Nobody Expects The Japanese Jooster: Some Fun Translation Notes
Hey, guys. Are y'all aware that in the Japanese translation of "Bertie Changes His Mind", the line where Jeeves says "I'm fond of Mr. Wooster" is translated as 「私はウースター様が好きでございます」 (or, "watakushi wa Wooster-sama ga suki de gozaimasu")? Because I'm sure not normal about this.
Tl;dr: this line now reads like a love confession. (If an amusingly keigo-ridden love confession, because even in his internal dialogue Jeeves is physically incapable of not sounding aggressively polite.) More under the cut.
Now, please note that I am not fluent in Japanese, so take all my words with a grain of salt. But I have, at the very least studied it for several years, am currently living in Japan, and have listened to a great number of Japanese love songs. And this is how I would like to share that if you "ga suki" a person, this can and very often does mean you are in love with them.
Technically, "suki" just means "like". If you like apples, you'd say "ringo ga suki". If say, tennis is your favorite sport, you'd say "tenisu wa watashi no ichiban suki na supootsu" - with "ichiban suki" literally meaning "number one like". "Daisuki", or "big like", is the one that is often used for love - but boy is just plain "suki" used a hell of a lot.
Take this translation of "Ano Yume o Nazotte" (or "Tracing That Dream"), for example. Here, the translator has written it literally as "I like you", but contextually the song makes it pretty probable that it's a confession of romantic love. Or have a look at the Project Diva translation of "Suki Kirai" ("Like-Dislike" or "Love-Hate"), which makes "suki"'s usage in romantic love quite clear. There's even a whole conversation about the subject of love confession and translation in The Great Ace Attorney - this links to a fan-translated Let's Play so the original Japanese dialogue is visible, but the conversation happens similarly in the official localized version, though it manifests a bit differently. Regardless, both versions discuss "suki" as used to confess feelings of love.
What I'm saying is, wow, holy shit, Tamaki Morimura made a rather strong choice when using "suki". Because no matter the intent, that potential implication is absolutely going to be present in a reader's mind. And if you're wondering why I know this in the first place, it's because this line is used (in very slightly altered form, as "Wooster-sama" is exchanged for "the young master") in the manga, Please, Jeeves, which in large part uses Morimura's translation for its text, and... well. Let's just say our good pal Bun Katsuta seems to rather leaned into that with the expression.
Tumblr media
Yeah.
And this goes in tandem with other aspects of the manga, like an added line that, to my knowledge, is not present anywhere in the original text (certainly not in the story that chapter adapts, "Jeeves in the Springtime"), in which Jeeves says that Bertie's shortcomings do not prevent him from being "beloved as a person". Not to mention the other choices the manga makes, such as having Jeeves wink at Bertie incessantly, or occasionally having hearts float around Bertie when he talks about Jeeves, or the panel at the end of "Without the Option where I swear to God it looks like Jeeves is trying to reach for Bertie's hand.
So, between the official translation and the manga adaptation, I'm not saying we have a Spanish Destiel situation on our hands... but I'm certainly implying it.
(My final note is that this is one of the favorite book series of Empress Emeritus Michiko. Which, with this added context, is very funny to me. I wish she had an open email address so I could ask her if she thinks they're in love.)

Hi, I randomly found your posts because I was searching for Nick & TZP content. I'm pretty new to this so please excuse me if I'm talking about stuff you've known for ages lol.
I recently listened to the Variety interview with Nick and was kind of disappointed. I get that he doesn't want to get typecast as a gay bottom and so he tries to appear straighter... but I found it kind of sad and unnecessary to go out of his way in saying things like "language I'm not fluent in". I don't know, kind of gave me the ick. Maybe I'm completely wrong here but my gaydar is usually pretty spot on and there's no way in hell that guy is 100 % straight.
It felt like he went overboard. Other young actors aren't afraid like he is. There are even guys that are actually mostly straight but they still speak about falling in love with a guy (Callum Turner said he actually fell in love with Austin Butler while filming). And I'm pretty sure they're not in a secret relationship. It's just something that happens on set. Actors often practice method acting, act on impulse and fall in love with each other. Then they move on as soon filming ends. As far as I know, this is pretty common in the entertainment industry, doesn't matter what sexual orientation.
Timothée Chalamet handled the call me by your name interviews pretty well too. As far as I'm aware, he never claimed to be fully straight and said it's about falling in love with a person. Another example would be Paul Mescal who hasn't claimed to be straight either. I think it's very cool and helpful for society in general to stop putting people in boxes if they're not comfortable with it.
I saw you talking about TZP and while I don't know anything about his private life, he's pretty outspoken on issues in the queer community and he has never said he is straight. When talking about dating, he only ever said "the person", which is pretty nice.
So this is why I was kind of disappointed in Nick. I guess the only option that wouldn't paint him in a bad light would be if he hadn't admitted it to himself that he's not straight. But that would be kind of a stretch, I don't know. What do you think?
Hi, anon!
Nick has done two Variety podcast interviews, one last autumn (i made a reaction post to that one) and he did one a week ago (i haven't had time to listen to that one yet). Both were with the same interviewer, Marc Malkin. I assume you're referring to the first one, because he said "....a language i'm not fluent in" in that one.
Nick is queer and closeted. So he needs to pretend to be straight and see these things from a straight perspective, while still being respectful to the queer community who he's, as a publicly straight man, appropriating the culture of and representing. Notice it was the interviewer who called him straight. Nick has never said he's straight, but he is implying he's straight the way he's talking, and he's talked about former gfs and he's got a public gf now.
I also think it's important to question why so many young male actors nowadays are taking on queer roles, while not stating they're straight, but are implying they are due to being in very public straight relationships, or being connected to celebrity women. They often also queercode and talk about being attracted to men. What is the motivation of a straight man taking on a queer acting role? I think all these men are closeted and queer, but they don't want to be typecast, they are heartthrobs and have a large female audience and they're all very ambitious. They want the best acting roles and they want that oscar. So they're closeted, but for some of them it's almost a glass closet. Would anyone be surprised if Jacob Elor*i admitted to having a boyfriend in high school, or someone claiming to have spotted Paul in a gay club grinding on a man?
Tzp is a good example of someone in a glass closet. He's married to a man and has been for years. He never talks about his sexuality or does fake relationships. He uses gender neutral language as you point out. He's happy to be connected to females during promo seasons, but he always denies it after awhile. He banks on heteronormativity to keep him closeted. He makes little effort to hide his husband as well.
I think Nick is doing what we see most queer and closeted celebrities are currently doing. Letting heteronormativity do most of the work, but aiding with public relationship with women. Everything else about them (queer stereotypes, behaviour, expressing attraction to men, queercoding) is pointing to them being queer. It's more freedom and not as harsh closeting than the generation before them had to experience. They're still closeted though.
So if a man is saying he fell in love with a man or his first celebrity crush was a man, and the next second he's papped snogging D*a L*pa agains a light pole in a city center, you should see it for what it is and draw your conclusions.

I'm broke, I'm completely broke. I just finished reading "Sincerely, your super-best-friend Kyle." and I don't recommend anyone to read this. *Contains spoilers*
I'm not fluent in English, and consequently I'm not good at showing my feelings, so yeah... And I also know that I don't have followers and nobody gonna read this, I just needed to talk about it with someone, or just write about it on Tumblr.
About what I just said, "I don't recommend anyone to read this", it's a lie. A total lie.
The way the author describe Stan's feelings it's... passionate, even the most terrible ones. I could literally feel what Stan was feeling while reading and..... Oh fck. When the 40 chapter started, I thought that Stan was just happy that he finally had something with Kyle and I was so fucking wrong. I started suspecting of something when he thinks of like "saying goodbye to his sweaters"... I thought about the possibility of s*icid3, but I didn't had sure. I just had sure when he picked the whiskey bottle after ingerit the LSD. It was sad. I cried. I felt bad, but not bad for Stan's death, maybe a little, but I felt bad because of his thoughts. I can't explain the pang I felt in my chest after he thought about his medications and when he got home and nobody was there, nobody was there for him.
I remember of me also crying at the first time he said "I love you" to his mom in the fanfiction, and I couldn't read when he said "I love you" to his mom for the last time.
I'm gonna read the others fanfictions that the author wrote now, I'm a little nervous about "Project ERIC", but here I am.
Heyyy, so... I posted this shit here bcause it would be ridiculous if I started a conversation with a friend about a South Park fanfic, knowing that no one knows that I'm really into South Park and Style. So... Yeah. I like the anonymous that internet offers at all :D
Ignore my very bad english and not grammatically right ;p

(Maybe) I love you - Jaybart
pairing: Jason Todd × Bart Allen
requested: no
warning: sexual mentions
author notes: I'm not fluent in English yet, so sorry for the spelling mistakes, I also wrote this at one in the morning instead of going to bed so I'm also sorry if something doesn't make sense.
-------------------------------------------------------
"Oh God." Bart moaned, leaning his head back, he tried to get more air but it was difficult due to his breathing that was completely panting, meanwhile Jason took advantage of the moment when their lips were parted to leave kisses and hickeys all over your neck.
They had been making out in Bart's room for quite some time, the speedster was sure the house would be empty for the next five hours so they might as well enjoy the moment.
This was "technically" the fifth date they'd had, but it was the first time Bart had taken Jason to his room, they'd had sex before in Jason's car and apartment, a mall bathroom, and made out a few times behind a chinese restaurant.
But this time it was different, it felt different.
At first, Bart was more than a little hesitant to invite the other to his bed - knowing pretty well that this would be the first guy he'd ever bring into his house. Bart doesn't care about the whole "who would be my first" thing, but that doesn't mean he was less nervous about taking Jason home.
He thought the first guy he took home would end up being insignificant, like his first kiss and boyfriend, but more he thought about it the more he discovered that he genuinely cared, not about the guy he would take to have sex in his bed, Bart cared about Jason.
It was a little hard to admit to himself that what he felt for him was love, especially since he'd never experienced that kind of feeling for anyone else, but after long late night reflections and several people practically throwing it in his face that everything what he felt was love, he plucked up the courage to ask Jason out on that date.
That's how they ended up here.
In Bart's bed. Messy and breathless, inches from each other's lips.
"You're overthinking it," Jason whispered in his ear.
He wasn't wrong. His mind at that moment was in a whirlwind of thoughts too fast for him to keep up with, but in all that confusion going on in his head there was one thought in particular that caught his attention, Jason wasn't just the first guy he took to his bed , was also his first love.
He hated how sweet and cliché it sounded, even if it was just in his head.
“I was thinking about a few things, and I just realized that maybe I love you.
Bart wished he had a camera, or could have his phone in his hand instead of somewhere on the floor, so he could photograph Jason's reaction. It was something quick, it didn't even seem to have happened, but he'd seen it. His eyes had widened the tiniest bit, and for a brief moment Jason Todd was speechless.
“Maybe you love me?” Jason asked, raising an eyebrow. “only loves half of me and the other half hates completely?"
“No you idiot. I've never really loved anyone, not romantically at least, so I'm not sure what I feel is that kind of love. I know it's something special, and different, when I was with other guys it felt like I was pretending to like them, everything was so fake and superficial, but when I'm with you everything feels real and brilliant, I just don't know how to explain."
Jason opened and closed his mouth several times, it felt like his brain had short circuited and for a moment his entire nervous system had shut down and restarted. Bart wanted to laugh, as it was often he who was left in that state after some comment from Jason, not the other way around.
"You better stop talking that corny shit or I'll end up believing it." He said sarcastically.
Bart rolled his eyes and kissed his lips with a lot of passion and desire.
“You better believe it because it's true."
Jason smiled, it wasn't one of his characteristic sneers, this was genuine and made the speedster heart race faster - if that's possible.
“We've been dating less than an hour and you're already all silly and goofy with me.
“I'm going to pretend that the reason you don't believe in me is related to some trauma from your past, and instead of that you said I'm amazing and the best boyfriend in the world, because I am."
The two were silent for a moment but then they started laughing, they laughed so hard that now they were out of breath, but this time for a different reason.
“Well you're right, about the two things, you really are the best boyfriend in the world,” Jason murmured as he pressed a hard kiss to Bart's lips. “And maybe I love you for that."

Playin' With Fire
Tumblr media
Summary: Dani has moved in with Will and Benny Miller. One night they throw a party and she finally gets to meet the final Special Ops teammate, Frankie. There is an obvious connection between the two, but what happens when life throws a roadblock in the way of them being together?
A/N: So here it is. My first ever Frankie fic, my first ever Pedro Character fic, my first ever fic that has all the parts completed. I would like to say a BIG thank you to @221bshrlocked for the mood board because hers is TEN times better than any of mine were. Each part will have their own warnings. Translations will be at the end of every chapter, let me know if any of them are wrong. Also let me know if I've missed any warnings. Y'all forgive me if my writing is crap.
Warning: Explicit language, mentions of someone getting handsy, um dirty dancing?, mentions of sex.
Word Count: 4,205

It was a warm summer day, Benny’s birthday to be exact. Will had decided to throw a party at their house for him. Will had mentioned that their childhood friend, who they called ‘Tequila’ just moved in with them. Frankie had shown up early to help Will assemble the new grill he had gotten. He never expected for his entire life to be flipped upside down.
He knocked on Will’s front door three times before it swung open and there she stood. Dirty blonde hair that hung just below her breasts, eyes so blue it put the sky to shame. He was sure he looked like a damned fool, mouth agape, probably catching flies. Then she smiled, and Frankie’s heart beat faster than ever thought possible.
“Hey, you must be Catfish. Will told me he was expecting you.” She greets him and her voice sounds like a fucking angel. There was no way that she wasn’t messing around with Benny. She looked just like his type.
“I’m Dani, Will and Ben’s roommate, but everyone calls me Tequila.” Frankie groans internally, he was so screwed. She opens the door a little more and moves out of the way. “Will’s in the backyard.” She points through the house.
Frankie hurried past her and mumbled a “Thank you”. Frankie’s eyes were trained to the floor as he briskly walked toward the kitchen and out into the backyard.
“Fish!” Will bellowed with a huge smile on his face. “I guess Tequila let you in.” The two men embraced in a bro-hug. Frankie nodded, moving over to where Will had the grill pieces laid out.
“She did. You never mentioned your new roommate was a woman and hot.” Frankie responded, looking over the directions. “You know man, you pay like fifty extra bucks and they put this shit together for you.”
Tumblr media
It took Frankie and Will three fucking hours to put the grill together. By the end of the last hour, Frankie was cursing Will, telling him he’d never help him do something like this again; Although, they both knew that was a lie. The two men walked into the kitchen, where Dani was prepping the steaks for dinner. “Finally done, boys? I threw a couple of buds in the fridge for y’all.” She chuckled as the back door opened.
Frankie knew he shouldn’t, but walking up to the fridge, he couldn’t help but steal a gaze at her back side. The shorts she was wearing left almost nothing to the imagination. Her tanned legs seemed like they went on for days. Her feet clad in converses, which made Frankie laugh, because who wears those any more.
Dani heard the laughter and turned around, seeing Frankie looking at her feet. "My shoes funny to you, Catfish?" She asked, with a playful smile on her face.
Frankie's head shot up. " No, no. I love Chuck Taylors as much as the next person. It just surprises me that people still wear them." He explained himself, hoping she didn't catch him staring at her ass, too. Frankie opened the fridge and grabbed two beers, before asking her if she wanted one. She shook her head, stating she doesn't drink beer. Frankie wondered what that meant, and handed the other beer to Will who watched the scene unfold in front of him with a smirk on his face.
There was about an hour to kill before everyone showed up to celebrate Benny's birthday. "The steaks should marinate for at least another half hour." Dani explained to Will, "And make sure you don't burn 'em this time, Ironhead." She teased him, and he threw a hand over his heart, feigning that it was broken. The two went about the kitchen prepping side dishes for the night.
Frankie was outside, trying to figure out why the grill wouldn't light and he was sure Will fucked something up. He couldn't help but wonder what Tequila and his friend were talking about.
Dani turned to her best friend, "So, what's Catfish's story?" She asked, twiddling her fingers. Will looked at her with a raised brow.
"Frankie? Why?" Will questioned her teasingly. Blush covered her cheeks and she averted her eyes to the floor.
"I dunno. He seems sweet." She replied and Will smirked, giving her a knowing look. "Will, stop it. All I said was he seems sweet." She playfully smacked the other blonde.
"Well, Ironhead. I figured out what you fucked up." Frankie's voice boomed as he opened the back door. He noticed that the two were talking and apologized for interrupting.
"It's fine, Frankie." Dani smiled, "What did this dumbass do now?" Frankie realized that was the first time she said his real name, and it was the greatest thing he has ever heard.
Frankie turned to Ironhead. "Maldito idiota. You forgot to connect the gas line. The whole place could have gone up." Will's eyes almost popped out of his head.
Tequila turned to Ironhead. "What the fuck, Will?!" She screeched. Will threw his hands up in defense.
"I'm sorry. I got distracted." He tried to save his ass. "I swear I connected it."
Frankie and Tequila rolled their eyes. "Well, I hope your girl of the week knows she almost killed us." Tequila groaned and walked outside, knowing exactly what was keeping Will distracted. Frankie just shook his head and followed her.
"Hey," he started as he walked up to her at the cooler. She gave him an acknowledging nod as she pulled a bottle of tequila out. "Oh. Is it time for the hard stuff, already? Una chica después de mi propio corazón." The spanish rolled off of Frankie's tongue and Dani could have fallen over.
She would never admit it to anyone, but she had a thing for languages. Or maybe she just had a thing for Frankie and his Spanish. She wasn't sure which. "Yeah, well after finding out your best friend almost killed you for a few nudes from his fling of the week, tequila seems appropriate." She forced a laugh. Frankie definitely caught on that she described Will as her best friend and that he was having flings.
Frankie nodded in agreement. "So, is this why they call you Tequila?" He tried to change the subject, pointing to the bottle of Patrón. She shook her head 'no'. Before she could tell him, Will stuck his head out the door, yelling that Santiago was here.
"Santi!" Tequila squealed, rushing to the door, and she missed the look on Frankie's face. It was a mix between hurt and confusion. How did she know Santiago when Frankie had no idea she existed? Frankie groaned and walked toward the house to greet his friend.
Dani had already made it inside and was wrapped in an embrace with Pope. “Fuck,” Pope groaned with a smile as Dani jumped into him. “Hey, Tequila.” He hugged her tightly.
“Look here, jerkface,” She said as they separated, “Next time you hook up with one of my friends and leave me to deal with her crying, I’m kicking your ass.” She poked him in the chest to get her point across.
Santiago just hung his head and mumbled a “yes ma’am” before Frankie caught his eye. “Lo que hasta hermano” He greeted one of his oldest friends. He looked at Dani and mouthed “help me” to Frankie, earning another poke from the blonde girl.
“Estás solo, hermano. Ella da miedo.” Frankie smiled, pointing to Tequila. She huffed and crossed her arms.
“Oh, fuck you guys. I’m fluent in Spanish. Deja de hablar mierda de mi.” The words rolled off her tongue with ease and Frankie almost lost his shit right there. Lucky for him, Will broke up the tension.
“Benny just texted me, he will be here in twenty. Tom is bringing Molly and will be here in about fifteen.” Dani excused herself to go get ready, claiming she wasn’t presentable for a party. If it had been up to Frankie, she wouldn’t have changed at all. He found himself excited when she came back about fifteen minutes later in the same shorts, shoes, and a cropped Guns-n-Roses t-shirt.
The party was in full swing. The seven of them were gathered around the fire pit. The group was too many drinks in and knew they would be crashing here. Thankfully Benny and Will had the room.
“So, Dani. Why do they call you Tequila?” Molly had asked and Will and Benny started laughing. Dani just shook her head. Benny answered before she could.
“Because Dani can knock you on your ass with one good shot, just like Tequila. Trust me, I know.” He explained, speaking from experience. Molly looked at her with wide eyes and she just shrugged.
“I bartended my way through college. Sometimes an asshole would get too handsy. It paid off to have two protective guys who taught me how to throw a good punch. Plus, I really like tequila.” She winked at Frankie, referencing their conversation earlier in the day, taking a sip of her tequila sunrise. She made a face, realizing it had watered down. “I’m going for another, anyone else need one?” She offered and everyone raised an empty bottle.
She got up from her chair and turned toward the house. Frankie got up too, “I’ll help you,” he offered, ignoring the whistle Santi let out. He was clearly feeling good. Frankie flipped him a quick bird and continued into the house.
Inside, Dani was already grabbing bottles out of the fridge, mumbling about how they have already almost finished off their stock. “Oh, here” Frankie started, leaning on the counter. Dani closed the door, turning her attention to the man beside her. “Let me help.” He said, taking the bottles out of her hands, seeing her struggle to hold them all. “Can I ask you something?” Frankie gets the words out before he changes his mind. She hmms in response.
“How have we never met? I mean you obviously know Santi.” He takes his hat off to run a hand through his hair. Dani smiled at the sight of his hair all disheveled.
“I’ve been asking myself that all night. You do seem to be the better of the bunch.” She flirted, hoping he would return the gesture and he did.
“You are definitely not what I was expecting when Will said they had a roommate.” He smiled, leaning a little closer to her. Dani noticed and moved closer herself. Before they could cross that line, they were startled apart by a very inebriated Benny.
“Tequila!” Their drunk friend slurred, “Wha’re you ‘n fish doin’? Cat, you hittin’ on my girl?” He tried to be serious, but Benny stumbled over his own feet into Frankie.
“Woah, Benny. Careful.” Frankie caught him and set him up right. Dani laughed, he always was a lightweight.
“We were just about to bring the drinks out.” She says, grabbing the bottles off the counter, leaving a couple for Frankie to carry.
Back outside, Dani and Molly danced to whatever music Will had playing. “Yeah!” by Usher came on and Molly squealed that she loves this song. “Dance with me, Tequila!” She pulls her closer and Dani lets her, the alcohol clearly gone to her head. The two girls are all but grinding on each other. Tom quickly gets up, knocking his chair backwards. He takes Dani’s place dancing with Molly, grumbling something she would never repeat in public.
Frankie wanted nothing more than to join her now that she was dancing alone, but Santi beat him to the punch. “Baila conmigo, cariño.” He whispered in her ear and she giggled. Frankie wished it had been him to get that noise out of her. Dani shook her head and pushed Santi away.
“Solo en tus sueños, playboy.” She responded and it was Frankie’s turn to laugh. Dani walked away from Santi over to where Frankie sat. “Dance with me, Frankie?” She asked sweetly. How could Frankie say no?
He followed her just as a Def Leppard flowed through the speakers. She began moving her body to the beat of “Pour some sugar on me”. Frankie did his best to keep up with her, but he kept losing concentration, especially when her ass connected with his crotch one to many times. His hands instinctively went to her hips and pulled her closer. “Joder, princesa. Tienes que parar antes de que pierda el control.” He groaned into her neck where only she could hear him.
She turned to face him, throwing her arms around his neck to pull herself closer. “Tal vez eso es exactamente lo que quiero.” She purred in his ear.
Tumblr media
The sun beamed through Dani’s window way too early the next morning. She groaned and rolled away from the penetrating light. As she turned, her hand hit a warm body and it elicited a groan. “Too early.”
Dani’s eyes shot open, trying to see who was beside her. Looking around, she realized that she was not in her room, but instead in Will’s. “Will?” She questioned, berating herself for going this far with her best friend. The other person threw the blanket off their head and Dani let out a sigh of relief. Seeing Frankie took the weight off of her shoulders.
“Hermosa, did you just call me Will?” Frankie asked, sleep thick in his voice. Dani was so embarrassed.
“Sorry, fish. I opened my eyes and saw that we were in Will’s room. What the fuck happened last night?” Dani questioned the man beside her as she sat up to assess the room. She looked around for any indication that something transpired between them last night.
“Trust me, Tequila. You’d know if we slept together.” Frankie sighed, as he swiped a hand over his face. Cocky much, Dani thought; However, he was right, she didn’t feel like she had sex. “I need coffee.” He griped, throwing his legs off the bed and standing up. Dani caught him out of the corner of her eye. He had on sweats and no shirt. She turned her head, shamelessly checking him out, before he pulled his shirt on. “Take a picture, Teq.” He laughed and she threw a pillow at him.
Dani forced herself out of the bed too, happy to see her drunk self had put on decent pajamas. The two padded into the kitchen as quietly as possible. They had passed Santi and Ben passed out on the couches.
“Where are Molly and Tom?” Dani whispered to Frankie and he just shrugged. Frankie rummaged through the kitchen searching for the coffee. “Teq, where are the filters?” He yawned, holding up the coffee can.
“Shit, we might be out.” Frankie whined at her answer. “Come on. There’s a coffee shop within walking distance.” She continued, heading towards her room. She opened the door and found out where Molly and Tom were. “Holy shit!” she gasped and immediately turned around. Frankie heard her outburst and rushed over to her, seeing the same sight as her, Molly perched on Tom’s lap, moving in an obvious way.
“Jesus,” Frankie said, covering his eyes.
“I’m just gonna borrow some clothes from Benny.” Dani said walking away and closing her door. Once in Benny’s room, they found Will sound asleep. Dani quickly picked up some sweats and a tee from Benny’s drawer. “I’ll be right out.” She told Frankie as she entered Benny’s bathroom.
When she emerged, she had dressed and her blonde locks were haphazardly thrown into a bun. Frankie loved this look on her. She was just as beautiful as she was last night, and this looked more natural on her. “You’re staring, Catfish.” She teased him, “Let’s go get coffee before anyone else wakes up.”
The walk to the coffee shop was a pleasant one. It was about 7am and the North Carolina humidity hadn’t set in yet. Frankie and Dani chit-chatted the whole way. She had learned that he had met the guys while in the service. He joined right after high school, just like them. He was their pilot. His favorite color is black, and that is exactly how he likes his coffee. He drives the same chevy he got on his 18th birthday, and has no intentions of getting rid of it because “she still purrs like a kitten”.
He learned a lot about Dani, too. Her favorite color is purple. She likes her coffee with just cream. She met Benny first, since they were the same age. She is an only child, so Ben and Will are basically her older brothers. She just finished her residency at the county hospital and is getting ready to take her boards. She absolutely loves 80’s hair bands and country music, but has a soft spot for R&B and rap.
They were nice enough to get coffee for everyone, even though Tom and Molly seemed to have enough energy this morning. “I have to buy a new mattress now.” Dani cringed at the thought of what Molly and Tom were doing.
They got back to the house to see that everyone was now awake, and fully clothed. Dani gave Tom and Molly a dirty look and they both apologized, confusing everyone else in the room. Frankie started handing out the coffees, getting mumbled “thank yous” from the group.
“Are those my clothes?” Benny asked, gesturing to Dani. She nodded and proceeded to tell everyone why she had to wear Benny’s clothes.
“Holy shit. You need a new mattress now.” Will snorted, his face drawing up in disgust.
Dani laughed, “That’s exactly what I told Frankie!” Molly’s face was beet red and Tom just hung his head. “Awh, come on, guys. We’re just kidding. Although, I do need a new mattress.” She tried to lighten the mood.
Frankie quietly sipped his coffee, trying to figure out if he should ask Dani out on a date. They’ve only known each other for a day and Frankie can’t imagine his life without her, even just as a friend.
What seemed like hours passed and the group slowly trickled down until it was just Benny, Dani, and Frankie. Benny was the next to leave, loudly saying he was going to take a nap and for Frankie to behave himself. Frankie just shook his head at his friend.
“I guess I should be heading out soon.” Frankie sighed, not wanting to leave. Dani nodded, trying not to look disappointed.
Frankie scooted closer to where she was sitting on the couch, lifting her outstretched legs over his. The two sat in silence, purely enjoying each other’s company. “Fish,” Dani started, “You wanna get dinner sometime?” She asked, biting her lip nervously. Frankie looked at her, shocked, that she asked first.
“I would be damn stupid to say no.”
Tumblr media
Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months. Dani and Frankie had become best friends. Even through all of the flirting, they never crossed that line. Dani was working at the hospital, and Frankie was back on rotation at the airport. He was gone most days, but he was due to come back for a short time.
Frankie was ready to be back home. He loved flying, but now he had something worth being on the ground for. He had called Dani before his last flight left, telling her he would be back by 9am the next day.
Like clockwork, Frankie was knocking on the door at the Miller Party House™ by 9:30am. Dani begrudgingly dragged herself out of bed and threw on her robe. She scurried toward the door, pulling it open to reveal Frankie with a bouquet of sunflowers. Frankie laughed, “No need to get dressed up querida, it's just me.” He teased her.
Dani pulled him into the house and hugged him tight. “Fish! I can’t believe you’re here.” She said sleepily. Frankie smiled at her tiredness. She just looked so damn cute in her fuzzy robe and bed head. “Give me thirty and I’ll be ready.” She yawned as he released her from his hold.
He watched her pad her way down the hall to her room, his smile never leaving his face. He made his way to the kitchen, knowing where everything was, he started a pot of coffee. Even though they were going for breakfast, he knew she would want a cup to-go.
True to her word, thirty minutes later, Dani emerged from her room, dressed in distressed jean and a black T-shirt. Her hair was thrown into a messy bun, her signature go to. She walked into the kitchen where Frankie just finished making her cup of coffee.
“Just the way you like it.” He promised with a wink, as he handed her the cup. She happily accepted the hot beverage. Taking her first sip, she moaned at the heavenly taste.
“You are the best, Cat.” She murmured, walking past him, only stopping to place a sweet kiss to his cheek. She all but inhaled the drink, before she slid her feet into her trusty converses. The two made their way outside and climbed into Frankie’s Chevy.
The drive to their usual diner, Luanne’s, was a short one, but it was filled with laughter. Frankie was at his happiest when Dani was with him. They pulled into the parking lot, Frankie backing his truck into ‘his’ spot. He hopped out of the cab, rushing to the passenger side, so that he could open Dani’s door.
“Who says chivalry is dead?” She joked as the door opened and Frankie held out a hand for her to take. She gladly accepted it and slipped out of the truck. The two walked hand in hand to the door. Frankie pulled it open to see Luanne standing behind the counter.
“Well look what the cat dragged in! I ain’t seen you two in a hot minute.” She greeted them, not bothering to get menus because they always ordered the same thing. “Your usual booth is open, go on and take a seat. I’ll get the coffee.”
Frankie and Dani mumbled a “thank you” in unison as they moved toward the back of the restaurant. Just as they were getting comfortable, Luanne walked up with a thermal carafe and two coffee cups. “What have y’all been up to?” she asked, sitting down the coffee and some cutlery.
“I just got back into town.” Frankie explained, “Had to drag this one out of bed.” He laughed as Dani stuck her tongue out at him.
“Well I’ve been taking extra shifts at the hospital. I think I’ve earned the right to sleep in.” She shot back at him with a smile.
“Y’all are the cutest. What are we getting today? The usuals?” She didn’t need to ask, she already knew. They nodded. “ Alrighty then. Coming up darlin’s.” Luanne walked away, leaving them to each other.
“So, extra shifts at the hospital?” Frankie asked her as he poured coffee, sliding her a cup.
“Yeah. Residency is kicking my ass. I’m trying not to fall behind.” she told him. “I take my boards in a week and I’ve logged almost no time in neuro.” She sighed. She didn’t want to go into neurosurgery, but she still needed the hours.
“You are going to be the best damn trauma surgeon Memorial has ever seen.” Frankie promised her, “And if they can’t see that, then fuck 'em.” He smiled at her. Luanne brought them their breakfast and they halted their conversation.
When they were done eating, Frankie insisted on paying, telling her she could get it next time. They left the diner and went back to Dani’s place. “You have me for the day, hermosa. What do you wanna do?” Frankie asked her. Dani tapped her pointer finger to her chin, pretending to think.
“I believe we have a show to catch up on, Morales. Seeing as I can’t watch it without you.” She teased him. “You grab the snacks, I’ll get the drinks, and get Hulu up.” He nodded in agreement and they separated.
When Frankie entered her room, she had blankets and pillows set up in a mock fort on the bed. How she did it so fast, he will never know, but he isn’t complaining. The two settled down and turned on ‘Sons of Anarchy’.
The show was gruesome and Dani hated watching it without Frankie. “Hey, fish?” She started, “Doesn’t Jax look a lot like Will? I mean, if he had long hair?” She asked, and Frankie studied the screen.
“Nah, I don’t see it.” They laughed and continued watching. She wasn’t sure how many episodes they watched, but she looked over and Frankie had fallen asleep. She closed the laptop, moving off the extra pillows, and covered Frankie with a blanket. His signature hat was falling off his head and she set it on her nightstand.
Dani sat there on her bed, looking at her best friend sound asleep. He looked peaceful. His face smooth of the worry lines he normally sported. His curly hair in disarray. She couldn’t help but smile. In that moment, she knew there was nowhere else she’d rather be. She curled herself up in the bed next to him, where she drifted into a relaxing slumber.

Hi! I'd like to do a match up for obey me, preferably the brothers. I'm 162 cm which is about 5'2 I think? I'm a demi girl and I really like acting, performing and crafting. I'm asian and I'm trying to pick up a lot of languages, just because I can. I'm loud, sarcastic and humourous but I can read the room and keep quiet when needed. I'm more of a leader, but I'll stay by someone's side if asked to. I also like reading mostly fiction and romance. Thank you!
I think a good match for you would be...
Satan!
Sarcasm is a language he speaks fluently as well and your love for languages is just one of the many things that attracted him to you in the first place. He enjoys learning for he sake of pursuing knowledge and your drive for your passion is something he appreciates deeply. While he prefers his reading time to be a quiet affair, sometimes maybe sitting together and cuddled up as you read to each other, with your affinity for acting he will surely make an exception. As long as he can request a play to perform together every once in a while, he will gladly be your partner or your critic if you are studying for your new role, pushing you to do your best while making sure not to discourage you if something goes wrong. But your hobbies aside, your personality is what he fell for in the first place. Yes, he is a rather dominant person and he often sees himself as the ideal leader considering his knowledge of quite literally anything. Due to his explosive nature most demons tend to just let him have his way, letting him order them around and he is quite happy with that. So the moment you stand up to him, everyone is already running to gather the buckets and mops, prepared to wipe up whatever remains of you once his anger is bound to take over. Imagine their surprise as he actually stops to ponder for a moment, taking in your argument, before eventually agreeing with what had been said. In his life, most people apart from some of his brothers tended to always agree with him in fear of what might happen should they not. Someone not afraid to get in a word if they need to or take over completely while not putting him down really attracted him to you. Coupled with the fluent sarcasm and the jokes that never fail to catch him off guard, he really couldn't be happier. I hope you like your matchup!

english album anon again
and omg no i'm not calling them dumb at all!! that came across entirely wrong if that's what you thought i meant! and i do look up the english lyrics! though i'm not learning korean no, i personally just don't tend to focus much on lyrics whilst i'm listening to the music (except for the first time when i'm reading what they mean and when i look the lyrics up again if i want to remember the exact words used), but that goes for literally any language the music is in, even my native language. so yes: i focus mostly on musicality, but no i don't completely disregard the lyrics they write
also: intelligence doesn't have anything to do with being able to learn a language, i mean, i go to university but there's just no way that i'm ever going to get a full grasp of german just to give an example (and yes, i did try for several years :) ) so even if any of them don't manage to learn some language completely, that doesn't say anything about how smart they are
i just meant, maybe not all of them will get that full grasp of english and there's no reason that they should i think and because of that, i just don't think i would fully enjoy an album entirely in english if maybe they won't fully remember their meaning after a while (just like i don't fully remember the meaning of their korean lyrics after a while)
i don't know if that's still considered to be offensive and i'm sorry if it still comes across as such, i just don't really know how else to say it since english isn't my native language
english album anon again (last time i promise)
i really hope your post about judgmental people wasn't about what i said :( i truly wasn't judging them, i would never! i think what i said just came across entirely wrong
i just hope you can believe me when i say that i truly am a fan of bts and i actually have been for several years now
Hi anon, I wasn't talking about you. It was a general comment.
And I understand what you are saying anon. But I would like to ask you a question, do you think the same about their songs in Japanese for example? As far as I know they are not fluent in that language either but they have songs and albums in that language.

hello, question about the horrorfell concept; in your version of underfell jasper and pyre have a huge rift because of the roles they had to play while in horrortale papy is trying to help slate be as much his old self/embrace his new surface life as much as possible. i'm not sure what the smooshing of those two problems looks like yet aside from brick being almost entirely reliant on king, let alone how they'd even begin to approach the problem, can we hear some more thoughts on that?
Yeah, it’s complicated, that’s for sure!
The disaster of the Human and the ensuing famine actually did a lot of work to bridge the emotional gap that had been there between the brothers– the fight with Undyne was the closest either of them had come to losing each other in a really long time and it was a bit of a wake-up call, a reminder that they’re family and they care about each other, so the disagreements and fights they have in the meantime aren’t as important compared to that.
They also grew a little closer in the recovery period, when King needed his brother to help him learn to walk again, and Brick needed him right back because his jaw was set wrong and his voice was gone and he can’t remember things reliably anymore.
The only problem now is that King is in a pretty good place: he’s got the walking figured out and he’s…maybe not dealing with what happened with Undyne but working on it, and he’s got a good job that he feels fulfilled at and it’s… He’s good.
Brick is…less good. His jaw’s reset, but he still can’t talk out loud and his memory still sucks and he doesn’t quite trust himself alone, out in Peaceful Society without his brother there to be able to hold him back if there’s an…Incident. It’s doubly upsetting because he feels like hey, he’s the older brother, if anybody’s taking care of anybody, it should be him looking out for King, and things being the other way around makes him feel weird about asking for or accepting too much help from him…
His biggest struggle is agency: he needs to find things he can do by himself, without any assistance, even from somebody who means well and genuinely wants to help him. His little blanket-making business helps, it’s something, but it’s not everything. That’s part of why he still refuses to use a text-to-speech device and why it’s so important to him that he learns to sign, fluently instead of having to clumsily skip over words he doesn’t know or can’t remember: it’s independence, and the affirmation to himself that he can learn something new, he can handle his own stuff, he’s not broken beyond repair, he can do this.
It’d be a huge thing for his ego to feel like he’s actually fluent in sign instead of just barely scraping by– being confident that he said the right thing in a complete way makes even going to a fast food joint to get a burger and not being understood go from a sullen and frustrated, “of course you don’t, i suck at this,” to a sharp and confident, “of course you don’t, you suck at this, put mandy on the counter, she’s the only one of you idiots who bothered to learn any sign for your best customer– and you still won’t promote her to manager, c’mon, i ain’t got all day…”
So…it’d be really helpful for Brick to have somebody he could practice his sign with, somebody who isn’t his brother with all those weird family-hang-ups attached, to help him grow that confidence in his ability to be independent without incident…
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

help me breathe again - chapter 01
Tumblr media
hmba masterlist
-third person pov-

-’’ is thoughts-
y/n stepped out of the terminal with only her carry-on.
'so this is japan. wow.'
the airport in miyagi was bustling with people. y/n glanced around at those around her. she definitely stood out. she could feel the anxiety start to bubble up in her gut.
she started walking around the place. she was supposed to meet someone that had a sign with her name on it near the front of the airport.
there stood an older man, probably in his late 30s or early 40s. he had short, dark brown hair and was holding a sign that simply read "y/n l/n" on it.
approaching the man, he noticed her.
"y/n?" the man called out as she drew nearer. y/n only nodded. the unknown man stuck his hand out,
"i'm kosuke sawamura, daichi's father and your mom's ex-husband. it's nice to meet you," a gentle smile followed that matched his kind eyes. y/n smiled back and shook his outstretched hand. kosuke proceeded to take her bag from her and lead her to the luggage claim area.
"how was your flight?" startled by the attempt at small talk, y/n whispered back,
"oh it was alright i guess, i was asleep through most of it. thank you for asking." kosuke proceeded to look down at the girl, slightly concerned by her sheepish nature.
'maybe she's just nervous. let's not jump to conclusions yet kosuke.'
kosuke spoke again, "how's your japanese by the way? your mom wouldn't tell me much about you."
'go figure she wouldn't. why would she talk about her greatest mistake?'
"oh it's pretty good i guess. i've been studying non-stop ever since the news broke, but it's still not perfect. i can read kanji though."
"that's good to know. i'll absolutely help you translate if you need, as i'm fluent in english myself. and i want you to be as comfortable as possible. so please, don't hesitate to ask for anything, okay?" kosuke replied with another gentle smile. y/n looked around in his eyes for a hint of deception, to which she found none. she thanked him and quickly turned around to look for her luggage once again.
'why would he want to help me? i'm just the daughter of his ex-wife that he's just met. this doesn't make any sense. he's probably lying because we're in public.'
soon enough her luggage came rolling around, and kosuke again grabbed it for her. with a tilt of his head, he signaled for them to get going. she followed closely behind him, anxiety high enough and definitely not wanting to get lost in the sea of people.
the drive to the sawamura residence wasn't a long one, maybe about 30 minutes, but y/n still managed to fall asleep. while driving, kosuke peered over at the young girl in the passenger seat. his eyes softened at the fact that she looked relaxed for the first time since he saw her. turning his attention back towards the road, he thought about daichi. he wouldn't be back from volleyball practice for another 20 minutes or so after they would arrive home.
"oh i hope he remembers that she was coming today."

the resounding smack of a volleyball hitting the floor could be heard from even outside the gym.
"YEAH ASAHI! THAT'S OUR ACE!" tanaka shouted afterwards. they were in the middle of a practice match with seijoh, and had just taken the last set. the sweaty young men retreated to their sides of the court, getting water, towels, etc.
the only thing that could be heard throughout the gym was panting, and soft words of encouragement from the coaches. that was at least until a phone rang.
ukai, sighing and rubbing his eyes, "alright who's phone is it this time?" everyone looked towards an approaching daichi, clutching his phone in his hand.
"i'm sorry coach, my phone is on do not disturb unless it's a call from my dad. i need to take this," daichi offered an explanation.
ukai merely looked at him and nodded, he was a good kid and an even better captain after all. it had to be something important.
with a slight bow towards his elder, he answered the phone and started jogging to the other end of the gym. daichi could feel his heart rate start to increase as his dad never calls him.'
-regular is daichi-
-italics are kosuke-
"hello? dad? what's wrong?"
"hey dai, it's okay. there's nothing wrong. i know you're at practice but i just picked y/n up from the airport about ten minutes ago. i just wanted to remind you in case you brought anybody over afterwards. you still can but it might be a little awkward haha"
daichi breathed out. he had forgotten. he was so caught up in the practice match against seijoh that it completely slipped his mind.
"oh god, thanks for the reminder dad. we just had an intense practice match with seijoh and i totally forgot. i can try and convince suga and asahi to come over a different day then. they were going to come by and study with me."
"no no it's okay son, they can still come over. maybe just have them wait in your room or something while i introduce you and y/n. i don't want to make you look bad for cancelling plans last minute," kosuke retorted quickly.
daichi hesitated, "as long as you're sure dad. i don't want to make her more uncomfortable than she probably is."
"i know daichi. it'll be okay, just a bit awkward at first. i'll see you in about 40 minutes right?"
"yeah, about that. maybe less. i'll text you when i'm on my way home okay, dad?"
"sounds good bud. i'll see you then. bye, love you."
"bye dad, love you too," as he ended the call, daichi looked up to realize most people were staring at him.
sugawara was the first to speak up, "hey bro what was that all about? you looked kind of uncomfortable. are you good?"
"oh yeah. i'm fine. but i have something i need to tell you and asahi for our study session at my house tonight. can you go grab him quick?" suga nodded and went to do as he was asked.
"hey daichi, what's wrong? do we need to reschedule?" asahi said as soon as he was within earshot. daichi only shook his head.
"no we don't have to but it might be a little awkward there. so, uh, i kinda forgot to tell you that i have a half-sister,' asahi and suga's mouths dropped, 'and i also forgot to mention that she's here in japan now and is going to be living with my dad and i for the next like two and a half years or so. and that she's at my house. like right now," with every word that came tumbling out of daichi's mouth, the other two boys grew even more surprised.
"so daichi, you mean to tell us that we can still study at your house, but you'll be meeting your half-sister from half a world over at the same time??" suga started, exasperated.
"yeah that basically sums it up. let's get back to practice and we can mull over this information in a bit, alright guys?" the other two just nodded their heads in silence and followed daichi back to where the rest of the team was.
'what the ever loving fuck?'

Book 1 Nostalgia
WARNING: This post will have spoilers to the SGE series
The first book in any series will always hold a special place in anyone's heart I think. There is just something beautiful, whether the writing was phenomenal or lacking, about the introduction to a new world and the characters that you're going to know. After reading further into the series, sometimes you just wanna go back to the start, where everything was a lot simpler.
SGE kinda falls into this feeling for me.
I don't think I'm ever going to get over the interactions between the characters (and we haven't even explored most of them) because, personally, Soman is incredibly good with how he does character intercations but the story and plot have a lot to improve on.
And now comparing TSY with TCY it's very glaring.
Soman really has a problem with his plot so much so than with his storyline. It's very repetitive and the storyline suffers from it.
After Book 1, every plot seemed to be the same case; Sophie is an important piece to the main villain, Agatha tries to fix everything, Tedros is getting more crap than needed, annoyingly unhealthy romantic relationships are explored, and the other characters do things.
The last of these examples are really the only things that varies. Everything else is almost always the same in one way or another.
The first book doesn't really follow that pattern. It's a introductory book and I wish Soman did the same vibe as it in QfG.
Though Book 1 wasn't perfect. My biggest main problem with it was how Soman handled Agatha's development from thinking herself a freak and realizing that she was just a beautiful as anyone else (and Tagatha, of course. They had a very unconvincing start) compared to the detailed and precise handling of Sophie's decent and eventual acceptance her wickedness.
I said it once and I'll say it again: I miss vengeful, spited Sophie. Who made the School for Good suffer because Tedros didn't keep his promise and her very impressive Talent to summon Evil creatures at will to do her bidding.
This was the Sophie that I expected more from in the later books but might never get again. With the way that the OTK cover portrays her as the Lion, whether that would be a thing or not, it's clear that Soman wants the readers to look at Sophie in a better light and not as the anti-hero that she is but I could be wrong.
In Book 1, Sophie was incredibly selfish to the point that she wouldn't do anything for others even those that she should care about (i.e. Tedros in the Trial) and in the end, she had to pay for the selfishness by seeing just how Evil she could become and be seen as the witch that she was. Her development from Pink Princess to Witch of Woods Beyond was believable; her ambitiousness combined with her selfishness was what made her gain everything through manipulation and wickedness but it couldn't be hidden for long. Once everyone, including herself, saw what lied underneath her exterior, she lost everything and because of the things that she chooses to do, she naturally hurt and attacked the people that wronged her just as Evil does.
It was caused by a failed romantic pursuit, yes, but unlike the other later romantic relations that she had, the one in Book 1 focused more on the outcome for her character development than in the relationship itself. Honestly her relationships with Rafal, and Rhian, and maybe now Japeth, idk, make absolutely no sense with the importance that the story puts on it because these relationships didn't help further Sophie's character development. It stunted her really.
Now compare this to Agatha.
I think everyone and their cats agree that we all miss witchy Agatha in book 1 and I hope we write more of her in our fanfics like that since Soman won't do it. The thing is, with Agatha, unlike Sophie, whether she is written as a straight-up hero or as a sort of anti-villain with her portrayal as the Snake in the OTK cover, it won't be that far fetched. I don't know if Soman intended this or not but it's pretty frickin impressive with how he managed to make Agatha a pretty versatile character.
Book 1 did not to good with how she went from Graveyard Girl to Fairy Tale Princess. At most, we saw her heroic characteristics but Soman didn't put much effort with making it believable and we were left to our own imaginations with how she could have believably developed and grown into herself. It should have taken more than one chapter to make us believe that Agatha suddenly grew confident with herself and her own brand of beauty and how her relationship with Tedros should have started.
But because of the fact that she's now comfortable as both being a little different and unique in her own way but is still guided by the values of Good and holds it dear to her soul as well as her loyalty to those she loves, she can do great with the best of both worlds.
Agatha hasn't stopped growing since book 1 and I think that reason for that is because Soman knows that he has to square up whenever he writes her. Whether she's developing on her own or with others, she's always learning new values and finding ways to express them in the way that she's comfortable with.
Soman does express that he loves writing in Sophie's POV the most, but it can be a double edged sword if not careful. And I think Soman hasn't been careful.
Now back to the glory of Book 1.
Book one had the most simplest plot and most fluent storyline than in any other book. Even TLEA.
I think I could recall a lot more events in Book 1 than in the more recent ones because there was a lot more events and chapters that were actually necessary to the plot.
So, to go by statistics;
TLEA has the most recorded chapters in the series as of current before the release of OTK with 35 chapters and 3 parts to divide it.
It's followed by Book 1 with 30 chapters.
Then QfG is next with 28 chapters divided into 2 parts.
And aCoT follows with 27 chapters and 2 parts as well.
Last is AWWP with 24 chapters divided into 2 parts as well.
If going by this then OTK should either have a chapter or two more or less than TLEA but not less so than Book 1 because it's going to now be the official last book of the the series.
But that is besides the point. My main problem with the books' storytelling after Book 1 is how disoriented it has become.
Let me make an example with QfG and aCoT. These books are more or less very similar with each other in the number of chapters with only one being the difference while the start of the the "Part 2" portion was a bit different with QfG's starting at chapter 21 while aCoT's started with chapter 17.
But the reception and the fluency of these two books could not be more different from each other.
To say that QfG completely destroyed the fandom is an understatement. I can't tell of aCoT managed to regain the series's former glory for long enough to not let OTK flop but let's be hopeful.
Anyways, the fluency of the storytelling with TCY was wack and QfG and aCoT completely show that.
WARNING: Spoilers about QfG and aCoT will be discussed in this section.
I could not remember almost 70% of QfG because of how much I hated the plot and looking back at the chapters, I honestly could not believe that the asshat Rhian was only introduced on Chapter 21. Everything after Chaddick's POV chapter seemed to be a blur and Rhian's b*tch ass seemed to have corrupted the whole experience.
8 chapters. He was only in QfG for 8 chapters and yet it feels almost like he's been in it for more than half. Frick. He is traumatizing.
Basically, the middle part of the book, namely chapters 7 to 20, was all about the main cast trying to frickin understand wtf was happening. Agatha and Sophie were trying to figure out the Lion and the Snake thing while Tedros was back in Camelot doing (or failing or being sabotaged with) politics and also trying to understand why tf was Excalibur having a tantrum.
Then Rhian entered and I don't know why or how Nottingham and Robin Hood got involved but he did.
And then more figuring out stuff and sabotaging Tedros and then Rhian and Excalibur and then cliffhanger.
It was all very abrupt and confusing. More confusion was added all because there were more questions asked than actual answers and a sense of depression was felt in the end because nothing was really achieved.
Imma compare this with Book 1 later but first Book 5 comparison.
Now aCoT. It was just the storyline that we needed to get back to the hype that the series had. Was it a satisfying read? Yes but was it able to heal the pain that QfG inflicted? No.
The fandom did not come back the same again.
But anyways, aCoT, personally, had a lot more scenes and events that I remembered than in any other book besides book 1 but that there was the problem with this book.
Too many things happened with this book. So much so that the fluency of the story was sacrificed to tell it.
Look at it this way, several shifts in the book happened.
This all happened in Part 1 only;
Rhian became King and his regime was sort of explained.
Agatha was introduced to the First Years and got her Army.
Sophie was in some sort of GOT-esque knock off experience as Rhian's Captive Queen.
Agatha manages to save some of her friends.
The concept of OTK was explained.
Tedros's execution was on way.
Nevermind, Agatha and her army just straight-up hijacked it.
Prof. Dovey died as a sacrifice.
Okay, now to Part 2;
Reaper is a Gnome King.
The Crystal of Time was finally explained.
They finally find out about Rhian and Japeth's origins.
The Gnomes were ambushed and I feel sorry for them.
Sophie tipped Rhian off with the location because she believed that she would end it all.
We kinda get background with why Rhian wants to be OTK????
Rhian DIES?!?!?! and now Japeth's King ☠
They sort of manage to know about wtf happened with the Lady and Japeth
Tedros and Arthur have a heart to heart and he gets the Ring of Power.
Cliffhanger
It's a lot to take in and I don't really think that Soman should have cramped it all in one book.
Some of the plot points should have been in QfG so that it wouldn't be as depressing.
The whole of Part one was a book in itself and Part 2 was one as well.
At some points of the book, I sometimes got the feeling that it was gonna be the end but it just kept going and going and now I don't really know what's left with OTK. It can be both a good thing or a horrible thing.
Let's see wtf happens. I expect more action than drama Soman.
So again with Book 1.
Book 1 was a classic and the ideas easily hooked anyone interested.
It had the same unaswered questions with QfG but why did it suceed when QfG didn't.
First, is that Book 1 had its atmosphere clear from the start of the book. It was clear that the main thing that needed to happen was that Sophie and Agatha needed to realize the actual nature of their souls. There were more technical questions that needed to be answered but the main point that needed to be addressed was addressed by the end of the book.
And also the ending was also a cliffhanger but it a much lighter note.
Sophie and Agatha realized their capabilities and understood themselves but they still chose each other in the end and that sort of gave way to a much hopeful future for the two of them. (At that time, at least)
All the while, QfG was one depressing ball of events that led to one horrible moment to the other.
It was just sad.
And so I kinda go back to Book 1 from time to time to refresh myself with why I started this series to begin with and I'm always reminded with the possibilities and the explorations about good and evil and the complex duality of differences and parallels that so many things that Sophie and Agatha sort of beautifully personify.
I love reading the very first chapter of Book 1 because it so beautifully captured Sophie and Agatha and their complex relationship that I've always wanted to read in other books.
I always loved reading Sophie's amusing thought process and the reason why she does everything that she does; she does it because she believes that she deserves more and she'll everything to get it.
I also loved how Agatha was such a character that I've always wanted to read about. She's spunky and shy and lonely and reflective and despite everyone shunning her, she could still see the good and find it in herself to help them. She was simply wonderful.
I'm thankful that I found this series and I hope that a lot more books can talk about the philosophies and concepts that this book has managed to introduce. And despite all of its set-backs and nonsense, I would still recommend this as a read but to that they should also think about what they've read and maybe talk about what they've found interesting with it.

ughh I'm so frustrated that I'm not watching Nirvana in the Fire and i know that i have a hard time starting new shows so it'll be a while until i do, because I just KNOWW that you're a great person to talk about any fandom with, and your gifsets are all so pretty even though I have no idea what's happening!! I bet we'd "Stan" the same characters too^^ I hope you're having fun in that particular fandom!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHoh my goshhhhh don’t be frustrated! We can yell about it no matter when you choose to watch! (If you do choose to watch.) But thank you for the wonderful message. You’re the best. ♥
Though ofcourse if you ever watch the show please (please please please I begyou), tell me and I would be the happiest person ever to yell aboutit with you. It’s sogood.However. Just in case you ever do watch at some point in the future, there are acouple things to be aware of before starting. I nearly let them stop me when I first started watching and hooooo boy I’m glad I didn’t.
ThingsViewers-To-Be of Nirvana in Fire should be aware of:
Thefirst episode(s) will concuss and frustrate you.
A brutal blunt-forcewhap to the skull of waythe heck too much information. Youwill want to start it on fire and glower at its flickering corpse. Asif having to follow the subtitles (if you aren’t a native or fluentspeaker of Mandarin) wasn’t quite enough to add a level of challenge, the show takes its viewers very seriously and assumes that ofcourse it can drop us face-first into a freaking ensemble castsmack-dab in the middle of Political Machinations in time-period-ambiguous ancient Chinaand we’ll be totally fine.So you’re making this face at the screen
Tumblr media
andTEN MORE CHARACTERS pop up and they’re all doing Very ImportantThings (which you will be tested on later; take notes) and you’re not sure who to care about or if you care aboutanything at all—
Okay, so maybe it’s not quite that bad, but it can certainly feel like it at first. That said, enjoy the confused apathy while it lasts because as soon as it fades, this show lives to rip out your entire heart every second of every episode. You know how sometimes a particularly well-written line has a second layer of meaning that is profoundly moving? The best ones in this show have like five or six and each is more wrenchingly beautiful and awe-inspiring than the last. Mmmm, also whump, such beautiful whump
The upside of this is that this show has unbelievablerewatch value.Things that become relevant in episode 40-something get introduced in the firsthandful of episodes. There is amazing, dedicated consistency on thepart of the actors and writers. It’s breathtaking. A telling nervoushabit a character has is a nervous habit he displays throughout thewhole show. A book that becomes relevant midseries? Yeah, someone isreading and annotating it in episodeone. Ifthe first watch hurts, the second will hurt morebecause holyfrick there are layersof pain.Like an onion, if you set it on fire and then liquified it and used it as eyedrops.
I will personally guide anyone who wants to take the plunge through the first episodes of the show because it’s freakin’ worth it.
More under the cut because this is getting long.
NiFis light fantasy (apparently a Chinese genre called wuxia, which presupposes that people who practice martial arts long enoughand well enough gain inhuman dexterity and agility).
So, if youhaven’t been introduced to the genre before—many people have; I hadnot, when I first watched it—you’ll see people sorta… jumping around on rooftops/in midair trying to kill each other and it’s just a well-known aspect of this type of universe. It doesn’t take too long to get used to, but it can be a bit jarring at first, especially in contrast to the very down-to-earth, gritty political maneuvering and court intrigue.
Comfort yourself with the fact that there’s next to no CGI in the show.
It’s well-filmed and breathtakingly performed and unbelievably tightly plotted and will make you hurt (and let you enjoy the beauty of all its pretty characters hurting), but it does one thing that makes me want to punch it: it starts with a Very Dramatic Flashback Scene of a battle/massacre, and the CGI necessary to get the atmosphere they were going for (literally hellish, and for good reason), is a smidge on the iffy side and the scene lands wrong for some. Neither the iffy CG you see in the first ep nor the inexplicable weirdness that scene may leave you with are representative of the quality of the show, which is top-notch.
NiF will ruin you for all other Chinese dramas.
Your mileage may vary, but I’m nearly certain this is just objective truth and it’s all downhill from here because NiF sets the bar so high that no other show is even within miles of reaching it.
Wait for it (wait for it, wait for it)
One of the primary characters, and the second half of the friendship that will Ruin You Forever in the very best way, does not show up in episode one. But that’s okay. It’s worth waiting for.
Also worth acknowledging that there are multiple friendships/relationships (YMMV) that will Ruin You.
You will love all the people.
I know normal people have healthy and moderate relationships with shows, but I tend to lose myself completely over a single character when I get into a show. This happened in NiF, of course, and I have an undeniable “favorite.” But unlike in other shows, where I am relatively meh about most (or all) of the other characters, I fell dangerously in love with pretty much the entire ensemble cast and I would donate my right kidney to any one of them.
So honestly if my fave isn’t your fave it’s totally okay: chances are I would donate organs to your fave too.

hey, i follow u on twitter, i noticed u sometimes comment on bts' posts in korean and have been wondering abt how u learned ur korean? I've been learning for a almost an year now thru private tutoring and I understand most of what they say, but I'm never confident to say even basic things like "sleep well". I have a hard time formulating answers in general both orally or in writing... did u do any kind of specific exercise/practice to feel comfortable with it? (btw i think ur rl cool)
Thank you so much for thinking i’m cool, if you ever feel like practicing korean, we can even help each other, i would love!! you can dm me on twitter
So, i’m still on the process of learning korean, which it’s not easy, you probably know this too since you’re learning too. It’s a completely different language, many words have similar meanings, or one word can have multiple meanings, it’s also a context oriented language and the list goes on. I’m also not as confident as it seems, i still struggle with some things, but the method that works for me is repetition and also surrounding myself with the language as much as i can, korean friends, following korean people on twitter (like fansites too, it works) and keeping ur eyes open to every single korean sentence u see, try to absorb that, write it down. For me the practice is actually replying to bts’ posts on twitter, studying with some of my close friends that know the language and help me learn too. What i do to feel comfortable with is use the language as much as i can, i probably have said some wrong things here and there, but what matters is the experience. So yes, try to surround yourself with the language as much as you can. As for the pronunciation, korean shows really help, like return of the superman, hello counselor, weekly idol, after school club, those are really simple and nice to watch to understand how formulating phrases, pronunciation and such works!
I’m far from being fluent, but everyday i study and keep korean everywhere near me, post its on my board, korean websites to read, simple articles and news, twitter which is a nice place bc its mostly informal and easy to pick up, i even get some posts to translate for myself, reading everyday is the key! If you know the sentence structure and important grammar you’ll formulate phrases so easily, this post covered the basic and most important korean grammar needed for you to kick start your korean fluency and this pdf of beginner grammar in use is also awesome!
So as far as i can express some of my wishes or even talk about my day in korean, just simple things, i do it, i always try to use the korean i pick up, always, it a never ending learning and practicing with korean, don’t feel embarassed or scared of doing it, maybe you can make a private twitter account for practice?? that’s what i do btw asdfjadf
A website that has been helping me so much because of the amount of free content and how they teach everything, it has rly been helpful for me and i hope it will be for you too, is www.sejonghakdang.org , there you can find the sejong korean books, so far they have 8 posted if im not mistaken, and also extra material like books to help you read, write, understand more the language, videos, classes, all free, a life saver, honestly, my korean is getting so much better because of this site!
This is another website with free resources and this youtube video has really helped me with their tips for learning
I hope this helps you somehow and that the path to fluency will be easier for you, since you have extra help with private tutoring (which i don’t have unfortunately, and i have to do it all by myself) so kick ass!!!

sleepy anon speaking, yup I made it! And first of all THANK YOU?? I was literally joking about you writing something, and then you just did it?? It was absolutely perfect, the cuteness made me go all mushy and oohhh and I still can't get over it you wonderful brilliant person. What a nice and lovely thing to do, that and the clip made my night
(2) and I thought Oh wow I guess I HAVE to watch it, subtitles are probably taking a bit. And then the website crashed and I was like are you KIDDING me rn (just like old times I'm tellin ya, completely forgot the sheer agony that comes with watching sth you really care about live). After an eternity (like one and a half minutes) passed, it finally loaded and the first shock was the 16 FUCKING MINUTES. I was like whoaaa okay buckle u p it's gonna be a ride. And it absolutely was!
(3) The Opening was so iconique with the colors omg! My Italian is sadly quite shitty and I got a lot of things wrong, I thought the voice messages at the beginning were from Martino's family and that Italian Eskild (I LOVE HIM) told Ele that a certain Niccolò would occupy her room while she's in England (I deadass died here, I was hyperventilating so hard until the subs came through and I was like...oh.) And I thought the boys really wanted to go to Argentina haha that got me a bit confused :D
(4, last one I'm so sorry for spamming your inbox) All in all, it was a solid clip. I'm also not happy about the Mahdi thing but at least Elia wasn't as homophobic in s1 than the other elias-characters. And ngl, I still don't know about Edoardo, he's not THAT bad I guess but Imo he could still be a bit nicer. But Idk he also gets the benefit of doubt for now. Things I also loved about the clip were Martino answering the fucking phone and saying I don't live here and the Gio-hug in the end!
YAAAY you made it!!! im glad it was still something you liked even though i didnt deliver on the juicy end of it
i dont mind at all!! rant away
1. yeah it wasn’t geoblocked for me either which was kinda surprising but who knows maybe its an EU thing .. or where are you from? 2. god yeah! when it was finally up it didnt load for me and skdjskdjsd i remember that vividly from skam s4 and it sucked both times! RIGHT?! 16 minutes was so long i looove it i hope they continue to make these clips looong af 3. i dont understand a word italian (thats a lie i know pronot ciao alora and dificile ... im basically fluent) so i thought it was martinos family too and when i saw what it really was oh man ... its crushing and heartbreaking and so horrible and just reminded me just HOW important this season and its message will be I LOOOOVE italian eskild!! i love how we all instantly knew when he appeared who hes was gonna be he has the energy (also that hair works on him for some reason, as does the shirt! ... was his name filippo or did i dream that?)
hahaha i thought the girl (it-emma) was names argentina so you know ... were great at this hahah
4. TRu! to be fair elia made a comment but nothing that other characters in og didnt do too so he wasnt as bad as elias (god remember when we shamed s1 elias of og skam in all the fics? Good Times) and yeah agreed about the casting choices - i do very much see the negative points as i said before and its nothing to neglect but im excited for the next decisions theyre gonna make and hope its gonna go uphill from here heh
i dont know about eduardo either i mean ... haaah im decidedly NO FAN of dickhelm (im sorry if that offends anyone but i wrote first william and then willhelm and thats just not his name for me anymore) but i do agree that the remake versions of him seem nicer or more human ... idk eduardo feels like he COULD become nicer but i want a better redeeming arch than just one nice comment to vilde which arguably had an ultirior motive .. so i remain testy but hopeful ig?
martino crossfadingly answering the phone was so great hahah
the huuug uhghnnnn i hurt from that hug! i loved it but it hurt! bc it felt like martino just fellt a lot of !!! .... and idk maybe not bc hes still in love with gio or attracted to him or whatever but just bc he feels so raw and on the spot and aaargh i hurt
anyway! thank you for your recap of it and i hope to see you again with further thoughts my sleepy friend (im gonna stick to that tag if youre ok with it!)
