“Gale is the REAL villain of the hunger games-” No. Nope. 100% wrong.

Gale is 18 in the first book. Just 18. Is he a good person? No, and growing up under a fascist regime certainly didn’t help any. The real villains in the hunger games are the people in charge. Gale has no power. The reason Gale is so nihilistic and cruel is because of his upbringing.

Him and Katniss do not belong together, and building the bombs wasn’t right. But he wasn’t the one who killed Prim. Coin did. She had all the power, she made the decision to drop the bombs on the hordes of capital children and then on the responders, her people.

I’ve seen a lot of people villainizing him far past what he is actually guilty of. Gale is 100% a result of his environment. He is young and he is angry. Not just at the capitol, at the richer members of the district. And he has reason. Capitol children don’t have to worry about being reaped, and to an extent, the richer children of the districts have far less chance of being reaped because their names are in there significantly less.

And it’s not just him he has to be worried about. He has three younger siblings. Even though he’s far too young to go into the games, they can. Both Gale and Katniss are forced into the role of provider extremely young, forced to feed their families the only way they know how: by risking their lives to both travel outside the district to hunt and by signing up for tesserae.

The real villains of the hunger games are the adults who made the decisions to put these kids in these situations. Snow, who forced the games to continue and killed thousands of children, who forced Finnick into prostitution (which we have no idea when he started, but we can assume young as he won his games at only 14). Coin who took advantage of Katniss’s trauma, Gale’s rage, and chose to drop the bombs. Gaul, who took advantage of Snows desperation.

SPOILERS FOR AVATAR: FRONTIERS OF PANDORA - TAP CON-1 AND THE SARENTU MOOT MASSACRE

I wanted to post my full thoughts about the game after i finished my first playthrough, but I can not just keep what I just learned in my head, so be forwarned; Spoilers ahead.

Let me just say that the entire TAP CON-1 quest made me feel... disgusting.

That word perfectly encapsulates how I felt the second I heard how they made the children shower in disinfectant, as if they were diseased. I felt gross, and messy and just absolutely disgusted.

And then the massacre happened and I was just... I don't know how to describe it. Like, I knew Alma was involved, but the way that it all just poured out. That she was there during the whole slaughter, how she admits to playing ignorant, how she let the children believe the lie that their families abandoned them and it just made me think of everything else she's done since knowing her.

She did nothing as the RDA barged into the moot and slaughtered the entire clan.

She did nothing as the children were literally shoved into cages like animals, shackled like prisoners and then washed and striped of everything that made them Sarentu.

She proceeds to teach them what she sought out to teach, knowing damn well the consequences of wanting her school program to work.

She did nothing as Mercer and Harding trained/abused the children.

She did nothing when Mercer killed Aha'ri (which should have been the breaking point at this rate)

She left the children in cyrosleep for 16 years, not once thinking to check if they were actually alive.

She proceeds to keep her secret, and even expresses confirmation in an audio log that "they made the right choice" when bringing up how the Sarentu children are adjusting to the resistance. Basically implying that she's glad her teachings worked.

She tells Ri'nela that the Kame'tire can't be trusted, alienating the clan that she indirectly ruined with her ambitions.

And when she's finally figured out and Alma's Avatar is killed, she laments about never experiencing Pandora freely anymore, as if she expects Ri'nela and MC to lament with her.

After the whole funeral, I began rummaging it around in my head, and in the end, I concluded that the death of Alma's avatar and her actions are in direct parallel to Jake's.

Jake wanted to be part of the Na'vi because he got to actually connect with it's culture and worked to become a part of it. And when he screwed up, he worked to earn the Omaticaya's forgiveness, eventually becoming a true Na'vi.

Alma pretty much already saw herself as part of the Na'vi, despite barely doing anything. When Nor happily shows them the Sarentu knife and then laments how it was kept as a trophy and Alma said it was back with "us", like she was implying herself as part of the Sarentu. And she did very little if nothing at all to amend her mistakes, instead opting to play the victim here.

I also thought about Grace here, and her own sins with her own school. But the difference there is that she actually worked to make a friendship with the Omaticaya before taking in students. And her school was out in the forest, made from wood and full of life and learning. Alma's school was indoors inside metal walls, cut off from the outside world and they were taught one-sided knowledge that boosted the RDA's image and tarnished the Na'vi's.

And then Grace's School failed, she to seemed to loose herself to her avatar, preferring her avatar body to her human,, but she never once tried to cover up her mistakes. And she tried to make things work.

Alma did nothing but cover up the truth until it couldn't be hidden anymore.

In the end, the fact that just one quest could make me feel like this and have me think about all this really shows that the story works.

So it's gameplay is a little too simular to Far Cry. Who cares? So long as the story has me feeling complex emotions like this, I will play it.

Even if the glitches get a little annoying, I still enjoy every bit of this game.

And I will post my full thoughts on the game once I've finished it.

It’s 2024 and people are still blaming Gale for Prims death…

What about Beetee, who actually made the bomb? I don’t hear any one blaming him. You shouldn’t, but he’s more responsible than Gale is. What about Plutarch, who was the one who actually dropped the second bomb that killed Prim, assuming everything Snow said was correct. And of course, what about Coin, who gave the order to send medics, drop the bombs, and made sure Prim (A 13 year old child) was sent to an active war zone. The decision of the attack also happened when Gale, Katniss, and the rest of Star Squad 451 had no communication with the rebels, right after Gale was captured by Peacekeepers. He was in no way, shape or form, able to order a bombing at the Capital, nor would he have any idea Coin was about to bomb a bunch of kids and their own medics.

The only two people who should be held accountable for the deaths of the Capital Plaza are Coin and Plutarch. I love Gale, he’s not perfect and has his flaws, but he is not a child murder and he did not kill Prim. That’s all.

I keep getting ducking deadnamed even though I listed my actual fucking preferred name in the application several times. It feels a little like they didn’t even read my application materials. They don’t have the decency to fucking CHECK that they’re using the right name when rejecting someone. I know they’re probably combing through thousands of applications and sending rejections to nearly all of them but I paid to send my application, I worked hard on my essays, agonized over my writing sample, lost sleep and time over this application, and your admissions person doesn’t have the time to double check the names on the rejection emails?? What the fuck do you do when someone gets accepted?? Do you ruin their joy with your same laziness?? Do you overlook their identity to save a few seconds? Is decency the price of convenience? I’m already bummed out enough, why add salt to the wound? Why rub it in? Why remind me that I am just another statistic, meaningless?

just saw someone say the entire madrigal family was more evil than SCAR. like please let’s use our brains here, scar purposely wanted to murder his brother so he could take the throne. He tried killing his nephew MULTIPLE TIMES and had not an ounce of remorse. Most of the madrigals were dismissive at best and condescending (alma, isabela) at worst. Also it’s important to mention that alma in particular doesn’t know how badly she’s damaging her family because NOBODY TOLD HER HOW THEY FELT. like even when she’s being condescending to mirabel, mirabel herself fakes a smile she never says anything. It’s only after the house collapses and they have a heart to heart that alma realizes how badly her trauma has misconstrued her views. She always wanted to PROTECT her family but was stuck in a bad mindset. so like let’s not compare the victim of generational trauma to a literal murderer because one thing about alma is she would never do that to her kids.

So I’ve been wanting to talk about this one unpopular opinion I have regarding Encanto, and it has to do with the infamous picture scene. Why? Well because I’m going to be honest, I think a A LOT of people misinterpret this scene, so I want to give my personal two cents on the matter. Keep in mind that these are MY opinions, so if you disagree, that’s completely okay! Without further adue, let’s discuss it.

Near the opening of the film, we have Antonio’s ceremony, the character who is getting his gift 10 years after the last one didn’t work, that one being Mirabel’s. The family is relived when they figure out that it does work, and they all go into his magical rainforest room. To celebrate, the family decides to take a picture together, but of course, Mirabel isn’t there. Most people in the fandom always bring this scene up to support their argument on the mistreatment of Mirabel, and how her family doesn’t treat her the best. Many have said that they didn’t include her because she didn’t have a gift, as well as people also saying that they blatantly ignored her all night and should have noticed she wasn’t in the photo, so yeah it’s mainly people who claim that the family is awful to her. I’ll get to that, but let’s go slow.

So for a more in depth explanation, after Antonio returns on his jaguar, Abuela and the family celebrate, with her saying that they need a picture. Mirabel watches, her facial expression changing from happy to hurt. While Abuela tells EVERYONE to come, we see Mirabel stay STILL as the rest of the family get ready to take the picture. It’s happens within seconds, but one of the things I have to mention that apparently some people didn’t get was that it was MIRABEL who didn’t move. Abuela herself said “EVERYONE come”, and then it cuts back to Mirabel, who we can clearly see decided not to move or even try to get in the photo, not the other way around. I only say this because it kinda felt like a lot of people always acted as if Mirabel DID try to get into the picture, but the family purposely pushed her out of the way and went “Not you Mira, you suck, we’re not letting you in because you don’t have a gift lol”, cause that’s not what happened. I mean look, Félix and Agustín are there as well! The family never excluded her from the photo or said she couldn’t join, she CHOSE not to join, so some of y’all need to stop acting like they pushed her out of the frame or something. Anyway, of course the question begs why didn’t Mirabel try to join in? Well, as an audience member it isn’t spelled out of course, but one can come to the conclusion that she probably felt insecure, that she either didn’t want to show her face and was ashamed and embarrassed, or she felt she didn’t deserve to. THAT should have been people’s thoughts, not “they didn’t include her in the photo!”- but whatever. The correct answer to why she didn’t join though was given by director Jared Bush in one of his Q and A’s however.

So there you go folks. Her family NEVER excluded her from the picture, she purposely didn’t join in because she felt she didn’t measure up to them. Which real quick, I have to say when I read this it made me emotional, poor Mirabel. ❤️

Anyway, regardless of if Mirabel wanting to join in or not, a lot of people of course wondered why nobody noticed Mirabel wasn’t there, and asked her to come. I honestly have a few things to say about this subject, but let me first say real quick that wether the family didn’t notice she wasn’t there, didn’t bother to ask her to join, OR was rushed and just had to take the picture as quickly as possible, whichever reason you think does NOT make the family horrible people. I know I sound like a broken record when it comes to this but I just have to say that, because once again people use this scene to paint the Madrigals as a bunch of monsters when they’re not. They clearly didn’t have a bias or anything against Mirabel being in the picture, or heck, they never had a bias against her in general, or more importantly, NONE of them had mean spirited ill intentions in this scene, and I’m kinda tired of people acting like it. That’s honestly the thing about how some people see the Madrigals in a nutshell. The whole point of the movie is that these characters are GOOD people, they just lost sight of what was important, (like you could say they were just so happy about Antonio getting a gift, that they unintentionally overlooked the one who didn’t have one) and while I’m not excuse anything, I WILL say that they’re not cold hearted monsters like some people are acting like. For me personally, I think the family just got swept up in everything going on, maybe they were rushed since the picture happens in seconds, or maybe they were all just caught up in the moment. I don’t think ANY of them we’re trying to be mean here, and that’s what some people need to understand. Usually when you’re in a situation like this, ESPECIALLY in a huge family, it’s not impossible to overlook someone. What I’m saying is, it’s clear they didn’t overlook Mirabel on purpose. That’s all I want people to understand, cause like I said, I’ve seen tons of people say “they didn’t include her in the picture because she doesn’t have a gift”- when that’s SO off. Now yes, someone could have asked “Hey, where’s Mirabel?”- but to me like I said, usually you don’t really check your surroundings in this situation. Most people are focused on themselves when they’re taking a picture, and to me personally, I see this scene as everyone just being caught up in the moment, eager to take a photo that they didn’t notice, that’s just MY opinion tho. However, it wouldn’t be a bad question to ask Jared if the family noticed she wasn’t in the picture, if you’re someone who wants confirmation!

The last important thing I want to say is why I think this scene was included. A lot of people interpret this scene as mean spirited, basically showing how Mirabel is the outcast of the family and how they don’t really include her because of her lack of gift. I see it a different way. For me personally, they of course not only included a scene like this to transition into “Waiting On A Miracle”, but I believe they created this scene to visually show how Mirabel feels like she doesn’t fit in with her family, like she doesn’t belong. When it comes to storytelling, ESPECIALLY musical storytelling, you want to create visuals that associate with the theme of your movie, your character. Since Mirabel feels like she doesn’t belong in this family because they all have gifts and her view on them is that they’re perfect and amazing, the image of her family on one side in the spotlight, and her on the other is a perfect way to symbolize to the audience how she feels out of place.

I’d also like to add that for me personally, it would be weird if Mirabel WERE to get in the picture, only to stand out and face her family to start singing. That would look weird, so while her avoiding family pictures is sad and depressing af, it’s a better idea. However, again I kinda feel like people are missing the point of this scene, or even as a whole on what Mirabel feels. It’s not that she feels out of place because her family “treats her like shit” as some have said, she feels out of place because they all shine, they all have gifts, and she has none of that. It doesn’t really have anything to do with the treatment between her and her family at all, but even if you disagree with everything I’ve said, I will say that I just don’t like it when people misinterpret things from this film, or look at it through black and white lenses. People think this scene existed so the filmmakers could go “yeah her family shuns her out because of her lack of gift”, and that’s just not true. The family may not have noticed her or something, but that doesn’t really make them horrible people, that makes them flawed. Y’all need to understand that if you’re in a big family where literally everything is surrounded by your gift and you’re working constantly to uphold to that all your life, the member who doesn’t have any of that is going to get overlooked, even if it’s unintentional. Jared has confirmed that all these characters are going through their own things, they’re busy, and sometimes it’s going to be hard to keep track of certain things. Of course, we don’t have a straight answer on this subject, so I suggest asking Jared next Q and A on if the family didn’t notice her or whatnot, but the fact of the matter is that this scene obviously wasn’t intended to be mean spirited. You’re of course supposed to feel bad for Mirabel here yes, and again, y’all can disagree with anything I have said, that’s fine! I’m just kinda sick of people interpreting this scene as the family purposely pushing her away because they hate her and all that bs. Wether you agree with the actions of the family or not, all I ask is to please stop painting them as one note insensitive jerks.

Guys I hate myself sm why tf can’t I just go to sleep at a normal time??? I literally didn’t go to school today because yesterday I was so exhausted I felt terrible and I can‘t get sick or be too tired cus I have a very fun but full weekend coming up and also I really had to study and I literally didn’t do anything I was on my phone the whole entire day and I didn‘t go to theater class because I needed to study but also probably because that would mean actually going somewhere and talking to people which means I spent the entire day inside on my phone today which means I feel fucking shitty. And at like 6 in the evening I realized I hadn’t taken my adhd medication which is probably also why I couldn’t bring myself to study and ugh sometimes I hate that I need a fucking pill to be a normal productive human being and I know that‘s not a good way tot think about it but still. And as new season of heartbreak high came out but I only realized too late in the evening so ofc I can‘t watch it cus I need to go to sleep or if not that, study. And of course that means I‘m just gonna watch tiktoks instead of doing either of those things but still not let myself do smth I would actually enjoy. And now it’s one thirty am and I have to get up at six thirty and I have a chemistry exam tomorrow that I didn‘t study enough for even though I had the whole entire day and I‘m gonna be soo tired but noo, going to sleep instead of doomscrolling and feeling guilty?? Stoic and standoffish when you first meet him. It takes him a little while to soften, and there’s a big part of him that wants to cave, to break down those walls and open himself back up, but he fights it every time. Despite that, he craves softness and warmth, so when you come along to give it to him in droves, it’s a losing battle for him to keep you at arm’s length

Once those walls are down it’s like night and day. He’s handsy, can’t keep them to himself. He’s always gotta be touching you in some capacity if only to remind himself that you’re real and he needs to cherish every moment he gets with you because he knows better than most how quickly things can change.

Will always make time for you. Doesn’t matter the time of day or night, doesn’t matter what he’s doing, you call and he’s on his way.

Uses all sorts of pet names on you in English and Spanish. Mi cielo (my heaven/sky), mi alma (my soul), chula (cutie), reinita (little queen), mi amor (my love), babe/baby, angel, sweetheart, sunshine, and bunny to name a few. If it’s sweet and makes you fluster, he’s all for it.

Speaks Spanglish a lot, especially when he’s mad. Will switch between both so fast you can hardly keep up, and he’ll stop mid-rant and give you a sheepish smile, shrugging his shoulders. “My mouth has a mind of its own, bonita. Lo siento.”

Calls you often when the two of you are apart. Can’t end his night without hearing your voice. No matter where he is, you can guarantee your phone will ring right before you fall asleep every single night. He always says he’s just calling you to say goodnight, but then the pair of you end up talking for hours. Not that you mind, the lack of sleep is worth it.
