treats and loves to ply fetch with plush toys and balls. Tigger is easy to leash but does avoid going back into his kennel but is easily coaxed with treats. 4/7/18: During an interaction with an adopter and their children, Tigger started hard barking, pulling towards them, followed by showing some teeth. 4/15: Tigger is as affectionate and sweet and he was before. Easy in and out of his kennel. In the yard, very affectionate, playful, brings toys and waits for staff to throw them. He sits for treats and often giving kisses to all staff, rolls over for belly rubs. Tigger has not displayed any concerning behaviors. 4/26: Tigger has become calmer and well behaved in his kennel. He will still rush out when the door is opened but allows to be leashed with no issues. Outside with staff, Tigger is very playful and social with everyone. He appears to really enjoy playing fetch especially with any toys that squeak, he will relinquish all toys and does not display any concerning behaviors. Tigger really loves water, he will often jump into the doggy pool. Tigger was introduced to a medium size 6 month old puppy. Tigger was social, playful, very gentle, tolerant when the puppy became pushy, rambunctious and mouthy. Tigger would often roll over for the puppy and engaged in play majority of the time. Going back into his kennel, Tigger still continues to pull unless he is clipped on the the harness loop on his chest, then he will walk with less pull. Tigger walks right into his kennel, lays down and allows staff to remove the leash. Tigger has been very social and has no displayed any concerning behaviors. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner Recommendations comments:: New Hope Only: Based on Tigger's bite history, in addition to his behavior towards the other dog in the previous home, we believe he would benefit best from placement with a rescue partner who can further assess his behavior in a stable home environment. No children (under 13): Due to the behavior seen in the care center, we feel that Tigger may be intimidated by children at this time. Tigger requires a slow approach and time to warm up. He should never be forced to interact with new people, and should be allowed to greet and initiate an interaction at his own pace. Potential challenges: : Fearful,Strength/leash pulling Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Tigger may take some time to warm up to new people, though he shows good coping skills when uncomfortable (moving away). We feel he will do best with an experienced foster prepared to allow him to warm up to new people and new environments slowly. Use of treats and other rewards will help to make new experiences positive. Strength/leash pulling: Tigger is a large, strong dog with the capability to pull over an average adopter. His adopter must be prepared and able to handle a dog of this size and strength. It is recommended that he be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which help diminish his strength through leverage, and that he be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash. ------------------------------------------ NOTES FIRST STAY / INTAKE 03/29/18 Donkey ID# 24024 Staten Island ACC 1 year old, 58 lbs BROWN BRINDLE MALE GREEN Medical Behavior FOUND STRAY Intake Date: 3/29/18 Medical Behavior: Green *** SHELTER ASSESSMENT: AVERAGE HOME *** BEHAVIOR NOTES: Means of surrender (length of time in previous home): Stray Summary (1): When introduced to a large male through a gate, Donkey was wiggly, and curious, often sniffing the other dog.
