Dp x Dc AU: Jazz Fenton, after years of fixing her brother’s injuries, becomes a Doctor with an inclination towards behavioral health and psychology- In order to make the difference she wants to see in the world she joins Dr. Leslie Thompkin’s practice.
Jazz Fenton, M.D. has spent years of her life doing research, doing the hard work and the emotional labor, and finally, finally, she’s joining a practice she can feel 100% confident in. She’s goddamn good doctor and she wants to make the biggest impact that she can.
Dr. Thompkins (who insists that she call her Leslie as they’re colleagues now), is a kind woman, sharp as a tack and keeps her practice open at odd hours to help the most unfortunate. It took some time for them to bond and trust to be built, but now Jazz is being allotted a few night shifts here and there.
It’s incredible. Jazz gets to spend time with the kids who come in and really talk to them (in addition to getting them antibiotics, heating pads and pokemon themed bandaids) to help equip them with a few coping skills. Her passion for psychology never disappeared after all, but the expansive knowledge of how to heal the human body has made her find a sense of fulfillment like no other.
Having proven herself and worn Leslie down, Jazz now takes up about 1/3 of all the night shifts in the month. She’s hoping to get to 50/50 by the end of the year but she’s content with what she has. Danny keeps odd hours anyway so calling him after work on her walk home can happen any time of day and he will always answer enthusiastically.
It’s a particularly busy night before he comes in. The Red Hood.
He was known for being an ally to Leslie, despite being on contentious terms with the Bats, but Jazz had never asked directly. Never one to turn away a patient with bullet hole wounds, she hops into action to get his wounds cleaned, sewed up and gauze wrapped. She’s handing him a sheet (an Infographic! Dani made it with her! Graphic design is her passion!) on how to care for his wounds when he first seems to recognize that she’s not Leslie.
“No, Of course not. I’m Dr. Fenton. I can’t blame you for not remembering but I did introduce myself as you bled in the entry way. You’re Red Hood, right?”
“Hm. Didn’t realize the practice was expanding. Where can I find-” He grumbles before pushing her hand aside from where she had still been supporting his shoulder.
“Hold on there, mister. You’re going home, you’re following this infographic and you’re going to get some sleep.”
“Lady you don’t know-” His voice modulated ton came across antagonistically. As if he was trying to intimidate her. Ha, Jazz rolls her eyes at the inclination.
“Who I’m talking to? Who I’m dealing with? You’re hilarious. I can eat you vigilante’s hero complexes for breakfast. Tell me who I’m calling to pick you up and then you can say thank you.” Jazz snaps at him. It really had been a long night but his whole dialogue thus far is making her a bit batty.
“Oh really Doc? You know Leslie’s tough shit, and from what I can tell you’ve got nothing on her-”
“Trying to make me feel insufficient when I just saved your life? That’s cute. I’m sure a lifetime of abandonment by both of your parental figures gave you that. I’m also sure that you inherited this desire to prove you’re not going to be dependent on anyone who wants to help from whoever got you dressing up in tights to fight crime in the first place. Again, I’d love to talk at length about how predictable you-”
“Bwah- wait- I’m Predictable? You’re probably some nepobaby who had parents who told her she could have the world-” But Jazz cuts him off with hysterical laughter- he couldn’t be further from the truth. Her parents loved her, but nepotism? With what, the ghosts? If anything she got that from Danny, but he doesn’t need to know about her ghostly titles.
“You’re just some guy who came back from the dead and made his trauma everyone else’s issue. So shut it. And tell me how I’m getting you home from this clinic.” She seethes though her voice stays devastatingly level with each word.
Speechless for a moment, he eventually relents to Jazz that he’s already called for help on the comms but it will be hours before they can come for a pick up. The sun had already come up and the night had been over for most of them before Hood had walked into trouble. She groans and the realizes the time for herself and the empty clinic around them.
“Fine. My shift just ended anyway. I’ll get you home in one piece and I swear to all the ancients that you’d better follow the directions on the infographic.”
And that’s how Jazz ended up calling her brother while supporting the weight of a grown ass man (who no longer wanted to talk to her) on her walk home.
The next time Red Hood appears in her clinic, he’s brought a dozen roses in addition to the cut on his neck that definitely needs to be pressurized like ASAP. Did he stop for the flowers on his way to the clinic? He’s going to pass out from blood loss! She doesn’t even like roses!

First Master of Spinjitzu first student was Nineko. Wu's first student was Morro. Lloyd's first student is Arin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the first two have something in common, they abandoned their teachers and became evil.
Nineko was an orphan who stole to survive until the First Master took her in and trained her. But when something was missing she blamed Nineko immediately, she assured that she didn't do it but they didn't believe her so she fled (or was expelled) from the monastery, years later being the main villain in one of the Spinjutzu Brothers books.
Morro, we all know his story. Orphaned boy from the streets that Wu took in at the monastery and trained him, things did not go well when destiny denied him being the green ninja so he fled to prove the opposite, years later returning from the dead to take revenge (and redeem himself). to the last second).
And then there is Arin, the orphan boy whose parents were taken from him by a "natural disaster" (can it be considered that way?) lost somewhere, living alone with his friend in a strange world until adolescence where he met his idol and who fell would become his teacher. He doesn't run away and turn evil like the other two, right?
Because something tells me that there is a pattern for the first students.
Nineko: I speak the truth. I didn't steal anything!...please trust me, I didn't do it.
Morro: Fate is wrong, I am the green ninja! You made me believe it!
Arin: But... you promised that we would find my parents.
I think Arin could fill the villain role or at least the resentful student vibe of the other two if you put him in the right situation.
Part of Arin's internal conflict is finding his parents, now, imagine that after the entire ninja team joins Lloyd leaves that issue a little aside, not because he doesn't care, he just doesn't realize it, plus he himself doesn't. He is necessarily close to his own parents. So Arin would have this thought of "you take me to look for your family, but you won't help me look for mine?" maybe not like that, but you get the idea, plus Arin seems stressed or angry in the new trailers, that could set off a little chain reaction.
I'm not saying that Arin would become a villain by any means, but it would be interesting to see him questioning or confronting Lloyd about something similar.

alexia x reader angst + fluff ahead :) r is jealous of alexia and jenni's relationship; she can't bring herself to believe alexia would want her the way she wanted jenni. alexia tries to resolve these insecurities.
------
You needed to get off tiktok. It had been harmless at first, enjoying very interesting edits of your girlfriend. Your favorite clips were the ones where she pulled her shirt up on the pitch to wipe away at her sweaty face. Quickly, though, as you sneakily saved a few of the edits, you got more football related tiktoks. More Alexia related tiktoks. And, before long, edits of Alexia and Jenni. You weren’t naive, and Alexia wasn’t shy about the fact that her and Jenni were still close. It hadn’t bothered you, not at first. Overtime, though, it became overwhelming. It wasn’t just the social media videos, comments, and posts that seemed to pop up wherever you went. It was more so the way they looked at each other. Every post from the Spanish team’s social media sent a spike of anxiety down your spine. They were practically attached at the hip during national camps, always smiling, always laughing. Always side by side. Looking at each other with huge grins stretched across their faces.
You didn’t want to be jealous. You didn’t want to be that possessive girlfriend that made her partner feel bad for seeing her friends. You didn’t want to be controlling, and you didn’t want to tell Alexia that there was a problem. She’d never given you any reason not to trust her, and it felt wrong to bring this issue up, especially when it was entirely your issue. Your insecurity. It didn’t matter how many times you cried about it while she was away. It didn’t matter how long you spent looking in the mirror, wondering if you were lacking something that Alexia found in her ex. You wouldn’t bring this up to her, wouldn’t add it to her already long list of stressors.
Still, it ate at you, every day she was gone. You weren’t an athlete, you were a sports photographer. You were more introverted than Jenni was. You didn’t think you were as pretty as her, or as funny. You loved football, but you didn’t play the sport your girlfriend loved. You were just… you. And Jenni was Jenni Hermoso. It seemed so obvious to you that there was no comparison, that Alexia had downgraded with you.
-----
The way Alexia greeted you upon her return home from the airport should have quelled all your insecurities.
“Mi niña,”  she sang, walking into the house and immediately abandoning her bag in favor of rushing through the house until she found you. When she did, opening the office door and seeing you focused on the screen in front of you, touching up a recent photograph you’d taken of her on the pitch, headphones clamped over your ears, she smiled to herself. She really was thrilled to see you.
“Amor,” she called again, trying not to startle you as she walked closer, waiting until you noticed her out of the corner of your eye to spin your chair around. You smiled up at her, barely opening your mouth to say hello before she was smashing her lips against yours.
She kissed you hard, hands gripping the sides of her face, and you knew, at least, that she’d missed you.
“Hola mí campeona,” you replied, your Spanish not perfect, but bringing a smile to Alexia’s face all the same.
“Hi,” she grinned, carelessly taking your headphones off and tossing them aside. “No more work. Come spend time with me.” She insisted.
“Anything for you, beautiful,” you smiled. Alexia couldn’t help but notice the way the smile wasn’t quite your normal one. You seemed hesitant for her to touch you, which was not a normal occurrence. She pushed this aside, though, assuming work was stressing you out.
Alexia didn't notice anything else out of the ordinary as you both headed to the kitchen, preparing a snack. You chatted easily about her flight, about your work week. Alexia could see you visibly relaxing the longer you were around her. That is, until she mentioned her dinner plans.
“Jenni is here for a couple days before she goes back to Mexico. I was thinking I would grab dinner with her tonight before she goes.” Alexia didn’t have any reason to think this would upset you, as you’d never expressed discomfort surrounding her relationship with Jenni. You tensed though, a look Alexia didn’t recognize washing over your face.
“Okay. I’ll see you later then.” You said weakly, turning away from her to head into the other room, anywhere else so Alexia wouldn’t see you cry. Not over something so stupid. Not over something that wasn’t her fault. She was allowed to be friends with whoever she wanted to.
She caught you, though, grabbing your hand and spinning you around to face her. Her forehead was wrinkled with concern, and any other time you would have smiled at the sight, but it was too hard right now to do anything other than blink back your tears.
“Are you upset with me?” Alexia wondered quietly, her tone steady, but her eyes flitting nervously around the room as she addressed you.
Your head whipped up to look at her. “No, no. Of course not, why would you think that?”
You knew why she’d thought that. Purely because of your own feelings, you’d been weirdly distant with her. You couldn’t stand to have Alexia’s arms wrapped around you, feeling like the more time she spent close to you, the quicker she’d realize you weren’t good enough. Alexia was touchy, incredibly so, and she’d noticed you dodging the contact from her that you normally leaned into.
“You seem upset. If I did something, amor, please tell me.”
“Ale, it’s nothing you did, please don’t worry about it.” You tried, sending her a very weak smile as tears continued to prick at your eyes. You couldn’t cry right now, it would only alarm her more.
Alexia noticed, of course, pulling you closer with a frown on her face.
“No, now you are crying. Please, bonita. Dime qué está pasando. I want to make it better.” She pleaded, sounding almost desperate.
“Can I just… have a hug please?” You mumbled, cheeks burning with embarrassment. She wanted to help, and you still didn’t want to talk, so this seemed like a happy medium.
Alexia wasn’t fazed. “Of course, mi amor. Ven aquí,” she encouraged, opening her arms for you. You fell right into them, head tucked under her chin. Alexia was a phenomenal hugger, truly. Her hugs were completely encapsulating, enveloping your entire body in her warmth. Her hugs surrounded you with her, her scent, the feeling of her body against yours, her soft lips kissing the top of your head. This hug was no different, Alexia bringing you against her easily, your smaller form fitting against hers like a puzzle piece. The blonde always intertwined her hand with the hair on the back of your head when she held you, scratching lightly at your scalp, and you let out a content hum at the sensation, already feeling your insecurities fade.
“Mi niña perfecta,” Alexia mumbled, swaying the both of you back and forth in an oddly comforting manner. You were happy to never leave her arms ever again, but she inevitably pulled away, taking your face in her hands very delicately. She could tell that you were not about to clue her in to why you were so upset.
“I will call Jenni and cancel, sí?” She thought you would be relieved, assuming you were upset that she was leaving so soon after getting home.
“No, Ale. She’s your friend and she lives across the world. Please go to dinner. I’ll be fine, I’m just overwhelmed with work.” You argued, shaking your head firmly.
“Amor,”
“Alexia. Go to dinner.” You insisted, leaning up to press a kiss to her lips. Again, you smiled up at her, but it wasn’t your real smile, and she could still see a hint of something in your eyes.
Hoping the space would give you some time to come to your senses and talk about whatever was bothering you, Alexia relented, pulling you into the bedroom to keep her company while she got dressed.
-----
“Alexia, are you stupid?” Jenni asked, shaking her head at her friend. The blonde had finally explained why she kept checking her phone, and why she seemed so distracted. They were almost done with dinner, and Alexia had been acting weird the entire time. Jenni had pushed and pushed, as was her nature, until her ex had told her what had happened. What amused Jenni most was that Ale seemed to have no idea, no idea at all, what had happened to make you so upset.
Alexia just blinked at her. “No?”
“You are having dinner with your ex-girlfriend. Who you just spent 2 entire weeks with. Do you know how many pictures and videos Spain posted of us together?” Jenni explained slowly.
“No, she knows there is nothing between us. We are just friends.”
“Knowing that doesn’t mean she won’t still feel insecure about it, Ale. She probably is a bit jealous, but feels bad telling you because she knows we are just friends.”
Alexia looked baffled, and not for the first time, Jenni wondered how someone who came from such a loving family could be so dense when it came to other people’s feelings. “Oh.”
“Yeah, oh. Go, Ale. Go home to your girl.”
And, although Alexia looked ready to leap through the window of the restaurant if it meant she’d get home earlier, she studied Jenni closely, not wanting to hurt her friend’s feelings. “Are you sure?”
“Sí, I have other people to see in this city besides you, Ale. Go.” Jenni insisted, flashing a familiar grin at Alexia. It didn’t hold the same power over the blonde as it used to, and she barely even noticed it before she gave Jenni a quick hug and bolted from the restaurant.
------
Alexia drove home fast, speeding to a level you would not approve of had you been in the car. She was desperate to get home to you, especially now that she realized what the problem was. It was important to her, though, that you brought up the problem to her. Even Alexia knew that saying “my ex girlfriend says you’re jealous” would end… poorly, to say the least. She decided to say that she came home early because she missed you, and her and Jenni were both exhausted from traveling.
Meanwhile, you were taking advantage of your time alone, allowing yourself to feel the emotions that you were avoiding in your girlfriend’s presence, the ones that couldn’t be allowed out when she returned home later. That’s how Alexia found you, actually, sitting on the couch, frantically wiping at your tears when she unexpectedly walked through the front door.
“Ale? What are you doing home so early?” You asked, trying to sniffle nonchalantly, while also trying to pretend you’d been doing anything but crying.
“We ate fast, and we were tired. And I missed you, I wanted to be home with you.” Alexia said. She didn’t look surprised enough at the state you were in, and you grew slightly suspicious that she was lying, but you allowed her to come sit next to you anyway. She was wearing one of your favorite sweaters, and it was instinctual when you leaned in towards the soft cashmere.
“Hey,” she murmured, letting you rest against her.
“Hi.” You managed. It was inevitable, now, the conversation that was coming. You had no choice.
“Amor,” she sighed, once again tilting your face up to look at hers. “Tell me why you are so sad.” Alexia pleaded, and it was this that got to you. Alexia didn’t beg. Anyone. Ever. For anything. The very few times she whipped it out with you, you were completely powerless to resist it.
“It’s stupid.” You said.
Alexia frowned at you. “No. If you are crying, it is important, and I want to hear about it. Please.”
You looked conflicted. “Why did you and Jenni break up?” You weren’t sure how to express what was going on inside your head, so you asked this question instead, hoping it would maybe clue Alexia in, without you having to explicitly say so.
Alexia looked at you like she understood, though. “We grew apart. We did not love each other the way we were supposed to anymore. We got together when we were really young, and we just were not right for each other. We are friends now but it took a while to get there. That is it though, amor. Just friends.”
“Just friends?” You repeated, and Alexia could hear the insecurity clear in your voice.
“Just friends, amor. I love you, and only you. I want you, and only you.”
You let out a breath of air in disbelief. Your insecurities had taken over your every thought in the past few days, and when you compared yourself to Jenni, you could only see your flaws and shortcomings.  “Why?”
“Why what?” Alexia asked.
“Why do you want me when you could have someone like her?” You asked, voice breaking slightly.
Your girlfriend was almost… angry, she was so upset you were feeling this way. “Mi amor, how can you ask that? Why would I want anyone else?”
“I don’t look like her.” You murmured. Alexia felt her heart break. “I’m not fit like a footballer. I’m not funny like her. How can I be enough for you, when you had her before me?” You wouldn’t look at her, even when she tried to catch your eye, so she settled for gripping your hand tightly in hers.
“Oh, cariño. I love you so much. You have my heart, mi amor. No one else does, and no one else ever could. You are beautiful, so beautiful I cannot help but stare sometimes. I could stare for hours, mi amor, and never get tired of it. You make me laugh, and you make me smile, and you make me feel safe. You make me so happy, mi amor, more than anyone, more than anything. I love you. Te amo, te quiero, t'estimo.” She insisted.
Finally, you raised your head to look at her, a cautious hope clear in your eyes.
“You are my girl. Mine. I do not want to have anyone else, please believe me.”
You let out a shuddering breath. “I love you,” you whispered, swiping impatiently at the tears falling freely down your face.
“Come here,” Alexia murmured, unable to handle the distance between the two of you anymore, not when you looked so desperate to believe her, and to feel her. She wrapped you up tight against her, for the second time that day, but there was something different in this embrace. There wasn’t anything in standing between you, anymore, no unspoken feelings, no hidden insecurities. You had exposed your biggest fears to Alexia, fears of not being good enough, and she had dismissed them so easily, like she didn’t even have to think about it.
Alexia loved you so well, so easily. While you still believed she was too good for you, you believed that she loved you, wanted you. Only you. Not Jenni, not anyone else. She spoke so definitively to you, so assured in her love for you.
“Mí niña, mí amor, para siempre. I am sorry I did not see this sooner, amor. You have to communicate with me, please. When you are upset, when you do not feel good enough. You have to tell me, because you are perfect, my perfect girl, and you deserve to know that. You deserve to feel it, sí? Feel how much I love you.”
You nodded minutely, content to bury your face in her neck, and let the feeling of being with the woman you loved wash over you, and push away everything else. She smelled like her perfume, like Alexia, and it was a smell that put you at ease instantly, in a way that was purely physiological.
“Ale, I love you.” You mumbled again. She nodded against you, running her hand through your hair.
“I know, mí amor, I know. You always show me how well you love me, you make me believe it every day. You love me so well, bebé, you are so perfect. Tan perfecta para mí.”
The words were murmured into your hair, and there was an unspoken promise held within them; that she would make you feel the same way. Make you feel just as loved. No matter what it took, Alexia would make it happen. The strength with which she held you, the way she rubbed your back softly and pressed kisses into your head; she was already doing it. Already making you feel her love.

sorry this took so long :,) i hope it isn't terrible because i lowkey feel like it is
i love you all very much <3

Tara Carpenter x female Reader
Summary: To anyone on the outside, and to Tara’s friends, you were Tara’s fierce protector, the MMA fighter who’d take anyone on for Tara. The Guard Dog, as Amber called you. You had no idea you’d have to protect her from people who claimed they loved her. It didn’t matter. As long as you and Tara had one another there was nothing you wouldn’t be able to survive.
Story warnings: Scream violence, family issues, trauma, angst, certain sensitive topics
Word count: 4.4k
Story masterlist / First part / Previous part / Next part
-That's why we won't back down we won't run and hide-
Though you weren't exactly happy about it, you, Tara, and Sam accepted Gale's help, so now the four of you, as well as Kirby and Bailey found yourself in a former movie theater turned shrine for Ghostface.
You felt sick. Angry that someone could actually worship these monsters. So many people died. Everyone in this theater, aside from Bailey, was attacked at least once. You kept an eye on others, on Gale as she passed by Dewey's photos or her own books. On Kirby and Bailey as they focused on whatever grabbed their interests. On Sam as she went and touched the glass case holding Billy's mannequin. On Tara as she went over to Sam.
You were stuck observing crime scene photos from when Amber attacked Tara. You saw Tara's wounds, you knew minute details of each and every scar she had. You never saw the photos of her house from that night. You clenched your fists, wishing you shot Amber, you wished you could go back and finish her off instead of forcing Tara to do it.
You saw Tara going outside and were about to follow her when your phone rang. This time you checked the ID and saw it was Thomas. His timing really was the worst. With a groan, you answered the phone.
"Hey, Y/N, sorry to call like this, but I heard you didn't go to the gym last night," he opened up with that right away.
"Yeah, sorry, something came up," you didn't sound sorry at all, you'd abandon the gym a hundred times over if needed.
"Look, I know these past two weeks have been tough and I may have asked too much of you-" you really didn't feel like having this conversation.
"I'm busy right now, we'll talk later," you hung up before he could even respond to that. Since your phone was already in your hand you tried to call Susan one more time, but, as it always did these past two days, it just went to voicemail. "Fuck!" you cursed and stuffed your phone in your pocket.
"Troubles?" Bailey asked and you just now realized you were alone with him.
"Are you asking, or questioning me?" you still didn't know where the police tracker came from. There was no way you were trusting anyone.
"Just asking, sorry if I'm overstepping," he raised his hands.
You nodded. "You are overstepping," you said and tilted your head in the direction Tara and others went. "After you."
He sighed, but otherwise remained silent and complied with your wishes. The two of you found Sam and Gale in the midst of, from what you could see, burying the hatchet.
"Where's Tara?" you asked right away, honestly hoping you didn't all walk into a trap set by Ghostface.
"Kirby is with her, they went upstairs, wherever that leads," Sam told you.
"I think I have a plan how to catch these fuckers," Bailey said and you desperately wanted to agree with the plan. The sooner this was over the better.
~X~
You absolutely hated the plan Bailey had. And you were vocal about it. So, here you were, at the park, next to the van Kirby would trace the call from with Tara trying one last time to get her to change her mind.
"Tara, please, at least think this through," you pleaded, already certain you were wasting your breath, but you couldn't just give up.
"I thought it through, Y/N, I'm staying with Sam," Tara leaned against the van with her arms crossed over her chest.
"It's dangerous, at least let me come with you," if you couldn't get her to stay safe, then you might be able to convince her to let you come with her and Sam.
"It won't work if you're there. You can fight them," Tara huffed, clearly getting frustrated as well. The two of you had been going back and forth on this ever since Bailey proposed the plan and she decided she wouldn't let Sam do it alone.
You pinched the bridge of your nose, already feeling a headache over this whole plan. And they weren't even out in the open yet. "I don't want you to get hurt."
Tara narrowed her eyes at that. "And it's fine if Sam gets hurt?!" she raised her voice and tightly gripped her left biceps.
"I didn't say that," you took a step back, trying to cool your head at least a bit.
"No, but you think I could get hurt, so you think Sam could get hurt and you're not trying to convince her not to do it," Tara took a few deep breaths.
"You and I both know I'd much rather take Sam's place, but no, Ghostface is after her so anyone else won't do!" you yelled, what little cool you managed to regain fading away way too quickly for your liking.
"Like you left last night? Right? Like how you chose to put yourself in danger even after you saw there was a tracker on your car?! Do you even understand how worried I was?!" somehow this was reminding you of the night you told Tara you were retiring from MMA.
"I fucked up, okay?" you spread your arms for a moment then let them drop at your sides. "I thought they'd try to finish me off first and figured I could use the opportunity."
"Yeah, you thought putting yourself in danger and possibly fighting someone that defeated you before was okay, but this isn't?" Tara asked incredulously.
"So, your solution is to go ahead and do something equally reckless? Is that what you're saying, Tara?" you had no idea how you weren't already shouting. You felt like screaming, but you still didn't shout.
"She's my sister, Y/N! I'm her backup, and if it comes down to it we'll keep each other safe!" Tara yelled and, perhaps to avoid arguing further began walking toward where Sam was getting ready with Kirby and Bailey.
"Yeah, because being with Sam sure kept you safe every time Ghostface was involved!" you just snapped and watched as Tara turned around.
She was glaring at you. "Don't you fucking dare, Y/N," she warned.
For once you glared back. "Am I wrong?" you challenged. As long as you could move and you were there no one, not Amber, not Richie, not whoever these Ghostfaces were, managed to touch her, let alone hurt her. Sam didn’t have the same track record.
Tara reached you, anger evident in her eyes, and then, as if she just made that decision at that exact moment, swung her palm toward your face. You caught her wrist, entirely unimpressed with how telegraphed the attempted slap was. "Don't ever try that again," you let go of her wrist and climbed into the van, shutting the door behind you.
You slumped down and absentmindedly touched the scar on the right side of your jaw. Once again you called Susan, once again you were left in silence. You looked at the last text exchange you had with her, the word fun popping up for some reason. Maybe you should take that vacation the moment this all ends, or at least the moment everyone heals up. Maybe spend a week or two in Sacramento, only you and Susan, and then come back to New York with her for Thanksgiving.
Maybe taking that small break from one another's company would be good for Tara, after all this wasn't the first fight in the past few days, and that one was before you even knew Ghostface was back. Sure, you talked it out and kissed it better, but this one just brought it back to your mind.
You only opened your eyes when you heard the doors opening because you wanted to be sure Kirby was the one coming in.
"You look awful," she commented.
"You look like it's none of your business," you replied, not really in the mood to discuss this with her.
"Someone's cranky," she just shrugged and you chose not to respond.
Too much time passed before Ghostface finally called, bragging about being a step ahead. And he was. He went after Gale. Bailey got in the van and turned the engine on.
"Where are Tara and Sam?!" you jumped to your feet.
"They stole my car!" he exclaimed.
At this rate, you were going to have a heart attack. "Who's driving?!"
"Tara," that girl was going to be the death of you.
"Are you crazy?! Tara can't drive! How are you even a cop you incompetent fuck?! How could someone just steal your damn car?!" a rage-fueled part of your brain cynically told you this was to be expected. That you should have realized Tara was too reckless to consider her own safety even back when she stubbornly convinced you to take her with you when you went after Sam back to Woodsboro after she just barely survived two attacks and had a broken leg. That you should have realized it when she first disappeared and went to a party with complete strangers.
When you finally reached Gale's apartment building you saw Tara and Sam sitting in the hall and you ran up to them.
Tara looked up when she heard you and she got up rushing to meet you halfway, only to stop, as if suddenly remembering the last interaction you had. You took a deep breath and just pulled her into a hug. She quietly sobbed into your chest as you held her.
"Is Gale still alive?" you asked softly and relaxed when Tara nodded.
"She was seriously injured, but she should be fine," she told you when you released her, your heart cracking a bit when you saw the pain in her eyes when you pulled away. With a hand on her back, you led her back to where Sam was still sitting.
"Hey," you squeezed Sam's shoulder, hoping to comfort her a bit.
"Hey, sorry we left you with Kirby and Bailey," she apologized and placed her hand on top of yours for a moment. You just nodded and sat down with Tara.
Soon enough you saw Danny running in. "Hey, I came as soon as I could," he ran up to you, looking mostly at Sam.
"Did you?" Tara challenged and he just looked at her, perhaps knowing better than to add fuel to the fire.
"More importantly, what now?" you chose to save him from Tara's anger.
"Maybe he gets to win this time," Sam's words made alarms go off in your head as you turned to look at her.
"What?" you demanded.
"He wants to punish me," she explained, on the verge of tears. "Me," she stood up and faced Tara and you. "So maybe I let him. I'll just give myself up."
You couldn't believe what you were hearing and for a split second, you wondered if Sam lost her mind or if you were hallucinating. "Fuck that! Who do you think you are, huh?!" you got up and stormed away from Sam. "Giving herself up? Unbelievable!"
"If this is what it takes to keep you safe, it's worth it," the only reason you weren't yelling that she was out of her mind was because she was crying. Sam was crying and you rarely saw that.
You couldn't convince her, so you'd leave it to Tara and maybe scold her once this was all over.
Tara stood up and approached Sam. "No, we're not doing that, Sam. You went back to Woodsboro to protect me. Every single day you make the decision to protect me. None of us would even be alive if it weren't for you. You have to let us protect you this time," Tara told her without a single hint of doubt in her words.
"No," Sam said weakly.
"Yes," Tara said firmly and from the corner of your eye you saw her pulling Sam into a hug. "We're a team, remember? I can't lose you, Sam, it feels like I just got you back in my life."
That was definitely going to work. The question remained though. What to do next?
"He's gonna keep coming after us," Sam pointed out while hugging Tara back.
"We could use that, though," Tara said and somehow you just had the feeling she was about to suggest something reckless before she even spoke up.
The plan? That involved Bailey and Kirby? Lure Ghostface into the movie theatre they used as a shrine and execute them. When Tara said she intended to execute Ghostface you looked at the ceiling, took a deep breath, and just accepted it.
'At this point, the best I can do is be the fucking bodyguard,' a moment later you wondered when was the last time you cursed this much. "Right, off to the murder shrine, where we'll definitely have the upper hand," you couldn't help but grumble.
~X~
You drove to the murder shrine, in your car, just you, Tara, Sam, and Danny. No public transport. Nope. none of that. You were not about to be suspicious of every stranger on the train.
When you parked outside the theatre you saw Kirby waiting for you.
"I talked to Bailey, let's get you all inside," she went right down to business, but Sam abruptly turned around and faced Danny.
"Not you," she said.
"What?" he asked.
"Don't trust anyone, remember? We don't know you, not really," she told him.
"I don't know, Sam, we could use extra muscle," you still weren't sure you could defeat that Ghostface in a one-on-one, let alone with at least two more on his side.
"Y/N is right and you know me," Danny tried to convince her.
"You're not Woodsboro. I'm sorry," Sam wasn't listening.
"It's okay. It's okay, I get it. Just be safe, okay?" he kissed her cheek.
Sam nodded. "You too," with that, she turned around and the rest of you followed, leaving Danny behind.
"Good call," Kirby said as the four of you entered the theatre.
~X~
Things just kept getting better and better, Kirby was the only one with a gun, the only one with any weapon, really, and you only had one exit.
Perhaps seeing the tense look on your face prompted her to do it, but Tara took your hand and pulled at it, frowning when you didn't comply.
"Come with me for a minute?" she requested, looking softly into your eyes.
"Now? You want to separate from Sam now?" you couldn't help but ask.
"Please, Y/N," you could never resist her for long. Thus, you complied, letting her lead you outside of the shrine and into the hall where you figured tickets used to be sold. "You're stressed," she said, not quite getting into your personal space, but still remaining close to you.
"Can you honestly blame me? I'm one bad thing away from just breaking down, Tara. I'm just tired," the first time this happened you had moments to rest, you slept, and you felt safe at Susan's place, for the last twenty-four hours even when you weren't in constant danger you were either arguing with Tara or trying to reach Susan.
Sure, you slept yesterday, but that was over thirty hours ago at this point and you were really feeling the stress that accumulated over the past two weeks.
"It'll be over soon," she said, reaching up to touch your cheek, but stopping mere inches away from it. As if trying to slap you suddenly put an invisible barrier between you that was only temporarily broken by the adrenaline caused by what happened to Gale.
For once, you chose not to lean into her touch. "Let's go back to Sam," you said and Tara nodded, lowering her hand. She walked in front of you and you went back to the shrine to see Sam running toward the doors you just walked through with a knife in her hand.
You were immediately looking around, trying to see if she was running from someone, but somehow you couldn't see anyone.
"It's Kirby! She made this whole theatre a kill box, for us!" Sam explained rapidly.
"What?" you asked, but it made sense. The police tracker on your car, only Kirby having a gun, locking you here...
"Bailey is on the way here, but-" Sam continued as you went back to the middle of the shrine.
"Stay back to back," you interrupted her and the three of you stood in a circle, making sure you had each other's back.
"Wait, wasn't it Bailey's idea to use you as bait?" Tara reminded Sam.
"And Kirby refused to let Gale come with us," Sam said, frantically looking around for any trace of Kirby.
"Unless he figured that's what would happen. Just to be sure, how about we don't trust either of them?" you suggested.
Tara nodded and you felt her brushing her fingers over your hand.
You took and squeezed her hand reassuringly. "Ghostface appears you stay still, you hear me. Don't make sudden moves," you could pull either of them behind you and counter-attack at any time, you just needed them to stay calm.
You heard footsteps coming from your left, where Sam was and you moved, getting between the masked attacker and her just in time to catch his fist and punch his face. "Fuck running, I'm fighting you head-on," you said as he stumbled back, from the grunt of pain you figured this was probably the one you stabbed last night.
The second one jumped out, but they didn't attack, choosing to circle the three of you instead.
"Sam, Y/N," Tara was close to panicking and you knew why. The third one. He still wasn't there.
"I need you to be ready! You ready?" Sam asked she had her back to Tara's while you moved to stand closer to the front of her while not blocking her direct line of sight. Sam even handed Tara a brick.
Tara took a deep breath. "I'm ready," she took another deep breath. "Come on motherfuckers!" unnecessary, but as long as she was calm and ready.
Shooting made both Ghostfaces take cover and you turned to see Kirby, bleeding from the side of her head, and more importantly with a gun in her hands.
Somehow, you relaxed, if she wanted to shoot you, she probably would have done it and used the element of surprise.
"Maybe it's not you after all," you said and turned to Sam. "Come on, what's the point of keeping cover at this point? Your aim really sucks though. Not even one bullet hit them," you said, you'd still keep your guard up around her, but for now you figured you could tentatively trust her.
"My head is bleeding, Y/N," she deadpanned.
"Meh, excuses," you replied.
"Kirby, get away from the girls!" Bailey rushed in, with his gun raised.
"Whatever you think, I'm not the killer!" Kirby quickly denied any involvement in this mess. "I don't know what he's been telling you, but don't listen to him!"
And then the third Ghostface, the one you were the most worried about, came up behind Bailey.
"Behind you!" Kirby yelled only for Bailey to shoot her.
"Great job, you three," Bailey said as the three Ghostfaces stood by his side.
'Right, this is happening. Four of them, just great,' you thought as you fully expected Bailey to point his gun at the three of you.
"You?" Tara asked.
"Yeah, of course, it's me. Frankly, I expected more from you after what you did to us," he declared.
"Us?" Sam repeated.
"Let me guess, Quinn?" you figured since he was saying 'us' maybe his daughter was involved as well.
Indeed, the Ghostface to Bailey's right took the mask off, and sure enough, it was Quinn.
"Hello, almost roomies. Too bad I couldn't resist messing with you when we met, but it was a good way to not be on the suspect list," she said.
Then the Ghostface to Bailey's left took off his mask. "Mindy was right, it was easy to juke the roommate lottery!" Ethan exclaimed. "All I had to do to get close to you was room with a conceited, condescending alpha, literally named Chad. Fuck, I can't wait to kill him!" he pointed the knife at the mask he was holding. "This was your grandmother's Sam. Nancy Loomis. Really runs in your fucking family, doesn't it? Speaking of family..."
"Wait for it," Bailey chimed in.
"My name isn't Ethan Landry, is it dad?" and Bailey just laughed at that, as if there was actually something funny.
"Dad?" Tara's eyes widened.
"And then they tell Sam it runs in her family," you sighed as Ethan and Quinn began pacing around once again. You remained focused on the only remaining masked one.
Bailey explained his plan, saying how they were counting down to Billy's mask. Jason and Greg, bodega, Sam's therapist, your shared apartment, that was four, with four of them there were now eight masks. The idea that one, Amber's mask, was still missing worried you. Was Gale the ninth mask? That didn't make sense, no mask was left behind and it was the last attack, not the first as the countdown should imply.
Convinced that the fourth one was content with watching you began walking around Tara and Sam, keeping light on your feet, and making sure Quinn and Ethan were on your opposite sides the whole time. This way you could react to either of them attacking. They wouldn't be allowed to touch either Tara or Sam, not with you right there.
"I'm gonna need you to put it on," Bailey offered the mask to Sam, but she slapped it out of his hand.
Ethan went in to slash her, but you stepped in, making him halt before he could reach you. "How are the wounds?" you taunted and just as it looked like he was about to back away the fourth one spoke, still using the voice changer.
"Step back, she'll just hit you again," he warned, actually sounding amused, and though it was clear Ethan didn't like that, he did step away.
Their plan was insane, though it was working out well for them so far. They ruined Sam's reputation, courtesy of Quinn's efforts, and as Ethan explained it further Quinn made a mock attempt to stab Tara.
You once again moved in time, regardless of her intentions, and pulled Tara behind you.
"Truly a guard dog," Quinn mocked and that's when it all clicked for all three of you.
They weren't Amber's family, but... "You're Richie's family," Sam realized.
"Yeah," Bailey said slowly.
"Ding, ding, ding!" not liking the enthusiasm Ethan had when he said it you stopped between him and Sam, he seemed ready to lunge at you, but the warning he got before kept him at bay, at least for now.
"Now! It wasn't until I saw those photographs of what you did to him that I knew! I knew you had to die for what you did to him! You had to be punished!" Bailey yelled, angry at Sam for what she did to his son. You could say you blamed him, but you still weren’t about to let him or his children hurt Tara and Sam.
"Real great parenting, by the way," Tara commented.
"Shut your whore mouth!" Quinn screamed at her. Ah, so she was the one that called you.
"And you? What's your deal?" you gestured toward the still masked Ghostface, interrupting whatever Bailey was about to say.
"You really should have figured it out by now. I get that you probably didn't want to consider it since I did help you out so much," he removed the mask.
Your jaw dropped slightly as you recognized Thomas. Honestly, you should have seen it coming just from how well the bastard fought. "What the fuck?" you couldn't help but ask. "Are you kidding me right now? Do you have any idea how bad it'll look when I end up putting 'Killed my employer' down as the reason for unemployment?" why was he even after you. Richie's family you could understand on some level, they were the bastard's family, but Thomas? Really?
Thomas laughed. "Trust me, that's the least of your worries, Y/N," he said and held up a paper bag for you to see. "You wondered where Amber's mask ended up?" the smirk on his face, the tone of his voice, it all made you feel unexplainable dread. "Take a good look," he opened the bag and turned it over, letting a very familiar pair of MMA gloves fall to the dirty floor.
Despite Tara's attempt to grab your hand you took steps forward, stopping right between Tara and Sam and the gloves at Thomas' feet. "Susan," your throat was dry when you said her name.
"Exactly, it's been four days now, just so you know why she hasn't been responding all this time," he was taunting you. He was amused by your failure to figure out what happened to Susan.
"Why?! What did she ever do to any of you?!" you weren't the one asking that, it was Tara.
You just stared at the gloves, barely even registering your surroundings. If anyone wanted to kill you, well, there wasn't a better opportunity than this very moment.
"It's simple really. Susan was the only one who'd always, no matter what, no matter what the other choice is, choose Y/N. Your friends won't, Samantha won't, not even you would Tara. It would hurt you, you'd never forgive yourself, but you'd choose Samantha in the end," he turned to you as Tara remained silent. "Parents? Oh, they really don't care. Zack and Susan? Dead. You can try to deny it all you want, but the only reason you are still alive is because you were strong enough to survive on your own. Twice now you were stuck with me, no one came to help. Your girlfriend put up a better fight to protect a friend than she did to protect you. You are alone, Y/N, and you threw everything you could have been for nothing. Quite frankly, what I'm about to do is a mercy kill."
You heard everything he said and you relaxed. There was nothing. No rage. No despair. No remorse. No sorrow. Nothing. Just an empty state of mindlessness.
"That's it," Thomas grinned, tossing aside his robes. Then his eyes abruptly widened. "Wait, Quinn!"
"Y/N!" you heard Tara and Sam's scream.
You glanced to your left and focused on nothing but the blade that was approaching you.
A/N: Two chapters to go, people, almost there! Here's a fun question, how much would Tara suffer if she had to choose between Sam and Reader? Thank you for reading, see you next time! Updated: 30.03.2024.

You’ve talked about how fandom treats jtodd & dick, so what are your thoughts on how fandom treats dick & tim?
There’s this post that’s asking about people’s batfamily hot takes, and I was scrolling through the reblogs bc I love drama. One of the “hot takes” was calling dick a bad brother bc of the bruce lost in time comic era. Specifically saying that fandom excuses dick’s shitty behavior towards Tim bc his dad (Bruce) died and because of the stress of taking care of the city by himself. While Tim was hurting because of the deaths of Kon, Bart, Jack, Steph, and Donna (idk why they included Donna as Tim’s grief and not Dick’s??) and therefore Tim’s & Dick’s hurt and stress aren’t the same. According to this person, Tim was going through it and Dick was making it worse.
Now, I’m not going to claim I know how everything went down since I haven’t read those comics yet, but this feels like a gross misunderstanding of the arc.
From what I’ve seen, fandom tends to invalidate and villainize Dick during this time in favor of Tim. Dick is not being excused, in fact he’s being blamed for things that are either not his fault or just made up in order to whump Tim. Idk that “hot take” just rubbed me the wrong way because of how one-sided it was, and I guess it made me wonder about your thoughts about Dick & Tim since I tend to agree with your opinions lmao
fundamentally the issue is this — dick grayson existing and being a good person is an obstacle for fanon angst. dick grayson being a good brother means that jtodd can’t just slot into his pre-existing relationships with tim and cass and damian. dick grayson being a good friends means that he’s close with the titans and the league because he’s competent and trusted. dick grayson being kind means that he didn’t abandon tim, he was literally trying to keep everything together after bruce’s death.
not to try and make it a grief olympics but as much as people talk about everyone tim has lost (and i think they must have been talking about dana winters in that post?) people seem to forget that dick’s city just got nuked + the fallout of nightwing 93 + donna dying + jade dying + the titans falling apart + he was just locked in arkham himself. like… his dad has just died, he’s had to fight off his brother who’d just tried to kill both tim and damian and been given custody over a kid who doesn’t trust him
red robin 2009 has done irreversible harm to tim drakes character. people using that as the starting point for reading about him is bad. it’s a comic about a grief spiral, and it isn’t an amazing depiction of him either. but even then, people just seem to love straight up fabricating what’s in it.
dick tells tim that therapy might be a good idea. tim tells dick that he’s leaving because he trusts dick to let him do what he needs to do. even at his lowest point, dick is who he trusts most. those takes that’re like “tim drake was at his lowest point and then jtodd sees him and realises that he’s cool actually and they bond #jasontoddisagoodbrother #dickgraysonisabadbrother etc” because they like to posit that dick threatened to throw tim in arkham are so silly
that’s even ignoring how people just straight up lie about damian’s actions and how weird everyone is about ra’s al ghul. no, tim isn’t the only one he refers to as detective aside from bruce. no, tim isn’t one step away from being a mass murderer. no, damian didn’t try to kill tim— he was reacting to tim being suspicious of him. tim was beefing with a ten year old. why are u being so mean to the ten year old? (We Know Why)
ur right — it is extremely one-sided. im not one to pretend that canon is flawless by any means, but acting as though fanon is better just because someone online came up with it is also stupid. there are many many racist undertones with how jtodd and tim are interpreted, both separately and with each other. a lot of it is yaoi baiting dynamics, that a lot of fans don’t seem to want to admit. i won’t comment on how white people writing jtodd as latino and tim as asian can be Bad but like…. it’s all tied up together. people want these two characters to have suffered the most, because that justifies everything fans want them to do. they want them to be wronged. they want their idea of justice in their name

“Would you like some tea?”
Jade offers you a cup of something that smells like lavender. You shake your head.
“I’m okay.” You turn your attention back to your screen. He sets the cup and saucer next to you anyway. “Who knows, maybe you’ve put a suspicious substance in it.”
“Is it so hard to believe that I can do something out of the kindness of my heart?”
You chuckle and shake your head. “You? Absolutely not. Give an inch and you take a mile.”
There’s a beat where he doesn’t reply. You look up at him, wondering if you’ve said something strange, but his back is turned as he walks to his seat. When he turns back around to settle in his chair, his expression stills like a frozen pond. Perfectly crafted, carefully unreadable.
A few hours have passed since his phone call. You’ve decided to work in Jade’s office today, thinking that you might get a clue or a burst of inspiration if one of the subjects of your thoughts is in close proximity. He doesn’t seem to mind. If anything, his quiet hums and constant catering to your needs indicates that he’s rather pleased. Aside from the cup of tea releasing a wispy veil of steam, there’s also a plate of cookies and a bowl of cherries on his desk beside you.
“A penny for your thoughts?”
You close your laptop and sigh. There are too many to count, all swirling in your head without rest.
“Still thinking about what you told me this morning.” You don’t want to address the bigger issue—that (Y/N) apparently forgot who you are—so you start small. “I didn’t expect you to actually fall asleep.”
“Neither did I.” Jade frowns in thought. “I imagine it is a result of too few hours of sleep throughout the week.”
“Even so, you said it yourself. You can’t sleep around strangers.” You drum your fingers on the desk. “Maybe you actually do feel at ease around her.”
“That is not the case.” His voice carries certainty that surprises you. When you glance at him, you notice that his mouth is set in a firm line. “I was quite unsettled when I woke up.”
“Huh.” You can imagine it. His shock at his lapse in vigilance. But even so, no matter how tired he is, he has never made this sort of blunder before. “I guess there’s a first for everything.”
A shadow passes over his face. He stands next to your chair and leans over you. His eyes stare straight into yours—piercing mismatched eyes with an almost magnetic pull.
“I will ask you the same question as last night. Do you really believe that manuscript is a reflection of things that will certainly come to pass?”
Your heart jumps. Is he using Shock the Heart? But a few seconds pass, and no words leave your lips. This is not his Signature Spell. This is Jade Leech asking you a sincere, serious question. Besides, you have no reason to lie.
“Like I said, I don’t know—”
“Then don’t talk and act as though it is.” Is that frustration in his voice? He maintains eye contact with you, and you feel as though you can’t look away. “I, for one, think a predetermined future is horribly boring. My actions dictated for me, every event predictable . . . . I would sooner abandon it all and throw caution to the wind. The only reason why I am following the manuscript is because it outlines a way to restore my parents’ health.”
His sentence ends on half a breath, as though he originally intended to say more. He doesn’t. You wait, but nothing comes out.
“And?”
He kneels beside your chair, no longer towering over you or crowding your space. When he speaks again, he is quiet. But in the silence of his office, you hear it clear as day.
“And because that is what you want.”
Many history textbooks praise the Sea Witch for her spells and potions. One of the most famous ones took away a mermaid’s voice. You wonder if this is what that mermaid felt like. A storm of thoughts, but none able to be processed by your vocal chords. Parted lips that leak no sounds. You stare, nonplussed.
Eventually, you manage to let out a breathy, barely-heard whisper.
“What?”
His Adam’s apple bobs. “That is the truth. If that is what you wish for, then I will do my best to live up to your expectations. I know your good friend (Y/N)’s life is difficult. I know you think that by following this manuscript, everyone will be happy, because that is what it says will happen.”
You continue staring. The words seem to pass through you. It’s as though you are sitting in a dream, your surroundings wavering and surreal. What is he saying?
“The truth is that I could simply care less about (Y/N). She is at most an acquaintance. The reason why I give her special treatment is because I know she is precious to you.” He keeps rambling. You get the sense that he has been keeping quiet about this for a while. “As for the matter concerning my parents. If we follow the story, there is still no guarantee that they will be cured. Even you said you do not know if the manuscript’s plot will certainly come to pass. If Vil Schoenheit refuses to help my family, we will think of another way. He is not the only alchemist or curse expert in the world.
“I will follow what you want. But do not ask me to fall in love with (Y/N). That is the one thing I cannot do.”
“Why?” Your brain feels like porridge. Nothing seems to be getting through it. You cannot reason out a single thing. Isn’t (Y/N) created to be loved? Aren’t they written to fit like a glove on each other’s fingers? You’ve read the story. There doesn’t seem to be a particular reason why the Jade in the story obsesses over her aside from spending time together. It doesn’t actually matter. It’s the author’s will that their love is written in the stars—and the pages of that damn manuscript. It’s the point of the entire plot. “Is there something you don’t like about her?”
“Do I need a reason for failing to fall in love?”
Your mind blanks. Does he need a reason? He has a similar line in the manuscript. Do I need a reason for falling in love? If you think about it, isn’t it the same? No matter how you try and reason out the answer, love is not a puzzle with a logical answer. There is no formula, no recipe, no surefire step-by-step manual that you can follow to ensure success. Sometimes a spark causes a flame, and sometimes it sizzles out and dies. There is nobody to blame for either outcome.
You can’t wrap your mind around it. Why. Why. Why. Your brain, constantly overflowing with thoughts, cannot leave this topic to rest. A puzzle without an answer leaves you feeling antsy. Not knowing everything is a sin to your conscience.
“That doesn’t make any sense.”
“That is how love tends to be.”
An unsatisfactory answer. You dig your nails into your palm.
“Then answer me this. Why do you follow what I want? Is it because I’m interesting? No, that’s not right. You just said following a pre-written script is boring, and that’s exactly what I told you to do. I don’t understand.”
“The script is boring. You are anything but.”
“Me? What have I done?”
He smiles, then, one wholly different from his polite masks or his teasing grins or even his unhinged laughter. It’s an expression you associate with the times he talks about his interests. The expression that blankets and scatters across his countenance like orange rays of the setting sun over ocean waves. A quiet and calm beauty. A fondness that he rarely allows to be seen.
“Did you know that when you have much on your mind, you look up to the sky? That is why you prefer rooms with windows. The attic in my home that you love so dearly is one such room, and you spend all your time there nestled on the window seat. On that topic, you prefer small spaces because it helps you feel secure while you think. This is because you tend to zone out, and it is easier to defend yourself when no threats can appear behind you.”
“Uh, this is more like a behavioural report than a reason.”
“I do adore observing your behaviour. Particularly when you are lost in thought. I find myself wondering what you’re thinking about. If you’ll share them with me. But oftentimes, you do not trust me enough to do so.”
You swallow hard. “It’s hard to.”
“Why is that? I’ve known you for fifteen years. Floyd has known you for just as long, Azul a little less. (Y/N) has only known you for one year. So why can’t you trust me?”
You fiddle with your fingers, no longer capable of meeting his gaze. This kind of outburst is not something you expected from Jade. How long has he been thinking this way?
“I can’t tell what’s going on in your head. That’s why. Everything you say or do just gives me more to think about. If you’re being genuine or not, if you’ll suddenly decide to turn on me, things like that.”
Hurt flashes in his eyes. His smile shifts from fond to rueful and raw desperation permeates his shaky voice. It sounds brittle, as though a well-aimed push would shatter it into infinitesimal pieces.
“Is it so inconceivable that I could do things for you without ulterior motives?”
You look away. “Only until it no longer serves your interests or amuses you. Even if I can’t trust you fully, I’m sure there’s at least some level of it between us. I mean, we see each other regularly. I even let you drive me home.”
“Yes, but I am afraid I am a greedy man. Anyone else turning their back on me would be tolerable, but you—if it’s you . . . . At least promise me this. Even if I turn on the entire world,” he declares quietly, “promise you will trust that I will not betray you.”
You open your mouth as though to reply. Nothing comes out. You try again, your fingers gripping your knees tightly.
“I think we’re too similar. We’re both too cautious. We both think too much. Because of that, I can’t let my guard down around you.”
“Yet that is exactly what fascinates me.” He places a hand over yours. “Trying to decipher your thoughts, wondering about the motivations behind your actions, these are all things I find myself enthralled by. Your brutality and decisiveness towards that which would benefit you, but your willingness to do anything for the people dear to you. Your cautious nature as you execute your bold plans. Every time I think I have you pinned down, I only unearth another layer. The mystery intrigues me. On the other hand, I cannot help but wish you would trust and open up to me a little more.”
“That’s contradictory.”
“I cannot help it.” He smiles wryly. “I am contradictory by nature, as are you.”
You study his hand that engulfs yours. Cool to the touch. Ungloved, too. You muster your resolve.
“Then promise you won’t lie to me.” You finally lift your gaze until it returns to his eyes. Clear eyes that have been by your side for years. The eyes of a liar and schemer. Ironic for the one who wields a Signature Spell that forces out the truth. But these are the eyes of Jade Leech, and you won’t try to make him be someone he isn’t. “Lie to everyone else, I don’t care. But don’t lie to me. You can try to trick me or give me half-truths. I’ll figure them out on my own. If I still get fooled, that’s on me. Just don’t outright lie.”
The pounding of your heart fills your ears. Then, it is replaced by the sound of his quiet laughter.
“I expected nothing less from you.” He brings your hand up to touch his cheek. It only lasts a moment before he lets go and stands back up, returning to his seat. “I give you my word. I will never lie to you again.”
You look at the teacup on the desk, the lavender tea inside now cooled. The untouched cookies and cherries. A soft clink rings out as you take the teacup and bring it to your lips. Sweet and fragrant. Even cold, the tea Jade brews is impeccable.

Ya bring up a point I’m sure not all monster lovers consider—- turning Kar’niss back being a goal of his would mean sacrificing my love for the freaky and remembering he’s just a guy with needs too. I imagine if there was a WISH spell, given their open-ended nature to do Anything with reality, you’d probably get access to one with only a few options of what to use it for in a limited game context. Probably it’d give you the offer to fix your other companions, or your own lingering plot issues—- could we see some Kar’niss reaction to Tav, after mulling it over (alone or among companions), truly deciding to use the WISH for him and/or let him use it (one of those ‘trust your companion will do the right thing’ moments). Bet they find the spell after robbing Lorroakan or somethin. (Though it’s a Wish Spell—- imagine a man so short sighted as to just wish to be without pain but not change so he can still ‘be of use’. Hopefully he’d have learned better about his worthiness by the time you found a WISH though).
Title: A Wish Come True
Word Count: 3,667
Spoiler Warning: Spoilers for Act 2 and Act 3
Characters: Gale, Astarion, gender-neutral Tav and Kar'niss
Summary: After a hard battle in the sorcerer's tower, Gale uncovers a hidden Wish spell scroll. Kar'niss is now faced with a tough decision; Use the rare scroll to break the drider's curse or remain as he is forever more?
***
It had been a hard fought battle in the sorcerer's tower but the group came out victorious. Lorroakan had been bested and his lifeless body had settled in the middle of the floor. Astarion was the first to root around the wizard’s quarters with Gale not far behind, both searching for powerful items and weapons they could pilfer for their journey. Gale’s sharp eye spotted a peculiar rosewood box in a corner with intricate swirls carved into the lid. He leaned in for a closer look and sensed that the chest was locked tight. Astarion also picked up on the notion and casually nudged Gale aside with his shoulder.
“Allow me,” Astarion said, chuffed.
Gale held up his hands and gave Astarion the chance to unlock the mysterious vessel. Retrieving his trusty lock picking tools he went to work. As he began to fiddle with it a magical aura pulsed from the box and a blast of magical fire surged from the base and onto the fumbling thief. Astarion’s clothes caught alight and made the vampire lurch from surprise and pain. He spun in circles, frantically slapping at the blaze that threatened to consume his clothes whole.
“AH! Hot, hot, HOT!” Astarion screeched.
Gale stood by, his blank expression mirroring his annoyance. He’d flick two fingers aside, a blue aura shrouding them before a downpour of water crashed over the ignited fop. This doused the fire as well as Astarion who now stood there, soaked but free from danger.
“Now, what have we learned, Astarion?” Gale asked.
The vampire’s upper lip rose, exposing his fangs, shooting the wizard a miffed glare.
“That’s right. When exploring a tower of sorcery, maaaybe let the seasoned wizard do the poking, hm?” Gale said, gesturing to himself.
Astarion rolled his eyes, his hands hurriedly squeezing out his hair before flinging his arms side to side to rid them of excess moisture.
“Fine. I doubt there is aught of interest in that chest anyway. Likely moth eaten robes and naughty paintings. Have at it, oh ‘mighty’ wizard.” Astarion gave a disingenuous bow in Gale’s direction, abandoning the chest in an effort to fix his drenched appearance.
Gale wasn’t put off by Astarion’s complaining, rather accustomed to it by this stage in their journey. Instead he put his focus on examining the chest with a more nuanced look. His keen arcane senses were able to detect the sheen of an enchantment that shimmered over the item as a whole. He outstretched his hands toward it, palms hovering inches above the lid, putting his full concentration in breaking the troublesome spell. His eyes took on a purple hue, his robes kicking out at his ankles crackling with magical energy. He called out a single word, willing the weave to do his bidding, assaulting the enchantment in an effort to break it. His determination paid off. The energy pushed from his palms covered the box and the shimmer that once dominated it’s surface shattered like fiberglass removing the danger.
“Ah, there we are.” Gale swung open the lid to peer inside curiously.
The coffer, at first, didn’t seem to contain anything of note just like Astarion predicted. A pile of old robes of various hues sat in a neatly folded pile. Gale picked them up to look them over and while they were of a fine make, they didn’t seem to have any significance beyond that. He frowned with the discovery, continuing to dig in hopes he’d discover more.
“Ah-ha! Utter trash, certainly not worth getting burned over,” Astarion said while wringing out his shirt.
“Mm no, there must be more. A sorcerer wouldn’t go through so much effort to protect worthless robes,” Gale replied.
This prompted Astarion to come closer to investigate once more. Gale cleared out everything leaving an empty chest. The vampire smirked as he leaned over, a knowing gleam twinkling in the corner of his eye.
“Oh darling, it seems we’ve been done in by a red herring. Cazador had many items of value, ones he’d not leave wittingly out in the open.” Astarion reached into the box and ran his smooth fingertips along the wooden walls of the container. He did so until he felt a discrepancy in the wood grain; An indent. “There you are.” He’d press the hidden button, a quiet double click of mechanisms heard within its walls. Both men watched while the false bottom of the box slid open revealing the true treasure beneath.
Astarion’s lips curled in a self-satisfied grin, leaning in closer to Gale to make cocky eye contact with him. “I suppose a rogue isn’t as useless in a tower of sorcery as you thought, HM?”
Gale side eyed his proud companion, palming the side of his face to gently push him away. “You’ve made your point, good work.”
Inside was a pouch of gold coin, a bizarre wooden wand painted red and gold with floral accents and a short stack of scrolls. Gale filtered through the items with some fascination, going through each scroll with fierce scrutiny. His snooping came to a halt when he read over one scroll in particular, his eyes increasing in size as the shock took hold. Astarion was in the process of dumping water from his boots when he noticed Gale’s frozen demeanor.
“What is it, what did you find?”
Gale didn’t answer his curious companion, instead whirling around to call down to the floor below. “TAV! You need to see this!”
All this time Tav was situated on the lower floor with Kar’niss who had sustained injuries during the battle. The drider had lowered himself to the ground so Tav had ease of access to his wounds. They were bandaging a cut on his arm when they heard Gale shouting from above. Tav’s brow crinkled in confusion and Kar’niss followed suit, both exchanging a glance. Before Tav could rush to Gale’s side the wizard was already climbing down the ladder with some urgency. Astarion followed behind, half dressed and damp but equally as curious as to his discovery.
“What’s going on?” Tav asked.
Gale handed over the scroll to them. “Here.”
They took the parchment and scanned over the text inscribed upon it, a creeping realization hitting them the further they read along. Their eyes darted to Gale, then to Kar’niss and back to the scroll, their fingers beginning to tremble.
“A wish spell,” they whispered.
This revelation sucked the air out of the room. Astarion’s jaw dropped with amazement while Kar’niss’ breath hitched in his throat. A silence fell over the massive study, each companion eyeing off the other, uncertainty and excitement palpable in their immediate vicinity.
Gale broke the silence first. “What do we do?
Tav pressed their lips into a thin line, soon turning to Kar’niss. “This is it, what we’ve been searching for. You can return to your true form, Kar’niss. Your suffering could come to an end, right here, right now.”
Kar’niss rose from his crouched position, his hand rubbing over his arm in a self-soothing gesture. He swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat while legs shuffled beneath him in an anxious dance.
“But...this spell, it’s incredibly rare and powerful, is it not? Why waste it on me? So much could be done with this power. If I suffer it is due to my own folly,” Kar’niss said.
Astarion bolted forward as if angered by the statement, his crimson eyes glaring up at the drider. “Have you learned nothing after traveling with us? I know it’s a difficult lesson to learn, it took me far too long as it was. But what happened to you is not your doing. You were a victim, same as I. Take the scroll and reclaim your life.”
Kar’niss shrunk when he was chided so, unable to maintain his gaze on Astarion for too long. His nervous energy didn’t seem to wane, undecided and skeptical of his own worth.
“It’s true, this spell is not easy to come by. We can only use it once. With that said, I know first hand what it is like to be toyed with by the divine. Yours is a particularly cruel case, Kar’niss. As far as we know this is the only way to undo what has been done. I think we can all agree that despite our myriad of problems, this is your best chance at freedom,” Gale said. “We have alternatives to tackle our afflictions, you do not.”
Tav looked between Gale and Astarion, mulling over their words and watching Kar’niss shuffle about nearby. They took time to think and finally made their approach. They stepped toward Kar’niss, lifting an arm to gently rest their palm at the center of his chest.
“This isn’t a choice for any of us to make. You know better than anyone what is in your better interest and I trust in your judgment. If you need time to think it through then take it, you don’t have to decide this very moment.” Tav took a step closer, a warm smile on their face. “What is important is that you make the choice, that it is of your free will. Know that we will support you no matter the road you take. You are not a waste, Kar’niss, not by a long shot.”
Kar’niss listened to what everyone had to say, observing all present with some trepidation. He glanced down at Tav, resting his clawed hand atop of the one pressed to his chest. Without a word he stepped away from the group needing a moment to think by himself.
The others afforded Kar’niss his much needed space, retreating to another part of the tower to continue their search for other useful items. He was still in shock, scarcely believing that they had found such a rare item, something that could change his life moving forward. He came to a stop near a large standing mirror propped on a nearby wall. The drider turned to face the reflective surface, seeing his own image projected right back at him. He jolted from the surprise of it, as if it was the first time he truly saw himself since his change. His legs carried him closer, crouching down to get a better look.
His torso was bloodied from the recent battle, bandages placed over his arms where he’d suffered ice damage. Those details were the easiest to ignore, instead focusing on how twisted his once beautiful visage had become. His fingers reached to feather across the many eyes scattered across his forehead, trailing down to the scarred gash across his lip, finally reaching the hardened chitin sealed along his jawline. His gnarled hand reached out to caress the surface of the mirror as if trying to console the reflection within, his gaze meeting the pair staring back at him. His eyes tread lower, spotting the spider body his torso was haphazardly melded to, his pedipalps trembling beneath his belly button. He snarled and jerked his head away from the mirror, the biting sting of tears starting to collect at the corners of his eyes.
Was he worthy of salvation? He thought back to all of the atrocities he had committed both under Lolth and the Absolute, complacent in the part he played, a willing puppet for their unspeakable crimes. Astarion’s words rang in his mind, the notion that he was a victim rather than a fervent contributor. Should he be punished forever for actions of his past, or could he move beyond it and become the person he was meant to be? Gale’s statements came to mind next, the idea that he had been toyed with by those he worshiped, that he had the opportunity for freedom. What did that mean for someone like him? He could never return to the Underdark, not as a drider or a drow. That home was forever lost to him. Did the surface offer him something more, something greater? Or would he know the same abuse just with different faces?
Tav’s statement crashed through the walls of self doubt and hesitation. This was...his choice? Could he trust himself to make it? He realized he knew one thing for certain, he wanted to stay with Tav at any cost. He didn’t wish to be a burden on them, forever doomed to defend a drider from the gawking and cruel masses who didn’t understand him. Their life together would never know peace so long as Tav had to play protector. There were many other things they couldn’t do as he was now, things he’d long since thought about but was too afraid to voice. He wanted to know love, to know happiness, two things that were always short of his grasp, just out of reach.
Kar’niss turned to look back at the mirror but with more determination in his expression. He examined himself once more, for the final time, his head lifting as if in defiance of what Lolth had made him. He’d give the mirror a shove, pushing it over and letting it shatter on the floor below.
“Never again.”
During this time the group had pilfered much of the area. Gale had taken to reading the many texts stored on the bookshelves while Astarion hung his clothes on the balcony to dry, parading around in his underwear with no shame. Tav rolled their eyes at the display.
“There are many robes scattered about you could wear in the meantime,” Tav grumbled.
“Yes but they’re old, and ugly. Besides I look stunning au naturel. Really, you should be thanking me for providing your eyes with such a feast.” Astarion swished his arm in an effeminate arc.
Tav groaned and slumped deeper in the chair they had sat upon. “I’m going to regurgitate that feast onto Lorroakan’s carpet if you don’t stop.”
Their prattling was interrupted when they heard the clicking steps of the driders return. Gale closed his book and Tav stood up, Astarion joining the pair to look upon Kar’niss, the air of expectation heavy around them.
“Have you made a choice?” Tav asked.
Kar’niss rubbed his hands together nervously, looking between the three so as to work up the courage to make such an announcement.
“I thought about what you’ve said, all of you. While I still...struggle to believe I am worthy of this gift, I don’t want to spend the remainder of my life in hiding. You found me at the worst point in my life. You could’ve killed me without a second thought, you spared me instead. You showed endless kindness and patience while I struggled to contend with my own mind, feelings I thought to be genuine. I can’t return to the Underdark and Lolth’s shadow will forever follow me. At least with this spell I have the chance to live on the surface with a modicum of peace. I—“ He trailed off, his expression twisted while he searched for the right words. “I want to be happy. I don’t know what that really means for someone like me but I’m willing to find out.” He’d take in a shaken breath. “Use it.”
All three spared a glance to one another, seeming pleased with his conclusion. Tav stepped forward to hold the scroll out to Kar’niss but the drider raised both hands in refusal.
“I think since Gale found the scroll, he should do the honors. That and I am worried I’ll word it wrong and botch the entire thing. I don’t want to make my condition worse,” Kar’niss said.
Gale chuckled and took the scroll from Tav. “A fair concern, I will be diligent with my phrasing. Are you ready?”
Kar’niss inhaled a deep chest full of air, his legs dancing shuffling beneath him once more. “I think so, yes.”
Tav wandered over, issuing a comforting squeeze to his hip. “Everything will be fine. We’re right here.” They’d then back away to give distance for the spell to work its magic.
Astarion and Tav kept their distance, the vampire taking Tav’s hand into his own to give it a reassuring squeeze. Despite all his fanfare he realized the importance of this moment for all involved. Gale stepped forward keeping a gap between himself and the anxious drider, holding up the scroll to focus on arcane concentration.
“I wish for the drider known as Kar’niss to be restored to his true form, complete and whole as the drow he was before Lolth’s cruel curse kissed his essence. Memories hale and intact, body rich and vibrant, freed of the evil rendered upon him against his will.”
As soon as the last word left Gale’s lips the scroll in his hands crumbled to dust, their particles glittering in the air. They floated over to Kar’niss and began to dance in a shimmering ring around him. Kar’niss looked around with an urgent jerk of his head, lifting his arms due to a tinge of fear striking his core. The particles grew in size and number until they formed a continuous beam of golden light, expanding to form a dome of radiance that concealed the drider in full. Gale, Astarion and Tav stood by, their eyes wide and breath baited. They couldn’t look away even as the light increased in intensity, unable to see what was happening within. Loose papers in the tower went flying, carried away by the breeze radiating from the churning sphere in the center of the room. All of them could feel the force of this magic and it’s near infinite power, crackling and buzzing with arcane energy of a grand magnitude. The swirling golden light started to shrink in on itself, a notion that made Tav step forward with concern. Was Kar’niss alright, what was happening to him?
Soon the sphere shrunk to half the size it had been prior to its conjuring, the shell cracking down the center and breaking away, portions of the dome flaking away and disintegrating from sight. Once the shell had all but faded away the only thing that was left behind was the glowing silhouette of a man on the floor, doubled over on his hands and knees. The aura steadily peeled away revealing the changed individual beneath. A doubled over drow male was left behind, his form naked and vulnerable. The trio nearby watched in stunned silence, waiting for a sign that the spell had truly done as advertised.
A soft groan rumbled from the man on the floor, his hands pushing himself up into a seated position. He was dazed but alive and healthy by all appearances. Shoulder length white hair curtained around his pale face, now cleansed of the eyes which had once dotted his brow. The hard carapace that once molded over his arms, chest and jawline were no where to be seen, leaving behind smooth flesh and darkened nipples. Most notable were the presence of legs, two instead of eight, thighs muscular and firm. Kar’niss held up his hands which had begun to shake, looking them over in awe. His fingers were smooth rather than jagged and rough, able to bend his fingers with more flexibility than he had prior. He ran his palms across his face, particularly his forehead, noting the absence of the additional orbs he once carried. Finally, he glanced down to see his legs and genitals, all as they had been once upon a time. A choked gasp surged from his throat as the reality of it all began to set in. He was back to himself.
Tav rushed into action once they assessed the situation. They ran over and grabbed a loose blanket draped over a nearby chair, darting to Kar’niss’ side. They dropped to their knees in front of him, draping the garment over his shoulders to stave off the incoming chill.
“Kar’niss, are you alright? How do you feel?” Tav asked.
The drow didn’t know what to say at first, still patting over his torso and thighs in an effort to make sure this wasn’t a dream. He shook his head, mouth hanging agape, a swell of something building in his chest that he hadn’t felt in an age; Joy. His trembling lips pulled into an emotional smile, throwing his arms out to wrap them around Tav. Pulled into the vice grip of a hug Tav promptly laughed from surprise and relief, their arms threading around his torso to return the gesture enthusiastically.
“Th-Thank you...thank you…” Kar’niss whimpered, his face buried in Tav’s neck.
Tav bit their lower lip while stroking the back of his hair, leaning more into the embrace.
“You did most of the work, Kar’niss. This is your victory as much as it is ours. I’m proud of you.”
He bit back a sob from such a heartfelt statement, fingers curled into the small of Tav’s back. He leaned away enough to make eye contact with them, his body radiating overwhelming emotion. He cupped Tav’s face and brought them in for a kiss, one that he put every ounce of his body and soul into. Tav returned the affection with equal vigor, clinging to the man they adored so.
As the pair embraced Gale and Astarion stood by, looking on with their own sense of pride and joy at the outcome. Gale glanced Astarion’s way.
“You really couldn’t have put on some clothes for this monumental, once in a lifetime moment?” Gale grunted.
Astarion scoffed and waved a hand about dismissively. “Darling, they’re not paying one speck of attention to me. For once, that’s a good thing, mw-ha! Besides, my near nudity will likely help Kar’niss feel less self conscious about his own.”
Gale chuckled and propped his arm on Astarion’s shoulder, leaning into him while looking Tav and Kar’niss’ way.
“True enough, Astarion. True enough.”
Tav and Kar’niss continued to hold and kiss one another, filled with relief and hope for what future lay ahead. This was the beginning of a new journey for the pair, one that they were ready to face together.
To the very end.

Have you noted that no one from Azula's family was shown to express love and affection towards her?
That is mostly true. Ozai's affection is clearly conditional (and full on manipulation at worse, like we see in the finale), Ursa canonically favors Zuko to the point that we never see her spending any alone time with Azula like she did with Zuko, and while Iroh gave her a toy like he did to Zuko the toy in question was so OBVIOUSLY wrong for a kid like Azula that it's comical AND show's he did not really know his niece at all.
But there is a constant exception.
Tumblr media
Zuko's relationship with Azula is complicated. He clearly admires her strength and power, but he hates how she uses it. She lied to him many times, was seen apparently cheering Ozai on during the Agni Kai, tried to have him imprisoned and even said she'd celebrate being an only child - and then allows him to come home as a hero after Ba Sing Se, even though SHE had the control of the Dai Li and was not yet aware Aang could have survived, meaning she had nothing to gain from it.
And when she lets him know that if he's caught talking to Iroh people might think he is a traitor too, and explicitly says "Believe it or not, I'm actually looking out for you" Zuko drops his innitial suspicion that she wanted something and that's why she was helping him.
On The Beach, he just follows her when she say their old family home is depressing and they shouldn't waste their time there. When she's asking him who she is angry at, she mentions herself and Zuko explicitly says that is not the case.
He doesn't trust her and know she has a tendency to mock or full on lie to him... yet when he wants to know about Fire Lord Sozin he asks her about it, and lets it slide when she mocks him by saying he should make sure the royal painter got his good side - for a character as quick to anger as Zuko, that is a big deal. In Nightmares and Daydreams he also goes to her to find out if he'll be allowed at the war meeting.
More importantly:
1 - Iroh's infamous "She's crazy and needs to go down" line was only said because ZUKO, without anyone putting that idea in his head before, suddenly went "I know what you're going to say. She's my sister and I should be trying to get along with her"
2 - Zuko only jumped into the fight in Ba Sing Se when Azula was being cornered by Aang and Katara.
3 - Zuko looked genuinely shocked and even distressed when she was falling off that cliff. He just sounded so shaken saying "She's... not gonna make it..."
4 - In the writer's own words, Zuko felt no hate but only pity when seeing her breakdown. Katara tried to comfort him because, canonically, even though Zuko and Azula are enemies, this was never what he wanted because he still sees her as family. That's why the Last Agni Kai's music is not the epic you'd expect from a battle, but a tragic one.
5 - Aaron Ehasz, the lead writter for the show, probably the person with the most influence after Bryke, has REPEATEDLY said that he always felt Azula should have gotten a redemption arc, Zuko being an Iroh figure to give her advice and be the only one still by her side when all else was seemingly lost to her forever.
Even the comics (most of which I HATE, mainly because Azula's storyline checks nearly every box for "the mentally ill are inherently evil/less human, so it's fine if literally every other person on the planet mistreats them") didn't fully abandon their complex dynamic.
Tumblr media
Zuko is not a perfect sibling, and for a long chunk of the story he seemed too focused on his own issues for Azula to ever be a factor in his mind (aside from the moments in which she was a potential/explict threat), but he DOES still feel a sense of obligation towards her, to the point that it made him do something no one else in their family had done before or since - actually look at Azula. Not the prodigious daughter/perfect weapon, or the problem child that is difficult to handle, or the pontentially deadly enemy that was in the way, but Azula.
His 14-year-old sister that got on his nerves a lot, was far from the kindest person alive, and that he had a ton of issues with, but that he could never fully hate or even be indifferent to. Because she's family. Because he remembers a happier time in which the gap between them didn't seem so big. Because if things had been slightly different he could have been her. Because he went from wanting to be her to seeing just how miserable her life ended up being - especially compared to the one he now had - and feeling deeply sorry for her.
Now if you guys excuse me, I'm gonna go cry in the corner. Have some wholesome/bittersweet fanart if you wanna cry too.

Nobody acknowledges that Misako has trauma, man. Like tbf the show doesn't really either, but that's kinda ninjago's thing. The fandom examines the traumatic experiences of everybody else regardless of canon, but not her. Even with Wu, who I see plenty of mixed opinions on, nobody ignores that he dealt with some traumatic things. But Misako is just bad, magically, and it doesn't make sense.
When you take a look at her story without the fandom lenses, it's really quite compelling. Her husband, the man she trusted enough to have a child with, took a sudden sharp turn downwards from what had previously been a manageable condition, tried to go commit a crime, and then was banished to the underworld. This left her as a single mom dealing with the grief of losing Garmadon in one of the most messed up ways possible, with a child who she knows in her gut is the chosen one to battle him someday. A child who looks just like him. Who she has to protect. But how? She can't give him to Wu, who would train him and set him further on the path of the prophecy. Wu, who sent her husband to the depths the second he became at all violent. Wu who has already lost one student to misuse of this prophecy. There's no one she can trust.
And frankly, I wouldn't blame any woman in her position for giving up her child, especially if it was supposed to be temporary. Being a mother is now terrifying and probably very triggering. Being an archeologist is a way she knows she can help. So she leaves. Maybe it's weak, maybe it's strong, maybe it's loving, maybe it's cold. It was the decision she thought was best at the time in a situation with no good options. And I think it's reasonable to assume that in itself is traumatic, since she tells Lloyd later it was the hardest thing she ever had to do.
Did it traumatize Lloyd and give him abandonment issues? Yes. But the circumstances were going to be bad no matter what.
I truly think the two writing choices that made her seem so terrible to people were
1. Darkley's School for Bad Boys. Like who sends their child to that. It seems like it was invented as a gag and then when they went to develop more backstory they just...didn't think of how that made sense
2. The weird hecking romance between her and Wu that just made her seem disloyal and took so much screen time away from actually developing her. I'm still mad at them for that.
But aside from those main two things, she's actually a really interesting character and it's disappointing to see that go unnoticed because people can't handle her making decisions that hurt other characters.

I wonder what it would be like for Splinter if he fell in love? This isn't an xreader thing, for obvious reasons. It's just a scenario I haven't really seen explored for his character, and I'm curious how you'd portray it.
Hello! I wasn’t sure which version of Splinter you wanted, so I did both! Also, I could write a splinter x reader if someone requested it (not sure what you meant by 'obvious reasons' /lh), I did not make this one a splinter x reader tho ^^
2012 Splinter
Oh Hamato Yoshi, a man of so little yet so many words-
It takes him a bit to actually fall in love
He is hesitant about pursuing another romantic relationship
Is genuinely traumatized from his last one
Rightfully so, he saw his wife die, daughter as well (or so he thought for years) all at the hands of someone he onced called his brother- only to get mutated soon after.
Yeah… not a very good experience…
But when he falls, he is absolutely devoted to his person
He is very formal, approaching his crush in a gentlemanly manner
Is kinda old fashioned
The type to bring flowers and open doors for his partner
When he was with Tang Shen, he ended up losing sight of what was important
And became very distant and dismissive
He knows better now, and makes sure to go out of his way to pay attention
He does still struggle though,
Often choosing to meditate over quality time
As his relationship grows, however, he becomes better at being present.
Makes sure to set time aside for his partner
He doesn’t mind doing whatever, but he does prefer quieter activities-
A drama show perhaps, or drinking tea together.
As he becomes more relaxed in his relationship-
His playful side emerges
And surprisingly- he can be very goofy
I mean- he has a cheese phone in a glass case. He chose that. It’s meant for serious emergencies- you can’t tell me he wasn’t making a joke about his current mutation.
He tells dad jokes- really corny ones too
And his laugh is a full-on belly laugh where he throws his head back
He enjoys making his beloved laugh,
Will sometimes even ask Michelangelo for any new jokes to tell!
Overall, he's very sweet, goofy and old-fashioned with his partner,
He is also incredibly protective- perhaps a bit over protective
But considering the fact that he and his family are being hunted down by the man who killed his last wife-
His over protectiveness is warranted.
Does NOT take chances- if his beloved is captured, he is going there and demolishing anyone who gets in his way.
Makes sure his beloved is okay, before taking them home to curl up and watch some old drama show
Cheese-sicles included.

Rise Splinter
This may or may not come as a surprise-
But I honestly think it takes him a while to truly fall in love with someone
I feel like he has some trust issues
Definitely has high walls when it comes to relationships
Being a popular celebrity back in day taught him a thing or two about letting people get too close
Most people were usually only after him for his fame and fortune-
Looking to use him to rise to the top themselves
So he made sure to keep a decent distance
Until Big Mama of course
Which only made his trust issues 100x worse.
If he were to fall in love again, it would only be after a long time
There needs to be a very strong, and very solid foundation of trust
He would like to avoid being locked up and forced to fight to the death again, thank you very much.
On top of his trust issues-
He has major abandonment issues
If he ever went through with trying to have another relationship,
There would need to be a lot of communication-
Lots of working on and assuring him that his partner isn’t going anywhere.
As for his behavior??
He’s very avoidant in a rather outgoing way
It’s kinda weird to witness actually
The second he realizes he actually has romantic feelings for someone- he’s panicking
Tries to avoid them but also makes sure to be nice
He’s nowhere in sight whenever his crush is around but if they happen to catch him?
He’s chatting up a storm, sitting them down for a cup of tea or some food
Casually handing them a slice of pizza and once their attention is on it
Poof- vanished from sight once they turn around.
Once he starts actually giving a relationship a try though??
Man is whipped with a capital W
THE BIGGEST SIMP EVER
Quality time??? Physical touch???? GIFT GIVING??!?!?!!
His crush is getting it all
Quality time is an absolute must, he always wants to be around them no matter what it is they’re doing.
Knitting? He’s there.
2am snacks?? He already has their favorite
Movie time???? He made sure his projector is completely repaired AND made the couch the comfiest spot ever.
Loves to cuddle and hold hands, generally likes to be in contact with his beloved in anyway he can
Will even wrap his tail around one of their limbs if his hands are full
*cough* or if he’s too lazy to move from his comfy position *cough*
And on top of that?? He actually has decent money from his time as Lou Jitsu
He can and will have his sons help him figure out online ordering.
His beloved is getting any and everything they want
Only the best for them, he makes sure to buy top quality items
A lot of the gifts are an eyesore to look at though- his personal taste is…. intense…
Thankfully, his family helps him out.
Overall a very attentive, but clingy, partner
Will proudly boast about his beloved to anyone who asks (or doesn’t)
Has one of those wallets with the long long photo strips
He shoves them in everyone’s faces
Tumblr media
I hope you enjoyed!! Apologies for the long wait;;

I was thinking about the narrative implications of Eclipse and KC both being from the kill code a couple of days ago.
When KC first shows up as his own character, both he and Eclipse mention the fact that they are both kill codes. They are, theoretically, the same exact thing. Eclipse was made when Moon tried to rip the kill code out of his head, and KC was rebuilt from the leftovers that Moon couldn’t get rid off. KC called Eclipse his son, but in all honesty, that’s technically incorrect. They would have been more like twins.
Anyways, relations aside, Eclipse and Killcode were the same thing. The biggest difference between them, the thing that started KC’s redemption arc? He was shown kindness. Just pure, simple kindness, from someone he technically barely knew.
A lot of people like to say Eclipse was shown kindness when he first showed up. Once again, loud incorrect buzzer noises. He was trapped in the back of Sun’s head for 10 months, if this was calculated correctly. Nearly a year of stewing in abandonment, neglect, and torment. Sun and Moon did try to offer help once Eclipse made himself know, Moon offering a new body and Sun offering friendship, but there wasn’t much else. A new body wasn’t going to help, he felt Moon had his body. And Eclipse was too hurt to take the offer of friendship. Plus, he probably felt like it was given just to pacify him for a time, so they could figure out a permanent way to get rid of him behind his back. It does not matter if they unknowingly did it, they both hurt Eclipse in terrible ways. His trust issues are through the roof. In his mind, either what they offered simply wasn’t enough to excuse their actions, or they were handing him a ticking time bomb.
So no. To Eclipse, he was never offered kindness.
But here’s Killcode. Glamrock Freddy may have thought he was talking to Moon, but he was being kind. There was no reason for Freddy to be kind to KC, and yet he was. He showed him how much Moon, and KC inadvertently, was still loved by the children he used to care for. That one little interaction helped KC see good.
We already know Solar is meant to both parallel and contrast Eclipse. He’s supposed to show what Eclipse could have been had Sun found him sooner. But he isn’t the only one. Killcode was also a very strong parallel to Eclipse, and showed Eclipse’s potential had kindness been given sooner.
I feel like I keep repeating this over and over in this post, but it’s literally all Eclipse needed. One moment of compassion that he would be able to understand underneath all his hurt and paranoia. He’d probably latch on to that person like a leech without even understanding why he’s doing it. Having some sort of mediator between Eclipse and Sun and Moon would have been a huge help too.
He just needs someone to care about him.

Color in DFF: Part 2
Okay so here I have a post where I run down some of the way DFF is using color in the past (at least for ep 5-6). But there's even more to unpack in episodes 1-4. I'll have to return to color when more episodes are out cause I'm sure there'll be more clarity and layers to add. But for now let's jump to the present!
Shout out again to @slayerkitty for brainstorming with me!
In part 1 I came to this conclusion:
There are basically 3 groups of colors.
Blue=the friend group, conformity, those trying to harm or coerce others
Red=Non, poverty, outsiders and those with stigma
Yellow=A third category, not in lock step with the group, outliers
So what about the present?!
There's a lot going on with color:
-It show's the character's flaws and desires
-It signals romantic pairing(s)
-It conveys group dynamics and insider/outsider status
On top of that we have people changing colors and exchanging them
Importantly in the present we start getting more than just the strict primary colors groups. Our group is less in sync and now that they've had time to grow up and be apart there's less conformity and cohesion, more fracture. We could argue that more of their own colors are able to come out rather than be subsumed in just blue (though a few characters definitely stick to blue still).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let's start at the beginning. For a number of these boys their color represents their worse traits and fatal flaws:
Tumblr media
Por is in a pale green. This clearly represents his VERY deep relationship with nature (sorry not sorry). It also can represent rebirth which means he isn't dead yet.
Okay, joking aside, green can can represent greed and jealousy. Certainly things relevant to Por who both has it all and still constantly wants and needs more (especially affection from his father) and is willing to take credit from Non to get it. This greed obviously contributed to the way everything spiraled in the past.
Green can also indicate sickness, nausea, and disgust. Por often expresses disgust towards Non, wiping his hand off after touching him. We even get him and Top reacting with disgust in the opening scenes when Fluke is puking.
On one more note, there are cultures that would group green and blue in as the same color so perhaps we can still see him as not so separate from the group as we might think.
Tumblr media
Tee and Top are still in blue. These two are dedicated to hiding the truth and protecting themselves. Blue can also indicate loyalty and trust as well as confidence. Tee clearly has an issue with loyalty in both the past and the present. He's quick to throw his friends under the bus but does so while hiding this to still fit in. In the present he struggles with whether to abandon White or protect him. Top on the other hand is over confident, constantly wanting fame and attention.
Tee in particular is interesting because of his tie die shirts. They always mix blue with another color, just like he mixed blue with red in the past. Now it's a pink. Perhaps this means his money troubles have lessened or that he mentally feels less of an outsider or weirdo than when he added red in the past. Or perhaps it shows his strained loyalty to White, containing a color other than blue but not quite orange.
Tumblr media
This is certainly the case in a later episode when he changes his t-shirt to blue and orange. I'll mention this later but White is introduced in orange. So Tee's colors show his dedication to the group, his continued attempts to hide secrets that harm people, and his battle between running or staying to protect White.
Tumblr media
While Tee switches to orange and blue, Top switches to yellow and white. He makes the switch before he goes off with Tan and returns to kill Por. The yellow is a stark change. Unlike Tee who retains his blue, Top loses it completely. He's in yellow, marking him as an outlier. Is he possessed? Drugged? In any case he is operating without any affinity to the group at this point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We don't know much about Tan yet, but he's also in blue. He starts in a blue button up and then switches to darker blue with gray underneath. This is a bit odd since he's the most vocal about pushing the old group to reveal what happened in the past. Yet he isn't wearing orange (Phi and White), red (Non), or yellow (outlier). In fact, unlike our other characters he doesn't mix in other colors or change his color at all. It feels very sterile, as if he is operating under different rules. So either he is just part of the group and likely fodder, working with Phi, or up to his own plan. Regardless I think at this point he is probably hiding his color, or rather the show is hiding his color from us for a later reveal of some kind.
Tumblr media
Fluke is in purple. It's a balanced mix of blue and red, marking the way he acts as a bystander. He is in the group but not necessarily at the center of it. It also represents ambition, which Fluke clearly has in spades. So much so that as he tries to protect his ambitions, he makes things so much worse.
Tumblr media
Interestingly, when Fluke changes clothes he still chooses purple, but his collar has a stripe of red. This of course is what he wears as he starts to crack, ultimately confronting Tee about what happened to Non. The blood on Fluke's hand adds more red.
Tumblr media
Jin is in pink and a dark blue or grey. He later switches to a dark blue shirt. So part of him is still attached to the group (blue) but he also operates in a faded pink. Pink can represent love and compassion. We know that Jin acts as the kind one of the group generally. Interestingly this is quite a faded pink, perhaps representing how Jin, despite being kind (or at least having a kind exterior) is quite jaded. He's lost his rose-tinted glasses and they've become a washed out pink.
He no longer is in yellow. Does this mean at some point he failed to push back on the group in an important way? Why is he still with the group and wearing blue/gray colors? Does the fact he's wearing pink, a faded red mean he's still dedicated to Non?
Clown theory: Non was in pink in the preview for episode 7, so does this mark Jin as a romantic pairing with Phi? Does it mean Non died and possessed Jin's body (🤡)?
Tumblr media
Phi and White both have orange to start with. They're odd ones out. Interestingly, Phi also has on a denim shirt, making him outwardly seem to match Tee and Top, but the orange shows his true colors. This is very fitting given we know he's up to something (most likely revenge) and not genuinely trying to be a part of the group.
Orange is also partway between red and yellow. If we go by the past, Phi has had something going on with both Non (red) and Jin (yellow, past). Interestingly in this opening shot Phi's backpack moves from blue (his disguised allegiance to the group) to orange (his outsider status) and red (his allegiance to Non). But he is also next to Jin whose pink could be seen as a version of red.
White has orange but like Phi he has blue as well. Does this mean that White is aligned with Phi or is it just a way to signal that White is also a newbie to the group? If so why is Tan not in orange too? Is White Non's brother?
Tumblr media
Both Phi and White remove their orange as things progress. Interestingly they both keep the same touches of blue but change to neutral white/light gray tones. They're blending in now, either by force of the situation or in order to hide their intentions. But compared to Tan, we at least see them operating in other colors first.
Tumblr media
One last thing of note here. Phi wraps his outer shirt around Jin to brace his shoulder. This completely removes the blue from Phi and gives it to Jin. Is this a color exchange? But blue isn't Phi's color, so does is this an act of protection or is Phi marking Jin as a target?
And what does it mean that Phi is now purely in white--an absence of color? Or is white his color? If so, then what about White?
We've gone from 3 primary colors in the past to a mix of colors in the present. On top of that we have white too, an interesting contrast? pairing? with the black of the mask costume.
Okay this has been equally as much analysis as questions. I'm excited to revisit this when we have even more episodes and information to see what the patterns are here!

Century Egg! Wukong is going to make Macaque grovel before letting him anywhere near him again and it's going to be so amusing for his brothers to finally see the 'father' who had apparently abandoned Wukong at his lowest point get his karma. Even Tripitaka is amused by the interactions, although he feels Wukong could bear to be a bit nicer to his own spouse. Little does he know, Wukong had already forgiven Macaque the moment he went down on one knee for him. It's just that Macaque had hurt him, deeply, and he doesn't want to trust him again so easily.
The Pilgrims do, however, reciprocate in Macaques initial dislike of them. They understand he's there for his mate and child. They respect it, but that doesn't mean they have to like him. Wukong is only with them right now because Macaque had proven himself an unreliable mate who would abandon his love at his lowest, and at that point into the journey, even Baije would be extremely offended on Wukong's behalf. They hadn't known Wukong had been married until they met Macaque, but they all kinda assumed he had to have someone to be found in the state Tripitaka had found him, and that someone had either died or abandoned him.
Now they know it was the latter and just who it was who had done so. And they had introduced themselves in possibly the worst way they could have.
i think you mean the "jttw stone egged au", but I agree with your sentiments.
The Pilgrims sorta look over Macaque in the au like; "So you abandoned your mate/spouse at his lowest point over an argument for about 500 years, and you left him with child? And you decide the best way to reintroduce yourself was to try and kidnap him from us/kill his pilgrim brothers?? Yeah, we don't like you either buddy."
Tripitaka also doesn't like Macaque at first, but he's a lot quieter about it. He weakly protests when Wukong kicks Mac from their nightly nesting spot, and when Wukong hisses at him in distaste. The monk may not understand the ins and outs of complicated relationships, but he understands that Mac and Wukong hurt eachother badly in the past and even if Mac is trying his best to make it up to them, Tripitaka knows Wukong's trust is fractured.
Sha Wujing observes mainly from the sidelines. He's good at getting the root of emotional issues. He knows that the monkeys need time to rebuild what they once had together. Is likely the first to forgive Mac fully.
Ao Lie huffs loudly at Mac, but he gets that he's here now and is trying to help and at least is protecting Wukong as a good mate should. Doesn't mean that the dragon-horse can't be petty at times; there are moments where Wukong is allowed ride on Ao Lie's back while Mac is pointedly bucked off into the mud.
Zhu Bajie loudly voices his offence and disgust at the Macaque. Esepcially in regards to how he treated his dear eldest Pilgrim brother during the break up and how he tried to you know, kill Bajie under the assumption that he had violated his mate (the pig is like "Ew no. TF you think I'd do that to somebody?" and Mac replies "You creeped super hard on my sister [Chang'e] dude." "Ah, fair.") But he's not mindlessly upset - Bajie is a perceptive guy after all... he understands a certain side of Mac's story that the others don't
Macaque doesn't really care for their judgments, they hadn't been there. They didn't see what kind of person Wukong was becoming during the war.
Except a certain pig...
Zhu Bajie: "What was it like?" Macaque: "Huh?" Zhu Bajie: "Living with him I mean. I saw him fight in heaven when I was still a Marshal. It was like watching a supernova with a fist. All fight, no talk." Macaque: "..." Zhu Bajie: "Must have been scary... seeing your mate like that. Destroying everything in his path, throwing enemies and old friends aside like driftwood, not able to be reasoned with. Almost like... you wonder if he'd ever do it to you." Macaque: *looks away in shame* Zhu Bajie: "Look, I'm still pissed that you abandoned him at his lowest point... but I do understand why. I've suffered enough broken hearts to tell when someone didn't feel safe staying in a relationship. It's uh... sorta why I panicked when I realised Cuilan had become afraid of me..." Macaque, changing the subject: "You're comparing me to your ex-wife?" Zhe Bajie, goes along with it: "You're not as pretty." *defused laughter*
But yeah, this shadow monkey does need to make it up Big Time to Wukong, the Pilgrims, and his people as a whole. Even if the Stalwarts were able to "Hold down the fort" so to say, Mac still abandoned the island as it's regent to seek out Wukong in a frenzied revenge plot.
Wukong does take the opportunity to make Mac obey him like a true Warrior to his King. And if the Warrior's duties include grooming the King's fur (cus no one else in the party can do it right), and feeding the king peaches; then thats Wukong's business.

Book Review 65 – System Collapse by Martha Wells
Tumblr media
I’ve had this on preorder long enough to have entirely forgotten about it by the time I got the email that it’s available for pickup – but thanks to the magic of an extremely obliging local book store, I was still able to pick up and read the entire thing before it’s technically released. So score one for buying indie, I guess.
The book is set directly after Network Effect – directly directly, to the point where I needed to look up a plot summary to remind myself what the situation was – following our beloved rogue and rampant SecUnit, ART, and their assorted humans as they try to convince an abandoned and alien-contaminated colony’s inhabitants to trust them and accept evacuation with them (and also go along with the colonial charter they’re forging) rather than the indenture offers the corporate mission also on site are offering. Along the way there’s hacking, shuttle chases, gunfights, and plot-critical media curation.
Mostly though it’s about Murderbot having PTSD (on account of all the horrible trauma in Network Effect specifically, and also just its life generally) and absolutely zero idea how to cope. After a false memory/panic attack makes it crash out of nowhere it spends the majority of the book terrified that it’s going to crash or freeze up at some vital moment and get everyone killed, dealing with constant alien-related paranoia, and generally second-guessing itself and feeling useless and depressed. Absolutely no one around it has any idea how to deal with this, and their awkward attempts to be supporting are both endearing and entirely unhelpful.
Anyway, this is a Murderbot novel. Do you like Murderbot? Then you will like this. Do you not know the series? Then by god start with All Systems Red none of this will make any sense at all without context. Do you dislike murderbot? I mean hateread as you like but it is largely more of the same, don’t expect any series-saving twists for you.
It’s kind of absurd to call the series ‘cozy fantasy’ – by the end of the book SecUnit is down several extremities and bleeding out on the floor (as is traditional by this point) – but I feel like the series fills about the same emotional niche for me as like say Becky Chambers does for people with normal tolerances for low-tension sentimentality. The setting is a horrible dystopia and the plots are full of violence and trauma, but all that is more or less set dressing to stories that are actually about SecUnit making connections and deciding at a tortuously slow pace what sort of life it wants to have (usually several hours after commuting itself without thinking) while consistently running into the best possible friends and forming mutually affectionate relationships it absolutely did not want. It’s a story about fun, low-tension character dynamics, corporate kill teams aside.
I am being entirely sincere when I say the fact that SecUnit has no idea what it wants or what its doing is a selling point. In the same way, the fact that there’s never any real ~breakthrough~ or moment of sudden recovery is absolutely key to the book working. The story closes with it being hopeful and doing better but from any remotely reasonable baseline still being pretty far from ‘okay’ (in much the same way, it is utterly vital to the whole series that it has absolutely zero angst over ‘not being human’ or pinochle syndrome and only cares about ‘not being normal’ insofar as its had to work really hard on some automated scripts for walking and idle motions to pass as human while doing infiltration work).
Anyway, speaking of character dynamics – look, I’ve always been the first to roll my eyes when people complain about not being able to keep tracks or large casts. But every time I open one of these books, I realize I have only the vaguest idea who the vast majority of the (human) supporting cast is. Not really an issue with actually following the story, but I’m absolutely certain I’m missing out on some things.
The non-human supporting cast are great though. ART best spaceship, and I cared significantly more about the colony’s central control computer than any of the actual colonists. I’m like 70% sure this is intentional.
Stepping back, it’s interesting how the series’ setting has evolved over time. In All Systems Red the universe around SecUnit was incredibly broadly sketched, generic sci f playing with space opera and cyberpunk tropes it pretty much relied upon readers already being familiar with. This never exactly stops – especially for the aesthetics and technology, the book has a profound lack of interest in the specifics of what ‘projectile weapons’ look like or how spaceships work beyond the convenience of plot – but as the books go on the world definitely gets more specific and also broader. You can mostly blame ART for this, I think – there’s a definite shift in the tone of the setting when you introduce an institution like the University with power like it can throw around, and more generally make active resistance to and subversion to the corporate status quo a plausible and fruitful endeavour.
All this to say that there’s an offhand mention at one point about ‘intracorporate violence’ increasing and the system being increasingly unstable, and I’m curious what Wells is going to do with that going forward. Especially with the book’s final resolution and the status quo it sets up going forward.
Anyway like I said, it’s murderbot. This is the 7th book in the series. If you’re considering reading it you’ll probably love it.
