synopsis !! spoilers/ you know nahida's story quest where people dreamt of people they miss? so they didn't wanna wake up? yes. you're their greatest source of grief.

contains !! gn reader, grief themes, angst/comfort? or is it angst/angst. messing with the original plot of nahida's quest but the idea remains the same. team dynamics! can be considered sagau /playable au. character death mentions aka me exploring all the ways to make mc gone

AL HAITHAM

// cause I knew you / steppin' on the last train / marked me like a bloodstain, I / I knew you / tried to change the ending

All he did was blink. He knew what he was getting himself into when the traveler and the dendro archon explained the situation; people in grief didn't want to wake up. He knew they were entering a dream realm that targeted the vulnerable. He knew he might see you— but it's been years and this dream version of you is simply a fake, this means little to him now, right?

Yet, in one blink, the city of Sumeru disappeared and what he saw instead was—

"(Name)." He mutters under his breath, barely.

"Who's that?" The traveler turns to him.

"Haitham!" You greet, voice cheery, unchanged, the exact replica down to every detail. He feels his face shift in expression, his hand raises, reaches out before he could even realize it himself and—

He blinks again. You're gone.

"Huh? They disappeared!" Paimon squeaks, flying behind the traveler, "Like a ghost! That was sooo scary."

The blonde looks on thoughtfully, "Was. . that someone you know, Al Haitham?"

Snapping out of his daze, he takes a step back.

". . . someone I knew. Yes." He straightens himself, looking away. "Let's keep going. There's no time to waste."

KAEYA

// peter losing wendy, I / I knew you / leavin' like a father / running like water, I / and when you are young, they assume you know nothing

Jumping from portal to portal, trying to find the dream host with the traveler was exhausting. Kaeya was beginning to question why, of all the characters on the team, he had to come along (then again, such events were always fun).

It was a relief when a portal landed him in Starfell Valley. The breeze ruffling through his hair, sweet flowers and cecilias gently leaning to the wind, and—

You, holding onto your wind glider, waving at him from a distance.

"Well? Aren't you going to teach me how to fly?" You yell out, huffing theatrically.

Ah, yes. Kaeya remembers this. His footsteps take him forward, closer to where you are. Grass brushing against him with every step.

"Kaeya?" You tilt your head.

He remembers this. He was supposed to teach you, you were supposed to take your license exam in a few days, you were nervous—

Archons, you were nervous and a little scared and he brushed it off. He was a natural at gliding and he believed you'd get over it and glide as easily as he could.

Then he looked away. Just for a second —a single second— and an updraft lifted you higher than you were used to. And you struggled to control your wings. And you tumbled. And there was a cliff—

Oh, Stormbearer Point used to be so lovely until he lost you.

"Kaeya, are we going to start glidi— oomf-"

His arms wrap around you, bringing you close, holding you to himself. He lets a hand rest on the glider you held on one hand, pushing it away, aside, further from you –because how dare that wretched thing fail you– until it falls to the grass.

"Kaeya? What's wrong?"

"Can we–" He nearly sobs, a lump in his throat as he holds back, ". . . Can we not do this today?"

He feels your own arms wrapping around him. It's the closest he could get to remembering your warmth.

"Alright. . . it's alright, Kae, I'll learn to glide on another day," You whisper softly, "There's always next time."

TIGHNARI

// but I knew you'd linger like a tattoo kiss / I knew you'd haunt all of my what-ifs / the smell of smoke would hang around this long

"Even if they resemble their loved ones, it doesn't change the fact that it's a figment of their imagination cultivated by the Akasha. They shouldn't be swayed." Tighnari said this to the Traveler on the very day they started exploring the dream situation.

Yet, as he rests in bed after a long day of investigating, there's you.

"Nari! You're back!" You greet, holding up a tea set as he enters the tree-like house.

He's quiet. Quiet as he sits on the chair he always sat on (the one practically reserved for his visits), quiet as you pour him tea (the one you brew whenever he comes over), and quiet as you sit across him with a small smile.

"How is it this time? Too bitter?"

". . . it's fine."

"Will you stay longer this time?"

". . . no, I'll leave soon." He places down the teacup, "Once my investigation with the traveler is done, this will all be over."

He stands up, the chair scrapes against the wooden floor (like it always used to do), you look up at him curiously (the same way you used to).

"Do you really want that?" You ask.

Tighnari knows that it's the dream trying to keep him asleep, trying to tie him down. You're not you, this is all fake, therefore it shouldn't matter. He doesn't need to entertain you any more than he should.

So he diverts the question because archons, once upon a dream, you were all he wanted. You are all he wants.

"I'm leaving now. Thank you for the tea."

"You stay a little bit longer each time you visit," You smile, "Maybe if I brew even better tea, you'll actually stay."

He freezes. Has he been staying longer?

He bites his lip, continuing to walk away from the tree house. It's a figment of his imagination, he shouldn't be swayed.

AYATO

// 'cause I knew everything when I was young / I knew I'd curse you for the longest time / chasin' shadows in the grocery line

He was expecting it, actually. The traveler had already explained that it's a phenomenon happening to those with losses, and he's aware -with losing his parents at a young age- that he was vulnerable to the dreams.

The minute he falls asleep, the moon high over Sumeru, you appear in his dreams.

"Ayato!"

"(Name)."

No matter how much he expected you, the surprise must still be on his face as you laugh.

"What's with that look? Do you miss me that much?"

Should he entertain the dream? Or ignore you? Then again, what does he have to lose by at least answering your questions. he misses you, how you talk, how you laugh-

"I did. I do." He replies, a calm smile on his face.

"We can't have that! If you miss me already after such a short time, how much more when I'm sent away to get married?"

Oh, so it's that part of the timeline.

Perhaps the sourness of his thoughts reflected on his expression, or maybe you guessed it on your own (you were always so good at understanding him), but you sighed and gave a sad smile.

"I. . . I have to be honest. I'm kind of scared," You chuckle, "It's two boat rides away from Narukami, and the rumors about my fiancé is. . . not so great."

Ayato knows that. Your fiancé killed you on your second year of marriage and attempted to frame it on a servant. Despite knowing all this, the only reply he could muster was a monotonous "I see. . ."

"But we promised each other, didn't we?" You stand straight, facing him with enthusiasm, "We'll make our clans great again. I'll give honor to my clan, and you'll redeem the Kamisato name! Who knows, maybe next time we meet. . . "

There's a glint in your eye and he understands what you're trying to say. Maybe next time, the two of us could be together. It was a childish dream— one that didn't consider divorces or politics or death. Maybe next time, the Kamisato clan would be powerful enough to whisk you away. Maybe next time, Ayato would be enough to marry you without shaming either of your clans. Maybe next time, it could be "us".

The dream turns hazy as Ayato feels himself being shaken awake, the high pitched voice of Paimon floating above him and the traveler next to him, shaking him, "Ayato! Ayato! You have to wake up, the dream isn't real!"

But it was real, wasn't it? It happened so long ago.

ZHONGLI

// I knew you'd miss me once the thrill expired / and you'd be standin' in my front porch light // and I knew you'd come back to me / you'd come back to me / and you'd come back to me / and you'd come back

The dream realm was turning dangerous, the host lost all control and everyone's loved ones were beginning to turn into horrible beasts.

Beasts were easy, though. For Zhongli, all he had to do was maintain his shield around the traveler and the other party members, ensuring everyone's safety. This was easy enough- for what being could actually penetrate the shield of an archon?

"Morax?"

It was you, standing amidst the chaos, as beings turned to monsters and the traveler fought back in defense. An echo of a nightmarish past— of the archon war and of dying gods. You looked no different from that day you stood next to him, ready to protect each other's backs.

He mutters your name so lightly, it fades into the noise around him.

"Morax, listen to me–" You try approaching, only to be stopped by his shield. For a second, he thinks of letting it down, but this wasn't you— this was a dream, a memory.

"Morax, you have to win, it has to be you," It's a desperate sound coming from your lips as your hands rest flat against his shield. He wants to hold you. Why is this nightmare coming back now? Why must he see you here? The logical part of him, the one trained through years of mental and physical warfare, understands that the dream wants him to take down his shield.

"You have to be the Geo Archon. You have to kill me, Morax–"

Ah, yes, he did kill you to become the Geo Archon that day. He remembers it as clear as gold in his memories.

"Get away from Zhongli!" He hears the traveler yell, a sword slashing between him and you, as you back away.

"Are you okay?" The traveler asks, posed in the defense.

"Yes, don't worry about me," He replies, composing himself as his polearm manifests in his hand, "Rather, allow me to deal with this myself."

Because how dare this dream taunt him. How dare this dream imitate you.

Hello liveblog viewers, it's been a while! We were both busy last weekend, but now we're back for more xenoblade. The roommate decided to postpone sidequests for now and return to the main plot, much to my delight!

The cutscene as you enter Valak Mountain spawned some rapid theorizing (and I have some thoughts about it too that I'll share later), most of which I expected (trying to figure out what the Face Mechon's relationship to memory is, picking up on that Meyneth is very old and has met Zanza before, etc)

I am most definitely testing my roommate's patience by continually calling the geyser a "geezer". And I will not stop.

Oh ok fun fact: my roommate is a geologist. She has some Complaints about the idea of taking a quick stroll through lava to grab some item orbs

Ah and we're back to the ramifications of my accidental spoilers. After the scene in Ose Tower with Alvis, roommate is now theorizing that Shulk's death will be not just a plain heroic sacrifice but somehow tied into the main plot with the Monado. She's still certain that it'll be a heroic sacrifice though :,)

Roommate: Do you remember that time we almost lost 4 hours of progress? Me: Do you want to go manually save right now? Roommate: ...you know what, yeah I'll go do that.

"Motherfucker, are you going to kill her again?" -my roommate, upon seeing Metal Face swoop in and hit Silver Face

Oh shit uh. Huh. We...did not put Shulk in the party to fight Mumkhar. Whoops. Rip Reyn, Riki, and Dunban

OH MY GOD SHE DID IT. SHE BEAT HIM WITH THE BOYS???

Egil: "Find us, Monado. Sword of the Bionis." Roommate: "Rude, I'm a person too." Me, with foreknowledge:

Roommate: "Oh, it's interesting that Egil claims he's an agent of Meyneth but Meyneth didn't want him to know she was there." Me, with foreknowledge:

Roommate: "The tyranny of the Bionis...? Weird, it'd be kind of hard for the Bionis to do tyranny while it's asleep." "I bet it's a really stupid reason. I bet we're going to find out what it is and I'm going to be like 'Egil, really? This is why you chose war and slavery? Grow up.'" "Either that or it'll be a really good reason and I'll scream. It'll be one of those two for sure, though."

Me, with foreknowledge:

eeeee we're blasting ahead to get Fiora! No sidequests no distractions the roommate misses Fiora and wants to get the babe back!!!

Oh she's so on the side of the Bionis. I'm listening to this wonderful rant about how terrible the Mechonis is for leeching ether out of the Bionis and oh, the poor Bionis just trying to support the life living on it with that terrible Mechonis siphoning away the ether!

Ah and now she's theorizing that the Mechonis used to produce its own ether but ran out during the ancient battle, so now she drains ether from the Bionis to sustain herself

The shriek she let out when she saw Dickson again. Now she's just flipping off the screen and singing "you liar" in different ways

Roommate: "If I had a little less self-respect I would have a crush on that man[Dickson]. Maybe I already do and I just don't want to admit it to myself." Me: WHEEZE

Roommate: "Dickson? You gonna be honest with us?" Me: "It's Dickson, what do you think?" Roommate: "He'll probably be honest with me when I'm dead."

Ah, we blazed through Sword Valley but our level advantage ran out against Mumkhar. It's also past midnight so we're going to do some sidequests tomorrow and head back in to save Fiora!

Currently OBSESSED with this webtoon,

This episode feels like one of those scenes that makes me want to re-write it for a whole assortment of stories coz it’s soo, ah, my heart!!! It’s the typical troupe of Royal and Common citizen who has powersss become the couple of the story. But their own backstory and personality adds the layers. It's the sort where even something simple like forehead kisses and hugs become moments so special, given their context.

I've been writing a few drafts and wips on the tag of PTSDs and various traumas recovery.

And having this scene where - the stronger archetype protector character, having a weak moment, a lethal injury, experiencing a vulnerability, a moment where the protected character is the one who becomes the protector/ healer. A role switch essentially. But plot pivotal moments n all.

For this is what helps the traumatised character see their protector as also human, also in need of another's care, also at times in need of protection themselves.

A power couple or well, the sort of relationships i aspire to write are, not only does the Knight save the princess. But the Princess also saves the Knight. Or realises that they gotta step up. Wake up. Allow healing to happen with their own will. So as to be able to be there for the other person in their time of need.

...

Plot note for my shield caster, Lilli. And her ever patient and waiting beau. Lilli is a battlefield healer, but after the trauma she suffered, the king commands her to rest. Her beau is still sent out for battles. He returns from one filthy and tired. She gets some tips, help scrub his back, as part of her own exposure therapy of intimacy. this Knight is exhausted and falls asleep in the tub. His vulnerability leaves her time to stare at him, touch him, without her own anxieties of her fear of his response or her response of the demons that haunt her. This moment is one of the many steps in the right direction.

Another scene. The Knight returns from another battle, or maybe Lilli is dispatched coz situations is dire. Then here's where the inspo slots in - ep 119 dragon valley- Lilli is working on shielding or maybe transporting him on horseback to safety. He's half dead and cold, telling Lillie his pain has all melted away, as Lillie clings to him in an embrace.

Very heart wrenching ,but it also takes development of the character and getting the reader to empathise with them, especially the Knight too, so his close shave with death stirs the readers heart too.

I was giving the show a bit of time to accumulate some episodes before starting it, but I have started AHS Delicate, and, three episodes in, I'm pleased to tell you that so far, this season is better than Double Feature (though how incredibly high that bar is is a bit of a YMMV thing). Spoilers ahead.

It's not on the same level of the "good" seasons (where you draw that line is again, YMMV; for me 1-5= good; 6 was experimental and I liked it for trying; Cult grew on me; hated Apocalypse; loved 1984; liked Red Tide, and hated Death Valley thus making Double Feature not good; and loved NYC for reasons that aren't entirely related to the quality of writing, if you catch my drift). Emma Roberts isn't exactly given a lot to work with, but she's fine. Kim Kardashian uh... I actually cannot tell she's acting, you know? Like, Siobhan as a character here literally just feels like Kim Kardashian (which I guess kind of happens when the character she's named for was combined with Anna Alcott's publicist from the book).

Yeah, okay, there it is. I mentioned the book. So far (again, I'm only three episodes in out of the currently available five), this season is working as a solid adaptation. Anna's publicist (whose name I can't be bothered to remember from the book) has been combined with her best friend and role model Siobhan, which honestly doesn't change too much bust does tighten the focus a bit. I'm curious how certain moments will play out, as these two had ultimately very different roles in the book (what with one of them having a very Spoiler heavy fate). The show also wisely chooses to introduce Anna's hallucinations earlier on (this might come up later, so I'm not saying plot hole... yet. The way this plays out in the book kind of requires her to be significantly further into her pregnancy than she is in the series; they'll either have this for Rule of Creepy, or they'll use this to signal that the Coven's involvement happens earlier in the show than in the book. We will see.)

There unfortunately isn't really a lot character-wise to judge so far, so we will instead look at this season in terms of style. We've got an unfortunately kind of washed out look going on that sadly reminds me of Red Tide, so that's a thing. This does however work really well for a later moment which feels suspiciously like it was taken from a scrapped live-action version of Coraline (not in the book, but it's a really cool stand-in for the scene it's replacing). I'm a Guillermo del Toro fan: I'm a sucker for creepy things in jars.

What I kind of want to flash on though is the soundtrack. It won't be for everyone (certainly it's a different beast entirely to the NYC soundtrack), but there's a bit of a fairy-tale thing going on, in a haunted Disney kind of way. I have a vague recollection of A Cure for Wellness hearing it and anything that reminds me of A Cure for Wellness is a good thing.

So to wrap up, I think so far my judgment that the book would work well as an American Horror Story season was the correct one. It gives me so far a bit of hope that other contemporary horror novels might see a similar kind of AHS flair. Maybe this is the direction the show needed to take all along.

freak show : one of the oddities in fräulein elsa's cabinet of curiosities a unique girl known for not only her psychic gifts but her peculiar ability to transform into a wolf

hotel : a vampire residing in hotel cortez , one of the countess' minions

roanoke : tba

cult : member of the cult , later s.c.u.m.

apocalypse : reprising coven role , key player in the apocalypse and subsequent events

1984 : counselor at camp redwood , serial killer enthusiast

red tide : talented sketch artist and incredible sorceress , becomes an profoundly gifted bartender after taking the black pills comes to cape cod every winter to work at the muse and then when summer comes she returns to her home town of new orleans ( possible coven connection ??? )

death valley : woman thought of as a town lunatic , experiences numerous abductions and utilized as one of the incubation experiments for human alien hybrids ( possible asylum connection ??? )

They could feel something trickling down their body. Something slimy, something wet, something painful. It felt warm to the touch, sticky and coagulated. Were they bleeding from somewhere? Smoke and ash permeated the air, feeling eerily reminiscent of-

“I’m-” They cut themself off, coughing and hacking more ichor from their shredded lungs. They could feel the ground beneath them tremble once more, their legs wobbling unsteadily. “Yume, I-I’m here-”

“There you are!” Hands shot out to catch them mid-fall, cradling their head gently. “Oh god, what happened to you?”

“A-ah, I’m not sure...” they chuckled hesitantly, eyelids drooping shut as they tried (and failed) to sit up. “But... where are the others?”

“No, Neph!” Yumeko grasped tightly onto them, locking them in place. “I can’t let you get yourself killed!”

Not again, at least.

“But I can’t leave Grim to die-!”

“I know, I know, I don’t want that either,” she sobbed, a hand resting on top of their head, “But I’m scared, Nephi. You’re injured- badly, and I-”

She took in a deep breath. “If I let you go, how do I know you’ll come back? How do I know the both of you will come back?”

“We will. I promise.”

“The last time you did-“ she stuttered, heaving painfully as she gripped onto their shoulders, “the last time you made a promise was when we went down into S.TY.X together. Don’t you remember?”

Ah, right. How could they forget?

Yumeko, on top of the chariot, reaching desperately forward as they dove headfirst into the Underworld. The others, their own horrified screams echoing into the caverns, unable to do anything. Grim, safely tucked into their arms as they fell, deeper and deeper still.

Had it not been for Yume’s quick thinking, they would’ve surely died then.

“Promise me you won’t do anything reckless?”

“I promise, cross my heart and hope to die.”

But today was different, they reasoned to themself, today wasn’t like then.

That isn’t counting what would happen if Grim managed to get out of the campus. What would happen to RSA? The village by the bay? The rest of Twisted Wonderland?

If they didn’t get to Grim in time, everyone would die. It wouldn’t be just them, or him, but everyone. Malleus, the Briar Prince and heir to the throne of the Valley of Thorns, Leona, the second prince of the Sunset Savanna, Kalim, eldest of the Al-Asim family, everyone in NRC would die.

Yumeko’s cries snapped them out of their spiral, hands instinctively wrapping around her in a hug.

The girl in their arms curled further into them, as if to hide herself away from the carnage around them. Her hands were scuffed and grazed, they noted, as they held her closer. Her hair was matted, faintly smelling of iron and smoke. Her glasses were missing as well, the tears pouring freely down her face.

And god, did that break their heart.

“Please, Neph, I can’t lose you too.”

“Shh, shh. Don’t cry, Yume. I won’t leave you, I promise. I promise.”

How they wish they could keep promises well.

One Piece Chapter 1060 - Initial Thoughts

Ho boy have we been through it these last 10 chapters

but Oda likes his numbers, so 1060 looks to not let up at all Just how much more does he intend to escalate things? Let's find out

Looks like the Sabo news has reached Luffy, who immediately refutes that Sabo would kill Cobra

Robin, like the fans, are in agreement

All the Alabasta crew are taking the news their own way, while the Post-Alabasta crew want to clarify that this is the same Sabo from Dressrosa

Caribou is also on the ship, trapped in another barrel

Zoro's putting his Vice Captain role into effect though; refuting Luffy's demands to go to Alabasta and Marejois and reminding Luffy that when Ace was in danger Luffy hade faith he'd be okay unless he called for help

Mind you, given that this led to Ace's death it was perhaps not the best example from Zoro

Naturally this leads to Zoro being called names, mainly themed around Wano's enemies

Robin overviews all the news they missed in Wano, including the Cross Guild - which Luffy also notes must be a mistake in regards to Yonko Buggy

Seems there's some other stuff Oda's tight-lipped about, since Luffy leaves Robin with the information to tell him if it becomes important

Luffy mulls more about Sabo's innocence and how it goes against his dreams and ideal, which also leads him saying his own dream...which again we don't get to hear

The reactions are mixed from hearing it, Brook, Chopper and Franky seem to entertain it, East Blue trio are concerned by it, Sanji thinks he's mad and then Robin and Jinbe seem shocked

This elusive dream seems to be believed impossible, and Luffy feels that only the King of the Pirates can help achieve it

Shanks seems to know it too, and laughed so hard he cried

Unbeknownst to Luffy Yamato would also know since Ace told him

The crew do soften to the idea though, noting how they better find the last Poneglyph then, which concerns Robin since they have no leads

Back to the Marines and they're tracking Sabo's call to Lulusia, one of the places where the people rebelled against their leaders

The Gorosei seem to know something we don't...again

Vindication off the bat: Sabo did not kill Cobra

Ah this is the kingdom with the vampire dude and his daughter who was almost kidnapped, both are being imprisoned for 'crimes' by the people

As Sabo reveals that someone sits on the Empty Throne though, something floats overhead as Im crosses off Lulusia on the map

Oh. Oh god.

Im just Independence Day'd the entire island, all its people, including children, and their dogs!

I guess this is what happened to God Valley, wiped off the map never to have existed...

No word from Sabo too, I'd think he survived but given that his call was tracked he won't make the same mistake twice

A few days later Luffy and co are caught up in some monstrous weather, maybe even caused by the nuking of Lulusia

We seem to be near a Winter Island too, and Chopper's got a cute lil straw hat

They approach an upward-warm eddy (so a whirpool but whirling to the sky) and someone's trapped in the middle

Sanji's lady radar says it's a woman

Zoro decides to cut the Eddy, just as Chopper gets caught up and swept by the strong winds

Luffy grabs Chopper but gets swept too, right to the mysterious lady

Bonney! It's kid version Bonney!

Well. I did say the Gorosei and Im would have something up their sleeve, but I didn't think it'd be that

My gut tells me that they have control of a Sky Island of some sort, given how the way it was done was very similar to how Enel wiped out Skypeians but at a greater scale, maybe it's something he observed from them. It's hard to tell if they've always had this too; Enies Lobby and God Valley could be proof of prior existence but then why bother with Buster Calls? Ohara could've been nuked just like this but it wasn't, so if it's new then it may make more sense in that regard.

One must wonder how the rest of the world will respond to this too, people aren't just gonna forget that Lulusia was a place who had a seat on the Reverie. What of marines born in Lulusia? Or simply the good aligned marines? I doubt they'd just allow this to go unchecked even if it meant leaving the Navy, Akainu may approve given how it was to get Sabo (don't think he's dead, he is a Logia after all) but others may not see it that way.

Caribou being locked up implies he will come into play when he escapes, but it is discerning that he makes it on the ship where Yamato and Carrot do not - even if it is as a hostage. I guess given how multiple days pass this time that Carrot is 99.999% not stowed away somewhere on the ship, which honestly sucks because her 'conclusion' was still a weak ass cop-out Oda hasn't tried to course correct like he's done with Yamato. I repeat, Pedro's will was to see the Dawn and help the Straw Hats reach it, that's what he died for. Do I still hold onto that 0.001%? Yes, but it is looking bleaker than ever.

Also Oda is keeping us in the dark still on Luffy's dream, the theories are gonna run wild with this one.

But given that we hit a new island it means that we're reaching the destination of our next arc, and it's gonna be Bonney-oriented likely. I'm not sad about that really, Bonney is an interesting character we know so little about, and she was at Marejois the last time we saw her, perhaps this is how Luffy and co find out what really happened at the Reverie? Perhaps the next island as well is the Sorbet Kingdom - Kuma's place - but we'll have to wait next week to find out.

Well that feels like an appropriate episode title considering my friend's note of "Human dolls." I've seen human dolls a few times in other shows, I think I can tough this one out.
